Six impossible things before breakfast
Little twist with sentient twst au, yes, I didn't expect this either. Masterlist with more works here
Tumblr media
We've probably all heard the joke about "How many light bulbs does it take to (insert whatever)." Who would have thought that you would use a slightly modified version of it: how many more coincidences must happen to realize the truth.
Although can anyone really blame you for not wanting to admit that you are a bunch of colored pixels created purely for entertainment purposes? No, it even sounds nice. After all, your purpose was to create extras, a stage on which the main characters performed and shone. Those who had faces.
Did you always have yours? Could you always see it in the mirror in the morning?
Did figurative shivers run down your spine every time a faceless classmate addressed you? One of ten, hundreds, exactly the same. Have the main bunch had the same problem? That's the question you'd been asking yourself lately. Did they shrug off empty, replaceable shells, or at least for a second consider them their equals?
Perhaps the question should have been asked differently. Was this in the order of things for them, because the thought of the incorrectness of worldly norms did not flash through their heads. Or it was something simple and very banal - they did not realize that they were part of the game.
Were you special? The thought was flattering, but it was stupid to start turning up your nose. Maybe the supreme programmer, like the smart guys from Ignihyde, could consider you a virus, a bug, an annoying nuisance, which can be gotten rid of in a couple of seconds. Click and that's it, your file would be deleted.
The idea that death could be more than just literal took you by surprise.
It all started with a strange feeling of déjà vu, with a strange cyclical nature of what was happening. How the seasons did not change according to the laws of nature or, on the contrary, lasted longer than expected. Sometimes you wondered what month was going on, at least by counting. Or how you couldn’t say with certainty what year of study you were in. When was your graduation? Would it ever come?
How many times did the main characters celebrate their birthday? How many times had you celebrated it? Did you celebrate it from the start?
Lessons
Breaks
Exams
Holidays
Lessons
Was there an end to this merging stream of eternal students? Was the dormitory assignment ceremony that important? How many real “first-year students” were admitted each year? Why couldn't your educational journey end? Time adjusted and obeyed an invisible force; it existed only when it was convenient for someone.
Catching the attention of the local spotlight and getting on stage was the best way to get labeled as a "bug" and ask to be removed. However, the main threat was only the erasure of memory.
The next discovery was doubt about one’s own “specialness.” When consciousness had nothing to do, it began to cling to different details, trying to look for differences in a series of events repeated in the film.
When you knew what to look for, small mistakes that were not noticeable at first glance stand out more than usual. A slight shadow of boredom on the faces of the main ones. Lack of interest in the educational process and exams. As if only one “exam” was important in a bunch of exactly the same events. When the first years of Heartslabyul signed a contract with Ashengrotto.
With new information in mind, it became easier to identify important “events” and track time based on them. By how many times they were repeated in the endless flow of time. Taking notes and somehow recording data was more dangerous than you thought, all that was left was to come up with methods known to you alone. For example, in a dorm room on the bedside table there was a cluster of glasses, each containing specific color of pencils.
Did your roommates start to think you were weird and obsessed with order and cleanliness? Their right. You didn't care what they thought, besides, they would forget about it with the coming of a new day.
In order not to completely go crazy, you began to peer into the “faces” of other students, trying to spot at least a feature that distinguishes one from another. Either this world was too lazy, creating copy after copy in every dorm, or there was no point in trying. If you somehow came to terms with the feeling of the meaninglessness of what was happening, then the appearance of one student in several places at the same time still caused rejection.
Disgusting
If this world was someone’s experiment, then why were events cyclical? If this was a cage, then where was the exit. If this was a prison, then who was being held in it?
You made a mistake in observing a person without magic from another world. Trying to figure out whether Yuu's "world" was truly different or just as much a part of predestination as everything around. Was “Yuu” really the main one or just an extra? You could have sworn they didn't have a face. At least such clear features as all the main ones. Just as there was no character, how in each of the repeating events they could behave differently.
It was a breath of fresh air in the routine of never-ending study. The watching of the only part capable of changing in the world, subject to the same rules.
That's why, when one of the main ones suddenly approached you, you thought you were dreaming. Whether it was possible to fall asleep in the simulation was another question. Usually you went to bed, closed eyes, only to open them the next second to the sound of the alarm clock.
"Can I help you with something?" You smiled politely, but was it worth it? Could the main bunch distinguish between persons different from their privileged group.
Hunt. Was that his name? You weren't completely sure. He was part of something forbidden, something to be avoided at all costs. Part of the three “don’ts”: don’t look for information;don’t mention; don’t give yourself unnecessary temptations. Returning to the present moment, he just looked into your eyes with his constant smile, as if trying to find confirmation of something.
Like a true NPC, you continued to stand, frozen in one position and waiting for his answer. Until awareness came as abruptly as his appearance in principle. He looked straight into your eyes. Could he see your face the same way you saw it in the mirror? How long ago? Could the rest of the main ones see you too?
A billion questions were spinning in head at the same time as you tried to come up with a suitable excuse and reason to leave. The changes turned out to be too unexpected and frightening. Perhaps with the advent of a new “day” everything would return to normal.
“Is there a knight in the world who is not ready to devote all his deeds to one and only one, if this opens the veil of secrets at least a little? Will it allow him to find out what thoughts are spinning in head?”
It's a pity he was not a knight. Even though each word was pronounced with a special intonation, you only thought about how much water there was in his speech. Unfortunately, saying this out loud was an unaffordable luxury.
"..Is that so?"
“You are right, an étoile (star), I may be not one of their noble number, but even so I am not able to deny their order.” You let him continue, mentally counting down the minutes until the bell rang for lesson. “I may not have a sword in sheath, but It won`t change a way I live! Your smile can make my whole heart melt. There isn't lie in way I felt”
“I’m not good at poetry, but the rhyme is lame, Sir Hunt,” if it’s there.
“You’re right, writing poems is just one of my hobbies, to which I devote my few free leisure hours,” he continued, as if your words didn’t hurt him at all. “I hasten to assure you that there was no malicious intent in my actions. This modest hunter only wanted to greet a new connoisseur of everything beautiful and interesting."
No matter how much you hate beating around the bush, doubts creeping in from randomly thrown words. Sometimes the phrases spoken directly were the most frightening. However, not wanting to part with your role as an extra - which was burdensome, but at the same time giving a semblance of freedom - you continued to pretend to be an NPC.
"Should I congratulate you?.. Congratulations!" Any member of the film club would envy your feigned sincerity. A bell in three, two, "I don’t dare detain you any longer.”
The unsaid `like you would me` hung in the air. You had to hold out for the few remaining hours until the end. Fortunately, the main one did let you go, but smile, saying that its owner knew everything in the world, left an unpleasant aftertaste. One that your intuition suggested would accompany you for the next days.
It's going to be a very long a few hours.

Fandom Bingo: Alice in Wonderland
Welcome to Wonderland Bingo! Alice in Wonderland is one of my favourite children's novels, and I also love a lot of the adaptations inspired by it, especially if it's a darker take on the story, so of course, I have to do a flash bingo for it. This time, prompts are drawn not just from Lewis Carroll's original text, but also from Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland and American McGee's Alice + Alice: Madness Returns.
Since we have quite a lot of prompts, I've added the option of selecting just the general source category or cherry-picking your prompts, and everyone can sign up for a maximum of four cards this round.
As always, this event is multifandom, so you are free to sign up no matter what fandom you want to write for, and you can go for a Wonderland AU or something completely unrelated, it's entirely up to you.
