One scenario I have been thinking about:

Poppy, freshly in a relationship with Branch, wants to do something nice for him and show that she is an awesome girlfriend. She knows that Branch likes chocolate very much. So, what would be the most normal course of action?

One morning, Poppy sits in her pod and scrapbooks peacefully until Branch comes barging in and says calmly: "Poppy."

Poppy: "Hello Branch, how are you doing? :)"

Branch:".....I'm fine, just, eh, one question. - Was it you?"

Poppy:"Whatever do you mean, sugar boo?"

Branch:"Well, you know, I mean the THIRTY CONTAINERS OF CHOCOLATE IN MY BUNKER! How do I know how many there are? I COUNTED THEM!"

Poppy:"Oh, good, you found them."

Branch:"Well, they are kinda hard too overlook. How did you even get them in there and why do you have so much chocolate at your disposal?"

Poppy:"Being queen comes with certain perks, Branch. But I will not elaborate because there are secrets that I am not yet willing to share."

Branch:"Oooookay? But, for the love of god, tell me why, what was the reason? Why did you put a comically large amount of chocolate into my home?"

Poppy:"Oh, it is rather simple, really. For you see: As your girlfriend I want you to feel happy and secure. I know that you like chocolate. I also know that you have been alone for the last 20 years, so, the twenty containers of chocolate are supposed to make up for that, and the other 10 are supposed to be kind of a promise, that for the next ten years I will be by your side and you won't be alone. I, of course, want to stay longer with you that just 10 years, but I did not have more chocolate at hand to show it, sorry about that."

Branch:"......Look, I appreciate it and I think it is very sweet of you, but it does not make sense."

Poppy: "Well, the math is mathing, so it makes perfect sense to me."

Branch:"Poppy - you can't do something like that."

Poppy:"Do you like chocolate?"

Branch:"Y-yeah, I-"

Poppy:"Do you have room in your bunker to store it?"

Branch:"W-well, yes, but-"

Poppy:"So, what is the prob?"

Branch:"P-Poppy, it is not about the technicalities, it is about the principle. You can't leave 30 containers of chocolate in my home, that is too much. How much time will I spend to eat it? Why would you even do something like that?"

Poppy:"I love you and I want you to be happy, that should be reason enough. And besides, there is nothing that I could give you that would be too much, it is rather always the question if it is even closely enough.*grabs his face in her hands and looks at him* There is nothing too grand for you, because you are the coolest and best Troll I know, so don't sweat too much about the details, ok sweat cheeks? :)"

Branch *visibly blushing*:"....You are going to be the death of me. I always thought more of a heart attack type of situation, but I guess I will be probably die from diabetes."

I really enjoyed Trolls 3 but there were a few things that bothered me. The main one being how Poppy handled Branch’s feels and valid concerns about his brothers (specifically John Dory). Long post incoming lmao.

I think one of the main reasons I loved World Tour when it came out was how it handled one of Poppy’s main character flaws: not listening to others. With optimistic characters like her, it’s easy for them to lean heavily into that “everything is great and positive and there’s nothing we can’t fix!” attitude. World Tour showed that that type of mentality can be detrimental to others when there’s real danger around. In the scene after the Rock Trolls attacked the Funk Trolls and Cooper sent them away in a bubble, Branch expresses his frustration with Poppy for not listening to him and several other trolls who tried to advise her/tell them how they felt the whole movie. And at one point he says “you never listen to me”. Poppy seems to internalize what both Branch and Biggie said to her in the end, but I think Band Together backtracked on that progress.

I understand Poppy wanted what was best for Branch but she truly was not listening to him. Instead, she just kept talking about hypotheticals, and what she would do if she had a sibling without taking into account Branch’s actual relationship with his. One of my biggest pet peeves is when people vent about their family to someone, and then that person tells them they’re lucky to have their family, and that they wish they had what the other person has. It’s very unhelpful and tone deaf. I just wish Branch had a moment in Band Together where he confronts Poppy about that like he did in World Tour.

