You were having a hard time keeping up with the news where Annie and Ben were concerned. Every other channel had something containing Starlight or Soldier Boy. You were just trying to stay off the radar. You would text Kimiko or Frenchie when they checked in with you but besides that you hadn't had much contact with any of the boys. Well Butcher had called quite a few times but you always managed to dodge his calls.

You'd been hotel hopping, paying in cash and staying anywhere you could for the simple fact Homelander knew you ran with the boys if he got it into his head that you could be used against any of them? You walked up the stairs slowly, praying that maybe anyone else would be there also. You would kill to see MM or Frenchie hell even Hughie who you knew would never do anything besides listen to Butcher. You stopped just outside the door and took a deep breath before pushing it open. There was two lamps on so the room was mainly in shadows, Butcher was sitting on the leather couch in front of one of the tall windows working on a bottle of bourbon.

No one else was in the room and you felt your stomach knot. He glanced up at you and half smiled "Hello Luv. I'm guessing you're here for what Maeve dropped off?" You nodded, walking past the empty desks to come to stand in front of him "You, Annie and Ben are making headlines. You reached for his glass which he let you take, quickly downing the rest of the bourbon. "I read a few books, he watched a few movies. He took a step towards you and you forced your feet to remain in place. You weren't in any actual danger from Billy, you knew that for a fact. He was standing over you, your faces mere inches from each other as he asked "Why was there scorch marks on the bed?"

You knew your features were schooled but your mind raced. Damn Ben had promised he'd make a believable lie. "Don't know, must have had a nightmare" he nodded "That's what he said too" you shrugged "See? So what's your issue here Billy? You work you way down to the groups and stare up at them, almost in awe of your work. Excalibur is stabbing at the field, but making no progress. The group is kicking, shooting, and stabbing the field trying to get out.

“Calm down! I just wa-“ You feel a nude body grab you and slam you to the ground, bashing your head. You groan, looking up you see you’ve released both force fields, they all began to stand, ready to attack. “Shit…”, you put your arms over your head and form a small dome around yourself. There is a relentless assault on it from outside. You wipe blood from your head and take in a deep breath. Focus. You slowly begin to stand, increasing the force field’s size as you do. It pushes back the onslaught, allowing you to scan your surroundings. You see your previous attacker, the tall guy from before. He’s putting his shirt on over his head and hurriedly trying to button his pants. So he can teleport himself, but not his clothes..? You shake away the curiosity and prepare to force everyone off so you can capture them again. With a quick motion upwards you expand the force field rapidly, throwing everyone into the walls. You push your arms out, pinning everyone else to the wall as you make your way towards the teleporter.

Before you can reach them a strong burst of light slams into your chest, sending you flying back into a dumpster. You land on your side and look up. Starlight lands and hurries to the teleporter. Is she… comforting him? You blink, hard. THAT FUCKING BITCH. As you begin go rise, Maeve appears, looking around frantically.

“What happened here?” She asks Butcher.

“Oh fuck no, is this a fuckin’ sting operation? You’re not getting me fucking arrested!” Excalibur begins to form his arms into two giant blades.

Maeve, Starlight, and a short, black-haired girl all take a fighting stance. He unleashes a flurry of attacks, Maeve blocks every hit and you notice Starlight starting to glow. You also notice that you are fucking sore. Still, you make your way towards the group, preparing your force fields into small circular disks. Just as you’re about to throw your first disc — you’re slammed to the ground. The black-haired girl grabs a fist full of your hair and raises you up. You push a hand against her face and copy her power. With the element of surprise on your side, you manage to launch her towards her group.

“KIMIKO!” you hear the frenchman cry out. He begins firing his gun at you, the bullets hitting you barely sting. You start your way towards him before you’re pinned to a wall, you go to shove your attacker off you — it’s Maeve.