**Signups here! Open until July 5th.**
General Rules:
You can interpret the prompts any way you want. If you think it fits, then it fits. All prompts, including the quotes, can just be used as inspiration or a general fit, no need to actually include them word for word in the fanwork, and tenses and pronouns can be swapped accordingly.
You can combine multiple prompts in one fanwork.
Each submitted fanwork should be new and complete, but it can be a standalone, part of a series, or one chapter of a multi-chaptered fic.
This bingo is primarily geared towards fanfic, but any medium is fine if you feel you can do it.
For fanfic, the minimum is 100 words with no maximum.
You can use fanworks submitted for this event for other events as well, so long as it’s okay with the other side too.
While signups are only open for a month, there is no time limit for completing a card.
This round's bingo offers both 3x3 and 5x5 cards. Everyone can sign up for a maximum of FOUR cards (please send in one form per card).
After submitting a form, please give me a week to reply with your card.
All content and ratings are allowed but please tag everything appropriately, especially if there’s trigger-warning content.
Please be respectful of each other. If you see content tags you don’t like, just scroll past and move on.
All fanworks must be your own creation. No plagiarism. No AI-generated works.
To Finish a Card:
Get a bingo! This can be: 🐇 1 horizontal row 🐇 🐇 1 vertical column 🐇 🐇 1 diagonal line 🐇 🐇 2 diagonal lines 🐇 🐇 or a blackout 🐇
Fill out the completion form (1 form/card).
When Posting:
You can post your fanworks to this AO3 collection here.
When you make a Tumblr post for your fanwork, remember to ping @fandombingo and tag #WonderlandBingo so I can reblog it.

Quite an unusual subject today but: music! More precisely, a "fairytale" album.
Have you ever heard of Joanna Wang? She is a Taiwanese-American singer, quite known, and I want to briefly evoke here an album of hers released in 2014: Midnight Cinema.
Tumblr media
As the name and the album cover show, this album is entirely dedicated to a specific type of cinema, which does contain - and this is why it is interesting for us fairytale afficionados - fairytale movies. In fact most (if not all?) the songs of this album are covers and reprises of songs from movies!
And the very first song of the album sets the tone for what this "Midnight Cinema" is about: titled "Alice in Wonderland", it is actually taken back from... Disney's Alice in Wonderland.
youtube
Outside of this song, the album also contains a cover of "Pure Imagination", the famous song from 1971's Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. And we do know that Roald Dahl works are considered "modern day fairytales"...
youtube
What I find most interesting with this album, however, is how it also chooses songs and melodies from what I consider to be "fairytale-adjacent" movies. I haven't spoken much about this (except for when I did a "Spooky fairytale" series back in Halloween) but there are stories and movies that have the feelings or are deeply linked to fairytales, without being fairytale themselves.
The most obvious of these choices would be how Joanna Wang covered "What is a youth", the beautiful song from the most famous Romeo and Juliet adaptation to this day, the 1968 movie. And if you know your Shakespeare, you will understand why his works are all "fairytale adjacent" - from his constant reuse of the exact supernatural characters involved in fairytales (kings, fairies, witches, star-crossed lovers) to him actually quoting and reference numerous fairytales (lines from "Jack and the Beanstalk" are found in King Lear, itself having a plot belonging to the "Love like salt" type of fairytale, while the British fairytale "Mr. Fox" is referenced in Much Ado about Nothing).
youtube
Another interesting choice would be the Moon River song, from "Breakfast at Tiffany's". Why? Because interestingly, there was a short study of the evolution of the figure of the "fairy" ("la fée" in French) I recently read, and among the various incarnations, this book stopped upon the classics of the American cinema to point out two female characters from non-magical movies that still were perfect fit for the archetype of the "fairy" as she was developed by medieval tales and literary fairytales. One was precisely Audrey Hepburn's character of Holly Golightly (I believe the other was the character of Lisa Carol Fremont, played by Grace Kelly in Hitchcock "Rear Window").
After these specific movies, the other tracks can have some names and lyrics evoking fairy tales... But they come from movies that have no relationship whatsoever with fairytales. Like the track "Love from Once Upon a Time" which actually comes from... "A Better Tomorrow", an 80s action movie of crime and battle considered to be the epitome of the Hong Kong genre called "heroic bloodshed".
I am not going to put here all of the songs of the album, but if you want to know the full list, here are the remaining songs:
Forgotten Times. From 2002's Infernal Affairs
The Dream Chaser. From 1990's A Moment of Romance.
The Scent of Roses. From 1994's "Red Rose White Rose"
Night Shanghai. From 1946's All-Consuming Love.
In the Mood for Love. This one does not come from a movie, but from a 2000 album by Tony Leung.
You Only Live Twice. From the 1967 James Bond movie of the same name.
This Precious Night. From 1991's Prison on Fire II.
If I Had Words. From 1995's A Little Pig Goes a Long Way.
Fun fact: While the album was sung and created by a Taiwanese artist, mixing Hong Kong cinema with America movies, it was actually recorded in Finland, with the music produced by Finnish musicians.

DCA Info Part 40: Meet Ottilie Phosia 🐛
Twisted from: The Caterpillar from Alice in Wonderland (1951)
Tumblr media
Ottilie Phosia (オッティリー・フォシア, Ottirī Foshia) is a 1st year student affiliated with the Futterwacken dorm.
History
Ottilie was born and raised in the Queendom of Roses. Her parents despite being described as odd are well respected individuals for having so many students to sign up for their classes and getting good grades. They are also of nobility so they are always invited to gatherings and parties.
Little is known about Ottilie's upbringing, however what is known is a peculiar incident where she experienced the cruelty of nature. After freeing a wild rabbit she she nursed back to health, a hawk flew down and snatched it. She cried for a week and even made a crude drawing of the rabbit and placed it on a fake grave her parents made just to make her feel better. Her parents won't let her live it down and would always tell guests and friends about it. This incident embarrasses Ottilie and dislikes being reminded of it.
Personality
Ottilie is described as having a typical ojou-sama personality, has proper manners and etiquette though her whimsical mannerisms are often mixed in, but she can't read the atmosphere sometimes and ends up making things confusing or awkward. But she is helpful when it comes to studying, all her mind-blowing way of phrasing often get stuck in someone's head.
She stated to be naive despite living with her well respected professor parents. There are occasions where she will say a quote that leaves everyone confused as to what she meant.
She can agree to shenanigans that seem interesting although most of the time she declines.
Ottilie likes all manner of bugs but her favorites are the ones that have eyespots on them, she always gets into staring contests despite knowing those are fake.
Appearance
Ottilie has fair skin, fuchsia eyes, and long lavender and dark purple colored hair commonly kept in twin braids with the hair's tips having curls.
First School Uniform
Tumblr media
Ottile wears her hair in twin braids with the hair's tips having curls. She wears a pale blue and yellow top with the top's marie sleeves having butterfly designs. The top also includes white ruffle cuffs and pink gem buttons. The top is worn over a pale lavender romper with puff pants that have periwinkle ribbons and bows. For footwear, she wears a pair of blue and yellow boots with gold details along with a pair of beige socks with butterflies on them.
Ottilie accessorizes with a gold crown with a pink circular gem attached to a pair of teal butterfly wings and a pair of antennas. She also wears a white ruffle collar with a periwinkle ribbon and a periwinkle sash with a gold chain attached to a key designed in the likeness of a butterfly with pink and teal wings.
