here is a sneak preview of the "deliver us from evil" prologue!

The sunrise is beautiful. Somber darkness bleeds through to reveal a mellow orange in the skies above. The frosted mountains peer down upon the sleeping city nestled in its valley. Its presence blends this newfound light with a gentle blue hue, finally bringing life to these muted layers of snow. How peaceful it seems. Each role is fulfilled with such grace, nearly untouched by human turmoil. The morning wind bites. Its teeth fiercely graze Kai’s cheeks. Every inhale aggravates his scarred throat, still sorely scraping against his lungs after sprinting to the Chidouin residence. Tending to the family within had allowed him a brief reprieve, but standing in the crisp air again lights the tender wicks aflame. Once the door behind him opens, a familiar stride hits the wooden patio and echoes through the hollow floor beneath—for as deliberate as it appears, Kai notes a slight weight upon the right leg. A hand suddenly meets his shoulder, and only then does he glance beside himself. Master Chidouin settles at his left side, finally resting his briefcase before the stairs. With his hand free, Hikari pulls out a cigarette pack and takes one for himself, offering another for his assistant. Shaking his head, Kai instead asks: “Is Atsuko ready?” “Just about,” and the words scarcely leave his lips when he ignites the lighter. “She’ll be alright,” Kai promises, tentatively raising his hand to rest upon his elder’s—firmly clasped upon his shoulder, as though he fears to lose his support. Ever slightly, Kai inclines his head Hikari’s direction. “In a half hour alone, she has regained her strength.” Hikari exhales, letting the smoke trail off in a bitter whisper. The acrid taste stings Kai’s tongue, though he quickly suppresses the rising cough. It disperses into the cold dawn, its source clear as the day to come: this is the second seizure Atsuko has had within four days, meaning they cannot hold off on their intended appointment with Asunaro any longer. It is only natural for Hikari to rely on this habit more than before, even if it betrays the unspoken worry eating away at him. The sight is a painful one, knowing aloud the most he’ll ever allow is: “I know.” Though the phrase exists as an effort to reassure, those few words plant an inexorable dread in Kai’s chest. Even so, when Hikari lets go of his hand to bring him into a half-hug, Kai finds it difficult to cling to anything but the warmth of his embrace. “Asunaro’s got it handled.” As if an ember has broken from his hearth, it burns upon Kai’s chest with abrupt guilt. His fists curl around the railing.

i am evidently extremely normal about their interactions few and far between. one of the only chapters that hikari is still alive...

SEA'S COMMUNITY COMPENDIUM UPDATE

Two updates in two days, you say? I know! However, this time I have gone insane. By all accounts, this is a pretty big update. ⭐

As of 03/9, I have added the following communities (in no particular order) to Sea's Community Compendium:

The Glitter Hall — an IC dance party event hosted by @miqomischief and associated with @legacyofafterlight.

La Vipère — An IC upscale hookah lounge and host club located in Ishgard. @la-vipere-ffxiv

Story Hall — an IC Storytelling cafe also hosted by @miqomischief and associated with @legacyofafterlight.

Ainyan's Gshade to Reshade — All shaders originally used for Gshade updated to the most-recent version of Reshade! Maintained by @ainyan.

The Crystal Chronicle — an IC news outlet reporting on people, places and things in the Crystal Datacentre. @crystalchroniclenews

I've done a lot of boosting for this lately but, just to reiterate, not only can you submit communities now via my ask box or google form, but you can also post your communities via my Discord at SEAFLOOR! If you're community leader doesn't utilise Tumblr, please let them know they can get in contact with me via that method.

My only major stipulation is that anyone joining the server MUST be over the age of twenty-one. If you're younger, please utilise the existing submission methods. It's nothing personal, I just don't want minors in my space.

I am also beginning to DM community leaders/resource owners for permission to be featured in the Compendium. "I'm not sure if my things count/are good enough," you say? Didn't ask, it is, shut up; get loved, nerds. This is predominately for communities I see via Tumblr, as I don't have the time to canvas multiple Discords and I'm not thrilled about messaging people I'm not mutuals with out of the blue. Again, please drop a line to the leaders of your community if you think they might want to be featured, especially if they're not on Tumblr.

