there's a post going around about how katara is misunderstood by fans who claim that she "whines too much about her mother" and "unfairly friendzoned aang" and how people who say that are doing a disservice to such a great character. and obviously i agree. even though i've never actually seen anyone say those things firsthand, i'm positive that they do, and it is a gross misinterpretation of her character. i'm glad people are defending her from slander. but i also can't help but feel disappointed by that post, because in an attempt to defend her from bogus allegations, they end up actually reducing her themselves. and that makes me so sad, because katara would not actually be as special and wonderful as she is without her flaws. of course, her response to aang's affection and the way she brings up her mother are not flaws, but she does have them. they're what make her such a good character! putting her on a pedestal is just as reductive as calling her whiny or whatever.
Or you hear the infamous line, “then you didn’t love [our mother] the way I did” and you prepare yourself for one of the worst character assassinations ever only to see the scene after nearly three seasons worth of context and realize she was kinda right. She’s been the mother, the nurturer, the comforter. She’s been patient, gentle, and accommodating where everyone else has gotten to be insensible and reckless and childish, and the one moment where she allows herself to feel her grief, suddenly she’s this evil bitch and not, y’know, a 14 year old girl whose (sic) been thrusted into adulthood in a way no other character has. A 14 year old girl who should be allowed immaturity and raw emotion and anger instead of the patience and grace she’s been forced to extend to every character without even the smallest amount of gratitude or even consideration in return.
okay so the thing is... i do think katara is kinda right when she says this line. it's cruel, but it's not exactly wrong. katara has placed so much of her identity into kya's sacrifice. perhaps sokka and katara loved their mother equally, but they did not grieve her equally, they did not feel the same loss. kya's death was personal to katara in a way it was not to sokka, and in that moment, when she says that, it's upsetting, but understandable.
that said, katara gets to be insensible, reckless, and childish constantly. it's a cornerstone of her character. that doesn't mean that she isn't often reasonable, practical, sensitive, and comforting, but that's not all she is. she's a kid and she acts like it! her immaturity, raw emotion, and anger are some of her defining characteristics. we see those wonderful traits of hers as early as the pilot, and they never go away. so i'm confused by the claim that she is denied that. she just simply isn't.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
she's also not the only one who is thrust into adulthood. even if you ignore azula, since she's a villain, we literally see hakoda say to sokka multiple times that he left sokka behind to care for and protect katara and their village. and sokka takes that very seriously. he and kanna face down katara and aang in episode one chastising katara for being irresponsible enough to accidentally send a flare that locates the fire nation to their village. sokka tells katara that she put them in danger and kanna says "sokka is right." katara tells sokka that he's making a mistake, but he says, "no, i'm keeping my promise to dad. to protect you." sokka's mentality is one of protecting katara, of being responsible for her, for his village, and then aang, and later toph. he was thrust into adulthood at 13 when he was "the only man" left in the tribe. i don't understand how anyone could see that and say that katara was the only one forced to grow up too fast. she was forced to grow up too fast, and it's tragic, but she also clings to her innocence and childhood, and that's an integral aspect of her character. why would you erase that?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Katara is the most misunderstood character in the show. As much as people recognize the complexities of Zuko, Sokka, and Azula, they struggle to do the same for Katara because they see her struggles as somehow lesser, and therefore, less deserving of sympathy. They can handle her so long as she’s being endlessly patient and loving and kind, but the moment her endless love, patience, and kindness runs out, she’s suddenly this annoying bitch who can’t shut up about her mother or reciprocate Aang’s feelings. But Katara’s trauma does matter as much as anyone else’s. No, she wasn’t banished from her kingdom. No, she didn’t lose her entire community, and no, she isn’t the only one who lost her mother. But the difference between her and everyone else whose experienced loss because of the Fire Nation is that she’s never given time to process her trauma. Aang gets to lean on Katara constantly. Toph gets to express her feelings to Katara, and yeah, Sokka also lost their mother, but unlike Katara, he isn’t put in the position of being a substitute for everyone’s parent. He even admits that he sees his sister as a mother. The only characters who ever comfort Katara or allow her to vent is Zuko and her father and that’s, like, three scenes in a show where the other characters are consistently given opportunities to seek out Katara for unconditional support.
lmao i don't really think people understand the complexities of azula and sokka. zuko, yes, definitely, much ink has been spilled on zuko's strife. but if you know where to look, people write about katara as much as they write about azula and sokka, which is to say, not as much as they do zuko, but nonetheless a fair amount.
she is given time to process her trauma, though. she talks about her trauma constantly. not in a whiny way, but in the sense that her grief defines her in many ways, and since she is the main character, arguably on equal standing with aang, her trauma is explored a lot throughout the show. she certainly discusses it with more than simply zuko (who immediately goes on to betray her). she does have that beautiful scene with hakoda, but she also talks about her trauma to aang, jet, haru, hama, and of course sokka. she never talks about it directly with toph, but sokka talks about her to toph.
the idea that aang and sokka cannot empathize with her grief is actually pretty absurd. aang knows what it's like to be the chosen one, to be the last of your people and expected to carry the weight of your entire culture on your back. sokka knows what it's like to lose their parents (they lost. the same parents) and be expected to replace that parent and bear their legacy (even if with sokka he is attempting to replace hakoda while katara is attempting to replace kya). and just because zuko is the only one who bears the guilt of knowing that his mother sacrificed herself for him in the same way that kya sacrificed herself for katara, doesn't mean that aang and sokka are completely blind to her grief. they do want to help and support her. helping and supporting katara is sokka's number one priority at all times. and although katara's support is invaluable to aang, that doesn't mean that their relationship is all giving and no receiving. he also supports her. he inspires her and helps her and would do anything for her. yes he's kind of awkward when it comes to navigating his feelings for her, but he's also twelve years old. and he's not a selfish monster. katara would not love him (platonically or romantically) if he were.
