Last week’s #MTAMusic Auditions were a blast! Approximately 45 performers took the stage at Grand Central Madison, and we are excited to announce that 24 of them have been added to the Music Under New York roster. Illustrations by Joan Chiverton capture the energy of the auditions and each musician’s style. Congratulations to the new additions:

Amazing Hammered Dulcimer Player in Central Park NYC

You guys need to know that the other day me and my friend were walking down the main street of my town and this busker saw my friend and was like, "I should play welcome to the black parade" and he started to play it... Only thing is he was playing a ukelele. So there's this dude and his son playing the black parade on a ukelele and a bass guitar. And you know how the song goes "to join the black parade" and then the guitar comes in really strong and it repeats that start part? Well out of fuck no where, this dude drops his ukelele PULLS OUT A FUCKING DOUBLE KAZOO THING and starts playing that for the guitar bit!!

Best day ever, thought you guys needed to know about the ukelele and kazoo black parade.

Lestallum’s buskers have some pretty fancy instruments!  Although it doesn’t sound like it the guy on the left is playing a sitar type instrument with many strings.  The guy on the right is playing a conga drum with a highly decorative metal band.  The badge that is difficult to read but I believe it says “Owens Trading”.  Their singing might not be up to much but they always draw a crowd. They aren’t the only sitar players in town.  Early in the game you may have noticed the lady eating mother and child bowl.  Resting on the bench next to her is a leather bag and an identical sitar.  Perhaps there is a sitar players convention in town?

I knew Sugar as a fellow busker around Picadilly, London in the nineties. The drawing turned up in a loft in Wales a few years ago. A friend had minded it and other works after I had disappeared and left for Ireland. Pencil on paper