Second School Uniform
Tumblr media
For her second ensemble, Ottilie wears her hair pulled back with twin curl braids and her skin tone appears to be slightly warmer. Her ensemble consists of a pale blue thin striped top with oversized puffs and navy blue webbed cuffs with gold trim. Over the top is a navy blue romper with webbed bottoms, gold trim and the center being a lighter shade and having faded stripes. The romper also has a four pointed collar with gold trim, three gold flower buttons with light fuchsia gem buttons in the center. For footwear, Ottilie wears a pair of low heeled blue shoes with gold soles and gold flower buckles with a pair of gold loop straps. She wears her shoes alongside a pair of gray pinstripe socks with white ruffle trim with gold ribbon in the center and the right one is longer than the left one.
Ottilie accessorizes with a two toned blue flower hairpiece with gold trim and gold antenna, a pair of white gloves and a terrarium purse attached to a gold key with flower and butterfly motifs.
School Statistics
Ottilie is classified as Student #8 and is in Class 1-A. She is a member of the Gardening Research Club and her best subject is Alchemy and is also her favorite school subject due to her perfume making skills. Her least favorite school subject is Incantations because she tends to go off the rails and mixed a few other words in out of curiosity.
Relationships
Family
Ottilie appears to have good relationships with both of her parents, although she dislikes it when they bring up the rabbit and hawk event. She is influenced by their poetry that resulted in her gaining interest in all things whimsical and strange.
Her father adores her and loves to send her gifts she likes, though the gifts come in odd or even numbers in the content.
Her mother gifted her a pipette and liked to read poems to her instead of usual bedtime stories, which is where Ottilie got her whimsical thoughts and speech patterns.
Pet
Ottilie has a pet is a Hickory Horned Devil Caterpillar that she named Squeaks due to the squeaking noises it makes. She has a terrarium purse which is a strong, transparent container that holds a mini garden in it for her caterpillar to be in, she dislikes leaving it alone so she always has it on her person. If she can't carry the container around then she keeps Squeaks hidden in one of her pigtails, which sometimes freak people out to see a big bug wriggling about a girl's locks.
Powers and Abilities
• Magic: Like her fellow students, Ottillie can do magic.
• Creating Scents: Ottilie's has a home-made pipette that she brought from home to make a variety of scents and fragrances. Her side of the room always has a lot of scented things kept in boxes, candles, perfume, paper, incense sticks and many more. Whenever she makes a fragrance, she always has colorful smoke swirling around her, sometimes she can make fragrances that can make shapes from the smoke when used. That's because she incorporates her magic and magical herbs into them.
Unique Magic
Ottilie's unique magic is called "Shroomy Sprout" (羽ばたく蝶の芽/シュルーミー・スプラウト, Shurūmī Supurauto; lit. “Fluttering Butterfly Sprout”). By touching a patch of dirt, she can grow mysterious mushrooms with a variety of effects, every mushroom always changes from every little thing she does such as what food she ate, how she felt and even if she feels a bit ill. The mushrooms don't stay there for long and will disappear in a puff of smoke after 10 minutes if not used.

JAM TOMORROW AND JAM YESTERDAY
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
featuring: sakusa kiyoomi x filipina!reader
contains: hamster wheel thoughts about children, there's two children (not yours) wandering a pharmacy so-- "bad parenting?", mentions of pregnancy, self insert!reader (tagalog pet names), fluff to “angst” if you squint
summary: sakusa never wanted kids until he wanted you
warnings: references a quote from alice and wonderland in this work: “the rule is jam tomorrow and jam yesterday, but never jam today.”
Tumblr media
sakusa kiyoomi doesn't like things he can't control. he can't control other people, can't control what they do or what they touch. and even as loud as he could howl, he can't make someone leave or stay whichever way he wanted, at home or on the court.
and besides the obvious bacterial infestations, knowing he could never really control them was one of the reasons why he didn't want to have kids.
didn't.
until he found you, the mere idea of a child prancing around with jammy hands, sticky and dirty little fingers touching anything and everything, made him sick to his stomach.
but sakusa can only control what he can control.
he was on his way home from practice when he'd gotten your text.
i'm late.
sakusa sees a future flash before his eyes, a future full of jam hands. jam hands today, tomorrow, jam hands in his space. in his house. one little one running a-mock around the house with their jam hands and-
a car horn is the dramatic hook that yanks him off the stage of paranoia. before he goes at the green light, he presses his forehead against the steering wheel and jerks back into the headrest. he takes the necessary minute to ground himself, watching the car skirt around his. when he's centered, he pulls over. he takes his phone off the holder and reroutes his gps to the nearest pharmacy.
it just so happens to be a mom-and-pop shop, full of far too many candy displays to pass fda approval, and complete with who could only be the disinterested daughter of said mom-and-pop working the register, jam hands knuckle deep in a full case of candy popped open right on her checkout counter.
rather than entertain a conversation her, he lets his eyes scan the signage until he locks his gaze on ‘family planning.’
his head is still spinning. jam hands. jam hands. jam hands.
a warm laughter is the dramatic hook that yanks him off the stage of paranoia, and sakusa looks up from the box he’d been studying on his way to the registers, that was before he got lost in the jam, and there’s a kid a mere five inches away from his face, and hers is covered in jam.
sticky strawberry jam, smeared across tubby, rosy cheeks as she reaches sweet, pudgy hands up to reach for a candy tucked into a tree-like display beside them.
and sakusa can’t breathe, but not because of the jam hands.
the girl has thick, dark, curly hair. just like him. and her eyes are the same as yours, bright and warm like shining suns glowing over the oceans of all your emotions tucked away in a clever gleam.
she can't be more than eight years old but she's almost up to his hip. he remembers that stage, tall enough to brag about it but not tall enough to count for anything. still she's lithe, floating across the tiles to try and reach her favor-- a blue sucker that's all the way at the top of the display.
why is blue your favorite? he'd once asked you after you'd plucked yourself a similar prize from a similar place.
blue raspberry is the best flavor of anything, omi-ko. it just is. was your perfect response.
around the corner comes another little one, a boy, with hair a mess across his face that reminds him of your tornado of tresses every morning. his laugh is boisterous and contagious, not unlike yours.
he's taller than who sakusa assumes to be his sister. plucking a red sucker from the display comes with ease, and there's that joyful melody once more.
cherry's always my go to. that had been his follow up. it's the same every time.
after all, cherry was and always would be cherry. that was something he could control. he could control his choice, bet safe. and there was never a cherry flavor sakusa disagreed with.
he attempts to soften the sigh he lets out, but the children hear him as if the breath was a hailstorm. four eyes blink up at him. even as he grabs the blue sucker from the tree, he watches the smudge of jam contort as the little girl phases through expressions from fear to surprise. the change is more beautiful than he thought. he passes it down to her wordlessly and sets the pregnancy test on the counter.
he readjusts his mask as he hands the cashier his card and soon his attention settles back on the girl. sakusa doesn't hesitate to open the wrapper when she lifts it his way, and he crouches to give it back to her.
now eye level with the dreaded jam schmear, he does a much better job concealing his sigh when he asks her, "if there were such a thing as. . . blue raspberry jam, would you pick it?"
