ever since that incident had occurred, general jing yuan had decided to enforce security measures around the residential and city parts of xianzhou luofu. no woman should go through the terrors that you've been through, and never shall you ever suffer through those traumatizing events ever again.
the one thing that was definitely different though was how you stood up for yourself. you never once did, in fear that your father would scold you... or really, it was your brain that was so accustomed to fear, you were deathly afraid of standing up to it.
but you finally did. and you didn't know why—but the reason for it all was the man that stood in front of you several times, carrying a basket of fresh fruit and a small cutting knife in his free hand.
doctor's orders—you remained in the infirmary room for a couple of weeks now, and life had been strangely... well, unsurprisingly enough, peaceful. you were taken care of, and your husband had frequented the infirmary to visit you every day. he brought you a fresh plate of neatly cut fruit, some stories to tell, and he often brought mimi (sometimes the nurse hated how much she shed in the room) to purr and snuggle against you.
a day didn't pass without jing yuan visiting you, and you definitely expected his presence at least twice a day... or thrice, even.
...until today.
"huh? you're... you're going somewhere?" your eyes avert towards the general, confusion evident as he looked at you with his usual, loving and soft gaze. "where to? are... will you be busy?"
the marriage between you and jing yuan had definitely enabled some sort of separation anxiety behavior from you. he had always been by your side no matter what, especially during your days of recovering in the infirmary room.
"yes, y/n," he reached out to your countenance, his index finger brushing against your bangs, moving them behind your ear, "you will always be my priority. however, today must be different, for i must tend to my personal duties. i assure you that i will return safely, and the nurses will make sure that your needs are met during my absence."
...gone? was this a lie? a lie to get rid of you? no, no. stop, don't think like that. if he wanted to get rid of you, he would've done so already. you shake your head from your negative thoughts, fighting every bit of doubt and anxiety that plagued your mind.
"...okay." you nod, your gaze lowering to your bare hands, eyeing a piece of freshly cut strawberry in the palm of your hand, "please be safe... please come back home safely."
that was several hours ago.
to be specific, almost an entire day had passed since jing yuan left to his unknown expedition. for whatever reason, you didn't know. lieutenant yan qing wasn't around either, so you could only assume that his right hand man had accompanied him.
now, you were alone in your infirmary, sitting on your bed as you stared out into the moonlight. you could see the aurum alley from here, watching as the streets were bustling with joy, drunkards and happy children. you thought back to when jing yuan had taken you there, too. you had fun, up until you were abducted that same night.
nothing but your thoughts accompanied you, and you definitely were... tense. tense, anxious, nervous... and worried, even if you tried not to be worried.
you had missed jing yuan, and every time you had heard distant footsteps outside your door, you'd always expect and hope that it belonged to the military general. unfortunately, it wasn't exactly him, and it would be mere nurses who wandered around outside, even entering your room which gave you the false hope that your husband returned.
... but where did he go? he didn't tell you where, and wasn't being specific either. his personal... affairs? what did he mean by that?
you sighed silently to yourself as you got up from your bed, knowing you weren't supposed to be getting up. you grit your teeth, bearing through the pain as you wanted to know more information about his whereabouts... why he was being secretive. why he suddenly disappeared...
you knew you shouldn't be doing this but also... you missed the fresh breath of air. so you decided to sneak out, rip the medical monitor lines taped to your body and make your way outside whilst sneaking around the nurses and avoiding their gazes.
you were in pain, but you were losing your mind as you were stuck in that room for gods know how long? the moment you got out, you felt a fresh wave of freedom brushing over you... the same feeling where you left your home for the first time to move towards the sanctum.
you looked towards the sky, eyeing at the moon as it gazed upon you with his full glory, as though expecting you to return to it's brightening embrace. you inhale, taking in the fresh scent of air, missing the distant scent of herbal tea and nature that twirled within the air...
... ah, how you miss jing yuan. you wondered how he was doing...
