things that happened on degrassi but i make them about riverdale
they had cheryl say cuckoo bananas one time, zig novak was heraldo, and also vanessa morgan was mike dallas's baby mama so like clearly there's existing connections here. and just like riverdale and degrassi writers-- i love putting characters into situations. so. without further ado..... things that happen on degrassi (tng & next class) that should've happened on riverdale.
betty pelts dodgeballs at jughead during gym class after he is vague about going on a date or not
dolly zoom on archie's face as fred says "your mom is gay"
betty and gay kevin have a fight while filming a fake commercial for unisex cologne for class
Tumblr media
^ this with gay kevin
reggie does elaborate business deals with locker trading so that veronica can have the best one
archie sending veronica flowers with a card that says ”you rock! xoxo archie”
jughead choking and needing the heimlich but refusing to let gay kevin give him the heimlich because it would mean gay kevin has to touch him.
betty getting into an actual violent physical fight with blood with a random girl at school
youtube
^ okay go watch this video right now you only need to watch like the first minute exactly. the rest is completely optional. i have several scenarios in mind here:
- idea one is gay kevin having issues with fangs for the billionth time and so when in doubt kiss archie? - idea two is something jarchie related either betty or veronica is the dylan here . - IDEA THREE IS DYLAN=JUGHEAD GAY MARCO=ARCHIE. SO WHEN IN DOUBT KISS REGGIE?! - but also. the very first episode of riverdale is veronica so when in doubt you kiss betty. okay like realistically the scene is not like that but i think they shouldve let betty say "so when in doubt you kiss betty." for me personally. she would not fucking say that but i want her to
veronica and jughead go to the college admissions fair while extremely high.
RAS plays a similar role to kevin smith and gives advice to cheryl about being gay
kangs toxic poker game. what more can i say
veronica: as you and jughead’s closest friends- jughead: oh actually i don’t really like you. veronica: SHH!
natasha bedingfield performs at prom. archie gets to dance his heart out and cry a little to unwritten. and pocket full of sunshine woah oh
toni gets so much into vampire books that she makes out with cheryl and thinks about vampires too hard and bites her on the neck (this would be a great reference to vanessa morgan's time on another canadian teen show my babysitter's a vampire and also i think we should let toni be a little crazy for fun)
lgbt mixer at la bonne nuit. nothing crazy happens on the degrassi episode but i just wish it had happened on riverdale. like maybe veronica and kevin sing same love or born this way. (again that did not happen on degrassi just using the fact they did an lgbt mixer at the teen speakeasy as a jumping off point.)
when jughead gets hired by tabitha at pops, he immediately burns down the restaurant. they then go to a casino in niagra falls and get vegas-style married
cheryl adopts a pig (that later destroys her house) instead of coping with being alone
reggie attends a meeting about homophobia brought on by locker room bullying and someone explains the definition of internalized homophobia and he says out loud "im a homophobe" and starts crying
jughead poisons bret with stuff that makes you throw up. this involves cups being switched and a reference to roman history (but in the riverdale version betty supports and enables it)
jughead writes a story about a girl getting stalked who has a protective boyfriend trying to stop it but he makes the ending be that the boyfriend realizes he can never protect her from the stalker so he kills her. and betty is like dude um what that is insane. and hes genuinely like what it's just a story. later jughead ends up still not being able to figure out an ending and burns the script on stage while having a breakdown
they have to build rube goldberg machines for class. it doesnt matter who i just want this to be something
fp and alice wedding where bughead break up and get back together like five times about it
core four smokes weed during 2x14 The Hills Have Eyes (degrassi had an episode where teens were unsupervised in a cabin. Just Like.)
gay kevin does a gay musical production of romeo and juliet.
some film guy that jughead adores comes and does a guest lecture and so in order to impress the guy he smokes weed with chic and makes a terrible insane short film to show said film guy
timeskip jughead does mdma at an artsy party where people are very high and painting with their bodies on the walls and floors. in order to avoid his problems.
