So a neat little thing Good Omens did for the promo for s2 was create some character playlist.

Very quickly though it was discovered that each and every one of them contained a hidden clue word. By taking the first letter of the first word of the song a word related to the character would emerge. For the two examples below the words were “Ineffable” and “Tempting”.

Now this technique is called Acrostic,

Acrostic - a composition usually in verse in which sets of letters (such as the initial or final letters of the lines) taken in order form a word or phrase or a regular sequence of letters of the alphabet

it’s a technique mostly seen in poems to contain hidden words, often the authors name.

but I wouldn’t be bringing this back up if it wasn’t for nothing and that’s because we see this technique in the show as well.

When Jim is really embodying his role as Assistant Bookseller he takes it upon himself to reorganize the books by the first letter of the first word of the first sentence - sounds familiar.

Except he’s doing alphabetically not to contain a hidden word you say? 

Well hold on to that real quick while I point out another clue Jimbriel says,

“There will come a tempest, and darkness, and great storms. And the dead will leave their graves and walk the earth once more. And there will be great lamentations."

Well now that I brought that quote back to your attention we are just going to focus on one particular word, Lamentations.

because what if I told you that the first four poems in the Book of Lamentations are written in an acrostic style.

Not just any style either but where each poetic verse begins with a letter of the Hebrew Alphabet. 

Now the Book of Lamentations is separated into five poems from different pov’s about the destruction of Jerusalem in 587 B.C. by the Babylonians.

The organization and rigid structure to the first four poems was really meant to contrast from the grief and disorder the people were going through. Structure that the last poem loses. Hm Interesting.

(we are not going to be looking into what this book is about I am just pointing out structure similarities here)

Expect this not the only way this structure can be used.

Acrostic structure’s are also often used as a mnemonic device. This is a learning technique that helps with memory retrieval or retention by associating things with something easier to remember, like say trigger words.

So then is it really a surprise that Jim, our Amnesiac Archangel, keeps using this structure subconsciously?

hunger strikes are eating disorders promo is a discourse that needs to end NOW. students in brown, princeton, mcgill and many many other places are hungerstriking for Palestine. there were hunger strikers in ALL provinces & territories in Canada on a rotating hunger strike. A graduate student at my alma mater declared a hunger strike, beginning on the evening of Feb.16. Her strike continued through Feb.20 — the day that the Lieutenant Governor delivered a speech from the throne at the province Legislature.

additionally, hunger strikes as civil disobedience has a history and it is an honour to be part of that. i'm indian and india has a history of hunger strikes in the independence movement. hunger strikes are also one way in which political prisoners have long asserted autonomy over their bodies. i'm gonna need white folks on this website to read a damn book.

To be honest I don't think they believe that hunger strikes are eating disorder promotion because it's such a nonsensical claim, they just want to find a reason to yell at someone they don't like doing something better than them.

But I agree, even in Palestine prisons, they're doing hunger strikes... unless you're calling prisoners who have no autonomy over their own bodies "harmful" and "dangerous"? It's insulting and honestly not even worth addressing.

What Happened to Trin? aka Paying Attention to My Favorite Straight Boy

Friends. Romans. Country men. 

I have a confession. 

Yesterday I reblogged a Shadow gifset of Josh cuddling Nai in the middle of the night after returning from his evening of smoking in the woods with Dan. In that reblog, I wrote the tag “Josh is my favorite straight boy in the show”. I showered praise upon him for being secure enough in his own sexuality to cuddle with the Known Queer. But I am concerned I may have been mistaken. 

I was chatting with @khathastrophe about some Shadow theories and she sent me a screen shot of a conversation she had had with @brazilian-whalien52 about her theories around Josh. 

Now, I personally do not think that Trin had a crush on Josh, unless they are intentionally obfuscating the context around the two conversations that Trin had with Joe where he did pretty much everything but explicitly state his feelings for Joe. And I hadn’t been thinking about Josh in relation to drugs, because yeah, he smoked weed, but if you couldn’t tell already, I have been hyperfocused on trying to unravel the One Armed Man thread and he is the only one I could remember having explicit ties to narcotics. 

BUT! I had already been working my way through a re-watch of Episodes 1-7 to see if there was any new information I could glean from the show now that I had better knowledge of all the characters and their relationships to one another. And tonight, I was already planning on watching Episodes 5-7, so I said “you know what? I have been 0% suspicious of Josh the entire way through, but this show is steeped in mystery and it would be irresponsible of me no to pay attention to the character that I write off…after all, in a mystery it’s always the inconspicuous ones,” 

And thus began my Josh!focused Rewatch of Episodes 5-7 (shout out to @so-much-yet-to-learn for bullying me about this, thank you for keeping me humble friend <3). 

