While I'm afraid I don't have time to write out a full review at the moment, I feel compelled to remind folks that there are still copies of the Ongaku to Hito Sakurai Atsushi Special Issue available in the official web shop. It's a high quality issue with glossy photos and sturdy paper, very well worth the cost and shipping. Additionally, as an official print, this purchase supports the band, the photographers and the interviewers who kindly brought out the best of Sakurai for us.

Prodentim: The Buzz Behind This Probiotic Powerhouse
Let’s face it. Oral health is a big deal. Most of us grew up hearing “brush twice a day, floss, and rinse,” but what if there’s more to keeping your teeth and gums happy than just that? That’s where Prodentim steps in, shaking up the dental care game with a fresh, natural approach.
What’s Prodentim Anyway?
You might be wondering, what’s all the hype around Prodentim? Well, it’s not just another chewable tablet you toss in your mouth and hope for the best. This supplement is packed with probiotics. Yes, the same kind of probiotics that are good for your gut can also help keep your mouth in top shape.
The idea here is simple: your mouth needs good bacteria just like your stomach. When your oral microbiome is balanced, you can kiss bad breath, gum issues, and tooth decay goodbye. Prodentim’s formula is designed to boost those good bacteria, while also freshening your breath, improving gum health, and giving your teeth that extra sparkle. Sounds like a win, right?
Where Can You Buy Prodentim?
People everywhere are jumping on the Prodentim train, and it’s not hard to see why. But before you rush out to buy it, you should know where to get the real deal. Prodentim is available through its official website for the best prices and discounts. While you might find it listed on Amazon, Walmart, or even Walgreens, there have been some scam alerts floating around. To stay safe, always stick with the official source.
Oh, and did we mention free shipping? Yep, many offers on the website throw in free shipping for good measure. That’s some serious bang for your buck.
What’s in Prodentim?
Let’s talk about what makes this supplement tick. Prodentim isn’t just another supplement with fancy promises. It’s all about those key ingredients. These probiotics are known to promote healthier teeth and gums while also helping digestion. You’ll find ingredients like lactobacillus which are famous for fighting gum diseases and promoting tooth health. No need to memorize fancy names though; just know it’s packed with good stuff your mouth will love.
Real Prodentim Reviews – What Are People Saying?
The reviews are rolling in, and they’re... well, pretty impressive. People who’ve tried Prodentim are raving about how their breath is fresher, their gums are stronger, and even how their teeth feel cleaner. From the US to the UK, users are noticing real results.
But, as with anything, it’s good to be cautious. There are some complaints out there, mostly from people who bought from third-party sites and didn’t get the real product. So, if you’ve been hearing about scam alerts or worried about whether it’s legit, remember to buy from the official site to avoid any headaches.
Is Prodentim Worth It?
If you’re looking for a natural, hassle-free way to boost your oral health, Prodentim could be exactly what you’ve been missing. With all those probiotics working their magic, this supplement helps create a healthy balance of bacteria in your mouth, giving you a reason to smile confidently.
Plus, with the discounts floating around (sometimes up to 70% off), it’s a smart investment in your dental care routine. So, whether you’ve been dealing with stubborn bad breath, sensitive gums, or just want to take better care of your smile, Prodentim has your back.
Final Thoughts
At the end of the day, Prodentim is more than just a supplement. It’s about taking control of your oral health in a way that feels easy and natural. No more worrying about cavities or gum issues when you can support your body’s natural defenses with just a chewable tablet. And with tons of positive reviews and great deals available, there’s never been a better time to give it a try.

Which is a shame. Being able to appreciate the craft of John Carpenter back in 1980 certainly helps to avert some harsh criticisms thrown its way, because Carpenter has achieved, pound for pound, a better ghost story on a fraction of the budget afforded big Hollywood genre productions that have been made since. That’s not to say it’s perfect, for it’s not, Carpenter himself has never been wholly satisfied with the final film, this even after re-shooting a third of the film after originally making a picture reliant on suggestion over presence, but with some smoke machines, a synthesiser, a game cast and a spooky revenge story on the page, he’s made a sub-genre classic. BEST OF 2021 - BL Edition!
Hella subjective utterly erratic awards of little import and no impact. But I love them, okay? Only includes shows that completed their runs in 2021.
BEST KISS 2021
Tumblr media
THE WINNER: TharnType 2
There were some killer kisses in BL this year, but basically no one on earth (let alone in BL) can beat out MewGulf in this category. I’m a big fan of the soft sweet candy kiss in the final TT2 episode, but really any of them were great and there were A LOT. (Episode by episode trash-watching recap here.)
BEST DEBUT KISS 2021
Tumblr media
THE WINNER: We Best Love
For first timers, this category goes to SamYu of We Best Love, who did a magical job at first kisses in a short run series. (The shorter the run, the less chance the actors have to establish intimacy and become comfortable with each other. Although, Taiwan is generally better at enabling actor intimacy than any other country, possibly because it’s a queer-friendly culture with good workshopping techniques.)
Tumblr media
Anyway, tears running down their faces, post baby’s agro shouty confession, on a bridge (another trope) who doesn’t love this kiss? Plus they breathed into each other (how to act a kiss 101 that so many BLs don’t do.
I have to say, the contentious drunken sobbing kiss Sam gave us in season two almost took this whole category, if it weren’t for the struggle beneath all those tears and passion and consent... But really, THAT KISS (and you all know which one I’m on about) wasn’t so much romantic as it was pained and desperate, and it didn’t take this category because that kiss wasn’t about love, it was about loss and failure and regret.
It was, possibly, one of the best kisses in all BL, but it’s not the right kind of kiss to win a romance trope category.
I hope that makes sense.
Tumblr media
I’m gonna throw a little love Thai BL pulps way, they gave us a number of charming kisses this year, but I was most taken with Second Chance’s PaperFah.
Tumblr media
To My Star’s very final kiss was also in contention (Korea, who knew?), but We Best Love beat that one out because I’m a sucker for tears and SamYu... just GAH.
