Daddy. Erm... Daddy. *Cough, clears throat* DADDY! ARGH!!!
Your Dad Will Do - Katee Roberts
Book 1 of 4 in A Touch of Taboo Series
Pub. - April 23, 2020
Self-published
Genre - Dark Romance
4.5/5.0 stars out of 2,853 ratings on Amazon
150 pgs.
The title of this book says it ALL! Katee Roberts has a gift for transforming anyone reading her books into a massive ball of nerves aching for any type of release. This book was written so well that from the first page, this reader was enthralled until the story was finished… less than twenty-four hours later.
Before I get into the negatives, I want to SCREAM from the rooftops… this book is amazing. I highly recommend reading it IF the reader enjoys taboo scenes of a sexual nature. On a steaminess scale of sex to non-erotic scenes is 9.7/10. With this scale, I mean that there is .3 of the time the scene is non-erotic.
By the time you are finished reading this book, you will be a massive ball of overly sensitized nerves. Prepare thyself!
Unfortunately, a major detraction from the beauty of Katee Roberts’s writing was that there was a lack of non-erotic scenes. There was not a build of Shane and Lily feelings, it was more of a BOOM! BAM! THANK YOU, MA’AM! which resulted in “I love you” from the two characters.
I feel as if this book would have greatly benefited from a preface to the main event. For instance, it would have been a benefit to the reader to see the interactions between the two main characters prior to them succumbing to their wants. I do not think that it is imperative for the reader to witness the act between Lily’s ex and his secretary. This would have muddied the reader’s thoughts when it came to the relationship that was blossoming between Shane and Lily.
I would have loved to have seen more after what was the last chapter. The ending was SO abrupt that I had to make sure I did not skip any pages in between because I just did not understand why it was so… Boom. Done. Over. Time to move on.
NOW… I only learned this after beginning my research into Katee Roberts, but… there is another short story about Shane and Lily called Your Dad Will Do Bonus Short. Originally this story was published through Patreon in August of 2020. I have not been able to find this story for purchase as of yet.
SHHHHH! I have an interesting tidbit to share about this author… SHE HAS A PEN NAME! If you like Katee Roberts’s writing then make sure to check out her other stories penned under the name Kat Taylor!
I really can’t wait to talk with yall again,

Could you write Negan x Reader where Y/n was Shane's wife before he died, and she's like mother to Judith (the kid even calls her mommy). When Judith starts hanging out with Negan, Y/n finds her in the gardens talking to him about how he would fall in love with Y/n if he met her. Y/n joins them arms crossed over her chest with a smile and all of the things Judith said to Negan were true and he starts to fall for her 🥰
Yes! Here it is! I hope you enjoy! Request OPEN!!!! 🖤🖤  I changed it up just a little bit, but it still has everything you asked for!!
⚠️Request open!! ⚠️
Warnings: Shane cheating on reader with Lori, Judith playing match maker, cussing maybe, walkers, rough day.
Shane and (Y/n) Walsh, together before the end of the world. When the world ended the two were still together. (Y/n) never thought anything could get in their way. Nothing did, until she found out he was cheating on her with Lori.
(Y/n) was heart broken. She cried and then she blamed herself. Thinking she did something wrong for him to cheat on her. She thought maybe he stopped loving her a while ago. But before she told him she knew he was cheating he act as if nothing was wrong. He would tell her he loved her, but his eye spoke a different story every time.
When she found out Lori was pregnant that was the end of the relationship.
She pulled Shane out of the house when she noticed Lori talking to herself about being pregnant.
“How the fuck could you?!” (Y/n) spat as she jerked him to face her.
She felt so betrayed. The man she had loved since high school, was the father to someone else’s kid. Not to her child, they didn’t have one. He always claimed they weren’t ready. Or that they didn’t have enough time to take care of one.
“What?” He was confused. He was either playing dumb or he didn’t know.
“Lori, she’s pregnant with your fucking kid!” She harshly spat, looking at the man she loved.
“What?” Shane looked at his wife, well ex-wife, confused.
“She’s pregnant, I just heard her talking to herself.” Shane looked at (y/n) and then towards the house. He went to reach out and touch her, but she jerked away before he could even touch her.
“Don’t you ever touch me again!” She had tears rolling down her Y/s/t  face as she looked heart broken.
“We were happy before all of this. Were we not?! We were together for years before the world went to shit! You loved me! You told me you loved me! Was it all a lie?” She was sobbing, he could feel, and see, her heart breaking into a million pieces.
“Y/n, bab- baby. Please.”
“No! You don’t get to call me that.” She yelled looking into his brown eyes. He was crying as well, but he was heart broken for another reason. He wasn’t upset because he loved her. He was upset because he got caught.
“Don’t touch me. Do you ever touch me again. Don’t even talk to me. I ca- can’t do this.” She cried, walking away from the love of her life.
That was years, and years ago. She never did love anyone else. She took care of the small baby, that grew up to be Judith Grimes. Y/n knew that baby wasn’t Ricks. Rick knew that too, but he still was the small girls father.
When Lori was giving birth at the prison she apologized to Y/n. Telling her she was so sorry for everything she had done to her. She asked Y/n to raise the baby as if it was her own. And that she did.
Judith called Y/n, mom. She loved Y/n as if she was her mom. Y/n took care of Judith, she made sure she had food and water. Even if it meant she had to go without food and water for a while.
She made sure when Judith was old enough she could take care of herself. She made sure if she died that Judith could protect herself.
Y/n was a mother to both the grimes kid. But Judith was the only one who called her mom.
As Judith got older in Alexandria y/n taught her home to read and write. She schooled her, sometimes she would let Judith go to the school there in Alexandria, but that was only if she could go with. She was scared something would happen.
After the war with the Saviors, Negan got locked up in the jail of Alexandria. Judith would sneak down to see him every day. Sometimes she wouldn’t go since her mom would invite her to go out on a small run, not to far out of Alexandria.
Judith would tell Negan about her mom, Y/n. She told him all about her. How Y/n saved her from a horde of walkers coming through the prison. How she raised Judith and Carl and sacrificed everything she had for them both. Even how she was threatened and beaten to protect the two grimes children. Y/n was always to the one to protect Judith and Carl. No matter what. On more than a few occasions she was ready to sacrifice herself for them.
One evening the sun was getting low in the evening. Not yet setting, but was getting low. The evening was feeling nicer then the unforgiving summer heat and humidity of Virginia.
Judith was in the garden with Negan just watching him work and telling him all about her mom. Negan was listening the whole time. He enjoyed the company and was okay the kid was his only form of company.
“You would like my mom if you met her. She’s really nice and beautiful.” Judith smiles as she spoke about her mama.
“She’s strong, she took care of me and my older brother Carl for years. Ever since the beginning really. Well Carl from the beginning, I came a couple months later.” The girl giggled as she stared at Negan working.
Negan put the last tomato plant in the ground covering it with water, then looking up at the girl.
“Well, maybe one day I’ll get the chance to meet your mom.” He told her with a soft smile. Judith nodded as she handed the man a cold water. The only reason she was suppose to be there anyway.
Y/n had just came back on a tough run. She got caught in a small horde of walkers. She was alone so she had to take them all by herself.
She was covered in blood. Head to toe. She was so wore out and needed a shower, but needed to find Judith. She thought about going to find the gir first, but decided against it. Thinking she might scare her.
She decided on a quick shower. She put her clothes to the side to wash and got in. She scrubbed the dried crust blood off he body and washed her hair. After the shower she dried off and got dressed. She ran a brush through her (curly/straight/wavey) y/h/c hair. Putting on some boots, she went out her house to find her daughter.
Her first place to look was the school. Judith was always there in the library reading, but she wasn’t there. So then she asked someone and they pointed her to the garden. Thanking them she made her way to the gardens.
“Jude!” Y/n called as she made her way to the gardens. She just wanted to hug her kid and calm her crazy nerves. The day she had made her just want to find her daughter and make sure she was okay.
“Momma, I’m over here!” Judith called as she waved at her mom. Y/n nodded as she walked on the far corner of the garden.
“Jude, I hope you aren’t bothering him.” Y/n told her daughter in earshot.
Negan chuckled as he looked at the woman walking towards them.
He’s seen Y/n before. They’ve never really met, but he’s seen her around.
“She isn’t she’s just giving me some company.” Negan responded with a soft smile.
“Negan, this is my mom, Y/n. Mom, this is Negan.” Judith introduced the two. Y/n smiled looking at Negan before looking at Judith.
After Judith introduced the two y/n hugged Judith. Negan could tell there was something wrong, but he didn’t want to bring it up.
“What is it, mommy?” Judith asks, while Y/n was holding her extra tight.
“Just a rough day is all. Nothing for you to worry about. But I need you to get a shower before supper. So why don’t you go do that. You can talk to Negan tomorrow.” Judith frowned at her mom earning a chuckle from Negan.
“Go on, kid. It’s fine. I’ll see you tomorrow.” Judith nodded and smiled at her mom.
“I’ll go shower and you two can talk.” She was making a plan.
“I’ll see you tomorrow, Negan!” Judith called as she started running out of the garden back home.
“I’m sorry I had to bust in here. I-I was just having a rough day.” Y/n started to explain. Kicking a rock with the toe of her boot.
“I understand,” he started looking into her Y/e/c eyes. Y/n nodded shyly as he spoke.
“She’s told me a lot about you. How you took her in and raised her and Carl. Takes a lot of balls to raise your husbands side chicks kid.”
Y/n nodded, agreeing with him as the two of them walked towards the exit of the garden.
“Yeah, it does. But I honestly don’t know what I would do without those kids. They help me keep going in this life.” Y/n spoke softly watching with a smile, as Judith watches them from a distance.
“Well, from what I can tell everything she said was true. You are a badass woman.” He flirted with his famous smirk.
“Yeah, well I just did what I had to do to keep the kids alive. Whether badass or not.” Y/n explained as Negan shut the gate of the garden.
After a little while if talking Judith came running back. Looking at her mom and Negan with a smile.
“I thought I told you get a shower?” Y/n looked down at Judith as she was shaking with so much excitement.
“Can Negan come eat supper with us? Please?! Please?!” Judith jumped while asking.
“I don’t know, he might have some plans this evening and”
“I don’t have any plans for this evening.” He cut her off, giving Judith a small smile and wink.

“My mom makes the best homemade pizza ever! That’s what we’re having tonight!” Judith smirks as her mom looked over at her with a look she didn’t know what it meant.
“Well, Negan, if you want you can come over and have supper with us.”
“I’d be glad to. I just need to shower before I do.” Negan said with a soft smile. Y/n nodded as Judith held onto her moms hand.
“Well, be at our house in an hour.” Judith said as she grabbed her moms arm.
“Nice meeting you Negan. I guess I’ll see you in an hour.” Y/n spoke with a smile in her voice. She couldn’t lie, she was excited to have such a handsome man come for supper. But she was still kinda nervous. It wasn’t a date. It’s not a date. That’s what she kept telling herself.
Y/n finally got Judith to get a shower and get ready for supper. She was fixing the homemade pizza when there was three knocks at the door. Cleaning her hands off on the towel she went up to answer the door.
She opened the door to see Negan there holding a bouquet of freshly picked flowers from the gardens in one hand and a bottle of wine in the other. He wore his worn leather jacket, a black t-shirt, jeans, and boots. He was freshly shaved and had his hair combed back away from his face.
“Negan, you look good.” She said, subconsciously looking down to the outfit she had on. Only a baggy t-shirt and ripped jeans.
“Thank you, you look beautiful as always.” He said with a smile. She shyly smiled as she moved a piece of her hair out of her face.
“Come on in.” She invited him in with a smile as she opened the door more.