the idea that sokka isn't put in the position of being a substitute for everyone's parent but katara is doesn't make sense to me either. if anything, they take on equal responsibilities. and okay. sokka does not actually say that he sees his sister as a mother, but i do understand why that is a common interpretation of his speech in "the runaway." i just don't think it really makes sense to say that considering he never actually treats her like a mother. if he does see her as a mother, then why does he always treat her like a little sister? i'm not going to repeat my take on this scene since i've already discussed it enough, so just read this post.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
^guy who sees his little sister, who is the most responsible girl in the world and never does anything reckless or irresponsible in the name of justice (no sir!), as his mom
i know i've talked about this before, but it makes me really sad when people diminish katara's character in a misguided attempt to defend her from racists/misogynists who unfairly malign her character. she should be defended, by all means, but erasing the traits that make her interesting and good, at sokka and aang's expense no less, is not the way to defend her. she is worthy of praise, but there is no need to remove entire chunks of her character and slander other characters to do so. i want more posts lauding katara for how amazing her character is, but i want those posts to be accurate. she deserves to be appreciated for her flaws as well as her virtues. she deserves to be honored properly.

zane hates irene because she never answered to his prayers whenever he needed guidance. she never answered when he used to ask how could he become a better devotee to her. she never answered when he needed someone to talk to. she never answered when he was confused about why he was even doing this. why did he need someone to believe in? she never answered when he had nightmares of her. she never when he asked if she hated him.
i think zane slowly began to come to terms with the fact that they should not depend on gods to save them. the illusion of irene the matron coming down to save them all was slowly fading and it died when he learned that she was no longer around. that she’s.. sleeping? she’s sleeping while there are people are praying to her to save them, to save their families, to save them from dying?
as a priest, he receives confessions and prayers from people who believe he has the power to talk to irene, to get her to help them. he’s recieved prayers of parents begging irene to save their dying child. from emanciated families who simply ask irene to give them a couple of gold coin. from older couples begging to help their children who are at war. from himself.. who just wanted to be loved by those he looked up to.
what is he supposed to do? how can he live in peace knowing he’s giving these people false hope? because if they don’t receive hope, if they don’t have a goddess to believe in when they feel like they cant control their destiny, who will they go to? how will they have the will to go on?
so it’s no surprise that suddenly, zane realized that irene was useless and undeserving of her title of goddess. if he were irene, if he were a god, he would help those in need.
if.. he were a god.
maybe if- maybe if he had irene’s relic he’d be a god. he would be as powerful as irene. he would help those in need. he would not sleep eternally. he would not abandon humanity.
this thought process is was really started to get zane’s thoughts going. in the beginning it was just wishful thinking. he didn’t really believe it was possible for him to become a god. only thing he did was research everything he could on relics and irene’s origins. it’s only that he realized there wasn’t information that he didn’t know about already. but no. there has to be more. there has to be some traces of irene that no one’s been able to find somewhere. maybe he’ll be the one to get it first.
from then on i think honestly it’s been zane actually losing it and becoming so obsessed with his research on irene and the idea of actually becoming a god getting closer that.. he lost his original goal in the first place.
when he first killed someone, or ordered someone to be killed, he almost couldn’t cope with it. he begged irene for forgiveness (which is ironic since he’s out to replace her), but it didn’t help. it just made the guilt worse and worse until a small voice in his head said, “does it matter? you’re going to become god to save many more lives. what’s the life of one person over the entirety of humanity.” the voice helped him rationalize his actions, albeit in a twisted manner, but… is he wrong? if he doesn’t find irene’s relic, more people will suffer. he has to do this as soon as possible or more lives will be lost and more people will lose hope.
garte also fits into this somehow. growing up, garte’s always lost any sort of pretense around zane. it’s why he’s so attached to him. his father trusts him enough to show his “ugliest” side. he must be special since garroth never got to see this. he’s never hidden the fact that he has killed many others from the smallest reasons to treason towards zane. perhaps in reality he doesn’t care or he knows that his action is keeping zane at his side but.
what im saying is- it’s not too shocking to zane about killing someone and not long after trying to rationalize it. garte showed him how its done, jf he can do it why can’t zane?
but anyway. i rlly like this a lot? i love villains who just lose their way and believe what they’re doing is just. they believe that they are the only ones who can do this because no one can. they believe they are in the right because their end goal is right! and i love it when they don’t realize how much they’ve changed from that initial goal. that what they have done.. was it really necessary? is it something they want??

Tumblr media
When your boyfriend of eight months started to act weird a few weeks after your disastrous birthday party, you had exciting and terrifying ideas about what could have been behind the sudden attitude change. Like most people with a childhood trauma and a horrible luck with friends, you were also quick to surrender to your insecurities, which made you think that your step-mother’s entitled behaviour had made Jeno realise that you weren’t worth his time: he was cheating on you, he was trying to come up with a painless way to dump you because he was just that sweet, or he was doing both. On particularly sensitive days, the mere possibility of the latter made you cry for hours to no end.