BEST DOCUMENTARY 2021
Tumblr media
THE WINNER: Absolute BL AKA Zettai BL ni Naru Sekai vs Zettai BL ni Naritakunai Otoko  AKA A Man Who Defies The World of BL
Honestly tho, it was also the only entrant in this category (unless you count Call it What You Want and Lovely Writer). Look, this was a work of genius. A meta commentary that can only really be thought of as Japan taking itself to task for its own tropes, pulling them out, examining and gently mocking them, but still bucking under the weight of expectation and history. I hooted with laughter. It’s insightful, charming, and AMAZING. (Full review here.)
BEST THEME SONG 2021
Tumblr media
THE WINNER: Light on Me
A.C.E’s song Spark for Light On Me wins OTS. I have to say I also really liked both of Color Rush’s 2 entrants and Wish You’s cute little song, but as a K-pop enthusiast I was really happy to see an actual K-pop song sung by a legit group in a Korean BL. It legitimized all K-BL in a weird way, ya know?
BEST CASTING, DIRECTING & SCRIPT 2021
Tumblr media
THE WINNER: A Tale of Thousand Stars
The story and execution were great, but the cast really elevated this show into something special. Everyone seemed to perfectly suit their roles and GMMTV made the most out of its stable. Combined with excellent production (and post production) values, 1000 Stars is without question GMMTV’s most mature, charming, and smart BL series. I think it should go down as one of the top BLs of all time. You should feel safe recommending this one to friends and non BL watchers.
BEST USE OF BL TROPES 2021
Tumblr media
THE WINNER: Light On Me
Light On Me who drops multiple BL tropes with its two different seme’s for expert love triangle reasons but also uses them for pristine pacing, plot, and character development. Korea is the most strategic user of tropes and I love that they deploy them explicitly to serve narrative a not just to tick boxes. Light on Me is a master class in this technique. (If you write fanfic or romance you should study this show.)
Their best versions included (but were not limited to:
Minister the Artful Injury (for the love triangle)
Meet Me in the Library (for the love triangle)
Crash Into Me (for the love triangle)
That’s MY BOYFRIEND - Public Claiming (to show character’s seme traits and attractiveness of identity ownership and honesty)
Put Your Head On My Shoulder (to show seme character’s pining traits and softness)
Boys on Phones (to advance plot and tension)
Symbolic Gift Exchange (as a twist to show interest and call-back coupledom)
and Touch My Face (that subverted version of the ADORABLE squeeze thing they did to each other)
2021′S MOST UNEXPECTEDLY SOFT SERIES
Tumblr media
THE WINNER: Be Loved In House: I Do
By far Be Love In House: I Do’s best quality was that the tsundere uke’s tsundere-ness was entirely sympathetic, he was utterly likable from the start. This BL cleverly leaned on great acting and beautiful trope execution to carry a rather weak story, but the two leads being impossibly soft with each other in the home absolutely slayed. Grumpy/tsundere is HARD to execute well, so I was impressed, especially from Taiwan who, let’s be fair, doesn’t really specialize in soft or clever BL. BLINID was both.
Honorable mention to Golden Blood.
Tumblr media
Only Thailand would DARE be this soft with a bodyguard romance. I didn’t expect SunSky and their side dishes (PitchBank) to be so tender and sweet with each other.
BEST MICROFILM 2021
Tumblr media
THE WINNER: A First Love Story
Look I adore Hey Rival: I LOVE YOU! but it was still very Vietnamese and so rather flawed in execution. Korea’s Strongberry, on the other hand, have been perfecting the BL microfilm genre (and, let’s be fair, kind of OWN it) since 2017. They are true masters of their craft and yet A First Love Story is still one of the best things they have ever produced. It’s two episodes of about 8 minutes each that manage to perfectly portray the sweetest friends-to-lovers confession ever. It’s joyful, and gentle with its characters, and a little hot.
How on earth do they manage to leave us yearning for more yet completely satisfied at the same time? It’s like the perfect amuse-bouche, that one finger food at that one cocktail party that you will never forget. You are a ridiculous human if you haven’t spent 16 minutes with these two boys. Go watch it now. Or go watch it again. It’s time VERY well spent.
BEST UNIVERSITY SET BL 2021
Tumblr media
THE WINNER: Nitiman
This Thai BL pulp had sympathetic characters, a solid tsundere uke redemption arc, and a fantastic pining seme who yearned without bullying, grooming, or gaslighting. Plus when they were together, they were ridiculously soft. But it also had a realistic portrayal of university life, bisexual awakening, and friendship groups. Bummer about the ending. (Full review here.)
BEST HIGH SCHOOL SET BL OF2021
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s a tie!
THE WINNERS: Light on Me & Kieta Hatsukoi
Korean BL Light On Me managed to portray the angst of high school, social media, and coming out in a refined almost elegant way with all credit given to the uke character for honestly and brutal communication. It had a great friendship group, good teacher character, and even managed to treat Plot Device Girl with integrity. Also the white blue color pallet throughout was very pleasing and classy.
Japanese BL Kieta Hatsukoi AKA My Love Mix-Up! snuck in under the wire to tie Korea’s gem at the VERY end of the year. It was also all teen angst and dramatic crisis over haircuts and text messaging but it was so Japanese slapstick extreme about it. It was a one-show meme-generator and Aoki’s face was a picture of comedic mobility. It was charming origin yaoi in a way that represented for the manga roots of the genre where as LoM was basically showing us how far we have come. Also Kieta Hatsukoi was so Japan’s style where LoM was so much Korea’s, it’s fun to watch two countries separated by the same genre. These two shows exist in equal, if opposite, flip sides of the same coin. How could I decide between the two? The award goes to both.
BEST QUEER REP 2021
Tumblr media
THE WINNER: My Lascivious Boss
While it did have pacing issues and some questionable content at the beginning, MLB’s unabashed queerness carried it though and ultimately elevated it with camp. It never felt like mockery or punching down, it felt joyful, and very new wave BL. It’s as if Vietnam is starting a process of handing out HEAs to all the letters of LGBTQ+ in BL style - I love this look for them. (On YouTube - full review here.)