I know people like to meme/joke about it a lot, but Branch’s story really is tragic if you actually think about it. He’s held onto guilt over his grandmother’s death, and the separation of his brothers for decades. He spent years thinking that his brothers would one day come back to him, and eventually, slowly, came to the realization that they never would. Now, years later, he’s face to face with them and is being told by Poppy that he should be grateful that he’s with them despite everything that’s happened? Idk it just didn’t sit right with me, specially because it was never fully addressed as an issue.

I finally decided to watch Trolls: Band Together, so I present you my opinion that you never needed or wanted! Yuppie!!

Some of you have probably seen my angry rant about it before the movie was released, but you know what? FUCK YOU, PAST ME! Past me can shut the fuck up and jump into the pit! At least partly.

I still have stuff I don’t like here, like Viva’s design. Because THE HELL?? I love her hair, her voice, her movements, BUT COULDNT THEY GIVE HER AT THE VERY LEAST DIFFERENT HEADSHAPE? She looks like a Poppy copy, make her look older, you fucking cowards

Branch’s brothers were adorable, I like the way they were introduced. Could have been better and way less rushed, but I waited for worst, so I’m satisfied, I dunno? I like them as characters, very nice very nice. Also. If 3 of them escaped… Were trolls so afraid of bergens they didn’t even try to escape in small groups at night or something? Ok, fine, moving on, it’s not like we’re getting answers

Maybe I didn’t like the idea of tons of siblings, because this plot idea is very cliché and that makes it so so easy to fuck the plot up. But the way they added siblings wasn’t too bad, I guess? Brothers added more trauma to Branch, great angst potential for all five, nice. And Viva shown us once again not to trust King Peppy— Wait. Why did he let Poppy go to Bergentown in the first movie again—

I’m so SO relieved that I wasn’t completely right and especially that I was super wrong about Broppy. AND THANK FUCK THAT I WAS WRONG! They’re healthy, they’re still their flawed selves, but they’re trying their best, they’re adorable, they don’t have artificial drama shitshow!! Hell yes!

Also Bridget and Gristle. They were dorks and I liked them. Gristle is just going along with everything Bridget does and admiring his wife. Big mood, man

Moving from good things.

I’m upset that the plot didn’t add trolls from other tribes. Like, Poppy and Barb could have bonded as friends! Come on! But another subplot would have been too much, I agree. The movie has enough stuff to deal with without it, it’s upsetting, but understandable.

That’s also probably the reason why the movie feels rushed. It’s hard to give attention to every character during that short amount of time, I understand that. But it’s still sad.

I still weep. Because they cut Lady Gaga’s song Applause. WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYY?????!! *in indescribable amount of pain*

In conclusion. I thank Goddesses that I wasn’t completely right. The movie wasn’t horrible, I’m so relieved! It could have been better, but same about the first and the second movies. And maybe I’m gonna share some troll theories in the future, I dunno, but there probably will be sketches. Maybe :)

You Are My Sunshine Chapter 6

“Branch! Branch, help me!”

Branch watched, almost too stunned to move, as Sunshine was being swept away by the raging river. She repeatedly sank beneath the waves, coughing and shouting for him every time she resurfaced.

“Hang on, Sunshine,” Branch yelled, trying his hardest to outrun the rush if water and save the little troll. His pounding heart sank when he realized they were quickly approaching the edge of a waterfall.

Just before she reached the end, Sunshine managed to grab onto a nearby tree limb that was poking out of the water. “Hurry Branch,” she shouted, “I’m slipping!”

“Grab on,” Branch shouted, flinging his hair out to her. Just as she let go of the tree, a wave pushed her further away from him. He looked around for something, anything, else that he could do, but it was all in vain. He watched helplessly as she was swept over the edge of the waterfall, screaming his name as she fell.

…

“Sunny!”

Poppy jolted awake at the sound of her boyfriend’s voice. She looked over and saw him sitting upright in bed, breathing heavily and gripping onto the covers for dear life.

“Branch,” she said as she rushed to his side and took one of his hands in both of hers, “Branch, it’s okay.”

