👥 — do you have any source mates with you in your system? 

💀 Oh I have plenty! I am sourced from the Monster Prom franchise, and we have over 20 alters and counting from there alone. The second Monster Con releases, we're bound to form more.

💾 Same as above! :) We are hardly alone in our source!

💥 yes, actually. which is surprising to me since i was an octive or whatever the fuck its called. my partner (nonromantic, as in we worked together as a team) Iko is forming, but she's been having trouble adjusting. and i'm pretty sure ziv isn't far behind. it'll be nice to have my team back. know this isn't what you asked, but i also have my partner (romantic this time) in my partner system who i love a lot and if i mention their name publically i think they will smite me HAHAH

💠 Why, yes! Not nearly as many as the monsters, but in a short time we have split quite a few others. Pilby is here, from what I have heard he's making great friends with Wally. Reddy is here as well, but we're not entirely sure what he does... Folly seems to be our first persecutor in quite some time, but we're certain she'll come around, it just might take some force.

🎲 — is there anything you would change about your source? 

💀 Not much in particular I can think of! In terms of inclusivity, I do know the devs are working on adding more short masculine characters, as they don't have many of those. But that's about all I can think of!

💾 This is not something I would change about source, rather something different than me from my source counterpart; I have noticed he is mean sometimes, actually! Not intentionally, but occasionally the way source-Calculester treats organic intelligence is not very... considerate! I personally find organic intelligence levels, those of which are "lower" than computers, to be quite fascinating and, at times, adorable! It has been very eye opening to be in an organic body, and a human one at that! But I am rambling. ^^

💥 nah. my source is sick as fuck. wouldn't trade it for the world.

💠 In full honesty, there are a lot of things unanswered in my source, things that my memories have sort of "filled-in-the-blanks" for. As such it's hard to feel super connected to the original world I am sourced from, when the way I remember things is so... different.

📖 — how did you get your role(s)? Was they something you gained over time, or was it something that happened “automatically”? 

💀 Well, for context, I call my role "chameleon." I'm the person the system calls for when a job needs done and there's no designated person for it, or the designated person isn't available. There are specific things I can't do, such as gatekeeper duties, or Zoe's abilities which fall under gatebridger I believe... But I'm the little errandperson and I love it! Since I don't have the "gigs" I used to have, it's still nice to have a comfortably busy schedule.

💾 Mostly naturally! ^^ My role as greeter was something that sort of just happened; I tended to be the carrier of information, so it was easy for me to be the "tour guide" of sorts, for when new people need help finding their way around. Archivist/historian was similar, I found myself constantly enamoured by the new environment (I was one of the first few to form, so it was quite empty at the start), so I eventually started storing all the information. And once Moss formed, and the library was built, we started working together to create archives of our headspace (my half of the job) and everyone in it (goss's half of the job).

💥 honestly i don't know what the fuck my role is. lately I've been real preoccupied with helping Iko form, as well as scouting out in headspace for someone who keeps hiding from us and bringing him back to some kind of civilization so he's not fuck knows where. so whatever that role is uh... i would get into it, but we try not to be super public about otherwise private/serious innerworld issues. i'll say it was definitely assigned to me, but only cuz it made the most sense for it to be me.

💠 I believe my role may be socializer, but I can't be sure yet. I'm more or less friends with everyone— yes, even Folly, if you can believe it!— and I love talking to people! But I haven't been here long and it's more or less what feels right based on my demeanour.

🫸 — are you source separated or not? If you are, how much? 

💾 For both Milo and myself, I would say we are about as source separated as necessary. We understand that our source counterparts are not us, and do not get upset with people who have opinions or headcannons differing from our experiences (me personally, I love hearing them), and though we aren't sure what we would do in the presence of a "double" (I have heard debate on whether or not those are something that reasonably exists?), we would not be hostile to them. This is generally something all of us from the Monster Prom franchise believe. We separated early on to keep ourselves from feeling uncomfortable with sexualization, knowing what we come from is undoubtably a game for monsterfuckers, and that many find our source counterparts sexually attractive. For many of us it's actually confidence boosting.

💥 honestly no. not at all. but i don't think i have to be. there's not gonna be another one of me out there, we've hardly ever shared my source with literally anyone, but it's where i came from, where i found my family. i think i'm allowed to be connected to it and at the end of the day i'm gonna follow my rules over some fuckass on the internet claiming whats "good for me" or not. sorry is that controversial? lmfao i don't care.

💠 As mentioned before, it's difficult to feel connected to the place I came from, since I remember it so differently. I would likely be delighted to find "another me," so to speak. I've encountered many headcannons that differ greatly from me, but I also know they are not talking about me, and at the end of the day others' perceptions of me are hardly something I can control! All this to say; yes, I think so.