"do you. . have bwlue jam?" that is her follow up.
he tells her he's sorry that he doesn't. that he hopes not one, not two, but four free blue raspberry suckers plucked from the tree will make up for it. and he rightfully earn's jam's forgiveness.
sakusa kiyoomi can only control what he can control, and because he couldn't control himself, here he drives the semi-familiar route home to your shared apartment from the mom-and-pop pharmacy.
so sakusa sets out to control what he can control. he carries the test box hand over hand with you. you sit up on the bathroom counter, a good six feet away from the test, with your eyes squeezed tightly shut. he sits on the ledge of the tub and softly traces his fingers down your legs to soothe their restlessness.
sakusa sees a future flash before his eyes, a future full of jam hands. jam hands today, tomorrow. and the hands, and the jam, they're not just on a girl or a boy in a pharmacy. they're hands from your hands, and from his. hands the two of you made.
and maybe he can't control jam hands but he could certainly teach them--
“you were worried about jam hands, weren’t you, kiyoomi?” you ask when you hop off the counter to retrieve the results you left on the toilet seat.
hearing his name is the dramatic hook that yanks him off the stage of paranoia. paranoia however, had now become a hopeful daydream: that maybe jam hands were okay, would be okay, if they were yours and his.
"jam yesterday, and jam tomorrow—” you start, reciting the quote almost perfectly in a shrill voice, using the comedy to try and hide the disappointment on your face, disappointment you didn’t anticipate feeling.
because the test is negative.
“today isn't a jam day, omi-ko."
sakusa kiyoomi can only control what he can control. he’s always hated that about himself.
he rises from the tub and bounds over to you in two steps. the test falls right into the bin as he reaches for your hands.
he kisses you. you taste like blue raspberry.
“jam tomorrow, then?”

False Memories from My Favorite Childhood Stories
It's not uncommon for people to have false memories about movies, books, news reports. Scientists call it confabulation. When many people share the same one, it's called the Mandela Effect, after the surprising number of people who distinctly remember hearing the news that Nelson Mandela had died in the 1980s (which he didn't). Sometimes I see people misremember books and movies in ways that I know are mistakes. But just recently, I've realized that I have some confabulation of my own from childhood books and movies.
Casual racism in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland – which isn't there. When Alice thinks that she had better check the "Drink Me" bottle to make sure that it isn't marked "poison," the narrator states "...for she had read several nice little stories about children who had got burnt, and eaten up by wild beasts and other unpleasant things, all because they would not remember the simple rules their friends had taught them." But that isn't exactly what I remembered that passage saying. I wish I hadn't lost my childhood copy of the book – which I think was a facsimile of the first edition – because I could have sworn that the passage said "...for she had read several nice little stories about children who had been stolen away by g****es, and eaten up by wild beasts..." etc. (In case it's not clear, the word I've censored is the popular slur for Romani people.) When I recently reread the book and found that it said "burnt," not "stolen away by g****es," I thought that maybe this was a difference between editions of the book, since I know Lewis Carroll made revisions to the text each time it was republished in his lifetime. But though I've searched and searched online, I can't find a version of that passage with the quote I remember. The wording does vary slightly between the different editions online (i.e. "nice little stories" vs. "nice little histories," and "burnt" vs. "burned"), but not drastically. Not that I'm unhappy about that fact – on the contrary, I'm relieved that there's no casual racism in that passage after all! But I can't believe I somehow misremembered it as featuring that racist line! Is there, in fact, an edition of the book that talks about children being kidnapped by g*****s instead of being burnt? Or did I just make it up?
The fate of the ruby slippers in The Wizard of Oz. My false memory is just the opposite of the common one. Dozens of people remember that at the end, after Dorothy said "And oh, Auntie Em, there's no place like home!" either the camera panned down to reveal the ruby slippers under her bed, or else Dorothy got out of bed to reveal the ruby slippers on her feet. Of course neither of those things happen in any version of the movie, and I've never been one of the people who share those memories. But I have a different yet equally vivid false memory of my own. Until a few days ago, I was firmly convinced that during the second closeup of the ruby slippers as Dorothy tapped her heels together, just before the flashback to the house falling, the slippers disappeared from Dorothy's feet, leaving her in just her socks. I could have sworn that this was a decisive "end of the magic" moment that I remembered from countless childhood viewings of the movie. Yet I just rewatched the scene, and it doesn't happen! Maybe I somehow conflated that moment with the earlier scene in Munchkinland where the slippers disappear from the dead Witch of the East's feet. Maybe it was because I had also read the book, where the silver shoes fall off and are lost in the desert during Dorothy's flight home. But whatever the cause, the image stands out in my mind: the ruby slippers clicking together, and then suddenly vanishing, leaving only Dorothy's blue socks on her feet. I can't believe I just made that image up! Is there any place that memory might have originated from?
Mufasa's fatal crash to the ground in The Lion King. One famous case of a widely-misremembered childhood movie is Bambi. Countless people insist that when they first saw the movie, they remember seeing Bambi's mother being shot and falling to the ground onscreen. Of course this has never been the case; her death has always just been signified by an offscreen gunshot. I never made that mistake regarding Bambi. But I did make a similar mistake about the notorious death scene in the beloved "Bambi meets Hamlet in Africa," The Lion King. Until the last time I rewatched the movie, I could have sworn that after Scar threw Mufasa from the cliff and Simba cried "No!" the scene cut back to the falling Mufasa, who plunged straight toward the "camera." Then the screen abruptly went black with a loud thud. Now of course this isn't true: we don't see or hear Mufasa's crash to the ground in any capacity. But I was sure that remembered seeing the scene end in the way I just described. I think there were probably four factors involved with this faulty memory. (1) At first Mufasa does plunge straight toward the "camera," before the scene shifts to an overhead view of his fall as he screams, and then to Simba's "No!" (2) My memory might have conflated Mufasa's fall with the crash-landing of Dorothy's house in The Wizard of Oz, which is shot in exactly the same way I remembered the former. (3) When I was little, being hyper-sensitive, I always covered my eyes during the stampede scene, so naturally it left a fuzzier impression than other parts of the movie did. (4) Mufasa's death has such a powerful emotional impact, like the death of Bambi's mother, that it's only natural to misremember it as being shown more graphically than it really is.
Maybe there is an alternate universe where the above memories are all true, as some people who study the Mandela Effect think there is. Or maybe it's all just imagination.

@janeelyakiri found the incorrect quote generator... And I got sucked down a rabbit hole Alice in Wonderland style.
That being said- here are done incorrect Life with the Bone Brigade quotes! Axe and Bun edition!
~~~
Bun: Guys, my friend here is bilingual.
Axe: Yes.
Bun: Which means they like both boys and girls.
Axe: Ye- wait, what-
MC: Bun, that's not what bilingual means-
Bun: Shhh, it's okay Axe. I still love you, man.
Axe & MC: ...
Bun: bUT NOT LIKE THAT-
~~~
Bun: What are you writing?
Axe: The government wants to know what kind of weapons we have in the house. I'm letting them know it's private information.
MC, looking over Axe's shoulder: This just says 'fuck around and find out' in calligraphy.
~~~
Axe: I dare you to kiss the next person who walks into this room.
MC: Screw that, I’m not kissing any of you.
*Bun walks in*
MC: Fine, I’ll do it. Rules are rules you know.
~~~
Bun: When you work at lush and a customer comes in and bites the soap because they think it’s cheese... this happens way more frequently than you think.
Axe: If you stopped literally presenting soap as deli food this wouldn't happen.
Bun: Who goes into a bath store and thinks something covered in glitter is cheese?
MC: Who goes to the store and just takes a bite from the cheese?
