I LOVE Teen Stan and Ford, it’s sad they don’t get drawn enough, so thank you so much!
Does Ford ever help Stan when he gets overstimulated? Or maybe when he has a rage response and suddenly starts crying and calls himself stupid?

Journal 3’s references to Stan
(Is this just a chopped up version of a post i made earlier so i can experiment to see why it didnt show up in the tags? ....maybe
But hey now I'm transcribing it all so I hope that helps those who can't read Ford's handwriting lol)
Pre-Portal Ford
Tumblr media
"I recall finding a shrunken head in the family pawnshop & bringing it to show-and-tell. Every other student brought a football, a football trophy, or a book about football. All of these objects were thrown at me as I gave my report. If my brother hadn't shielded me and punched one of the other kids in the nose, I might have spent the rest of the year in the hospital."
Tumblr media
“Worst of all, I was born with a rare birth defect: six fingers on each hand. Although my family tried to convince me that this made me special (and it did help with shadow puppets)”
Tumblr media
[Truth Teeth page] “It would be quite interesting to see what my brother and mother would act like while wearing these!”
Tumblr media
[Dream Hipster page] "I tried to shake my hand to make it stop, and it fell off my arm! My hand grew and grew, and began to chase me! Suddenly, I realized my hand wasn't chasing after me at all- it was chasing after my brother; and it was going to squeeze him to death! It grabbed him and lifted him into the air. I tried to run to help him, but my feet were frozen.
Just when it looked like my brother was done for, the Hipster appeared, and said, "LOOKS LIKE YOU FINALLY GAVE YOUR BROTHER A HANNNDD!" The entire thing was just a setup for one of the Hipster's stupid snarky puns!"
Tumblr media
“It occurs to me that if I must keep secrets from F, I might as well begin writing certain passages of this book in code. I aced Cryptology in college, so this will be fun! (At least for me. It would be deeply tedious and annoying for someone trying to decipher it.) It amuses me to think of their frustrating effort!” (ok this is likely for the reader and likely ain’t a direct stan reference. but like. it is to me)
Tumblr media
(Caesar cipher) "I still recall that one summer Stanley and I hunted for the Jersey Devil in the Pine Barrens. Mom and Dad never believed that we really saw one...."
Tumblr media
"Reminds me of camping with my brother. I wonder what he's up to...."
Tumblr media
“When I sat down, [the fortune teller] quickly grabbed my hands and said, "What took you so long, Sixer?” I felt a chill run down my back. How she knew my childhood nickname was beyond me."
Tumblr media
"It reminds me of the tree forts me and my brother used to build... when we dreamed of being adventurers...."
Tumblr media
"I collapsed by the parking lot of the Twin Bed Motel. I stared at the word "twin" as I tried to catch my breath, and I realized that there was only one person left in this world that I could possibly trust with my secrets. I began forming a plan."
[Blacklight Hiding Places page] “Journal 3: The volume I hold in my hands. Describes my embarrassing defeat at the hands of Bill and the loss of my very sanity. Also contains a pretty good drawing of a plaidypus. Will soon be bestowed upon S and hidden at the ends of the Earth (I hope).” (he wrote the wrong journal to give to Stan lmao)
Tumblr media
"Ironically, the only other person left that I can trust is the least trustworthy person I know. He is a thief and a charlatan- but a well-traveled one. I have no doubt that he is familiar with mob hangouts and back alleys the wide world over. He will find somewhere to hide Journal 1. I have sent word to him and now must await his arrival.
Perhaps he can yet prove his worth to me. Perhaps the mistakes of the past can be undone. There's nothing I can do but wait."
Tumblr media
"The time has come to bury this tome. After that, all there is left to do is wait for S. And save the world. Or lose my life in the effort.”
Other sections: Post-Portal, Post-Weirdmageddon, Lost Journal pages + Ford's letters

💚👀
💚: What does everyone else get wrong about your favorite character?
Oh, that's easy when Ford's my favorite character, lmao.
Everything!
I'm exhausted by all the takes I've seen about him being purely selfish and evil and who doesn't give a fuck about his family when that couldn't be further from the truth!
like he gets mad at Stan for breaking his trust and opening the torment nexus that will destroy everyone and their dog if opened just to save him and everyone screams that he's the devil for not giving him any thanks. honestly, who can blame him?! what's the point of opening the torment nexus for one person if everything else is destroyed, y'know? like damn, the man didn't even get an apology first!
also, the 'ego'. idk, having poor self worth and seeking validation to cope with that feeling of being worthless otherwise must look similar enough to egotism for people to get confused i guess. his intellect is all he thinks he has for him to have value. he doesn't actually think he has inherent value just by existing, so he seeks it out using his smarts. that's why bill was able to manipulate him so easily, man.
