If you asked him, he'd say just what you did: "I have no favorites. They're all my babies. They're all precious and wonderful and how dare you make me choose? I will dagger you!"

Reality: Usually, whoever is causing him the least stress at the time.

Even closer to reality...

He sees so much of himself in Tyler. The angsty kid with a chip on his shoulder. One who's faced so much loss and pain. He watches him struggle with the literal beast within and the guilt that comes with being a werewolf. Tyler hides behind a tough bravado but he's really a scared, insecure little boy who needs love. Klaus was once this boy. And while he had Elijah and Rebekah, he didn't have a parent to understand him.

I feel like Tyler would say that Jeremy is the favorite. Hell, I think Jeremy thinks he's the favorite. But deep down, dagger to the heart, Klaus knows it's Tyler. He'd never show favoritism, but he melts for that little boy. It's also why he's usually the hardest on him. He knows the potential he has.

Klaus did everything to bring his daughter back. But Hope refused to see or even talk to him. Within a few months, Klaus realized that he missed his happy little family. He came to you and your daughter's house one evening. When you opened the door, you wanted to close it back. Klaus held the door, preventing you from closing it.

"Please listen to me."

"Go away, Klaus. Now you have a new wife and love. You'll have new kids soon. Hope and I have new ones to take my place."

"Don't say that. No one can take your place."

Klaus' crying broke your heart. Yes, he broke your heart a lot, but you did not allow your heart to break it. After returning home, your life soon returned to its old days. But your happiness was short-lived when the caregiver came to the door of your home. Klaus had forced the babysitter into his car and drove away from the house. When you asked Klaus what he was doing when he got back, you didn't get an answer. Klaus hugged you and Hope and kissed the two of you on the forehead.

META 003:  A GENERAL OVERVIEW OF KLAUS’ CHILDHOOD.

PREFACE:    hi there !!! if you’ve decided to read this, this is actually just a small summary i can give of his childhood because a lot went down that i probably didn’t add here. i’ve kept this relatively short because i’m honestly just exhausted and i don’t like to talk about mikael , klaus’ step-father , all that much on this blog. so, triggers to be mindful of is just abuse, although i brush upon it and give only one example, as you will see. much love ❤️

klaus mikaelson is most prominently known for his sadistic and cruel behavior, most notably as an immortal hybrid. however, as a child / in his human years, he was anything but. in his human years ( 980’s AD — 1001/1002 AD ), he was known to be reckless and impulsive ( THIS WAS ALSO LATER HEIGHTENED WHEN TURNED ), though he maintained a close relationship with most of his siblings. klaus was also described as a boy   ❛  who loved art and music  ❜  , dabbling in the arts since he was a child. however, he was still berated by mikael constantly, even when he was much older. mikael’s justification for his abuses was to ❛  toughen him up  ❜, due to him seeing klaus as a liability to the family. his abuses were sometimes unprompted—— an example when mikael caught him with his hunting knife, creating chess pieces out of wood, and you can only imagine the consequence.

mikael’s abuse was long endured, i could be talking about it for a long time, but for post length reasons i’ve ended it here. however, mikael’s abuse left a permanent mark on every sibling. klaus’ anger was especially heightened during his turning. we can only assume that this anger was protection against the fear of being alone, as he / other people closest to him have mentioned before, or being just like his father with his own daughter.

THE FEAR OF BECOMING LIKE YOUR ABUSIVE CAREGIVER IS ALWAYS A TELL-TALE SIGN.

Fireworks are overstimulating for Kol. He never goes to see them and the family won't light them if he's around. They live far enough away from neighbors that hearing them isn't an issue. If he was ever around them, he'd put on his noise cancelling headphones.

I'm unsure to answer how often he drops. There's not a specific amount. He does it regularly, at least once a week.

The usual signs that he's dropping is he gets very cranky, unable to describe why he's getting upset and speaks younger, kind of slurring his speech as a toddler would. He's also usually clingy and wants either Hayley, Elijah or Klaus. He'll usually start sucking his thumb or chewing on certain things. Once he settles, he's very playful and climbing all over everyone.

Oh! I love this question so much.

I feel it's a tie between Klaus and Damon. Canonically, Klaus is overprotective and overbearing when it comes to his family. He would stop at nothing to keep them safe. Naturally, that'd flow over into having a Little. He keeps those he loves close as possible, to the point that it can be a little suffocating. Klaus just wants to keep his Littles safe and sound, in a way that no one ever did for him. Just try to get in his way.

Damon is a very close second. Despite all he and Stefan have been through, it's always very much been "he's my brother, I'll handle him, you can't touch him!" And as the show went on, he proved that he would do anything to protect his baby brother. There is absolutely no way he'd let anyone else be Stefan's caregiver. And knowing how vulnerable Stefan is, he would scorch the earth if anyone hurt that little one. If someone so much as looked at Stefan the wrong way, he'd rip out their heart.

That being said, I definitely have "a type" when it comes to this dynamics. All of the characters I headcanon as caregivers are overprotective in their own right. It's just not to the extent of these two.
