Part 2: "Mixed Message" - They lost the plot

I've always said timelines matter, the spaces in between matter and always always always motivation matters. So, to anyone who thinks that Lukola would purposely pay for the most chaotic narrative ever that toys w/ fans, teeters on career suicide and puts everyone involved in a less than favorable light (to put it mildly), perhaps it's time to come out of the shadows into the light, to use a BT0N phrase.

This, ironically, has been one big MIXED MESSAGE and a not-so secret secret that has completely LOST THE PLOT a long time ago. This is why we see OGs holding on by a thread and so many new theories/ side plots emerging that make less sense than the one before. But Lukolas aren't crazy and what we've been left with lately is a "Where's Waldo" of finding the plot, and a push & pull that leaves any sane person scratching their head.

Anyone able to keep track of the plot there??? Because if you think PR engineered this absolute shiteshow then they're wasting their money. And this last round of pap pics have been brutal towards L's image (take a cursory look at the comments on sm if you can stand it, and you'll see what I mean) - that's not a rebrand, that's sadomasochistic, if purposeful.

Since last summer, all I've seen is Lukola trying to emerge as a couple and constantly being shut down, redirected, reprimanded or restricted...

Lando is so clingy boyfriend coded even as he's maturing, so he'd absolutely need you by his side as much as possible, but especially on race weekends. You ground him, you make him feel like a king, so moments with you before practice/qualifying/the race get him in that perfect mindset. Arriving on the paddock hand in hand, him beaming, you trying not to ugly laugh over the inappropriate joke he just whispered. Lowkey matching your outfits - he'd so get you a necklace that matches his!! - and he'd proudly wear a bracelet with your name on it. (Fans would adore you, obvs)

Quickies in his driver's room, him rushing to media with flushed cheeks and sparkling eyes and scratches on his neck. Oscar facepalms and shakes his head.

He's a dog guy but he'd come home from a few days at the MTC with a kitten because he knows you love cats - the same day you come home with a dog to surprise him.

In turn he'd fully support your career and interests. Gardening? He helps you set up a container garden on the apartment balcony. Cooking? He'll sit on a stool in the kitchen handing you ingredients and insist on doing the washing up. You're a writer? He's booking trips to the places you want to write about. Corporate badass? When you get home from work and need to rant about that bitch Francine in marketing he's commiserating and now he hates Francine on your behalf.

The relationship is as private as can be when one's dating a formula one driver, but he casually mentions you in interviews. "Oh yeah my girlfriend and I are going there next week" when another driver mentions NYC/Thailand/wherever. "My girlfriend's favourite" when asked about a local dish or dessert. And always, always, with slightly pink cheeks and a little grin.

Back to being at the races! No matter the outcome the first thing he does is go to you for a hug. Whether it's a joyous we did it or a more solemn did my best but... he needs your embrace as soon as he's out of the car. During a drama free race he will pop on the radio with a cheeky "she hasn't gone to sleep has she? tell her I love her" to Will.

It's late nights staying awake with him listening to him ramble when he gets in his head and feels insecure. It's running your fingers through his hair while his head's on your lap. It's his cologne in your clothes and your lipgloss on his cheek. It's driving around Monaco in his latest car while he theatrically panics in the passenger seat. It's laughter - so much laughter.

I can hardly believe it, but I'm actually thinking (rather impulsively) of getting a ticket and buying plane flights to the LessOnline conference in San Francisco that will be at the end of this month. My primary motivation is the one you'd expect: I want the experience of prolonged meatspace hanging-out and discussions with serious rationalist people. I could get this at the NYC Rationalist Megameetup, which is whole lot closer to where I live, and I have attended the Secular Solstice part of it these last three years, but I don't know if I'll ever make it to the full Megameetup since December is a very stressful month for me as an academic; late May / early June, on the other hand, is a very easy time for me to take a break from work. (I wouldn't even have to tell my colleagues that I'm leaving for a weekend, let alone what I'd be doing, which I'd prefer to keep separate from my professional life as long as that's in academia.) And the NYC rationalist crowd is obviously a different one from the (much more central) rationalist crowd I'll find in the Bay Area.

