when i took my english class on approaches to literature and culture last semester (the one taught by the professor whom i eventually got to play the beginner's guide), the final project consisted of interviewing someone we knew about their perspective on literature and its place in culture and then doing a write-up about it. i interviewed my high school english professor. it took about 12-15 minutes iirc; it was nice to catch up with him and he provided some neat insights. this post isn't about him, though.

see, one of my theater friends - the one who directed our production of hamlet, in fact - is taking that class this semester, taught by a different professor (one i also know and very strongly appreciate (...and whom i also got to play the beginner's guide)). he has to do a slightly different version of that same assignment; he needed to interview someone for at least 20 minutes.

he decided to interview me :)

so i got to talk with him for what was at least a half hour today (probably double that counting our conversing before and after he turned on/off the recording) about the ways we define and interact with literature. we talked about theater stuff (i brought up r&g are dead three times, because how could i not), but also video games and fanfiction; about interpretations and retellings of stories and the baggage that comes with them and what it even means to write something "original"; about what it means to approach something literarily as an actor versus a reader versus a writer; and a whole bunch of other stuff i'm forgetting rn.

it was. really, really nice. to get to do that.
