Dawg…..i NEED NEEED NEED more of Chris Nibling with the other campers please 🙏 🙏
You ask, you shall receive ;D
CHRIS MCLEAN’S NIBLING! READER AND CAMPERS (CONTINUED HEADCANONS)
Tumblr media
“Where did I leave it...?” The pretty blonde girl wondered around the campsite one day, in search of something. She finds you sitting in your beach chair and the missing item fades from her priorities,“Oh! Evening (Y/N)! Woah...you look tinier than I remember...”
“Huh?” You look up at her. Did her mind go on holiday again?
“Yeah! You’re like a little kid, I’m surprised they let you on the show!” She blurted out. Yep, it has.
“That’s because I am a kid! Not a little one.” You proudly remind her,“A little kid wouldn’t own a makeup kit now, would they?” you held up the one you found to her, not knowing it was hers, let alone what she was searching for until she squalled.
“Omg!” She plucks it from you, her long hair shimmering with the sun,“Thanks (Y/M)! You’re like my Santa’s little helper! Oooo! Have you ever tried this stuff?”
“The makeup?” You tilt your head,“Isn’t it for adults?”
“It’s for everyone!” Lindsay averred,“Oh, it’s a must! Makeoveeer!”
The idea startled you,“I don’t know... Uncle Chris might not-“
“Ohhh we’ll be fine! He’ll totally change his mind after seeing it!” She was very certain, which could either mean it’ll go exceptionally or horribly.
Only one way to find out.
"So lucky!” She holds your jaw up,“You're still at that age where you can eat whatever you want, whenever you want!”
"Huh? Can't you also eat whatever you want?" You asked your beautician of the day, unaware of adolescence’s side effects.
"I caaaan't! Too many carbs and butter tarts is bad for you!" She complained,"You break out into hives, grow hair everywhere and get taller...!"
“Eww!” you pull a face of repulsion,“I can’t imagine what you’re going through! It sounds so hard!”
"As Buddhism says, it's a part of life if you wanna keep tanning." A breath of sorrow, she searches her bag,"Okaay... Um, let's start off with the foundation!"
You watch her squirt some of this skin matching liquid on her blender,"Do you know what you’re doing?”
"Sure I dooo! But I bet you didn't know that when I was eleven, we had this charity called something Foundation visit us at school and they weren't even about make up!” She begins to dab it on your cheek,“So glad I exposed those con artists in front of everyone! What kind of charity deceives people like that?"
Uh huh...
"Eyeliner time!" She declares, hoarding the blender back into her kit.
You didn’t recognise what “eyeliner” was until she took it out, a pen looking thing,“Ohh I know what that is! My uncle uses that all the time! I always thought the way he did it looked creepy.”
“Uncle? You...have an uncle?” She repeated wide-eyed like the term was foreign.
“...Chris?”
“Ohhh right!” Her mind brought back to the minimum work,“That’s where I know you from!”
Having that needed to be recalled, you were kind of getting scared about what was she putting on your face.
“Let’s add a beauty mark therrrre! And you’re done!” She takes out her mirror and holds it in front of you,“Tadaa! What do you think?”
“It’s the wrong way, Lindsay.” You lightheartedly inform her.
“Oops! Sorry!” She flips it around, and you see the final product at last.
You gasped...
Wow!
Maybe it’s because you were inexperienced with makeup, but in your eyes, Lindsay was phenomenal, the very best: the shine on your nose and correctly placed pastels were all so glamorous to your young mind, you felt guilty for ever doubting her. She knew what she was doing!,“I love it! I love it, I love it, I love it! I look like those models Uncle Chris talks to sometimes! I don’t think I ever wanna wash my face again!”
"You're welcoooome!” The “dumb princess” chimed, twirling her finger around a strand of her hair,”Still think he won’t like it?”
Absolutely not! Maybe if he likes it enough, you could convince him to replace his current make up artist with her! Fingers crossed!
Hearing DJ, you jump into a non-lethal bush and waited until he was in your peripheral vision to grab his attention.
“Thought I heard you (Y/N)!” he warmly came over to you, used to your ways of a child,“Everything alright with you?”