The other motivation, though, is that I'm at a critical point now where I seriously want to consider a career switch to coding, but I'm extremely agnostic on whether this is a good idea, especially with the state of AI, and I have a feeling there might be a coder or two at this conference that also just might have an opinion on the future of AI.

It also looks like the total cost of travel, lodging, and ticket, and main meals would come to $1000 or not much more (more than half of which would be the ticket!), which is something I can afford and doesn't feel too frivolous, especially given that I now pretty much know I'll still be gainfully employed after this summer.

One suggested activity mentioned on the LessOnline website is writing a small essay with a provocative thesis and being prepared to read the essay out loud and discuss/debate it with a small crowd. I'd be quite interested in doing this and even have an idea about what thesis I would defend (it's one I've never declared or defended head-on here, in fact).

Pros of going: I have an extremely blank and free summer ahead of me that needs enhancing with a little traveling and small diversion or two rather than just sitting with my head down trying to work on research; it sounds incredibly fun in every detail; I'd finally get to meet people I've admired from afar for years like Scott Alexander and Aella; maybe I could meet a few people I know from Tumblr as well; I'd learn something about the Bay Area programming world (which I'm entertaining thoughts of joining, if it can be in a way that doesn't involve physically moving there); I'd be inspired by and get to learn more about rationalist culture; there would be almost zero stress involved in terms of missing other responsibilities; not too many people would even have to know what I'm up to.

Cons of going: it'll still take me away from work for a long weekend; it's still an unexpected expense; travel (especially plane travel, especially across a long distance) tends to stress me out; my risk of blending my online-under-Liskantope life with the rest of my life would be increased; just as at the (much briefer) Secular Solstices, I would become depressingly aware of how not-a-true-committed-rationalist and how poor an effective altruist I am, not even having ever made a GiveWell pledge or been active on LessWrong; I would feel dumber than most of the people there and would have trouble following, let alone contributing, to many of the conversations; the sensation of being an imposter (outside of the possible essay-discussing activity mentioned above) would probably be severe. (The first three or four of these cons feel fairly minor, while the last ones give me pretty serious reservations.)

How MY internship at Stark Industries works: simplified

What is it?:

So basically— I am a Junior/teen Intern, which is offered to students from ages 14-19 who pass an entrance exam (don’t ask me how I passed— I genuinely don’t know). From there, you have an interview, then blah blah blah some stuff and you’re placed In a division! Then you’ll work near whatever major building for Stark industries is closest to your location, (I.G; Miami Florida, NYC New York, And for me— San Francisco California.)

What Division are you?:

I work in R&D, also known as research and development! Essentially we build stuff, we test stuff from other departments, and fix everyone’s stuff to make it better. Personally, my job is to test whatever I’m handed— teen interns don’t get to test world ending stuff, or anything too dangerous. But! I have tested a couple of the iron-man gauntlets which were sick. Otherwise, I’m stuck doing what everyone else doesn’t wanna do.

Isn’t this like illegal?:

Nuh uh! According to California legal code and crap (don’t ask me federal. I don’t know hun.) a student internship is fully legal as long as a couple criteria is met;

The internship's primary purpose must be for the intern's learning and training, not for the employer's immediate benefit or productivity.

The internship should be tied to the student's formal education program, whether through required coursework or academic credit.

The internship should complement, not displace, the work of paid employees.

The intern's work should be similar to training they would receive in an educational setting.

Woah, crazy right! And since I got this internship through my school it counts as not one, but two classes for me! It counts towards my elective credits and my career tech credits! Insane bro!

But Sunny! Didn’t you say you get paid?:

Great question me! Anyways, yes I get paid, because currently I’m doing additional hours and work outside of the regular teen internship program. So, those additional hours count as my slow transition into being a full time paid internship (bunch of different laws there babes. I hate legal shmegal stuff.) but at the moment Its only a partial paid internship.

Why are you like. In New York half the time then?:

Woah bro! Easy answer! Since this internship counts for school credits, I’m allowed to travel for school, of which the duration I’m traveling I either can do a make up work packet or do online school. Depending on how long I’m needed in another state, I’ll switch between the two. And before you ask; my parents did sign off. They don’t care like at ALL where I am or what I’m doing as long as I ain’t high, drunk, or getting bad grades.

