Ok, but hear me out…
The stash, the curls and no sideburns, Pete’s pirate like shirt in the stash vid, what if we’re getting like an alternate world version of them? Like if life had gone a different way? Or a silly future flash to where they might be in a few years?
I know we had an alternate world in Buck’s coma dream but I just can’t believe they’re getting rid of Buck’s sideburns for a whole fucking season!

Jeff Buckley; Obituary
June 7, 1997
Jeff Buckley, guitarist and songwriter, drowned on May 29 aged 30. He was born on August 1, 1966.
ALTHOUGH he was the son of Tim Buckley, one of the most influential American folk-rock singer-songwriters of the 1960s, Jeff Buckley was thought by many to have eclipsed his father's career with his 1995 debut album, Grace. A collection of unusual cover-versions (Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah , Benjamin Britten's Corpus Christi Carol ) and his own compositions, Grace was a showcase for Jeff Buckley's astonishing vocal talents.
Once described as "a choirboy singing in a whorehouse", he could go from dirty-kneed, Kurt Cobain-style screaming to the purest top C in a breath; before embarking on a scat-jazz odyssey that would last ten minutes or more. Employing a mixture of folk, funk, grunge and jazz, Grace won Buckley the Rolling Stone Best New Artist Award in 1995.
On May 29, while working on the follow-up album in Memphis, Tennessee, Buckley and a friend went to a marina on the Mississippi to relax. Buckley, fully clothed, waded into the river singing, and was swept away by the wake of a passing boat. His body was found a week later.
Jeff Buckley never knew his father - Tim was a lothario with a drug-habit that kept him restless. Although Tim released eight critically-acclaimed albums, his sales were always disappointing. He left Jeff's mother when Jeff was six-months-old, leaving her to support Jeff and his younger brother through a variety of dead-end jobs. They had a nomadic existence, moving from state to state; and the pressure of his mother's work left Jeff to bring up his younger brother on his own.
Although he dedicated the song Dream Brother to Buckley senior, Jeff was frequently disparaging of his absent father - claiming he inherited his musical talent from his mother. At one of his London concerts in 1995, a member of the audience kept shouting out Tim Buckley's name - Jeff responded by miming the inhalation of heroin and falling to the ground in convulsions, before "dying" by the drum-riser. Tim died of an overdose in 1975. He was 28.
As a result of such an unconventional upbringing, Jeff Buckley turned to music at an early age. He was a regular on the New York folk scene, playing to crowded bars in rough-and-ready half-hour slots. One of his trademarks was to begin singing soft and low, gradually raising the volume and pitch until the audience became totally silent and entranced.
His first, limited-edition live album, Live at the Sin-e , was released on the independent label Big Cat in 1994. Such was its critical success that Sony Records signed him up for his first proper release, the Grace album, within months.
Buckley was disparaging of his status and burgeoning "legend" - and often bemused by record companies waiting on him hand and foot. One of his favourite jokes was "How many Jeff Buckleys does it take to change a lightbulb?" "Oh, it's okay, Jeff, we'll do it for you, we know a guy in Brooklyn who's wonderful at changing lightbulbs. He'll do it for a couple of points (royalties) on your album."
Although the Rolling Stone award raised his profile in the US, it was in Britain and Ireland that Buckley's career was based. His audience was diverse - from fortysomethings checking out Tim Buckley's son, to more avant-garde teenage girls, impressed by his cheekbones and haunted eyes. John McEnroe and Chrissie Hynde were regulars at his concerts - Hynde and McEnroe once spending an evening jamming with him after a particularly triumphant London appearance.
Songs such as Last Goodbye - a shivering blend of folk, blues and Buckley's scatting, ululating voice; and the dolorous, harmonium-led Lover, You Should Have Come Over - had marked Buckley out as a new Van Morrison, someone with limitless talent and range.
His last British appearance, at the 1995 Glastonbury Festival, was a chance to premiere new material, post- Grace. Songs such as the astonishing What Will You Say When You See My Face - built around Eastern chord-structures and endless, despairing blues arpeggios - confirmed that Buckley was on an artistic roll that might have resulted in dozens of treasured albums.