However, the night when Jeno insisted on picking you up from work to take you to his place for your semi-impromptu date night, the extravagant sight of his otherwise minimalist dining room planted a completely different thought in your mind; you could feel the anticipation in your tummy, your entire being buzzing with excitement and disbelief, because the decoration was suspiciously akin to the one you had described to him when he had asked you about your dream proposal and wedding. (To be fair, this conversation had happened months before your birthday, on a movie night you had spent watching the American movie 27 Dresses.)
You almost missed your chair when Jeno led you towards the dining table, your eyes fixed on the beautiful candle lights.
How had you gotten so lucky?
‘Did you make all these? Even the food?’ You asked in awe when the European-style cream soup was served, the smell making your mouth water even before you touched your spoon. Growing up in a well-off family meant that you had unlimited access to many foreign countries’ cuisines, but because of the same reason, your father’s wealth, you rarely had real, home-cooked food on the table. Your father’s new wife deemed such chores, activities your mother had loved so much, low-life: something maids should have done and maids alone.
Jeno’s eyes turned into tiny crescents when he nodded, his smile making your heart melt. You felt bad for ever doubting him, although you both knew it wasn’t something you could have helped. In life, money always came with a price. Subsequently, the more zeros one had on their account, the more nightmares and insecurities they had to deal with to balance out the happiness that kept poor people at bay. This was how your society had been working for centuries.
As the night went on and more delicious food got on the table, you were more and more sure that even if there hadn’t been a proposal, you would have remembered that night for the rest of your life. Your relationship with Jeno might have been relatively peaceful and the best thing that had ever happened to you, but you hadn’t been this happy in months. The absence of self-hating and relationship-doubting thoughts was freeing. You couldn’t not smile.
Until your happy grin froze onto your face then fell at the sight of the eerie collection of personal items in Jeno’s living room. Goodness. Your boyfriend didn’t make the smallest attempt at hiding the evidence. On the contrary, he put everything on display: the jewelleries, wallets, keychains and hairpins that all had a vaguely familiar feel to them. They sent an unpleasant chill down your spine.
And it got significantly worse when taking a tentative step closer to the glass display cabinet, you recognised your bitchy supervisor’s rose gold necklace with the tiny star medallions she had gotten from her fiancé. Was that your step-mother’s wedding ring two items from it? The one that had been originally your mother’s family heirloom, but then your father had decided that he would have shown you how he was a disgusting human being in more ways than one by proposing to his new chick with the jewellery.
When had been the last time you had seen either of these horrible women?
What was going on?
Except the rational part of you knew exactly what was going on. Your best friend had been going on about the Midnight Maniac ever since the serial killer had shown up at your city, targeting seemingly random people, although the connection had been right in front of you all along. You. You might have not given the same significance to every victim as you rarely paid attention to those outside of your friend group, you might have not remembered everyone’s name, but at one point in your life you had had to cross paths with them.
They had died… No, they had been killed because of you.
‘No…’ the plea fell from your lips weakly, the disbelief mixed with strong denial making you sound raspy and out of breath. You reached out to your mother’s ring and your hand was shaking from how overwhelmed you felt. This just couldn’t have been happening. There was no way in hell this was true.
‘Do you like it?’ Your shoulders rose and for the first time in your life, your body got tense when Jeno’s closeness registered in you. You tried not to show or acknowledge how anxious you felt at that moment, although your acting skills had never been too good. Despite the number of school plays your family’s money had gotten you during your academic career,  you were a below average actress. ‘At first, I thought it might be too much, but then I realised you might need some sort of reassurance that they can’t hurt you anymore,’ your boyfriend explained, confusing you with the lack of empathy or guilt in his alluring, deep voice you loved so much.
Your teeth sank into your lower lip to suppress the scream that almost escaped your mouth. You didn’t dare to look down at Jeno’s fingers that slowly slipped between yours.
‘Because they can’t. They will never ever mistreat you again,’ Jeno squeezed your hand, the familiar warmth from before back in his voice and evident on his face. He looked at you like he always did when you were telling him about your achievements at work and the dreams you nurtured in your heart. He looked at you the way he did when he was so damn proud, he would have stolen the stars for you just to show you your worth.
He looked at you like you were his entire world and he would have done absolutely anything for you. Anything, whether you asked for it or not.
‘Tell me you didn’t,’ you pleaded, your voice barely above a whisper. You didn’t take your eyes off your mother’s ring. As much as you hated to see the hand-crafted jewellery on your  step-mother’s finger, the thought of her dead body in a dirty alley, strangled to death creeped you the hell out. ‘Please, tell me you did not—’
‘Of course, I did. Did you expect me to watch them walk over you?’ Jeno asked with what sounded like genuine disbelief in his voice. As you allowed yourself a glance at his reflection through the glass display, you were taken aback by his furrowed eyebrows and the wrinkles on his forehead. He was seriously confused.
Until he wasn’t.
He squeezed your hand again; his thumb was drawing soothing circles on the sensitive skin of your wrist.
‘It’s okay, it’s because you’re not used to people treating you like you deserve,’ he reassured you, an action so familiar, nice and comforting that for a second you felt like you had an out of body experience. You felt like you were both living your own and invading someone else’s life because there was no way your sweet boyfriend had killed close to a dozen people who had dared to treat you badly at one point in their lives.
Your inability to stand up for yourself and detach yourself from a toxic environment couldn’t have been the reason for eleven people’s early death. It just couldn’t. Your conflict-avoidant personality couldn’t have turned your soft-hearted boyfriend into a serial killer.
It wasn’t true. If this was supposed to be a joke, a prank, it wasn’t funny.