“Yep!” you emerge, lifting your head up to make eye contact with the tall jock,“I wanted to know if...you wanted to feed the squirrels with me.”
“Aw, I’d love to-“ He paused. He had to remember that this adorable child was related to Chris,“Count me in!”
"Yay!" You pull onto his large hand and led him into the woods. Seeing a family of squirrels, you lean on a log and pass him your spare bag of nuts. While you waited for the bushy tailed rodents to warm up to you, DJ had a very serious question to ask.
“What’s the name of your teddy?”
Oh man! You were going to miss him so much when he goes,“Mrs Maple! She was there for me since day one! Chris got her for me.”
He takes a second to appreciate your innocence, connecting the story to his relationship with momma,“You really love him a lot, don’t you?”
You made a fuss from his imprecise words,“Mrs Maple is a girl!”
“I know that! I meant Chris.” Now they were precise; even at your error, he managed to not raise his voice if it meant the feasting squirrels could continue entrusting their vulnerability to the both of you.
“Ohh! Yeah, I love him a lot too! He’s on my top ten favourite people list(and so are you)! There’s no uncle in the world I would trade him for.” You exclaimed, goodbye-ing the squirrels in your thoughts,“Aww...”
Luckily, you weren’t left alone by nature’s animals for long; something further away moves into your sight, slow and mature. You excitedly point it out,“DJ, do you see that? There’s a moose over there!”
And he returns the excitement, by picking your smaller body up and sitting you on his shoulders. Woah! You’ve never been this high before! “Let’s get a closer look! Moose are also friendly.”
With his hands secured around your legs, you spread your arms out, mimicking an airplane,“Weeeee!”
Another session of free time led the campers to be diffused everywhere on the island, so there were very few people in the mess hall- such as Harold, Leshawna, and yourself, who was playing uno with Duncan. The stack was currently a green 8, like his mohawk. It’s Duncan’s turn and he takes a pause, before smirking.
“Two plus six makes eight...” he places down two cards at once, a blue two and a blue six.
This boils you to take discipline,“Pick up two cards, Duncan! You can’t do that, that’s cheating!”
“No it’s not!” He revolted back.
“Is too!”
“Is not!”
“Is too!”
“Is not!”
“Is too!”
“Is not!”
“Is too!” you huff,“Chriiis!”
Having being called, your uncle gets up from where he was sitting and comes behind you,“What’s the problem?”
“Tell Duncan he can’t do that!” You demand, throwing a finger at the smug juvenile delinquent.
Chris complies to your exact words, by repeating in a dull tone,“Duncan, you can’t do that.”
“Aww come on, dude! You should’ve seen what I did! Look and decide as the host if it’s fair.” He gleefully folds his arms.
So Chris does and whether it was so he could see you irritated or that he genuinely liked what Duncan pulled, he approved of it.
“Hah! Sorry smarty pants!” Duncan laughed in triumph at you gritting your teeth,“Looks like you’ll be the one picking up two cards!”
You throw your deck at him,“No I won’t, because I quit!”
“Aww, is someone mad they couldn’t handle my genius?” He derided, resting his face on his palm, monobrow wiggling.
“Shut up, cheater!” You stuck your tongue out at him,“Cheater!”
So annoying!

I'm so happy we finally got more of a backstory and a happy ending for Namsom and Kor in City of Stars, even if some of the flashbacks were super painful to watch.
There's this part when that horrible, hateful aunt is being intentionally cruel and transphobic, and I think the translator did a really good job of substituting cultural differences and a lack of gendered pronouns by having the aunt intentionally misgender Namsom:
Tumblr media
Still, I don't think the subs quite manage to bring across how incredibly rude and hurtful and transphobic (and homophobic too btw) she really is.
Because in Thailand/Theravada Buddhism sons often ordain for a few weeks or months to honour their parents/family. This isn't expected of daughters. See where this is going?*
(*That being said, some conservative temples/monasteries might not want trans or queer people in general to ordain either because they view queerness as a distraction and/or a bad karma.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then there's this bit where the English subs again intentionally use the wrong pronouns but in the Thai original the horrible aunt calls Namsom a slur (tut/ตุ๊ด - which afaik is used for [effeminate] men only) along with kathoey (กะเทย - which is NOT a slur, even if that horrible woman meant it that way) - making it very clear what exactly she thinks of her.