~~~
MC: So, what is Bun to you?
Axe: The reason I wake up every morning.
MC: ...That’s adorable.
Bun earlier that morning, barging into Axe′s room, smacking pans together: WAKE UP WAKE UP WAKE UP WAKE UP WAKE UP!!!
Confessions
Masterlist
Wordcount: 1995
Summary: "Fili w/ quotes: 30. “It sounds plausible enough tonight, but wait until tomorrow. Wait for the common sense of the morning.” - H.G. Wells, The Time Machine 39. “After all, tomorrow is another day!” - Margaret Mitchell, Gone with the Wind 49. “I can’t go back to yesterday because I was a different person then.” - Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland Feat. Miscommunication, confessions, nearly missed chances (and more than a little bit of wine)" I want to say this was from a Fizzy writing event.
The mountain was filled with roaring laughter, off-tune song, and slurred story telling as the night wore on. To celebrate the new treaty between the elves and the dwarves, Thranduil had sent enough wine to quench the thirst of the entire mountain, for quite some time. Or, so he had thought. What he had anticipated to last a good few months, would surely be gone before the week was up. At least, with the way everyone was putting it back.
You had hardly anticipated the wine to be so potent, and at the end of the night, though you felt alright sitting, you were a bit wobbly on your feet.
You braced yourself against the bar for a moment, trying to get your bearings, before one of your close friends approached you.
“Need a hand?” He offered, the wine had had a gentler affect on him, with his higher tolerance- dwarrow were far more impressive in regards to what they could stomach, and Fili was no exception.
After a moment, you accepted his help, and he told the others he’d be bringing you back to your room.
“Good on you lad,” Bofur slurred, well further into the stash than some of the others, “‘s about time you two got together.”
He got elbowed in the ribs to quiet him down, and your escort shook his head before bringing you to the hall.
You noticed he was a bit unsteady on his feet as well, but what amazed you the most was how level headed you still felt. Normally, you hadn’t the ability to keep your mouth shut, but tonight, you were doing marvelously.
You might have been a bit overconfident in your ability to keep your thoughts to yourself, as you let your mind wander to the blond beside you. He really was handsome, you had noticed that straightaway- but why did he look so amused?
“A couple glasses of wine really loosens that tongue of yours, eh?” He asked, teasing you just a bit, “Can’t say I’m not flattered.”
“You heard that?” You asked, realizing you may not have kept your thoughts completely to yourself after all. Oh boy.
“Don’t be embarrassed.” He beamed as he assured you, “In fact, you can continue, if you’d like. I certainly don’t mind hearing it.”
You shook your head, trying to maintain some level of reason, “If I start talking, I’ll start telling you things you don’t need to know.”
“You can tell me things.” He promised, keeping an eye on you as the two of you started up the stairs, “Here, watch your step now.”
“Oh no you don’t.” You told him, focusing on the stairs, “You just want to see me make an ass of myself.”
He laughed at that, though assured you it wasn’t true, “I’ve just missed you, there’s been so much to get done.”
Your heart fluttered at his confession, “I’ve missed you too.”
By then, you had reached the top of the staircase, and continued along, in silence for a moment.
“You know, railings might be a good investment.” You pointed out, “Tell your uncle that could be his next big project.”
“I will.” He said, before switching the topic, “How have you been? I don’t think I’ve seen you for… What? Nearly two weeks now?”
“Twelve days.” You corrected, having made note of the time. You had stayed in the mountain for a chance to get even closer with him, but now you hardly ever saw him.
“What was that?” He asked, and you realized you must have said more aloud than you had intended.
“Twelve days.” You repeated, feeling your face heat up, and hoping you could blame it on the drink.
“It felt like longer.” He admitted. Had you been more levelheaded, you would’ve made note of his tone- he must’ve heard your earlier comment, but you didn’t pick up on it in your current state.
When you made it back to your room, you almost wished the walk was longer. Soon enough he’d be gone for another two weeks, leaving you to reconsider your choice to stay.
He brought you inside, and you took a seat on the edge of your bed, before looking up at him. What you would do for a chance to let him know how you felt. Now was hardly the right time, you’d be so much less eloquent than you wanted to be. You didn’t want him thinking the wine was the reason you cared so much for him.
He smiled your way, and took your coat, hanging it over the edge of the bed as you kicked your shoes off.
“I’ve really missed you Y/N.” He repeated, brushing your hair behind your ear. You had missed the significance of the action in your current state, and didn’t realize that you had rested your cheek against his hand, before he removed it and sat beside you.
You had fallen head over heels for Fili, and now he was being so considerate and helpful, it really wasn’t helping your case. If you were courting, or even married, then you could’ve leaned over and kissed the living daylights out of him. He was sitting within reach after all…
“We should get married.” You recognized your voice, but wondered where the hell that had come from. Who had authorized you to say such a bold thing, and to a prince of all people? Thanks to the wine, you thought little of it, and just waited for a reaction from him.
He rested his hand on yours for a moment, before patting it gently. He was avoiding your gaze, and you couldn’t quite read his expression, “You don’t really mean that. Let’s get you to bed.”
“I do.” You swore, “I should’ve told you a long time ago, but I never had the guts.”
He locked eyes with you for a moment, looking hopeful that there was a chance for you both. Instead, he just shook his head, moving to busy himself by turning down the sheets for you, “It seems plausible tonight, but wait until tomorrow. Wait for the common sense of the morning.”
You felt a surge of hope when he had begun, but realized quickly that he was turning you down.
“After all, tomorrow’s another day.” He said, forcing a smile as he looked your way, “Come on now, get some rest.”
Oh, couldn’t help but feel that you had undoubtedly made a terrible fool of yourself, “Fili, I-”
He silenced you as he kissed the top of your head, “When the wine has run its course, we’ll talk again.”
You felt completely and utterly rejected as he left. You climbed into bed, and tried not to feel devastated, but the one who you cared the most for had just declined your affections. All you could hope for, was that you wouldn’t remember come morning.
Fili never returned to the others, instead going off to his own room as well. He was kicking himself for how he handled the situation, he had wanted to let you know how much he cared for you for some time now, but you had built up the courage before him. The worst part was, he hadn’t known how to react to it, and made a mess out of what should’ve been a wonderful night.
He tried to fall asleep, but kept revisiting the conversation, and how your face had fallen when he tried to talk some sense into you. He should’ve handled it better.
After a particularly restless night for the two of you, the wine had left you with a pounding headache. It took most of the morning to clear out, and partway into the afternoon you were finally able to leave your room and get some food.
As you made your way through the halls, you recalled the night before, and suddenly found yourself without an appetite.
“Y/N.” Kili called, catching your attention. His demeanor changed when he saw your expression, “What happened? You looked so happy last night.”
“I can’t go back to yesterday because I was a different person then.” You told him. Now that you knew Fili didn’t feel the same, you had no reason to stay in Erebor, you had to go start packing. Though, if Kili was already here, you may as well say your goodbyes, “I’m going to miss you.”
He rose an eyebrow, and as you pulled him into a hug, he patted your back a couple of times, “Why? Are you going somewhere?”
“I’ll probably go to Dale first, figure the rest out from there.” You admitted, pulling back from him, “Maybe I’ll go visit Bilbo.”
“Bilbo? What did Fili do last night?” Kili asked, sounding genuinely worried, “He said something stupid didn’t he?”
“No, Kili, we just want different things.” You said, before admitting, “He doesn’t care for me the same way I do for him.”