Your eyes widen, “Maeve…” you say in disbelief. Her metal bracer pressed firm against your neck, slowly cutting off air. “Maeve, it’s me!” You grab onto her arm, you know you could force her off, but your body feels like jelly. She stares through you, you reach for her hand and squeeze. Suddenly she release her grip and you collapse on the ground. You stare up at her, unintentionally recreating the moment you had the other night. You notice a blade start to come down above her, you shove her out of the way. The blade pierces through your midsection, pinning you to the wall. Maeve staggers, staring down at your limp body. Starlight blasts Excalibur back and you awake. You snap his bladed arm off from his body and throw it to the ground. He screams in agony, pulling back what’s left of his arm. You use the wall to help you up, still clutching your torso — which thankfully has started to heal itself. You try to move towards Excalibur but stumble to the ground, writhing on your hands and knees you attempt to stand again. Maeve moves toward you.

“Oi’ Maeve! Leave the bird to die, we’ve got bigger problems.” Butcher chides, his eyes glowing red. He laser beams Excalibur’s other arm off, leaving him with two bleeding stumps where the gigantic blades used to be. The teleporter, who you’ve now discerned is ‘Hughie’, runs past you towards Starlight and Excalibur. You grab his arm as he does, fully pulling yourself up and copying his powers all in one move. I am getting the fuck out of here.

You cough up a lot of blood, but the gaping wound in your center was closed. Thank you rapid healing. You steady yourself and focus on your room, trying to teleport back. You glare at Maeve, wary of her next action. She stands there, eyes wide as she stares back, you notice her hands are shaking.

“MAEVE! LOOK OUT!” Starlight yells. Out of the corner of your eye you notice Excalibur has formed blades out of his tongue, and all 10 toes. Gross. They are flying towards Maeve, you close your eyes and lunge towards her. Thinking you’re attacking, she lunges back. When you open your eyes, you’re lying in your bed. You want to let out a sigh of relief but can’t. Maeve is on top of you, knees on either side of your stomach, her hand is wrapped around your throat.

She releases you instantly, you gasp for air, still clinging onto her arm. It has taken you this long to realize you are both fully naked. Your face is on fire, you can feel how red you are. You let out a small whimper. Holy shit.

In the warm bedroom light, you finally see how bruised and beaten you both are. Your teleportation saved you both from the brunt of Excalibur’s attack, but you still suffered wounds. She has a slash on her cheek, which dripped onto your bare collarbone. You’re too focused on her to feel any pain from your numerous wounds. Your vision darts down, she’s straddling your torso, strong legs on either side, and her — your eyes dart up to her chest, then back to her face. She finally notices the lack of clothing, or atleast finally decides to acknowledge it.

“Fuck..” She breathes, staring down at your breasts, her vision lingers there for a while before darting back up to you.

You lift yourself up and pull her into a desperate kiss. You squeeze your eyes shut and let out a breathy whimper as she kisses you back. Her lips are soft, softer than you expected. “I thought you died.” Maeve pulls you closer to her, your face rests near her neck. She brings her hand back to the scar, dried blood covers your stomach down. “You looked dead.” You hear the shakiness in her voice.

You nuzzle into her, “Nah, I’ll never die.” You rest your hand on her cheek, “Sorry I wasn’t faster.” She lets out a small laugh, more-so blows air out of her nose.

“What’re you gonna do?” she asks warily, “Now that you know.” You reach down and grab her hand, pulling it to your lips.

“I’m going to trust you.” You kiss her hand, “I don’t know what your plans are, but I’ll make sure Homelander is none the wiser.” You sigh, “Call Starlight, I’ll grab you some clothes.” As you stand she grabs your wrist and stares up at you.

“Thank you.” she says and gives you a soft smile.

You dig through your closet for some oversized t-shirts. Maeve comes up behind you and wraps her arms around your waist, her breasts are pressed against your back. Your face blasts red again, Maeve notices this in the closet mirror, she presses a few kisses against your neck, “Don’t you think you should shower first? No offense, but you’re filthy.” she suggests, picking a piece of gravel out of your hair.