"are you sure you want to do this?" yan qing frowned. "i mean, i'm not questioning your commands at all, sir. but it's just... do you suspect the l/n family is associated with the xianzhou black market of some kind?"
jing yuan nodded slowly. "notice the patterns of the past abductions. it's becoming quite obvious, even especially after what had happened with y/n. all women, all near her age, and all... hailing from troublesome families."
yan qing pondered for a moment, placing his knuckles underneath his chin as he closed his eyes.
"...general. what theories do you have then? for the reasoning of her abduction?"
"i'm assuming it'd have to do something with the disciples of sanctus medicus." jing yuan pursed his lips. "although, y/n's family did not have any history pertaining to... well, the cult itself. the father seemed too arrogant for any religious beliefs whatsoever, only wanting power."
"he didn't seem he was interested in eternal life, but money instead." yan qing added, looking towards the household that belonged to the l/n family.
it was a massive structure, built off of wealth itself. there were several floors to it, and each room was probably filled with a grand amount of fortune. both yan qing and jing yuan stood before the structure, with a singular cloud knight that stood behind the two.
"does miss y/n know... that we're here?" yan qing looked towards his leader, who responded with a shake of his head.
"i do not want her to be troubled by her family anymore... i doubt 'family' is a fitting term for what they are to her. i believe this part of her deserves to be torn away from who she is. after all, if these abductions are related to her father, then we might as well try to find evidence and stop them before something else occurs."
yan qing nodded. "yes, general."
the lieutenant glances back to the cloud knight, nodding towards him. "as we planned before, you will be coming with me. while the general speaks to the family."
the cloud knight saluted, "yes sir!"
when jing yuan, yan qing and the cloud knight entered the building, they were greeted by the servants of the l/n family. the head of the l/n family, y/n's father, had shown a false façade of a wonderful and kind father. he approaches the general, holding his hands with glee as yan qing and the cloud knight discreetly separated from the general, leaving him alone with the family.
"ah, general jing yuan! i am honored to see you again," y/n's father said as he held the man's hands, shaking them firmly, "why, i heard about the recent injury that my daughter has been inflicted by. that is such terrible news, i'm saddened by the fact i am unable to see my precious daughter, as i have been troubled by my work and..."
as he went off, jing yuan's kind smile never left him. he read through this man easily — what a liar.
"ah, it's alright that you can't visit her, my father," jing yuan speaks in a formal voice, bowing his head with his kind smile, "i understand your duties, for i am the general of xianzhou luofu, after all. i can relate to your priorities and the tasks you must face." jing yuan laughed with your father. "i apologize for showing up while you are busy with your tasks."
"oh, no no no! not at all," your father shook his head, "why, you actually came in perfect timing! i had prepared some lavender tea. my dearest wife had ordered some a while back and they actually came today."
jing yuan nodded. "i see. i would love to have some."
while jing yuan was occupied with your father, yan qing and the cloud knight were handling their own mission. they tracked down where the office was that belonged to your father while hiding from the wandering servants and your relatives before reaching to the door of the office. they entered, greeted by the smell of fresh, lavender tea.
"search his cabinets," yan qing said, "i'll search his desk."
"yes, sir."
yan qing proceeded make his way towards the office desk, looking through his paperwork. some of it wasn't even relevant to the mission as some paperwork was related to money, something about hiring new servants and...
"...?"
his eyes laid upon a letter that caught his eye, terms of it catching his attention immediately.
┈┈┈
...head of the l/n family. we will accept your beautiful daughter as a vessel to our beloved yaoshi. please do the following for us:
the vessel of yaoshi must be lifeless, unfortunately. yaoshi must not accompany a body with a soul already residing within. the body must be beheaded, or dead.
we look forward to your delivery,
disciples of the sanctus medicus.
┈┈┈
"lieutenant, sir! i have found something." the cloud knight speaks up, holding up several documents. each one were well hidden in between a bookshelf, and each one were labeled with "disciples of sanctus medicus".
yan qing pocketed the letter he found before approaching the cloud knight, grabbing the papers he held before looking towards his ally's discovery. more information about y/n... her weight, height, age, birthday... there was a look of disgust on yan qing's face as he pocketed it.