gay kevin wears a beret at least once
Tumblr media
^ bughead texts
veronica sings triangle tra la le la by patsy cline while in the midst of one of her 'reggie or archie' moments
betty gets really into axe throwing with lesbians (the pretty poisons) in the woods
unfortunately i cannot find a video uploaded of gay tristan performing it but. gay kevin voice riverdale you make drama look! so! good!
veronica trying to tank her father's mayoral campaign by being gay with betty and outing hiram as a homophobe
reggie: for the last time i'm not gay. or homophobic. just missing my best bro....
jughead won't shut up in class so cheryl cuts off some of her hair and then asks jughead to hold the scissors for a sec. and then she raises her hand and tells the teacher jughead cut her hair
beronica has a heartfelt moment about admitting feelings for each other and in the middle of it reggie walks up to them with saddest look on his face and says "am i hotter than archie? be honest. actually don't." and then walks away
veronica comes out to avoid political backlash and the word gets around to hermione who tries to comfort her by saying "no one's gonna believe you're gay. it happens to all powerful women. even hillary"
cheryl and veronica have a fake trial in class over twitter beef
cheryl auditions for a boy part in a play directed by gay kevin. gay kevin initially says no, but cheryl points out that it should be about relating to the pain of the character, not gender. gay kevin agrees and says that he is going to play the part himself because no one understands what he's going through better than him, right?
i'm constructing a reality where fangs is dating gay kevin when he is in the infamous bus crash but instead of dying he goes into a coma. and gay kevin is loyally by his bedside until he snaps like three months in and hooks up with moose. the night he does that, fangs wakes up from said coma.
veronica, speaking to reggie: even though we're a toxic couple, i really miss you and i want our break to be over.
betty has a terrible reaction to weed and someone finds her sadly eating slices of bread from a bag saying “i thought the bread would make me less high but it isnt working”
and finally, and crucially, they should've done a shark in the water style promo for at least one of the seasons. thanks for tuning in.

Is raising EI and CPP contributions bad for Canadians? Confusing and not sure where to find an unbiased take online
This means that more of the money you earn goes to your EI and CPP.
This means short term, you'll get less money from your paycheck, but long term you'll have more money to support you in your retirement or if/when you become unemployed.
Its a fair trade off, imo, and increases to EI and CPP, are in the fractions of %, so you're not going to be losing a lot.

Can I Start a Soap Packaging Business from Home in Canada?
Tumblr media
Starting a soap packaging business from home in Canada is not only feasible but also a potentially lucrative venture. With the rise in the popularity of artisanal and small-batch soaps, the demand for unique, high-quality packaging is growing. If you're considering diving into this industry, here's a comprehensive guide to help you navigate the process.
1. Understanding the Market
Before launching your soap packaging business, it's crucial to research the market. Identify the types of soap products you want to cater to—whether it's handmade artisanal soaps, organic soaps, or luxury bath products. Understand the packaging needs of these different types of soaps and the preferences of your target customers. This will help you tailor your offerings and stand out in a competitive market.
2. Legal and Regulatory Requirements
Starting a home-based business in Canada requires adherence to several legal and regulatory standards. Here are some key steps:
Business Registration: Register your business name with your provincial or territorial government. You may also need to register for a GST/HST number if your revenue exceeds the threshold for small suppliers.
Home-Based Business Regulations: Check local zoning laws and homeowners' association rules to ensure you can legally operate a business from your home.
Health and Safety Compliance: Ensure that your packaging materials comply with Canadian regulations for health and safety. For instance, if you plan to use materials that come into direct contact with soap, ensure they are safe and non-toxic.
3. Setting Up Your Home Workspace
Creating an efficient workspace is crucial for a successful packaging business. Designate a specific area in your home for packaging activities. This space should be clean, organized, and suitable for the tasks you'll perform, such as cutting, folding, and assembling packaging materials.
Invest in essential tools and equipment like cutting machines, label printers, and sealing devices. Ensure your workspace adheres to health and safety standards to prevent contamination and ensure product quality.