Some things I noticed in Episode 5:

Anan was running against Trin for student body president 

When Trin is speaking in to the megaphone about wanting to change the bathrooms, Josh is in the crowd of students listening, but he does not participate in the chants everyone else is saying. And the second the Head Master appears, he is running off before he can really be registered as in attendance of this gathering. 

Josh was out of the room when Joe saw Trin’s ghost, he returns after Trin’s ghost disappears, and Josh has left the auditorium when Trin’s ghost reappears and Nai sees him following after Joe. 

Trin’s medical records state that he has bipolar disorder which can cause him to have hallucinations, he was off his medication, and he was using narcotics to treat his symptoms 

It is later revealed that Trin got a medical check up after his arm injury, where it was discovered that he had consumed marijuana. 

All in all there isn’t much to go off of here, expect that Josh seems rather non-committal to Trin’s policy changes, and he does not want to be seen in the company of unruly students. 

Episode 6, however, is where it starts getting interesting for me, because Episode 6 is where Josh invites Dan out for a little smoke sesh.  

Now, I will admit, at the time of my initial watch, most of the conversation between Dan and Josh whizzed right on past me, obviously the only reason he had called Dan out there was to ask if he liked Cha-aim and to showboat a little bit. But on this watch through, thinking about Trin and Josh and drugs, the conversation hit much different, and it warranted a theory. 

The Build Up

Dan asks Josh where he got the weed from, and Josh tells him he got it from a man named Bancha, an alumnus of the school who is a witch doctor. (now that I think about it, that is probably who this person is from the promos for Ep 8-14 (to your question @slayerkitty): 

ANYWAY, Josh tells Dan that Bancha is a hermit who lives near the woods, and is a witch doctor that can treat mental illnesses. He asks Dan if he’s been having trouble sleeping and upon hearing Dan confirm his sleeping issues, tells Dan that Bancha could totally help him get rid of his sleeping problems. 

So why did this start ringing alarm bells for me this time through? Because a) I was watching Josh with more scrutiny these episodes, b) I’ve been paying a probably unhealthy amount of attention to arms in Shadow over the last few weeks and c) I remembered more details about Trin. 

The Puzzle Pieces 

When Trin’s parents come storming in to Brother Anurak’s office pissed the fuck off because their sons medical records got leaked to the press, Brother Anurak mentions to them that Trin about a year ago (which is around the time Trin disappeared), Trin was treated in a hospital for an injury to his arm. 

We open Episode 1 of Shadow with Trin running through the forest, with his left arm bandaged up. 

Brother Anurak also tells Trin’s parents that he had weed in his system when he got that treatment. (When I heard this at first I brushed it off because it felt like between the mention of bipolar, hallucinations, and narcotics use, adding the weed on top was just a few too many things to try to discredit any potential intel Trin might have had and to distance the school more from his disappearance). 

Josh is the only person we have seen with weed (so far).  

Trin was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, and did not like the medication he was on. He wanted to feel “normal” and to get off his medication, which we are told through a flashback conversation between Trin and Master Joe in the theater. We also learn that Trin is going somewhere, he wants to give Master Joe a pen of his to hold on to while he is away and tells Joe, “when I come back and I’m rid of this disease, I will give you your answer” [side note: Joe does not take Trin’s pen, yet he has it in his desk in 1999, so he had to get it back from Trin somehow]

In short, Trin wants to be cured of his bipolar disorder and this Banchan guy that Josh mentioned is a witch doctor that can treat mental illness. 

The Theory 

So with these things in mind, that Josh was in a lot of the flashback scenes with Trin, that Trin had smoked weed at some point before his disappearance, wanted to be rid of his mental illness, had an injured arm, and was running through the woods when we first are introduced to him, I came up with a theory. 

Josh played an active role in Trin’s disappearance.

With the crumbs they have presented to us so far, my theory is that at the beginning of Episode 1 we are seeing Trin escaping the witch doctor that Josh has convinced Trin to go see. Trin had an injured arm at the beginning of Episode 1, and Brother Anurak mentions an arm injury, so I’d have to imagine they are the same injury. Which means that Trin had probably smoked weed with Josh like Dan had smoked weed with Josh. I can imagine that Trin asked the same question about where Josh got his drugs from, and that Josh gave the same answer. I can imagine Josh potentially knowing about Trin’s medical diagnoses, or at least observing in part Trin’s own experience with hallucinations and relying on that to help convince Trin to go see the witch doctor. 

I can see Josh getting closer to Trin, close enough to get Trin comfortable with him, close enough to get Trin to trust him. I can see Josh and Trin sneaking out to the edge of the woods to smoke, and how that might make it easier to get Trin alone, away from prying eyes, and more comfortable with being in the forest at night. I can see Josh either walking Trin straight to the witch doctor’s door, or telling Trin how to get there. I can imagine the witch doctor trying to do something to “cure” Trin, whether that be an exorcism, a poisoning, an attempted murder, or something else entirely, and Trin managing to escape. Which would explain why we see him running through the woods, because as Josh said, Bancha lives right near the woods. 