“Thank you, these are for you. I figured I couldn’t come by empty handed.” He smiled as he handed her the wine and flowers. She smiled softly and took them. Giving him a small smile.
“The pizza is almost done. I hope you like (fav. type of pizza) pizza.” Y/n grabbed a vase putting the flowers in it and then water from the tap.
“Oh, yes ma’am. That’s my favorite kind of pizza.”
“So, have you been in Ricks group since the beginning?”
“Yeah, but I knew Rick before all this stuff happened.” Y/n answered Negans question as she placed the pizza in the oven to bake.
“Oh really?” He asked as he watched her buzz around the kitchen. She pulled two wine glasses from the cabinet and placed them on the counter. Taking a cork screw she opened the wine with a pop!
“Mom, I’m going to dads. I’ll see you tomorrow.” Judith called as she tried to dart out the door quickly.
“What?! Don’t go out that door, Judith Grimes!” She called as she chased after Judith.
“What?” Judith asked as she grabbed the door knob looking up at her mom.
“I’m going to dads. He told me I could and plus Dad, Michonne, RJ, and me are gonna play a couple board games together. Dad told me he was fine with it. So, you two can enjoy your evening together.” Judith said with a smile. She gave her mom a quick hug and kiss. Then winked at Negan before darting out the door. Shutting it behind her as she did.
“Did you know about this?” She looked at Negan confused as she pointed over her shoulder to where her daughter just left out of.
He shrugged hiding a smirk as the door flew open. Almost hitting Y/n.
“Please leave me a slice of pizza.” Then she was gone again.
Well I guess this was a date.
After that Y/n pulled the baked pizza out of the oven. She cut the pizza in served two slices to both her and Negans plate.
“This is so good!” Negan moaned as he ate another piece of the pizza.
“Thanks, it was my moms recipe.” She said with a smile.
“Well, damn, that woman knew what she was doing.”
Y/n chuckled as the two continued to eat. As the night went one they continued to talk, eat, and drink. They didn’t drink enough to get drunk, but they both had a good buzz.
It was getting late when Negan started to leave. Y/n walked him to the door as he did so.
“Well, I had a nice time. Thank you for coming over. We’ll have to do this again.” Negan smiled as he nodded.
“We will, thank you for having me. I had a great time talking.” Y/n nodded as he looked at her lips and then y/e/c eyes.
She knew what he wanted and she replicated the feelings.
He moved in kissing her softly on her lips. It was the first kiss she shared with someone since Shane all those years ago. She felt as if she was on cloud 9! By the time they pulled apart the two were slightly out of breath.
“I’ll see you around, yeah?”
She nodded as she spoke. “Yeah, I’ll see you later.”
And from then on a relationship bloomed between the two. Thank God for Judith playing match maker, am I right? 😉

i got tagged by @jensmisha for the 20 lines meme! Rules: List the first lines of your last 20 stories (if you have less than 20, just list them all!). See if there are any patterns. Choose your favorite opening line. Then tag 10 of your favorite authors!
lines under the cut
20. “It would be,” Evie hesitates, searching for the right word, “inadvisable,” she settles on, “for you to continue on with Jacob.” damn fine day to tell the truth; Freddy/Jacob, Evie/Henry; as much as i enjoy the Freddy/Jacob dynamic, i never understood why fandom makes them so sappy (i don't begrudge it! i just don't understand it).
19. There’s this space, an Other Space, the In-Between, that Assassins have learned to inhabit – not quite a new plane of existence, but not quite the one their world exists on either, but between the two. liminality; Assassins Creed (movie); Callum/Moussa; this is me trying to explain why we get target confessions.
18. “I wish I could say it’s good to see you,” Naz says, looking at the familiar face, “but it has been one hell of a fucking day.” when i look in my window; The Night Of/Assassins Creed fusion; Freddy/Nasir; this is an incredibly niche and self-indulgent fic lmao
17. A thousand children sing, calling on the baby shark, and then a thousand more. it's the end (doo doo doo doo doo doo); Nursery Rhymes; part of the 'things that go bump' challenge - Baby Shark turns out to be prophetic.
16. “Just us, right, big guy? Us against the world?” feel it (screaming); BFU; Ryan/Shane; ex-zombies and rehabilitation and finding your place in a world that still sees you as a monster.
15. Acceptance. It’s all Barry wants— to write with blood of force; Barry; Barry/NoHo Hank; wing au where people are judged by the wings they have.
14. Croc yanks GQ in, curls around him, protects him from the worst of the blast. take my hand through the flames; Suicide Squad; Croc/GQ
13. There’s blood under Ryan’s fingernails and blood in his teeth and he makes no excuse to the posse that surrounds him, rope in hand. ballad of a law abiding sophisticate; BFU; Ryan/Shane; Demon Shane comes across Demon Hunter Ryan and "saves" him from a posse.
12. They call themselves the Olxol and they can bend space and time and, judging from the reports from Earth, they have no interest in being friends. moonlight raising from the grave; Star Trek AOS; est. and bonded Kirk/Spock; the Enterprise crew is sent back in time but scattered and the effects on Jim and Spock's bond are catastrophic.
11. Jake looks so much like his father that it breaks Trevor’s heart. like i'm looking from a distance; Pacific Rim/The Daily Show RPF; Trevor Noah/Stacker Pentecost; look, Trevor makes a lot of Idris-Elba-will-one-day-be-my-baby-daddy jokes so I took it and ran with it then sprinkled it with some angst.
10. Danny moves to Alola, landing in Hau’oli City of Melemele Island, with only Stoutland and Herdier and Emolga. got a monster for your pocket; H50; Steve/Danny; Pokemon/H50 fusion
9. Shane hates the humans who come traipsing through his woods – calling for him even as they yelp at the sound of songbirds. let's talk some foot; BFU; Ryan/Shane; Bigfoot Shane AU
8. There’s a soft and distant rumbling that wakes Ryan, then the ground shakes and the floors give out beneath him and he thinks he screams. to the end of the world if you wanted to; BFU; Ryan/Shane Highlander Immortals AU where they're separated during the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and Shane comes down with a bad case of amnesia that lasts for a hundred years.
7. They’re eleven years old on the day Boyd Crowder declares himself Raylan’s alpha and Raylan punches him in the face for it. i (i had me a boy); Justified; omegaverse Boyd/Raylan
6. Boyd’s always been the snake under Raylan’s pillow. your mouth is poison (your mouth is wine); Justified; Boyd/Raylan; metavorical imagery of Boyd swallowing Raylan every night. For reasons.
5. In times of peace, sons bury their fathers. in times of peace (in times of war); vaguely DCEU/Titans; Bruce/Clark, Clark & Batkids; they've all had to bury someone.
4. “This is not a good idea,” Clark says. all the twitters; DCU/DCEU/Titans; Bruce/Clark, Clark & Batkids; the Batfamily as seen through a series of videos shot by Tim.
3. It hurts. the light, the mark, and the chainsaw; Lucifer; just a quick drabble post-s03e13.
2. The first time they meet, he’s still going by Cain and the mark on his arm is still raw. i don't care (i love your stare); Lucifer; Lucifer/Marcus, au where this isn't Lucifer's first time to earth and he and Cain meet throughout the ages.
1. In a different life, Raylan never leaves Harlan and he dies in a cave-in at nineteen. i'm a mother now (it's really changed my perspective); Justified; omegaverse Raylan/Boyd
If you're saying I pick favorites, you're wrong, I love all my fics equally!
(bolded titles are my favorite, but my most special favorite is probably feel it (screaming) because I could've continued writing that one until it was 50k of just angsty word vomit)
As far as patterns go, well idk? I do tend to use my first lines as my summaries though. First and last lines are the most important part of a fic - or, really, any story; if those are weak, then your reader may not stick around.
um, i can't really remember who all i follow on here, so if you're an author and you're reading this then consider yourself tagged!

The Right Alpha pt. 2 (Drew/Reader/Roman A/B/O)
Summary: A/B/O action with Drew and Ro accompanied by real time plot lmao. No smut this time, but plenty of angst and fluff.
(A/N: I wanted to get this out for my birthday and for the 500 followers milestone last week but since I’m a lazy piece of shit who’s brain doesn’t work properly, I forgot lol. So here it is! Thanks once again for 500+ and let’s hope that I haven’t lost my marbles due to VKM’s crap by the next milestone. God bless @writinglionqueen and @writing-reigns for being my betas and my support system throughout this. Love y’all both! ^3^)
Tumblr media
Warnings: a lot of harassment/sexual harassment, brief flashbacks of the douchebag ex from the first part and Roman and Drew bc they should come with their own warning labels lmao
Word Count: 6728
Read part one here
(Y/n): your name
                                                       ~~~~~
“You sure you don’t need anything tonight?” Roman asked.
“Trust me, Ro, I’ll be fine,” you said, holding your phone to your ear as you walked towards the backstage door. Even though Ro was still scheduled to be at tonight’s show, he still had yet to show up to the arena. Duffel in hand, you shouldered the door open and were met with the bustling sounds of the production team and the stagehands prepping for that night’s SmackDown Live taping.
You heard him chuckle in your ear. “If you say so, baby girl. Love you.”
“Love you too, Big Dog.”
Your heart felt light as you ended the call, sighing to yourself and holding the phone to your chest. You’ve been floating on air since Roman and Drew confronted you in that hallway after RAW a few months ago and with the implementation of the new, albeit incredibly stupid, “wild card rule”, you were able to spend more time with your Alphas. For the first time since jumping ship to the blue brand thanks to the new rule, you felt…
...happy.
You were actually eager to come into work that day, mentally preparing for your tag match with Bayley against Alexa and Nikki Cross. Sporting one of the merch tees you stole from Ro and a pair of jean shorts, you tried to maneuver your way around everyone and make it to the women’s locker room in one piece. You tugged on it and bought the collar to your face, inhaling and smiling as the scent of your alpha washed over you.
You really have it bad, don’t you? you asked yourself, your thoughts taking over.
Yep, and I don’t mind one bit.
You didn’t notice the figure in front of you until you crashed into them nose-first, bashing your head against the back of theirs.
“Shit,” you said, pocketing your cell as you tried to speak with a mouth full of hair. “Sorry, I wasn’t paying attention!”
“It’s ok, girl. I shouldn’t have been standing around like an idiot,” the voice replied, their body turning to face you.
The now-revealed Smackdown Women’s Champ ran a hand through her long hair and smiled at you, taking her other hand off of her suitcase’s handle briefly to give you one of her iconic hugs. When you first transferred from the Monday show, the Beta was the first person to show you any sort of kindness. So, the two of you became fast friends, looking out for each other both in and out of the ring. “So, how’s my fave tag team partner doing?”
“I’m doing well, actually,” you replied as you started off on you way again, her trailing closely behind you. “SmackDown’s a lot more chill than Raw is, to be honest.”
She let out another short laugh. “You’re not wrong here, (Y/n), but the wild card rule keeps shaking everything up around here.”
“Ugh, tell me about it. If I keep having to see the same people getting pushed when there’s quality talent just sitting back here, I’m gonna pull my hair out.”
“I know, right? I’d love to face some of the other girls here, like Kairi or Ember,” she added, unzipping her dark grey hoodie.
You raised your brow at her suggestions and noted, “I would actually pay to see those matches happen.”
“Well, at least it hasn’t been all that bad lately. You still get to see your mates every day thanks to the rule,” she sighed in content and looked at you. “I’m literally so jealous of you. Two mates! How do you guys even function?”
You started to ramble on about your relationship with the two Superstars as the two of you continued to walk down to the locker rooms, but you soon noticed Bayley glancing at you funny.
“What?” you asked her, brushing yourself off. “Is there something on me? Is there something on my face?”