4. Sourcing Packaging Materials
The quality of your packaging materials is critical. Source high-quality, eco-friendly materials to appeal to environmentally-conscious customers. Consider various options like biodegradable wrappers, recyclable boxes, and attractive labels. Establish relationships with reliable suppliers to ensure you get the best materials at competitive prices.
5. Developing Your Brand
Branding is key to differentiating your packaging business from competitors. Develop a unique brand identity that reflects the quality and style of your packaging. Create a memorable logo, design eye-catching packaging, and build a cohesive brand image that resonates with your target market.
6. Marketing and Sales
Effective marketing strategies are essential for attracting clients to your packaging business. Leverage digital marketing platforms such as social media, email campaigns, and a professional website to showcase your packaging designs. Participate in local trade shows, craft fairs, and networking events to connect with potential clients in the soap industry.
Offer samples to soap manufacturers and retailers to demonstrate the quality and appeal of your packaging. Building strong relationships with your clients can lead to repeat business and referrals.
7. Financial Management
Proper financial management is crucial for the sustainability of your business. Keep track of all expenses, including materials, equipment, and marketing costs. Set competitive prices for your packaging solutions while ensuring they cover costs and provide a profit margin. Consider using accounting software or hiring a financial advisor to manage your finances effectively.
8. Scaling Your Business
As your business grows, you may consider scaling up operations. This could involve expanding your product line, investing in advanced packaging machinery, or hiring additional staff. Continuously assess market trends and customer feedback to adapt and improve your offerings.
Tumblr media
Conclusion
Starting a soap packaging business from home in Canada is a viable and rewarding opportunity for entrepreneurs with a passion for design and a keen eye for detail. By understanding the market, adhering to regulations, and focusing on quality and branding, you can build a successful business that meets the needs of soap makers and appeals to consumers. With careful planning and strategic execution, your home-based packaging business can thrive in the dynamic Canadian market.

as my local nature center is out of stock (potentially forever--/stares blankly at the wall), I have switched to using the Canadian roaster that I used for my parents' xmas gift last year for my coffee needs -- birds and beans.
it is certified as bird-friendly by the Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center (the specific criteria are kinda interesting), and is organic, fair trade, shade-grown, small family farms/cooperatives, compostable bags, etc.
the roasters have recently partnered with Audubon (their online bird guide is the best one out there) to sell within the U.S., donating a portion of the proceeds, which is convenient for me.
I'm trying the light and medium roasts. I'm still too scared of the Starbucks-ification of dark roasts, so I'm staying away from that for now. [their Canadian site still has a greater variety of roasts than the Audubon selections, so maybe I'll order directly from them in the future and just make a donation to Audubon myself.]
[I have a coupon if you want one]
[this is not an ad. I just like coffee, birds, and supporting charitable organizations and small businesses.]

so incredibly fucked how whenever ever we get inklings of capitalism or fascism failing we immediately get ppl saying ‘oh but think about the ppl that will be affected by this they will suffer if the system is slightly inconvenienced and they will use either sympathetic language or misappropriate social justice language. like with the railway workers in the USA seeing mainstream news coverage about it being potentially devastating for the economy as a reason for the government to take action by crushing these workers instead of materially improving their conditions. or when shinzo abe got shot and the queen died and all us global brown ppl who have been directly affected by these families’ crimes celebrating and ppl being like ‘life is hard for people in japan and the UK’ like yeah duh they are fascist and colonial forces from east to west. the logical conclusion should be that these forces should be abolished beyond their deaths, not telling ppl to watch their mouth lol. like we honestly live in a dystopic society wherein every minor oppressive failure is ‘actually bad because ppls lives could get temporarily worse’ that is NOT because of these minor actions though. anyone who has done even an inkling of historical or decolonial research knows that because colonialism was such a violent force that the process of decolonization will also be violent. it is impossible for it to not when england expects however much money to have been dedicated to the queens war crime celebration funeral. and the thing in the suez canal too. i saw some anarchists be like ‘um think of the