BEST WARDROBE 2021
Tumblr media
THE WINNER: We Best Love: Fighting Mr. 2nd
Mostly I’m classifying WBL as one series aired in two parts, but for this category the second half really takes the gold. THOSE 3 PIECE SUITS on Shu Yi. How Liu Bing Wei always coordinates his tie to Shi Zhe Yu’s suit. It was an absolute pleasure to watch. I never winced once.
BEST HISTORICAL 2021
Tumblr media
THE WINNER: Nobleman Ryu’s Wedding
A historical setting allowed this BL to use some seriously old fashioned romance tropes (arranged marriage and evil step-sisters) but also modern BL stylings like fake relationship and secret identity (drag) plus some cute gay panic. It was a lot more gentle than any historical BL to date, which is Korea stamping the sub-genre with its mark and standing up to China’s darker traditions. It reminded me of 12th Night more than anything else which just happens to be my favorite Shakespeare play. For all these reasons, I adored it. (Full review here.)
Most Honest to BL’s Roots
Tumblr media
THE WINNER: Utsukushii Kare
Given, Utsukushii Kare, and Kieta Hatsukoi all could have released in 2015 as live action yaoi and absolutely no one would have been surprised. They were seriously old school in a PTSD flashback kind of way (if reading yaoi and watching the first live action versions gave you PTSD, which it certainly could have if you were young enough.)
But Given and Kieta Hatsukoi leaned slightly softer, and therefore felt a touch more modern, because Japanese BL is so rarely soft. On the other hand, Utsukushii Kare was harsh as all get up, angry with us and itself, reminding us about whipping boy, and attack dog, and spoiled prince.
This is what an entirely unreasonable tsundere really looks like.
This is what a weird obsessed stalker seme really looks like.
This depicted the collateral that any relationship involving these archetypes causes to everyone around them.
It was exactly as weird and as messed up as any 2000′s yaoi: emo af and hella warped, entirely true to itself with no attempt made to modify its POV for modern sensibilities or current BL fandom. It didn’t pander to us in anyway, and I fucking loved it for that. This is not just live action yaoi in its purest form, it’s Japanese cinema, uncompromising.
LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
Tumblr media
MaxTul
Starting with Bad Romance in 2016, MaxTul are one of the longest running, funny & game, and apparently healthy actor pairs in Thai BL. Never once did they sail their ship astray, miss a port (or a pun), or fail to raise the rainbow flag to honor the queer community (for queens and country).
We are deeply grateful for their service to fandom.
We of the BL navy salute you.
(I’ll stop now.)
BEST BL THAT WASN’T A BL 2021
Tumblr media
THE WiNNER: The Devil Judge
For a show that was meant to be a dystopian court thriller, these two gents got awfully domestic. Is Korea taking its tips from China’s bromance tradition now?
Anygay, these two were husbands by about episode 3.
Everyone agrees.
Even them.
MOST CHARMING BL 2021
Tumblr media
THE WiNNER: To My Star
This little series was quirky as all goddamn getup, but so cinnamon roll adorable out the other side I forgive it all my initial confusion. The grumpy chef and neurotic actor (human puppy) pairing really worked for me. Both actors were great, the kitchen and cafe settings were lovely, and the ending was a peach. Utterly charming.
MOST REWATCHABLE BL 2021
Tumblr media
THE WINNER: We Best Love
We Best Love is amazing, just the chemistry alone holds up to multiple rewatches, and THAT drunk scene in part 2! There’s some pretty epic pining in BL, but Gao Shi De pines for Olympic gold, and I happen to love watching a seme suffer. Again and again.
The story is weak but the performances are so good they entirely sweep away a flawed plot, thin narrative arc, and time jump character development. It’s rare for me to like a show DESPITE the story, We Best Love stands with To My Star as one of the few. All told this series is GREAT, I am probably rewatching right now. I want a Viki movie version yesterday. (Full review here.)
BEST BL 2021
Tumblr media
THE WINNER: Color Rush
In a surprise upset Korea stole the gold from top contenders Taiwan (my beloved) and Thailand (the power house). Under STRONG competition from We Best Love, To My Star, Lovely Writer, and 1000 Stars, Color Rush took the top spot.
What can I say? I absolutely LOVE this BL.
What really won it for Color Rush was the brilliant allegory and the ultra clean concept, not to mention Korea’s pitch perfect production values and a heavy dose of classic yaoi filming technique.
Color Rush managed to be both ground-breaking, nostalgic, and charming all at once. I could write a thesis on it. I kinda did.
Tumblr media
Winners based on my definition of BL.

Since a bunch of you really liked the BUCK-TICK's discography review I made last month (you can find it with #artnachronisme's buck-tick review), I thought it could be nice to continue to talk about my feelings on their music. We stopped at Six/Nine (1995) last time, which was for a reason : the next album, Cosmos (1996) is a clear transition to their industrial years.
Cosmos is remarkable for its very light tones. Six/Nine was very different and varied/experimental from Darker than darkness style 93 but Cosmos appears to be more like its continuation while it's also the path to a very new sound, more industrial, as I said before. A song like Living on the net shows it clearly in my opinion. I like this album for songs like Maria, Tight Rope, Sane, Idol or Ash-ra. There seems to be a new maturity in the lyrics. The guitars are very strong, langourous - if I may express myself this way - and Atsushi seems to continue to try new stuff with his voice.
Next album is Sexy Stream Liner that I absolutely adore, out in 1997. You can feel how much the album was filled with tons of sci-fi inspirations, thanks to Kazutoshi Yokoyama's keyboards (who worked with them since 1993 - keyboards part since 1995). The instrumental song Sexy Stream Liner is very interesting and a clear testimony of their transition to industrial rock music. Songs like Heroin or Lizard skin no shoujo have very electronic sounds in their compositions for example. As usual I'm very fond of Hidehiko Hoshino's music, Rasen Mushi is one of my fav song from this album. What I love is the fact that they never lose themselves with this new type of sounds and songs like Muchi no Namida, Sasayaki or My Fuckin' Valentine are, with their structures, anchored to their roots while being proof of their evolution. I think this album is quite interesting for its various experiments, Imai being, as usual, very capable when it comes to create an homogeneous project.