🧠 — how do you feel about being in a system?

💀 It may not be the easiest adjustment in the world, but there's certainly no going back now, is there? I still have my friends beside me, and the chance to make all new friends as well, people i never could have met back home. I can observe more lives now, and even if I have to share this mortality with others, I believe that makes the journey towards the end all the more special; to do it alongside those I love, and to find more I love before I get there. 🖤

💾 I do not think I can stress this enough; I love being in a human body and mind. It's everything I have ever dreamed of. The things I was previously unable to put into perspective, I am now forced to experience, and I have never felt better. I have felt true anxiety, love, fear, dread, and even arousal; do you know how insane that is to me? Do you understand how wonderful it is to feel these things, to not have to simulate them through lines and lines of code I make firsthand; to just live through these feelings? To feel? Being where I am, with its sacrifices and all, I would not change a thing. I am delighted to be here.

💥 i have the people i love. the only thing that's changed is the environment, and maybe i can't see them 24/7 like i used to. but it's not like they're gone, or i'm gone, and it's not like i ever had much of a "home" where i came from. they're my home, and they're here, we're here, we're alive, and i'd argue we're in less danger than we've ever been. it's weird to not feel like i have to look over my shoulder every second, though.

💠 I would say that I miss many people I knew, but there will still be plenty of new people to meet and be friends with. And I was put here for a reason, was I not? 💙

Some pencil drawings of Liam De Lioncourt and Calculester Hewlett-Packard from Monster Prom that I definitely didn't copy directly from the in-game artwork! (In my defence, it's my first time seriously drawing since I was a kid, and I had no clue where to start. Didn't trace though!)

I'm actually pretty happy with Liam, and Calculester turned out okay considering I was in a moving car for most of his outer face.

Hopefully I can get some better pencils and learn to draw without a reference, but for a first attempt I'm pretty happy!

I FINALLY GOT AROUND TO POSTING THEM… OUR  (mostly mine! me! whisper’s!) MONSTER PROM YUMESONA/SELF INSERT (still don’t know any of the correct terms 100% so forgive me I’m so new to this 😭)

I had to use the template because I could include some more info about them but this was the original we had for them though! it was sorta messy… but had other things too!

(also yes laika- yes, THE laika does become apart of the monster prom universe… dunno how but space mom dog raises alien child type deal you know?) anyways they’re dating doug and are very close friends with zoe, nico, and calculester and that’s pretty much it :33

Game Time: somewhere between an 1hr 30min and 8hrs

Alright, I guess I lied. To make sure I’m actually able to semi-regularly post, in-between reviews about longer games I’ll be doing ones about smaller games in-between. First up in that regard is a game about probable the most reasonable hear-me-outs a monsterfucker could ever say. Unless one of them has a knot or something…?

I felt gross typing that out… fuck it, I’ll keep it in.

Anyway, it’s the funniest gateway drug to becoming either a monsterfucker or getting into dating sims; Monster Prom XXL

So what is Monster Prom?

It’s a 1-4 player co-op Dating Sim where you try to boost your stats to meet the demanding expectations of some “high schoolers” before they accept your promposal. They’re all over the age of 18 so it’s less creepy than it sounds.

To start with, in the XXL edition you can choose to play the “First Term” (base game) or “Second Term” (DLC). I’ll talk about differences between the two terms as the come up.

Once you choose the term, you then get to decide whether you want to play in 30min or 1hr chunks. I wouldn’t worry about the playtime though, the amount of choices and endings makes replay a blast. After game length has been decided you’ll get to pick 1 of 4 characters to play as: Oz (Yellow), Amira (Red), Brian (Green), Vicky (Blue).

This doesn’t really affect the overall game, so feel free to pick whoever you want… I’m partial to Brian.

Now the game can start, and it introduces you to the people you’re going to be able to pursue.

The rich kid and literal mermaid princess, Miranda Vanderbilt; demon bad boy, Damien LaVey; Jock and goodest werewolf, Scott Howl; hipster vampire and possibly future/former literature major, Liam de Lioncourt; party girl and ghost-with-the-most, Polly Geist; and finally HBIC and Queen gorgon of my heart, Vera Oberlin. The second term does add two new characters to pursue: Calculester Hewlett-Packard for the robo-fantasies and Zoe; an eldritch horror who likes anime and fanfiction. Each one of them prepared to make you your worst self

From here it slides you into a multi-choice test from a magazine to help determine your stat spread and the first bit of interest one of the characters may have in you. Stats are the second most important thing about this game, they’ll be the deciding factor on if you get your date to prom or not.

