An elaborate ceremony for its preparation and consumption developed which sought to foster the appreciation and beauty of life's simple luxuries. In addition, tea drinkers were able to discreetly display their good taste and wealth not only by serving what was a relatively expensive commodity but by reserving their very best porcelain for drinking it.

I would like to introduce a lovely hand crafted porcelain piece cup stand which is associated with Qing Dynasty 19th Tongzhi Emperor Reign 11 November 1861 – 12 January 1875.I have been advised, that this cup stand could be from the Ming Dynasty as well. But the following unique painting technique, it's more likely from the Qing Dynasty. The cup stand is offered in excellent original condition without loss, damage or restoration. Dimensions: length 120 mm; width 80 mm; height 22 mm. You can see symbols from Quilin and Many Deer. These creatures are a symbols of luck, good omens, protection, prosperity, success, and longevity by the Chinese. I believe that this item could be a serious object of a collectors interest. I couldn't find this cup stand on the market. It could be exclusive and a valuable item. Stunning accent for a luxurious interior.

Donggwanwangmyo (shrine) 동관왕묘 built in 1601. An ancestral shrine where sacrifices were performed for general Guan Yu 관우 關羽 who lived during the Chinese Three Kingdoms period. His life was popularized in the historical novel The Romance of the Three Kingdoms 三國演義. Ming requested this shrine to be built for the help it gave to Joseon during the Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1592. #korea #seoul #koreanhistory #travelkorea #guanyu #romanceofthethreekingdoms #shrines #joseon #mingdynasty (at 서울 동관왕묘) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cp_p3jAPshZ/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

1368: China and the Making of the Modern World
Globalization is a current buzzword in business, communications, and politics, especially in this early part of the 21st century. Traditional American historical interpretations focus on the post-World War II era of the 1950s and 1960s as the beginnings of globalization. As Ali Humayun Akhtar argues, however, globalization began over 650 years ago in China. The information contained within 1368: China and the Making of the Modern World is not new; I studied much of this as an undergraduate. What makes this book refreshing is its Asian-focused perspective and its unique assertion of when our modern “globalized” world actually began to take shape.
What makes this book refreshing is its Asian-focused perspective and its unique assertion of when our modern “globalized” world actually began to take shape.
It is obvious that Akhtar, Professor of Asian Studies at Bates College, is passionate about his subject matter. He chose 1368 as his focus point because it was the year that the Ming dynasty succeeded the Yuan. Even before European trade ships reached Chinese shores, the Yuan had actively cultivated trade networks between the Ottoman Empire, Middle Eastern and Central Asian Muslim empires, and regions in Southeast Asia. Their goal was economic but also political as the Ming sought to gain tributary clients.
