Aaron leaves the room and you stay seated with the rest of the team, picking at your food. It's not the best you've had but it'll do. Finally, after enough time has passed, you wipe your hands from the grease and stand up, letting the team know you'll be back in a minute.

You find Aaron outside near the side of the precinct, hands in his pockets. He doesn't notice you immediately, lost in thought, and you take that moment to admire him, the low light of the streetlamp casting a shadow across his face and sharpening his already gorgeous features.

"Hey," you whisper, taking a step toward him and taking his hand in yours. "What are you thinking about?"

"The missing kids," he replies, matter-of-factly. "I just... wish there was a way to help them now. I can't stand waiting around for something to happen."

You hum in agreement, pulling him in for a hug. He wraps his arms around you immediately, sighing as he rests his head against yours. "We'll find them."

"How can you be so sure?"

Pulling back, you cup his face in your hands and look into his beautiful vulnerable eyes. "Because you're on this case, Aaron. And I know you're doing your best; we all are."

"It's not enough. I'm not enough."

You press your lips against his and his body relaxes. "You are, sweetheart. Don't beat yourself up over things you can't control."

"Yeah," he sighs, pressing his forehead against yours and running his hands up and down your back comfortingly. "How are you holding up?"

"About the same as you."

A small smile flickers across his lips. "And you're telling me not to beat myself up over this case?"

You shrug, holding him tighter. "Should take my own advice, hm?"

The two of you stay like that for almost a full minute before he pulls away, clearly not wanting to. "We should get back before the team gets suspicious."

"We should."

Aaron looks into your eyes and sighs. "I wish we could always be like this."

"Me too," you smile, pressing a kiss to his cheek. "How 'bout I stay at yours for a few days when we get back home? To make up for lost time."

"I'd like that."

"Yeah?"

"Yeah," he grins and kisses you with so much love it takes your breath away, before walking off toward the entrance of the precinct. "See you later, Agent."

You huff out a laugh, shaking your head. "See ya."

This time the cooper's work didn't end with the making of the cask - we brought him into our distillery to work alongside us distilling the spirit and filling the cask.

The result is a truly extraordinary whisky that is limited to just 40 bottles with an A.B.V. of 50.5%