You bite your bottom lip to fight your embarrassment, “I uh.. kind of broke that thing.” You turn and look up at her, she lets out a soft chuckle.

okay so i did say I was gonna be annoying here's my first little analysis of the trailer for the boys. this shit is messy but its 8 am over here and i just need to ramble... spoiler talk here...

i'm a little concerned about Ryan being so down to kill people this early on in his life, like he's straight up just killing or trying to kill a man in front of a small crowd that got a bunch of phones out, he's also with who i assume its Zoe Neuman and at first I thought it was butcher who was getting thrown againts a building bcuz the guys's colour scheme matched but frankly i don't know.

lowkey feel like the whole arc between Starlight and Homelander will be about him trying to prove to Starlight that she's in the wrong side of history, he just looks so fucking smug when the riot takes place and both his and starlight stans are beating each other up-- frankly both scenes do not seem to be in the same spot... but there's just something in his face that screams "I told you so" to me. its also really interesting how nobody sees him in the middle of the carnage like nobody its stopping their shit when he shows up compare to Gen V where the whole school froze.

“Explain, what Maeve? You broke his heart, how dare you” Homelander said.

He keeps adding fire to the conversation and you believe him.

“I quit the team!” You yelled.

You started to walk away then Maeve grabbed your arm.

“Wait-” Maeve said.

“Let me go now!” You yelled.

She lets go of your arm, and before you leave you punch the wall extremely hard. Now, there is a huge hole in the wall and one of your abilities is super strength. You are still feeling angry and Maeve feels bad about what she did.

“Why did you tell him?!” Maeve yelled.

“He should have the right to know. Y/n is a nice guy and yeah he gets on my nerves but he should know” Homelander smiled.

“You are the worst!” Maeve said.

“I didn't cheat on him. Because of you, he left the team” Homelander said.

Maeve walked away and she was feeling terrible. You didn't know what to do at first, but you went to the woods alone. You went deep into the woods, and you started to punch a tree. Having super strength, you don't feel pain when you punch something hard.

You are letting out your frustration and you keep punching the tree. Your cell phone started to ring and it's Maeve. You don't answer her but there is a big rock next to you, and you kick the rock and it breaks into pieces. You are breathing hard and you break your phone by squeezing too hard.

When you first joined the team, that's where you met Maeve. At first, you and Maeve didn't work well because you would show off while saving people. But slowly, you and Maeve got to know each other and started to mess around then you and Maeve became serious. She told you about her history of dating Homelander. You never opened up to someone until you started dating her, and you thought she was the one.

Maeve is alone in her apartment. She tried calling and sending texts, but it didn't go through. She starts to think about what to do for your forgiveness. She hopes you will give her another chance. She has a picture of you two together saved in her phone, she stares at the picture and starts to cry.

You still save people around the city, you don't help your old team. But it's hard to avoid Maeve because she is everywhere even on TV. You still haven't spoken to her since the breakup and she hasn't stopped trying to talk to you.

Today, you went to stop a money heist and the bad guys got away with a van. Also, Maeve arrived and you are not happy to see her.

“You don't have a choice to work together and stop them,” Maeve said.

You don't say anything and you go after the van. She starts to follow and you start to help citizens move out of the way. But Maeve stopped the van with her body then you ripped the doors open. You pull out the bad guys and throw them against the cars. The cops arrived and started to arrest them

“Y/n, wait. Please can we talk, please” Maeve pleads.

“Why should we talk?” You said.

“I’m sorry that I hurt you and I broke your trust. I will do anything to win back your trust, whatever it is I will do it” Maeve said.

“You hurt me and I had to find out from Homelander! You know I hate that guy but you didn't even try to tell me” You said.

You walk away and she goes after you.

“Please, Y/n. I don't want Billy or anyone else, you mean so much to me. You're the only man I want” Maeve said.

You walk away and you go home. She held back her tears and she left the crime scene.

You are home eating dinner and watching a movie. You hear a knock at the door and you go to open it. You notice that your ex-girlfriend is drunk and you let her inside your apartment.

“Y/n, I'm happy to see you,” Maeve said.

“You are drunk. You shouldn't be here, Maeve” You said.

She moved closer to you and she put her hands on your cheeks.

“I love you so fucking much, Y/n. I-I fucked and I'm sorry but I don't want to be without you. I will do-” Maeve said.

She never said those words before then you sighed. She kissed you on the lips and you moved away. You take her to the bedroom and she sits on the bed then she starts to cry.