“Nah, there isn’t. I was just hoping that you were gonna get into the more… juicy details,” she cheekily wondered, a sly grin plastered on her face.
“B-Bayley! I’m not gonna gossip about my sex life here! There are three topics you don’t talk about at work: politics, religion, and sex!”
“Aww, come on, live a little!” the beta whined. “Just this one little thing? For me?”
She already knew the answer the moment she looked back at your face, pouting in defeat. She made a move for her pocket and paused, feeling around in it when her eyes went wide.
“What’s wrong, Bayley?”
Groaning, she answered, “My hair ties. I think I left them with that stagehand I bumped into when I got here about an hour ago. Can you wait for me here and watch my bag while I try to find them? I promise I won’t be gone for long.”
“Of course,” you responded as she handed her small suitcase over to you. She shouted a “thank you” in your direction as she ran off and turned a corner.
You dropped your duffel on top of her suitcase and pulled your phone back out and leaned up against the wall behind you, scrolling through your old texts as you drowned out the hustle and bustle around you. You opened your group chat with Drew and Ro, giggling at how they both complained about working with Shane and his behavior.
Reading through the messages, you didn’t notice the shadow that had just loomed over your body. A hand slapped the wall next to your head, but you didn’t want to look up. You didn’t want to look up because you already knew who it was.
Speak of the fucking devil.
“Hello, (Y/n).”
You could already hear the sickly sweet adoration dripping from his voice, but you still didn’t look at him when you responded. “What the hell do you want, Shane?”
“Woah there, Omega. Is that any way to speak to your boss? I feel offended,” he said, his voice still filled with endless loads of fakeness. You could smell the cockiness rolling off him in waves, so much so that you had to hold your breath whenever he was around. The hand on the wall was slowly moving closer to your head and you could hear it, and you hoped to whoever’s above that someone would do something about it.
But no one ever did.
You could feel your hands starting to tremble as he leaned closer to your face. “I was just gonna ask where your two big, bad Alphas were, sweetheart. There’s no harm in that.”
The weight of his leer felt like a brick pressing against your forehead and you kept getting whiffs of want her and mine that you sure as hell didn’t need today. The Alpha above you moved a piece of hair away from your face and chuckled at your hesitance, already familiar with it.
“Y-You should already know where Drew is, you prick. And Ro’s here as well. He’s just not… here… right now.”
Your wolf was going absolutely batshit at the sight of him, and the thought of him touching you made it even more ravenous.
Hit him! Tear into his smug face! Kick him in the balls! Tell him off! Do something already!
You could feel your teeth start to grow sharper as he chuckled again, his free hand descending to your waist while the other made its way to the back of your head. You could feel his gaze lingering in your cleavage, and you felt more exposed than before.
Why can’t he just leave me alone, for fuck’s sake?
“Oh, he’s not here right now? What a shame. Truly,” he said teasingly. Shane’s hands gripped you tighter as he pulled you closer to him, forcing you to look up at him and drop your phone to the floor with a clatter. His eyes were malicious, but they held in them a caring look so fake and plastic that it made you sick.
Your entire body shuddered as you looked into his empty eyes. “Yeah, he’s not here now. So, w-what do you want from me, S-Shane?”
It was still shocking how no one passing by saw him do this to you. It still shocked you how no one interfered with him tormenting you like this.
“You know what I want, (Y/n). Just say yes and I’ll go.”
Resisting the urge to scoff, you uttered, “The fucking answer’s still no and you know why.”
“Aww, come on, live a little!” he whined, mocking Bayley’s earlier comment and making you cringe. “I could show you a really fun time.”
He managed to pull you even closer to his chest and he leaned down to your ear. “Just picture it: a night out celebrating with me and Drew after beating your pathetic, waste of space mate to a pulp once again. And as the night grows even later, we could get more… intimate, if you will.”
Don’t say anything, you told your wolf despite the immediate pushback from it. Shane’s breath was near potent and you actually felt the need to eject a wave of vomit onto his Jordans. Keep quiet and don’t make this any worse for me.
“Plus, seeing as those two idiots haven’t even claimed you yet, I can show that Scottish dud how it’s really done.”
Gripping your hair, he yanked your head back and bashed your head on the wall, ogling at your unmarked neck while you hissed in pain. With your arms stuck against his body, his head fell and he drew his nose over the skin. “You’d love being mine, Omega. I’d treat you right, unlike those absolute brutes you have for mates.”
Don’t do anything because if you do, then you’ll bite his nose off and we’ll be out of a job.
“What do you say, (Y/n)? You wanna take this for a test drive?”
His wedding band started to dig into your side through your shirt and you yelped, telling him, “You shouldn’t be doing this, Shane. You’re married, right? And you have pups?”
He roared with laughter at your comment, and all you wanted to do in that moment was curl into a ball and hide with your mates at your side. He responded with a large grin, saying, “And what about it, sweetheart? She doesn’t have to know now, does she?”
Moving up to your jaw from your neck, his lips brushed against your cheek as he added, “And besides, you like knowing that, don’t you?”
Before he could move closer to your own mouth, his own phone rang and you thanked every deity in existence that he released you and moved away to take the call.
“We’ll finish this conversation later, (Y/n). I’ll see you around.”
Holding the phone to his ear, he brushed off his chest with his free hand and casually walked away, you looking bewildered as he did so. You felt nauseous and dirty, feeling your now sharpened nails digging into the palms of your hands as you curled them into fists.
You hated this.
You’ve hated it since he started this little “game” of his a month ago, and you sure as hell hate it now. You hated how easily he could corner you and make you feel as vulnerable and weak as a small child. And you couldn’t even do anything about it because he was your fucking boss!
Your wolf howled in anger, letting out kill and must tell mates with every other breath. Everything around you continued as normal, but you knew that it was far from it. Your eyes burned with the feeling of unfallen tears and you could feel your breath grow faint when a familiar voice reared in the background.
“Hey, (Y/n)! I’m back! Sorry I took so long, the stagehand wasn’t in the spot where I had found them originally and I had to go searching for them again but that took ages-”
Bayley stopped her mini rant and took a good look at you, your entire attitude seeming to deflate since she had left originally.
“Hey, are you okay?” the Beta asked you. “You look...sick. Like you’ve just seen a ghost or something.”
Blinking the tears away, you forced a laugh out and moved your hands behind your back. “It’s fine. I’m just… just a little nervous about tonight. It’s my first time going against Alexa and I want my first match with her to go well.”
“Well, I’m sure you’ll be fi- oh my god, (Y/n)!)”
You quickly looked around, eyes wide with shock. “What? What happened? What is it?”
“Your hands!”
“My wha- oh.”
Drops of blood were currently dripping from your fists and onto the floor, making small puddles at your sides. You didn’t feel the bite of your nails digging into your skin, but you chuckled nervously and tried to hide them again. She grabbed your wrists in one hand and reached for her bag with the other.
“We have to get these cleaned and wrapped before out match tonight. Come on!” she told you, hoisting your bag onto her shoulder and dragging you by your wrist to the medical personnel with her free hand.
~~~~~
“Haha, take that, Bliss! You’re never getting your hands on this!” Bayley exclaimed at the blonde as the woman clutched her sides at the champ’s feet, you raising her arm above her head in victory. Moments later, Nikki slid into the ring as soon as you two slipped out of it.
Bayley gave you a hug as she started to make her way up the ramp with her title held high, Bliss and Cross limping back up a few minutes later. You, however, walked in the direction of the announce table where an empty chair and headset were waiting for you. You gave a brief greeting to Graves, Saxton and Philips before situating yourself next to the first man.
The last match of the night was a one-on-one bout between Ro and Shane and as always, Shane cockily walked out to the ring with Drew in tow to the sounds of boos from the crowd and his “best in the world” introduction. Drew grabbed two mics for him and Shane before they both climbed into the ring, looking like they absolutely owned the place. It would’ve made you smile if it weren’t for him being the lackey at the likes of Shane.
Shane raised his to his mouth and was about to talk, but he was interrupted by the blaring sound of Roman’s theme. He came out with a smirk on his face and you could almost hear the thud of his boots as he stalked to the ring.
He threw you a wink when he made it to the ropes closest to you and you smiled, hearing the ref signal for the bell and seeing Shane immediately rush at him from behind. He threw his forearm into the back of Roman’s head and crippled him, making you gasp. Drew applauded at ringside and the two of you locked eyes.
You shuddered under his intense gaze and you quickly looked away just in time to see Shane stomping out Roman, your mate groaning as his heel connected with his chest. You glanced away from the match briefly to discuss other matters with your fellow commentators (minus Graves, of course) before turning back and seeing Shane glaring directly at you, the look in his eyes making feel nauseous as you wrap your arms around your torso.
He winked at you like Roman had, taking his time raking those eyes along your figure and Roman was quick to notice. The Samoan bared his teeth and growled as he began to let out his wolf and rose from the ring floor, charging at Shane and spearing his head into the ringpost he was closest to. As the grey-haired Alpha started to regain his senses again, he threw his chest back and howled with the rest of the Universe and speared Shane again. The match was over before you could even blink, and Roman quickly pinned the other Alpha to pick up the win.
Huh, Shane’s off his game tonight. Good, you thought as you heard the three-count and you stood to clap for your mate. Taking off your headset and thanking the three men at commentary, you made your way into the ring and took Roman’s arm to raise it.
You two quickly moved out of it and began walking up the ramp side by side, his arm thrown around your shoulders and your own wrapped around his waist. Glancing behind you, you saw the dirty look Shane threw you and you smiled internally at that, claiming it as a small victory over him.
He pulled you aside near some supply crates as you made it backstage, bringing you into his chest while you inhaled his familiar scent. It had momentarily calmed your nerves down, being there with him, but they were briskly replaced by a new feeling of dread when he moved your hands from around him and looked down at your bandaged hands.
“How’d this happen, Omega?” Roman asked, worry making his brows furrow. “Did you hurt yourself?”
He started to rub at where the skin of your palms would be as you answered him. “Yeah, I did. I was nervous my match and I didn’t notice my nails digging into my hands. Bayley bandaged me up well, so I should be fine.”
You and your own wolf felt bad for lying to him about them, but you didn’t need him going after Shane with a death wish in tow and getting fired because of it.
This is better, you assumed, seeing his eyes grow soft. It’s better for all of us.
“I’m just glad that you were able to pin Shane tonight,” You raised your hands to cup his face and he nuzzled himself into them, making you chuckle. “Lord knows he needs to be put in his place.”
Roman laughed as you said the last bit under your breath, squeezing your waist before lifting his hands to move yours from his face. “Speaking of Shane,” he questioned, looking down at you with concern in his warm brown eyes, “what was that wink all about during the match? Is there something you’re not telling me, baby girl?”
“What? No,” you scoffed, answering him quickly. “Shane’s just being his usual dickish self in order to get under your skin and make you mad. Nothing more.”
The quickness of your response made the Alpha quirk his brow for a second when he smelled hurt and shame wafting off of you but he brushed it off, agreeing with you. You rose onto your toes and planted a kiss to his cheek, saying, “Now, you wait for Drew here while I go and get our things ready, ok?”
You let go of him and began walking away, hearing him reply with a “yes ma’am” and pivoting on your heel to see him throw up a faux salute in your direction. His eyes lingered on you even as your figure grew smaller until you finally turned a corner.
Your heart wanted to fall out of your chest and flop around on the floor when he asked you about your hands, and even more so when he asked about Shane’s shitty excuse of a wink. But, you persisted, even though your wolf continued to berate you about the situation.
Lying will not make this better. Makes it worse for you and mates. You’ll see.