I see some things repeating themselves in the promo for the second half of the season, namely Dan having his left arm bandaged the same way that Trin’s was at the beginning of the show and running through the woods looking behind him scared the same was Trin was at the beginning of the show.

Do I think Josh is alone in all of this? No. If he is involved in this at all, I literally have no gauge or understanding of how complicit and aware of what he is doing Josh is. If Josh did play a role in Trin’s disappearance, is he sticking so close to Nai because he feels guilty? Or if my theory does hold true and Josh is pulling Dan aside for conversations and smoke sessions, is he intentionally setting something up?

Josh seems really comfortable and at ease with being physically affectionate and flirty with Nai, despite the potential to be subjected to homophobia, yet he also thinks theater is gay and tells Dan not to join because people will think he is a fag (which, I believe is the closest translation of “toot” to English, fruitcake is certainly not it). 

When Trin was getting beaten up by Anan, Josh just puts his Walkman radio on and ignores the entire fight. Anan and Josh both say Trin is dead (and to be fair, if it were me and a student at my high school went missing a full year before, I would probably also assume they had died). 

Oh! And another thing, one of the drawings in Dan's vision of the One Armed Man was a camera, you know who is associated with cameras?

I think @brazilian-whalien52 made a great point in the conversation I had with her: “Shadow seems like the type of drama everybody had a little hand in. Not an individual blame, but a look through society and the roles we play that affect others,” 

All of which is to say, I unfortunately, will be withholding granting Josh “favorite straight boy” status in Shadow until the narrative proves my theory wrong.

FOOL's MATE Master Post

What is "FOOL's MATE"?

FOOL's MATE will be a documentary about Kayano Mikoto from MILGRAM. The goal of FOOL's MATE is to discus all of the theories and dive into all of the aspects of his character.

MILGRAM (ミルグラム) is an ongoing interactive music project by DECO*27 and Takuya Yamanaka that was first established in April 2020. MILGRAM is a mysterious, magical prison that houses 10 prisoners who have all committed a murder and it’s the job the guard to determine if their crimes are forgivable. Mikoto, the 9th prisoner, has Dissociative Identity Disorder. This means that he has multiple personalities/identities called “Alters”. Because of this, he has the most complex and confusing story out of all the prisoners. No one knows who truly committed "his" murder.

Why am I doing this?

I'm currently getting my Bachelor's in Digital Media Production and in a few terms, I'll be having a documentary class. I thought I'd get a head start on pre-production. I'm also making this as something for my portfolio.

Notes

The research document is sorta like a jumping off point for multiple other things like the script and a shot list. Because I'm basing my script off of this, it's sorta wordy and there are some jokes (one's an inside joke).

So far in terms of filming, I'm planning on having a scene where I go to an actual psychic to get their opinion on Mikoto's tarot reading in MeMe. There will also be a continuous scene that's going to be sorta inspired by Mystery Files, so me presenting this shit to my friends like an insane person.

I hope we get info on Mars technology (is it a new energy? Or is it just different tech?) and why IS Juno doing all this? is Juno Mars' last hope? Or is Mars station so sheltered and rule strict that earth seems like scary chaos? Or does Juno just have... anxiety. The way this is presented, it feels like they made Juno have an anxiety disorder to feel 'relatable' without giving us story to make it feel like an authentic representation of a condition... feels hollow, token. Maybe that person did try to say more about the lore but couldn't so that part is a retake? Idk. Very odd.

On a positive note, I thought the hover explanation was cute, being that she works like old retro alien invasion shooters, hopping up and down rows. I also feel like her blaster does fit what they aimed for, more so medical as well as fitting the retro scifi single blaster look.

If they had said "Oh Reyes is into fashion(Halloween event confirmed he makes his own costumes, is into design) and the bejeweled tombs matched with 'judging souls in the afterlife' fit Reaper's 'grim reaper' theme, so that's why we chose this mythic for Reaper," I would have been like "oh, okay."

But they litterally went "oh anubis is the god of death? Reaper lol."

Mind you, they messed up Hades as Pharah in greek mythos bp because they gave Hades a red and black firey volcanic color scheme (that's Hephaestus, not Hades) like a Christian 'gates to hell' type deal. That's not what Greek mythos Hades is at ALL. Hades is rivers (like water!!!) of souls, and the spiritual underworld, not the Christian hellfire. Cerberus theme instead of Hades maybe could fit the Helix guard aspect for Pharah, but a FLYING character for the god of the underworld??? Hades Pharah is what you get without doing any research. (And don't get me started on the ship nonsense with that skin. Persephone is the story of a mother losing her child to death stealing her away, and it explains a mother's mourning as the cause for winter. It's not really meant to be romantic, it's tragic with a touch of kidnapping/marriage drama for sport, as Greek mythos does lol. Greek mythos isn't always litteral, it's often metaphor.)