“Why are you crying?” You asked.

“Because you hate me and you will leave me forever. I never felt like this before about anyone and I fucked it up” Maeve cried.

“Stay the night. Go to sleep because you need it, Maeve” You said.

You help her take off her shoes and she lies down. You put a blanket on her and she won't let go of your hand.

“Please don't leave,” Maeve said in a low voice.

“I will be in the living room watching a movie. Go to sleep, you need to rest” You said.

“Okay,” Maeve said.

She lets go of your hand and you leave the room. She closed her eyes and went to sleep, you continued to watch the movie while eating.

The next day… Maeve wakes up with a bad headache. She looks around and recognizes it's your bedroom, but she doesn't remember how she got there. She gets out of bed and heads to the kitchen and you are making breakfast.

“How did I get here?” Maeve asked.

“I don't know. You just showed up drunk and crying and told me how you felt. I let you sleep in my room while I slept on the couch. There is coffee and food, you need it” You said.

“Oh, I'm sorry I didn't mean to come here unexpectedly,” Maeve said.

“We can be friends but I can't trust you right now,” You said.

“I don't want to pressure you into forgiving me when you are not ready,” Maeve said.

“Okay,” You said.

You and Maeve are taking it slow just being friends. You haven't joined the team again and Maeve left the team also. While fighting bad guys, she saw you get stabbed with a metal pole through the stomach. She ran towards you and you are bleeding out fast.

“Pull it out! I need to heal before I bleed to death” You said.

“Hold still!” Maeve said.

She pulls out the metal pole and you start to scream. But your body is starting to heal, she grabbed you and rushed you to the hospital.

“You know, I have rapid healing,” You said.

“I know. But I always worry about you when you get hurt” Maeve said.

“Same,” You said.

The doctor and nurses are taking care of your wounds. She didn't leave your side and your body is still healing on the inside. She was going to say something but she kissed you on the lips, you kissed her back.

“Sorry, I just really wanted to kiss you, Y/n” Maeve said.

“It’s fine, Maeve. I can go home now” You said.

You put on your shirt.

“Yeah…” Maeve said in a low voice.

“Do you want to join me for dinner?” You asked.

“Do you mean it?” Maeve asked.

“Yes. Maybe a burger or pasta?” You said.

She smiled at you.

“I would like to join you for dinner,” Maeve said.

You and Maeve leave the hospital together. You take her to a restaurant and you want to take it slow with her.

“How about we go away together? We could start over and maybe bond over something new” Maeve said.

“I will think about it. We could take it slow” You said.

“I know. I won't give up winning back your trust” Maeve said.

After dinner, you invited her back to your apartment.

I’m the anon who asked if you read the comics, and I’m actually glad you didn’t because my next question is how do you think The Deep’s storyline is going to end on The Boys? Do you think he’ll get a happy ending? Also, separate from how you actually think it’ll end, how would you want it to end for him?

I’m almost 100% certain The Deep is dying in season 5, much as it pains me to admit. I was always pretty sure that’s how his story would end, but his “breaking bad” storyline in season 4 basically confirms it.

Eric Kripke (the showrunner) has stated in a recent Rolling Stone interview that he thinks of The Boys as “a moral universe where when you choose love, family, and mercy, good things happen to you. And when you choose vengeance and hate, that causes as much harm to you as it does to the person you’re trying to enact vengeance on.” (x)

This mindset is why I believe A-Train will ultimately survive, much like Queen Maeve got to run away with Elena instead of dying in the season 3 finale (even though she never logically should have survived Soldier Boy’s blast AND that fall). Similarly, characters who actively choose violence like Homelander, Butcher, and The Deep are almost certainly dying next season.

Of course, I would love for The Deep to survive – and so would Chace Crawford, the ultimate Deep Diver! (x) My dream ending for him is that he, Black Noir II, and Sister Sage all run away together after Homelander is eventually killed and Vought falls. However, I know that my Deepnoirsage throuple/found family fantasy is far too fanfic-y to be realistic.

If by some miracle The Deep survives until the end, I think there are a few interesting directions they could take his character.