Kili was at a loss for words, his brother had droned on and on about his feelings towards you, how he could’ve messed it all up in one night was beyond comprehension.
He tried to convince you to stay, but you wouldn’t listen, and went back to your room. Kili, on the other hand, broke into a sprint to try and catch his brother.
When you were back in your room, you realized you didn’t need very long at all to pack, and decided to wash up first. After you scrubbed yourself clean of any nonsense, you dressed and put your pack together.
You jumped as your door suddenly burst open, to reveal a breathless Fili.
“What are you doing-?” You began to ask, releasing the buckle you were about to clasp shut as he interrupted you.
“You can’t go.” He pleaded, “I’ve be an ass, I know, but please, don’t go.”
You shook your head, not even a little bit sure about the mixed messages he was giving you, “We’re obviously on very different pages here. If you can’t see a future with me, then I have nothing keeping me here.”
“You’re the only one I see a future with.” He said, stepping up to you, “I apologize if I made you think otherwise, but Y/N, I love you.”
You had wanted to hear him say that for so long, but in the back of your mind, you were still worried, “It didn’t seem that way last night.”
“Last night I was a fool.” He said, taking your hand in his, “I was afraid that it was only the wine speaking, and you didn’t truly feel the same. I thought if you still loved me today, then I could tell you.”
“I’ve loved you for months now.” You told him, “If that’s not enough…”
“It is, you are.” He swore, I was just too blind to see.”
You were skeptical of his sudden change of heart, but decided to give him a chance to defend himself, “You really think I should stay?”
“Yes! Absolutely.” He said, “Y/N please, you mean too much to me for me to just let you leave.”
“If I did stay,” you said hesitantly, not wanting to get your hopes up just yet, “What would we be? I’m not going to stay and be a friend, just to watch you marry some other girl.”
“Never.” He promised, as he cupped your face in his hands. He moved without hesitation, no longer afraid that you may not feel the same, as he pressed his lips to yours. You moved just as quickly, gripping the fabric of his tunic as you savored the moment you had been waiting so long for.
He pulled back for a split second, before pressing short quick kisses to your lips, “I am such a fool.”
“You can be, it’s alright though.” You teased him, “We could’ve been together months ago.”
“The greatest mistake I’ve ever made.” He swore, moving one hand to the back of your neck to deepen the kiss.
Band Name Origins: Stories Behind Band Names
New Post has been published on https://wr1tepress.com/band-name-origins-stories-behind-band-names/
Band Name Origins: Stories Behind Band Names
Did you know that the Bee Gees were named after the initials of a DJ called Bill Gates? Did you know that the real story behind the origin of the name of the rock band 10cc is much more trivial and boring than the urban legend that surrounds it? Did you ever wonder why the hell would someone choose to name his band Chumbawamba? Here you can widen your knowledge by learning about the origins or rock bands names and pop artists pseudonyms.
10cc: an urban legend claims that the band who wrote the hit Im Not in Love has chosen her name as a gesture to the average male ejaculation, which is estimated as 9cc of sperm. but, the bands name really originated in a dream the band manager, Jonathan King, had in which he was managing a band by the name of 10cc
Alice in Chains: Lane Stanley and Jerry Cantrell had intended to form a heavy metal band that will perform covers of Slayer while wearing dresses. Although there plan did not come out, the name of the band remained. Alice in Chains is a take off on Alice in Wonderland with an S and M twist. Bee Gees: The Gibb brothers first had in mind the name The Rattlesnakes as a name of their band. Later they have come up with the idea of honoring the initials of both Brothers Gibb and their close friend and one of their first supports, DJ Bill Gates, who has nothing to do with the founder of Microsoft. Chumbawamba: apparently, one of the band members had a strange dream, in which he could not decide which public toilet door he should enter since the Men and Women signs were replaced with Chumba and Wamba signs. The Doors: formerly named Psychedelic Ranger, inspired by a William Blake quote: If the doors of perception were to be cleansed every thing would appear to man as it is, infinite. Elvis Costello: was born as Declan Patrick McManus. When he had started his musical career, he adopted an alias created by a combination of Elvis Presley and Lou Costello, mainly because he represents the exact opposite of the other Elvis.
The Fall: taken from the title of a novel authored by Albert Camus.
Grateful Dead: originally named The Warlocks. The origin of the cult band final name was inspired by an old English folk tale, which themed around a traveler who is saved by the spirit of a dead person who is grateful for the travelers generosity and his willingness to pay the deads man debts in order for him to be buried.
The Happy Mondays: Shaun Rider was inspired by the happy Mondays he and the other members of the band were having as unemployed who were spending the day that follows the weekend in sleeping while the other people were off to work.
Ice T: the controversial gangsta rapper has chosen to name himself after Iceberg Slim, a famous pimp who later became an author of books that describe gangsta living. Johnny Rotten: the Sex Pistols leader was born as John Lydon. He received a stage name that was found more suitable for an anarchist punk with a set of rotten teeth.
Kraftwerk: the pioneer electronic band adopted the German translation of the term Power Station.
L. LL Cool J: James Todd Smith pseudonym is an Acronym for Ladies Love Cool James.
Marilyn Manson: the bandleader pseudonym mixes two of Americas favorite celebrities: Marilyn Monroe and Charles Manson. Other members of the band are using the pseudonyms Ginger Fish, Twiggy Ramirez and Madonna Wayne Gacy.
Nine Inch Nails: inspired by the nails that attached Jesus to the cross
The Orb: in Woody Allens Sleeper, there is a silver ball that causes people who touches it to react in strange ways. This device was called The Orb.
The Pogues: originally named Pogue Mahone, which is Kiss my Ass in Gaelic, the band shortened the name to avoid airplay censorship.
Queen: one word that catches both transvestite and royalty connotation was the perfect band name in the eyes of Freddie Mercury.
The Replacements: according to the myth, the punk rock band adapted the name after replacing a missing band in a gig, an incident that made them introduced themselves as The Replacements.
Sex Pistols: Malcolm Mclaren is responsible for the choice of the name, partly to help promote the clothes shop called Sex owned by Vivien Westwood who used to be his girlfriend at the time.
TLC: the initials of the band members nicknames T Boz, Left Eye and Chilli. It also suggests the acronym for Tender Loving Care.
UB40: the politically oriented band was named after a type of British unemployment form.
Velvet Underground: named after the title of an unknown sex book that one of the band members has found lying on the sidewalk Weezer: the band front man was nicknamed Weezer in high school since he was a geek who suffered from asthma that caused him to make wheezing sounds.
XTC: this punk band was formed in 1976 long before the usage of the drug was popular. The band had changed its original name Star Park after watching a Jimmy Durante clip in which he states: Im in ecstasy!
Yeah Yeah Yeah: according to Karen O, the inspiration to the hip band name came from the New Yorker phrase, which means something like whatever. ZZ Top: there are two versions related to the origin of the band name. According to the first one, the name of the band is a spoof on the name of the blues musician ZZ Hill. According to the second version, the name relates to a combination of two popular brands of cigarette rolling papers: Zig Zag and Tops Rolling papers.
November 4th,
I'm gonna share with you all my reactions when I first listened to midnights. I was sharing all in real time in my 🐦 account, but I just have my friends, and unfortunately they're not swifities 🫠 BUT they're listening to taylor a LOT because of me, they all know my favorite songs lmao. I hope you all have a great day🤎
💙✨ MIDNIGHTS REVIEW 💙✨
Track 1- Lavender Haze
From the track name, clearly there is a parallel between this track with our beloved Track 6 from Lover, "I Think He Knows". The bridge is very sensual, It's really nice and smooth to be heard and answers some things that the media/fans questions her. I liked.