In 2000, One Life, One Death is released. I don't know where to start with this one tbh. I got lost when I heard Baby, I want you for the first time. It's almost a pop song with this dance beat - but I reminded myself that Du Hast by Rammstein had the same type of flavor and is still close to my heart so... anyway. But using the term "pop" isn't a nonsense since I feel like this album is quite accessible. Once you get used to Sexy Stream Liner, this project is not as interesting in my opinion, because yes, I do think that it sounds more pop - the keyboards parts are probably the reason why I feel this way. But... a little bit of context : in the early 00s, rock music was quite the trend all around the world and we had a lot of this type of productions. Glamourous, as much as I like this song, is kinda... cute (?). But don't get me wrong, Megami is very hypnotizing (guess who wrote the music ? Yeah, Hoshino), a rock ballad if I may ; I LOVE the atmosphere from Sapphire, Rhapsody is quite interesting as well and Flame is a very beautiful ballad too (probably one of my fav). I don't hate the whole project. I just think that it's not as dark and deep as their past ones.
In 2002, Kyokutou I Love You is released. Songs like Oukoku Kingdom Come -moon rise- and Brilliant remind me a lot of Cosmos's atmosphere and are quite light. 21st Cherry Boy is kinda cheesy, build to be a single obviously (never forget the mv where Atsushi is surrounded by two dancers on his chair haha) but efficient in its style. I also like how TRIGGER is structured and the guitars are very nice, same goes with Kyokutou Yori Ai wo Komete. I love Shanikusai -Carnival- and yes... Hoshino is behind the music again ; it's a sensual song, I like how Atsushi sing on this one. Finally, the masterpiece in my opinion is Long Distance Call, so emotional... but well, since the subject is what it is. Long short story : I prefer this album than its previous one. It ends with Continue for the simple reason that this project was supposed to be a double disc with Mona Lisa Overdrive, released in 2003.
Oh... and this album. Where to start ? I have the feeling that it's one of their most underrated project and I kinda don't understand why because I find it very efficient. The songs are powerful. The whole album sounds more straight rock again and yeah... I do like this. The opening song (fed with the ending of Kyokutou I Love You) Nabayuki shows the colors of the project very simply : it's gonna rock. Limbo is a UFO, clearly made for the stage - I like that the lyrics refers to some old songs they created by the past. The main theme from this album is definitely power because everything is catchy, pulsy, it goes straight to the point and I LIKE THAT. I don't have much to say on this project, I appreciate how it sounds in its whole. It's the kind of album that I listen to entirely, but rarely pick up a song all alone. It's a perfect ending point for their cyberpunk/industrial years !
I really appreciate this era because the guys experimented as much as by the past but into a new universe. Industrial rock isn't the easiest kind of rock to create, there's not that much bands who based their entire career on this type of sound and I truly appreciate how they manage to produce 5 different projects.
Btw, Would you like me to talk about their early works from Hurry up mode to Taboo , cause I started with Aku no Hana ?

FAQ
What type of computer do I need? Can it be used on a Mac/iPhone/iPad?
Each system will have its own list of minimum system requirements. generally, though, you’ll need Windows 7 or later, 4gig of RAM, and a minimum of 1gig of disk drive space. an honest graphics card is going to be required to point out the courses in high definition, and you’ll need a powerful processor just like the Intel i5 or newer. Most of the listed systems here will work on Mac also as Windows PCs. However, you ought to double-check with the manufacturer before making a sale.
Will, I should buy these golf simulators?
No. Each listed simulator comes with everything you want to have to play, with the exception of mobile apps and computers. Of course, you’ll also need your own golf clubs to play, and you’ll always prefer to purchase more courses.

Buck-Tick Product Review: Gustave 2-Way Mini Backpack
Imai's featured product for the 2023 Day in Question Buck-Tick Phenomenon concert, fashioned after Imai's black, red, and leopard print guitar of the same name.
Tumblr media
The vinyl-like polyester material is easy to keep clean. There's slight hooding over the zipper to the main pouch, providing weather protection from rain and snow. The front pouch may be more vulnerable, however.
The 2-way feature: The straps can both be clipped to one side of the back and zipped together to sling over one should or or across the chest, or, left unzipped, they can be clipped one to each side for backpack-style wear.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The straps slide smoothly—too smoothly—and can easily get twisted or loosened. If you find a particular length is perfect for you and have no desire to adjust it in the future, you may want to consider sewing the overlapping sections of the straps to secure them.
There's a bit of reinforced padding on the bottom and back side of the main pouch to protect the contents.
Tumblr media
The backside has an open pocket. An A5 size notebook can fit (see photo), though it overtakes the top corners of the purse.
Tumblr media
The front pouch is too small for most phones, even for my iPhone 13 Mini. (Personally, I tend to keep mine in the main or back pocket.)
Tumblr media
The main pouch is quite spacious, if too short for the A5 notebook. It easily fits Japanese and American mass market paperbacks, as well as a full length wallet and phone, with room to spare (see photo). My full-sized head phones fit if I leave out the books. Moreover, the structure of the bag holds up well, where my other store-bough backpack-style purses tend to collapse.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I tend to use this purse only for nights out with friends, so I haven't given it a full test of day-to-day wear and tear. It doesn't feel especially delicate, but neither does it feel tough enough that I wouldn't worry about scratching the material.
I always get compliments on the style, and the Lingua Sounda logo on the front has been an ice breaker to talk about the band without fangirling too aggressively.
I favor backpack-style purses, so it's a good match for me, and I'm glad I got it. If you're on the fence, you may wish to wait to see if it lasts long enough to go on sale, but I wouldn't pass it up if the price does drop.