I would love to see another fight between The Deep and Starlight where she allows him to live but blinds him with her powers. It would be a nice callback to their confrontation in season 1 when she threatens to “burn his eyes out” and it would allow The Deep to “get what he deserves” or whatever while still keeping him alive and permanently changed in a way that would be really compelling. Plus, I think Chace Crawford would be great at showing that vulnerability and showcasing some fun physical comedy as The Deep learns how to be blind.

Another option is that The Deep loses his powers somehow. I’ve seen a theory that the Supe virus could be mutated in season 5 to not kill Supes but strip them of their powers instead. I would love that for The Deep because I can only assume that losing his powers wouldn’t change his physical form, since his gills are a part of his body that grew during puberty. It would be so deliciously tragic for The Deep to be forced to keep the part of his powers that he hates (his gills) while losing the part that he treasures (talking to fish and other marine life).

It would also be cool to see The Deep, Black Noir II, and all the other dastardly Supes in Homelander’s entourage get exposed and put in prison for their crimes, instead of simply being killed. It would technically be a punishment but picturing The Deep and Black Noir II broing it up in jail, OITNB-style makes me laugh and has so much fanfic potential.

I really don’t want Rhys to be evil and in a way I don’t think he ever could be as he is SJM’s lead man to lead all men 😂

BUT in saying that, I do think there is something a bit fishy about him and how he feels about the whole Azriel and Elain situation, and it does give me Maeve (ToG) vibes with what she did to Rowan with Lyria (let’s not forget that Rhys shares some physical attributes with Maeve just like he does with Ruhn from CC) - we know that our favourite High Lord is the most powerful high lord to ever exist and that he is daemati so can alter perceptions and essentially just fuck with peoples minds just like Maeve did when she basically made Rowan believe that Lyria was his mate to only then pretty much butcher her to keep Rowan loyal and in line.

So do I think Rhys is going to turn out evil? No not really, but do I think that Rhys is interfering with Azriel and Elain by using his daemati powers to essentially make it so Lucien and Elain are ‘mates’? Potentially yeah

BUT BUT BUT

I do think that the big foreshadowing betrayal in ACOTAR is going to come from Mor, things just aren’t falling in line with her at the moment tbh. Mor is supposed to be this super truthful super powerful female but we still don’t know the full story of what happened with Mor and Eris before the ACOTAR storyline, even Eris says that no one knows the full story and even Jurian calls her a liar, so I’m thinking what if Mor can basically hinder others from telling the truth so that her perception of it is the only one present?

Also in the books it does say that the mountains shook when she was born, just like they do for the crochan witches in ToG which makes me think that Mor is a descendent of some sort to that clan. I think Mor is hiding something massive and I’m really hoping that we get to see more of this unfold in the next ACOTAR book ✨

Billy Butcher vs. Homelander

Homelander uses his public persona the whole time—smiling, chuckling, just having a good time

Definitely tacks “I’m the Homelander and I can do whatever the fuck I want” to the end of one of his verses.

Smirks when he sees Homelander do his face twitch, knowing his words can cut deep when no weapon can.

Now, she’s a small town girl, but she came PREPARED. Probably listened to some records with MM.

No not with all might because that would be spite, but the real number one American hero! Captain celebrity. A good man with bad habits vs a monster with a pr team

So I was initially confused by this matchup, as I expected something like this more with Homelander and All Might, but the more I thought about it, the more it made sense and the more I wanted to write about it.

So let's cover the two mentally first. While Captain Celebrity doesn't seem like it, he's still the Number One Hero, in the United States no less. You don't exactly fumble your way to that spot, especially in the coveted Land of Heroes, so he could have lot of experience fighting people. He's also confident and good at keeping his cool during a fight. Homelander is the exact opposite. He's sadistic, prone to outburst of violence, and is pretty stupid in his planning. He is especially insecure about someone outshining him. Homelander was trained from birth to fight, but he certainly hasn't seem to have kept any of those skills. Because Homelander is the strongest person in his setting, he hasn't needed to train or exert himself because the gap is that big. And whenever Homelander goes up against anyone of similar power, he get's thrashed pretty thoroughly. Queen Maeve, Solider Boy, and an enhanced Billy Butcher have all beat him up at one point or another.