working class people who will suffer from their jobs being halted’ as if they are not already full of exploitation migrant labour or being ransacked by the western world… like actually i am praying for the wests downfall and global indigenous sovereignty and the removal of all US military bases and sanctions. I also think all south american, asian, and african nations should kick western resource extraction companies out of their land and we should all be making fair trade deals w each other. and in canada we should abolish the treaties which are coercive by nature and completely rehaul the extraction industries - no more canadian owned mines and man camps and to get rid of the contemporary indian agent and require everyone in med school to serve in remote areas w free health care etc etc like in cuba… anyway… every time there is small usually accidental failure of capitalism everybody’s inner liberal comes out so they can be the most sympathetic or whatever… it’s annoying i hope the US dollar and the pound drop more 🙏🏼

do not buy this fucking chocolate
normally i'm not someone to leave a shit review on a product like this. however, i have recently discovered how awful this chocolate is. i was at my local fair trade lesbian-run coffee shop chain and my mom had told me to get her something chocolatey. this is where i made my first mistake. i did not see the list of ingredients that were not included, as it was behind the display. i initially assumed it was a fair trade chocolate with like, no labor exploitation or something. which would fit with the theme of the shop. there was also no price listed. i added it to my usual order, (iced hazelnut latte and pecan square, which i quite like.) the barista scanned it. EIGHT FUCKING DOLLARS. for 60g of chocolate. at eight dollars canadian (roughly 6 USD) i expected a life-changing experience. i was wrong. my mom and i tried this. it has been the single worst chocolate ive ever tasted. if you're into eating flavoured sour beeswax this is the product for you. but unless you're a food oriented masochist with deep pockets, i would stay the fuck away from this chocolate. youre better off buying a fucking cadbury dairy milk chocolate bar for like, two bucks. do not fucking buy this chocolate.

strike one
As someone whose working life actually started in a union, and a mother (derogatory) who was a union activist (abusers can be outwardly good people blah blah), I have a pretty solid understanding of the ins-and-outs of unions.
I got my first job at 14 in a chain grocery store floral stand. I was automatically in a union. It never affected me until my manager warned me we might be on strike soon. I asked why and he looked at me, fresh out of 8th grade, making less than minimum wage (because it's actually legal to pay students less even though I was working almost full-time) with no benefits and still technically on probation and thus not entitled to the 10% off groceries card that came with the job and remembered volunteering to take my mothers' cart thru the checkout to get us that 10% off till I did get my card, and this is a run on sentence for good reason. He said, "I can't give you a good reason."
"Can you give me *a* reason?"
"Full-timers are holding out for a health care insurance increase." Oh. Okay. I'm a child and don't understand 85% of those words.
Luckily we didn't strike, but looking back, I completely disagree with his initial statement. He *did* give me a good reason - or at least a fairly decent one. For 2007, downright progressive.
But a few days pass and next time I see him I ask my manager about it and he says not to worry [about the strike, not about him], we made a deal. To me this sounded kinda shady, because I'm a child and have only heard the term "make a deal" used on CSI when someone is getting stabbed etc. I asked what the deal was.
"We got 85% [health care] coverage." Oh, that's good. The more the better, right? I'm a child.
He looks at me as if I'd just spoken tongues. "Why would you even care? It doesn't affect you, you're technically part-time [and thus not entitled to ANY health care]?"
Maybe now's a good time to say that he's a boomer. The concept of someone actually wanting someone else to have something they don't have genuinely shocked him.
I think it's also the time to mention that I'm Canadian - when we bargain over health care, we're talking eyes/teeth/mental health care - all should be included but they're not.
"Because... everyone should have full health coverage?" It just sent him.
I may have mentioned that I was a kid through all of this - because even as a marginalized class of worker, I still held solidarity with the people in my department.
Now, I'm a cook by trade but an artist by passion (and occasionally commission). I work in 2 departments. And even though the SAG-AFTRA are higher-ups and full-timers and I am not, I still hold solidarity.
I fully believe we should ALL support this strike, but I'd like to appeal to the artists among us, and the creative within all of us:
If any of us ever want to be fairly compensated for art - generated by a human with a soul and passion - we have to support "higher ups" getting fairly compensated for same.