~~~~~
Since your tag match with Bayley against Bliss and Cross went over so well on SmackDown, you were told that you had to give a dual promo with the blonde Omega the next week on the red brand.
You arrived to the arena dressed in a casual black tank with some skinny jeans, your sweater tied around your waist. Since the skin on your hands was starting to heal and you didn’t want to encounter Shane again, you decided to take the longer route to the locker room instead, using as many of the hallways as you could. He was always lingering somewhere on both shows and was always eager to find you, and you weren’t taking any chances.
A few minutes had passed since you’d seen anyone and you let out a breath you didn’t even know you were holding in. Turning down another empty hall, you felt a presence trailing behind you as you walked, but you paid it no mind. Then, a rough hand grasped your shoulder and spun you around.
“Thought you could run away from me, little Omega?”
How in the absolute hell?!
Your eyes went wide when he spun you around and pinned your arms to your sides. Shane moved in closer and you had the incredible urge to just raise your head and scratch his face up with your teeth.
“H-How did you find me?”
His laughter bounced off the concrete walls, making your bones vibrate. “I told you last week that we’d finish our conversation later. And to me, ‘later’ means ‘right fucking now’.”
He laughed again at your lack of words, your mouth slightly agape and hyperventilating. You were smart in that you didn’t ball your hands up as to not puncture the skin of your palms again, but you were damn near close to.
You could feel his hands sliding up your bare arms and situate themselves at the base of your neck, his thumbs drawing figures along your collarbone. All you could see was his smug grin, complete with eyes that were filled with absolutely zero remorse for what he was doing.
“Why do you do this to m-me, Shane? What did I do to you?”
This caught his attention. “You haven’t done anything yet, but you will.”
Huh?
“Like I said numerous times before, you’ll need a real Alpha like myself to show you the ropes. You’ll need me to claim you and show you how to be a good-”
He talked to you as if you were an incompetent child, and his hold on you grew tighter with every word. You began to struggle and try to get yourself out and away from him, but to no avail.
This hurts.
“- obedient -”
Pain.
“- little Omega for me, (Y/n).”
Struggling became useless as your breathing became quicker and quicker with each passing second and you shut your eyes tight, feeling them shift along with your teeth. His words were reminiscent of those from your ex-lover, and you couldn’t help but see blood red all over at the sound of them.
All you could think of was how dirty your ex made you feel, putting you down constantly with his hurtful, disgusting actions and words, and he made you feel the exact same way that he had and you wanted him to. You had to physically hold yourself back from pouncing on him and dragging his face into the ground.
Get him now!
“Shane? Shane, where th’ fuck are ya? We’re on in thirty bloody minutes!”
Oh, thank the gods above.
Shane groaned and released you abruptly, causing you to stagger back. “Fucking hell, Drew.”
The large Scottish Alpha’s feet reverberated off the walls around you and he turned the corner closest to you two, looking around. He spotted you both and stomped over, clearly pissed off with Shane.
“What th’ hell, man?! Ya say you were gonna meet me here, an’ then you just rush out like a bat outta hell!”
Dressed in a simple white tee and jeans with a leather jacket on top, he curled his hands and growled, letting off more feral scents combined with his usual one. Through his frustration, he saw the glow of your shifting eyes and how much you were trembling, accompanied by the growing of your nails at your sides.
Eyes flickering between the two of you, he looked at the other Alpha and grimaced. “And what were ya doin’ all alone here with my mate, Shane? I thought I told ya she’s taken.”
The other man chuckled nervously as you cupped your neck, feeling the imprints from his fingers already beginning to bloom into small bruises.
“We weren’t doing anything, McIntyre. I just caught up with her and was just politely asking her a question about her new feud with Alexa. Isn’t that tight, (Y/n)?”
You nearly barfed at his piss poor attempt at being nice, but you decided to play along. “Yeah,” you murmured, willing your eyes to fade to their normal hue and your nails and teeth to shrink down. “We’re all good here.”
You feigned another laugh and quickly put your sweater on, zipping it up fully to keep your skin hidden. Drew looked as if he didn’t buy any of it but soon turned around, grabbing Shane by the collar and dragging him away.
“Woah, hey now, watch the shirt! This thing is worth more than your monthly salary!”
“Cut th’ shit,” the Scot grumbled, stomping away with him in tow. “We’re already running behind schedule and I don’t need t’ hear your daddy runnin’ his mouth at me again.”
And with that, the duo disappeared behind another wall, their voices fading into nothing while you stumbled back into the wall behind you, clutching your chest and feeling your heart race.
“Great,” you muttered, briskly walking in the opposite direction of them. “Hope the Glam Squad has enough concealer to cover these up.”
Your promo was one of the first segments of the night and you were finished with it relatively quickly, getting a fairly good reaction from the crowd when the other woman had come out to do her bit. You were glad everything went smoothly once you finished and when you finally got backstage, you started to make the journey back to get the remainder of your things and head back to the hotel.
You made it to the women’s locker room and shut the door, grabbing your sweater and bending down to stuff it into the bag you had Natalya bring for you. You got out your phone to text your mates and ask them when they were going to be finished when the door behind you creaked open, twin footfalls thudding on the floor. Their scent slowly filled the room surrounded you before you saw them and you relaxed your shoulders.
“Hey, are you guys finished for the night? I was gonna text you to see when you-”
You pivoted on your heel to face the two large Alphas with a grin on your face, Roman dressed in a long sleeved black tee and shorts and Drew in the outfit you saw him in earlier. They stared back at you intensely, Roman crossing his arms and Drew moving to go lock the door.
You shuddered under their intense glares, asking, “Is everything okay?”
Roman was the first one to speak, uncrossing his arms and walking over to you. He moved your bag and took your hand, sitting you down on the bench behind you as the Scot watched from the door.
“Me and Drew were talking earlier, and we feel like you’re hiding something from us, ‘mega.”
Oh, help me now.
“Me? Hiding something from you two?” you pondered, scoffing and chuckling anxiously. “Everything’s totally fine. Trust me.”
“And there it is again,” he shot back, “you’re doing that thing again. You’ve been acting skittish and dodging our questions for almost a month now. Why won’t you tell us what’s wrong?”
He was confused, and you could clearly see the hurt in his eyes when you looked into them. But you couldn’t bring yourself to tell them yet.
Do it.
“I mean, was it something that we said? Something we did?”
“N-No, of course not, Ro! You know you’d never do anything to hurt me! You both wouldn’t!”
You sighed and took your hands out of his, placing them on your head as your eyes fell to your lap. It took everything in you not to burst out into a fiery mix or rage and tears. “Look, I already told you guys before. It’s noth-”
A loud bang brought you back from your stupor and you yelped, jumping out of your skin and directing your attention to the door. Drew stood there with the side of his fist against the door, and there was a crack emulating from the impact.
“Enough of this, (Y/n). We’re your Alphas, your mates. You’re supposed t’ tell us when something’s up. Why’re ya hidin’ from us?” he whispered, his voice cracking near the end.
Drew didn’t really express his more sentimental emotions outright but when he did, it absolutely crushed you. You could see your mates hurting - feel them hurting - and they were slowly chipping away at your walls. The silence after he spoke was deafening and you knew that if a pin fell then, you would hear it.
Every second felt like a minute and every minute felt like an eternity until you opened your mouth again.
“I don’t want you both to think that I’m a bad Omega for not saying something sooner.”
Your soft voice prompted Drew to move away from the door and kneel down to your height, placing both of his hands on your thigh. “Leannan (sweetheart), nothing ya say right now will make us ever think that. You’re our mate, and ya should be able to tell us anything plaguin’ ya.”
“We love you, (Y/n), and we do care,” Roman added, moving his hand to cup your cheek. “You don’t have to tell us everything if it’s too much, but at least give us something.”
Tick.
Tick.
Tick.
Tick.
The fuse was lit.
Boom.
With that permission, you didn’t notice how quickly your body shifted into attack mode and you hastily stood, knocking your bag over.
“It’s fucking Shane’s fucking fault!” you barked, baring your teeth and nails to no one. “He keeps on stalking me and harassing me and bothering me and saying how much fucking better he’d be as my mate!”
You moved from the bench and began to pace the room, huffing and blocking out all outside noises as you continued to rant. “That little rich shitbag thinks he can do all of this over and over again with no consequence, and he thinks that he can just grab me and toss me around like I’m some useless thing! It makes me feel sick and dirty and… argh!”
The two Alphas jumped when you kicked a nearby locker, putting a dent in the shape of your foot in it. “I want to claw his eyes and scratch his smug stupid face! I hate it when he says that he’s gonna ‘show me the ropes’ and fucking claim me as his own when he’s got a whole wife and pups!”
You paused to catch your breath but you couldn’t stop the tears that were burning your eyes from falling. Your back hit the wall and you slid to the floor, cradling your face in your hands.
“I just… what did I do to deserve any of this?”
Your mates rushed to your sides as you cried, Drew holding you to his chest as you let the tears flow. You could feel Drew's heart beat faster and faster and you could feel Roman's heavy breathing on your neck.
The Samoan stood up and looked at your wrecked form, growling. You could see his eyes dilated and flash gold for a second before he turned away from you and unlocked the door, almost ripping it from its hinges as he stormed out with murder on his mind.
“Shane! Where the fuck are you, you bastard?! I’m gonna tear you apart!”
Oh fuck, you though, untangling yourself from Drew and getting up as quickly as you could to follow him. You two scrambled outside to find the wild Alpha and spotted him barreling through anyone who dared to get in his way as he continued to shout.
“Everyone get the hell out of my way! Where’s Shane?! I’m gonna fucking kill him!”
You ran after him, shoving past poor stagehands and other Superstars to get to your angered mate. Reaching him, you took his wrist and spun him around, seeing his eyes blown out to a full gold. His chest heaved with every harsh breath, and you could see veins popping out of his neck from how hard he was clenching his teeth.
“You see? This is why I didn’t tell you in the first place! I didn’t want you to go on a murder-happy fucking rampage and lose your damn job!”
“She’s got a point,” Drew added, firmly grasping Ro’s other wrist. “You need to think!”
He was having none of it. “He hurt my mate, our mate, and that waste of space needs to pay! I’ll find him and rip out his eyes myself.”
It scared you how aggressive he was when he meant it, but you stood your ground. “You’re not the only one who wants to kill that bag of human scum, Roman, but we do have to be smart about this.”
“We can deal with him next week,” you sighed. “Just… just calm down, please.”
No! Now! Get him now!
Drew nodded, agreeing with you and helping you to pull the other man back in the opposite go get the rest of your things even though he continued to try and escape. You smiled to yourself, though, at the thought of the things you were going to do to Vince’s son in the near future.
                                                          ~~~~~
For the next week, your two mates didn’t leave your side for a second, with Roman escorting you out to the ring for your match on SmackDown the next night and Drew acting as your personal bodyguard when the cameras weren’t rolling. They wouldn’t let anyone get near you, growling and baring their teeth at anyone who wasn’t a personal friend who dared to get in your personal space.
Monday came far too soon and the three of you arrived to the arena, game faces on as you waltzed in like your own little pack. They each had an arm around your waist with a hand in each of your back pockets, leering at everyone while you grinned.
Roman and Drew were already planned to have another in-ring bout prior to Extreme Rules, but they wanted to have you out for the main event as support. You already knew that Shane was going to be there, going ringside to cheer the Scotsman on and berate his opponent.
You all had your roles, you all had your positions. Now, it was just time to put it all into play.
As their match was the one to close out the night, you had to deal with hearing Shane’s long introduction when him and Drew went through the curtain. You watched them travel to the ring and you saw the Scottish Alpha’s hand twitch, eager to get his large hands on the man next to him.