‘Stop, please, just stop. It’s not right, Jeno, do you hear yourself? You’re saying you are a murderer,’ you begged while you simultaneously tried to take your hand out of his with little to no success. His hold on you was too strong.
Your eyes were brimming with tears because of how fiercely he was holding onto you. It was painful both physically and mentally until he pulled you close and pushed your face into the crook of his neck. Your boyfriend was petting your head while his tee soaked up your tears. You were scared, confused and miserable.
‘Everything I’ve done…’ he mumbled against the crown of your head. ‘Every horrible atrocity, it’s been for you. Please, don’t ever degrade my feelings for you, love,’ he asked, although by the way he hugged your smaller frame, his palm pushing your body against his chest, it felt more like a threat. It was as clear as day that he didn’t like being called a murderer.
‘Please,’ you asked, barely managing to get enough oxygen into your lungs. He was hugging you so tight. So damn tight. Like you could have disappeared the moment he let you go.
You couldn’t have said his fear was baseless. A brave person would have already made a run for it. A strong person might have already successfully escaped. However, you were neither brave nor strong. Your skills were barely suppressing average on your brightest days and your mental strength was crumbling without Jeno being your stable point.
‘Shh, you’re safe now. No one will ever hurt you, I won’t let them, I promise.’ Jeno kept stroking your hair and pressing soft kisses against the crown of your head as if his actions hadn’t been the sole reason for your distress. As if you had just woken up from one of your nightmares and you needed his arms around you to ground you. ‘I love you so much, baby.’
His embrace and closeness didn’t bring you comfort this time.
The silence stretched uncomfortably long.
‘Say that you love me, baby,’ Jeno asked you, his fingertips digging into your back. Face buried in the juncture between his shoulder and neck, your brain was mushy and your breathing uneven as you tried to comprehend his words.
Your unresponsiveness didn’t make Jeno happy. It made him angry. Or was he desperate? He sounded a little bit both when he said:
‘Come on, baby. Say it. Say that you love me, say it back.’
You couldn’t say it. Not necessarily because your love for him vanished from one moment to another, but because you were physically incapable of forming coherent sentences. You were drained due to the part of you that was still in denial, scared that Jeno would kill more people out of some twisted kind of protectiveness and terrified that people who shouldn’t have would figure it out that he was the person behind the name Midnight Maniac. You knew someone this sick and dangerous should have been behind bars from where he couldn’t have hurt more people, but the thought of losing Jeno also wore you down.
You didn’t want to lose him. You didn’t want this to be your reality.
Jeno put his hands on your shoulders and pushed you away from his chest a little: just enough to be able to look you in the eyes.
‘Say it, love! Say. It. Say that you love me.’
You couldn’t. You couldn’t say it back. And your silence made your boyfriend lose his mind for a split second. He started to shake you, squeeze you, dig his nails into your flesh until you were flinching away from the pain.
‘I… I…’ At that point, you were close to hyperventilating. You wanted to wake up from this horrible dream and find solace in your boyfriend’s arms like you always did. You wanted the Jeno you knew, the Jeno you had fallen in love with, the Jeno you loved. Cheeks red and lips slightly parted, you were panting as you said: ‘I love you.’
Because you did. You loved Jeno, you just didn’t like how he was acting. Like a madman. A maniac.
The smile that adorned your boyfriend’s features upon hearing your confession was genuine; his beautiful, chocolate brown eyes disappeared as his happiness became more evident. You shuddered when Jeno brushed a mop of hair behind your ear.
Staring at him in disbelief, you had no idea how you would come out of this situation alive, but the momentary peace deluded you into thinking that everything was going to be alright, and you held onto that fake reality was tooth and nail. As you didn’t put up much fight, your exhaustion eventually won, and you welcomed the numbness with open arms.
the end.

San Marino v.s. Roommate
San Marino - Real life
A European country. Founded when a guy accused of being a woman’s estranged husband fled to a mountain where he then created a church. Its head of government are two captains elected every six months. Was once almost been invaded by Napoleon, and twice by family of the Pope. Read more about San Marino below.
Roommate - Diary of a Tourney Kid
A clone of Adam Ruins Everything that came out wrong. He debunks things in the same way as his original, but completely incorrectly. Bill Cipher turned him into a hand puppet and fused him with a clone of another character. Fought Walter White and his evil shadow self, Walter Black. Read more about Roommate below.