Remember how I said I was a kid earlier? And I came to that ~incredibly enlightened~ position? Yeah, it was a kid just shoehorning the concept of "union bargaining" into "The Golden Rule". Because it doesn't take a lot of thought to show our work on that exercise.
It really is that simple. Treat the writers and actors the way you, a hopeful fiction writer or a local theatre actor, or you, an Etsy jewelry maker or custom portraiteer, the freelance taxedermist, the for-hire graphic designer, would like to be treated. With, at minimum, fairness.
The situations aren't 1:1, and of course I'm in favor of all of us getting a fair deal, if we want to set a precedent, now has never been a better time.
Stay Greater, Flamingos

Canada Place, Vancouver
Canada Place is a building situated on the Burrard Inlet in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. It is home to the Vancouver Convention Centre, the Pan Pacific Vancouver Hotel, the Vancouver World Trade Centre, and the virtual flight ride FlyOver Canada. The building's exterior is covered by fabric roofs resembling sails. It is also the main cruise ship passenger terminal for the region, where cruises to Alaska originate. The building was designed by architects Zeidler Roberts Partnership in joint venture with Musson Cattell Mackey Partnership and DA Architects + Planners.
Canada Place is accessed via West Cordova Street and near Waterfront Station, a major transit hub with SkyTrain, SeaBus, and West Coast Express connections.
The structure was expanded in 2001 to accommodate another cruise ship berth. During the 2010 Winter Olympics, Canada Place served as the Main Press Centre.
Canada Place was built on the land which was originally the Canadian Pacific Railway's Pier B–C. Built in 1927, its primary purpose was to serve CPR and other shipping lines trading across the Pacific Ocean.
In 1978 Federal, Provincial and Municipal governments commenced planning for development of convention, cruise ship and hotel facilities. Four years later, the Government of Canada created a crown corporation, the Canada Harbour Place Corporation (known as Canada Place Corporation until 2012), to develop the Canada Place project on the Pier B–C site. Construction began when Queen Elizabeth II arrived on the Royal Yacht Britannia with Pierre Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada and William R. Bennett, Premier of BC to initiate the first concrete pour.
During Expo 86, the Canada Pavilion at Canada Place was opened by Prince Charles and Brian Mulroney, Prime Minister of Canada. Among the largest and most elaborate pavilions presented by any nation at any World's Fair, the Canada Pavilion hosted more than 5 million visitors prior to the October 13, 1986 closing date.
Canada Place Corporation (CPC), a Crown agent, continues to act as the coordinating landlord for Canada Place facilities.

The line about how Logan once brought down a Canadian government over grain subsidies is kind of funny to me bc it’s just vague enough to be plausible - Canada exports a fair amount of grain to the US, and the US is generally our biggest trading partner, so yeah, grain subsidies being a major political issue, behind the scenes, makes a lot of sense.
But.
Logan mostly wields his political power through his news outlets, and THATS where it becomes funny to me, because US news outlets do NOT give a shit about Canadian government. Even when there’s an election - something that could conceivably have a significant impact on US trade and foreign policy - they basically just go ‘oh look Canada has a new leader now’, if that. At the same time, a lot of Canadians follow one or two US news outlets, in addition to our own, so it is plausible that ATN going hard against a sitting government could cause enough unrest in the Canadian public, in turn leading the Opposition to call for a vote of no confidence, possibly triggering an early general election that would unseat the sitting government. But it ALSO means that for a good 6-12 months ATN’s conservative US viewership was bombarded with EXTENDED discussions of the Canadian political system and agricultural policy. So is there just a chunk of US conservatives in the succverse who have a lot of opinions about Canadian politics, except all of those opinions are based in 80s-90s era policy that’s no longer relevant?
Or in other words. Is there a chunk of conservatives in the succverse US who rabidly support Brian Mulroney? The prime minister who is probably most-hated by Canadians on BOTH sides of the political aisle? Brian Mulroney, our biggest political punchline? THAT Brian Mulroney???