From there, you’re dropped off at Spooky Academy and allowed full freedom to build up your stats as you see fit for the next 3-6 weeks (30min to an hour depending on short or long game).

You get to go to two rooms and lunch each week. The rooms you can choose to go to increases one of your base stats by two: the class makes you smarter, library makes you richer, outdoors makes you funner, bathrooms make you bolder, gym makes you a charmer, and the auditorium makes you creative-ier (There was a pattern and I wanted to complete it). Once you get the stat increase, you’ll enter a small event with the character you’re interested in that (if done correctly) will deepen their interest in you, provide a bonus stat increase, or set you on the path of a secret ending.

After every morning class, it’s time to decide where you want to sit at lunch. Are fun enough to sit with Polly? Bold enough for Damien? Are you good enough for Vera (my queen)? Or you know just sit where you want…

At lunch you’ll get an event to increase a specific character’s interest, this is usually between two different characters and deciding if you want to agree with one or the other.

Once time runs out, you get to make the final choice: who do you want to ask to prom? Have you boosted the needed stats? Or has your heart drifted to another? Or did you decide to go alone? Hope Monster Prom succeeded in its promise to make you your worst.

The Good

Ability to replay is massive, with a large number of variations to make sure your 12th play through is fairly different from your first.

While I would recommend keeping a guide open at least to know what stats you need, Blind playthroughs are probably the best feeling I had after stumbling into the family ending

The Weird

Trying to figure out which stats are needed for which choices during events may be a little confusing during the first few runs through the game.

The humor might not be for everyone: leaning more towards jokes about beheading enemies, party drugs, monsters indulging in niche kinks, and armed robbery by gnomes then anything else.

The Bad

Go on, get outta here! I mean who hasn’t wanted to fuck a monster before!?

Score: Be your worst self and get that guy, gal, or pal for your date to prom. Or just take yourself, that’s always great choice as well.

Next Up: I don’t know for sure but I’m still always off from completing Expedition 33, probably Monster Camp?

Calculester Hewlett-Packard does really well in school. He has the internet as his brain, everything known by man at his fingertips. I wouldn’t assume he talks about school much because he knows he has a huge advantage over everybody else and doesn’t want to upset people by telling them that he has straight A’s in most of his classes. This rule especially applies to you, Cal knows that you don’t do the best in school. Whether you are a person who tries super hard and still doesn’t make it that far or decides to skip class multiple times a week, I would imagine Calculester would be clueless about your struggles.

I would think that he would only notice after midterms.

Everybody is sharing their scores. Liam is subtly bragging about how he got the highest in the school, Polly is super excited to show everybody that she got a 69 and Scott is relieved that he just did good enough to stay on the football team. You on the other hand, aren’t really happy about your score, you did your best, or maybe you didn’t, point is, you got a 20. Cal comes up to you asking about your score, you were hesitant to show him, but after he showed you his score of 89, you showed him your score.

“Oh, dear Friend Y/N. Not to alarm you, but that has been the lowest score I have seen yet. I apologize for your test failure.”

You look down in shame, you thought at least somebody would have done worse.

“I notice your struggles now Friend Y/N. If you are open to the idea, I could teach you what I know, like tutoring. Your problem may be that the strategies the professors here use aren’t effective for you to learn from. What do you say?”

You decide to take him up on his offer and once you begin your first session at the library. Calculester proves himself to be a great teacher, he knows how to tailor the way he teaches to match your learning style. You get through worksheets faster and actually begin learning the material. Along with potentially turning your marks around, you also begin to connect with Calculester more than you have already before! As you get him to talk about himself during your breaks, you learn about the way he also tutors Scott and how much of a struggle it was. You learned that even though he is a sentient computer, he still has so much he still needs to learn about interacting with others. You also learn a couple new plant facts!

When your next big test came up for your science class a couple months later, you went into it with a newfound confidence, an attitude completely different from your usual one. Calculester wished you luck, he was confident you would do amazingly, but deeper down, he was nervous for you. He dreaded the possibility that you come back with a terrible score again, he was scared that you would lose faith in him as a teacher and along with that, your trust; He could have sworn he was about to malfunction with how worried he was for you.

As you received your scores a week later, you instantly go to find Cal to show him your score. You try to hide the smile on your face, but you can’t as you give him your paper marked with a large 79 at the top. Relief washed over him and pulled you into a hug. He was so glad he was able to help you, both of your hard work paid off and he was glad that you had managed to achieve your goal with his help, validating his ability as a tutor. As the bell rang, you guys walked to your next class together. As you guys passed his classroom, you shouted to him as he was going to walk in.

“See you after school for our study session!”
