Notes.

The Garcia Lorca quote comes from a longer trippy poem, Casida de las Palomas Obscuras (Song of the Dark Doves) where the roots of this poem started, only to head off in a different direction by line 2. Inspiration can be a surreal beast, I suppose.

Hay una película maravillosa de Abbas Kiarostami que descubrí hace unos meses y ahora veo como eso que busco [en mi obra]. Dura 54 segundos. Hay un sartén, hay una voz de mujer que llama por teléfono, hay la mantequilla quemada y dos huevos con las yemas corriéndose. La voz dice aló, aló, ¿estas ahí? y no le contestan, deja salir un suspiro, luego dice escucha, estoy aquí, no me voy a mover, adiós, llámame, y engancha. Y el sartén sale de encuadre y solo queda la hornilla prendida a fuego vivo.

Hace poco leí algo de Tarkovsky en que decía que el poeta no busca su sujeto, sino que crece dentro como una fruta, y eso me gustó. Hace poco leí también un poema de Lorca llamado “El poeta habla por teléfono con el amor” y el título me gustó tanto que lo tomé como una señal. La verdad es que siento un profundo asombro por la poesía más tardía de Lorca, por los sonetos del amor oscuro, por las casidas y gacelas. Son poemas asombrosos, sí, desde el sentido técnico despliegan a un Lorca en dominio total de su poesía, pero lo que se quedaba en mí es la forma en que concibe al amor como una puesta de oposiciones, como un yo quiero o no quiero. Me fascinó además que el título fuera una síntesis de la manera en que fotografío: yo, que voy por ahí con la cámara de mi teléfono haciendo fotos de lo que me asombra, tratando de no armar mucho revuelo. Años me ha tomado, pero Lorca me guía como la luna o un ángel travieso y poco a poco encuentro qué decir.