Full description of San Marino:
“Okay look I know it’s a country and not a character but perhaps I can convince you that it’s a wacky guy… the wackiest ever in fact. First of all I believe nothing can top its batshit insane political system. The heads of state are called CAPTAINS and yes it’s plural there are 2 of them. And they are elected… every SIX MONTHS. I shit you not. And even better. They’re usually from OPPOSING PARTIES. How anything gets done is a mystery to me. Anyway moving on to history. It was almost invaded by Napoleon in 1797, but one of their regents prevented that. How? He became friends with Napoleon. Napoleon valued their friendship so much he even offered to extend San Marino’s territory… isn’t that crazy. Also. It was the first country ever to democratically elect a communist government, elected directly after their fascist government mind you. All this while being the fifth smallest country in the world. It happened TWICE that a family member of the pope tried to invade San Marino. There can only be one Italian microstate etc (jk I have no idea what their reasoning was). It’s the fact that the whole country only exists because some guy decided to fuck off to a mountain after a woman accused him of being her estranged husband. So he built a church and there you have it San Marino was created. And yeah it’s the oldest surviving republic in the world with the oldest constitution. That’s simply the San Marino way being so special so wacky so unique…”
Full description of Roommate:
"OK OK OK SO LIKE. HE'S FROM THIS MASHUP TOURNAMENT HOSTED ON SOUNDCLOUD & DISCORD CALLED "DIARY OF A TOURNEY KID, RIGHT? YES, IT IS BASED OFF OF DIARY OF A WIMPY KID IN NAME, THEMING, AND A BUNCH OF THE CHARACTERS IN IT. AND YES, THE ENTIRE PREMISE WAS STARTED BY GREG HEFFLEY TRAPPING A BUNCH OF PEOPLE IN THE DIARY. LOOK. OKAY. THAT ISN'T THE POINT HERE. (including a few real people but. roommate isn't one of those real people, LOL)
so Roommate is, like, a WEIRD case. he's a clone of a TV personality version of a real guy(adam conover specifically the whole thing he does in, like, adam ruins everything), but is SPECIFICALLY STATED TO BE A SEPERATE CHARACTER IN LORE. LIKE. HES A WHOLE OTHER GUY. HE DOESNT EVEN ACT LIKE HIM. HES LIKE. THE SCOOBY DOO VILLAIN EQUIVALENT OF A MAN. all he does is run around and "Debunk" shit but hes getting it all totally WRONG. It's like, if someone who never watched adam ruins everything before took one look at its name, the blonde, glasses wearing combover having guy on the cover, and went. "oh, this guy is gonna be HORRIBLE, isnt he". and in the shows case thatd be wrong but in roommate's case, he's...he's so pathetic. he's not even the same guy at this point. (and also literally isn't. but)
He never even manages to intimidate anyone even once. not even mr beast and ninja fortnite, (part of a team called Dubious Duo) who he just. VERY much annoyed via "ruining" twitch. He also got turned into a meaty handpuppet and fused to another clone of a different character by BILL CIPHER, of all characters but then immediately fell into a hole. He got his shit beaten out of him by a 19 year old punk catboy JUST before this, too. the punk catboys name is Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart BUT HE IS IN NO WAY RELATED TO THE REAL GUY. HES LITERALLY JUST. SOME RANDOM TEENAGER.
Also, extra fun facts about him include: during an event that happened on the discord, he canonically went ":3". He made his own ytp and posted it on the soundcloud account, too. he put a bunch of goofy wacky cartoon sounds in it. (his mashups use these sounds a lot outside of the ytp, too.) (incase you REALLY wanted to hear the ytp, though. here it is:
P.S: extra information from a friend because they like to infodump this sort of thing & this isn't nescessary at all. but: He gets the fandom nickname of "Roommate" from his connection to Collegehumor & the Insane Clown Posse song In My Room, which he used in the tournament & is strongly associated with. He's so. He's so normal.
(P.S, P.S: THE IMAGE I SENT WITH THIS IS TECHNICALLY ART OF HIM FROM A CROSSOVER WITH ANOTHER SOUNDCLOUD TOURNAMENT THAT HAPPENED. BUT. its the best render i have that isnt done in like. ms paint LOL. IN SAID CROSSOVER (WITH A TOURNAMENT CALLED "THE PERFECT TOURNAMENT") HE ALSO FOUGHT WALTER WHITE AND HIS. EVIL SHADOW SELF, CALLED WALTER BLACK. WHO WAS LITERALLY HIS SHADOW.)
also: nobody in the fandom knows what his deal is, either. they literally just couldnt catch the real adam conover at first so they (In canon) just went "well! time to make a clone, i guess!" and then he came out WRONG."

Priest (Author) Character Lower Bracket

[“Anti-propaganda” is not allowed. Please only give reasons to vote FOR a character, and please be courteous in the notes.]
Chu Huan from Of Mountains and Rivers / Shan He Biao Li
Submission:
His vibes are insane. A character pipi made by putting Wen Kexing and Zhou Zishu in a jar and shaking, and then wrapping the result in the most unassuming shell possible. That one post that went like "perfectly normal man that has something seriously wrong with him" might as well have been made about him. Kills like 20 ppl in his introduction scene, falls off a cliff, gets on a bus, and agrees to become a teacher for those random guys he met because one of them is hot. Speaking of, his bi awakening and accepting it happens in a span of like, one second. *Sees a hot guy* welp, homosexual attraction is not a sin! Also, somehow has perfect tumblr shitposter vibes. Was asked what's a word for "good brother" in his language and after careful consideration said "bitch". Did I mention he's insane? "Play me a tune, and I'll go along with your BDSM play." Or that time he woke up after being clinically dead for a bit (saw his deceased loved ones asking him to go into the light and all) and to his bf's frantic questioning of "Does it hurt?" immediately went "Yes. It hurts a lot. You have to kiss it better." like bestie your priorities.... Anyway yeah what a guy.

Bakugou & Midoriya
after whiskey, saint anthony always gets mean by ArsenicInYourPudding
Midoriya is injured, possibly under a quirk effect, and can’t remember the last several years. Bakugou has to try to convince him he’s really been rescued by acting like the version of himself Midoriya knew growing up.
Operation Cheer Up Kacchan! by blossomshed
Kirishima and Kaminari come to Midoriya for advice on how to cheer Bakugou up, but everything Midoriya suggests inexplicably backfires in hilariously specific ways.
Throw the Last Door Open by the_crownless_queen
Bakugou and Midoriya fail at riding an elevator and other shenanigans.
you will find me (time after time) by achievingelysium
Adult!Bakugou time travels to the past, runs into kid!Midoriya at the mall, and has to help him find his Mom.