also, the victim blaming... i could go on and on about the victim blaming. how many times do i have to say that Ford was Bill's victim and the apocalypse wasn't his fault? How many times do i have to remind people of how manipulation works? how many times do i have to say that it's not anyone's fault but Bill's before they get it? how many times do i have to say that Ford is not stupid for what Bill did. He didn't know. Not knowing is not a fucking moral failure.
god there's so much the fandom gets wrong with him that i'm going to end it here before i give you an 100 page essay lmao
anyway, thank you for the ask, it was fun to write out my frustrations ^^

Bill, you're scaring the child! >:(
So, uhhhh... Let's just say that Bill doesn't like that Ford let his brother and niece stay in Gravity Falls with him very much...😅 Btw the whole "Fiddleford quits and starts a cult" and "Ford falls through the portal" thing is still happening, but a little differently than cannon with Stan and Steph's presence.
Follow up.

Stanford never became friends with Fiddleford.
Instead he got himself a different small friend group who cares a lot about him. At least about the Ford he pretended to be in college.
A kind, soft spoken formerly bullied genius who researches very dull stuff in Oregon and definitely not anything weird. Their Ford would never break any rules or ignore safety measures [unlike that other student they heard about during their college years.]
And then Ford stops answering their calls and loses his grant.
It’s time for an intervention and they start pestering Ford with letters and calls until he finally agrees to meet them at a science convention, but he’ll take his brother with him.
They’re relieved! Ford is with Shermie! They like Shermie! It's a good thing that Ford still has one brother who isn't a good for nothing selfish criminal who destroyed his entire future!
If they ever get their hands on Ford’s evil twin they’ll make sure he’ll regret ever messing with their friend. Ford is too nice for revenge. They aren’t.
Meanwhile at the not-yet Mystery Shack, the Stans freshly survived their own angsty canon divergent tale of two stans AU and locked Bill out of Ford's mind like a week ago.
Stan: I don’t know how long Ford will keep me around but this will be good for him. He needs some friends to take care of him after I inevitably get kicked out again!
Ford: I only agreed to this because Stan insisted and I still haven’t found a way to thank him and apologize. I hope all my “friends” die in a fire.
#gravity falls#stanley pines#stanford pines#I need Ford to be a bit off a bastard im this one. But can we blame him?#The poor guy did so much research about how to fit in with his peers before going to college and it worked too well.#He regretted it almost instantly once he realised he had to keep this up for the next couple of years.#He had to pretend to like all the popular music and movies and girls#and partying#instead of spending his weekends solving the greatest mysteries of the universe.#he constantly had to tell himself that this is what he wants. He needs to fit in and be liked if he ever wants to be recognized by his peer#Of course Fords friends have it instantly out for Stan and can you blame them? Ford looks like he hasn’t slept in weeks#hides mysterious injuries and his brother refuses to leave Fords side ven at night#[Poor Ford is just simply too scared to go to sleep without Stan protecting him]#They all come to horrifying conclusions about Stan. Poor Stan might even agree with them. Also#Ford: uses slang and bad grammar Stan: SHIT WHO DID FORD GET POSSESSED BY NOW???#Eventually an anamoly or a science experiment gone wrong happens during the convention and Ford is all over it immediately#pulls out a new journal#spouts out theories faster than anyone can keep up with and runs closer to the madness with no regard to his#or everyone elses safety Fords friends stare after him disbelieving and scared out of their minds Stan next to them sighs “Ford#amirite?#Welp better go and make sure he doesn’t get himself killed” and runs after Ford.#Eventtually in all the chaos Ford and Stan get rescued by a kind man in a giant mech dinosaur. Ford and the new guy hit it off immediately#and solve everything with just a little bit more destuction that might’ve been necessary. It was all for the sake of science.#Stan takes a long look at the robot guy. “Yep#he’ll do. Seems much more Ford’s style”#and throws him into the Stanleymobile together with Ford and escapes before the police arrive.#Ford and the new guy barely notice as they keep on talking nerd stuff. Easiest kidnapping of Stans life.#He knew coming here was a great idea. And thus the mystery trio was born.

Inspired by i could imagine the end of the world and nothing else by cottonmouthcandy on Ao3 (link in reblogs)
“Couldn’t talk for a month after I got out of that goddamned city. Just clammed up. Started sweatin’ like I was hunted every time I opened my mouth.”
What if there was no hang fire?
"WHO IS IT? HAVE YOU COME TO STEAL MY EYES?!"
Stan looks surprised, then his face falls. He waves.
"... Stanley? Is that you?" Ford grabs him and shines a light in his eyes.
Stan winces and tries to shove Ford off of him.
