Hey everyone! This may seem a lot, but my university’s athletic bands (aka marching band) is raising money for completely new uniforms. Our numbers keep growing exponentially which plays into us needing new uniforms. 

It is a lot that we are trying to raise, but any little bit helps.

Breaking New Ground/Modularities

Bruce Blanchette at Christine Price Gallery at Castleton University through May 13, 2017. Bruce Blanchette explores manufactured, recycled or reinvented media which has been appropriated in the form of modular reliefs. Blanchette’s methods incorporate different techniques and approaches among which the final result has been determined by a process, his tools, intuition and a developing idea. Some works may resemble paintings, yet the process of modeling their surfaces with common wallboard compound, or combining sand, organic peat, cardboard, wooden shapes, carved insulation foam, or sawed and sanded shapes, all come from his preference for assemblage and experimentation. The Final Cut

Castleton Downtown Gallery in Rutland will host an Artist Reception for Pam Brown on Friday, April 7, 6-8PM. Pam Brown uses synthetic polymer clays, recycled sheet metal, copper, rubber and fabric to model anatomical shapes that incorporate and replicate a variety of figurative, organic and animal forms. “Within a sculptural context my concerns and ideas relate to beauty, order, delicacy, ferocity and resiliency in the natural world,” said Brown. “In painstaking detail, I use pattern and ornamentation to emphasize the extremes in nature and to characterize the dichotomies of the organic and the manufactured, objecthood and allusion, abstraction and representation.” MORE

Clark Derbes at Christine Price Gallery in Rutland through 2/17/17. The exhibition features locally-felled tree stumps that the artist, using a chainsaw, has transformed into complex polygonal sculptures. Drawing on a variety of inspirations, such as early American folk art, quilts, and modernist architecture, Derbes masterfully plays with perspective, volume, and space to achieve a deft trompe l’œil, which subverts viewers’ expectations and perceptions.