Shinsou & Midoriya
What They Say About Assumptions by JustGettingBy
Shinsou time travels to the past, meets a quirkless Midoriya, and comes to the really quite reasonable conclusion that he must have gotten a quirk from All for One.
Someone Blessed by blueseam
Midoriya befriends Shinsou against his will through the power of unconditional kindness and unintentional injury. Also Todoroki is there.
Speak It Free by aloneintherain
Shinsou finds out that Midoriya was bullied growing up.
Dadmight
With Warm Regards by QuizzicalCrow
Midoriya has to fight against mind control in order to save All Might’s life.
Could I but Teach the Hundredth Part by terra_incognita
Outside POV—an old lady living in an apartment complex doesn’t understand why her neighbor constantly has so many young people visiting him (it’s class 1-A visiting All Might).
With(out) You by QuizzicalCrow
All Might thinks Midoriya died and is understandably upset about it (he’s fine though it’s a quirk effect).
Dadzawa
Forget Me Not by NightOwl1600
For some reason, Aizawa is the only person who can remember that Shinsou exists. This is a big problem, since Shinsou has also gone missing.
the smallest reason by achievingelysium
Traitor!Aizawa adopts Eri and suddenly realizes he doesn’t want to be a villain anymore.
passing through fire by achievingelysium
Aizawa and Midoriya got attacked by a villain. Aizawa tries to deal with the aftermath, even though he can’t quite remember what happened.
I also have 2k+ bookmarks on ao3! Here’s the link to my bookmarks tagged as platonic bkdk and here’s the link to all my bnha bookmarks marked as favorites.

A great example of how no matter what you do, some people will still find the smallest reasons to hate you is that one time a youtuber named LavenderTowne made a video titled "If Gross+Scary Horror Guys Were Attractive", and some people were legit getting mad at her for drawing them as skinny white boys. Some went as far as to say that that meant she "only likes skinny white boys"
On her channel, LavenderTowne has drawn plenty of POC and non-skinny female/female characters. But to those people, that still isn't enough. One single video full of skinny white boys is enough to make them flip their sh1t
And I honestly don't know what those people were expecting her to draw those characters as when they clicked on the video. Like - did they expect a bunch of plus-sized POC or something? Are they so dumb that they fail to realize that those characters ACTUALLY MAKE SENSE TO BE DEPICTED AS SKINNY AND WHITE? One of them is literally a canonically white character, and the rest either look white/has pale skin, or are played by a white actor. And none of them are chunky or anything
If she DIDN'T draw them as skinny white boys, people would either: 1. Call her racist because those characters are supposed to be scary horror movie villains after all, or 2. Complain that she isn't being accurate to the original characters. Seriously, no matter what she did, some people will still find a reason to complain

Character who's the main antagonist of a game which has themes of hope and despair and how bad experiences can affect someone to the point of influencing their whole world view and the reason she's the main villain is because her experiences have caused her to isolate herself save for a select few people who went through similarly horrible things and they all believe that the world is too "rotten", hopeless and far gone and it's impossible to live happily in it and they meet a deity telling them about a power that exists and grows stronger because of the negativity of everyone in the world and will eventually cause it's destruction so they dedicate themselves to protecting this power in order to die together (rather than dying one after another) and because they believe the destruction of the world as it currently is is the only possibility for a better future. And when the personification of all life in the world calls out for help to stop it she ends up manipulating each of them into believing that said personification of life is a malicious and destructive being and after her final confrontation with a mentally ill friend group who are themselves trying to get through things together and have regained their hope for a better world and future she realizes that things can change for the better even if you make the smallest contribution and the reason she and her friends are still here is because they helped each other survive and her last action in the story are her saving the protagonists, making it possible for them to continue on to stop the destructive force, ask of them to save the world, and cheer them on among the many others who have regained hope thanks to them. In the next game, she appears as a cameo and talks about how she herself is working to make the world a more hopeful place while still keeping in touch and checking on her old friends. And the character looks like this:

hiii i really like ur villain wordgirl au so i wanted to ask, how exactly would becky feel betrayed upon finding out two brains was boxleitner? is it because they tried so hard to keep it a secret from her?
Tumblr media
yeah!! and a couple of more factors
because dr. two-brains is her main guardian, even her first father figure, becky was always close to him and saw him as a shining example of what a villain should be. when she was younger her admiration towards him was not unlike canon becky's to steven boxleitner, since he was one of the reasons she became a villain in the first place, and her main motivation was to follow in his footsteps and make him proud. when she finds out who he originally used to be, she's hurt because she finds out second-hand that her 'hero', ironically, wasn't who he said he was. she's scared of what it means for her and it hurts that he didn't trust her enough to tell her, and you all will come to find that she lashes out when she's hurt.
secondly, like the vibecky break-up, becky's upset because the people she had that was the closest to family she would ever get lied to her, since this was a secret that was actively kept by all the villains. in general, she feels out of place with everyone, because she's the youngest and smallest villain and a bit of a detriment to them at times. she's reckless and clumsy and ends up getting whatever villain she's tagging along with on crimes caught. she's desperate to make them proud and be one of them, so the fact they kept this from her makes her incredibly upset, because in her mind it's like they don't trust her, or they think she couldn't handle it. though, she is more upset with dr. two brains above all.
though, of course, swapped becky's emotions are a bit more explosive, which leads to her snapping at them all :(

I got tagged by @wurzelbertzwerg so her are my replies
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
30
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
296,244 as of today but I'm posting weekly updates on a story nowadays.