And that's why I wanted to go over their stats second: Captain Celebrity blows Homelander out of the water in every category. It's not even funny. Captain Celebrity have beaten giant villains in a single punch, moved faster then Recipro Burst Ingeunim, lifted an entire cruise ship by himself, survived dozens of point blank blasts when he was at his weakest point. This was all pretty casual for him. Nothing Homelander has done has come close to this. Sure, this could all go away if Homelander pops the barrier, but I doubt he could put out enough damage to wear him down or pop it in one go. And yes, there is the comment about how "no man made weapon can kill Homelander", implying that even a nuke couldn't harm or kill Homelander. Which is a dubious claim. Besides the fact that is only a statement, like I mentioned before, we've seen people fight and hurt Homelander, one's well below his level. So unless these characters packing the power of a nuke in each punch, that statement doesn't exactly hold up.

The only two advantages I see Homelander having are his heat vision and his willingness to kill. While the latter could be a factor in the fight, since Pro Heroes are trained to subdue and not kill, I don't think that it would matter enough to secure a win considering how often heroes work around people trying to kill them. As for his heat vision, I could see Homelander trying to flash fry Captain Celebrity, though that would require him to land a hit. And even if he does, Captain Celebrity's barrier has amazing protection and a resistance to heat. I could see the fight start with Captain Celebrity outshining Homelander, say by saving a falling plane, and Homelander getting angry. Captain Celebrity, thinking this is some publicity stunt, goes along with it. As much as he tries, Homelander would be outclassed at every turn, getting beat up by a guy who doesn't seem to be trying. Homelander throws a tantrum, after which heat gets beat up even more. I don't even think Captain Celebrity would need to kill him, just beat him enough so he doesn't get back up. So yeah, Homelander get's styled on by Captain Celebrity of all people.

One of the things I love about this last battle scene from season 3 is all of the connections being displayed. Between Homelander and Soldier Boy. Between Butcher and Soldier Boy. Between Hughie and Annie. Even between Maeve and Soldier Boy.

Here is where Butcher tells Ben that Ryan is his wife's son. I love that they waited until after Ben proves he's willing to kill Homelander, that they reveal this information through this scene between the two characters.

And then of course we get:

And to me, this is so important. Not only is it a truly heroic exit for Maeve, not only does it bring her story full circle (because when we meet her, we see she's anything but a hero though she hates that), but we also get the one LGBTQIA+ figure aka progress taking out/removing the toxic/sexist/racist original Supe aka the old. And that's important because we saw:

"Show Our True Colors" plus multi-color stripes shown reminds me of "These Colors Don't Run" with American-color stripes. Very purposeful imagery showing Maeve to be the antithesis to Soldier Boy in every way. Even wrapping these contrasts in subtle parallels like both of them picking on Hughie. Granted, Maeve hasn't liked Hughie since she met him and Ben has his own reasons for not caring for Hughie, but it also plays into the whole Starlight connection as well. Maeve saves Starlight (and company) from Ben, while he went head to head with Starlight. Maeve even thanks Starlight for saving her later on. Contrast and connection.

Maeve represents progress for Vought (more appropriately, they use her for it thanks to Homelander outing her) and the world so it absolutely made sense for Ben to not only see her picture, to see the poster of the movie Dawn of the Seven, but also to see this gay couple walk past him.

Because in Dawn of the Seven, Maeve's character is in love with a woman and this film is then used by Vought to promote their open embracing of modern times (while also used to to give a story on what happened with Stormfront).

And you can even see this type of connection in this scene:

You have two women, one a WOC, and a Black man being the ones to hold Soldier Boy at first.

And then you have:

Maeve making the choice to protect the next generation, which is also compiled with her coming full circle in her own journey because she wasn't able to save that little girl on the plane. Here is where she's redeemed while also being the one to oust Homelander (to an extent) who is basically the modern Soldier Boy and Soldier Boy all in one. For her to have Starlight looking at her in that moment and then for her to see Butcher and then Ryan, she makes her choice.