"Apologies, I just had to make sure you weren't... nevermind. Come in, come in."
Stan follows Ford into the shack, looking around judgementally as Ford paces.
"Did anyone follow you? Anyone at all?"
Bemused, Stan shakes his head.
"Good, good. I appreciate you coming so quickly. There's not much time. I've made huge mistakes, and I don't know who I can trust anymore." He turns the head of a skeleton to look away. Stan raises an eyebrow, perturbed.
Stan steps forward to place a hand on Ford's shoulder, and his jaw works as he wants to say something... but even now, the words stay caught in his throat. Instead he just squeezes in what he hopes is a reassuring manner.
Ford sighs. "Right, I... I should explain myself. Follow me. What I'm about to show you is... something you can't even imagine."
Stan nods and gestures for Ford to lead on.
They make their way downstairs. Ford is too caught up in his own head to notice how silent Stan is being.
When they get to the portal, Stan is actually speechless. Ford takes this as his sign to begin a monologue.
You and I both know how this next part goes, so I'll do you a favor and skip to the good part. The part where Ford tells him to sail away.
Stan's face falls, then turns angry. He wants to shout, to scream, but he still can't seem to get even a frustrated grunt past his lips. Instead, he just shoves the journal back at Ford.
"What the- Stanley! Be reasonable! All I'm asking for is one single favor! I haven't asked you for anything in over ten years, the least you can do for me is make sure the world doesn't come to ruin!"
Stan just shakes his head. In his fury, a single syllable forces its way out of him.
"You-!"
And just like that, his jaw clamps down again. His hand finds its way to cover his mouth. He can't do it. No matter how angry and hurt he is, he's still too terrified. Too broken.
Ford doesn't catch Stan's inner turmoil. "I what? Go on then! What's the first thing you have to say to me in over a decade? After everything you did, after you ruined my life, what could you possibly have left to say to me?"
Stan has so much to say. Too much. So much that he can't even make his voice work, just like he hasn't in over a year. It hurts too much.
Ford waits, and when Stan doesn't say anything, scoffs bitterly. "Right. Of course not. That's what I thought. More the fool I was for thinking I still had one person left in the world I could trust."
Stan stops at that. It hurts more than words can say.
Ford turns back, a new pleading look in his eye. "If you truly won't help me, I... Stanley, I don't have any idea what I'll do. We have our resentments, but this is bigger than that. Bigger than either of us. This could destroy reality as we know it. I don't expect you to understand it, but I at least want you to..."
Ford sighs again, rubbing his eyes furiously. He looks so tired. "Of course, I shouldn't have bothered. None of this means anything to you, does it? It never has. You only ever saw me as your ticket to success. That's why you still have nothing to say to me." His voice grows hardened, resentful. "You've always been a coward and a liar. I can't believe I was so desperate as to reach out to you. No matter how dire the circumstances, I should've known I could never trust-"
Stan's fist connects with Ford's jaw. He folds like a house of cards. He struggles upright, surprised at Stan's seething expression.
Stan breathes heavily. He's shaking. His jaw works, but he still can't make himself speak. Ford waits for him to say something, anything.
Stan opens his mouth to speak, and he almost manages- an odd, squeaky, hoarse noise comes out of his throat. But that's all. So he just turns around and walks away.
Ford watches him go, heart sinking into his stomach. He looks at the journal in his hands and wonders what he's going to do now.
"Wait-"
Stan stops dead. He didn't expect that. He turns back.
Ford doesn't know how to ask this, but he has to. "... If you're leaving, just- at least take this with you." He holds out the journal. "I can't keep it. I- I can't be trusted with it. It's not safe here, not with me, not with anyone else."
Stan actually considers it now. Ford seems so terrified and desperate. But is this really all Stan is good for?
Ford swallows his pride just a little more. "... Please?"
Stan is shocked. Neither of them ever say please. Pa always said that was for sissies- real men take what they want. And yet, here they are, and Ford is asking.
It hurts to know this is all Stan means to him, but he can't find it in himself to say no.
Stan takes the journal.
Ford heaves a sigh of relief so potent he nearly topples over. "Thank you."
Stan just nods. He doesn't know if he feels like leaving now, though. Ford seems fragile. It worries him.
Ford doesn't catch it. "... Well. I suppose that's it then. You're... free to go."
Stan just keeps staring at him. He looks awful. It's much harder to leave now that the anger has faded a bit.
"... What?"
Stan isn't sure what. He gestures with one hand at Ford.
Ford just blinks. Utterly bemused. "I... um..."
Stan rolls his eyes and repeats the gesture more emphatically.
"... I don't... what are you doing?"