"... disgusting." he murmured. "we'll take these and report back to the general. let's leave, quickly."
"yes, sir!"
"it was so nice seeing you, jing yuan! please, visit us again." y/n's mother stated as she embraced her husband's arm, watching as the general waved goodbye, leaving on his own.
it didn't take long for the general to return to his headquarters, where he was greeted by the discovery of the connection of yaoshi's cult and y/n.
his hand was placed underneath his chin, eyes gazing upon each piece of evidence found.
"...sir." yan qing said to jing yuan. "you're hiding this from lady y/n... yes?"
"that is the plan. there is too much trauma she has already faced. we don't need to torment her more by bringing up her past... and its discoveries."
"even so," the lieutenant frowned, "i feel as if this is information that she needs to hear."
"...hm. for now, we hide this from her. later on when we arrest her father, we'll reveal the evidence and... tell her."
"yes, general."

Weekly Roundup: Prompts
FGO
Gudako want to find something in the room until she was attacked by a naked and drunk Saberlot.
can I request something like Faker getting summoned to Chaldea after the case files collab extra story? If it gets written I’ll give a thousand thanks to the author.
smut, Y-Yandere yan qing (NSFW please) 👉👈😳
Mandrcardo x Yan Qing! VA jokes and Kiribaku type of crackship.
Takeru x Aesc! Can be platonic, romantic or sexual, i just think the idea is neat
Summer BB x Summer Kiara! They're both Moon Cancer High Servants. BB has Pele and Nyarlathotep while Kiara has Shen and Yaobikuni (the mermaids).
Ritsuka has a bisexual harem (both guys and girls)
Ryouma and Oryou. That’s it, that’s the prompt. (Joking aside, I just really want to anything with Ryouma and Oryou. As lighthearted or as dark as the writer/artists want. If I get cavities from the sweetness or feel nauseous from the depravity, it doesn’t matter to me. As long as it’s Ryouma and Oryou.)
Crossover
Walter White from Breaking Bad takes part in the 4th Fuyuki Grail War instead of Ryuunosuke, summoning Paracelsus
Yiffy Lalonde-Harley is summoned into Chaldea (as a Foreigner, on account of possibly having First Guardian hax) and proceeds to be a terrible influence on Abby.
Fate Stay Night x Pokemon SV prompt: Basically FSN cast living in Paldea region. The pairings: Nemona x Shirou Emiya and Arven x Rin Tohsaka.
Fate Extra x BNHA crossover prompt: Hakunon x Shinsou. Hakuno and the Extra/Extra CCC cast (the students) are in the same class as Shinsou, Class 1-C.
Kohaku and Hisui are now the maids of the Todoroki family, how would they take care of Todoroki Shouto?

Hi! I hadn't the opportunity to read during Christmas, but I am catching up, and I hope you won't mind if I send some questions on the way. In the hunter's house, Tripitaka eats rice mixed with millet (or sorghum?) and Indian corn, which is a form of maize according to Wikipedia. I know sweet potato became a staple crop in the early Qing dynasty, but I was impressed at maize showing up this early! Might Wu mean another grain?
I agree that the descriptions of the landscape were very nice :^) Mo Yan writes similarly about the village in which his novel Red Sorghum takes place. You can really sense the tender fondness of the author in such cases!
This is what I found about maize:
Tumblr media
From this paper.
The thing is... The story is set in the Tang Dynasty, and the author was alive when it was first introduced, so he must have known that it was a foreign grain...
However, I found this other paper just know as I was writing the previous paragraph. I'm going to copy the findings under the cut:
In the Chinese herbal book Bencao pinhui jingyao (or formerly spelled as Pents'ao p'inhui chingyao) that was compiled and presented to the emperor Xiao Zong of the Ming Dynasty in 1505, there is a clear il- lustration of maize, Zea mays. It appears in a drawing under the caption of Yiyi-ren (Job's Tears)or Coix lachryma-jobi var. ma-yuen, or C. ma-yuen. The plant on the right is unmistakably maize. [...]