What else is there to know?:

Student interns get dorms to reside in while outside of their home state/county. I’m on year two (2) of my internship, I only work with Mr.Stark because he met me when I was working stark expo and..? Kept..? Wanting to work with me..? (Crazy right.) uhm. Oh! Stark industries is better than hammer tech. That’s all!

Clifton James in the 1950s

Clifton James was born in 1920 in Spokane, WA and grew up in Oregon. He was a decorated WWII Veteran who served in the South Pacific. After the war he moved to NYC. His first known screen appearance was on tv in an episode on Inside Detective in 1953.

Clifton James, made his movie debut at 36 years old in 1957s The Strange One, a movie about hazing in a Military Academy. Clifton, although from the Northwest starts his movie career as a Colonel with a southern accent, he will use that accent in many more roles in his career. This film pushed the Hayes Code Rules with homosexual undertones. They weren't blatant, but some scenes were cut in some areas where the film was shown. Cine Historian on YouTube goes into detail about the scenes. I personally have lost the ability to pay full attention to at-home entertainment. This film was also the film debuts for Ben Gazzara, Pat Hingle and George Peppard.

Clifton James' next role was in an episode of Decoy, a TV show about a policewoman (played by Beverly Garland) in NYC who often goes undercover, in 1957, he plays a patrolman. The first of many times he will play a law enforcement officer.

Clifton James appeared in his first of 5 episodes of Gunsmoke in 1958.

After a couple appearances on The Phil Silvers Show and 2 teleplays, Clifton James played a Prison Guard during a jailbreak in The Last Mile starring Mickey Rooney in 1959.

In June, 1959 Clifton James played a gun range operator in an episode of The Naked City.

A24 is shifting gears with its first-ever rom-com, Materialists, and honestly, it's about time. The indie studio has built its reputation on its terrifying horror films, gritty dramas, and brain-twisting thrillers, but now they're diving into love triangles and witty banter headfirst.

Leading the charge is Dakota Johnson as Lucy, a sharp-tongued New York City matchmaker who's excellent at finding love for others but doesn't seem to have any use for her own. At least, that is, until she encounters a smooth-talking and ridiculously handsome new socialite (Pedro Pascal), only to run into her down-on-his-luck ex (Chris Evans) on the same night. Cue the romantic chaos.

The casting alone has people buzzing. The internet has literally exploded at the prospect of Evans and Pascal vying for Johnson's affections, and honestly, who wouldn't? Pascal is the ultimate go-to for a billionaire with charm—maybe Rege-Jean Page could have pulled it off too, but Pascal is perfect. And Johnson? She's built a career on choosing interesting projects, and seeing her in a rom-com is both unexpected and fitting.

Rom-coms have been struggling in recent years. Either they're so desperate to defy expectations that they neglect to be fun, or they stick so closely to the formula that they're just. boring. But Materialists seems to have cracked the code. It's embracing the tropes we love—hello, love triangle—without feeling like a cookie-cutter throwback. Bridget Jones' Diary levels of romantic tension, but with an A24 twist, is what I'm hoping for.

Rom-coms are meant to be predictable, albeit in a positive way. You anticipate heartbreak, drama, and a happily ever after, and if Materialists delivers that and can make it feel fresh, then it might be the movie to resurrect the genre.

Relativity Falls Thoughts aka Bones breaks it down

I can’t do a perfect 1:1 translation so Aggie inhabits Olive’s role as the child, and Olive takes over Aggie’s grandma-from-the-backstory role, but to keep her connected to the story I’m borrowing elements from McGucket for her.

Olive grew up with Dipper and Mabel, and was always closer with Dipper despite her and Mabel being “the girls.” Olive was big into the nerdy shit thanks to her academic parents, who divorced when she was young which led her to spending a lot of time at her friends house when he dad travelled. (Her mom never came back.)

When Mabel does whatever thing she does to “ruin” Dipper’s Life, Olive isn’t there. She was visiting her dad. She came back from her trip to one less friend and her remaining one was PISSED. She only ever really got Dipper’s side of the story, which naturally put Mabel in a negative light.

Olive could have probably gone to any ritzy school in the country (She was a real scholarly type) but she ended up going to BMU, following Dipper. Her reasoning is that BMU offers curricula which can get you multiple degrees (How else would Ford have so many PHDs) but really she’s worried about Dipper being on his own and she (Mirroring Aggie and Stan in canon) has had a crush on him since she was a kid, so she wants to keep him close.