Shane continued to rant before you and Roman cut him off, trekking down to the ring to meet him. He swiftly ducked under the ropes as Ro approached him but he smiled at you when he saw you, instantly making you sick to your stomach.
Gripping his elbow, you whispered, “You know what to do, right?”
“Of course I do, baby girl,” he replied, brushing you off. “I got this.”
He smirked at you, climbing up the steps and under the ropes. The bell rang and the match began with the two men locking into each other in the middle of the squared circle, Drew quickly getting Roman into a headlock and bringing him down to one knee.
He managed to shove the larger man off of him and into the ropes to throw his forearm into his clavicle and drop him down with a thud. Roman roared as a “Let’s go, Roman!” chant erupted from the crowds. You applauded him and Shane sneered, creeping closer to the ropes like a rat to freshly tossed food.
The match went on for several minutes, each filled with blows delivered and taken by both Superstars. Drew took a harsh Driveby from Ro on the edge of the ring and you were almost certain that he had been knocked out, had it been for the groan he made when he reached up to rub at his head.
It quickly turned to the Samoan being on the receiving end of most of the blows when Drew landed a nasty Glasgow Kiss to his skull, dropping him like a fly. He dragged the fallen wrestler to the middle of the ring, standing above him menacingly.
“Pin him! What are you doing, man? Just pin him already and get it over with!”
Shane’s loud voice could be heard above all else and you prayed that Roman would get up and walk it off like it was nothing. Instead, Drew chuckled and ducked out of the ring, walking around it to come face to face with the McMahon. As the older Alpha continued to go on and on, your mate threw the fastest right hook you’ve ever seen, making Shane plummet to the floor like a stone in water.
You looked around at the shocked faces of the commentators as well as various members of the WWE Universe, but you didn’t expect the roaring cheer that one move got.
He kneeled down to his level and proceeded to pumble the man further, driving fist after fist and hit after hit into him. You were full-on belly laughing at that point, noting how comical it was to see the once high and mighty Shane McMahon who had cornered you numerous times be put in a similar, vulnerable position.
It was beautiful.
Hearing the newfound commotion, Roman arose from his spot on the ring floor akin to the Undertaker and the crowd went wild once more. He got up and ran to the ropes behind him, bouncing back from them and diving over the set in front of him, Drew moving so he wouldn’t get hit.
Shane’s head struck the ramp below and began bleeding as his face and body grew battered and bruised. The two men towered above him and rained down blows and kicks galore, and you wished you had a phone with you to record the magic happening. They then hooked an arm under one of his and hoisted him up from the ground, looking at you gleefully.
It was your time to shine, your chance to get your licks in.
“Go on, leannan!” Drew shouted, a wide, wicked smile plastered on his face. “Show this ugly bastard what’s for!”
Roman laughed alongside him. “Show ‘im your spitfire, Omega! Make him pay for what he did to you!”
Make him pay.
You roared, baring your sharpened teeth and charged at the silver-haired man, landing a solid dropkick to the middle of his chest. He fell with an “oof” and laid there like a limp ragdoll, but you weren’t going to let that deter you from having your own fun.
“If you ever-”
Punch.
“-ever-”
Another punch.
“-ever-”
One more for good measure.
“-think about touching me or talking useless crap about my mates again, I will fucking. End. You!”
With every word let out, you let out led to another hit to his body, your feet flying everywhere they could reach. After a solid five minutes of you three tossing him around and beating him to a pulp, you landed a fine tuned pointed-toe kick to his crotch. He crumbled to the ground, clutching his body as you and your mates looked on victoriously.
You could barely hear yourself think over the commotion going on around you, but you didn’t care. You got your payback. You all did and if he tries some shit like that again, you’ll be bound to pay him back again by a ten-fold.
You raced up the ramp to meet your lovers at the head, raising their arms to signal your win against Shane’s bullshit. You felt a weight being lifted off of your chest and you felt relieved for the first time in over a month.
Karma really is a beautiful thing, isn’t it?

Just a Rebound Chapter 2 (biadore) - Mermaid Tail and Wild Thursdays
Chapter summary: Roy discovers Jonathan’s big secret, Danny comforts his crush through the hardships.
Mermaid Tail’s A/N: I love this chapter even though it literally broke my heart to write it because thinking about sad Roy is just too much for my obsessive heart. Writing with Wild Thursdays has brought me so much joy as well as the friendship I thought I wasn’t capable of. Regardless of anything, I love you so much, like beyond words girl. All I can say is I love you nearly as much as I love Bianca- that’s saying something. Anyway, now that I’m done being mushy, enjoy this chapter my beautiful readers. Okay…that was kind of mushy too, I’m just in that mood.
Wild Thursday’s A/N: I literally cannot respond to the kindness of Mermaid Tail’s author’s note. She’s a real sweetheart. Now enjoy the chapter while I go sob in the corner!
“I’m going for a shower.” Jonathan said, gently removing Roy’s arm from around his waist.
“Okay, my love.” Roy smiled, he felt so content in that moment. “Don’t be too long baby, we have dinner reservations at seven…”
“I know.” Roy sensed that his partner’s voice had a hint of boredom and frustration to it, but he quickly shook those negative thoughts from his head. This was going to be the romantic break they would be remember for the rest of their lives. Roy would make sure of it. He reached up for a kiss, but Jonathan had already turned his back and started to walk into the bathroom.
Roy’s head fell back against the pillows as he smiled to himself. He really was the perfect man for him. Jonathan made him laugh until he couldn’t breath but he was also kind, considerate, loving and so fucking gorgeous. He had everything going for him, Roy could not believe his luck that such an amazing gentleman had stumbled into his life.
Roy was just led there, when Jonathan’s phone started to ping, rather a lot. He glanced over at the phone, it was a notification sound he didn’t recognise almost as though Jonathan had changed the noise from the default.
“Hey, honey! You have a lot of messages. Everything okay?” Roy shouted into the bathroom.
“Oh, I’ll reply later, don’t worry baby. This is our time, the last thing we both want to do is look at our phones. You have too much time to scroll through social media on tour anyway!” Jonathan shouted back. Roy immediately felt guilty, he did spend a lot of time on his phone when he was on tour but you really had to do something to make those long plane and bus journeys go a bit faster.
Roy leant over slightly glancing at his boyfriend’s phone, it was purely out of curiosity. He just wanted to make sure that if it was one of his friends, they were okay. After all why else would someone send a few messages in quick succession?
BABY: How’re doing?
Roy couldn’t put a finger on it, but something felt off. It wasn’t the pet name, he called most of his friends, especially Shane and Ben baby, all the time. Carefully, Roy picked the phone up as another message appeared.
BABY: You can call me later, when Roy’s asleep ;).
He swiped on the message, already feeling awful. He was probably being paranoid and exactly the boyfriend that he never wanted to be. He hated to think he was invading his partner’s privacy over a few silly messages from a friend.
He scrolled up and found dozens and dozens of messages, more messages that Roy thought he had ever sent in his entire life. Something just felt so off and reading some past conversations, as he read, things became more and more clear. It was evident that Roy wasn’t the only person that Jonathan had a intimate and romantic relationship with.
BABY: When you come over tonight, I’m going to ruin you. I just can’t wait to show you the surprise I have planned. It’ll be better than anything that old man Roy could ever do for you. X
Jonathan: I can’t wait! See you at six x
BABY: I can’t wait until you dump him and we can be together. It’ll be perfect.
Jonathan: I know, soon my love x
BABY: Tell Roy you have to work late and come over? We can watch Cinderella on the couch while I tell you all the reasons you’re amazing.
Jonathan: Sounds perfect. I’ll be right there xx
And the worst of all:
BABY: I love you so much.
JONATHAN: I love you too, my prince.
Roy’s heart shattered into a million tiny pieces as he processed what was happening. He could feel his eyes stinging as he unsuccessfully attempted to hold back the tears.
He found his discarded clothes, something that normally brings a little satisfied smirk to his face, but now made him feel sick and disgusted that he had shared such a tender and intimate relationship with someone who was a liar and a cheat. Roy stormed into the bathroom, not even bothering to knock.
“Hey, you’re dressed?” Jonathan said, surprised. He was dripping wet in the shower, the shower gel running down his toned body. A vision of that would usually send Roy wild with desire, now sent him into rage.
“Get the fuck out of the shower and out here right now.” Roy snapped, he was unable to contain his anger for much longer, he felt as if he was going to explode.
Reluctantly Jonathan turned off the shower and walked into the bedroom, with a towel wrapped around his waist.
“You disgusting animal. I gave you everything! I did everything for you. I know I’ve been touring a lot but I thought you were okay!” Roy’s could feel his voice cracking as he choked out the words “I loved you”
Jonathan looked shocked for a second. “You know?”
“How long?” Roy spat. Tears started to form in Roy’s eyes.
“About a year or so?” Jonathan replied, his nonchalant attitude about the whole situation just angered and hurt Roy further
Roy thought back. A year ago, he was at home. A year ago, he’d said ‘I love you’ for the first time. His heart broke even more.
“Why did you do it?” The tears that were previously just pain in Roy’s eyes were now streaming down his face.
“I love him. In ways……in ways I never loved you.” Jonathan said calmly.
“Get out. Get dressed, take your stuff and get out. I don’t care where you go, or what you do. I never want to hear from you again. We’re done.” Roy was yelling now, he was certain that the hotel could hear him but he didn’t care anymore.
Jonathan grabbed his clothes and started to pack his suitcase. He seemed totally unfazed, which broke Roy even more. He sat emotionless on the bed as his ex moved around him. He heard the dialling of Jonathan’s phone as he called the very same man who had caused all of this pain and anguish.
“Hey, honey? I’m coming home. Me and Roy are done. I’m getting the first flight back to you.” Jonathan sounded excited on the phone to his lover. “I know, finally right?” Whoever it was was clearly Jonathan’s dream man, he’s never talked to Roy in that soft, excited tone. It sounded like love.
Then the door slammed shut, and Roy sobbed. He had never felt pain like this ever before in his life. He’d had his fair share of break ups but he’d never been cheated on like this. No one had ever dared to cross him like this.
Jonathan marched downstairs.
“Oi, desk boy?” He said to Danny.
“Can I help you, sir?” Danny feigned politeness, but he really couldn’t be bothered to be nice to such an ignorant prick who had the heart of the man of Danny’s dreams.
“Yeah, check me out?” Jonathan demanded, there was not an ounce of compassion or politeness in his voice. It was clear that he thought Danny was nothing.
Danny tried hard to ignore the rudeness of his customer, after all it was hardly unusual working at such a luxurious resort to have difficult, entitled customers to deal with.
“Will you be returning during the duration of your stay?” Asked Danny.
“No.”
Danny was a little confused. This was definitely a couples break away, but it seemed that one half was not returning. He entered the information into his computer, the last thing he needed was to get fired for failing to follow fire safety regulations.
“That’s all done, I hope you enjoyed your stay.”
Jonathan wordlessly walked out, he looked so calm and confident, not like someone who had just left a romantic holiday after less than an hour.
Danny was concerned. The only time someone left after an hour in the hotel was if they were an escort and Jonathan was definitely not escort material.Sure, he was hot and arrogant…but Danny knew his escorts from any other hot and arrogant guy. Roy didn’t strike Danny as the sort of guy who needed to pay to get what he wanted either. That guy could pick anyone up, in any club or bar.
Danny desperately hoped Roy was okay, it seemed odd. He wondered if he should go up to check on him, perhaps they had broken up, or there had been some sort of emergency or problem. It just seemed strange that they were so loved up just an hour ago and yet now, Jonathan was storming out of the hotel.
Roy sat on his bed in floods of tears. He wanted to disappear. He had out his career on hold for this man. He had spent hundreds if not thousands of dollars on a romantic break. He had given everything to this man and now he was gone.
