But I’ll do you one even worse, and it’s an idea I’ve played around with for my YW and Cayde:

Cayde was planning on proposing to the Young Wolf after their mission together, but he dies in the Prison of Elders before he gets the chance.

Like, this man had EVERYTHING planned out, something the YW finds out when they go through his stuff after his death.

They find the ring, and the journals, and all the notes and recordings he had detailing all the possible ways this proposal was going to go. He even had a reservation at his favorite ramen shop ready to go. That’s where he was planning on proposing to you at.

“Looks like we’re all done and dusted here kiddos. Ramen’s on me!”

Suddenly that line carries a lot more weight than it did before….

Now you’re playing one of the recordings you find in his stash and you can hear the way he talks to Colonel in the background:

“I dunno Colonel, too cheesy? Am Iayin’ it on too thick?”

[soft clucking in the background]

“Yeahhhh, too cheesy. ALRIGHT, new plan. I’m gonna get this right-”

Sundance features in quite a few of them:

“THAT’S the ring you’re gettin’ them?”

“Hey, it’s sleek! Classy-!”

“-has a little bow on it?”

“…for your information, I thought the bow was cute.”

“Geez, you’re hopeless. Here, how ‘bout this one-”

And finally, you find this one recording, and it’s Cayde just…talking to you. Talking about all the things he would say to you if he could just stop getting stuck in his own head and say what he means.

“I…I know you’re probably never gonna hear this, at least not until I finally get my foot out of my mouth and work up the nerve to tell ya, but, until then…man alive…

“I…I love you so much, Guardian. So…so damn much.

“And I know I sound like a huge sap in sayin’ this, but there…there really ain’t anythin’ I wouldn’t do for ya. You’re just…incredible. And I just…I really hope this all works out. Traveler knows I haven’t felt this way about someone in…a real long time…

“Well…no, I have, but…she…”

He softly chuckles, albeit a little sadly, to himself.

“Story for another day…”

The recorder clicks as the audio stops, the playback now finished.

And all of this effort. All of this planning. All of this care and pure love.

All of it…is gone in an instant.

And Cayde died without ever truly knowing what your answer to his proposal would have been.

3. What fandoms do you write for? 

Currently not really any because my muse fuckin packed her bags and took a vacation, but Malevolent, Halo, and Destiny are the big ones. I'd like to do more for Warframe and FFXIV, though!

4. What are your top five fics by kudos?

I'm trying to be better about it! A lot of the time, though, I simply don't know what to say and fall into the "how do I respond to birthday wishes" trap because writing "Thanks!" a bunch feels disingenuous even though I am thankful and glad someone liked the fic enough to comment

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? 

Ptttthhhbbbbbbbb, probably the one where Bornstellar finds his family all floodified on the Halo Chakas & Riser got marooned on in Primordium

(I have not reread this fic in ages bc I remember not being super happy with how it was written and don't want to see I published a disaster lol)

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? 

Oh, so many of them. Happy fluffy nonsense is my wheelhouse. If I have to pick one, though, maybe day 7: we fucking did it just because I don't think any other characters have Gone Through It as much as John & Arthur have, so they would get the most joy from a lazy day at the river

Nah

Absolutely not lmao

I do! If we take "craziest" to mean "silliest" probably the Destiny/WTNV crossover thing I flirted with for a while in 2016 (old woman Josie lives in the desert with a house full of taken)

@warlordfelwinter and I were writing a novelized version of a D&D campaign we were in, by which I mean Fel did the bulk of the writing and I filled in the Alexa-specific parts!

Bornstellar/Splendid Dust! My boys! My beloveds! I'm pspsps-ing people into this sandbox with me because right now there are 4 fics for them on AO3 and they're all mine

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? 

Any of them 😭

16. What are your writing strengths? 

Dumb shit. But I like to think I'm also good at writing weird stuff (I also just have a lot of fun writing weird stuff, like Fundament and the Dark World)

17. What are your writing weaknesses? 

Plots.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? 

I wouldn't dare unless I was fluent, which will basically never happen...

19. First fandom you wrote for? 

Transformers, baybee! I think at this point I've lost all of my TF fic from my ff.net days due to time and computer moves, which is a real shame, because I wrote a TF/ST crossover centered on tribbles once that I remember being one of the best things I've ever written... Maybe if I'm lucky it's on one of my old external drives and I can reupload it... 🤔

20. Favorite fic you’ve written?

The hardest question in the world... hmm... maybe wait through the night for the dawn light to break just because it's the longest thing I've done and the MalevBB experience was so fun... but I also really like Siren's Eye bc Fundament and Osmium sibs and my funky little sea-runners, and I also really like Corpus Siege just bc it was so fun to write, and I also like— [is dragged off stage by a comically large shepherd's hook]

Changing Our Destiny: Cayde-6 Birthday Special 2 ♠

Summary:

Even in dire times, with the Pyramids looming within the Solar System, people still manage to enjoy each others company. And Rae, Cayde, and their Ghosts are no exception.

(Sorry this is a little late. Shout out to @aislinavalbane​ for the idea of making September 5th Cayde’s birthday! I hope you enjoy!!)

The sides of the Tower were painted gold as the September sun began to set. Despite the tension in the air brought by the arrival of the Pyramids, it was still business as usual in the Tower. Guardians buying upgrades from Banshee, the distant yells of Shaxx and Saint commentating on Crucible and Trials matches, the odd Guardian grumbling over what they got off Rahool; things seemed relatively normal. Rae leaned against the railing of the catwalk that looked over the courtyard. As the Fireteam Vanguard and one of the most well-known Guardians within the Tower, she almost constantly faced with questions from nervous Kinderguardians and long-term Guardians alike about the Pyramids. Questions she didn’t have the answers to but wished she did.