Lula’s Return: Reviving Progress, Anti-Racism, Democracy, and Relations with Africa in Brazil
Tumblr media
In a press conference on July 19th, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva expressed his desire for Brazil to restore its “good, fruitful” relations with Africa. He further announced plans for future visits to African countries, showcasing his proactive approach toward fostering collaborations between the two regions.
The complicated relationship between Brazil and African countries is rooted in the dark period of the slave trade, where approximately 5.5 million slaves were forcefully relocated to work in Brazil’s sugarcane industry, leaving a deep African cultural imprint on Brazil. To this day, racism and paternalism plague Brazilian society. While Black people make up only 4.7% of executives in Brazil’s top 500 companies, they account for 75% of murder victims and 75% of those killed by police. In addition, the average Black Brazilian earned only 57% of a white Brazilian’s salary during the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite these shocking statistics and numerous historical attempts to “whiten” the country, several Brazilian politicians have denied accusations of systemic racism, accusing social justice groups of bringing unnecessary tensions into the country.
When President Lula first stepped into office in 2003, he was determined to combat racism. He asserted that “Brazilian society was built on the work, the sweat and the blood of Africans,” revealing his moral obligation to rekindle the relationship and strengthen cooperation. During his first two terms, he visited 23 African countries, generating a sevenfold increase in trade within only a decade. Unfortunately, such progress was lost under subsequent presidents such as Michel Termer and Jair Bolsonaro. Termer attempted to close 11 of Brazil’s 37 embassies in Africa, and Bolsonaro’s administration was plagued with racist and xenophobic policies. He even compared a quilombo – a rural community established by those who escaped slavery – to cattle, claiming that “They do nothing! They are not even good for procreation”.
Many leaders have thus applauded Lula’s third return to the presidency in 2023, with U.S. President Joe Biden celebrating Brazil’s “fair and credible” elections and Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador tweeting: “Lula won. The people of Brazil are blessed. There will be equality and humanity.” Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Argentina President Alberto Fernandez, and many others similarly celebrated the election results. With Lula back in office, people anticipate a return to democracy.

“"IF WE CAN CONSCRIPT MEN WE CAN CONSCRIPT WEALTH",” Toronto Star. March 1, 1933. Page 18.  ---- But Capt. Philpott Prefers Alternative of Issuing Dominion Money ---- SEES NEW WORLD --- Bronte, March 1. - A new social order, based on the inherent right of man to work for a living, and incorporating the best features of the present capitalistic system, but with a "new deal" for the working classes, is the only hope for defeating the depression in Canada, Capt. E. M. Philpott told a meeting of the Men's Community club here last night.
"In the last 23 years there have been more changes in the world than ever in history before," Capt. Philpott stated. "And in the next 23 years I predict there will be even greater changes. As it stands now, the world has learned to produce as much with as it needs, but it is so selfish it has not learned how to distribute it.
"The present political machinery is outworn, and there is graft and corruption, not in one party, but in all parties. If I could see 50 years ahead, I think I could see the present antiquated form of abolished, and party new politics order a established. The world is facing an unprecedented crisis in the near future, and unless we can get together as Canadians and rebuild the whole structure from the ground, many will be buried in the ruins.
Capitalism Unfair "The war and the depression have shown the unfairness of cut-throat capitalism. I don't pretend to have at solution, but I can suggest that we compare the manner in which we wage war, but yet fail to do anything. about the depression. For 100 years. we have kept military experts at the nation's capital ready for war, but during that time we have bad ten depressions and no one did anything. about it. Those depressions did more to harm Canada than ever war did during that time.
"Seeing men lined up before soup kitchens, as we can in any city to-day, reminds me of the signs we used to see during the war, pro- claiming Your King and country need you.' I think that now they should have a sign, 'Your King and country don't need you now.' Surely, if the country can tell a man he must fight and die in time of war, a man has a right to say to his country. that in peace he has a right to live and work. The cornerstone of a new social system is the right to work. If the present system cannot provide work. the sooner it collapses the exist.
"Even in good times, how can the farmer get a fair price for his products, when, for example, the stock in dairies has been watered. 1,600 per cent., and similarly with other farm products? This exploitation is not confined to persons of any one political party, and all parties are responsible for letting them exist.