There was a knock on the door. For a moment, Roy thought that was Jonathan had returned to grovel an apology and beg for forgiveness. In some ways Roy longed for that to happen, he wanted his perfect man back. Now he would never have the man of his dreams, he had gone and Roy had lost him forever. In other ways, Roy did know that a huge part of that relationship had been a lie- he couldn’t be his true soulmate and he never wanted to look at him again.
“Go away.” Roy screamed at the door, his emotions uncontrollable.
Danny pushed the door open, just a creek. The way he saw Roy broke his heart. He felt uncontrollably close to this stranger.
Wordlessly, he shut the door and went to lie next to him on the bed, pulling him close. For once, Roy didn’t argue or push away. He needed the comfort, he needed someone to hold him, rock him and tell him that everything was going to be okay. He didn’t care who it was.
“Talk to me, whenever you’re ready.” Danny reassured, he didn’t want to push Roy to open up to him, he wanted to wait until he was ready. Unlike Jonathan ever did, Danny knew that there were moments in time that just weren’t about him.
“He cheated on me. He’s gone.”
Roy tucked his head into Danny’s shoulder as Danny tried everything to comfort the older. He didn’t want him to hurt. He couldn’t even think about his own feelings right now, he just wanted Roy to be okay.

An Essay by SPK
Tumblr media
QCP CO-FOUNDER STEPHEN PATRICK KELLY WAXES PHILOSOPHICAL ON FAN ART, ORIGINALITY
Hey, folks! Stephen here... welcome to my first piece for QCP Media! Hopefully I can keep ‘em coming because I’m not used to writing when I’m asked to write. Then our editor gave us the mission to write about something we liked. Well, I’ve decided what I like. And it’s you guys. “But Steve...” I hear you shouting, “…I’m not into you like that!” Calm down there, buddy. There’s a point I’m getting to. But in order to get there, I have to tell a quick story. I’ve been drawing for as long as I can remember. My Father is an artist. My Grandfather was an artist. My brother is an artist. Chances are, any children I may have in the future will also be artists in some form or fashion or have an eye for it.
The first thing I ever remember drawing is Superman. He is not just a character I have loved all my life, he is my favorite superhero. Full stop. From there, I discovered the Silver Surfer and started drawing him all the time. Then back to Superman. Then the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Then Street Fighter. I drew everything as a child. Not great, of course. But I kept working at it all my life. That’s the main ingredient to being an artist in general. You keep working at it all your life. There is no endpoint. I would keep drawing different things at different points in my life. But they were always things that weren’t mine, or at least things that could NEVER be mine. My Father reminded me of this all the time. He would encourage my brother and I to create our own characters every chance he got. I loved drawing Superman, but he would tell me that I should create someone like him, because Superman would never be mine. Over the years, I would create a few characters of my own. A lot of them aren’t worth mentioning. A few are. Some of which may yet still see the light of day. But I always went back to doing other established characters. When I was 26, I started looking for work in the actual comic field. This was during a time when I still believed that to be considered a legit professional, I obviously needed to find work with both Marvel and DC. The biggest open secret in the world is that with the advent of social media, that’s no longer true. I bummed around looking for work for a full 3 years and toiled around with a fan fiction before I finally embraced that fact. And on February 28, 2013, I created Shane Longshadow is Hungry. Shane has the one thing none of the other characters I had created before him ever had; staying power. He held my interest, and kept my energy. He got my attention. And 6 years in, I can promise you that nothing else in my life, outside of my family and music, has ever gotten this kind of dedication. His following is small, due to me being the only person that works on him really, but it is growing. I’m constantly asked when the next episode is. I am constantly hearing theories about future storylines from my readers. People actually speculate on what happens next with him. But the thing that Shane has that nothing else that came before him has is my PRIDE. Every time I look at him, I can’t help but think 'Man, I did it. I’m really out here doin’ this.’ If I had 6 extra arms and the coordination to go with them, I would be further along. I could go on, but you still want me to get to the point of this, so let’s get to that. One of the things that’s tiring about creating your own thing is putting eyes on it. It’s continuous and exhausting. But it’s worth it when you put in the work. As an artist who scrolls through social media, I see a lot of talent out there. A lot of potential. A lot of EVERYTHING. But not a whole lot of creativity. A lot of artists put more into fanart of a certain thing than their own actual thing. Just like I once did. And I won’t deny that it brings attention, but if you’re an artist, and you’re one of those who does fanart, and has a following, then you have the perfect opportunity to finally do something on your own because your audience is already there. You need to create something of your own. But even if you don’t have a large following, you still need to create something of your own, because that could still bring you a larger following than “POPULAR THING X POPULAR THING” or “GENDER BENT POPULAR THING” or “CHIBI POPULAR THING” and so on and so forth. A fellow artist I follow who is a lot like me, has their own thing going. They are freakishly talented. The style is clean. But I also saw that like me, the fanart on their page is virtually non-existent. And unlike some of the other talented artists I follow, their following is much smaller. I asked them for their reason for not doing a lot of fanart. This was their response: “[…] I can’t speak for anyone else but when it comes to fan art—or just art I produce in general, there are a few factors that come to mind… …time and goals. Fan art is awesome, and I’d never put anyone down for doing it—I just think for what I’m doing I’d rather focus my time on my own projects, since those are most important to me.” Time and goals. TIME. AND. GOALS. I see a lot of artists produce killer concepts and hype it up with character models and logos and everything else, except the work that has to be done afterwards because of time and goals. They go right back to fanart. And like the artist I mentioned above said (and I echo the sentiment), fan art is awesome. I believe those same artists should be putting time into their own stuff with the goal of being known/remembered for that one day.
Tumblr media
One of the things that Shane has consistently done for me is BE THERE. Since his creation, I moved out of my house. I moved back into my house. I’ve gone through 2-3 cars. I’ve had 2-3 ex girlfriends. I’ve been flat broke. I’ve been just plain broke. I’ve had 3 cats pass away. I’ve lost close friends to illnesses and what-have-you. And so on and so forth. But Shane been there. And I’ve been there for him. Your creation is your road dog. As my 'child’, Shane is my time and goals. As I’ve stated, I’ve seen a lot of talent… …but there’s always room for more creativity. You can add so much to the world by spending your time on something that’s your own. Something that advances your goals; not something that will never be yours. It’s only because I like you guys that I encourage you to do so.

My Favorite Album #214 - Meet Me In The Bathroom author Lizzy Goodman on Yeah Yeah Yeahs 'Fever to Tell'(2003), why Karen O is a true rock star, the magic of 'Maps' and more
Tumblr media
Rock journalist and author of the definitive oral history of the New York rock revival 'Meet Me in the Bathroom', Lizzy Goodman, joins me to talk about one of the seminal albums of that era - the Yeah Yeah Yeahs' debut LP 'Fever to Tell'.
We talk about why Karen O is the truest rock star of her era, what makes 'Maps' such a special song and how it influenced mainstream pop, the contrast between the band's offstage awkwardness and their high-octane music, why being a woman can't be politically neutral in rock and the world in general, why it's silly to pretend clothes don't matter and why Lorde made Lizzy excited about the next wave of New York music.
Plus we delve into the writing process of 'Meet Me in the Bathroom', 2017's best music book, and why she will never undertake a similar project again.

Queer Fiction Rec List #1: Contemporary Novels
WLW:
Everything Leads to You by Nina LaCour: A love letter to the craft and romance of film and fate in front of—and behind—the camera from the award-winning author of Hold Still. A wunderkind young set designer, Emi has already started to find her way in the competitive Hollywood film world. Emi is a film buff and a true romantic, but her real-life relationships are a mess. She has desperately gone back to the same girl too many times to mention. But then a mysterious letter from a silver screen legend leads Emi to Ava. Ava is unlike anyone Emi has ever met. She has a tumultuous, not-so-glamorous past, and lives an unconventional life. She’s enigmatic…. She’s beautiful. And she is about to expand Emi’s understanding of family, acceptance, and true romance. [Notes: Hold Still seems interesting, although I don’t think it has any queer narrative or characters. It also deals heavily with suicide, so a warning in that respect].
This Is Where It Ends by Marieke Nijkamp: Everyone has a reason to fear the boy with the gun.10:00 a.m.The principal of Opportunity high school finishes her speech, welcoming the entire student body to a new semester and encouraging them to excel and achieve.10:02 a.m.The students get up to leave the auditorium for their next class.10:03 The auditorium doors won't open.10:05. Someone starts shooting.Told from four perspectives over the span of 54 harrowing minutes, terror reigns as one student's calculated revenge turns into the ultimate game of survival. [Notes: Obvious violence here. Don’t worry, they survive].
Love Letters to the Dead by Ava Dellaira: It begins as an assignment for English class: Write a letter to a dead person. Laurel chooses Kurt Cobain because her sister, May, loved him. And he died young, just like May did. Soon, Laurel has a notebook full of letters to people like Janis Joplin, Amy Winehouse, Amelia Earhart, Heath Ledger, and more -- though she never gives a single one of them to her teacher. She writes about starting high school, navigating new friendships, falling in love for the first time, learning to live with her splintering family. And, finally, about the abuse she suffered while May was supposed to be looking out for her. Only then, once Laurel has written down the truth about what happened to herself, can she truly begin to accept what happened to May. And only when Laurel has begun to see her sister as the person she was -- lovely and amazing and deeply flawed -- can she begin to discover her own path. [Notes: The LGBT romance is a side romance, although it is given as much attention as the main one].
Lies We Tell Ourselves by Robin Talley: In 1959 Virginia, the lives of two girls on opposite sides of the battle for civil rights will be changed forever. Sarah Dunbar is one of the first black students to attend the previously all-white Jefferson High School. An honors student at her old school, she is put into remedial classes, spit on and tormented daily. Linda Hairston is the daughter of one of the town's most vocal opponents of school integration. She has been taught all her life that the races should be kept separate but equal. Forced to work together on a school project, Sarah and Linda must confront harsh truths about race, power and how they really feel about one another. Boldly realistic and emotionally compelling, Lies We Tell Ourselves is a brave and stunning novel about finding truth amid the lies, and finding your voice even when others are determined to silence it.
About A Girl by Sarah McCarry:  Eighteen-year-old Tally is absolutely sure of everything: her genius, the love of her adoptive family, the loyalty of her best friend, Shane, and her future career as a Nobel prize-winning astronomer. There’s no room in her tidy world for heartbreak or uncertainty—or the charismatic, troubled mother who abandoned her soon after she was born. But when a sudden discovery upends her fiercely ordered world, Tally sets out on an unexpected quest to seek out the reclusive musician who may hold the key to her past—and instead finds Maddy, an enigmatic and beautiful girl who will unlock the door to her future. The deeper she falls in love with Maddy, the more Tally begins to realize that the universe is bigger—and more complicated—than she ever imagined. Can Tally face the truth about her family—and find her way home in time to save herself from its consequences? [Notes: This is the third book in a “loose series”—apparently they’re pretty much stand alone.]
Not Otherwise Specified by Hannah Moskowitz: Etta is tired of dealing with all of the labels and categories that seem so important to everyone else in her small Nebraska hometown.Everywhere she turns, someone feels she’s too fringe for the fringe. Not gay enough for the Dykes, her ex-clique, thanks to a recent relationship with a boy; not tiny and white enough for ballet, her first passion; and not sick enough to look anorexic (partially thanks to recovery). Etta doesn’t fit anywhere— until she meets Bianca, the straight, white, Christian, and seriously sick girl in Etta’s therapy group. Both girls are auditioning for Brentwood, a prestigious New York theater academy that is so not Nebraska. Bianca seems like Etta’s salvation, but how can Etta be saved by a girl who needs saving herself?