And later, when Namsom tells Kor that she is kathoey (and negl that scene almost broke my heart for so many different reasons 😭), she shows him her ID card.*
Tumblr media
Currently there is no way for trans folk in Thailand to change their legal sex, meaning that whenever they have to show any kind of ID (which afaik happens quite often in professional environments) they automatically out themselves. The marriage equality bill that's currently underway will hopefully change that soon. 🙏
(*This was also a plot point in My Ride when one of the moto-taxi drivers discovered that his crush was trans when he found her purse - and he didn't care either. 🥰)

Fortune favors the bold
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
- XXI The World (-> Earth/Ongsa) = accomplishment, seizing opportunities the universe presents, confidence in one's place in the world - XIX The Sun (-> Sun) = joy, positivity, enlightenment, light illuminating the truth - X Wheel of Fortune = destiny, soulmates, change, growth, the wheel turning in one's favor
Tumblr media
ก็เหมือนกับโลกที่มันต้องมีแสงสว่างจากพระอาทิตย์ไง /gaaw meuuan gap lohk thee man dtawng mee saaeng sa waang jaak phra aa thit ngai/ -> โลก /lohk/ = Earth, the world -> แสงสว่าง /saaeng sa waang/ = (bright/brilliant) light
And that's what she's been doing all episode 🥺♥ Sun's brightness and warmth give her confidence!

AAAAAAAAHHHHH this can be read as both 'They/That person does like you' and 'I do like you'

Sun's horoscope
Tumblr media
How is Sun a Gemini, you may ask? It's me, I asked, so I went and researched it for everyone lol
In astrology, there's two ways to divide the ecliptic into the 12 signs - tropical and sidereal.
Tumblr media
(source)
Western astrology generally follows the tropical zodiac which is based on the Northern hemisphere's seasonal cycle, lining up the equinoxes and solstices with the ecliptic. Vedic/Hindu astrology follows the sidereal zodiac which is based on the observable sky and thus accounts for the Earth's axial precession and the seemingly backwards movement of fixed stars over time, caused by the Earth's axial tilt of ✨ 23.5 degrees ✨
All of this to say- Sun is a Gemini in sidereal astrology!
First contact
Aylin's coming out of her shell!! I loved her this episode, trying to make friends, expressing herself more and being genuinely funny.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
มนุษย์พี่นี่โคตรไร้สาระ /ma noot phi nee khoht rai saa ra/ เมื่อกี้น้องว่าไงนะ /meuua gee nong waa ngai na/
-> ไร้สาระ /rai saa ra/ = nonsensical, lacking meaning/substance, which got subbed as "That's bull." earlier in the same scene??, combined with โคตร /khoht/ here, which is an impolite colloquial intensifier, sounds like "You're full of crap, senior human." lmao
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1) ฉันกับยัยเจริญพรจะคอยช่วยแกแล้วกัน /chan gap yai Charoenporn ja khaawy chuuay gae laaeo gan/ 2) เจริญพร /ja reern phaawn/ = Yes.
2) Charoen's full first name is เจริญพร /ja reern phaawn/: เจริญ /ja reern/ = to prosper, prosperous, to pray/chant; พร /phaawn/ = blessing, benediction เจริญพร /ja reern phaawn/ is a word used by Buddhist monks for 'yes'/assent/response, just like ครับ /khrap/ or ค่ะ /kha/ are used, for example. There's a whole set of vocabulary/register that's specifically used by and with monks and in the context of Buddhism. 1) Tin calls Charoen ยัยเจริญพร /yai Charoenporn/ several times this episode lmao - ยัย /yai/ stems from ยาย /yaai/ = grandma, and can be used in a friendly way to call a woman or derogatorily (kinda like 'hag', I guess?) It's all in the context but that can be said about a lot of things in Thai language djsdhsjh It's comparable to colloquial ไอ้ /ai/, a prefix for mostly male names, e.g. ไอ้ติณห์ Ai'Tin, to call someone in a friendly or- cursing way:
Tumblr media
ไอ้มนุษย์บุลลี่ /ai ma noot bully/
Obligatory 1st person pronoun moments because there's only the two three*, she doesn't use any otherwise:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
1) เรา /rao/, 2) calls herself alien again, 3) ข้า /khaa/, which sounds old timey *edited to add her fortune teller shtick

Ended up in a fun little research hole last night about gnosis/gnosticism/valentinianism bc of your blog. Thank u for the food 🙏 twas fascinating
I'm fairly new here (to your blog, I mean. Tumblr is a long-standing curse) - I noticed you mentioned youre writing a book about magic. Do you tend to do deep dives on your Patreon about all the world religions, or do you have a special focus on practices originating from Christianity? :0c my apologies if any of these questions are redundant
The most common question I get on this blog is "I'm interested in this stuff, where do I start?" But there's never been a book I could just hand to people and say "here read this it will get you up to speed."