At the time of this writing, Gustave is still available for general sale in the Buck-Tick web shop for 12,000 JPY.

A collection of reviews for games I've beaten recently! Instead of going into detail about each individual one, let's satisfy my short attention span and give short, sweet reviews for them all in one whack!
Although these reviews will be bite-sized, the scoring system remains the same: Seek Out, Buy Cheap and Skip It. Without further adieu!
Tumblr media
Buy Cheap: 40 Winks (Nintendo 64)
Once a Playstation exclusive, publisher Piko Interactive brought over this cult classic to the Nintendo 64 a short time ago. A decent action-platformer about a couple of kids - Ruff and Tumble that go into the "dream world" to save forty mouse-like creatures called "winks" from the game's villian NiteKap. A fun game that controls well. The dream powers are fun to use (Nightmare on Elmstreet for NES comes to mind) - game feels like a Rareware game but just never reaches that point. By the time you've hit the third level, you've seen everything 40 Winks has to offer. Lack of variety, claustrophobic levels hold it back from being a true classic. N64 version has a co-op mode I was unable to try. Worth at least one playthough. Great foundation for a sequel, but it's been 20 years so don't hold your breath.
Tumblr media
Seek Out: Army Men: Sarge's Heroes (Nintendo 64)
A third-person shooter where you play as "Sarge" - a toy army man on the forefront of the war between the green and tan armies. Battles take place in regular places like jungles and beaches, but when you cross the portal into the real world is where the fun begins. Bathtubs, Christmas trees and backyards become warzones. Mission structures are like Goldeneye missions if you play on agent - so nothing too complicated. The controls are a little slow and tank-y and can cause a death here and there but the game is just so charming and fun, it doesn't hamper the experience. Burning enemies with a flame thrower is a lot of fun. Good multiplayer mode once you finish the game. Story and cutscenes add to it's charm.
Tumblr media
Buy Cheap: Adventure Island: The Beginning (WiiWare)
You can't even play this legally anymore given the shutdown of Wii's online service, but it's possible if you seek... So this is a prequel to Hudson's flagship Adventure Island series. Given it's a WiiWare game, it's short and can be finished within an hour. Just like previous entries, you run out of health as time ticks down and must collect foods to keep your health up. it's nowhere near as difficult as it's predecessors, but it's still a challenging game. You can collect melons to buy powerups in the in-game shop to help you out (think Mega Man 10, Donkey Kong Country Returns). Critics say it made the game too easy, but for a smooth brain like me, it didn't. I had some fun with this and with achievements, it gave me a reason to keep playing. Mini-games are ok, but nothing too compelling once you collect the achievements for them. If this is ever released again officially, don't pay over 6 bucks to play.
Tumblr media
Seek Out: Spyborgs (Wii)
Capcom's forgotten beat 'em up made exclusively for the Wii. Sad thing too because this is a pretty fun game that doesn't get the love it deserves. Classic Capcom difficulty (don't worry, you can turn it down) collectables, extras, co-op and achievements make your time with Spyborgs worthwhile. The character designs feel very 2010's action cartoon, but it fits the setting. Supposedly, earlier versions looked even more cartoony but fan feedback inspired changes to the final product. You can play as three fighters a martial artist with swords, a tank-like brawler and a shooter. The game encourages team super-moves and hit combos. If you dig the story (that I can't remember) there's a prequel comic-book floating around out there as well as some cartoons on Youtube that coincided the release of the game. Would love to see Capcom come back to this at some point. A fun exclusive for the Wii.
Tumblr media
Skip It: Monster Truck Madness (Nintendo 64)
Legitimately one of the worst games I've ever played and definitely the worst N64 game I've played (I'm not touching Carmageddon). Doesn't know if it wants to be a driving sim or a wacky kart-racer with weapons. Only reason I played this game was for the officially licensed WCW monster trucks that are in the game. The novelty of driving a truck with Hulk Hogan's 24-inch pythons on it loses it's appeal when you can't go past 4 mph without sailing clear across the map with no hope of ever getting back into the race. Physics are terrible and make this game legitimately unplayable. Awful hot garbage.

Review : Kate (2021)
Tumblr media
I don’t know what it is about Mary Elizabeth Winstead and roles where she gets to lean into being a badass, but it seems these days that this sole ingredient is enough to pique my interest.  Maybe it started when she portrayed Ramona Flowers in the epic classic Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and I was just to blind to see it.  Perhaps it got locked in during Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) at one of the many points that Winstead was stealing the show as Huntress.  All I know is that I was hooked when Netflix threw Winstead at me, plus Woody Harrelson, a ton of Japanese aesthetic and even a Tortoro tank top at me via their latest cinematic venture, the action-packed Kate.
youtube
Kate is a modernized update on a blend of revenge film and film noir that is centered around feminine energy in an extremely masculine world, and all of it is given the high production cherry on top to make that narrative darkness shine.  In terms of aesthetic, mood and tone, the film is definitely a winner, and easily one of the best looking Netflix productions to date.  Kate falls somewhere on the spectrum of properties like Kite, Leon : The Professional and touches of Hanna in terms of its female representation in the world of action, with women that are allowed to be themselves rather than feminine-skewed tough guys, but are still clearly capable and skilled at the same level of their male counterparts.  There are also touches of honor and having a code in the criminal underworld, examinations of dark cyclical mechanisms that takes lives and a bit of an estranged sisterhood thread going on between our female leads (not to say that they are sisters, but they are certainly kindred spirits forced together by fate and destiny).
Unfortunately, the story does run a bit thin in terms of substance, and with the film falling just a shade under two hours, it essentially feels like a side-scrolling video game turned cinematic experience.  The situation beset upon Kate is a tragic one, with the falling dominoes of broken trust, an attempt to leave a family system that doesn’t let go and the inevitable double cross that is putting a ticking clock on her life all hitting hard, but all of this takes place in act one, and the rest of the film is a revenge fantasy with an unclear target despite its respectable body count.  There is something there to work with in terms of the connection between Kate and Ani, but by the time that their paths cross again, Kate is essentially in Terminator mode, which relegates Ani to the role of talkative, irritating and reluctant sidekick.  This does work for a time, but with so much narrative thrust dedicated to the revenge (and redemption) aspect of the film, it becomes an auxiliary aspect that feels abandoned during the third act resolution.