Afterworlds by Scott Westerfeld: Darcy Patel is afraid to believe all the hype. But it's really happening - her teen novel is getting published. Instead of heading to college, she's living in New York City, where she's welcomed into the dazzling world of YA publishing. That means book tours, parties with her favorite authors, and finding a place to live that won't leave her penniless. It means sleepless nights rewriting her first draft and struggling to find the perfect ending... all while dealing with the intoxicating, terrifying experience of falling in love - with another writer.Told in alternating chapters is Darcy's novel, the thrilling story of Lizzie, who wills her way into the afterworld to survive a deadly terrorist attack. With survival comes the responsibility to guide the restless spirits that walk our world, including one ghost with whom she shares a surprising personal connection. But Lizzie's not alone in her new calling - she has counsel from a fellow spirit guide, a very desirable one, who is torn between wanting Lizzie and warning her that... BELIEVING IS DANGEROUS.
Tell Me Again How a Crush Should Feel by Sara Farizan: High-school junior Leila has made it most of the way through Armstead Academy without having a crush on anyone, which is something of a relief. Her Persian heritage already makes her different from her classmates; if word got out that she liked girls, life would be twice as hard. But when a sophisticated, beautiful new girl, Saskia, shows up, Leila starts to take risks she never thought she would, especially when it looks as if the attraction between them is mutual. Struggling to sort out her growing feelings and Saskia's confusing signals, Leila confides in her old friend, Lisa, and grows closer to her fellow drama tech-crew members, especially Tomas, whose comments about his own sexuality are frank, funny, wise, and sometimes painful. Gradually, Leila begins to see that almost all her classmates are more complicated than they first appear to be, and many are keeping fascinating secrets of their own.
Ask the Passengers by A.S. King: Astrid Jones desperately wants to confide in someone, but her mother's pushiness and her father's lack of interest tell her they're the last people she can trust. Instead, Astrid spends hours lying on the backyard picnic table watching airplanes fly overhead. She doesn't know the passengers inside, but they're the only people who won't judge her when she asks them her most personal questions--like what it means that she's falling in love with a girl. As her secret relationship becomes more intense and her friends demand answers, Astrid has nowhere left to turn. She can't share the truth with anyone except the people at thirty thousand feet, and they don't even know she's there. But little does Astrid know just how much even the tiniest connection will affect these strangers' lives--and her own--for the better. In this truly original portrayal of a girl struggling to break free of society's definitions, Printz Honor author A.S. King asks readers to question everything--and offers hope to those who will never stop seeking real love.
Between You and Me by Marisa Calin: Phyre knows there is something life-changing about her new drama teacher, Mia, from the moment they meet. As Phyre rehearses for the school play, she comes to realize that the unrequited feelings she has for Mia go deeper than she’s ever experienced. Especially with a teacher. Or a woman. All the while, Phyre’s best friend—addressed throughout the story in the second person, as "you"—stands by, ready to help Phyre make sense of her feelings. But just as Mia doesn’t understand what Phyre feels, Phyre can’t fathom the depth of her best friend’s feelings . . . until it’s almost too late for a happy ending. Characters come to life through the innovative screenplay format of this dazzling debut, and unanswered questions—is "you" male or female?—will have readers talking. [Notes: Alright, so. This one sounds like it could get sketchy, but we’ll try it out anyway].
MLM:
Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Sáenz: Aristotle is an angry teen with a brother in prison. Dante is a know-it-all who has an unusual way of looking at the world. When the two meet at the swimming pool, they seem to have nothing in common. But as the loners start spending time together, they discover that they share a special friendship—the kind that changes lives and lasts a lifetime. And it is through this friendship that Ari and Dante will learn the most important truths about themselves and the kind of people they want to be.
Bi-Normal by M. G. Higgens: Brett Miller is one of the kings of Elkhead High. Everyone knows the kings rule the school. Football stars. Pretty girls. The in-crowd. Brett and his buddies are the tormentors; nobody messes with them. Then Brett meets Zach …”It’s a crush. I’m crushing on a friggin’ guy. That’s sick. And I don’t know what to do about it. … I want these feelings to go away. At the same time, I don’t want them to go away.” And his life is turned inside out. Everything he knows about himself is wrong. And he doesn’t have anywhere to turn for answers. He’s heard the word “bi” before; it has nothing to do with him. But in his gut he knows. And he doesn’t have a clue what to do about it.
Trans:
Gracefully Grayson by Ami Polonsky:  Alone at home, twelve-year-old Grayson Sender glows, immersed in beautiful thoughts and dreams. But at school, Grayson grasps at shadows, determined to fly under the radar. Because Grayson has been holding onto a secret for what seems like forever: “he” is a girl on the inside, stuck in the wrong gender’s body.The weight of this secret is crushing, but leaving it behind would mean facing ridicule, scorn, and rejection. Despite these dangers, Grayson’s true self itches to break free. Strengthened by an unexpected friendship and a caring teacher who gives her a chance to step into the spotlight, Grayson might finally have the tools to let her inner light shine. [Notes: This is actually middle grade lit, one of the first of its kind].
I Am J by Cris Beam: J always felt different. He was certain that eventually everyone would understand who he really was; a boy mistakenly born as a girl. Yet as he grew up, his body began to betray him; eventually J stopped praying to wake up a "real boy" and started covering up his body, keeping himself invisible - from his family, from his friends...from the world. But after being deserted by the best friend he thought would always be by his side, J decides that he's done hiding - it's time to be who he really is. And this time he is determined not to give up, no matter the cost.
Almost Perfect by Brian Katcher: Everyone has that one line they swear they’ll never cross, the one thing they say they’ll never do. We draw the line. Maybe we even believe it. Sage Hendricks was my line. Logan Witherspoon befriends Sage Hendricks at a time when he no longer trusts or believes in people. As time goes on, he finds himself drawn to Sage, pulled in by her deep, but sexy feminine voice and her constant smile. Eventually Logan’s feelings for Sage grow so strong that he can’t resist kissing her. Moments later, he wishes he never had. Sage finally discloses her big secret: she was born a boy. Enraged, frightened, and feeling betrayed, Logan lashes out at Sage. Once his anger has cooled, however, his regrets lead him to attempt to rekindle their friendship. But it’s hard to replace something that’s been broken—and it’s even harder to find your way back to friendship when you began with love. [Notes: This one.... does not look like it will be the best, so read at your own risk. I could be wrong, though].
Being Emily by Rachel Gold:  They say that whoever you are it’s okay, you were born that way. Those words don’t comfort Emily, because she was born Christopher and her insides know that her outsides are all wrong. They say that it gets better, be who are you and it’ll be fine. For Emily, telling her parents who she really is means a therapist who insists Christopher is normal and Emily is sick. Telling her girlfriend means lectures about how God doesn’t make that kind of mistake. Emily desperately wants high school in her small Minnesota town to get better. She wants to be the woman she knows is inside, but it’s not until a substitute therapist and a girl named Natalie come into her life that she believes she has a chance of actually Being Emily.
Happy Families by Tanita S. Davis: Teenage twins Ysabel and Justin Nicholas are lucky. Ysabel's jewelry designs have already caught the eyes of the art world and Justin's intelligence and drive are sure to gain him entrance into the most prestigious of colleges. They even like their parents. But their father has a secret—one that threatens to destroy the twins' happy family and life as they know it. Over the course of spring break, Ysabel and Justin will be forced to come to terms with their dad's new life, but can they overcome their fears to piece together their happy family again?
Brooklyn, Burning by Steve Brezenoff: Gorgeous, sad, and hopeful Brooklyn, Burning is a love letter to Brooklyn, a love letter to music booming from the basement, and most of all, a love letter to every kind of love (but especially the punk rock kind). [Notes: This is really vague, but from what I understand, its about a trans teenager not finding love at home, so they “search for it on the streets”.]
Luna by Julie Anne Peters: Regan’s brother Liam can’t stand the person he is during the day. Like the moon from whom Liam has chosen his female namesake, his true self, Luna, only reveals herself at night. In the secrecy of his basement bedroom Liam transforms himself into the beautiful girl he longs to be, with help from his sister’s clothes and makeup. Now, everything is about to change-Luna is preparing to emerge from her cocoon. But are Liam’s family and friends ready to welcome Luna into their lives?Compelling and provocative, this is an unforgettable novel about a transgender teen’s struggle for self-identity and acceptance.
Asexual:
How to Say Goodbye in Robot by Natalie Standiford:  From bestselling author Natalie Standiford, an amazing, touching story of two friends navigating the dark waters of their senior year. New to town, Beatrice is expecting her new best friend to be one of the girls she meets on the first day. But instead, the alphabet conspires to seat her next to Jonah, aka Ghost Boy, a quiet loner who hasn't made a new friend since third grade. Something about him, though, gets to Bea, and soon they form an unexpected friendship. It's not romance, exactly - but it's definitely love. Still, Bea can't quite dispel Jonah's gloom and doom - and as she finds out his family history, she understands why. Can Bea help Jonah? Or is he destined to vanish?
Bonus Round:
Beauty Queens by Libba Bray: When a plane crash strands thirteen teen beauty contestants on a mysterious island, they struggle to survive, to get along with one another, to combat the island's other diabolical occupants, and to learn their dance numbers in case they are rescued in time for the competition. [Notes: Obviously, this one seems a bit.... out there. But I know a lot of people seem to like it, and it has just about the whole spectrum of representation. I say have at it].
If You Could Be Mine by Sara Farizan: Seventeen-year-old Sahar has been in love with her best friend, Nasrin, since they were six. They’ve shared stolen kisses and romantic promises. But Iran is a dangerous place for two girls in love—Sahar and Nasrin could be beaten, imprisoned, even executed if their relationship came to light. So they carry on in secret—until Nasrin’s parents announce that they’ve arranged for her marriage. Nasrin tries to persuade Sahar that they can go on as they have been, only now with new comforts provided by the decent, well-to-do doctor Nasrin will marry. But Sahar dreams of loving Nasrin exclusively—and openly. Then Sahar discovers what seems like the perfect solution. In Iran, homosexuality may be a crime, but to be a man trapped in a woman’s body is seen as nature’s mistake, and sex reassignment is legal and accessible. As a man, Sahar could be the one to marry Nasrin. Sahar will never be able to love the one she wants, in the body she wants to be loved in, without risking her life. Is saving her love worth sacrificing her true self? [Notes: WLW +trans (obviously).I’ve heard the ending isn’t great, but there’s no death.]
Boyfriends With Girlfriends by Alex Sanchez: Lance has always known he was gay, but he’s never had a real boyfriend. Sergio is bisexual, but his only real relationship was with a girl. When the two of them meet, they have an instant connection–but will it be enough to overcome their differences?Allie’s been in a relationship with a guy for the last two years–but when she meets Kimiko, she can’t get her out of her mind. Does this mean she’s gay? Does it mean she’s bi? Kimiko, falling hard for Allie, and finding it impossible to believe that a gorgeous girl like Allie would be into her, is willing to stick around and help Allie figure it out. [Notes: WLW and MLM.]
Geography Club by Brent Hartinger: Russel Middlebrook is convinced he’s the only gay kid at Goodkind High School.Then his online gay chat buddy turns out to be none other than Kevin, the popular but closeted star of the school’s baseball team. Soon Russel meets other gay students, too. There’s his best friend Min, who reveals that she is bisexual, and her soccer-playing girlfriend Terese. Then there’s Terese’s politically active friend, Ike.But how can kids this diverse get together without drawing attention to themselves?”We just choose a club that’s so boring, nobody in their right mind would ever in a million years join it. We could call it Geography Club!”Brent Hartinger’s debut novel is a fast-paced, funny, and trenchant portrait of contemporary teenagers who may not learn any actual geography in their latest club, but who learn plenty about the treacherous social terrain of high school and the even more dangerous landscape of the human heart. [Notes: MLM and WLW].