My goal is to give people a kinda roadmap so they can look at a magical idea, and figure out not just where it came from, but the actual, historical, context that it exists in. No ahistorical theosophist nonsense.
I'll be focusing on the west. I'll be mentioning Hinduism, Buddhism, African Diasporic Religions, etc, but only in the context that they're relevant for magical history. 99% of the time that means "A Category 1 White People Moment" if you catch my drift.
For example, I'm not going to be talking much about say, 1850s Tibetan Buddhist esotericism, because it generally doesn't show up in the west. But I WILL be talking about Blavatsky coming back from Tibet and telling people she learned magic from ancient vedic ghosts or whatever.
If you wanna check out my drafts on Patreon, it's pay what you like.

KILLING ASSUMPTIONS
"A few years ago I saw a comic strip of some students approaching a yogi on a mountaintop. This yogi had a bottle of bourbon in front of him. With a look of surprise,
one student says, “Oh! The guru drinks bourbon too?” illustrating the assumption that gurus should set an example of virtue. Disciples are often surprised if a guru drinks alcohol, eats meat, or has girlfriends. But in the tantra, you cannot make assumptions. In fact, assumption is a weakness that tantric Buddhism will toy with and ultimately kill.
While some followers are put off by the Vajrayana’s incorporation of sexual imagery and wine, there are others who take the Vajrayana path because of these same things. Or because in their minds Vajrayana is less misogynistic than the other yanas. To them, the segregation of men and women in the Mahayana and Shravakayana traditions is a form of misogynistic fundamental religious extremism. You can’t really say one yana is wrong and another is right. But if you have strong feelings about how a guru should behave, you may not be fit for tantra. The reason Taylor loves Reggie can be the very reason Bon Bon despises Reggie. Likewise, all the personal qualities that attract you to a particular guru can very well be the qualities that turn others off.
Assumption is a mouse, and tantra is the cat.
When I told my Tibetan friend Wangchuk the story of watching His Holiness the Sixteenth Karmapa dipping tobacco and spitting the juice into carefully folded papers, I was full of praise because to me, the Karmapa was so elegant and majestic even when he did something so truck driver–like. His habit of popping this disgusting stuff into his mouth while sitting on the throne had such an impact on me, in a nice way. So many people feel nostalgic about his famous love of birds, but I was just as inspired by his snuff habit. It increased my devotion. But Wangchuk immediately denied that it ever happened. He insisted that the Karmapa would never use tobacco. When I finally convinced him, he implored me not to tell this story to anyone else. I had to say, “He’s not good enough for you now? You would prefer a Karmapa who doesn’t do snuff? And you want me to keep it a secret?” As if the Karmapa needs to be protected from a bad reputation.
It’s not just Wangchuk—we all want our leaders to be perfect.
When I recounted the same story about the Karmapa’s snuff habit to Kyabje Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche, he advised me to collect that spit in the envelope the next chance I had and make a life-protecting amulet from this precious substance. Unfortunately, I never had another chance.
If you think collecting spit is disgusting, there are still countless Buddhist paths to choose from. You may be “happier” on a spiritual path that confirms your beliefs, values, ethics, and morality. But if your goal is of the highest sort—not limited to saving the world or dismantling your own ego, but to liberate all beings—you could be perfectly ripe for Vajrayana. Instead of being a conformist and settling on a secure and safe path, you should dare to follow a path designed to unsettle you,
a path that will destroy your comfort zone. And you should be persistent in that daring.
