It does make me angry how badly most Tommy-centric fics fuck up women characters when he has genuinely interesting dynamics with them in canon. Niki described Tommy as being "jealous" of her when she got the first lady position, but they were close friends during the whole of L'Manberg. They were the only two who made a concerted effort to kill Schlatt. They were the most vocally angry at Techno after the execution. They were the only two who were genuinely RIDE or DIE with Wilbur throughout Pogotopia, both being very aware about how far he had gone. Their bond was weakened by their seperation during Manberg, broken after Tommy returned from Exile and became the only strike-able target Niki could put the blame for her grief, anger, and abandonment on. They are VERY similar in their compassion for other people, the main difference between them is that Tommy's was always obscured by his kind of aggressive attitude and Niki's was suppressed in an attempt to fight back against the world.

There's less to say for his and Puffy's relationship but it is still. Wrong. All the time. Two things usually ignored are the fact that Tommy thinks Puffy is cool and admires her to an extent and Puffy is just not equipped to actually be a good therapist for him. She is both heavily biased and untrained to deal with the amount of shit that he's gone through that she doesn't have experience with

jack opens up to c!tommy about what he went through: ignored, brushed off, “you’re just jack manifold.”

jack opens up to c!niki about tommy: niki’s healing and doesn’t want to hurt tommy anymore, “who says we were in the right with tommy?”, didn’t look for him when she said she’d come find him.

jack opens up to tommy, again: completely ignored and brushed off like a joke, concerns about the hotel completely overshadow him despite him telling everything to his face

jack opens up to c!hannah about EVERYTHING: “don’t you know the trauma he’s been through?”, “you’re going overboard”.

tell us about your angsty manburg quackity headcanons king

I've had a few of these for a while, but I will gladly share :]

c!Quackity often used to fall asleep at his desk. Sometimes, he would wake up and find that somebody had put a blanket over his shoulders, or set out a new cup of coffee. Other times, he would awake to the sound of shouting, or something being dropped loudly on the desk.

His salary was abysmal (almost non-existent, if c!Schlatt's own words in LN1 are anything to go by), so c!Quackity had to scramble to find an affordable new suit in time for the festival. At the time, he was proud of his thrifting skills. He hasn't worn it again since Plan Ass went down the shitter.

He became insecure and hyper-conscious of the way he dresses after being made fun of by the same guy who didn't pay him enough to afford new clothes.

The two did go on a few other dates, none of which went much better than their first. When they finally did get married, it was a very quick, private, legalistic affair. c!Quackity had wanted a more lavish wedding, but at the time he was happy to be married at all.

He and c!Schlatt used to jokingly threaten each other with violence. These threats got more detailed over time, until c!Q became uncomfortable and had to ask him to stop. Three guesses whether he did.

His diet was terrible, even before the famine in Manberg became severe. He once lived solely off Taco Bell for a whole week, then spent the next three days taking in almost nothing but liquids.

c!Quackity and c!Niki were never extremely close, but they used to help each other out in small ways. c!Q would return little things that c!Schlatt had stolen, and c!Niki would quietly encourage him to eat. He was the only member of the cabinet that she would willingly sell to, but over time even he was shut out as the bakery struggled and his promises to help were ineffective.

A more lighthearted one to break up the sad! He wrote a lot of songs in his free time, including a few about c!Schlatt. One or two of them were even nice enough to share with him.

Slightly angstier take on the above: c!Q sometimes sang to cheer himself up after hard days. When c!Tubbo was tired or upset about c!Schlatt's treatment, they would make insulting songs together.

c!Schlatt talked often about how much he disliked the White House. In response, c!Quackity would redecorate and rearrange furniture to make the interior more appealing. These changes went unnoticed.

c!Quackity started working out alone and after everyone had gone to bed; unfortunately, he had a hard time figuring out the gym equipment.

Once, he got stuck in a workout machine that was too heavy and spent half an hour trying to wiggle his way out. c!Schlatt walked in on him and, instead of helping, laughed and started taking pictures.

c!Quackity came to work high on more than one occassion. His boss, being drunk, never noticed.

He developed a habit of repeating himself constantly, even if he knows the other person is listening (or if they've walked away), because their silence makes him anxious.

He is quickly upset to the point of shutting down, however, by people making fun of the way he speaks.

He still couldn't cry in front of others for a very, very long time.

i think my issue with c.niki is the fact that she’s been rewarded for taking her trauma out on a innocent child and that it’s been framed by the narrative as “just part of her process”.

