Ok, great question! Thank you! This one I'm relying most on knowledge I already have from general fandom stuff- but I'll throw in some Aenar headcanons as well! (Aka I massacre the four gender system, oof)

This deals with Gender, Bio-sex, general courting/pregnancy/ etc. More under the cut!

They're compatible with basically everyone- only certain rare/very different species are unable to have kids with them. (Ferengi, Gorn, etc.)

As to gender/bio sex stuff, the wiki and a few of the shows say that there are 4 Andorian genders, and I agree! But, however, I'd think there'd be 3 bio-sexes as that makes the most sense to me.

-The four genders thing is a thing, but there are only 3 biological sexes. (M/F/Int.) Int = intersex

-The 4-person marriage thing I think would be more of a traditional type of marriage where 2-3 people is more common.

-The andorian gender spectrum is

a- indicative of bio-sex

b- includes trans people

So, I think it may look like this:

Cha, Tha, Shen, Zhen.

Male, masc. leaning, fem. leaning, female

Cha and Zhen are for AMAB and AFAB respectively. You cannot be a Cha or A Zhen unless ur AMAB or AFAB.

Shen and Tha are the feminine and masc. versions of Cha and Zhen but not indicative of bio-sex!

meaning:these are the 2 genders for trans people/ the third bio-sex (Intersex)

*Technically there is a neutral-leaning nonbinary gender (which bumps the genders up to 5) But it’s simply like English with the pronoun (their/they/them) called Kii'an or kiin

So, for example, if one is a Zhen (AFAB) and wants to transition to a masc. gender, then they’d take on Tha instead of Cha. Reverse it for a Cha who would like to lean feminine- they'd take on Shen.

ok, so that's gender! Onto the compatibility/species courtship question!

Again, they're pretty compatible with everyone. Kids from these unions are treated with respect and are a part of the community. Again, psychic blindness is a thing, so if a half-Aenar child didn't inherit psychic abilities they'd still have a place among the Aenar.

Are these unions common? Hell no. Can they happen? Hell yes.

The Aenar are more isolationist, but that's due to the common-held belief that every other society is still figuring themselves out. (The Aenar believe that pacifism is the ultimate solution for societal problems) If there were any Vulcan, human, or Klingon (ESPECIALLY THEM) who were to take a peace oath and give up violence- they'd be welcomed with open arms.

As for pregnancy and medical stuff- the Aenar are pretty top-notch in medical tech, and their maternity wards are great! They take pregnant people seriously and treat them with care and respect! (aka. if one were to be in the Aenar capitol and pregnant there'd be a line of people trying to make your life easier by carrying things/paying for things/wishing you luck etc.)

Oh! And there's a ton of traditions around pregnancy with announcements, ceremonies, and parties! Most of the time the parents-to-be are not expected to plan anything- it falls onto the grandparents or another family member so the couple/quad/trio etc. can just enjoy the celebration!
