hi hi hi! thank-you to everyone who has read, commented, left kudos, and bookmarked tethered so far (and if this is the first you're hearing of it, here's my critical role / bell's hells / imodna music au)! this beautiful, musical lil world has been knocking around in my head for a little over 6 months and i'm so excited to share it with other people 💗

so as I said on ao3, to create the Full Experience of this au the way i've been stewing in it over the past 6-odd months, i wanted to also pop chapter tie-in posts on here that give a more detailed breakdown of the music in each chapter, mainly bc I'm not someone who writes songfics rly and I don't like breaking up the flow of the fic + the suspension of disbelief with lyrics etc, so: we're gonna do it this way.

(again, if this is the first you're hearing of this au and it has piqued ur interest, would recommend giving ch 1 a read and then coming back to this post)

but okay, let's start with this first chapter ⚡🎼

i gave a bit of a generic ‘vibe’ of what everybody’s music sounds like in the end-notes, but i’m gonna elaborate a bit here + also fill in some gaps!

Liliana

in this fic, Liliana Temult gained acclaim as a teenage country star, kind of like early early Taylor Swift (vibes: TS debut, Fearless, + specifically the songs Sparks Fly, Mine, and Ours from Speak Now are songs Liliana released about her high school sweetheart turned husband (Relvin)). 

*important to note: any TS songs that are confirmed as Liliana’s are re-recording versions of these songs, as the original versions of them are how i imagine Imogen sounding if she were to cover her mom’s music, plus also draws a more distinctive line in the differences in sound between Imogen and Liliana if both of them have TS music in their discographies. if you’re super hardline abt only listening to Taylor’s rerecordings, that’s chill, but just putting it out there as my distinction between Imogen’s TS songs and Liliana’s TS songs!

as Liliana got more popular, signed to a new label (Ruidus Records, owned by Ludinus Da’Leth, and Liliana was managed by Otohan Thull), Liliana’s sound changed and she spent more time away from home, in New York and LA (vibes: AURORA by Daisy Jones and the Six, Fleetwood Mac - 60s/70s-esque pop-rock with some country tinges to it). 

Imogen

more on Imogen’s music in the fic’s present-day for the ch 2 breakdown, but for a backstory vibe: the first music Imogen releases are with songs from Kacey Musgraves’ album, Deeper Well; Imogen’s EP, called If I Let Go, has this tracklist:

Sway is fairly self explanatory, and it’s the leading single for the EP.

Lonely Millionaire is about Imogen’s desperation to not slip into the wrong side of the industry no matter how alluring it may be at times, no matter how caught up she gets in the glitz and glamour and magic of it all, she doesn’t want to forget that it’s not worth it to get lost and end up on your own (like Liliana did).

The Architect is ‘small-town grew up in a christian community and maybe has some queer religious trauma’ Imogen Temult going ✌🏼don’t know if i believe i still believe in god and i don’t know if it would make it easier or harder if i did✌🏼.

Cardinal is something Imogen had written for years and years before she ever released it, but it’s a song that’s so clearly inspired by Liliana’s later career music, and it’s very much about Liliana too, and it almost gets swapped out for a different song because Imogen’s a little terrified that putting her mother’s musical story into her own at the start of her career is as good as damning her from the beginning, but Bertrand and Laudna convince her otherwise so this song ends up closing off the EP. 

(later, when Imogen puts out the rest of her album (which includes songs I haven’t figured out yet lol), she adds Giver / Taker and Nothing To Be Scared Of also from Kacey’s new album, and both of them are written about Laudna :-). (the album is also called Nothing To Be Scared Of.) 

Laudna

Laudna also got into music as a teenager (signing to Briarwood Records under Delilah) but exactly what kind of music that was, i’m not 100% on so taking suggestions + recommendations if you have any. tethered’s present-day Laudna’s music is mostly following the sound of Lizzy McAlpine. the six feet under EP referenced in ch 1 is:

there’s more for Laudna’s music - including other songs she wrote in the time Imogen was away - but we’ll get into those as they come up in the fic 😉

The Crown Keepers

finally, for this chapter’s musical rundown: to put some context to The Crown Keepers, they are, in fact, the Full Gang. Orym, Fearne, Dorian, Dariax, and Opal make up TCK, and they started out as a folk/indie lil group who wound up being signed to Eshteross Records by Bertrand. they’re the characters i have the Most songs for bc their musical sound is my favourite kind of music, but i’ll just give you some artists to listen to + some of the key songs tied to their group’s backstory! 