The book lay dormant, blanketed by a thick coat of dust, in the Imperial Treasure house in Beijing until the collapse of the Qing Dynasty in 1912 and was never exposed to anyone outside the Forbidden Palace. No scholarly dissertation has ever touched on the year of 1505 in which this remarkable book was compiled. Its surprising maize illustration inevitably raises the question of whether maize had existed in China before Columbus, that is, earlier than 1492. [...]
A recent study by this author suggests an even earlier date of record. There is an amazingly early mention of maize in the poem Youwu zashu, written by Xie Yingfan in Jiangnan at the very beginning of the Ming Dynasty (1368). Xie wrote, ``(yellow) gold is like yumi and like pearl.'' Here yumi can only refer to maize. Literally, yu means jade and mi means rice [...]
Tumblr media
The paper doesn't give any explanation to what kind of corn they ate, but if Wu said specifically "indian corn", it must have been from the Americas and he commited an anachronism.
This was a very unsatisfactory research :(

Incense burner given to Wei Qing by Emperor Wu of Han 2nd C. BCE. Shaanxi History Museum.
"Emperor Wu began to trust governing officials who were harsh in their punishment, believing that such harshness would be the most effective method to maintain social order and so placing these officials in power. For example, one such official, Yi Zong (义纵), became the governor of the Commandery of Dingxiang (part of modern Hohhot, Inner Mongolia) and executed 200 prisoners, even though they had not committed capital crimes; he then executed their friends who happened to have been visiting. In 122 BC, Liu An, the Prince of Huainan (a previously trusted adviser of Emperor Wu, and closely enough related to have imperial pretensions) and his brother Liu Ci (刘赐), the Prince of Hengshan, were accused of plotting treason. They committed suicide; their families and many alleged co-conspirators were executed. Similar action was taken against the other vassal Princes, and by the end of the reign, all the vassal kingdoms had been political and militarily disabled.
A famous wrongful execution happened in 117 BC, when the minister of agriculture Yan Yi (颜异), was falsely accused of committing a crime, though he was actually targeted because he had previously offended the emperor by opposing a plan to effectively extort double tributes out of princes and marquesses. Yan was executed for "internal defamation" of the emperor, and this caused the officials to be fearful and willing to flatter the emperor.
Starting about 113 BC, Emperor Wu began to display further signs of abusing his power. He began to incessantly tour the commanderies, initially nearby Chang'an, but later extending to much farther places, worshipping the various Gods on the way, perhaps again in search of immortality. He also had a succession of magicians whom he honoured with great things. In one case, he even made one a marquess and married his daughter, the Eldest Princess Wei, to him; that magician, Luan Da, was later exposed as a fraud and executed. Emperor Wu's expenditures on these tours and magical adventures put a great strain on the national treasury and caused difficulties on the locales that he visited, twice causing the governors of commanderies to commit suicide after they were unable to supply the emperor's entire train.
About 100 BC, due to the heavy taxation and military burdens imposed by Emperor Wu's incessant military campaigns and luxurious spending, there were many peasant revolts throughout the empire. Emperor Wu issued an edict that was intended to suppress the peasant revolts: he made officials whose commanderies saw unsuppressed peasant revolts liable with their lives. However, this edict had the exact opposite effect, since it became impossible to suppress all of the revolts, officials would merely cover up the existence of the revolts. He executed many people who made fake coins.