Branch’s eyes were as wide as saucers and glistening with tears. He had his gaze focused straight ahead of him and on nothing in particular. “S-Sunny,” he sobbed, “She was…I tried to…but I was too…”

“It was just a bad dream, Branch,” Poppy assured him, “Sunny’s fine.”

Branch still refused to look at her as he shook his head. They didn’t know that for sure. That dream could have been a sign that Sunshine was in danger, and he had to be there to stop it. He was tired of thinking about her being out there without them.

Lost…

Hungry…

Alone…

Back where she started.

Without a word, he leapt out of bed and raced out of the inn, ignoring Poppy’s pleas to wait for her and her reminder to grab his things. He paid no attention to the confused and concerned glances he got from every troll he passed, nor did he respond when one asked him what his “hurry” was. His mind was laser-focused on boarding the balloon and continuing their search.

He was going to find Sunshine. And he was going to save her this time.

…

Her namesake was beating down on her.

She was sweating and breathing heavily.

Every cell in her body was telling her to collapse to her hands and knees and scream for help.

Yet still she refused to give up.

Sunshine took another long sip from her water canteen. It was a good thing that she had found a pond to refill it in before she set off again; it felt like she had been trudging through the desert for an eternity.

She had set back off on her journey the moment the sun began to rise, and she hadn’t seen another troll since. She knew that she’d find civilization eventually. That, along with the possibility of finding her family, was the only thing keeping her going.

She pulled her scrapbook out of her bag and flipped to one of the first few pages. On it was a picture she had made when she was little, right after Poppy had taught her scrapbooking; two trolls, labeled “MAMA” and “DADDY,” holding hands with a little troll who shared Mama’s yellow skin and Daddy’s red hair, labeled “ME.” At the bottom of the page, she had written, “MY FAMILY.” She wondered how accurate the picture would really be. Was she right on the money, or did she take after one parent more than the other? That didn’t matter to her. What mattered was that she’d find them soon.

Her view of the scrapbook was suddenly obscured by a shadow looming overhead. Stuffing the book back into her bag, she continued on, puffing her hair out into an umbrella shape. Wait a minute, she thought, since when does it rain in the desert? She wasn’t scared, just confused.

Until she heard their voices.

“There she is! I see her!”

No.

“Oh my gosh, that is her!”

No no no no no!

…

Branch was leaning on the edge of the balloon, resting his chin on his hand. He was half-asleep and half-listening to Poppy as she kept pointing out everything she saw that even remotely resembled a living creature (“puffalo, adorabull, puffalo riding an adorabull,” etc). If it weren’t so important, he would’ve ripped the binoculars out of her hands and thrown them out of the balloon.

“Don’t say it out loud unless it looks like a troll,” he told her, fighting to stay awake. He had barely slept a wink the night before, what sleep he had managed to get being plagued by nightmares about losing Sunshine.

He was pulled out of his stupor by his girlfriend’s frantic shouting. “There she is,” she yelled, pointing down at where she was looking, “I see her!”

The exhaustion in his eyes was soon replaced with hope as he ran to the other side of the balloon. “I’m positive that’s her, Branch,” Poppy confirmed as he took the binoculars from her. Sure enough, he could see Sunny’s hairpin glinting in the daylight. For the most part, she appeared to be no worse for wear, thank goodness. She had stopped in her tracks when they appeared overhead. “Sunny, up here,” he shouted, waving to her excitedly, “it’s us!”

“We’re so glad we finally found you, sweetheart,” Poppy added.

Despite their shouts, Sunshine did not turn around. She clearly knew they were there, but she didn’t react right away. When she did, it wasn’t how they thought she was going to. She shook her head for a few seconds, leapt back to her feet, and ran in the opposite direction.

Branch and Poppy gasped as the balloon followed. They had been so excited to find the little girl, but she was fleeing from them like they were bergens at Trollstice.

“Hey, where are you going,” Poppy called after her. “Sunny, come back,” Branch yelled.

“I can’t go back with you,” they heard Sunshine faintly yell back, “You can’t make me!”

Branch watched her in confusion as he wracked his brain for what to do. They had come so close to getting her back; what had she been through that made her act so belligerent towards them?