The compassionate tantric guru’s function is to deconstruct your assumptions, so expect the unexpected."
~ from The Guru Drinks Bourbon?
"Choosing a guru and deciding to follow him or her to enlightenment is as precarious, exciting, rewarding and destructive as falling in love and getting married. You know it’s risky, but that’s the part that cracks you open. This is your journey. You are choosing the tantric path so that the cracking happens. . . . Our pride and our ego should always be on edge, not knowing what will happen next.”

Hi.... If you don't mind me asking, can I ask, what are your top 10 (or top 7) favorite media (can be books/ manga/ anime/movies/tv series)? Why do you love them? Sorry if you've answered this question before.....
hi! i definitely dont mind, this is such a fun ask so i'm SO SORRY ive only answered now 😭 also im horrible at explaining my thoughts so please bear with me...
1. jujutsu kaisen
i can go on and on about jjk but I'm trying to keep this short so I don't go on an endless rant. OKAY. i love the power system of jujutsu, it's simple but also pretty flexible and creative, i love the historical and traditional aspect of it + how it ties into clan culture, i love how it branches into barrier techniques, reverse cursed technique, binding vows, etc. for characters like gojo in particular i love how he's pictured as the strongest and how akutami shows the gap between him vs all other sorcerers, like he was in a whole different league and how his birth changed/tipped the balance of the world of jujutsu. i love the whole "saving others" thing like how yuuji wants to save everyone, megumi wants to save good people, nobara wants to save the people who mean alot to her, gojo thinking abt how he can only save people who want to be saved, geto wanting to save sorcerers from non sorcerers, etc. i like how the series has aspects of history (like how sugawara no michizane was a sorcerer and how his descendants include the gojo clan is ⅓ of the three main clans of the series, and basically the entirety of tengen (lol)). i love the anime adaptation and how crazy the animation is (when s1 came out i was alr baffled but after watching s2 and looking back at s1 im even more impressed at their development), the manga's artstyle i was a big fan of but now not so much (the scratchyness and alternating thick and thin rough lines around the time of shibuya arc were PEAK). besides that as a buddhist myself, the multiple buddhism references in the series really cemented my love for it as it felt familiar and it feels like ur getting a shout out esp since most shows feature themes of catholicism and christianity.
2. blue lock
i'm honestly unathletic af idk why im here. i think what hooked me was the whole individualistic + egoist concept and the elimination setting (like squid game) 🙏 for me blue lock's prime is [2nd selection, 4v4] until the end of [u20 arc], i really liked the art style during that period! sadly, i feel blue lock has fallen off ever since the current NEL arc, it feels as if theyve deviated from the original ego concept (fuck this whole "protagonism" thing man wtf) and the artstyle has undergone changes im not particular to. also the anime wack af.
3. bungou stray dogs
im going to be honest. i did NOT like bsd. s1-s3 was too all over the place for me and i really did not get the series at all, i actually thought it ended but then they released s4 & s5 in 2023. almost a year since s4 came out, i came around to watching it and i got HOOKED, i think a big factor was that there was less fillers and a lot more action scenes, plus the detective vs mastermind thing truly popped off in s4 + s5. besides that, i enjoyed the introduction of new cast and the return of previous ones (now as allies). sure, there's plot holes and the anime cuts off a handful of scenes but it WAS an incredibly enjoyable watch. plus i'd say bsd has mountains of content (atleast in comparison with other serieses) because besides your usual manga, anime, and occasionally stage play adaptation. you have the alt univ. BEAST, light novels like stormbringer or 55 minutes, wan!, and even bsd gaiden (which has nothing to do w the main series)
4. haikyuu
THE classic. it was the first anime i got into when i started quarantine and it brought back my animanga phase. i love how the characters all have interesting stories to tell, their own motivations and personalities. lots of teamwork, teambuilding, found family(?) aspects, plus all the themes have their own specific themes which i dig a lot (ex. inarizaki and their foxes + shrines). plus i love how this series captures the thrill of watching sports, it MIGHT be overexaggerated to some but i get lightheaded when theyre at match-point and on the verge of losing so it does provide some kind of high. OH and i like that they show realistic wins and losses.
