I think the other thing about it is that sometimes what you get out of art says a lot more about you than it does the artist. and what you see in people says more about you than it does them.

the people who looked at Gaiman's work and saw beauty and love for humanity and a life worth living may have been looking at the mask of a monster, and they may have been seeing a bit of something real in an otherwise abusive person, but what they were definitely seeing was a reflection of something already inside themselves.

your relationship with art isn't just about the art, and it isn't just about the artist. it's about you. you are a lens the art shines through, and you are a part of the conversation the art is having, and you are reflecting and being reflected through and by the art, and you are echoing and interpreting pieces of yourself alongside pieces of the art.

the THING. is that wkx is charismatic in a way that sj is not. Shen Yuan is charismatic. wkx is charismatic. we can see him charming uh zhao jing and the rest of the five lakes alliance. he has his off-putting swagger sure but he also. cannn....play pretty nice and cool and human if it serves him. and shen jiu, when he is feeling unsafe and ill at ease, cannot. he does not have that skill. (he could have a different charisma probably but he just doesn't seem to want to. We have no idea what shen jiu wants he's a black box. he doesn't "like" "anything")

Shen Jiu is a fan of the fans as a signifier of class and dignity and he can hide behind them. They might make him look like a whore but that's better than looking like an immature rage filled little at least whores are good people. Shen Jiu likes fans for their aesthetic value primarily. He would hold the fan if it wasn't a weapon. For Shen Jiu it issss like a security blanket.

Wen Kexing, on the other hand, couldn't care less truly. He likes the fan because it is a socially acceptable hidden weapon to wave around, but he'd stab someone with a chopstick. or a recorder. Wen Kexing likes the fan because he can impress his crush with all the cool fan tricks he knows (around the world, anyone?) Petition to get this man a butterfly knife.

For Shen Jiu, the fan is a personal identity thing. The fan is the one accessory that has never betrayed him. For Wen Kexing, this is a stim toy he could kill someone with. It is personal for Shen Jiu in a way that it is not for Wen Kexing.

A few things have come out in the last couple of days that are not the best...

This interview was released on the 23rd (A.C.E's debut anniversary so thanks for the timing Kim Beat...) where she re-writes history and also claims that A.C.E left because they wanted to do solo activities but Beat wanted group activities... the same A.C.E who talked non-stop about ot5 comebacks, a full album, etc - and Beat were the ones doing single after single with 300 fancalls only - and now they have left Junhee is doing everything he can to get them back as a 5 and they all talk about wanting to do ot5 schedules and can't wait for Junhee's company to get big enough to manage them all. Wow even talked openly that because they were now solo he thought of not being an idol any more, so we know it's all lies.

then the day after that an interview with Tamzin Choi dropped when he said Beat contacted him two days before filming Under Cover to create the choreo - only two days before the music video filming etc was already booked. Remember for Higher, Beat also 'forgot' to get any choreo so A.C.E spent the night before coming up with it. I'm sure Junhee said something like they were up for 48 hours straight. The mis-management was endless.

Then after dismissing and denying them on the 23rd, and removing A.C.E from all their socials, now A.C.E's Dingo Live stage (everyone who reads this give it a watch 🙏🏽) has done well, Beat has added A.C.E back into their youtube description and added the Dingo Live. The Live that Choice won by themselves on A.C.Es independence day and Beat did nothing to get, (I worked hard on those votes and so did many others), now they want credit for it. Check their other socials, A.C.E is still removed.

Finally Beat also have the A.C.E 2025 fan club that people paid for that hasn't posted a single thing since March - not even a post for the two birthdays that have passed and then nothing for their debut anniversary. Plus the fankit that people paid even more money for is 'still in production' months after it was due to be posted out.

my personal headcanon is that lucanis actually remembers some things about his parents but its vague and kinda warm and fuzzy (and caterina helps by adding onto this bc his mommy was her FAVORITE) but illario has no memory bc he was so young and yet obstinately refuses to hear anything abt his parents that is criticism bc he likes the version of them in his head more than trying to scrounge a full picture out of the people around him who knew them because he can never fully perceive them through other ppl's eyes and biases.

"Now, I want you to understand we don't normally do this," the mech says, peering over his optical enhancers at Heatwave. "We're really going out of our way to make an exception for you."

Heatwave resists the urge to roll his optics, hearing the gentle chastisement of his guardians in his processors. He can't fuck this up, especially without them here to pick up the pieces. "I understand," he murmurs, resigning himself to staring at the glyphs on the nametag on the mech's desk.

He'd gestured to it when he'd invited Heatwave in, as if expecting him to read it and then address him as such. A really stupid thing to expect of mechs normally, but beyond that considering what Heatwave's in here for.

"That being said," the mech starts again, pushing the optical enhancers back up his nose, "we cannot provide all the accommodations you're requesting."

Heatwave vents deeply. "Yeah, yeah- wait, what?"

The mech is looking at him like he's a sparkling throwing a tantrum. "Respectfully, Heatwave, you're here for firefighting. The best we can do for you is audio recordings of lessons and tests, but that is it. I'm sure you can find a friend to translate your homework and readings for you, but we simply do not have the resources to pour extra effort into a single student."

Heatwave's jaw snaps shut with a click. "Any quick coding program could make an audiobook of the textbook," he hisses through gritted teeth. "I don't understand-"

"Well if it's so easy, do it yourself or find someone else to," the mech interrupts, his optical enhancers flashing white as they catch the light. "Now, do you understand, or will you waste more of my time?"

Heatwave's optics cycle wide. Desperately, he tries to keep himself in the chair before he does something that'll have consequences a lot worse than them not meeting his requested accommodations.

It's fine. It's fine it's fine it's fine. Heatwave can handle this, like he's handled everything else. What's one more thing?

Besides, his roommates aren't so bad. Maybe he could talk to one of them? Chase, probably, even though he's got a stick up his exhaust pipe he can be weirdly reasonable about stuff. Yeah. Yeah. He's got a plan, he can do this.

"I understand," Heatwave growls. He needs to hit something. He needs to hit something so bad.

And if this mech doesn't dismiss him right now it's going to be his face.

"Good," the mech hums, tapping at a datapad. "Feel free to pop by if you have any real problems."

Heatwave's fuel pump abruptly cramps painfully, and yeah, the consequences of his actions and all that. He doesn't say a word has he leaves, tasting blood as his new fangs puncture his glossa.

He digs crescents into his palms.

Hope whoever's in the sparring room doesn't have anywhere to be.