Track 2- Maroon
Sounds a LOT like KOMH 🖤/ Clean . She said that there's no vault tracks from the other eras, but I was willing that this track was written around those 🥲 (especially bc she talks about pouring wine, reference to "Dress" and about dancing barefoot in NYC, can be ref of Cornelia Street and DWOHT) OMG F*CK the person brought CARNATIONS thinking they were roses 🥲 I'm sure It's a metaphor for being dead,bc carnations are consider funeral flowers.
Track 3- Anti-Hero
It parallels several verses of "The Archer", I heard about 3 times bc I'm in SHOCK with this song. It hurts. And also reminds me a little of "right where you left me" and "this is me trying". She knew SO MUCH leaving this song as a single. Extremely identifiable FVCK 🫥 When she's intensifying the "s" in "agrees", sounds like the hiss of a 🐍, hello reputation...
AND I LOVE the music video, SO MUCH EASTER EGGS 😰😰 blondie you're AMAZING. When she points "it's me, hi, i'm the problem it's me at tea time everybody agrees" and it parallels Alice in Wonderland, it’s genius. Especially because Alice comes in time for tea to talk to the Mad Hatter, and that was a problem. This song quotes so many fairytales, wow. I think It's a way to dissociate from the reality, that's why you're an Anti-Hero 🫠
Track 4- Snow on The Beach (ft. Lana Del Rey)
IT SOUNDS LIKE "Illicit Affairs"!!! I listened the extended version, and this song exales and smells like Lana. Absolut masterpiece. Weird but f*cking beautiful, like snow on the beach 😉
Track 5- You're On Your Own, Kid
This track is a lot relatable, feels like she knows me (I can say this about ALL her songs lol). It has SO MANY REFERENCES!!! "MAATHP", "TIWWCHNT" are examples. The fact that she was a kid delivering her demos to executives in a parking lot. The bullyings she suffered at school, the e.d. It hit's me so much, It's a beautiful sad track. Thank you darling 🥺
Track 6- Midnight Rain
This track feels purple blueish. Again I feel like "MAATHP" is referenced. It sounds similar like "Renegade" (definitely an Aaron Dessner production lmao thanks it's amazing/i love this song SO MUCH). Tay pls tell me that you're referencing "Daylight/Champagne Problems"...And I know who you're talking about hahahaha I LOVE THIS TRACK!!!!!!!
Track 7- Question...?
BLONDIE I FELT THE "Out Of The Woods" REFERENCE 🥵 This track makes so much sense, she mixes past and present, so cool. So many tracks I can make a parallel, i LOVE it!
Track 8- Vigilante Shit
It's my favorite. Tastes like victory and revenge. I felt the parallel between "I Did Something Bad" and "mad woman". It sounds like "I Know Places". It makes so much sense she's messing with me I'm in love with this track. "Lately I've been dressing for revenge/ Don't get sad, get even"
Track 9- Bejeweled ⭐️
ITS A MATCH! Our beloved "mirrorball" it's grateful for this turnaround. The music video is so perfect, I'm DEFINITELY ready for Speak Now TV✨
Track 10- Labyrinth
It reminds me a lot of "The Archer" again, as if it were a twist on the character of our darling track 5. What a delight to be able to listen to this song 💙 It hurts, of course, but it feels good. There's a million songs that remind me of this track, but are too many references for my swifitie head lmao 🤣. I know "this is me trying" and definitely labyrinth likes this song 🥹
Track 11- Karma
I laughed when I first listened to LMAO SO GOOD!!! I don't think It's necessary to talk about this track, It's self explanatory. "ME!" it's happy rn, have a sister to share the references. JOE ALWYN FIGHT WITH ME 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Track 12- Sweet Nothing 🥹
"I spy with my little tired eye" show us the pureness and youthful love of them. William Bowery I'm your fan, your songs always feels like home. It's confy, It's warming. It's a beautiful lyric track 🥺 she's expressing to us and him all her deep sensations and feelings. He is her soulmate. I can't express how I admire this song in english, even though I'm fluent. We have some words in Portuguese that unfortunately cannot be translated to the real meaning of what is this song. Wow.
Track 13- Mastermind
WOW TAYLOR!! I have NO words ENOUGH to tell you all what this song brings to THE WORLD ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The bridge simply caused me a breakdown 🫠 Sad sad sad sad sad but so relatable. I felt this punch in my whole body. When she points that he knows all along, we knew it too. You're a mastermind blondie, and he as well 😭❤️
⭐️BONUS TRACKS⭐️
(personally my favorites from the whole album)
TRACK 14- The Great War
Aaron, you knew what you're doing. IT'S SPECTACULAR!!! Imo, should be in the normal version of the album, i'm gonna call it the sister of ivy ✨ hahahaha 🤣 Amazing bonus track, so worthy to be listened, really. A f*cking beloved lyric masterpiece. Taylor, you're a superhuman😍
TRACK 15- Bigger Than The Whole Sky
F*ck f^ck f^ck f%ck WTF I'M F&CKING SOBBING RN 😭🥲 so strong, so so sad and wonderful. "this is me trying/august" girlies are lying on the floor rn. The lyrics, the production, everything about this track It's so well done.
TRACK 16- Paris
B*TCH YOU'RE referencing DEATH BY A THOUSAND CUTS????!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAA BLONDIE YOU NEED TO CALM DOWN IT'S A LOT OF EASTER EGGS JUST FOR ONE FANDOM 🥵🥵🥵🥵 PLS LISTEN TO THIS TRACK, It smells like CROISSANT AND THE BREEZE IN A LAVANDER FIELD
TRACK 17- High Infidelity
Wait...April 29...TIWWCF launched...😳😳😳😳 she's not joking. Just a couple days before THE met gala, yes, THE ONE "flashback when you met me, your buzz cut and my hair bleached" 😶‍🌫️ I'm SPEECHLESS 😶
TRACK 18- Glitch
4 A.M. GIRL I JUMPED WITH THIS TRANSITION LMAO 😭...waiT....1290 days before today = 10/21/2016 😳🫠 F*CKKKKKKKKK TAAAAAY AND JOOOOOEEE I'M PICKING THE REFERENCES FROM GORGEOUS AND READY FOR IT... HOW DOES IT FEELS TO BE A MUSE JOE ALWYN, YOU KNOW YOU WON RAWR THE MAN IS SPARKLING THE MAN IS ON FIREEEEE
TRACK 19 - Would've, Could've, Should've ⭐️❤️‍🩹💔
I have to tell, It's my favorite song from Midnights. I am a truly speak now girlie, and I'm 19 and relate to this song. It's so personal and raw, I felt her despite and regret and PAIN. I cry so hard with this track. It feels like there's something stuck on my throat 🫥. It's definitely the most sad/desperate/ traumatic song/bridge she's ever done. I love this song, but it hurts too much. If I see this man one day, he's gonna beg me for forgive (and taylor, our special person). I'm sending you hugs and lots of love dear Taylor, really.