There is never any pressure to be a part of the document and there's no hard feelings if you decline.

in lieu of having posted any writing/headcanons/asks in the past few days because i have been *so* busy and unable to do anything fandom-related which is terrible and evil, i have a poll out of morbid curiosity and self-indulgence. i've been meaning to ramble here about how i feel about DC's lack fo Deaf representation and which Batfam members i would personally make Deaf, but i am mildly curious about the larger opinion and now i will subject you all to the question, i would love to hear thoughts/opinions/headcanons on any specific choices. (would love d/Deaf/HoH opinions esp but i'm mostly expecting this to reach the hearing crowd, so opinions from hearing ppl are ones i'm very curious about. if you've never given it thought before you are going to now or else /lh)

Hi. I just want to send some love and let you know that your page really inspire me. I am of Sami heritage, living in Norway and I relate a lot to the catalan experience. Our language is constantly under threat and so is our culture. I know a lot of Sami groups that collaborate with other causes. I have a study circle with some students from Palestine, and I know theres a lot of good relationship between Catalonia and Palestine (when I visited Ramallah everyones favorite team is Barcelona, haha, i think people connect it to resistance). I think a lot of Sami activists can learn a lot from Catalan ones. Especially regarding language rights. May your people gain independence (or, at least, the right to make your own democratic choice about it). All the best!

It's true for decades there's been a very strong connection between Palestine and Catalonia. Besides them, we have a strong alliance with the other cultures under Spanish rule (Basque and Galician) and to a lesser extent Corsica and Occitania. Others like Brittany are also well known but we rarely organize together and meet as often as with these ones.

I wish there was more connection with Sápmi as well. There was a short-lived widespread talk about support to the Sami people when Mikko Kärnä (MP in Finland for Sápmi constituency) voiced his support for accepting Catalonia's vote on independence, many people had never heard about Sami people before. Mikko Kärnä was the only foreign MP outside of Basque and Galician ones who gave us so much support, so people were very thankful. Sadly, after that I haven't heard much more... Only every so often they talk about it in Vilaweb (a pro-independence leftist newspaper that often talks about other occupied nations), just this week they published about the Sámi Dáiddaguovddáš and I remember a while ago they talked about the mines they wanted to build there that would destroy the land. But there isn't a widespread conscience and shared organizations like with the other stateless countries under Spain.

It's a shame, I wish there was more contact. After all, it's the same fight, and we would all gain from forming stronger alliances with all minoritized cultures who are in a similar position.

A woman (or even man, if he’s deemed over-emotional) makes music about suffering from mental illness and people just go, “What are they complaining about, that’s so immature, hashtag wangst.” (And then, sometimes, inexplicably, if the mentally ill woman gets better and writes happier music, they then talk about how artistically bankrupt she is now and that she should go back to hating herself.) People LOVE cis white pRoBLeMaTiC (straight) fictional men until they are realistically mentally ill, in which case they’re “whiny” and “insufferable” and deserve to die violently, apparently (or, if fandom is merciful, they’re ignored). (And then they celebrate when they DO inevitably get killed off.) “Do your duty and watch [thing I, mc13, personally find insufferable] For The (white) Gays because it has Gays.” Sure, will you watch c4 Pure, the ONLY show specifically about OCD, then? (No, the answer is no, it’s always no.)

I can’t get anyone to watch Doom Patrol. I couldn’t get people (in general-I did convince a few irl friends thank GOD) to watch Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. One of the most popular and acclaimed shows right now has a character with schizophrenia who was turned into the Big Bad Villain for no fucking reason. One of the most commonly-cited examples of Iconic™ queer media involves a mentally ill man being broken over and over and over again before The Ship™ can reasonably happen. DW introduced a major character who was at one point suffering from mental illness in her past, AND THEN ALL MENTION OF THIS WAS COMPLETELY DROPPED IN THE FUTURE, WITH NO BEARING ON ANYTHING TO THE POINT WHERE I FORGOT IT EVEN EXISTED??!?!? R*tched was a thing that existed despite the Sad Sympathetic Backstory treatment being IN DIRECT CONTRADICTION OF WHAT PURPOSE THIS CHARACTER SERVED IN One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. THEY GAVE. A SAD WOOBIE VILLAIN TREATMENT. TO THE /LITERAL PERSONIFICATION/ OF ABLEISM. THAT IS HER FUNCTION. TO EXIST AS A SYMBOL OF ALL THE WAYS SOCIETY OPPRESSES THE DISABLED AND MENTALLY ILL.