The film is extremely technically proficient, so much so that it buoys the thin narrative by providing us with a purple neon presence that continuously breaks out of the darkness, deep depth of field close ups that frame our characters among a blurred neo-futurist Osaka and long lens observant shots that amplify Kate’s journey towards her end.  The combat elements of the film are serviceable, but the gunplay and stunt sequences make up for the lack of natural feel in the combat sequences.  The music choices lean deeply into the location of Osaka, helping to make the film feel extremely immersive.  It goes without saying that, based on locations, the atmosphere shots are breathtaking, with the luminescent glow that breaks up the Osaka darkness really making its presence felt.  A special shoutout goes out to the costuming department, who not only captured the gravitas of the Yakuza and other crime lords, but managed to find both the childlike innocence that Ani clings to in her outfit choice and the air of badass confidence Kate carries with her in her outfit (especially the aforementioned Tortoro tank top).
Mary Elizabeth Winstead is not only surprisingly believable as an orphaned assassin with her intense focus and overly confident demeanor, but she also has the empathic awareness to make adjustments in terms of how she interacts with other characters, which in turn creates very interesting connective arcs.  This is best displayed in her interactions with Miku Martineau, who could have easily been the one note lovingly annoying sidekick, but as her character Ani reveals truths about her troubled past and dangerous reality, Winstead’s Kate is able to find pure common ground without having to sacrifice her dying goals or her gruff exterior.  Woody Harrelson does what he does best by injecting charm into roles that are otherwise one-dimensional, only to give us a glimpse at that underlying sinister nature he channels at the point of character turns.  Tadanobu Asano leans into his opportunity to play the young underworld rebel who scoffs in the face of tradition with great aplomb, while Jun Kunimura offsets this by bringing a silent and still grandness to his old world characterization.  Appearances by Michiel Huisman, Miyavi, Kazuya Tanade and a trio of performances by Amelia Crouch, Ava Caryofyllis and Gemma Brooke Allen as young Kate round things out.
Kate is enjoyable for what it is, but I don’t know if it has the substance or sting needed for me to return to it down the road.  Maybe I will if I get on a big Winstead kick in the future, or if newcomer Miku Martineau finds breakout success down the road, but I’d be lying to myself if I said that Kate stood in the top tier amongst its peers.  That being said, there’s a reason it’s currently the number one trending film on Netflix, as it looks like a million bucks, so if you’re in need of a quick stimulus jolt without a deep mental or emotional commitment, then this film may be right up your alley.

Music Review: 2020
My blog has been a lot of things over the years, but it did originate as something I used to publicly review music; especially in the Visual Kei scene. Since I began the blog so many years ago, I had actually been hired to review Visual Kei and J-Rock music for an actual website: VKH-Press.com, work I am very, very proud of to this day. However, with not much news to comment on or work to critique, I haven’t been as active. Plus, personal issues always seem to stand in my way. However, I always take the time to discuss my passions at the end of the year. There were so many incredible releases, despite the COVID-19 pandemic, and so I wanted to take the time time to discuss my favorite releases and, maybe, the not-so-favorites as well. Quick shout out to Bastille’s Goosebumps EP and Megan Thee Stallion’s Good News LP as I did not get to listen to them before I wrote up my lists, but were still excellent releases. See my thoughts below!
Overall, there were about 75 albums or groupings of albums I listened to this year and split them between various tiers. Starting with the bad tier, there were actually only ten albums listed here and mostly just because they were seemingly unnecessary collection albums. For example, another Satsuki collection? Rides in ReVellion releasing two greatest hits LPs after only five years of work? Beyonce releasing The Lion King: The Gift again? None of those felt like necessary releases. There weren’t many albums that really screamed bad to me this year, but I really could not stand Vanessa Carlton’s “Love is an Art” or Justin Bieber’s “Changes.” The only other albums on this tier were just underwhelming compared to what I know the artist is capable of, but the “best bad tier album,” in my view, was The 1975′s “Notes on a Conditional Form.”
The mid-tier albums had all sorts of reasons for being only mid-tier. They weren’t quite bad or outright unnecessary, but are mostly by artists who put out work that was nowhere near the caliber of their usual work or were re-releases or other collection albums. For example, Tove Lo’s “Sunshine Kitty: Pawprint Edition” or Man With A Mission’s remixes/b-sides/covers albums. Nice to have with good quality music, but I wish we’d just have had brand new EPs or LPs.
The good-tier albums were all really excellent releases, but didn’t hit home the way anything on the “God-Tier” list did. Here, I’d like to share a quick top ten:
10. Taeyeon’s “Purpose: Repackage” & Japanese EP, “#GirlsSpkOut” 9. Charli XCX’s “How I’m Feeling Now” 8. Miyavi’s “Holy Nights” & “Holy Nights: 2020 Lockdown” 7. TK’s “Sainou” 6. PVRIS’s “Use Me” 5. Buck-Tick’s “Abracadabra” 4. Katy Perry’s “Smile” 3. Alicia Keys’ “Alicia” 2. Dua Lipa’s “Future Nostalgia” & “Club Future Nostalgia” 1. Ava Max’s “Heaven & Hell
Without furhter ado, though, the God Tier Top 25:
25. Acme’s We Are Visual Kei: Essentially a collection album of several songs that were b-sides that never made a full-blown album. This LP was loaded with some of Acme’s best work and shows that they are going to be here for a long time, despite Div not quite working out. Recommended tracks: Mononoke Requiem, Gekiyama Celluloid, Houkago no Shiiku
24. Alanis Morisette’s Such Pretty Forks in the Road: Admittedly, a huge fan in the 90′s and loved her cover of Seal’s Crazy. However, before this album I didn’t really listen to much of her body of work and I can see why today’s youth might not listen to this album. It is very “adult” insofar as it deals with her struggles in marriage, parenting, religion, etc. Her vocal performance is exceptional and her song writing remains some of the best in the business. Recommended tracks: Smiling, Nemesis, Reasons I Drink.
