any skin care (face) advice?
hi darling!! thank you so much sending in an ask! i’m so excited to answer this omg i LOVE skincare!! 🤍
faustina’s skincare tips. ᥫ᭡
just as a friendly reminder: everyone is different. no one has the exact same skin type/concerns, but i’ll try to keep my list of tips more generalized so that anyone with any kind of skin type can take them into consideration!
— tip #1 : stop touching your face!
i used to be a chronic face toucher/picker and it’s a habit that’s kind of hard to break! but think about it: your hands touch soooooo many different things throughout the day and that means there’s soooooo much bacteria, dirt, & grime probably sticking to your hands and when you go to touch your face, your just transferring all that bacteria onto your face! gross, right? stop touching your face!
picking at your pimples is also a huge no! picking at your acne can cause acne scarring, so leave your pimple alone! don’t pick at it, don’t try and pop it, just let it be and let your acne treatments do all the work!
pro tip — wash your hands before doing any kind of skin care! make sure you’re washing your hands for at least 20 seconds and make sure to scrub any and all surfaces of your hands!
— tip #2 : change your pillowcase weekly!
this should be a given, but if you aren’t already changing your pillowcases regularly then it’s no wonder you’re breaking out babe! there’s so much sweat, dirt, and bacteria that can build up in your pillowcase and, like with touching your face, can lead to all that ickiness transferring onto your face!
pro tip — invest in a silk/satin pillowcase! not only will it benefit your hair, but it’ll also benefit your skin!
— tip #3 : start simple!
i know we all see these different viral skincare products that we’re all dying to try, but do not try them all in one go! the more new products you try out at once, the harder it’ll be to figure out which product is breaking you out if you have a bad reaction to something!
keep your skincare routine simple: face wash, toner, & moisturizer at night and toner, moisturizer, & spf in the morning! once you get a feel for the basics, then you can slowly start adding in new products!
pro tip — an easy way of finding out your skin type is by washing your face with your usual cleanser and waiting 30 minutes afterwards to see how your skin feels! don’t worry about using any other products!
if your skin looks extra shiny & feels kind of greasy, then you have oily skin
if your skin feels tight and looks patchy/flaky, then you have dry skin
if your forehead & nose feel greasy and look shiny, but your cheeks/chin area feel tight & look patchy/flaky, then you have combo skin
if your skin feels normal as in there’s no tightness, no dryness, no signs of oiliness, then you have normal skin
— tip #4 : double cleanse!
double cleansing has been a non-negotiable for me! i used to remove my makeup with makeup wipes, but they never fully removed my makeup leaving me with a lot of residue & new breakouts. i also used micellar water, but it was about the same results as when i was using makeup wipes. i still use micellar water when i have a full beat on, but i’ll only use it just to ensure that i got every last bit of makeup off!
i personally use the Anua Heartleaf Pore Control Cleansing Oil (the mild one!) as my first cleanse! i love that it doesn’t clog my pores, leaves my skin feeling clean, & really helps to remove all the makeup, spf (yes, double cleansing also helps to remover sunscreen!), and any dirt & grime from the day! i then go in with the Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser for normal to dry skin as my second cleanse!
double cleansing just helps to make sure your skin is clean and free from anything that can cause new breakouts!
pro tip — if you use an oil cleanser, be sure to emulsify it with water! always apply the oil cleanser onto dry skin, but before you completely rinse it off, splash your face with water and get your hands wet to start rubbing your face gently. you’ll see the oil turn into a milky, white texture! that’ll be how you know you’re emulsifying it! it just helps to make sure you’re getting that oil cleanser off!
— tip #5 : do your research!
there’s so many skincare products out there that people rave over, but before you go buy something that’s going viral, do your research! read product reviews, find people who have the same or similar skin type as you who are using the product, read the ingredients & make sure there isn’t anything in the product that you’ll have a bad reaction to!
make sure you’re looking for and researching products for your skin type! just because a product may say “best for all skin types” doesn’t mean it will actually be the best for you! so don’t be afraid to do deep dives on different skincare products!
final notes —
skincare is a lot of trial and error. you’re going to try different products and some may be a god-send for you while some may send you ten steps backwards! there may even be some products you try that just don’t do anything for you! and that’s okay! you have to figure out what works best for you and your skin, but let your skincare journey be something fun! after all, it is a form of self care!
with lots of love, faustina 🌷

Skincare Series ⋰˚☆
(Pt. 2) Products
Today we’re going to be talking about the different types of products and their benefits.