Which is also why it's so interesting to see the contrast in her decision regarding Ryan compared to Soldier Boy's decision when his grandson reacts to him about to hurt his dad.

Out of everyone, they both share wounds on the same sides of their faces, both from Homelander and Butcher respectively, who both have heat vision. Because not only do Homelander and Butcher have their own connections and parallels as well as contrasts, but all of that stuff for the characters are present during this sequence.

And even going back to Butcher's reveal to Soldier Boy about Ryan being Homelander's and Becca's son, to me, that line of "Wait, Homelander fucked your wife? And you want to save the brat?" is very indicative of old vs modern/progress. Butcher isn't Ryan's biological dad but he's protecting him because of a promise to Becca (and it's strongly implied that he's come to care for him in his own way). Granted, Soldier Boy doesn't know the circumstances of Ryan's conception but he most likely thinks Homelander and Becca had a good old fashioned sexcapade so to him this is a big no-no and why he can't understand why Butcher wants to protect Ryan. You touching another guy's wife isn't cool but a child conceived from that, the husband wasn't expected to raise that kid.

So it all makes sense why they chose Maeve to be the one to save everyone from Soldier Boy and sacrifice herself, not only for her exit and so her story could become full circle. She also represented progress and the modern day for Vought Supes compared to the first and oldest Supe and the outdated past.

So many connections throughout this scene, this season, even when it comes to the contrasts between certain characters. Love it.

001 for Maevelander :)

* when I started shipping it if I did:

Episode 3 of season 1! They had so many good interactions. I was really intrigued by what kind of person Maeve was to be able to not only date HL, and also somehow manage to extricate herself out of a relationship with him, still be alive, and still have him clearly pining to get back together.

“See that’s what I like about you. You always tell me the truth”. And then in episode 4… the harrowing plane scene. The Boys writers say it sets up a contrast between HL and Maeve’s moralities, of course, but I thought it was also a fascinating example of someone staying silent about a serious crime because it’s their ex-partner who did it. Her evolving and increasing disgust and self-judgement as events spiral out afterwards was very interesting to watch.

I do think with each season their interactions got less satisfying 😕 But I adored morallygray!Maeve walking with the devil side by side in season 1 ❤️❤️❤️

* What makes me happy about them:

I thought Maeve was a badass female character, and I really like to think/read about how she first discovered and tapped into HL’s mental subbiness.

* What makes me sad about them:

Well, the fact that they were never really on the same page at all about the relationship is pretty sad. The scene in S3 where she tells HL that she hated him from the start makes her yet another person gaslighting him (don’t think the writers intended this scene to be tragic but it was)

* things done in fanfic that annoys me:

I have to say none of the Maevlander fics I’ve come across have annoyed me. Hypothetically, I’d be annoyed by a fic where HL was cruel and abusive to Maeve and she was meek and long-suffering.

* things I look for in fanfic:

Maeve being dominant in bed, but also Maeve being afraid of HL. The fics that pull off both of those aspects really rev me up. Also, it’s not a requirement but I’ve been delighted by the percentage of fics for this pairing that involve a pegging element— not a necessity by any means, but makes me feral.

* Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: 

Maeve can be with Elena if that makes her happy (maybe this is my own problem but I wish Elena were written as a more interesting character. I didn’t quite feel the chemistry.) I loved Maeve with Butcher, even though it came out of left field— but it would have been an interesting endgame, imo. For HL… he probably needs to end up with someone who genuinely loves him. Which might be impossible if he doesn’t get depowered. He’s going to have to be single dad parenting Ryan :/

* My happily ever after for them:

Homelander harvests her eggs and makes super babies via surrogate…. Juuuuust kiddingggg. I would have loved if Maeve never broke up with him but stayed on as the jaded, cool kid vaping in the bathroom while HL tries to reason with her and please her with romantic gestures, and never dumps her even though she’s undermining his clean cut earnest image and costing him points.

* who is the big spoon/little spoon:

I love HL being possessive of her, hovering around her, coming up behind her, trying to get into her space (Clarification: don’t condone irl, just compelling dynamic). He’s the big dumb eager spoon that her little spoon has to stave off periodically.