Since Olive is a girl and I’m imagining the dorms werent co-ed, they weren’t roommates but instead lived above/below each other’s rooms. They’d tap out messages in morse code on the floor/ceiling.

Taking inspiration from a lot of college fiddauthor headcanons, they DO come together at some point and have something of a relationship, though they’re both so swamped with school it’s a very??? Non committal thing, which suits Dipper fine but Olive is ever pining for him.

I haven’t quite figured out what makes them split up after graduation- Olive probably has her own endeavor she’s looking for and after years of on and offing with her best friend she thinks maybe she can try to move on. Reflecting Aggie’s time in NYC, that is where she goes, and where she is when Dipper Calls her for help.

During her time in New York, (pretty early on) Olive had her son, who she named David after a famous German mathematician. David’s biological father is, as Olive Recalls, “The only one who got the math joke I told at a bar.” (Basically it was a one time thing and she honestly doesn’t remember much about him at all! Oops!)

Initially, she was a pretty good mom. A little scattered and overwhelmed being single and trying to get her feet underneath her- Having a child sort of slowed her career to a crawl. But that wasn’t David’s fault. He’s pretty young still when she gets the call to come to Oregon and she drops EVERYTHING go do it bc one she has no prospects and two she’s still burning a candle for Mason (She started calling him that at some point during college.)

She arranged for her dad to look after David while she was away, not thinking she would be gone all that long when in reality, she’d never return to New York.

She joins Mason in Oregon and fully throws herself into the project. She’s dedicated and hard working, a real workhorse type. Here’s where there’s a big shift, I don’t think Olive would form the blind eye society, so in order for that to exist I would say that the other McGucket stand in (Pacifica probably) is also working on the project. When the incident occurs, Olive helps pull Pacifica out of the portal . She quits after the incident, but Olive doesn’t. She wants to see this through with Dipper. Her dedication is enough for Bill to take an interest in her. He can see how hard she works and how dedicated she is so he’s keen to keep her around. With this funky little scientist around the portals getting done much faster than he’s hoped!

However a wrench is thrown into things when her son of all people shows up in Oregon. Her dad couldn’t keep looking after him so he arranged to have him sent to her. Initially she’d called and kept in touch but as the portal progressed and Olive became more and more exhausted, her communication skills slipped. By this time, David is really starting to resent his mother, and is incredibly unhappy to be there. Olive struggles to balance reconnecting with her son and working on the portal. To keep David away from the work she used what meager savings she had to buy a scrap of land in the woods where originally, an old camper sat, and that’s where David spent most of his time. Understandably he became extremely bitter and hateful towards Olive, and she was quickly losing her grip on reality.

Around the time David showed up, Bill started to talk to Olive, wanting to get her on his side the way he had with Mason. Trouble is he kind of gave her too much too fast. Instead of pleasant jaunts into the Nightmare Realm, Bill exposed her to the destruction and chaos he has planned, just hitting her with the big madness all at once. He appears in many of her dreams, and he always seems to be whispering to her to keep working. When she starts to have doubts he flips the script, choosing to threaten her instead.

He obviously knows how she feels about Mason, and he uses that to his advantage. If Olive quit, Mason would be building the portal alone, and who KNOWS if he’s even be able to actually get it built without severely injuring himself? Olive is sturdier, more solid. Dipper NEEDS her to help finish the portal or he might not live to see it activated. In addition, Bill makes threats against her son and although she’s losing a lot of her sense of reality and self she knows that she can’t let her not be hurt. I’m sure there’s some possession and some more mild mind-breaking activities but in the spans of a few weeks Olive is barely herself anymore, she just seems to exist to work on the portal.

She didn’t even notice when David finally ran away.

She isn’t herself, and I think her deterioration plays a role in Mason starting to question things. Once he understood Bill’s real goal he tries to figure out exactly what Bill did to her but she can’t articulate it, she can hardly articulate anything at this point. He gives Olive one of the journals to hide, and explains that he called for further backup.