Conduct Unbecoming by L.A. Witt
Tumblr media
Series: Conduct Unbecoming, #1 Read time: 1 Day Rating: 4.5/5
The quote: We shouldn’t do this. We have to do this. We can’t do this. We need to do this. — Shane Connelly
Conduct Unbecoming has been sitting on my tbr for far too long.  And I'm so happy I got around to reading it. It is a fun, sexy ride with just the right amount of angst drama. Eric and Shane are charming and endearing characters to me, they are flawed and at least semi-realistic men who love deeply and are willing to risk everything for each other. The ending was just perfect. I suspected at least one aspect of it was coming from quite early on, something I wish we'd got to see.
I want to discuss the characters first. This is a character-driven novel. Yeah, the main men Shane and Eric have a sizzling chemistry and the moments between straight off the bat, their one night stand, are stunning. But the focus is their character growth, the bond between them and their worlds. Can I just say start by saying Thank all things good in the world for LA Witt writing a mm protagonist who is a bisexual, twice divorced, father of twins. Shane Connelly fun, flirty, smart and unexpected. Eric Randall is a military cop and new to Okinawa. He's good at his job but away from his teenage daughter, again, he's lonely.  His and Shane's relationship is a ride. But it's the supporting cast that made me sit up and pay attention to a  degree. Both Eric and Shane have friends the discuss their high stakes relationship with. Eric has Sara and Marie, Shane has Mays. Mays was a bit of an information outlet for the reader, he gives us a look into the military's perspective but he's straight-talking and loyal to Shane. The women aren't poorly used, they aren't the best but aren't the worst I've read in mm. Sara and Marie are likeable. Sara is Eric's ex-wife their relationship is friendly and not just for the sake of Marie. Marie is 17 she's a brilliant mix of Sara and Eric. When she meets Shane they get along like a house on fire, they are possibly some of the best scenes in the book. Kate is a quite a good example of one type of military wife, the one who perhaps thought she know what she was signing up for and didn't. Her redemptive arc as brief as it is is well written and appealing.
Shane and Eric's is a relationship that was built on the chemistry and fantastic sex of a one night stand. Developed through mutual interests photography, snorkelling and missing their kids. As a premise I really like it. I like the high stakes risk too, it's ever-present but not always in your face. There was, of course, some degree of predictability to the plot but is that always a problem? The reader knows that this is contemporary military mm there will be drama but who will cause it, when and where. Or what will the consequences be?  The writing changed well and suited the moment. When Shane and Eric first hook up the writing is desperate. During the drama, there is pain and sadness. While they are with Marie the tone is light and fun.
There is a wonderful amount of crossover between Conduct Unbecoming and book 2 in this series, General Misconduct. Aiden is discussed fairly early on, and we see something close to the start of General Misconduct at about the 50% mark. We may even see though not be introduced to Conner, it's hard to tell. If it was him Connor just got lucky and he'll never know it.
This is some of those books that haven't necessarily aged the best, but for those that enjoy the genre, you will really enjoy it. I'm rating it 4.5 up to 5 because I really did enjoy this, much more than I expected to. Having said only reviews ago that avoid second books I'm looking forward to General Misconduct.  Aiden looks like he could be adorable, less scared then Eric and Shane but that doesn't make the story any less high stakes.
2nd quote: And my head? Jesus fucking Christ. I was certain a pair of battleships had spent the better part of the night playing bumper boats with my skull in the middle. Good morning, awamori. — Shane Connelly
There are some added notes in my Goodreads review about military rank and charges and the Himeyuri Gakutotai.

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish that now has a new home at That Artsy Reader Girl.
It’s finally time to talk about all the books I loved and adored in 2019 and I’m already very very excited. These may not all be the ones I rated 5 stars and I may have even found some flaws in them, but they are all the books which I felt a deep connection to, have already reread (atleast some of them) and I would love to share them all with you. Because I have a huge list, I’m gonna divide based on my favorites for each month.
January
All of you already know how much love I have for Red, White and Royal Blue because I have been shouting about it for the past one year now, but I still can’t stop. My first favorite of 2019, it remained my top throughout the year because it’s that special.
I couldn’t believe I had waited so long to read The Song of Achilles because it’s such a well written and emotionally affecting read that I couldn’t forget it for a while. And as expected, it involved a lot of tears.
February
Watch Us Rise is a powerful YA contemporary with lots of commentary on white beauty standards, fatshaming, feminism and intersectionality. It had it’s issues especially regarding white feminism, but I really connected with all the other themes.
The Right Swipe is a super sexy romance featuring a powerful black woman CEO and a soft cinnamon roll ex-football player hero, while also talking about important issues like workplace sexual harassment and the longterm affects of CTE on football players. I loved Rhiannon so much as a character and can’t wait to see her again in the rest of the series.
Heated Rivalry is probably my favorite sports romance of the year and I can’t tell you enough how much I love Ilya and Shane as a couple. The development of their relationship over almost a decade is just brilliantly written and it is at times both sweet and sexy. The author said she would be writing a sequel for them soon and that sounds amazing.

The Huntress is a thrilling fictionalized story of the strength and resilience of women who fought in WWII and survived, and also those who fought years later to bring justice to the Holocaust victims, even when the world was ready to forget them all.
The worst part about Descendant of the Crane is the fact that we don’t know if it will ever get a sequel. This book has so many twists and turns and betrayals that I was on the edge of my seat for most of the time. What a debut.
I wasn’t even gonna read The Priory of the Orange Tree but once I started, I just couldn’t stop. It has an expansive world and mythology, an excellent cast of characters and a sapphic romance for the ages.
And one of my most anticipated releases of 2019, We Set the Dark on Fire is the most fiery and passionate romance of the year set in the backdrop of a revolution, and after that mind blowing cliffhanger ending, the sequel can’t come soon enough.

Good Talk is a book that left me feeling a lot of things and with many questions on my mind, because I just found it so relatable and relevant to my current life. Too real and heartfelt, maybe even painful at times, but nonetheless a very important read.
I would have never read Aru Shah and the End of Time if not for some cajoling by my dear friend Nandini, but thank god she did. Because, this book is just so much fun and the elements from the Mahabharata are perfectly captured.

Shadow of the Fox is the beginning of one of my favorite current YA fantasy series and it was such a delight to read. A sweet and lovely protagonist like Yumeko, a funny and unlikely ensemble cast and a quest full of adventures and monsters – what more could I have asked for.
The Candle and the Flame is what you would call a quiet fantasy, it doesnt have a lot of high stakes but reading it just gives an amazing feeling. And the setting of the fictional City of Noor is probably my favorite of the year. Such a charming and unforgettable debut.
A smiling fat brown girl on a cover – I was in love with There’s Something about Sweetie since the first time I saw it, and it will always have a special place in my heart.
June
I adore The Bone Witch trilogy but the finale The Shadow Glass is my favorite – this series has the best characters, beautiful relationships and an ending that blew my mind. A perfect trilogy…!!!
And now the perfect standalone of the year for me, Sorcery of Thorns. While I love the adorable romance and the ever mysterious demon Silas, the heart of this story is a love of books and I resonated with it very deeply. The climax fight is just perfection.
One Giant Leap is not great by any means, but it’s the sweetest romance I read last year and I just couldn’t get it out of my mind. And the setting of space travel and a delightful set of nerdy characters make for a charming story that will make you smile.
Hungry Hearts is an anthology that has all my heart – a beautiful amalgamation of food and culture and the importance of both in our lives, it’s a heartwarming read and definitely made me very hungry.
July
My top most anticipated release of 2019, A House of Rage and Sorrow was as explosive as I expected it to be and the roller coaster ride just amazed me. I think I raced through it in a couple of hours because I couldn’t put it down for even a second.
Jade City is a book that took it’s time but once it got a hold on me, it wouldn’t let go. I was tense through most of it and the twists and turns just killed me.
I don’t know what I was expecting from Govinda, but I didn’t expect it to just completely mesmerize me. What an imaginative retelling of my favorite epic. And hatsoff to the author for attempting this for her debut.
August
The Merciful Crow is definitely one of my favorite debuts of 2019, with it’s brilliant cast, fascinating world and magic system, an endearing romance and great commentary on class and oppression. I’m very eagerly waiting for The Faithless Hawk.
Three Parts Dead is a book that is pretty out of my comfort zone, but I just wanted to give it a try and it completely blew me away with the unique world building and magic system. I’m quite excited to continue with the rest of the series.

I feel like Steel Crow Saga is one of the most underrated fantasy novels of last year and it deserves so much more hype. It has an excellent ensemble of diverse characters, I loved how queernormative it was, the commentary on war and colonization is on point, and it wears it’s Asian inspiration on it’s sleeve. Love it so much.
Bringing Down the Duke was a delight to read and as someone who doesn’t know much about the suffragette movement in the UK, I loved the setting and getting to know more about the struggles the women faced who were fighting for their rights. And the romance is a lot of fun.
I never knew the whole story of the Harvey Weinstein scandal, so reading She Said which is about the investigation, the scope of it and the sheer number of courageous women who came forward to tell their stories, made me feel all kinds of things. This can be a very rage inducing read but also a very important one at the same time.
Probably one of my top favorite YA fantasies of the year, There Will Come a Darkness has excellent worldbuilding, another ensemble cast which I fell in love with and some amazing action sequences. I can’t wait to read the sequel.
October
Burn It Down is an anthology that really affected me, with it’s number of essays on women talking about their relationship with anger and how it has affected them during their life. I think this is a very important read and I know I will be going for it again and again.
Blowout is a fascinating read (and listen) about the Oil and Gas industry and it’s impact on global geopolitics, and I had so much fun listening to it narrated by Rachel herself. It’s very informational, can feel pretty bleak at times but still ends with a dash of hope.
While Catch and Kill is also mostly about the Harvey Weinstein investigation, it’s also a story about the intimidation tactics used by powerful people for covering up their crimes, and the lengths to which sexual harassment is covered up across major corporations. Hatsoff to Ronan for his work but also for his excellent writing style, because this one surely reads like a spy thriller.
November
I never thought a history book would make this list, but How to Hide an Empire is a brilliantly written book about the unknown (or deliberately misrepresented) history of the American empire which exists till today. I learnt a lot of things here and I think it should be required reading for everyone who want to know more about their country.
This is How You Lose the Time War literally has nothing going for me because it is completely out of my comfort zone, but I got lost inside the poetic beauty of this love story and had to try very hard not to cry in public. Such an imaginative book.
The Poppy War was a great debut and I really enjoyed it, but The Dragon Republic took the whole story to another level and I’m just glad that I decided to read this series. It’s absolutely brilliant and I can’t recommend it enough.
I saw Killers of the Flower Moon on a must read books of the decade list, and decided maybe I should give it a try. And what a riveting read this was. The writing itself is exceptional, but it’s the content that is almost disbelieving to read about, and I wish everyone in the country would get to know more about this bloody history of Oklahoma.
December
I was definitely motivated to read Blood of an Exile because of the presence of dragons, but this book turned out to be so much more. Almost two very different worlds in one, a highly unlikely group of characters coming together to form beautiful friendships and some excellent twists and turns – this became an instant favorite and I can’t wait to read Sorcery of a Queen.
A very unexpected read which wasn’t even on my radar, The Paper Menagerie and Other Stories totally blew my mind with the author’s storytelling as well the very important themes he was able to talk about within just a few words.