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Primarily Northanger Abbey and Good Omens although I've written something for all of Austen's published novels and other TV shows (not all posted on AO3)
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
I'm ordering these from most to least:
An Equitable Arrangement - GO. Sequel to Renovation. A/C go from pretending to be a couple of humans to pretending to be a human couple.
Origin Story - NA. Modern hero/villain AU inspired by Mega Mind.
Opposite of Retirement - GO. Sequel to Equitable Arrangement. A/C do not get a peaceful, boring retirement.
The Renovation - GO. C is unhappy with his flat and decides to renovate it.
The Smallest Angel - GO. A is shrunk.
5. Do you respond to comments?
Yes but I always feel like I'm doing it wrong. Like, I have posted whole pages of words just above here and I need to write something else like Thank you? But that feels a little skimpy given that so few people comment these days. And also, what's a reasonable time between the comment and the reply that doesn't feel like I'm stalking my inbox?
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Lamb - Mansfield Park. In response to a Halloween prompt ("illness").
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Northanger Federated? It very clearly ends happily ever after.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
I got a relatively gentle, hate-tangential comment once on Welcome to Austenville. It has multiple couples in it from Austen's novels. I had changed one canonically M/F couple into a F/F couple and someone left a comment that they would not be reading the rest of the story due to that. Note: this was not on AO3 but on another site where I was cross posting.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
No. I tend to try to watch my language unless it's character compliant, even swapping out "oh my god!" with "oh my goodness!" I tend to stay away from explicit scenes. I also typically note if there's violence, sexual innuendo, or implicit scenes as a warning. Long ago, I started posting on a site that abided by an ambiguously understood "family friendly" policy and I've internalized that recommendation.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
I'm more of a "saw a movie, imma cram my blorbos in it" writer, but if you consider mixing characters from different Austen novels in the same story, then yes, I have done crossovers.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
I don't think so? No one's told me.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
I have had a fic translated INTO SONG! For years, I wrote a little parody of something Jane Austen as a Christmas Carol and blackglass actually sang Who Would Say No? (Austen crossover about heroines refusing a marriage proposal to the tune of Up On The Housetop).
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Does a beta reader count? I think I'd love someone to poke me along but also I'd need them not to poke when I am too busy IRL.
14. What’s your all time favourite ship?
It has to be Henry Tilney and Catherine Morland. Boring but gets the job done.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
My COVID inspired P&P that focuses on Lady Catherine and her friends sending letters back and forth as England succumbs to a mysterious plague,,, of werewolves. I was angry at the time with how people in power (the Lady Catherines of the modern world) were so eager to put front line workers in danger to support their lifestyles. But now that everyone is actively, deliberately coughing on everyone else, it feels like the moment has passed.
16. What are your writing strengths?
I'm willing to move from one fandom to another based on my inspiration. I'm willing to kill my darlings which is good for suspense.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Action and choreography. I struggle with these, have no idea if I'm using the right vocabulary for the expert who knows those terms nor the novice who just wants to read something entertaining. I feel like I'm never right.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I did a Casablanca inspired Persuasion piece which had some German and French in it. My peer reviewer at the time knew someone fluent in German and I've had enough French that I could sprinkle in a few lines for atmosphere without requiring my readers to know a second language. I did try to get clever and put the translations into a tooltip you could hover over so you didn't need to scroll or click around, and then I realized it doesn't really work on touch screens or sites that strip out HTML as a security precaution.
As far as writing a whole story in another language, I think it would need to be a very short story.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Pride and Prejudice, "Lizzy and the Three Ghosts" which has not been posted on AO3. I had read enough JAFF to be thoroughly comfortable with P&P, before I started to really get behind NA.
20. Favourite fic you’ve written?
Origin Story is my favorite NA on AO3; you should read it.
I have no idea who else to tag but consider this your open invitation.

torture your pick and skin for pepper 😃
ough >:3 WE DOIN' LEENER + PEPPER!!!
torture: Has your OC ever been tortured? Would your OC ever torture someone else?
SO... Yeah. For Leena, if you don't want to read her incomplete/unedited history, the TLDR is: She was murdered, turned into a robot and made to serve as a replacement housewife. Unfortunately for her world, she was the fated heroine said to bring justice for all robots like herself, and sure enough, at first, she succeeded, but was later captured, tortured, and discarded/displayed. She is now a villain who... well, murders people for various different reasons (though it's pretty rare that she kills people funnily enough). Though, no one knows SHE'S the villain besides like, her best friend, the underground crime ring, and her wife (who is also a villain). She is currently serving as one of my worlds' president lmao. Torture is something she ABSOLUTELY is for and loves to do personally. She's slaying (literally)
skin: How comfortable is your OC in their skin? Do they grapple with anything that lives inside them—a beast, a curse, a failure, a monster? How do they face the smallest, weakest, most horrible version of themself? Are they able to acknowledge it at all?
Peps... or well, Meg, is. Complicated LOL! They're cursed with premonition... future visions. Sucks, but at least they seemed to believe stuff was fixed, and are kinda haunted by that. They've always... been mostly uncomfortable with themselves, though. They ignore shit as best as they can, but this is moreso due to being autistic and having issues with sensory regarding their body. However, their body's been replaced so many times to where they... ignore everything as best as they can...