In 96 BC, a series of witchcraft persecutions began. Emperor Wu, who was paranoid over a nightmare of being whipped by tiny stick-wielding puppets and a sighting of a traceless assassin (possibly a hallucination), ordered extensive investigations with harsh punishments. Large numbers of people, many of them high officials, were accused of witchcraft and executed, usually along with their entire clans. The first trial began with Empress Wei Zifu's elder brother-in-law Gongsun He (公孫賀, the Prime Minister at the time) and his son Gongsun Jingsheng (公孫敬聲, also an imperial official, but arrested under corruption charges), quickly leading to the execution of their entire clan. Also caught in this disaster were Crown Prince Ju's two elder sisters Princess Yangshi (陽石公主, who was said to have a romantic relationship with her cousin Gongsun Jingsheng) and Princess Zhuyi (諸邑公主), as well as his cousin Wei Kang (衛伉, the eldest son of the deceased general Wei Qing), who were all accused of witchcraft and executed in 91 BC. These witchcraft persecutions later became intertwined in succession struggles and erupted into a major catastrophe."
"Notwithstanding the sketchy and scattered depictions in the Shiji 史 記 and the Hanshu 漢書 , this event played a significant role in the later years of Wudi’s reign. Many scholars even consider it a turning point of the Middle Western Han (202 BCE–8 CE) court policy. It cost tens of thousands of lives, including that of the Empress, the Heir Apparent, two princesses, two Chancellors, and dozens of civil officials and military officers, among hundreds of thousands of others." (Zhang Hanmo, Witchcraft and Witch-hunting in the Later Years of Emperor Wu’s Reign: A Reappraisal)
"In 94 BC, Emperor Wu's youngest son Liu Fuling was born to a favorite concubine of his, Lady Gouyi (Consort Zhao). Emperor Wu was ecstatic in having a child at such an advanced age (62 years old), and because Consort Zhao purportedly had a pregnancy that lasted 14 months (the same as the mythical Emperor Yao), he named Consort Zhao's palace gate "Gate of Yao's mother." This led to speculation that the emperor, due to his favor of Consort Zhao and Prince Fuling, wanted to make Liu Fuling the crown prince instead. While there was no evidence that he actually intended to do anything as such, over the next few years, conspiracies against Crown Prince Ju and his mother Empress Wei arose that were inspired by such rumors.
When he left the capital, the Emperor would delegate authority to Crown Prince Ju. Eventually, however, the two began to have disagreements over policy, with Ju favoring leniency and Wu's advisers (harsh and sometimes corrupt officials) urging the opposite. After Wei Qing's death in 106 BC and Gongsun He's execution, Prince Ju had no strong allies left in the government. The other officials then began to publicly defame and plot against him. Meanwhile, Emperor Wu was becoming more and more isolated, spending time with young concubines, often remaining unavailable to Ju or Wei.
Conspirators against Prince Ju included Jiang Chong (江充), the newly appointed head of secret intelligence, who had once had a run-in with Ju after arresting one of his assistants for improper use of an imperial right of way. Another conspirator was Su Wen (蘇文), chief eunuch in charge of caring for imperial concubines, who had previously made false accusations against Ju, claiming he was joyful over Wu's illness and had an adulterous relationship with one of the junior concubines.
Jiang and others made many accusations of witchcraft against important people in the Han court. Jiang and Su decided to use witchcraft as the excuse to move against Prince Ju himself. With approval from Emperor Wu who was then at the Ganquan Palace, Jiang searched through various palaces, ostensibly for witchcraft items, eventually reaching Prince Ju's and Empress Wei's palace. While completely trashing the palaces up with intensive digging, he secretly planted witchery dolls and pieces of cloth with mysterious writings. He then announced that he had found the items there during the search. Prince Ju was shocked, knowing that he was framed.
Prince Ju fled to Hu County (湖縣, in modern Sanmenxia, Henan) and took refuge in the home of a poor peasant family. Knowing that their good-hearted hosts could never afford the daily expenditure of so many people, the Prince sought help from an old friend who lived nearby. However, this move exposed their whereabouts, and he was soon tracked down by local officials eager for a reward. Surrounded by troops and seeing no chance of escape, the Prince hung himself. His two sons and the family housing them died with him after the government soldiers eventually broke into the yard and killed everyone. The two local officials who led the raid, Zhang Fuchang (張富昌) and Li Shou (李寿), wasted no time in taking the Prince's body to Chang'an to claim a reward from the emperor. Emperor Wu, although greatly saddened to hear the death of his son, had to keep his promise and rewarded the officials.
