Chavela Vargas ❤️‍🔥 Born on April 17, 1919, Chavela Vargas was a Costa Rican-Mexican singer, known to challenge gender roles through her Ranchera music and presentation, often dressing in “men’s” clothing & singing songs originally meant for men to sing to woman and refusing to change the song’s pronouns. ❤️‍🩹 Chavela publically came out at the age of 81 - it’s never too late. There's phenomenal reason he is the namesake of #lax international terminal. His community coalitions changed the city and paved the way for President Obama's victory. He drained a very dirty swamp for real and overthrew a racist and corrupt police regime which Darryl Gates was determined to keep going. He made his mark and improved Los Angeles forever making it a true economic player in a way it had never been before...He initiated businesses sponsoring the olympics instead of tax paying citizens...He was for the People, all people...especially young people...He visited every part of the city all of the time so the residents could see who he was as a person Beyond being a politician...