Stan sighs and looks around. Luckily, he spies what he needs on a nearby desk. Ford watches, dumbstruck, as Stan retrieves a pen and notepad. Then when Stan is finished scribbling, the note is shoved in his face.
You gonna be okay?
"... I... Stanley, what's going on?"
Stan shakes the note.
"Yes, I read it, I just- why are you- I don't understand-" Ford's breath catches. His eyes go wide and he lowers his voice. "Are we being listened to?"
Stan's shoulders slump. He shakes his head and writes something else.
Pretty sure I wasn't followed.
"Then- then what? Why are you..." It's Ford's turn to gesture vaguely at his twin. "This?"
Ouch. Ford probably didn't mean it that way, but still.
Stan chews on the inside of his cheek. He doesn't want to reveal how broken he is now, but Ford just isn't getting it. He can't bring himself to look at Ford when he hands over the next note.
Can't talk.
Ford stares at the message. It doesn't compute. "... I don't..." He tries to meet Stan's eyes. His gaze is avoided. "Why not?"
Stan hesitates before writing again.
Just can't.
"No, clearly you can. Or at least to a degree." Ford's eyes flicker over Stan's body. "Your mouth and layrnx still seem functional... No one is listening to us... Are you cursed somehow?"
Stan almost laughs, except it's been even longer since he did that than it has since he's spoken.
Something like that.
Ford's brow furrows. "That isn't an answer. Why can't you speak?"
Stan underlines his earlier message. Just can't.
"No, you can," Ford insists. "You always could for as long as I can remember. It was harder to get you to shut up sometimes. Why have you decided to stop now? Is this a recent development?"
Stan really wants to walk away now. But he knows Ford will just follow him. Not that recent. Didn't decide. Just can't. He underlines the last word several times.
Ford looks even more frustrated when he reads that. "If if isn't voluntary, how is it that you're still capable of speech, in the mechanical sense? Is it... neurological somehow? What was it that F mentioned..." He rubs his eyes again, even rougher than before. Before Stan can write anything else, he snaps his fingers. "Expressive aphasia! It can be caused by a traumatic brain injury. You appear otherwise unaffected though. Have you experienced any extreme head trauma?"
Stan shakes his head incredulously. Well, he's been clobbered a few times, but he always ended up fine afterwards. No stupider than he was before.
"Are you sure? Because I can't think of anything else that would..." Ford slowly starts to piece something together. He looks cautiously at Stan. "Except..."
Stan shifts uncomfortably. He shrugs, as if to say, What?
Ford just stares at him, as if seeing him for the first time. He swallows. "It's just that... the only other cause I can think of is psychological trauma."
Stan snorts. He can't help it. He shrugs in a, well, what can you do? gesture.
Ford looks horrified, the drama queen. "... Really?"
Stan rolls his eyes, then gestures to himself. I mean, look at me. Then he gestures at Ford. You don't look too good yourself.
"I- no, I'm fine," Ford defends in a very-not-fine tone of voice. "And you- you're supposed to be... that doesn't make sense. None if this makes sense..." He rubs at his face almost violently, skewing his glasses. "Stupid brain, just work for a minute here..."
On instinct, Stan steps forward to take his hands and stop him. Ford flinches back. They stare at each other for a moment.
Stan raises an eyebrow. Fine, huh?
Ford sighs. "That... it's been some time since I've slept and I'm a little jumpy. Like I said, I've made... terrible mistakes." He shudders.
Stan looks at him with new understanding. He crosses his arms and gestures for Ford to continue.
He frowns darkly. "There is a being of unimaginable power that seeks to use me to bring about the end of the world."
Stan doesn't even blink. Just waits for him to keep talking.
He does. "He takes over my body when I sleep. I've been able to hold him off so far, but only barely. If he gets his hands on my journals, is able to activate the portal..." He puts his hands on Stan's shoulders. "Stanley, it would be the end of the world."
Stan raises an eyebrow. Another note: He?
"Bi-" and this time it's Ford who clams up. He shakes his head. "It- it's not safe to invoke his name. What's important is that he is an entity with infinite knowledge and access to my mind and body at any time." His eyes are wide, afraid. "I was a fool to ever trust him."
Stan softens. He understands that, at least. He writes: You got conned.
Ford considers that and nods gravely. "I suppose I did." Uncharacteristic shame colors him. "Hook, line, and sinker, as it were."
Stan studies him for a moment. Then, determined, he writes: He gonna hurt you?
Ford is stunned at that, a little vulnerable. "That- that's not important."
Stan shakes his head emphatically. Points at the note.
"Probably, yes, but again, that's not-"
Stan lifts a hand to stop him. Miraculously, he does. Stan thinks for a second, then writes: Not leaving.