Even after Jiang Chong and Prince Ju both died, the witchhunt continued and combined with Wei Zifu's jealousy led to the execution of the Li family on accounts of treason. General Li Guangli caused unnecessary losses with his military incompetence. In 90 BC, while Li was assigned to a campaign against Xiongnu, a eunuch named Guo Rang (郭穰) exposed how Li and his political ally, Prime Minister Liu Qumao, were conspiring to use witchcraft on Emperor Wu. Liu and his family were immediately arrested and later executed.
By this time, Emperor Wu realized that the witchcraft accusations were often false accusations, especially in relation to the crown prince rebellion. In 92 BC, when Tian Qianqiu, then the superintendent of Emperor Gao's temple, wrote a report claiming that Emperor Gao told him in a dream that Prince Ju should have only been whipped at most, not killed, Emperor Wu had a revelation about what had led to his son's rebellion. He had Su burned and Jiang's family executed. He also made Tian prime minister. Although he claimed to miss Prince Ju greatly (he even built a palace and an altar for his deceased son as a sign of grief and regret), he did not at this time rectify the situation where Prince Ju's only surviving progeny, Liu Bingyi, languished in prison as a child.
With the political scene greatly changed, Emperor Wu publicly apologized to the whole nation about his past policy mistakes, a gesture known to history as the Repenting Edict of Luntai (輪台悔詔)."

@tenkoseiensei said (inbox):
would it make you feel better if i said that you had a face that was good for stealing
Tumblr media
HE HAS TO THINK about this a little bit. On one hand -- terrible, on another; flattering. Hmm...which one should he feel the strongest in this case? It was hard to say. His feelings were quite mixed on the whole affair. ❝It is passable.❞ He gave Yan Qing a C- if anything.

"Constantine? Here, I have something for you."
The moment he turns around, she immediately shoves a small box into his hands, and quickly holds her own behind her back. Her smile is bright and cheerful. "It's your birthday, right? So, here, please take this."
If he opens the box, he'll find a small white cloth, neatly folded into a square. In one corner are the initials "C XI" sewn in Tyrian purple. In the opposing corner is a broad-petaled geranium, sewn in a softer shade of purple.
"Mr. Vlad helped me with it. I was able to make the initials. But... I'm afraid my hands weren't made for sewing beyond that. So Mr. Vlad had to make the flower. It's probably obvious when you look at them closely. Please don't tell him I said this, but he is truly a master at it."
Her smile softens and her voice grows quiet. "...I'm sorry. I'm not smart enough to really play those strategy games you like. Or to even know what sort of gift to get you when it comes to them. Upon thinking about it further, I'm not even sure what you would need a handkerchief for. Maybe to clean your glasses or... something.
"...But I hope you can still find some use for it. Happy birthday, Constantine." (for Constantine)
"Master?"
Oh.
Constantine blinked, caught off guard by the small box shoved into his hands. There wasn't even a moment of hesitation once he'd turned around, Cana somehow moving so quickly he could have sworn she was actually one of the Hassans in disguise. Were it not, of course, for her mannerisms. No one in Chaldea could quite imitate her behavior so perfectly.
Not even Yan Qing, despite his best efforts.
Still, he smiled, touched that his birthday had been remembered by a second person today.
"A gift for me? You really needn't have gone through all the trouble." He chuckled as he opened the box, smile growing fond at the sight of the handkerchief. "You say that you received help with this like that's a bad thing, but that makes it special. Embroidery like this..." a finger traced the flower petals before his initials, "takes a great deal of talent, and the thought is meaningful. So there's no need to seem so bashful over it."
The last emperor sighed softly, amused despite himself.
She really did worry overmuch, didn't she?
"I will most certainly find a use for it, in fact I daresay this will make an excellent cloth for keeping my glasses clean no matter the surroundings! Which is to say... Thank you, truly."