“Bring it down just a little more, Poppy,” he ordered. He hated the idea that had come to him, but Sunshine wasn’t really giving him much of a choice. “I’m sorry, Sunshine,” he muttered once he’d gotten close enough to her.

Reaching out with both hands, he grabbed her by the hair. “Gotcha,” he shouted triumphantly, ignoring her screams of protest. He ignored the fact that she was thrashing angrily in his grasp. He ignored the pain when her arms and feet came into contact with his body. He just focused on holding her as tightly as he could, stroking her back and singing her favorite lullaby.

Within seconds, all of the fight had left Sunshine’s body. She melted into Branch’s embrace as she began to cry, resigning herself to the fact that her adventure was over.

“Shh, it’s okay, Sunny,” Poppy said, joining in on their hug, “we’re here now.”

“I hope you don’t think we’re upset with you,” Branch added, kissing her on the forehead, “because we’re not. We were just so worried about you.”

“I wasn’t ready,” Sunshine replied, sniffling, “I wasn’t ready for you to find me.”

Poppy and Branch looked at her with deep concern. Did she really not expect them to look for her? “Sunny—” Branch began, before quickly being interrupted by the trolling.

“Don’t,” she interjected, avoiding eye contact with either of them. “I know what you’re going to say. I’m not going to let you stop me from finding my family!”

The two adult trolls were taken aback at her outburst. Part of Sunshine regretted raising her voice, but her determination had yet to waiver. She slumped to the ground and began to cry once again, believing that she was in the most trouble she’d ever been in.

“Sunny,” Branch said softly, placing his hand under her chin and moving her to meet his gaze, “Look at me, sweetie. We would never try to stop you. We know how hair-bent you’ve always been on finding your mom.”

“We just wish you had told us you were planning this,” Poppy added, placing a hand on Sunny’s shoulder, “that way we could have come with you.”

Sunshine looked away from her caretakers as a guilty blush formed on her cheeks. She may have thought she knew what she was looking for deep down, but she didn’t really have a concise idea; she still didn’t even know what her parents looked like, let alone where they could be. In addition, she had no idea of any potential dangers that the journey could have flung her way. She should have known that they would be worried about her.

After a few more minutes of hugging and reassuring her that she had no reason to be sorry, the three trolls discussed the next step in their mission. They started by eliminating the places they had already searched; Branch almost had a fit when Sunshine said she had gone to Volcano Rock City by herself, the only thing keeping him calm was being told that Barb stayed with her the entire time. Looking back at the map, they noticed that they were not too far from Lonesome Flats. In fact, Poppy looked out over the edge of the balloon and found that they were directly above it.

Delta Dawn was waiting for them when they landed right outside of their town. “It’s really great to see ya, Poppy,” she said excitedly, “word’s been spreadin’ like wildfire about your little adventure.”

“Really,” Poppy asked, surprised, “then maybe you can help us.”

“Way ahead of ya,” the Country mayor stated proudly, “I’ve already told all the pop trolls that live here to meet in the center of town ASAP.” As Delta began to tell the pop queen about all of the other Pop trolls that lived in their realm, pointing the ones in the crowd in front of them out by name, she stopped dead in her tracks when she saw Sunshine step out of the balloon. Some of the other trolls gasped and started muttering to each other.

Slowly, Delta approached her, eliciting a sheepish giggle and a wave from the child. “Uh, hello, Ms. Delta,” greeted Sunshine. She had met the leaders of the other tribes when she was a baby, but hadn’t really seen them much since. “I haven’t seen you since you were itty-bitty,” she said, brushing a lock of hair out of Sunshine’s face.

“If only I’d known you’d be the spittin’ image of your mama.”

John Dory

We all know this man is a bit self-centered, and that doesn't stop at your relationship.

He'll find any opportunity to show off for you— anything from singing, to dancing, to just his ‘incredible leadership skills that make him the perfect boyfriend!’

He also definitely introduced himself as a member of the old boy band BroZone, which you may or may not have heard of, which may or may not have left him flabbergasted.

Despite all his faults though, John Dory will do his best to be a good partner for you. It's what you deserve, after all!