Ford's face falls. "What? No, you can't stay here, I just told you-"
While Ford was speaking, Stan finished another note, and he shoves it in Ford's face.
You're my brother. And below it, pressed so hard into the paper it almost tears, Not leaving you.
Ford can only stare at the words. "But..."
Stan cuts him off with another wave of his hand. This time he writes for much longer. Ford waits.
You look half dead. Don't wanna lose you. Don't care if you don't wanna see me. You. Need. Help.
Ford can't think of anything to say to that. For once, all he can think is that maybe Stan is right.
So, eventually, tentatively, shakily, he nods. "Okay," he croaks. "Okay. What do we do?"
Stan offers a smile. Then he wrinkles his nose. Shower first. You stink.
Ford mirrors him. "Well, you don't exactly smell pleasant either."
Tooshay. Upstairs?
"Not how it's spelled," Ford mutters. Still, he considers the words for a moment. Looks back. Looks at the journal in Stan's hands, then behind him at the elevator.
"... Alright."

sigh.
I need this out of my brain, I'm trying to focus on the fics I'm already writing, so I'm flinging this into the void
Au where Stan's born Stan Filbrick Pines, only child to Filbrick and Caryn Pines. He's not a super smart genius, but without Ford to compare to his life...
Still sucks.
He's not bullied for being the dumb twin, but he's still a jerk, still barely socializes positively with his peers, is desperate for connection but doesn't know how to change himself to be more likable to everyone around him. He's still bullied as a kid for being shrimpy and weak until he picks up boxing, still finds the Stan O' War, but it becomes a hang out spot for him to be by himself and draw instead of a focal point for his dreams of escapism.
But now that he's not getting pressured to be more like Ford he can focus on his own hobbies without too much shame.
Specifically drawing.
Starts writing his lil'Stan comic, grows a little older and dang :/ kinda embarrassing to have the character be just him, he'll give him a different name!
Like Stanley. No one will ever guess its an OC thats just him like this!
Grows a little older and his loneliness manifests as him giving his comic character (who's not him!) a friend, named..... Stanford. Stanford's everything Stanley isn't, smart (doesn't struggle in school like Stan), cool (people think his actions are amazing and not something to laugh at or dismiss), a hero everyone likes but is too focused on being a nerd to realize (Stan's the town's trouble child, and is very aware no one likes him). Its not Stan's ideal! Its not Stan twice! See, Stanford different, because, uh, he's got six fingers!
So Stan's got his Lil'Stans comic, starring the twins Stanley and Stanford, one who's just him and one who's everything Stan's not (and sort of wishes he was) and are the best of friends. Life goes on, Stan hits high school, draws and doesn't get the comparison that kills his creativeness but also still isn't a super genius like his cool OC Sixer. Hits seventeen and gets scouted for some prestigious art school.
Turns out Stan's got talent! He's pretty good! Just one thing!
They don't really like his comic style, they like his more realistic, detailed style more. Stan can get in, but he has to 'grow up' and leave his comics behind (or at least, that's what it feels like everyone else is telling him).
And Stan does it. He wants to go somewhere no one knows him, where he can hopefully find someone who doesn't scowl and grimace at all of his ideas, actually make friends. Writes a final farewell comic to his characters, where Stanley and Stanford have a (typical Teen) angsty falling out and Stanley rides off into the sunset to start his own adventure, and maybe find somewhere he belongs.
This does not happen, and while Stan graduates he's just as lonely as he was when he started, parents distant, brother someone he barely knows. Through a series of events Stan's more 'mature' work gets popular and he moves out to Gravity Falls for either inspiration or just to get away from it all. Doesn't matter.
What matters is he's been living his life, drawing stories based on all the weird things around him, when a man who looks eerily similar to him bursts into his living room, claims to be his twin, and is here to take Stan on an adventure to Save Everyone.
aka
Stan's childhood comics come to life, except specifically the twin brother he dreamed up, the evil villain he based off a chip when he was out of ideas, and a few minor characters (Fiddleford, various others, idk). The world of Lil'Stans' , now fully real, is seeping into the real world and Ford's come rescue his 'long lost' brother who ditched him ten years ago and who he's still angry with over it (Stan's a little peeved about it. He was seventeen! How was he supposed to know all his day dreams were real? or something? Actually whats happening?)