"In the new order, any private concern operating against public interest would either be put out of business or taken over by the state.”
Farmer Must Control "The farmer must control the distribution of his basic products.
"Canada is much too over-governed. Why should we need ten parliaments when England gets along with one? This waste cannot go on. In future trade competition is going to be much keener, and the government will either have to cut down the fixed charges of the farmer or bring farm produce prices back to normal. Financial interests would be ill-advised to attempt to prevent the restoration of balance between farmers' income and expenditure. They would lose far more in the crash that will come.
"The trouble now is not with external trade but with selfishness within the country. You cannot blame world conditions for Canadians starving and going half clad when wheat rots in storage and factories are cluttered up with goods. they cannot dispose of.
"If private enterprise cannot find men work, public enterprise must do it. There should be set up a national employment board to find work for those who cannot find it themselves. They could be employed in making and improving highways, clearing up slums and building central heating plants.
"Hours of labor could be cut down in proportion to the increasing efficiency of machinery. Objectors say we cannot afford to put these projects into operation, but I maintain that we cannot afford not to.
"We cannot succeed if the Liberals alone undertake it, nor the C.C.F., nor the Conservatives. Everyone in every party must pull together."

Any headcanons for Nyo!Canada?
I’m going to headcanon her name as Violet Matthew’s because I think it works for her. And I was unable to find a common name that people call her I just looked it up on the Hetalia Wiki and the fandom seems to not have picked a name for her soooooo. Here we are.
An absolute sweetheart with a heart of gold 🍁
Her home is decorated with all Sanrio, large stuffed teddy bears that are dressed in red and white ribbons with maple leaf charms.
Her closet definitely has a plethora of berry, bunny, and teddy bear-themed sweet Lolita-Fashion clothes. She attends tea parties with Alice in them and is active in her community of frilly friends.
She’s talented at sewing and embroidery. She even crafts some of her own hats and hair accessories.
She makes the most fantastic baked goods and of course, her famous Maple pancakes that never fails to light up the face of any who try. The soft fluff of the pancakes mixed in with the fresh butter that is made by a local farmer pulled together with the fresh farm eggs will make you pause and relish in the delightful flavor.
She can be timid unless she’s accompanied by her loud and rambunctious sister Amelia. Whom also gives her lessons on how to be brave. She’s learning slowly. But she still likes to keep to herself with her cat and talking bears up in the Canadian woods. She goes shopping every so often at the local markets down below in Saguenay, Québec .
She definitely stargazes on most nights when nights are calm and quiet and she enjoys the sound of the calm crisp winds that whistle past her ears. She also lights to watch her fair town illuminate at night with colorful lights that grace the river beside it. It’s where she does find her inspiration to create and comes up with new ideas to create embroidery patterns. She also does a little bit of light sketching while she lets her mind wander on the rooftop.
She enjoys the festivals that are put on ear year but her favorites are: The International Rythm of the World, FIAMS Festival des arts de à marionette a Saguenay, and Festival des Bières d’Alma. (She does like to get swifty from time to time with Beer or wine.)
She’s talented at ice skating and does beautifully executed Salchow jumps, Axel jumps, and her favorite : the Quadruple Axel. (Anya definitely helped her learn these moves together the two of them look like graceful swans.)
Her favorite musical artists are Taylor Swift, Porter Robinson, Benne, Shawn Mendes, to name a few. And yes, she totally dances around in her home and has fun with that for hours.
❤️ Her Psychology & Relationships ❤️
She can be co-dependent on her older sisters Amelia and Alice when they come to visit. What that looks like is she’s overly apologetic when Amelia or Alice cause a ruckus with their antics. Alice when she summons demons and it causes some poor shop owner, or anyone who may have been rude to have a haunting until she can get an exorcist or Alice herself to reverse herself. She even comes to the person who has been at the back end of the curse to bring them flowers, sweets, and an apology letter. When it’s Amelia, she usually has to apologize to anyone foolish enough to challenge her because they will usually end up in the hospital or sometimes dead.