TRACK 20- Dear Reader ❣️
It's the perfect last track. A whole story. A whole album. The end (but not really, 'cause life's still there). She closed the album with a work of ART. Really, truly sad. But beautiful. It seems like a continuation of the speech she gave at NYU, it makes sense. It was very worth being able to listen and enjoy Midnights. I appreciate and thank you (Tay) with my whole soul for writing this song. It's a real and delicious hug. You, my dearest Taylor Swift, are a RARE person. You have a pure heart and an enlightened soul.
With all the Love,
Joana (@joanainthegardensofbabylon)
Movies I watched this Week #111 (Year 3/Week 7):
3 More young Robert De Niro - 2 accompanied by Ennio Morricone:
🍿 I finally found a good free copy of Bertolucci’s Novecento (”1900"), the full 5+ hours version, which I haven’t seen since it premiered. What an old-fashioned film-watching joy!
Retelling the history of Italy’s juggling the two opposing forces of fascism and communism as told through the lives of two men, one a land owner’s son and the other, still handsome peasant Gérard Depardieu. With lots of homoerotic subtext, De Nero frontal nudity, and other complex class-struggle subtexts. And with Ennio Morricone’s sweeping score and Vittorio Storaro’s spectacular canvases. 9/10.
🍿 The mission, one of the Vatican “15 recommended films about religion”. About a Spanish slave trader who turned Jesuit missionary in 1750′s Paraguay, full of search for redemption, Penance and struggles with faith. Exotic-Porn, shot beautifully out in the jungle. Produced during David Puttnam’s successful reign of the time. Featuring Liam Neeson and Goodfellas "Morrie" as the heavy. But like most films from the 1980′s, it lost all its luster for me. 4/10.
🍿 Greetings, Brian De Palma’s 2nd film, the first American film to receive an X rating and De Nero’s first major role. This ‘how to dodge the Vietnam war draft’ satire was so amateurish, I couldn’t stand more than 15 minutes of it.
🍿
All That Breathes, a new award-winning and Oscar-nominated Hindi language documentary. It poetically tells of 2 unassuming Indian brothers who rescue and treat injured black kite birds. 100% Rotten Tomato rating. The trailer.
🍿
2 more by Luca Guadagnino:
🍿 Bones and all, love among the cannibals. A vulnerable love story of two young, pretty outcasts who share an affinity for flesh eating. I loved his style in ‘A bigger splash’, ‘I am love’, and ‘Call me by your name’, but this horror-comedy was hollow and unnecessary. 3/10.
🍿 Guadagnino’s second feature, Melissa P. A semi-pornographic ‘erotic drama’ about a 15-year-old girl’s journey of sexual discoveries. It opens with her masturbating in her room, and soon it moves on to her giving a blow-job to some jerk, being forced to participate in a threesome, gangbangs and in a bit of S&M. All in the name of her right to explore her desires, and told mostly from an off-putting (gay?) male gaze point of view. 4/10.
🍿
Alice's Wonderland, the first Walt Disney short film, released exactly 100 years ago, in 1923, a seminal year for Hollywood and for movie making.
🍿
The creatures, my 9th by Agnès Varda, an experimental fantasy pairing Catherine Deneuve with Michel Piccoli, a year before ‘Belle de Jour’. He’s a science-fiction writer, and she’s his wife who went mute after a car accident. The line between reality and the writer’s vision for his book are blurred, but the effort feels dated and forced. Too artsy. 3/10
🍿
Life after death, a slight drama-comedy from Finland about an emotionally-stunted widower who wants to move on as soon as his wife dies, against his son’s need to mourn for her longer. 3/10
🍿
Vesper, my first film from Lithuania (In English, unfortunately). A somehow different post-apocalyptic Sci-fi story about a 13-year-old bio-hacker girl who lives in the forest with her paralyzed father. Organic tech and biological magic. 4/10.
🍿
“... Is that dress is what you are going to wear in the concentration camp?...”
First watch: Ernst Lubitsch’s 1942 Nazi farce To be or not to be. Making fun of Hitler the Hollywood way, by showing Gestapo officers as lecherous buffoons, Ha ha ha. Carole Lombard’s last film, and with young, good-looking Robert Stack. To paraphrase another quote from the comedy: What Lubitsch did to Shakespeare here, the Nazis were doing to Poland. 2/10
🍿
2 With Elliott Gould:
🍿 I was planning to follow-up with the Mel Brooks’ 1983 remake, but the original left such a bad taste in my mouth, that instead I randomly started a documentary in which Brooks stars - the irresistible The Automat. What a joyful surprise! A super-nostalgic love letter to the Horn & Hardart restaurant chain which thrived in NYC and Philadelphia in the first half of the last century. Absolutely enchanting from start to finish. With a delightful cover song, written and performed by Mel Brooks. (Photo Above). 8/10.
🍿 American History X, a very disappointing first watch. What may have been a courageous and nuanced analysis of contemporary racial hatred, rehabilitation and tolerance, seems didactic and quaint 25 years later - just like the shocking Nazi swastika tattoos. 1998 extremism is 2023 slice of life. 3/10.
🍿
A hard day, a Korean thriller about a young, corrupt policeman who runs over a guy while drunk driving, and then, trying to cover the killing, buries the body in the coffin of his mother who had died the same day. Standard, unbelievable execution about the always-corrupt Korean Police force. 3/10
🍿
First watch: Cult classic Myra Breckinridge, “one of the worst films ever made” and the mess that brought Mae West out of her 27-year retirement. A confused early ‘70′s look at sexual roles, sex change operations, female-on-male anal rape, femdom and Hollywood. A complete waste of talent. 2/10.
RIP, Raquel Welch!
🍿
The concept sounds intriguing: A lowly Irish ‘Extra’ playing an English soldier on the set of Stanley Kubrick’s ‘Barry Lyndon’ falls in love with an assistant director. The trailer looked dope. But the short Kubrick by candlelight was undeveloped and underwhelming. 2/10.
🍿
Marc Maron X 2:
🍿 Not being very familiar with comedian Marc Maron, but he opened his latest stand up From Bleak to Dark with this line: I don’t want to be negative, but I don’t think anything’s ever gonna gets better again, which captured my sentiment so perfectly, I was immediately hooked. Genial observations, well-delivered!
🍿 Since he‘s also an accomplished actor, I looked for something he played in. Unfortunately, I picked Get a Job (2016), because it also starred my crush Anna Kendrick (and dozens of other names, Bryan Cranston, John Cho, Nicholas Braun). But this cringy sit-com style dud was so listless, I could only last 25 minutes, before adding it to my “Too-Horrible-Couldn’t Finish-List”. 1/10.
🍿
I felt compelled to watch Game Night again, for the 3rd (!) time, and I’m not sure why. The relationship between Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams is so cute, and the story develops organically and perfectly. It’s such a fun and infectious action-comedy!
🍿
Some YouTuber Watched Every Oscar Best Picture Winner, so we don’t have to.
🍿
Lavatory Lovestory, a cute Oscar-nominated Russian Short about a lonely, romantic lady who works at a public toilet, a subject that is told not too often on film.
🍿
So this week I saw 2 great movies: Bertolucci’s '1900', the documentary ‘The Automat’, one repeat offender ‘Game night’ for the 4th time, plus Marc Maron’s stand-up ‘From Bleak to dark’. That’s a fairly typical number of good ones per week.
But I came to realize that most of the many other movies I watch every week are simply terrible. Under normal circumstances, and if I wasn’t on a mission (which I’m not sure yet what it is), I would never spend time on them.
Maybe I’ll try one week to only watch ‘Great’ movies, see how it feels to go through only the 'Best of the best'.
🍿