 An exhausted groan shook the Warlock from her thoughts as a certain blue Exo flopped onto the railing beside her. “Got buried in paperwork?” Rae asked with a knowing smile.

“I swear, Big Blue is tryin’ to kill me.” Cayde groaned.

“And you didn’t finish it, did you?”

“Colonel is covering for me.”

“I’m sure Zavala will never tell by the 3-toed footprints and the smell of birdseed.” Rae chuckled as she handed him a Spicy Ramen box, “Heads up. Happy Resday.”

“Huh…is it today?” Cayde asked, accepting the box, “Must’ve forgotten with all the chaos goin’ on.”

“Well, lucky for you, you got a lady to remind you!” Sundance chirped, flitting around Cayde. “Yeah, unlike a certain Ghost who forgot to mention that I had a Consensus meeting this morning.” Cayde replied after swallowing a mouthful of noodles. “It wasn’t my fault! Ophiuchus was supposed to remind me, but he didn’t!” Sundance bobbed angrily. “Actually, he did.” Ghost corrected, appearing beside her, “He told me that he sent you a message and you simply replied ‘Kay’ and went back to sleep.”

“Oh…” Sundance sank a bit upon remembering that she did, in fact, receive a message from Ikora’s Ghost that morning but was half-asleep upon receiving it. Cayde just chuckled as he booped Sundance on the top of her shell. Rae giggled at the scene before speaking up, “By the way, I got you something.”

“Aww, you didn’t have to, Sunrae.” Cayde replied. “I know, but I wanted to.” Rae smiled as Ghost transmatted a small box into Rae’s hand before the Warlock handed it to Cayde. The box was white with a blue lid and a black ribbon tied around it. Cayde removed the ribbon and opened the box which revealed a small keychain. It was a silver chain with a pendant hanging from it. The pendant was a blue spade with the Hunter symbol in silver in the middle and a plum dragon curled around it with the Warlock symbol in gold under the eye. 

“Holy- Rae, this is great!” Cayde picked up the keychain, letting the pendant dangle for a bit, “Where’d you get this?”

“I may have gotten Banshee to help me with it. I’m no good when it comes to these things.” Rae scratched her neck sheepishly. Cayde glanced down at Banshee’s stall, who looked up at the two and gave a thumbs up before going back to the gun he was working on. “Thanks, Sunrae.” Cayde wrapped an arm around Rae’s shoulder and placed a kiss on her temple. “Oh, that reminds me!” Rae perked up, “I got something for you too, Sundance!”

“Wait, really?” Sundance’s eye seemed to brighten as she zipped around Rae, “Lemme see, lemme see!”

“Okay, okay! But come over here so Cayde doesn’t see.” Rae laughed as she turned her back to Cayde. “What are you up to?” Cayde asked, suspicious. “No peeking!” Rae called over her shoulder as Sundance gasped before letting out an excited giggle. Rae seemed to fiddle around with something before chiming, “And done! I had Everis help me make this one.” Rae turned around to reveal Sundance floating proudly in her hands. Except her shell was replaced with a blue, white and navy shell with a familiarly shaped horn on the top. 

“Hey, there’s the Guardian I was lookin’ for!” Sundance said in her best Cayde impression. Cayde burst out laughing, temporarily drawing the attention of nearby Guardians, as Sundance continued, “Zavala, this IS my serious face! Can’t you tell? Rae, take me with you! I hate this job!” Rae couldn’t help but laugh at the scene before her: Cayde in a fit of laughter while Sundance zipped around him saying random lines in a Cayde impression.

 “What did I just walk into?”

Rae peered past Cayde to see Ikora approaching them. “Hi, Ikora.” Rae waved as Cayde, still chuckling a bit, gave her a weak wave, “Oh hey, Ikora!”

“Ikora, if you tell me this is a practical joke…well, it kills me to say it, but I’d be really impressed!” Sundance popped up again, still doing a Cayde impression. “No, stop, please!” Cayde started laughing again, “Mercy, Sundance, mercy!”

“I gave Cayde and Sundance a present for Cayde’s Resday and Sundance has really gotten into the shell Everis and I made her.” Rae explained. “I can see that.” Ikora gave a small smile before turning to Cayde, who finally recovered from his laughing fit, “I came here because Zavala was curious as to why some of the reports were incomplete…and smelled of bird feed…and were covered in chicken-prints.”

“Uh, gotta go!” Cayde grabbed Sundance and took off running towards the bazaar. “Even in these dire times…” Ikora began. “Some things never change.” Rae finished, “It’s a good thing though, if you think about it. It’s better to keep in good spirits rather than being pessimistic. Remember the day Rasputin shot down the Almighty?”

“Everyone was tense while Cayde had set up a beach chair and had a bowl of Spicy Ramen, a glass of Ab~Synth and a pair of shades.” Ikora chuckled at the memory.

“And Blaze and Marcia joined him!” Rae laughed.

“Weren’t they placing bets on whether Rasputin would shoot it down or not?”

“I think-”

Rae was cut off as she spotted Zavala dragging Cayde by the cloak back towards the hanger, the latter having his arms crossed as Colonel was nestled in his lap, enjoying the ride.

“Some things never change.” Ikora chuckled, quoting Rae as she walked back to the Bazaar while Rae let out a small laugh before following Zavala and Cayde back to the Hanger to help the Hunter Vanguard with the endless mountain of reports he was fated to face.

28 is go. 2 years from 3-0 😐 I still don’t know what to think about that lol

I’m currently quarantining with my mom who also has covid. Thankfully we both got the less deadly strain it’s just really contagious.
