"Maybe I needed it once. But I trained here, with The Flying Graysons, before I trained with you, Bruce. You know what the key is to a good trapeze act? Letting go...trusting that there's someone on the other side to catch you. You taught me a lot. But I learned from them to leap into the light. We're not the same, don't you see, Bruce? I had you." -Detective Comics #1074
hang on a minute y'all, I need to go scream into the abyss
Mcr, that one band where people get sad about voting on which member we like the most and which album we like the most, bc all the members are equally important and all albums are equally important so we try to figure out other ways to decide what we like the most, bc we suck at choosing between the four albums and the four members

I'm sure you've already answered that but what was the criteria to choose the main picture for the poll? Because i think it has swayed many polls for the worst, at least to me, like there were some slightly grainy pictures or with very bad lighting that obiviously didn't paint a very flattering image
I really hate comments on the poll pics and am on my last nerve, but ok, sure, I'll answer this.
In the original submission form for the hot men poll, I didn't make including photos mandatory. That means a lot of people came in, dropped names of their fave hot guys, and left. I had 320+ submissions and a couple days to get the bracket together. When I could, I used a submitted photo. When I couldn't, I did my best in a quick time frame to find a photo that showed the hot man decently—avoiding ones cloaked in super dark, sexy shadows where you couldn't actually see the features, or ones that didn't really convey the hot guy's vibe. But still, a lot of photos to sort really quickly, and I didn't have time to go looking for the perfect photo for every hot guy. I tried.
With that said, we're on round 4 of the bracket and have been doing this since Christmas, and whenever anyone's pointed out the photo isn't great and supplied a better one, I've switched it. I really have no patience left for bitching about the photos—there's been plenty of time for people to submit better ones, and at this point if you hate a photo, you can either tell me constructively and supply a new one or realize that what you find attractive doesn't do it for everyone. the laurence olivier pic discussion alone shows an apparent 50/50 split on whether he was hotter as a Typical 1940s Leading Man or An Eyeliner Cloaked Drag King. I do my best to get the photos to match the hot man's vibe, even if it isn't quote-unquote "sexy," and if these polls show anything it's that sexy is a different concept for everybody.
tl;dr if I see another thoughtless comment about the poll pics—or something like the above, lovingly worded to point out how lacking they find photos that have been up since December—I'm blocking. Help me solve it or get out.
still can’t believe it. all i have to say is please shut up about the win being overshadowed by the team fucking up the strategy cause i can’t take it anymore – i’m so mad i think i’m this 🤏🏼 close to losing it. mclaren i’m on your walls 👊🏼 but let’s enjoy OSCAR’S FIRST RACE WIN IN FORMULA 1 !!! 🧡🧡🧡🧡
& let’s NOT talk about the disaster/clown show that was max’s race. don’t talk to me if you have anything to say about it, i will not take it well today. my pookie didn’t do anything wrong, the journalists just need to stop asking dumb questions. 🫠👋🏼
So I know we here at Startrekfandom love that "came back wrong but from the pov of the wrong" thing and apply it to many different characters and canon situations and I am far from trying to complain about it (I'm "came out wrong" trope myself so I was always gonna obsess over it) but having recently watched a very important episode (you'll know which one) for the first time I think there's a character who hits both tropes mentioned but llike, intertwined, opposite and subverted, and whom I wanna talk about.
Julian Bashir.
From his parents' pov he's "came out wrong but we got him help and he came back better" while from his own pov it's "came out 'insufficient', was destroyed for it, came back wrong and only later slowly came to terms with his new self tho never the process (justifiably so)" and it's heartbreaking because in a way, he's right! Jules Bashir died! His parents had an intellectually disabled child and decided to eugenics him! Julian is not the person he used to be and while I do love the person he is now, that doesn't bring back who he was! Part of me wishes we could've gotten to see Jules at least once and part of me hopes we never do because my heart would shatter.
This isn't a good comparison but nonetheless one I can't help drawing: it's giving similar vibes to anti-vaxxers. "I'd rather risk having a child who is dead than one who's autistic". Obviously this doesn't map over since Julian is still autistic and the procedure his parents subjected him to specifically targeted his intellectual disability and if any folks with id wanna comment on this I definitely recommend you listen to them over me, but it's a similarity I, as an autistic who has encountered anti-vaxxers again and again, can't help but point out. "Give me a normal child or give them death."