I've developed such a visceral negative response to hearing the word 'girlboss' used to describe any female character thanks to being a dsmp fan in 2020 and 2021. c!Niki was made far less interesting in fanwork for a time because of this shit, all because some people couldn't handle letting a woman experiencing a messy, unsanitized recovery arc.

i think people struggle so much with taking c!niki’s “villain” arc or negative emotions seriously and instead making it girlboss/silly/etc is because people have a hard time taking women’s emotions seriously unless they’re presenting as being simple. so many people don’t understand that characters who are women can have deeply complex and contradictory emotions because they don’t bother to think about them as much or with the same complexity as they do their male counterparts

Obviously your family was very well known

Wherever you went you were quickly recognised as the "dark freaks" "the outcasts"

If it wasn't already obvious by your lack of color in your clothing and just all around weird nature you gave off

But other then that you were known in the SMP as "The Seer"

See, like your mother and your sister, you had been given the power to see into the past or future with a simple touch

But, unlike them, you tend to have both positive and negative sights

"Owl" is what you liked to call your powers

You keep a balance between good and bad things, which makes you able to see much more then your mother or sister could

Upon moving into the SMP, the rumors of your powerful psychic abilities had drowned the town in a matter of hours

And many people approached your black and white castle for a talk

You only had 3 people give you very very negative visions: Dream, Wilbur and Bad.

In Dream's visions you got to see little moments of the man himself destroying the place and people he cherished and cared for the most, driven by a greed to have control over the people going against him;

In Wilbur's you saw the destructions of his masterpiece, L'manburg. And you also got to meet the many different versions to come of the man;

In Bad's you were tied up by red vines, as you gazed upon a growing red egg; it's aura almost putting you into a weird trance. You, unfortunately, got to also get a glipse at Skeppy's unfortunate future

You obviously had to lie to these three about what you saw. Who knows what would happened if you even mentioned a word about it. But you could tell that they were suspicious of you

George and Foolish both had a familiar figure in their future. You just told them that it was a positive sign, even if you didn't the get a chance to glipse at the familiar man;

The two appreciated your time ad thanked you for beinf honest

The rest of your visions weren't good but weren't totally bad

Sapnap, Quackity and Karl's definitely worried you, seeing at how close they were. You definitely kept your mouth quiet with them, but did advice Sapnap to keep an eye on the other two for safety;

Philza and Techno seemed to have a pretty smooth life, but only after the end of an era. They obviously weren't happy about whats to come, but for ready nonetheless

Niki and Eret had a pretty challenging journey ahead of them, so you just encouraged them to not give up. They appreciated the encouragement;

Punz and Sam on the other hand had pretty worrisome futures, from what you got to see, so you advised them to do what they think will be the right thing to do when the time comes. Very vague, but they definitely kept it in mind

Out of everyone you got very close to Karl.

The fact that you knew about his little time travelling secret was the rwason, but also cause you two seemed to weirdly hit it off

He was the colorful crayons to your black and white drawing

Niki and Foolish were also others who you got close to. They basically adopted you under their wing and decided you should be friends, you didn't really get a choice

Even with the amout of knowledge you had about the people in this town, you were pretty happy to be with them

And obviously help them with what their future held

Something you didn't know how to handle tho, was a certain blondes and brunette's future...

It getting more difficult with every vision you got of them

Y’know there’s Many Reasons why I hate c!Techno. Many reasons that needn’t be aired out here. But I think the main thing that makes him so awful, so annoying, so goddamn insidious and downright repulsive, is that no matter how hard I try to ignore him, he will always end up forcing himself into the stories of the characters that I Actually Enjoy And Somewhat Care About.

Like see I don’t like c!Niki. Never have. She’s just very meh to me and not very interesting. She’s involved in lore connected to my favs, but her presence and impact there is so minor and brief that I can easily ignore her and forget she exists.

But c!Techno? C!Technoblade Bitch Cunt Fucker Blood God Bastard Piggy Piece of Rancid Ass Fuck?

HE’S EVERYWHERE! HE IS IN EVERY PLOT OF EVERY CHARACTER I EVEN MILDLY ENJOY. AND HE’S NEVER GOOD! HE’S NEVER FUN OR INTERESTING OR INVOLVED IN THE THEMES BEYOND TAKING THE THEMES AND STAMPING ALL OVER THEM.

I can’t escape him! I can’t ignore him! No matter the character, He’s Always There. C!Tommy was framed as a villain because of Bedrock Bros. C!Ranboo was even more pathetic(and not in a fun way) due to his involvement with the Syndicate, and now c!Tubbo’s gone from one of the most complex & nuanced characters to nothing more than a shallow bratty girlboss because this filthy pig cannot help but infect every story he comes into contact with with the most horrid brand of Edgelord Mary Sue-ness that I have ever seen. 