(Aka, I've seen a few fics about Ford being an only child and creating Stan in one way or another, what if it was the other way around? This idea slammed into my brain the other night out of nowhere. I've got nothing but the premise and i need it Out of my Mind)

wait did people actually interpret the stan o war ending as them not going back to gravity falls for a few months every year and instead as them only ever staying on the boat?? i thought that them staying for summers or just regular breaks + them constantly having video chats with family and friends was something everyone just assumed lol
(people tend to forget their motto of 'growing old doesn't mean growing up' too huh)
#the 'see you next summer' applied to them too!#plus the implication that hey we're actually gonna get grandpa stan when soos and melody have kids#he's gonna spoil them rotten and show off his cool adventures!!!#(but also him struggling with being called grandpa and everyone trying to stop him from getting them to call him grunkle instead)#(i can see the point of some folks being a bit ship brained about this when they say that ford would stay at mcgucket's mansion instead#sure he'd likely stay over a few times just like how mabel does with grenda and candy but he'd want to live in the shack??)#kinda wish that the hc that the reconstruction of the shack had them adding more rooms and renovating the basement was popular#'oh they'll argue like crazy' eh i think tbob especially is firm with their dynamic being pretty settled#it's like insisting that 'nah mabel and dipper should've actually been separated cos they argue all the time and will continue to argue'#or 'mabel and dipper should've stayed in gf!!! that's where all their closest family and friends are!!!'#or even 'they shouldn't go back to gf that's where all their most worst moments were and they were in danger all the time!!'#i think w3 was pretty firm that the moment they stop fighting they immediately get along super well???#plus the stan twins can also like make friends with people outside of town for once too#(stan.... noticably doesn't have any friends still ya know? and ford only has one ksahkdsha)#(it is pretty noticable that stan never really got along with any of the townsfolk....)#folks in that other post was very much 'well ford would want to have a home after being adrift for so long' and 1. family is what they#consider as home whether that be the boat or the shack#and 2. urgh people ignoring that stan was trapped in one place for 30 years....

Somewhere out there in the multiverse there exists a Jerk Ford
Not an evil Ford, he's just a massive jerk. To everyone, except (ironically) his own version of Stan.
People didn't exclude him while he was growing up because of his six fingers, but because he was an absolute dick all of the time.
The only reason their high school wanted Ford to go to that fancy college was to send him away, and make it way less likely he would ever come back to Jersey.
Stan still breaks his Perpetual Motion Machine, but this version of Ford chooses to believe him when he says it was an accident, and stands up for him when Filbrick tries to kick Stan out.
He still goes to Backupsmore, this time with Stan (who graduated) in tow, and the only reason he and Fiddleford are 'friends' is because Ford still mathematically proved Fiddlefords theory on the Universe being a Hologram, but he rubs it in Fiddlefords face for not proving it on his own.
Backupsmore University only gives Ford the research grant in hope he'll leave and never come back.
The only reason he takes a deal with Bill is because he's going to build that portal, only to never activate it as a 'SIKE!' on Bill. He doesn't even care he's creating something that would revolutionize science as they know it, he just wants to troll a 'God'.
Stan has to convince (i.e actually beg) Fiddleford to help Ford.
Fiddleford doesn't even accidentally get his head sucked into the portal this time, he leaves because he could only stand Ford for so long before being done (he kept peeling the stickers off the Cubiks Cubes and putting them on different squares so Fiddleford couldn't solve them).
This time Ford goes through the portal, and it breaks, because he accidentally fell asleep in the portal room and got possessed by Bill who tried opening the portal, but Stan had to fight him to stop him, only to accidentally shove Bill!Ford into the portal.
Since Stan and Ford were known to be two separate people the whole time, and Stan just reported Ford as 'Missing' and he never took his identity, the townsfolk assumed he'd actually murdered Ford, but they never question it because they're just so glad that he's gone.
They had a celebration and everything. Stan was the only one in town who didn't go.
Jerk Ford goes out into the multiverse and every single other Ford, even the evil ones, absolutely hate this guy because no one can push their buttons better than, well, themself. He's not even a wanted criminal, because none of the dimensions want him there, they want him to be another dimensions problem.
There's a Ford Hate Club that isn't for hating on all Fords, just this one. Most of it is made up of other Fords.
Canon Ford hates him for being a massive jerk, only for Jerk Ford to tell him that biggest difference between them really is that he chooses to not be a jerk to the one person who matters most to them (i.e their twin brother Stan). The one Ford who appreciates his Stan and it's the Biggest Jerk ever.
Jerk Ford is still a jerk to alternate versions of Stanley, too. It's literally just his own that he's not a jerk to.
Thirty years later when Stan fixes the portal and brings him back, everyone else in Gravity Falls is immediately mad at him for bringing him back, including Dipper and Mabel who dislike him as soon as the glamour of a 'cool space Grunkle' wears off. Although, Dipper already disliked Ford before he even met him because his research journals give advice on cryptids that seems helpful, but is actually the opposite. (Like saying people should definitely and exclusively use water on Gremloblins).
The only reason Dipper wanted to find The Author in this dimension is that he wants to punch him in the face for his trolling.