100 Albums To Understand Muse - Part 5 [STYLE Series #004 - Muse (August 2010)]
Tumblr media
GONG Flying Teapot (1973) French progressive band led by David Allen. The trippy sound developed on a grand scale is often described as ‘space rock’. This album also features Steve Hillage's skillful guitar playing. A sound attraction aptly described as ‘music to be experienced’. -M
INTERPOL Our Love To Admire (2007) Pioneers of the post-punk revival of the 00s, hailing from New York but strongly influenced by UK new wave (Joy Division, Echo and the Bunnymen, etc.). This third album is based around a conventional sharp sound that blends dark wave and neo-psychedelic music, but with Rich Costey as producer, the overall grandeur and glamour of the band is amplified. -I
JANE'S ADDICTION Nothing's Shocking (1988) The style of Jane's Addiction, which is based on heavy rock and sprinkled with extreme colour psychedelia, is similar to Matthew's, including Perry Farrell's outlandish metamorphosis. The music, the staging, every part of the band is just sparkling and flashy. No wonder Matthew used their eccentricity as a reference. -J
JEFF BUCKLEY Grace (1994) A New York singer/songwriter who disappeared into the Mississippi tributaries at the young age of 30 with only one album to his name. His father was singer Tim Buckley. Matthew cites him as the one who removed his resistance to singing in falsetto, and even played the intro to the title track on a French radio programme. -H
THE JESUS AND MARY CHAIN Psychocandy (1985) A fusion of sweet pop melodies and distorted, eardrum-pounding, violent guitar noise. The debut album from the Glaswegian band led by the Reid brothers, who caused a stir at the time with their innovative approach. A historic work that influenced many later bands and movements such as shoegaze and grunge. -I
JIMI HENDRIX Axis: Bold As Love (1967) As a guitarist, Jimi was a tremendous influence on Matthew. A ‘genius’ who has never existed before or since in rock history. Of Jimi, Matthew says: "He was a genius, but he wasn't afraid to fail. I think that sincerity is a lot better than just playing perfectly". This is his second album as part of the trilogy of the Jimi Hendrix Experience. -K
JIMMY EAT WORLD Bleed American (2001) Arizona four-piece who have supported Muse on tour. Although the band is often introduced as emo, it should be pointed out again that, along with the Foo Fighters, they became the template for rock in the 2000s. Their third album is one of their best-known works, and is packed with great songs such as ‘Sweetness’ and others that are both fast-paced and poignant! -T
JOSE CURA, OLGA BORODINA, COLIN DAVIS & LONDON SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA Saint-Saens: Samson Et Dalila (1998) Inserted in ‘I Belong to You’ is the famous aria from the opera Samson et Dalila, ‘Mon cœur s'ouvre à ta voix / My heart opens at the sound of your voice’. Matthew, a romanticist, has a typical sense of humour. Delilah is a hit role for Olga Borodina, and Samson is a profound listening experience with Jose Cura, who is very popular in Japan. Highly recommended. -M

Cabaret (2021 London Cast Recording) Review
This began as a text to my mom, but it became something I’m honestly kind of proud of. I have no one else to send it to, so Tumblr it is.
I am completely blown away by the new Cabaret recording. Jessie Buckley is amazing as Sally. Her voice is incredibly smooth and jazzy, but carries her emotion so profoundly. It’s a vessel for pain, pleasure, fear, and extravagance. She can really sing, which is rare for most Sallys (they usually rely on screaming the whole time). In my opinion, her standout performances are “Mein Herr,” “Don’t Tell Mama,” and “Maybe This Time.” The only song her voice is slightly underwhelming on is, ironically enough, “Cabaret.” That’s the only recorded performance from the show they’ve released though, and from what I’ve seen from it, this is her chance to act rather than sing. It’s more unhinged, but equally as chilling.  Redmayne brings his Les Mis vibrato to the Emcee, which is rare for the character, and it’s just stunning. As iconic as Liza and Joel Grey are, the London cast certainly rivals them. Tomorrow Belongs to Me sounds like a church choir instead of a creepy Small World Doll (the reprise is like a soldier’s march), and Money is like a chilling mystery-movie score instead of a quick gag to separate acts. Buckley and Redmayne are inarguably the standouts, but not to a fault of the rest of the cast. No one leaves Cabaret and says “I guess Liza Minnelli was okay, but wow that Fraulein Schneider really blew me away!” It’s okay to have standout performances. I really like that, I’m assuming, they recorded it live. The laughing sounds really organic and without it a lot of Redmayne’s comedic timing would fall flat. The score and vocal performances become grittier and more like the “typical” Cabaret as it progresses, symbolizing Berlin’s fall to Nazism. It brings a lot of nuance and artistry to the show that is usually sidelined for the sake of it being Cabaret. The third to last song, “I Don’t Care Much,” sounds like it’s out of Phantom or such. It’s always been in the show, but this is the first time I’ve taken note of it while listening. That really speaks to Redmayne’s portrayal of the Emcee. The last number is chilling. It wraps up the absurdity of the show and weighs it down with the gravity of the reality of 1930’s Berlin. Redmayne ends the show singing alone with a single accordion, then with a gradual build-up of percussion that finally resembles the brutal sounds of war.

London, since you love Halloween, what sort of costumes do you think the characters would wear? (I know we see a few in S2 but I wondered if you have any other ideas too)
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿: I literally love this question lol. I’ll pick a few characters. I could see Eddie being something simple, like a pirate or a rockstar. Max loves Halloween, so she would want to be something scary each year!! She would be the type to add blood and gore to her costumes. Steve would absolutely go as Marty McFly from BTTF or Ferris Bueller! I think the teens (Steve, Nancy, Robin, Jonathan, Eddie) if they were all friends would 100% be the Breakfast Club for Halloween! Robin would go all out one year and be Beetlejuice LMAO face paint/makeup and everything. I could also see El and Max wanting to be the twins from The Shining and trying to terrorize the neighborhood lol, and I’m fully convinced Robin and Steve would go as the Blues Brothers one year 😂
