Meanwhile, this bitch is regularly spending hundred of dollars on useless products for her plastic face, and trying to shill for this company to her followers. How out of touch can she possibly be? I'm wondering if this is her new plan, to be some sort of beauty guru or makeup influencer. Yet, Jess already said herself (a few times) she doesn't like makeup or to wear much of it. Which is fine, I don't wear a bunch either but at the same time I kind of don't believe she doesn't wear a lot of it. Once again, fine to wear makeup, as much as you want to wear, but does anyone really believe Jess's appearance isn't the result of a lot of makeup in order to look "natural"?

My problem with her "beauty" stuff isn't the fact that she got surgery or uses makeup and other products. My problem is that she tries to promote inner beauty or this idea that her look is natural when even before she posted that story we could all see that it wasn't.

The money she spends on skincare products alone is astounding. It's the cost of my rent. Entirely. Yet she has money for that, at least monthly, then upkeep on her face (fillers/botox), whatever she's doing with her hair, and these clothes she buys. Like that t-shirt for a somewhat dubious charity being $142 dollars or something ridiculous.

She also has the nerve to keep posting about victims of domestic violence. Once again, fine if she actually believes in that cause but she honest to God never posted about that subject, ever, until this year. 99% of those posts have been since she's gone private. Who is she promoting this image to and why? Why couldn't she have been promoting Peace Over Violence since she got the certificate (which I remind you was last year). It's only important to her now for some reason. Is it the wannabe influencer thing? Is it like someone said, about trying to get on reality TV and a baking show? Is it to "rebrand" her image as non-toxic since she's been exposed?

How out of touch and tone deaf to your audience do you have to be to also be bragging about this much worth of skincare. I also think she probably bought it with her own money. If not, if it legitimately was a gift, it's only because over the course of 9 years she's been seeing this doctor and has spend tens of thousands on products already. Scam products. The woman who sells this stuff should be ashamed at the markup (and false advertising) and Jess should be ashamed of being too stupid to know these products are a rip off. hey there! ahh, two topics near and dear to my heart!

starting with comedogenicity: noncomedogenic is not a regulated term, meaning there are no standards that need to be met in order for a product to be labelled as such. there are comedogenicity rating scales (i.e. the ones you see on INCIdecoder and cosdna), however the ratings are a result of testing on rabbit ears, which are physiologically different from human facial skin (they tend to react much more dramatically, and not always to the same products). there are a few ingredients that are known to be common comedogenic triggers, for instance coconut oil — but even then the response varies immensely from individual to individual. the comedogenic potential of a finished formulation can also be different (higher or lower) than that of its separate components, due to their physical and chemical interactions. all this to say, as of yet there are no standard methods to assess the comedogenicity of a product, and any scales, ratings and labels we have are only a vague indicator of a probability that will ultimately depend on your skin and its preferences.

secondly; i do understand the preference for natural skincare, but natural is not always safer (no man-made chemical can thus far even reach the ankles of nature’s most potent poisons in terms of toxicity), nor is it always more sustainable: to obtain a vitamin C-rich extract or oil, for instance, you need to have a plantation of the source plants, which consumes a lot of water and energy and land (hello, deforestation!), and you need to cut them down and create a lot of byproduct/waste for only a tiny fraction to be concentrated into a very, very small quantity of oil/extract, which would still contain an array of contaminants and unknown compounds that could be irritant or allergenic. if you used a synthetic, lab-made ascorbic acid molecule, you’d have 100% pure actives that save all of that land, etc., and that are more effective to boot. add to this that farms are often run at the cost of underpaid labourers… ah, i have a ‘green beauty myths’ post in the works, i’ll stop here, but stay tuned for that one! 

in short, assess each product case by case. copy-pasting the ingredients list into INCI Decoder can help you make sense of it and of what is a potential comedogenic trigger, but it is still always a process of trial and error. non-comedogenic labels on products & brands don’t mean much at all. and rather than looking for brands that greenwash themselves as X% natural / chemical-free, opt for brands that champion social causes (i’m not an avid user of theirs, but the body shop is a good example of this). and always be wary — are brands trying to use your desire to do good in the world and to live healthily to get you to buy more products that are less effective and just as ecologically damaging?