This may have been written about already but there needs to be stories about teenage Julian (after finding out and rediscovering who he was) practicing some good ol' recognition of the self through media. I need to hear about how he would encounter a story about someone who came back wrong (I'm gonna assume there's plenty of "wrong" pov stories floating around by the 24th century) and absolutely weep. I need to see Julian mourning Jules, taking years and years to process his feelings, experiencing guilt about how he, the imposter, didn't deserve to live Jules' life.
Came back wrong from the returned's pov but it wasn't an accident. It was done to you deliberately by the people who claim to love you. And now you are here, piloting the corpse of your predecessor.
alright chat . it's time for "dissecting the inherent tragedy of transformers: botbots and the relationships in them":
toxic doomed yuri edition ( referring to these two ↑ )
(yes, i made this picmix myself 4 this. i have no regrets. also no tl;dr because you guys NEED to read this)
something i want y'all to understand is that it is Not about the idea that spud wasn't loved. he was VERY much loved by everyone, ESPECIALLY burgertron.
the whole point is that he sabotaged himself in the process of ruining someone else's life, someone who valued him and his word above others. he and burgertron BOTH let their ego get in the way of their personal lives, the only difference is that burgertron at least had the dignity to swallow his pride and apologise when it mattered most.
He gave spud a second chance because he loved him. because he recognised that he does deserve redemption, and above all else, he wants spud to know he cares, even if that means he'll never see him again, or they'll never be friends. (Even in light of the "sidekick" comment, i genuinely don't think he held any inherent malice in that statement. even if burgs was an egotist, he still loved him.)
the worst thing burgertron did in their relationship was be unaware, and im sure that despite his ego, he never meant for spud to get hurt. that's why he went out of his way to protect him, when he couldve just stood there and let spud get put on the back of a truck to never be seen again. it would have been easy.
but he didn't. he did the hard thing. the Right thing. he stood up for someone who never did the same for him.
Spud Was Loved.
Spud Is loved.
and sometimes love isn't going to look pretty, or manifest in holding hands and cuddling, and it isn't all rainbows and sunshine. it can hurt.
it can be letting go of someone who you hurt by accident, who you never meant to harm, but it happened anyways because you made the fatal mistake of being oblivious.
And that's what Burgertron did. he let Spud go, because he understood they both needed time to heal on their own terms. regardless of if he's mad at him or not, he does still harbor positive feelings for him, and he stood up for him during times he probably shouldn't have. If he ACTUALLY hated spud, he wouldn't have stuck his neck out for him at bot prom. or believe spud when he was lying through his teeth in the games.
And that's what makes them so tragic. perhaps in another world, another life, they'd have been Actual good friends, who truly stuck by each other. maybe things would have been different.
idk y it took me this long to notice that midori is wearing a ring in the cuddle drawing. r they marriage?!
i was thinking of just matching/promise rings of a sort rather than an actual proposal but feel free to imagine as such.... didnt think either of them would love huge flashy surprises so something like slipping it on while asleep has always seemed rather cute (ˉ▽ˉ;)... its my being cheesy hours dont look at me
Sometimes I think of Amy Pond, who grew up being called mad by those who wielded the word as a tool of exclusion and shame —
Amy Pond, who though forced into the hands of four psychiatrists, still clung to that which they called madness until those systems which elevate psychosocial conformity above humanity stripped it from her —
Amy Pond, whose imaginary friend reappeared for a single hour after twelve years and reignited that faith before disappearing for two more years —
Amy Pond, who spent those those two years under the same implicit threat ingrained in her through psychiatric violence, and thus began to believe the man who stopped the invasion was “just a madman with a box,” only for him to agree, and to also call her “mad, impossible Amy Pond,” reframing madness as non-negative for the first time in her life —
Amy Pond, who ignored the disembodied voice of her imaginary friend even as she ran away with him for real, who still lived each day with the traumatic internalization of deviancy dictated upon her by the psychiatric-industrial complex that shaped her from childhood —
Amy Pond, who wouldn't acknowledge the Doctor's voice, such that it took an Angel in her eye that was literally killing her to ensure she couldn't reality check herself —
Amy Pond, who stood before a room which muttered about “the psychiatrists we brought her to,” and though afraid, escaped their rigid parameters of acceptable existence.