When Mabel arrives she hardly recognizes Olive, since she’s definitely not the confident spunky girl she once was. She’s a somewhat haunted shell of herself. She is too freaked out to go down to the basement with them, so she sits alone upstairs. When the portal activates and the anomalies start up, Olive is terrified and is overcome with horrible visions and hallucinations- a total psychotic break. When Mabel finally finds her upstairs and she’s nearly catatonic. Mabel is able to shake her out of it but Olive is like an injured animal, initially desperate to know where Mason is and when Mabel tells her, and begs Olive to help with the situation, Olive becomes very aggressive and frightened and before Mabel can really stop her, she runs off. The two wouldn’t speak again for a good long while. Mabel doesn’t even known Olive is still in the area, frankly.

Mabel goes on to set up the Mystery Shack. She’s heard rumors about there being a woman in the woods, and she does eventually investigate and confirms it’s Olive. She once again tries to get her help but Olive inset interested and she threatens Mabel with weapons. By this point most of Olive’s “bunker” has been built from scrap she stole from the dump. (As an aside bc I forgot to mention it, Olive did end up hiding the journal, and it’s the one that the boys find when they visit.)

Olives reputation as madwoman only grew with time, she’d make wild claims about the end of the world as well as being abducted by aliens. This is how she sort of??? Processed her trauma? Like she was very plainly explaining what happened to her she didn’t keep it bottled up but it made no sense and seemed so insane that no one really pays her much mind. This goes on for a good while.

Mabel eventually gives up on Olive, and resigns herself to rebuilding the portal herself. The two have virtually nothing to do with each other for some time until someone shows up at the Shack, looking for Olive. It’s David, (Who Mabel never met) looking for his mother. Mabel doesn’t initially believe him but when she sees the kid he’s got with her she knows he’s serious. Little Aggie is about five or six years old, and a pretty spot on lookalike for the little girl Mabel knew as a kid. She agrees to help David get to Olive.

She leads him out there, and then opts to stay back, not wanting to scare Olive. As she’s heading back home she sees David’s car leaving, but the little girl isn’t in the car anymore. Mabel looks back towards the bunker in the woods. She gets a weird spooky feeling so she leaves.

From there, there’s virtually no contact apart from extremely random chance encounters. Olive seems less afraid/angry at Mabel but she still doesn’t stay around her for long. Mabel does eventually ask about the little girl and Olive DOES assure her that Aggie is fine, and thanks her for asking. At some point when Aggie starts venturing out, she ends up at the Shack a few times just exploring. Once the boys show up and befriend her, she’s there alll the time :))

So that’s most of Olives story, but there are some details that Mabel doesn’t know about (David related) and neither Yearling will talk about but I will talk about it!!! Just not now on this post bc I have a few kinks I gotta work out.

izumi is born as the middle child in a family of overachievers. her father's a finance analyst at a skyscraper somewhere, and her mother's a surgeon. they are impossible to impress, and it takes a while for izumi to realize she does not have to strive to do that, she does not have to for that unachievable goal. at the end of the day, it's clear it will only make her unhappy. albeit their parents are working for most hours of the day ( and night ) the tanaka siblings grow up in a somewhat peaceful and pleasant household. as it is common between siblings, there are screaming matches and spats every once in a while, and it's usually izumi who tries to find the balance in between them. they grow up, and izumi finds her passion in languages. it's her favorite thing about new york, the fact that there are so many people from so many countries. she first realizes her talent with it when speaking with one of their neighbors. she picks up spanish from an old lady who finds her very well-behaved, and cooks for her every once in a while. during high school, she takes as many electives as she can, and joins other language courses. it's clear that she will apply for a linguistics major, and does her best to keep her gpa high. applies to many colleges throughout the country, and is over the moon when she gets into nyu. however, unlike her other siblings, she does not get a full ride, and while her parents are ready to help — she wants to pay them back eventually. university life is different, though it's also a space where she grows and becomes her own person. moving to a flat with a roommate, she learns how to stand on her own two feet. gets close to her professors, and they encourage her to pursue an academic career. after graduating, she gets into grad school. it's difficult to juggle while also working, but izumi wouldn't change it for the world. when it comes to her personality, she is pedantic. usually gets stuck in the details, which helps a lot in her studies, but not so much in real life. super careful, and calculative, the type of person who wants to know exactly the itinerary of a day before going out to meet someone to hang out. she has been trying to cut loose, but it's sometimes a challenge. she loves expressing herself through fashion and clothes, and can be found wearing color-coded outfits depending on the day. cheerful, but can get stuck in her head when something does not go according to plan.