5. hunter x hunter
i have not read the manga but this show was serious to me. i'm a sucker for meta and power systems, and nen is like... actually insane. i love the characters SO MUCH, the variety of designs and appearances, how the series shows the way they grow throughout their adventures and experiences, the way they show a character's relationship with the rest of the cast, etc. it also gives a somewhat nostalgic vibe? i love the opening, endings, OSTs + narrator. it truly does feel like ur tagging along on their adventures, it was a real tearjerker for me tbh.
6. avatar: the last airbender + the legend of korra
i think atla is an amazing show bcs 1. cool setting and world building 2. the cultural references 3. cool dynamics 4. character personalities and development 5. cool power system and fighting styles 6. found family etc etc... ITS A COMPLETE PACKAGE. im p sure not much are fond of tlok but i love it. i think some reasons include the fact that korra isnt like aang, but i think thats what makes tlok interesting, korra is 17 when the show starts and the show continues to follow how she grows and develops into a fully realized avatar both physically and spiritually. i also think its bcs of how they modernized bending and how lots of the cultural aspect is lost but i think its an incredible and interesting way to showcase real life modernization.
7. jojo's bizarre adventure
jjba CHANGED ME 😭 this series is actually insane like if it was a person please get it to a mental ward. i think as an artist, it holds a very dear place in my heart. the show itself is absurd and unbelievable so it keeps you on your toes (dont mind the plot holes and inconsistencies, at some point you're just gonna have to live with it). but the selling point for me is the characters, everyone has amazing, colorful and distinct designs that match well with their personalities and overall air. not to mention the artstyle and references in everything to everything? lol. the show's different parts also feature different main casts, dynamics and storylines, sometimes they do a callback to a previous part.
okay! it was very hard choosing between the 7 of them but i think they actually were the ones that truly left an impact on me. thank you so much for the ask i finally got the chance to ramble about the stuff i consume 😭😭😭 there's a lot of media I'd love to talk about and mention so maybe one day ill make a post on hopefully all the media ive consumed.
honorable mentions:
genshin impact
i started genshin in 2021 when 1.3 came out, i was dead serious about this game during quarantine. i love liyue so much its what truly got me hooked (everything from the music, the sights, etc. for me liyue/pre inazuma was prime genshin), i enjoyed building characters and doing showcases too. started losing interest when sumeru came out and slowly stopped logging in/playing daily. the reason i wont put this in the actual list is bcs im pretty clueless about the new characters and story, nor do i have much interest in them. (i came back to do the lantern rite event, love the new liyue regions!)
detective comics
i love action and fights, especially when they feature powers, so liking superheroes makes sense 🤷 DC gets shit on alot bcs of the DCEU but the films aside i like DC better than marvel. im particular to gotham and the batfam, it's just more dark and gritty, plus there's lotsa drama going on LOL. the gotham knights cast also branches alot like to young justice (I LOVE YOUNG JUSTICE 😭), teen titans, titans, birds of prey, and ofc justice league.
chainsaw man, mob psycho 100, code geass, assassination classroom, neon genesis evangelion, trigun, fairy tail

Somehow i just don't get why masaki bursting his coffee when minato's apron fell down😆 what do you think?
Someone on twitter made an amazing theory about it—no, the whole book 3 and it's related to buddhism
Oh, boy. Somebody went there. About fucking time.
It’s more like the entirety of the three volumes is veeery heavy on Shinto and Buddhist references. I’ve said this a lot before but Tsurune is a story with many, many layers. There’s literally an infinite amount of these references in the story from the very beginning of volume 1. The closer you look, the more of them you find. I haven’t touched upon the great majority of them because if you try to step into those waters, you just never get out.
I always say that every work of fiction is a fanfic of something, and Tsurune is a fanfic of Shintoism x Buddhism, lmao. Everything in it has a meaning that is specifically tied to these two things. I’ve lost count of the times I was reading what seems like an ordinary bit and got slapped in the face with historical throwbacks. My advice is to pay good attention to Minato and Masaki’s interactions, because that’s where most of it comes from. I dare say that the author even goes into dangerous territory sometimes but I shall not elaborate.
Also, I would love to see that theory! Can you link it, please? 🙏