vibes: Wild Rivers (both in music And in their actual Vibe as a group, go look them up, seriously) / Judah & the Lion (their song Spirit is the first song of TCK’s that blows up and they start to break into mainstream popularity) / Motherfolk / McFly / Morningsiders / Kodaline / Avalanche City (Sunset is one of the last songs they release + the very very last song they play at the end of their world tour right before they go on hiatus) / and Tiny Habits as little smaller combos of different members of the band (esp their cover of landslide). 

quick addition because I keep forgetting: the song that Imogen and Laudna sing together that Orym and Imogen text about is Call It What You Want from High School Musical the Musical the Series, and it's actually the song t hat set this whole fic off, funnily enough.

this is a type list for my most recent mafia au!!

in my AU, people are born with a type that is not hereditary. It usually presents by age 3, and it shapes the personality of the person. of course, there are exceptions to the types.

along with some types come magical abilities (or phenomenon that cannot be explained using science).

there are social stereotypes usually associated with the types (eg. a PC-T is air-headed, K-Ts are gym rats, V-Ts are evil, etc.) especially for the the V-Ts, there’s a social stigma that comes along with the type as many other Types associate them with evil. there was a villain rebellion somewhere along the years that caused people to further turn their backs on the V-Ts.

all these types kind of get affected around DP-Ts and may or may not start singing, depending on how strong their resolve is.

anyway let’s get onto actually explaining the types like i’m supposed to be doing:

V-T aka Villain Type: 

very creative!!!

insanely good talkers / very eloquent

naturally charismatic (something about them just draws people in)

A++ planning skills

but they’re also good at coming up with things on the fly if they need to

very good at convincing people

clumsy as heck though

expect them to be able to solve / accomplish very difficult tasks, but fail miserably at the simple things

quite oblivious

K-T aka Knight Type:

great fighters

awesome physiques (always very healthy!!)

great faces (many K-Ts tend to be models or celebrities because of their faces)

very courageous in different ways, depends on each individual K-T, so it could be true courage or just foolhardiness

e x t r e m e l y loyal

heart of gold

very passionate about what they do

kind of obsessive sometimes

T-T aka Townsperson Type:

the most ordinary of the Types

tries to stay out of drama as much as possible, but more often than not, they’re collateral damage

life can get kind of hard for them but they just move on

can get kind of pessimistic at times, it’s either that or savagery 

very sweet and kind people!!

extremely helpful (though they can go overboard with all the help they shower upon you from the goodness of their hearts)

kind of selfless

great singers, though they tend to be subvocals more than the main vocals (doesn’t make their voices any less melodious)

S-T aka Shaman Type:

very sharp intuition!! really strong 6th sense always trust the gut feel of an S-T

strong shaman types can actually perform small spells, but these are random since their magic energy comes in random spikes

you can tell who’s a S-T by the small magics of life, like measuring the exact amount of flour needed just by randomly pouring out some, flipping to a channel just as the ads end and the show starts up again

S-Ts are kind of aloof and tend not to be surprised at anything

RBFs are strong

they’ve each got small magic abilities given to them, like soothsaying/shapeshifting

really extra most of the time

PC-T aka Prince Charming Type:

can kind of be regarded as the perfect human being

they’re really talented and pick up things really easily (ends up with them having this large set of skills)

really polite, they’re the least likely to sass you both ways to Africa

tend to have a strong emotional attachment to things they really like

also they love their parents a lot, and will do anything for them (like i’m just saying, they love their parents and show it way more often and in crazier ways than the  other Types)

trendsetters!!

usually the ones having hipster cafes/bakeries that are really successful because of the interesting themes

short attention span though

DID-T aka Damsel in Distress Type:

unluckiest beings on the planet

they don’t go actively searching for drama, drama finds them 

usually have really dainty personalities

just can’t get a break, poor them, they’re usually really tired by the time the day ends

if you get injured a lot or bad incidents keep happening to you, you’re probably a DID-T (or collateral damage)

when they’re tired, they tend to get sulky and petulant

by the way you can never win an argument against a DID-T, they’re just about the best debators on the planet

they have the prettiest smiles 

with all the shit they get into, it’s no wonder they’re good at screaming/falsettos

C-T aka Child Type: 

is the most-well loved of all the types

cute, pure, wonderful cinnamon rolls

amazingly nice and adorable you really just want to squish them

super optimistic!! very bright and is basically the energizer bunny in human form (or a vitamin, your choice)

good as heck at manipulating others as a result (if they know how to)

mostly they don’t want to because they’re generally too nice

very hardworking and listens to advice well

affectionate!! subtle or out there, it doesn’t matter, C-Ts love skinship

they can eat a lot!! like bottomless pits for stomachs!! (kind of varies from a case to case bassis)