This time for my silly billies, or more accurately, the main cast outside of the teetlz. I’ll probably have less to say on them than the core four, but there’s a few things about these goobers i’ve just GOT to throw out there. Oh also go look at my previous post in this series (this is where i talk about the turtles!) if you haven’t it’s pretty neat. psst! i’ve got another in the works going over character dynamics so keep an eye out for that

Casey Junior: Typically goes by CJ to avoid confusion, whether the J stands for Jones or Junior is up for debate. Trans fella, He/Him. I think about elderqueer!Future Leo helping him figure his egg shit out in the middle of the apocalypse all the time and it brings me great joy, (Watch Future!Donnie whip out old recordings of leo’s crackly ass second puberty voice whenever CJ gets insecure about his💀). Spends half his time in present day NYC seeing people’s faces and going “Damn, did i watch that person die as a kid or am i trippin?”. Since his name got shortened to CJ, a lot of people have taken to shortening it further to “Cee-j” which ended up inspiring his vigilante name; Siege. (I’ve literally never seen anyone try to give any Casey’s vigilante persona an actual name before so there ya go, no further reasoning beyond ‘it sounds cool’). Got adopted by Future!Casey, after being taken to a resistance base camp by his mortally wounded Bio!dad who basically dropped dead on arrival. (Hey it’s like Links backstory in ocarina of time but like- he gets a mom and 4 turtle dads instead of a tree)

April O’Neil: bisexual but with a strong fem preference, and She/Her! Naturally gravitated towards the field of journalism because unlike her previous jobs, being surrounded by weird shit is actually pretty beneficial when you’re trynna report on interesting stuff! It’s actually this shift in career focus that helps her feel less insecure about how weird her life, and by extension, she, is. I mean hey it’s payin the bills, hard to resent that. The first turtle she met was Donnie, the guys were playing basketball when Don missed a pass and the ball bounced away so he had to go get it, only to run into April for the first time. Ofc the first thing she pointed out wasn’t his emerald complexion or stinky sewer smell, but that he was wearing jupiter jim merch, and the rest was history. The turtles all feel bummed about how busy she is since going to college, but want also support their big sis too much to make a stink about it, they know she misses them too. I like to think Leo just portals into her dorm sometimes and her completely normal ass roommate who came from out of town just had to deal with that with 0 explanation given.

Splinter: This right here is a textbook example of an eternal disaster bisexual in action. Jesus fuck this rat can fit so many mental disorders in him. His combined mommy and daddy issues ensured he’d only romantically pursue the most red flag ridden mfs on earth for all time *cough cough* BIG MAMA *cough cough* Because he had bad vision problems post mutation (Rats actually have really bad eyesight irl so i feel like that could be a side affect of being mutated into one) he went out of his way to properly color code the turtles early on so he wouldn’t mix them up. When he first took in the turtles his ass did not know they were sentient (his only points of comparison for them were Draxum’s feral lab experiments) and basically treated them like more like pets up until Raph started talking and he realized “oh shit i’m a father of four now fuck” (this is also why he called them colors to begin with, their names didn’t matter too much if they couldn’t understand them) Once he figured out they were actually kids he finally gave them real names, but he still calls them by color out of habit and now they’re more like silly nicknames. Everything his kids think they get away with without him knowing he 100% knows about. He may be past his prime but his ninja instincts and dad bullshit detector are sharp as ever.

Cassandra Jones: Raging, feral, She/Her, lesbian. Adhd, emphasis on the H. Has at least 1 parent but they are not very active in her life, i mean at least i hope not bc goddam if they’re knowingly letting their kid lead a gang of girlsscouts and get wrapped up in a murder cult then i’ve got some serious questions. Look to Lieutenant and Brute as pseudo parental figures, though it’s largely unreciprocated even if they do somewhat care for her safety at the very least. One of the very few people (outwardly at least) to not at all be changed by the apocalypse. She’s still just as if not more trigger happy and crackheaded during the end of the world than she was before, she is nothing if not consistent. Willingly signs off on Future!Donnie giving CJ the chainsaw hockey stick at like 5 years old, it’s only Leo stepping in to nip that at the bud that prevented that disaster waiting to happen. Adopted CJ basically onsight. She was the one there when his bio-dad showed up and died right in front of the base, saw the baby, scooped him up, and that was that.