He’s everywhere. He’s horrible. He’s a stain on the lore and I hate that I have to deal with him whenever lore for my favs come up. God I want him dead PLEASE just kill him

my issue with the “c!wilbur is escaping the narrative” is in three parts

1: wilbur is not deadpool, he’s a mentally ill person. this distinction is important because the “narrative” that he needs to escape is not the plot of the dream smp, it’s his own black and white thinking that’s lead to him railroading both himself and other people into villain and hero roles.

he’s gone out of his way to make up with as many characters as possible, even characters that he never would have forgiven before his death (such as eret), but he did what he thought he was Supposed To Do for his redemption arc. he created a New narrative of what he was supposed to do and followed it to the letter.

and moreover, in doing so he apologized for things that weren’t his fault, he forgave people without having his trauma caused by them actually Acknowledged, he threatened to kill himself to try to protect tommy from dream And Meant It just months ago (he was willing to kill himself as many times as it took according to cc!wilbur).

Obviously he’s going to get away from many of the people that remind him of his past, and I’m sure that Will help with some of his negative self thinking. but tommy said it best, “the person you need to learn how to forgive is yourself.” we didn’t watch wilbur learn how to love himself, we didn’t watch wilbur learn how to see himself as a normal person, we didn’t watch wilbur forgive himself. we watched wilbur learn how to say Sorry. 

there is nothing about wilbur escaping His Own Narrative, because he’s taking that with him wherever he goes. because he’s still mentally ill and he’s still traumatized and he still hasn’t forgiven himself. he’s not Incapable of healing, he absolutely Can grow and change off screen. but that’s exactly it. his ending is that he Might heal off screen and we’ll just have to imagine it.

2: “wilbur escaped the narrative” in the context of the narrative he’s escaping from being the dream smp itself is not satisfying as an answer because it’s plainly describing the exact problem: there will be no conclusions to major story beats because this was done before his narrative was actually Over.

tubbo and wilbur’s conclusion Will Always Be that tubbo forgot the part where wilbur caused his husband to die right in front of him after tubbo deliberately didn’t forgive him because he didn’t trust wilbur and still hurt from the memory of the death He’d suffered while working under wilbur. he’ll never meet ranboo again after ranboo is revived, which means he’ll never get to apologize for taking one of ranboo’s lives, for playing a part in ranboo being trapped in limbo for like 1000 years. niki will never get to reintroduce wilbur into her life after her downspiral was connected to feeling Abandoned and wilbur will never find out that she’d had a villain arc because of him that lead to her trying to, you know, Murder His Brother. we lost out on a quackity resolution because of a Scheduling Issue.

wilbur never confronted his father for doomsday, for killing him, for dehumanizing ghostbur, for hurting his friends and family in his absence. things that were all set up and then dropped to the wayside in favor of pretending that nothing was wrong and that wilbur trusts his advice and judgement.

wilbur won’t be there when dream inevitably starts torturing tommy again, because whatever solution he made (temporary as it was always going to be) was predicated on him Being There To Be That Bargaining Chip.

none of his relationships will ever move forwards on screen again, and that’s a big problem when all of them were left off in places where they Needed to be developed to be emotionally satisfying. “wilbur escaped from the narrative,” in this context, means “wilbur’s story will never finish being told.”

he didn’t subvert the narrative, he got cancelled in the middle of production.

3: wilbur escaping the narrative, escaping from the dream smp, pushes that unstated boundary that traps the other characters in this spot.

if wilbur can literally just leave whenever that raises the question of why nobody else has ever left. why Wilbur didn’t just leave before, if there was never anything keeping them there in the first place.

the characters all stay in this location because they Have to stay for there to be a story. dream didn’t just kick the l’manbergians off the server when he didn’t like that they made a new country because doing so would mean that there’s no story.

why did vikk and lazar stay on the server to get tortured if they could just leave. why did fundy move Very Far Away on the server to self isolate if he could just leave. why did tubbo build snowchester instead of try to convince tommy and ranboo to leave the server. why does jack stay on the server when he feels completely disconnected from everybody else. why did tommy never try to escape off of the server during exile if the whole point was that he wasn’t allowed to go anywhere that’d been touched On The Server. why- why- why- why-

fundy moving Far Away means that he has a narrative reason for pulling away from the rest of the server while A: meaning he’s still technically Available for future lore if he ever wants to participate and B: He Doesn’t Make People Question The Inherent Rules Of The Narrative.

you Can come up with explanations for why x character didn’t make that choice in y situation, but there were was a flesh eating egg that made people do autocannibalism. there’s a serial killer with a revival book and the want to torture on the loose. there was enough tnt dropped on a town to match the blast of a nuclear bomb but Straight Down into the earth’s crust. there’s an evil god that intentionally torments people, up to and including in their afterlife if they die on this server.