Having an overall knowledge of what each product does It will help you figure out what types of products you should be implementing in your routine.
What to shop for & what to avoid:
Korean skincare is going to be your best friend. Yes it’s a but more pricy but they’re some adorable option out there you just have to do your research. Your nearest cvs, target etc. should also have good skincare options.
What to avoid? Cheap dollar tree products and anything that has fragrance. This will ruin your skin so please do your research before you buy any type of product and always patch test.
Product Tip:
Always store your products in a cool dry area. Keeping your skincare cold will truly make a difference in the longevity of the product and will enhance their benefits. If you can invest in mini fridge great! if not keep them in your fridge or away from heat.
Types of products:
•Toner
•Serum
•Moisturizer
•Eye cream
•Face Mask
•Face mist
•Sunscreen
TONER: This is a water-based liquid formula that is created to hydrate, soften, smoothen, and hydrate the skin. It may even removes any last traces of dirt, grime and impurities stuck in your pores after you wash your face.
Always use an alcohol-free toner. Opt for witch hazel instead. You can apply with hands or with cotton pads.
SERUM: Serums can deeply penetrate the skin, which is why they’re great as hydrating products. They’re many different kinds of serums from dry oils to a water-based paste.
Some good serums to start with are Vitamin C serum or turmeric oil serums.
MOISTURIZER: To help keep the skin looking youthful, plump and well-hydrated use a moisturizer. This would lock all that moisture in and prevent your skin from drying out throughout the day
If you have dryer skin you’re going to need a thicker moisturizer and those with oily skin are going to need a lighter moisturizer.
EYE CREAM: Will help to improve the appearance of darkness, undereye-bags, aging, and puffiness. Some studies show that eye cream is necessary because the skin around the eyes ate thinner therefore needing more care.
To look and feel more awake use a caffeine infused eye cream. For the best results store eye cream in a cool/cold area.
FACE MASK: Not only are they hydrating and moisturizing it also tighten pores and refine skin texture. If your skin is ever feeling dry or dull put on a face mask.
Sheet mask are my absolute favorite. Other mask of a creamy consistency are the 2nd best. Always apply on a clean dry face. Theres others like under-eye masks & lip mask that work really well also.
FACE MIST: Usually packaged in a spray bottle it provides a quick hydration boost, especially if you have dry or dehydrated skin. This is the best on the go, a quick spritz and it will wet your face reactivating all your products.
Rose water or rice water make good face mist.
SUNSCREEN: As we know SPF 50+ is the most important step. Not only should you be using it all over your body but your face as well. Its important for protection your skin from the sun and avoiding permanent sun damage
You should be reapplying your sunscreen 2-3 in a day if you’re outside in the sun for prolonged periods of time. If you wear makeup opt for a spray to reapply without having to ruin your makeup.

Hello, it has nothing to do with aeon or RE but I read that you once gave love advice and I would like to ask about facial cleansing hahaha if you don't mind. Well I read that you mentioned that you are Asian. Which I would like to know if you have a routine or how you do it??? I have seen all Asians have beautiful porcelain skin and my goal is to have skin like that. Do you have any tips for pimples and blackheads on the face? What is your routine or what masks do you use? I have also seen actresses, for example in Korea, who are already 30 or older and still look young and have no wrinkles. Any secrets there for that?
hihi
dksbfkjsf
i do agree that i think that a lot of asians tend to look younger than their actual ages. and i don't really know what all constitutes as what is "younger looking" cause i also get 5 - 10 years off my age, which is kinda a lot.
i also think it's interesting that there's this conversation about "gen z are looking older than millennials" and i think that it's like 2 things.
gen z outfits are typically older looking. meaning unless they're doing like trendy "younger" stuff, a lot of their clothing ages them.
that's another tangent but i think the main thing is
it's the vaping
smoking is SO BAD for your skin and you might not see it for a while but one day it just HITS YOU. you'll be smoking or vaping from like 16 - 26 and see NOTHING and then one random day in your 20s, you're just like 40 year old looking
okay anyways also i don't wanna place value on age/beauty, if you look your age, that's fine! if you look younger/older than your age, that's fine too!
if you want to have better skin, there are a few things you wanna focus on
spf if you're going outside, moisturizer everyday, wash your face! clean your phone! change your pillowcases often! honestly most routines are fine if they are simple. using a million products will not guarantee that you will have good skin
eat a balanced diet, drink lots of water. limit drinking and avoid smoking entirely
if there are still issues, try to seek medical help if it's a hormone imbalance/issue or a thyroid issue
another thing to keep in mind is ALL media is photoshopped. all tv/film have filters etc that changes skin
almost ALL celebs have MONEYYY and access to skincare and surgeries
pimples are usually hormonal and SOMETIMES bacterial. you gotta figure out what the cause is. it can also be stress, poor skincare, location/humidity (my skin does so badly in humid climates lol) there's so many things that can cause pimples so i wouldn't stress too much on pimples tbh. they happen!
blackheads can usually be just excess sebum and something like salicylic acid or glycolic acid can help with mediating that (lots of people react differently to different acids)
if you're actually getting like huge blackheads (not whiteheads or excess oil) you might need to work on a better skincare routine
there's no secrets or tricks. it's just balancing a routine that works for you. what works for someone might not work for you
HOPE THAT HELPS

What to do when your skincare plateau hits
You’ve been diligent – washing, moisturising and applying serums, all with care. For a while, your skin responded beautifully. Then, without warning, progress grinds to a halt. The reflection in the mirror doesn’t improve despite your commitment, and frustration creeps in. This standstill is more common than you might think. Understanding why your skin stops reacting and knowing how to adapt…

Lanolin balm, found in the baby nursing section, is my goto for dry cracked lips. N-acetyl cystine, a dietary supplement, is effective for reducing the urge to pick for most people when used consistently.

thank you! i agree, i do focus on buying skincare as mindfully as possible- i currently use The Ordinary's vit c and retinol, cerave moisturising lotion and the LRP cicaplast. it's just my skin's a little dehydrated from the retinol (and from being oily in general) so i was wanting to add some extra hydration, and i heard hada labo is a very affordable, effective solution for it. do u also have any sunscreen recs for brown skin? i wanna use retinol more frequently but i never wear sunscreen lol
Yes! That's the way to do it. Hada Labo has always worked for me, so it's a good place to start. The Hada Labo Gokujyun Hydrating Lotion is supposed to be great for skin that's oily but dehydrated, so I would try that out.
For sunscreen, I would try:
Rohto Mentholatum - Skin Aqua Super Moisture UV Essence Gold SPF 50+ PA++++. This was the favorite on skincare Reddit. Supposedly has zero whitecast and leaves the skin looking glowy.
Trader Joe’s Invisible Sunscreen, if you're in the US.
Black Girl Sunscreen, which is specifically formulated for brown skin
CeraVe Hydrating Mineral Sunscreen Face Lotion with Sheer Tint