* what is their favorite non-sexual activity:

Apparently he liked weekend getaways to Europe with her. I think HL is into the glitz and PR of the relationship. But Maeve didn’t really enjoy any of that. I’d love to have had a glimpse into what HL references as understanding what it’s like for one another, being lonely at the top of the fame pyramid. Did they have quiet nights in where they watched movies and ate ice cream straight out of the pint container? We’ll probably never know from canon.

22. Are there certain types of writing you won’t do? (style, pov, genre, tropes, etc)

Not sure I'd rule it out on principle, but I certainly don't write a lot of fluff, and I don't think I'd want to. Don't really write any comedy/humor, either, but it's more lack of talent there.

35. What is one essential thing to remember when writing a villain? 

This is cliché af but if I'm trying to write a villain for fic where I'm trying to make a serious point, it's "they're the protagonist of their own story" and have complex emotional lives and motives for what they're doing. That said, when I write porn, I sometimes enjoy writing characters who are fully aware they are being evil sadistic bitches and simply dgaf because uhm I can relate.

39. Share a snippet from a WIP

“You need to tell your husband,” Maeve is letting the word melt on her tongue, “to back the fuck off and leave us alone.”

“You know I ain’t responsible for the cunt just because he’s decided he wants to play beauty and the fucking beast with me, right?”

Billy still has his own place, but he likes staying over at Vought Tower more than he cares to admit. Homelander is clingy and needy and willing to do just about anything if it’ll get him Butcher’s time and attention. He’d be lying if he claimed he wasn’t enjoying Homelander serving him breakfast in the morning, pouring him tea naked on his knees or making Billy feed him little morsels of French toast dipped in milk, begging to let him suck on his fingers. He is absolutely ridiculous in ways Butcher could have never foreseen, and he's enjoying it more than he should.

“Fascinating,” Maeve says. “I can’t decide which one of you is the beauty and which one is the beast.”

“I’m the beauty. Obviously.” Butcher bends over and starts kissing her, his hands searching for her bra under her shirt.

But Maeve isn't having any of his distractions this time and pushes him away. “Tell him to back the fuck off, I mean it, Butcher.”

“Know what?” Billy says. “I’ll do you one better. You can tell him yourself, and I bet you'll even get yourself an apology.”

Maeve burst our laughing, spitting her coffee half across the table. “An apology? From Homelander? What are you smoking these days?”

This time, it’s Billy’s turn to laugh. “Oh, I promise you you’ll get one. Tell you what, if you don’t, I’ll clean for you naked for a full month. How does that sound?”

Maeve grins. “Deal.”

43. Do you take a sadistic joy in whumping your characters, or are you more the "If you hurt them I would kill everyone and then myself" kind of person?

LOL I mean, what can I say. I love torturing my blorbos and making them beg (and I occasionally also love exploring the psychological aftermath of the ordeal). But I don't really enjoy gore, mutilation, or anything like that. Yes, it's gotta be unbearable for blorbo in the moment and he'd do anything to make it stop, but I want no organ damage or even a character death (I've made one character death exception in a fic, but I don't enjoy seeing my blorbos tortured if I know they're going to fucking die from it; definitely a massive instant turnoff.)

63. Something you hate to see in smut.

A couple of things. First, I guess, is basic mistakes, like, no lube of any kind during anal sex unless you're in ABO verse I guess, which I actually also kinda hate for no particular reason. Basic anatomy, too. Brings out my inner Stannis Baratheon. Then I just have a ton of super specific squicks that'll absolute ruin a fic for me. For smut I otherwise adore, I try to ignore them, but it's hard because they're instant turn-offs. I am hellafucking particular about any tickle fics I read, and it's almost impossible not to ruin one for me at least a little bit lol.

64. Something you love to see in smut.

Lots of things, light dom/sub dynamics, lots of begging and whimpering, big fan of bondage. Loss of control. Las Vegas State of Mind was super hot. Also dubcon and fucked up dynamics. Big humiliation kink. Trying to decide if I should count whump as smut because some of it sure is for me lol.
