Hello! :D
I have another basic question for you, though, as always, I made it more complicated than necessary.
What are your & the Dorfs’ favorite gemstones? Top 5 overall categories, whether by color or by type. (Ex: Pink gems, green gems, white gems, purple gems, & multicolored gems for color or garnets, pearls, diamonds, amethysts, & emeralds for type.) Note, it is an option to choose both kinds of categories. (Ex: Blue gems, garnets, jades, red gems, & quartzes.)
And 3 specifics within each of those categories. (Ex: Star sapphires, larimars, & aquamarines for blue gems. Pink pyropes, tsavorite, & hessonite for garnets. Jadeite, nephrite, & chalcedony for jades. Rubies, carnelians, & fire opals for red gems. Amethysts, rose quartz, & citrines for quartzes.)
For instance, I love most any purple or blue gemstones, opals, moonstones, & abalone shell. For specifics, I love magenta pyropes, amethysts, & ametrine for purple gemstones. Aquamarines, labradorites, & chrysocolla chalcedony for blue gems. Rainbow opals, Mexican fire opals, & Australian opals for opals. Pink moonstones, blue flash moonstones, & rainbow moonstones for moonstones. And, finally, Haliotis sorenseni, Calliostoma annulatum, & Tegula brunnea for abalone shells.
This is a good one! I am partial to my birthstones, which are Opal and Rose Quartz. Opals are gorgeous, and come in such a stunning array of colors and vibrancy. Dragons Eye Opal and Fire Opals are def high tier on my list. Rose Quartz I like for the story behind it, that it helps with healing and love. Its a softer Pastel pink, which is nice.

Beach finds from between Penzance and Marazion. 27 December 2019.
1 painted top shell (Calliostoma zizyphinum)
1 crab claw - probably a young edible crab (Cancer pagurus).
96 pieces of sea glass, including a first ever piece of UV milk glass (next to the shell)! Lots of clear, aqua and seafoam again, including a few very satisfying symmetrical aqua pieces - lower centre, indicated by longer shadows - one is completely round but I don’t think it was a marble, and the other two are gumdrop shape, indicating their origin could be a stopper (in the case of the smaller one) or a mamelon/kick-up (in the case of the larger one). On the row above those, the long seafoam one on the right is part of a bottleneck.

Ar Diwrnod Rhyngwladol Amgueddfeydd dyma Ffaith Iaith ddifyr i chi! Calliostoma zizyphinum yw hon - ‘painted top shell’ yn Saesneg, neu ‘trwyn fy nain’ yn y Gymraeg! Ydy hi’n edrych fel trwyn i chi?
An interesting translation for International Museum Day - this Calliostoma zizyphinum is known as a ‘painted top shell’ in English - or ‘trwyn fy nain’ (my grandmother’s nose) in Welsh! What do you think - does it look like a nose to you?!

Beach finds from Par Sands and Polkerris Beach, Cornwall. 29 November 2019.
12 surf clam (Spisula solida) halves.
1 hard clam (Mercenaria mercenaria) half – not confident with this id.
2 rayed artemis (Dosinia exoleta) halves.
5 banded venus (Clausinella fasciata) halves.
1 thin tellin (Tellina tenuis) pair.
1 blue rayed limpet (Patella pellucida).
1 striped venus (Chamelea gallina) pair, + 5 halves.
1 rayed trough shell (Mactra stultorum) half.
1 painted top shell (Calliostoma zizyphinum).
1 flat periwinkle (Littorina obtusata).
2 netted dog whelks (Tritia reticulata).
and probably the last weathered shell fragment I’ll collect. I’d already stopped picking these up, however perfect, and only took this one to make a point about omitting this object type from beach hauls from now on.
23 glass fragments, 22 of which are the usual lovely rounded ones, and 1 is an unusual piece of black (very dark green) glass. The frosting on the raised concentric circles (which, if this is the base of a bottle, would have been on the inside) is perfect, and a pleasant contrast with the jagged (but worn enough to not be sharp) edges.

Beach finds from multiple walks between Penzance and Marazion during February 2020.
1 banded wedge shell (Donax vittatus) pair.
2 painted top shells (Calliostoma zizyphinum), 1 large, 1 small.
1 very small auger shell (Turritella communis) (Bittium reticulatum).
2 sting winkles (Ocenebra erinaceus), 1 large, 1 small(er).
18 small netted dog whelk (Tritia reticulata) shells.
14 spotted cowrie (Trivia monacha) shells.
137 perfect pieces of sea glass - my favourite by far from this month is the incredibly bright turquoise one on the bottom row.
6 pottery fragments, all white porcelain: 1 dark blue, probably willow pattern, could be tiles on a roof with a tree branch in front of it; 1 mid-blue flower and leaf design; 1 with only a few dark blue lines visible, possibly the edge of a design (plate?); 1 mid blue criss cross pattern surrounded by leaves and fruit; 1 mid-blue circles and lines pattern, probably the edge of a design (plate?); 1 very sharply detailed design in black, with an ornate leaf, a flag that says ‘YARMOUTH’ backwards, and the letters ‘WITH’, which could be the word on its own or the beginning of another.

Beach finds from May to December 2020, collected between Penzance and Marazion. Objects separated into inorganic and organic arrangements.
Inorganics:
4 ceramic fragments
157 pieces of glass, including a marble (though not at all worn it is nonetheless an irresistible shiny thing), and a glass bead which glows under UV light, which is next to the marble, and next to 2 lavender/greys which are some of my favourites here
Organics:
1 Atlantic surf clam (Spisula solidissima) half
1 rayed trough shell (Mactra stultorum) half
1 banded wedge shell (Donax vittatus) pair
3 blue rayed limpets (Patella pellucida)
42 spotted cowries (Trivia monarcha), which are not as common as this collection might imply, I just make much more effort to look for them because they’re the best thing to find!
5 needle whelks (Bittium reticulatum)
15 pheasant shells (Tricolia pullus)
7 flat periwinkles (Littorina obtustata)
8 netted dog whelks (Tritia reticulata), these are the most abundant species, but I still collect those that are a nice colour, or are particularly well defined, or in this case, unusually tiny
1 Bela nebula shell
1 so far unidentified, very pretty purple, I found one similar in April and thought it might be another flat periwinkle, but with this one the shape is clearly different
1 dog whelk (Nucella lapillus)
2 flat top shell (Steromphala umbilicalis), also an abundant species, and only these were kept for their notably vivid markings
2 rough periwinkles (Littorina saxatilis), one unusually orange, and one unusually small
7 painted top shells (Calliostoma zizyphinum)