So when Ford comes out of the portal he doesn't try to punch Stan, in fact he goes in for a hug, only for Dipper to punch him instead as soon as he heard 'The Author of the Journals'.
Stan tries to convince Ford to be nice to Mabel and Dipper; Ford isn't necessarily nice to them, but he isn't as big of a jerk as he could have been, which is a lot for him. So he doesn't purposely tangle all of Mabels yarn, or kill off Dippers character in Dungeons, Dungeons, and More Dungeons.
Weirdmageddon still happens, but this time it's Dipper who destroys the snowglobe with the rift because he never wanted to be Fords apprentice, so he never knew what the rift was. He ended up breaking it on purpose because he got so sick of Fords shit that he wanted to break something Ford liked.
The reason they couldn't get the zodiac circle together during Weirdmageddon isn't because of Stan and Ford fighting, but because Ford couldn't stop being a jerk for two seconds and Robbie let go of his hand.
Weirdmageddon ends the same as it did in canon, with Stan sacrificing himself because of Fords metal plate, except this time Mabel and Dipper are even more frantic to bring their Grunkle Stan back, because they don't want him to be a blank slate that their Grunkle Ford would influence and possibly turn into another jerk (Which is something Jerk Ford actually wouldn't do, because he loves his brother for who he is).
Old Man McGucket himself personally funds The Stan O'War II expedition (not just the boat itself but stuff like the passports, paperwork, living expenses, ect.) just to keep Ford on the ocean, as far away from other people as possible.
And this is a sane Steve Jobs -esque Old Man McGucket who was never traumatized by the nightmare realm because of Ford. That's how much of a jerk this Ford is.

So y'all know the Gravity Falls production bible that leaked three weeks ago. Someone in one of my discord servers pointed this out:
Tumblr media
And, naturally, that spawned an entire AU.
AU Concept: Ford was kicked out instead of Stan and takes a job as a trucker to makes ends meet since he couldn't go to college, while still studying the weird and anomalous however he can.
Tumblr media
Ford driving around from quirky small town to quirky small town, drifting through the liminal spaces of truck stops, meeting odd people in isolated diners, seeing strange things out on the road—a deer with too many eyes bounding across a two-lane highway, a flirty woman at a rest stop who doesn't blink or breathe, mysterious lights in the sky at night, inhuman growls on the CB or 50-year-old broadcasts on the radio—and taking notes when he stops for gas or food.
Aside from having gotten kicked out before graduating high school, Ford's the same person he is in canon.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He's still an ambitious guy, and here "ambitious" means working hard and saving as much money as he can—so, a long haul owner-operator who spends weeks at a time on the road. (He goes through a LOT of educational audiobooks.) Plus, this is the easiest way for him to get to travel the country; and since it looks like his "travel the world" dreams with Stan are dead, he'll take what he can get.
Since he's never in the same spot long and carries his life in a truck, almost all of Ford's research is in his journal. His bag of investigation supplies has an instant camera, a portable tape recorder, a thermometer, a flashlight, rubber gloves, and a few zip lock bags—and that's about it. It has to share space with all his clothes, toiletries, and nonperishable food when he's on the road. He doesn't have much opportunity to closely examine anything odd he finds, unless he's lucky enough to run into something when he can stop for the night. He has to cram his paranormal research around the side of his full-time job.
He doesn't live in Gravity Falls, but he knows it exists. Every time he moves—to Chicago, to Nebraska, to California—he seems to inch closer. He currently lives in Portland and usually hauls loads between the Pacific Northwest and Chicago or New York. He stops at the truck stop outside Gravity Falls when he can and has gone fishing in town a few times. He doesn't have the benefit of extensive research to know that this is the weirdest town in the world; but it seems pretty weird to him, there are local rumors about the town, and he's had some weird experiences in the area.
Tumblr media
Plus, he can't explain it, but it's like the town's calling to him. He wants to move there, but it'd put him over an hour outside of Portland where the nearest jobs are. Maybe if somebody chucked him like $100k to build a cabin in the woods; but what are the odds of that?
He does know Fiddleford. Truck broke down somewhere and Fiddleford kindly pulled over to fix it on the fly. They looked at each other, had mutual knee-jerk "dumb trucker/hillbilly" reactions, and within ten minutes both went "oh wait you're the most brilliant genius i've ever met." Fiddleford's living the same life he was in canon before Ford called him to Gravity Falls—with his family in California, trying to start a computer company out of his garage—but they make friends and keep in contact.
One time Ford stops at a kitschy roadside knickknack store that also sells new agey magic things—crystals, tarot cards, incense, etc. He bought a "lucky" rearview mirror ornament that looks like an Eye of Providence in a top hat and hung it from his cab fan, and ever since then he's had weird dreams whenever he sleeps in his truck.