This instant pick of Reaper to me shows the team chose it for shallow reasons, and probably did little to no research on Egyptian mythology. Atleast they got the psychopomp (entities that escort souls) aspect correct, kinda. Both the Grim Reaper and Anubis escort souls, but Anubis judges them to determine if they can enter the afterlife. I mean sure, Reaper is out to inflict his sense of justice (kinda Anubis like to be the judgement?), I could see that. But why wasn't it explained...

I would have loved to see an Osiris Ramattra skin instead (Osiris is connected to Anubis in how the worshipping changed) or 'Anubis' or even Set skin. Would have fit better for the character, made more sense for a Tank to get a mythic. I KNOW Ramattra just got a skin, but come on. Ramattra was originally going to be the embodiment of the Anubis ai(or simply codenamed Anubis) as a hero based on a Pharaoh themed PVE boss that uses sand powers and resurrection of mobs. Then they turned that into nanites and made it into Ramattra (also lifted off of an ow oc from Argentinian fans called Voltikko most likely).

ANYWAYS this is a PR mess, really shows they don't know the community. (Not to mention clash+new maps in comp day 1 when people haven't been able to practice???)

Venture, the omnic archeologist character, was used in promo vids to advertise the new Anubis clash map, yet Venture gets no skins or emotes?

Ramattra, created by the anubis ai, gets no skins or emotes? And you can't say 'oh but Ramattra got stuff already--" SO DID Reinhardt! And he's seemingly getting ANOTHER collab skin right after the Optimus Prime and Mythic Weapon!

The people in charge need to understand promising one theme and delivering disjointed bp themes hurts the hype cycle and makes people stop caring about the new seasons. If you can't guess what might come bc ANYTHING unrelated could, there is no hype and it creates disappointment for what could have been... it's makes it look blatantly like a souless cashgrab skin factory at that point lol. How can you promise Egyptian mythology theme and have random unrelated heroes and skins (Genji, Kiriko) on the cover page? The Greek mythos bp was better than this.

Looking at the other skins, I was suprised to see Polar Reinhardt and Polar Brigitte. It gives me hope future Egyptian skins are just out of order right now (like null sector Zenyatta).

So this had more of a teamwork feel than the last few episodes. It could belong in any season, really. Makes me feel that maybe starting the season the way they started it really was just bad scheduling.

If you want to know how bad CityTV is at scheduling, guy made a joke about the killer dressed in a superhero costume "like it's Halloween", and the episode aired a day after Halloween. So yeah. The only episode that shouldn’t have aired close to Halloween, aired on Halloween. Good job, CityTV.

Standard superhero/vigilante crime show episode with a twist. You can’t reinvent the wheel by following the same path others have made. But it’s okay, I don’t expect it from this show, or any formulaic crime show. I mean, you’d have to be an idiot at this point to expect that.

I keep seeing similarities between the Moonknight and the Night Keeper costumes. At least the Night Keeper costume is black.

I was hoping that Sarah had some kind of family story when she mentioned that she had experience with delusional disorder but of course it’s one of her multiple degrees.

The fact that Charlie and Sarah mentioned that they’d meet at dinner and then we didn’t see the dinner is A CRIME. But at least they remind us (in their own distant way) that they’re still together.

I’ll put a BOLO out for Charlie’s house, by the way. I’m hoping the reason it’s missing is because Charlie and Sarah are moving together in another house (now who has a delusional disorder, lol).

I was kinda hoping that Sarah would save him, but when you have Rex and the Night Keeper, eh, I wasn’t holding my breath.

“I've got my superpower right here” SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP oh my god this was so corny I loved it (this user is not immune to grown men being soft with dogs, it’s a very specific illness, non-curable).

I think they had like fifty team shots in this episode. It was like someone was annoyed by the lack of team screen time in the previous episodes and overcompensated. Also, do decide what the temperature is in the room. Some wore coats, and Sarah (who is always cold) wore a sleeveless shirt?

Overall, fun but unsurprising episode, in the tone of Hudson and Rex as a show. The level of enjoyment very much depends on whether someone cares at all about superheroes, in my opinion, because they got the characters and “actors” involved quite a bit. Easily rewatchable, more enjoyable than I thought (I audibly groaned when I saw the promo for this, mind you. CityTV call me, you need me). Plot loses cohesion in the third act but it’s okay because you’ll have figured out the killer way before that.

PS: It seriously helps to remember what the show is about. I’m talking to both the fandom and the writers here, but especially to the writers.