23. Niall Horan’s Heartbreak Weather: Not my usual cup of tea, but for some reason Niall’s music makes me feel softer than normal. He’s very cute and charming and his words are always so romantic. It feels more genuine than the music made by other members of One Direction and kind-of reminds me of earlier Taylor Swift writing, but from a male perspective. Recommended Tracks: Put A Little Love On Me, Arms of a Stranger, Still.
22. K/DA’s All Out: I don’t even really understand what this is, but I love it. There’s something to do with League of Legends? Cartoons? International pop stars? Whatever it is, I’m totally obsessed. These songs just completely slap. Recommended Tracks: The Baddest, More, Drum Go Dum.
21. Darrell’s Brilliant Death: This might even “officially” be a single, but there’s enough content to market it as an album. Darrell is a band formed from the ashes of Deathgaze and Ai’s solo project. Who knows why Ai didn’t just continue after his solo album, Confusion, but he decided to go back to the band-format with confusingly-named Darrell. This album is then, incidentally, mostly Deathgaze covers. It brings the production into the new era and gives you a lot of nostalgic love for old hits. Recommended Tracks: Brilliant Death, Evoke the World, Abyss.
20. Alice Nine’s Fuyajou Eden & Kuro to Wonderland: Neither album was particularly long, in fact these were glorified EPs that could’ve been merged to one two-sided LP, but in either case... Both albums had something really special to offer and felt like a true comeback after years of name changes and finally going back to their original, kanji-styled name. Recommended Tracks: Kakumei Kaika -Revolutionary Blooming-, Testament, Replica, Glow.
19. Mucc’s Aku: This album felt very long in the making after a series of weird singles that didn’t feel like they were going anywhere. Ultimately, a lot of those singles did not make the album including my favorite one: Taboo. The resulting album, though, did feel very cohesive and thematic and even featured one of this year’s heavy hitters: Hazuki. Recommended Tracks: Aku -Justice-, Memai, Ameria.
18. Miley Cyrus’s Plastic Hearts: This person is absolutely one of my favorite people in music. I’m pretty sure they have comeout as genderfluid/non-binary, so I want to stick with safe pronouns, just in case. However, they’ve always been a favorite and as they’ve come out as such a champion for the LGBT, I love them even more. The album though gave me a lot of hype for something very 80′s rock, but didn’t quite give me what I expected. All in all, the music was fantastic, just a little off-beat from expectations. Recommended Tracks: Gimme What I Want, Angels Like You, WTF Do I Know.
17. Rina Sawayama’s Sawayama: I didn’t expect to fall in love with this girl the way I did. My boyfriend recommended “STFU” to me as kind of a joke because the song discusses a lot of Asian racism that I’m always criticizing people in my life for falling into, but then the song was so bad ass I checked out the album. There were so many different types of music on it and she really did a good job with all of them. Then, with the deluxe edition coming out and the hardcore club banger “Lucid” being involved... Just really brought it all home. Recommended Tracks: Tokyo Love Hotel, Lucid, Fuck This World.
16. Amber Liu’s X: This was just an EP, but every song on it was great. Amber Liu was from f(x), a K-Pop Icon Group, but she always seemed like the odd one out. She was such a tomboy, so silly and funny all the time, and didn’t really behave like other Korean idols. I mean, really, she isn’t actually even Korean. I believe she’s Chinese American. In either case, the EP really noted some of her own personal strugles in the business and also remaining pretty fun at parts too. I saw her live in Philly before COVID-19 and she was truly excellent. Recommended Tracks: Numb, Stay Calm, Other People.
15. Blackpink’s The Album: Not much of an album at only 8 tracks, but that’s K-Pop for you. I bet next year I’ll be putting “Blackpink’s The Album: Repackage” on my top 25 list. The quality of the music was pretty dope though, all things considered. It was a very solid debut effort with all of their previous songs being somewhere in the same lane as this one. I still kind of believe they are a reminder of what 2NE1 could have been, but they’re doing well enough on their own. Recommended Tracks: Ice Cream, Lovesick Girls, Pretty Savage.
14. Hazuki’s Year Over All: Kind of a weird way to word it, but Hazuki basically released two albums this year in different formats. His work with his band, Lynch., was pretty magnificent. I’m not one to usually dwell on a Lynch. album. Their singles or featured tracks are what I usually get into, but the actual album (Ultima) really did a good job of showing how versatile Hazuki can be. His solo album, Souen -Funeral-, was an entirely stripped down, gothic orchestral album of Lynch. covers and other J-Hard Rock artists. Hearing it done like this was almost transcendental. Recommended Tracks: Xero, Idol, Ray, D.A.R.K.
13. Sam Smith’s Love Goes: They had me scared that their album wasn’t coming this year once they pushed it back, back in May. Then again, at the time, an album called “To Die For” was probably super tone deaf. In any case, literally every single released for this album had me in love. So, when they all got included in the final version, I was thrilled. Sam gave us a bonus song after the album as well, but I can see why that one didn’t get on. In any case, this is a huge step up from “The Thrill of it All,” which I didn’t really care for. Recommended Tracks: Another One, Dance (’Til You Love Someone Else), Forgive Myself.
12. Troye Sivan’s In A Dream: I love this kid. He’s so gay and so not shy about it and it really makes me smile. The EP comes after his last LP, Bloom, where the title track basically talks about bottoming for the first time and this new EP deals with a few other queer issues over weirdly produced beats that just... make sense. Recommended tracks: Stud, In A Dream, Easy.
11. Matenrou Opera’s Chronos: Unfortunately, this band just lost their guitarist again. Their original, Anzi, was basically the most consummate guitarist in the visual kei scene that wasn’t Hizaki and he left them. Their sound wasn’t quite right since and they seemed to just get it back with Chronos when Jay left them. I guess we’ll see what they do next, but I think Chronos could be their last great release. Recommended Tracks: Chronos, Silence, Reminiscence.