NOSTALGIAMARE ENTRY 26
NAME: MADELINE: LOST IN PARIS
COMPANY/FRANCHISE: DIC ENTERTAINMENT
BUENA VISTA ENTERTAINMENT
MADELINE
CATEGORY: MOVIE (ANIMATED/DIRECT TO VIDEO)
YEAR: 1999
DESCRIPTION: Madeline's first animated feature-length film. In an old house in Paris that was covered in vines lived 12 little girls in two straight lines. The smallest one being Madeline, a young girl with a cheerful attitude who is never afraid of anything. When Madeline's life-long wish for a family comes true when she is reunited with her long-lost "Uncle Horst", she sadly has to leave behind all of her dearest friends. But this proves to be a big mistake when it slowly becomes clear that this so-called "Family" is not real and is instead being led to becoming a puppet for a cruel trick. Something is not right, and it's up to her great mind and fearlessness as well as the help from all of her friends to escape these clutches and save everyone else trapped.
MOD THOUGHTS:
1: This animated movie from DIC Entertainment that was marketed towards late 90s kids had the BALLS to realistically depict the horrors of labor trafficking, child labor and ABUSE while keeping it a movie for a young audience and I'm kinda mad that people seem to overlook Lost In Paris and disregard it for whatever reason as a result.
2: Not to mention the songs in this movie are surprisingly well-written and beautiful like I never thought I would get emotional over something like THIS-
youtube
3: Though I'm kinda weirded out over Jason Alexander playing an antagonist. Idk if this is the first time he played a villain role in a movie and I never realised but jesus christ is he talented or what-

Christopher Lee: A Sinister Centenary - Number 8
Welcome to Christopher Lee: A Sinister Centenary! Over the course of May, I will be counting down My Top 31 Favorite Performances by my favorite actor, the late, great Sir Christopher Lee, in honor of his 100th Birthday. Although this fine actor left us a few years ago, his legacy endures, and this countdown is a tribute to said legacy! Today’s Subject, My 8th Favorite Christopher Lee Performance: King Haggard, from The Last Unicorn.
Tumblr media
In the 1980s, classical fantasy films were pretty popular. Movies like “Labyrinth,” “Legend,” and “Dragonslayer” were all over the place, and most of these movies remain cult classics (if not outright “classics”) to this day. There was a certain charm to fantasy of the 1980s, both during that time and now, when looking back, that you just don’t find in other movies of a similar sort. One of the earliest of these 80s fantasy flicks, and one of my personal favorites, is 1982’s “The Last Unicorn.”
Based on the novel by Peter S. Beagle (who also wrote the screenplay, and had a hand in casting), this movie was a theatrical release by Rankin/Bass. I mentioned them before on the very first entry of the countdown, as the people who made classic Christmas specials like “The Year Without a Santa Claus” and “Frosty the Snowman.” They actually released several classic fantasy pieces, too, most of which were TV films…but “The Last Unicorn” was a rare cinematic production. Typical of Rankin/Bass, the movie boasts an all-star cast, prime among them Christopher Lee as the main antagonist: the mysterious and menacing King Haggard. The story of “The Last Unicorn” focuses on the titular Unicorn, who has learned she may be the last of her kind. Deciding to find out if this is true, she goes on an adventure to try and find the other Unicorns. She soon learns that a creature called the Red Bull (which does NOT give you wings, for the record) has captured all the unicorns, and hidden them somewhere under the command of the tyrannical Haggard. Haggard is a perennially miserable figure: it’s revealed that, for unknown reasons (at least in the film), he has essentially lost all zest for life. Nothing makes him happy: he desperately seeks anything that can give him the smallest amount of joy, but nothing works. Nothing…but the Unicorns. Haggard has discovered that only the enchanting presence of the Unicorns gives him pleasure of any kind, and makes him feel, in his own words, “truly young again, in spite of himself.” He quickly comes to suspect that the “Lady Amalthea” who visits him (the Unicorn, disguised as a human) is the one missing unicorn he has never been able to track down, and tries to figure out a way to get her to reveal herself, and thus capture her, too. Lee claimed that Haggard was one of his favorite roles. He loved it so much that he volunteered to do the German dub of the film (Lee spoke fluent German), just because he enjoyed the character so much. He likened the character to Shakespeare’s King Lear; I have to admit, a while back, I had no idea what he meant by that. Nowadays, I can KIND OF see it. Shakespearean allusions aside, however, Lee’s performance is largely what makes Haggard a compelling villain: he, of course, is able to bring a sense of command and sinister power to the character. That’s honestly to be expected. But what I love most about Haggard are his softer moments. This character so easily could have been depicted as a cartoonish, crotchety figure: Just some old sourpuss who hates everyone and who everyone hates – a slightly more evil Eustace from Courage the Cowardly Dog, if you will. That’s not what Lee does: you don’t really know WHY Haggard is so utterly depressed throughout the movie, but you really do feel “depression” is the word for it. There are moments where you feel sort of sorry for him, because the overwhelming sadness is so palpable. The way he talks about the Unicorns is almost touching; he sees them like angels, saviors to his eternal dreariness. At the same time, however, you never forget he’s the bad guy, his moods swinging rapidly, giving him a sense of leaning heavily towards total madness. He also has some of my favorite, most quotable lines any Lee character has ever had. Just for one example: “I can wait. The end will be the same: I can wait.” A cartoon baddy played by Christopher Lee just gave you one of the best quotes about patience you’ll ever hear. I love this movie. ^^ The time has come to move into the final week of the countdown. Tomorrow, I present my choice for Number 7!