H-T aka Healer Type:

good at looking after people

mothering others is in their blood, but they suck at taking care of themselves

H-Ts are generally really zen and calm (it’s either this or they’re at the opposite end of the spectrum and are l o u d, but they’re still very quiet when they’re tired, upset, or have nothing to say)

good listeners and offer great advice

they have an awesome memory

okay honestly this is the most ridiculous of the types

ahh, yes, DP-Ts, rarest of the types

kind of delicate looking, but they can also be like really strong so don’t let that fool you

really spontaneous people (okay, maybe impulsive is a better word)

they have a natural ability to dance gracefully

no matter what happens, they look impeccably neat and at their best. they look good in ANYTHING (which is so unfair you wouldn’t believe-)

they can talk to animals (the world is unfair, we know)

sings well, they have awesome tone and are always on pitch

the only problem is, the DP-Ts aren’t that well received because they’re rare and different and people don’t like that

also they cause people to stop what they’re doing at any random time and break out into a dance number what do you expect

94 Days into Adventures in Cowriting, enter madness

Me: what if we just completely trolled everyone and elliot just spelled his name with one t in all your fics and two ts in all mine ahaha and then you'd have people writing subversive Elliot/Jonah and Elliott/Nick fics and the madness would never end Status of a cowriting project gone wild, as of day 94: 29 google documents, 7 ships (that we’ve either written or talked about writing, not counting the one where the cat is a catboy, or the fictional OTP that only exists in the fictional narrative within the narrative that recurs throughout all the versions of this story where said fictional narrative exists), multiple renaming sessions, in which we finally cave and rename ALL THREE of our main characters from their original incarnations, and an endless string of docs that just look like this:

EGT: I think they are such a mess it's like throwing cards up in the air lol  They land however and everybody just moves on They're just not one of those otps you're like "oooh they find each other in every incarnation" Like no they definitely do not, the conditions have to be just right for them

Me: i think also that, like, if you'd been writing them by yourself of course they'd've wound up seeming like an 'in every universe they ~ find each other ~' kind of OTP but because we were starting with these characters we loved, just like fanfiction, we each want different versions of happiness for these characters.

like the amount of huge disparity between the narrative control you exercise over a story as "the author" of "the canon" versus the utter lack of narrative control there is in just building characters and seeing where they go and why and allowing multiple interpretations of them to build out of those characterizations is really fascinating

EGT: I think it's mostly that we co-wrote So like left up to me there would have been no other possibility  And left up to you there would have been no other possibility  But because there were two writers there was an immediate fandom with conflicting interpretations

odds for Safe & Sound

1: What inspired you to write the fic this way? The first in a small series of vids on YT by Sophie. I’ve always been very open and honest about how Annie isn’t truly mine. She wasn’t my plot bunny or idea, but I have fleshed her out with permission from her original creator.

3: What’s your favorite line of narration? I haven’t been able to put it in yet, cause its way down the line (like, Annie settled in Alexandria down the line lmao) but here it is:

“I don’t want to die, but you and the kids…you’re about the only thing that makes me want to live.”

5: What part was hardest to write? Literally everything after s3. Sophie isn’t sure where she wants to take things while I have a very clear idea so I’m stuck between the rock and a hard place of wanting to move forward with my own thing even though Annie is still her baby.

7: Where did the title come from? I’m pretty damn sure if came from that TS song for the first Hunger Games film. Personally, I hate TS but I do like that song so I guess I can’t be too mad about it lmao

9: Were there any alternate versions of this fic? Nope! Not even sure what I’d do tbh

11: What do you like best about this fic? I like how I’ve been able to flesh out Annie and explore her character on deeper levels than the vids can convey. I’ve been able to incorporate some comic arcs the show neglected (and I plan to do more, like Annie teaching Carl to drive! lol), mold her from a drifter to a lover/other woman to a victim to survivor and to a mom and leader, eventually. I just really love the progression I can make with Annie

13: What music did you listen to, if any, to get in the mood for writing this story? Or if you didn’t listen to anything, what do you think readers should listen to to accompany us while reading? I try to listen to some folk and indie style music, as well as mix in some classic rock and official songs the show uses. I’m not a country fan whatsoever so I avoid listening to it like the plague but its a little hard to avoid considering the setting lol

15: What did you learn from writing this fic? That collaborations are hard work.