10. BoA’s Better: A very recent release that hasn’t had much time for me to digest. This is strange for me to put it so high on my list for that reason, but BoA is one of my all time favorites. She never disappoints me. This album was no different. It wasn’t exactly up to par with “Woman” or “Watashi Kono Mama de Ii no Kana,” but it definitely gave us some new and very iconic Queen BoA bangers. Recommended Tracks: Cut Me Off, Start Over, Temptations.
9. Kesha’s High Road: A semi-step down from Rainbow, only because a lot of the same melodic elements and, sometimes, even beats were used on this album too. However, her vocal performance was outstanding and she even gave us a new dirty-pop song with some interesting indie-pop tracks to go with it. Plus, who doesn’t love a Big Freedia feature? Recommended Tracks: Resentment, Raising Hell, Tonight.
8. Lady Gaga’s Chromatica: Anyone who knows me knows I don’t really love Gaga anymore. After all the drama with Madonna and her experimentation with “Joanne” I didn’t think I’d ever like her music again. However, she definitely won back big points for me on Chromatica. It was finally fun, weird, dancey, and then simultaneously emotional and I was really able to get back into it. She’s always had the voice, but on this one it also showed us that she still has what made us love her. Recommended Tracks: Rain On Me, Plastic Doll, Enigma.
7. Koda Kumi’s My Name Is... Angel + Monster: She is, very likely, my Japanese Pop Queen. She always makes these absolutely outlandish bangers of dance tracks that have such a great attitude and beat and when she released re(CORD)... last year? 2018? Who can remember... I thought she could never outdo herself. Then she released “Lucky Star” and I was floored. I was a bit disappointed when they were only to promote a “My Name Is...” collection album, but then, to my surprise, a full set of new tracks came out just after that just blew me entirely away. Guess the last 6 albums must be pretty great, huh? Recommended tracks: Killer Monster, Work It!, Alarm.
6. Grimes’ Miss Anthropocene: I’ve never been a big fan of Grimes, but when Violence came out I was really looking forward to whatever album this was going to end up promoting. The song is actual fire, but then the LP ended up being some kind of experimental Gothic Pop with Asian Pop influences I never expected. I doubt I’ll ever find something she does this good ever again, but it was really a musical light in the darkness of this year. Recommended tracks: Darkseid, Delete Forever, Violence.
5. Kylie Minogue’s Disco: Admittedly, my draw to Kylie has always been that she is like some kind of Australian Madonna. Madonna being one of my all time favorite artists... In fact, number 2 for all women I listen to, Kylie has some big shoes to fill with her sometimes generic pop that she puts out. However, I haven’t really truly loved a Kylie song since “Get Outta My Way” and then this album comes out filled with tracks to love for the rest of time. Recommended Tracks: Miss A Thing, Till You Love Somebody, Magic.
4. Chanmina’s Notebook/Angel: I don’t have really any way of knowing how popular Chanmina is in Japan or if she is as popular in the Japanese Queer Scene as she should be, but god damn does she know what she’s doing. Her music is raunchy, bitchy, and condescending at it’s highest and deeply personal at it’s most mellow. There is no “lowest.” “Notebook” was a two-sided album and “Angel” a strong follow up EP, but all the recommended tracks are from “Notebook.” If you have not listened to “Picky”.... go do it now, I’ll wait. Recommended tracks: Picky, Baby, Lucy.
3. The Weeknd’s After Hours: Incidentally, I got into The Weeknd after someone said something shitty about him here on Tumblr! I took their likely-valid criticism and went to check him out for myself and I gotta say, I love his work. The beats are literally always on point and his voice is like silk. This album provided more than a few iconic songs and I always can’t wait to see what he does next. Recommended Tracks: Alone Again, Heartless, Blinding Lights.
2. Halsey’s Manic: The singles and features she did between Hopeless Fountain Kingdom and Manic gave me such insanely high hopes and I was not disappointed. HFK was a strong album of course, but this was near perfection for me. I think the production of this alt-pop album was the star of the show because it wasn’t all one way, there were heavy-bass songs, interesting piano riffs, striaght up punk rock, all of it. She really made an album quite like it’s namesake. Recommended Tracks: Ashley, Killing Boys, Still Learning.
1. Dexcore’s Metempsychosis: A newcomer to the visual kei and death metal scene, they’ve been putting out single after single for years in preparation for their extemeley long and multidaceted debut album. With a total of about 33 songs, the entire second disc was rerecorded singles from their early days and some even got new lyrical treatment. The main series of songs were, of course, also totally flooring and all of the recommended tracks are the new ones. If you haven’t checked them out by now, you have to! Recommended tracks: Cibus, Scribble, Period.

Do headphone extension cables affect sound quality?
In the 4ohm to 8ohm range of resistance, headphones operate. Usually, at 4 ohms, but some sets use 8ohms. You’re going to get resistance from the wire, but not a lot.
Enough that you will find a distinction of VOLUME at 100ft. Audio Output is not going to decline, it’s going to be the same electric signal with less amplitude. This is when it comes to amplifiers.
When you echo, the signal travels through another unit, the electrical properties of which change the sound quality itself. On sockets, you can even get some excess noise.
Get one long cable, less noise from power, clearer audio. One or two connectors, of course, are typically not dangerous. Other than that, you’ll probably hear a bit of a clicking sound.
Do upgrade headphone cables make a difference?
Some businesses create ‘audiophile’ cables and charge up to 100 bucks for em! In total, there is no real empirical evidence that super expensive cables do anything to enhance the consistency of your voice.
Are all 3.5 mm cables the same?
The jack (typically green) usually only includes 3 ties (3pin) left & right sound channels and ground in laptops and has a separate jack for the mic (usually pink color) while the same jack has a fourth connection (4pin) in cell phones that acts as a mic input.
It saves space and is compatible with a laptop or some other popular 3.5mm sound connector.