Keeping you safe from wild creatures, making sure you're always happy because he loves your smile, and also being the overprotective boyfriend who'll square off against anyone who even dares to make you uncomfortable even if they're 10x his size.

Small detail, but he also loves the fact that Rhonda took a liking to you instantly.

“She knows how to pick the good ones,” he'd say with a wink.

Talks about his brothers CONSTANTLY, but always in a way that makes it seem like he doesn't care and that it's their fault the band broke up in the first place. He obviously really cares about them, though.

Some nights, he'll reflect and regret all the stuff he said and did to them, and wishes he could go back and make it right. You reassure him through most of it, trying to convince him that he was young and just didn't know any better.

He stares at you in awe and disbelief because how could ANYONE think that what he did was justifiable? Abandoning his younger siblings all because of his stupid ego and personal insecurities.

“I really don't deserve you...”

Give him some time he's just emotionally constipated.

Also you BET he's gonna show you off to his brothers once they're reunited, so just let him. He just wants the most important people in his life to meet.

You can also expect them to try and embarrass John Dory with stories from their childhood, so be ready to have a good laugh as your boyfriend plots for murder in the background.

Spruce/Bruce

Probably the one who's best equipped to be in a relationship out of everyone in the group.

He is a family man, after all.

Speaking of which, if you think him settling down in the movie and having kids of his own was cute, it really is! But that just indicates that he has a way with children.

If you have a child or younger sibling, expect them to get dotted and taken care of to DEATH by this man.

He may not have been the sensitive one of the group, but was definitely the most reliable of the eldest, so he's got experience handling little trouble makers that come his way.

He still opens a cantina in Vacay Island, which is where you two met for the first time, and so you help run it occasionally whenever you have the chance. And even though you don't go there 24/7, all the regulars just think that you're the co-owner since you're dating Bruce.

You're the one who finds out that he's actually ‘Spruce’, the member of old boy band BroZone. You just happened to stumble upon an old record he kept in his room, and after confronting him about it, he reluctantly confirms your suspicions.

It was hard to recognize him since he was much older now and his body had definitely... grown over the years.

Bruce doesn't like preaching about those days, since he's quite embarrassed of the ‘immature ladies man’ he used to be back then.

But he won't deprive you of them either, since he'll happily share any stories on his misadventures with his brothers, funny backstage incidents, etc.

He misses them dearly and wishes they're all doing okay.

Two words: Hopeless. Romantic.

He's ‘The Heart Throb’ for a reason.

Roses, chocolates, dances— he can do it all!

Bruce will always make time in his busy schedule to spend time with you, taking you on dates to your favorite spots around the island, getting you meaningful gifts, and just overall expressing his love for you in any way he can.

He loves singing to you because it always serenades you and it puts a smile on his face.

People always joke that he's going to propose to you out of the blue one of these days, which always leaves him a flustered mess, but he never denies either.

“What can I say? I might be waiting for the perfect opportunity...”

Clay

Poor baby doesn't know what he's doing but he's trying, okay?

The two of you meet in the abandoned Bergen Golf Course, where you and Viva welcome him with open arms, and everything pretty much plays as in the movie, except that he really likes spending time with you and ONLY you, which he doesn't quite understand?

You're the one to ask him out cause otherwise you'd be playing this back and forth forever. He says yes.

He's never had a partner before, so he's justifiably worried that he'll mess up in some way, or that you'll end up finding him too boring after a while.

This becomes much more apparent after a particular bad night, in which after mumbling incoherently because of a nightmare, you find out that he has brothers and used to be in a boy band.

He doesn't open up about it at first, so you give him some space and reassure him that you'll be there when he needs you. Just give him some time and he'll tell you eventually.

He talks about how he could never be himself, since he was always expected to be ‘The Fun One’, and now he's basically tried to become the complete opposite in hopes of gaining some control over his life.

But he also worries that others will think he's too dull, and that he just isn't interesting enough to be around. Especially you.

You immediately take his face in your hands and look him in the eyes.

“I fell in love with Clay. Not ‘The Fun Troll from BroZone’ Clay. Also, you're fun in your own way!”