Amelia somewhere in the background: “IT HAPPENED ONE TIME, DAMN IT AND IT WAS AN ACCIDENT!”
Viloet’s mantra in her head is something to the effect of if they’re upset about something she will do anything to fix it even if it’s something that is out of her control or not even her fault. She wants the two of them to approve of her and her activities constantly. It’s a hit or miss usually when she presents new trade deals, treaties, or economic plans when at world meetings. Violet does have to practice in a mirror for at least an hour or so before she goes to any world meetings. Her anxiety dictates that she has to do so unless she feels like she’ll fail miserably if she doesn’t. However, if you do listen closely she does quiver a little bit.
Her anxiety also applies to some of the things that she crates if she doesn’t deem it perfect then she won’t post it on her Pinterest or other social media that she uses on occasion.
Violet is close friends with Anya they are able to meet up every six months or so for a week to go shopping, go to a convention, go to a spa, and other fun things they do together and keep it on the down-low. Anya to some degree acts as her confidence coach and teacher her to stand up for herself by having rage room sessions and giving her tips on how not to give into her overbearing anxiety.

Nova Scotia Power parent company expected to detail impact of power rate cap
The fallout from the Nova Scotia government's imposed rate cap on the province's privately owned electrical utility is expected to be detailed during Emera Inc.'s earnings call today.
The parent company of Nova Scotia Power says it will provide an updated rate base investment forecast and funding plan during its third-quarter call.
The utility had applied for a nearly 14 per cent rate hike over two years with the provincial regulator earlier this year.
But the province stepped in and passed legislation to limit the power rate increase to 1.8 per cent over the next two years, excluding increases linked to fuel costs.
The changes to the Public Utilities Act also took aim at the utility's profit by preventing the regulator from approving a rate of return on equity any higher than 9.25 per cent, down from the 9.5 per cent requested.
Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston said last month on Twitter his government would "take the necessary steps to protect you from unfair rate increases while helping to ensure your lights stay on."
The Oct. 19 announcement sent Emera shares tumbling more than 10 per cent following a temporary trading halt, before recovering to just under five per cent down at close at $51.68 a share.
Nova Scotia Power said the cap has restricted its ability to invest in power grid upgrades and renewable sources of energy.
"This legislation prevents us from investing a planned half a billion dollars in clean energy projects in Nova Scotia," Nova Scotia Power spokeswoman Jacqueline Foster said in an email.
"It will take time to fully assess the implications of the legislation," she said. "In the meantime, we've pressed pause on our team's work on the Atlantic Loop."
The Atlantic Loop is a proposed $5-billion transmission megaproject, which would give the region more access to Labrador and Quebec hydroelectricity.
It's a key part of efforts to end the region's reliance on coal power.
Both Nova Scotia and New Brunswick have committed to phasing out their coal-fired generation by 2030, while Nova Scotia has enshrined in law its goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to at least 53 per cent below 2005 levels by 2030 and to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.
Federal Natural Resources Minister Jonathan Wilkinson has said Nova Scotia has limited options to meet its goal of getting off coal asides from the Atlantic Loop, but called the conflict between Emera and the province a "bump in the road."
RBC Dominion Securities Inc. analyst Maurice Choy said in a client note that the cap could prompt Emera to limit investments in Nova Scotia Power and "redirect the capital to other parts of its business, including Florida."
Emera is the parent company of Tampa Electric, which operates on the west coast of Florida.
Choy also noted that Emera could cut 60 new reliability-related jobs outlined in the utility's 2022 general rate application filed in January as part of a broader effort to rein in operating costs.
Energy analyst Bill Marshall said the government shouldn't interfere in the work of the provincial regulator.
"The entity that exists, that is empowered to decide whether the application is fair or not, is the the Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board," said Marshall, president at WKM Energy Consultants Inc. in Fredericton, N.B. "They're the entity that has the power and responsibility to ensure Nova Scotia Power's investments are prudent and in the best interests of customers in Nova Scotia."
He added: "The government has overstepped its authority here by handcuffing the regulator from doing its job."
This report by The Canadian Press was first published Nov. 11, 2022.