Tumblr media
Things I don't know yet: what Stan's up to; or why Ford's the one who got kicked out. I tend to believe that in canon Stan wasn't just kicked out because he ruined Ford's college prospects, but rather because the family thought he deliberately sabotaged Ford; so in this AU, Ford would've been kicked out over a proportionate crime.

Saw @artsymeeshee hospital sketches of the sea grunks and thought to myself, is this finally my time to write some brotherly angst for these two? The answer is yes. Short but sweet, please enjoy.
******************************
The first thing Stan becomes aware of is the noise.
A constant beeping right next to his ear. Loud and high-pitched and repetitive and unfortunately very familiar to an old grifter with bad luck like him. He would be a lot more annoyed with this sound if his last clear memory wasn't of roaring waters rushing past his ears, stealing his hearing and leaving nothing but white noise behind.
He'd rather take the beeping.
Next comes taste, which, ugh! He could have gone without that! The feel of scratchy sheets is not much better but it tells him that he is in one of the better hospitals. Believe it or not, the better the hospital, the scratchier the sheets. Ford should cool it with the mystical beasts and research what's up with that!
Speaking of Ford.
Stan keeps his breathing even as he slowly opens his eyes. The light has been dimmed in anticipation and he blinks a couple times at a ceiling that is painted a nondescript beige color. He looks at it for a moment and for some strange reason he suddenly feels a fierce urge to video call Mabel.
But first things first.
Stan slowly turns his head to the side which actually hurts. Don't they have him on the good stuff?
Just as he expected, there is his brother. Ford has squeezed himself into the same bed as Stan, facing his brother's prone form. Stan can't help but smile. His brother must have bullied the nurses into letting him stay. The bed is way too small for two grown men but somehow the genius has managed to practically fold himself into a compact ball, leaving enough room for all those fancy machines connected to the patient. One of his hands lightly rests against Stan's chest which he hasn't even noticed until now.
Ford's eyes are closed but he is mumbling under his breath, reciting one of his journal entries from memory.
Stan winces. His brother must be really rattled by this little mishap.
‘Great job giving the guy another thing to worry about, Stanley!’
“I think climbing into the hospital bed with the patient is against the rules, Sixer? You are not supposed to do that.”
He was going for levity and humor but his hoarse voice kinda ruins that.
Ford's eyes don't snap open. He doesn't gasp or jerk upright or anything like that. Instead he takes a shuddering breath and deliberately opens his eyes. They find Stanley immediately and there is not a hint of surprise in them. Stan wonders how long Ford has known that he's awake.
“Same to you,” Ford says and his voice is so flat it causes a shiver to run down Stan's spine.
“Hey, s’not like I planned for this to happen.”
“I would be very cross with you if you had planned falling overboard, Stanley.”
Ford's emotions still feel weirdly flat. He isn't even lecturing and scolding Stan for his reckless behavior, just presses his six-fingered hand against his chest and stares at him with those blank eyes.
“I'm alright.” Stan shifts so he can face his brother and, damn, those ribs are definitely cracked. He briefly wonders if that happened in the fall or whether someone had to do CPR on him and quickly decides that maybe he doesn't want to know. Close call. Much too close. “I'm alright, Ford,” he repeats as if that makes it true.
For the first time an emotion flickers through Ford's face. He narrows his eyes and for a moment Stan thinks he's angry but then a single tear runs down an unshaven cheek, immediately seeping into the pillow.
“I thought I lost you for good,” Ford whispers, voice tortured. “I couldn't find you. For the longest time. I looked and I looked and you were just… gone. I couldn't find you!”
‘Same to you,’ Stan echoes with a bit of a bitter edge, mind replaying thirty years of hunching down in a dusty basement in a matter of seconds.
But this is not about him and Stan is, no matter what some might want to tell you, not an insensitive asshole.
“You did find me,” he says. He doesn't actually know if that's true. The time after he fell into the ocean during that storm is still a bit of a mystery to him. All he remembers is the noise of the water and how cold he felt and a voice screaming his name, over and over, growing fainter with each wave crashing over his head.
But Ford needs some reassurance right now. And the best way to reassure Ford that Stan is alright is by proving his alrightness with a good, old Pines hug.
He lightly pulls at the hand on his chest and with a cut off gasp Ford immediately obliges, scooting closer until they are entwined with one another just like they were as kids when the nightmares became too much to remain separated by a bunk bed.
“You found me.” Stan repeats and ignores the tears soaking into his hospital gown.
‘That's what we do,’ he thinks with a content smile, eyes falling shut with exhaustion. ‘We always find each other again.’