He basically falls for you all over again after hearing this.

After that, he becomes slightly less uptight and allows himself to enjoy the little things. You sometimes actually catch him dancing when he thinks no one's looking and you find it's the most adorable thing in the world, even after he realizes he's not alone and wants the earth to swallow him whole.

“Don't mind me, I'mma just crawl in a hole for a while...”

“No, no- Babe, it was amazing! I loved it! Pleaseeee show me more!”

Overall, he's a pretty good boyfriend all things considered.

He's incredibly overprotective of you, and will always give you advice and tools he thinks will be helpful if you're thinking of venturing outside of the Golf Course.

He asks Viva for dating advice CONSTANTLY and she DOES NOT let him live it down. Of course she has good ideas, though.

He'll pretty much do anything for you, even if it means going out of his comfort zone.

Floyd

Another great candidate for being in a good relationship.

Need I explain myself with this man?

His entire personality revolves around being caring and understanding, so he's definitely always on the lookout for anything that makes you sad or uncomfortable and will fix it ASAP.

Floyd is the kind of person who will ask for consent with pretty much anything you do— from holding your hand, to kissing you, to giving you a hug; he will ALWAYS make sure that you're okay with it even if you've given him the green light in the past.

He's not huge on PDA due to his somewhat shy nature, but if you are, he'll try his best to keep up with you.

This doesn't mean he dislikes physical affection, in fact it's his love language. He'll go out of his way to try and sneak in as many hugs as possible throughout the day and maybe a kiss or two if you'll allow it, which of course you do.

You also try your best to get involved in his own interests, because that's only fair after everything he does for you.

It isn't until one day that he sings for you that you compliment him and he nonchalantly comments that he used to be in a band when he was a teenager.

Cue the reveal of him having four brothers and you begging him to tell you all about them.

Which he does, but you can't help but notice the melancholic expression on his face, so you immediately stop him and apologize for being pushy on the matter and that he doesn't have to share anything he doesn't want to talk about.

He only looks at you with a small smile and shakes his head.

So he'll go on and on about them, one by one, and go into excruciating detail about what kind of person they are and what he loves about them. He's especially fond of his little brother Branch, based on everything he tells you.

When he gets kidnapped by Velvet and Veneer, you immediately go to Branch for help.

Once you're reunited, you two basically run to each other and hug with tears streaming down your eyes.

“Did they hurt you?!”

“No, I'm okay! Did they hurt you?!”

“Who cares?”

“I do!”

Floyd is then incredibly happy to introduce you to his brothers, who begin to affectionately tease him about getting himself a partner and you happily step in to protect him from any unwanted bullying.

You also tell him that you like the new hairdo, which only causes him to giggle and kiss your forehead affectionately.

Honestly you guys probably have the healthiest relationship out of the whole group.

Branch

I was really debating whether to include him or not since there's many Branch Reader Inserts out there, but I don't wanna leave my baby out so here we are!

You have a classic childhood friends to lovers situation with him, since you've known him ever since he was a member of BroZone, only being about a year older than him.

You'd help him practice for his concerts and would always give him pep talks whenever he felt worried that he'd ruin the show.

You're basically his number one fan— never missing a concert even if it meant dragging your parents with you so they'd let you get in.

The moment the group disbands and Branch is left all alone, you're there for him and wait alongside him for his brothers to return, reassuring him that ‘siblings would never break a promise’.

Cue his whole childhood trauma and him losing his colors, but it's only because of you that he doesn't completely isolate himself from society. He still builds his bunker though, since he's pretty much scarred for life thanks to the Bergens.

Just like with Clay, you're the one who takes initiative and asks him out, and he's just left gaping like a fish because why would you want someone like HIM?

After reuniting with John Dory, he's also dotting you about how big you've gotten and treats you like a baby, which actually irks Branch much more than it does to him.

He makes sure to remind his brothers that you both are grown adults, thank you very much.

Once the band gets back together, you kinda become a manager of some kind and help them in organizing their performances. Branch is eternally grateful and thanks you for staying by his side all these years.