Draxum: This man a walking queer coded disney renaissance villain and u think i’m NOT gonna hit him with the gay stick? blasphemy. He/Him, also i read this fic that made him Tamil and i fucked with it heavy so now it lives in my brain rent free. (Go read the But First They Must Catch You series by mudlarkspur on ao3 it’s like my favorite separated au of all the ones i’ve read and i’ve read A LOT of those mfs). Definitely was a lil bit smitten w Lou Jitsu, at least before he rocked his shit and destroyed his life’s work weather or not this starts rearing its head again following his reconciliation with a certain rat man remains to be seen. Began training Mikey in the mystic arts post movie to help him control his powers but eventually somehow also acquired Donnie as a protege (They bond over their shared love of terrorism). Hes not very good at dad stuff like showing affection, but his way of showing it definitely entails giving them the knowledge and skills to take care of themselves should the need arise. Made peace-ish with Leo post movie, after a lengthy dr feelings sesh, Leo still brings up the roof incident all the time though just to fuck with him bc he’s a petty cunt whom i adore.

backstory

traditional upbringing. happy loving parents, only child, perfect child. rarely cried as a baby, got good grades in school, teacher's pet, never rebelled, didn't party, very introverted, followed the rules. very booksmart (2019) coded.

got really into reading in elementary school. initially it was because she liked taking the accelerated reading quizzes in the library and seeing her book numbers stack up, but then it developed into a genuine love for stories that's lasted through adulthood. lit classes were always that bitch.

but science classes were her enemy. she never had the mind for mechanisms and figuring things out, but what truly had her all the way fucked up was seeing and reading carl sagan's take on the pale blue dot. jenny was always the introspective type, but wow did that take make her reevaluate her position in the world and cause her to spiral down an existential crisis at a young age.

for a long time, she didn't see why anything she did or why anything deemed important was actually important, when in the grand scheme of things everything and everyone was so utterly insignificant.

that mindset led to her not being sure what career path to follow going into college. with the help of a college advisor, she ended up getting a degree in library science, primarily because the library was always her favorite place, so she might as well spend her life there.

meanwhile, she also developed an interest in theater slowly throughout her youth. it was a bit of a shock. in her social life she's usually so in the background , so she found a way to really express herself in acting. it's become her primary emotional outlet.

ended up going to college at nyu with the help of scholarships and loans. stayed after graduating. currently works as a library assistant at the new york public library, while also working part time as a waitress at ellen's stardust.

she has three main hobbies: space, literature, and theatre.

her interest in astronomy has only grown since her youth. she maintains a somewhat fatalist attitude about life, but philosophy classes in college helped her gain more perspective on the fragility of life. anyways, you can always catch her looking at the stars at night. she knows a lot about astronomy, but knows very little about astrology. if you talk to her about zodiacs, she's going to think you're taking to her about the constellations, not the personality of the signs.

Remembering actress DOROTHY MACKAILL today on her birthday.

March 4, 1903

Born in England, but living most of her life in the U.S., Mackaill ran away from her Yorkshire home to London, in hopes of having a career on stage. Persuaded to move to NYC, she made friends with Nita Naldi and Marion Davies, and became a 'Ziegfeld Girl’ at age 17.

She was a WAMPAS Baby Star in 1924, in the same class as Clara Bow. She made her first of dozens of silent films in 1920, and made a smooth transition into talkies, starring in over two dozen movies in the Pre-Code era 1929 to 1934.

Her co-stars included such like: Anna May Wong, John Barrymore, Bebe Daniels, Lon Chaney, Noah Beery, Colleen Moore, George O'Brien, among dozens of others. Mackaill was the female lead, with a young Humphrey Bogart, in 1932's "Love Affair", before retiring in 1937 to care for her ailing mother.

From 1955 until her death in 1990, she lived as an unofficial "artist in residence" at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel in Honolulu - even appearing in two episodes of "Hawaii Five-O", in 1976 and 1980.

Mackaill married three times, and had no children, passing away in 1990 in Hawaii at age 87.
