Finding the First Gay Kiss - Diary of a Big Ole Gay: 12/9/22
Hey whores sorry its been a minute I've been feeling enniu and spending money to fill my holes.
Tumblr media
(this popped up when I typed in "any hole is a goal" so take from that what you will.)
I have also been watching gay shit so lets see where we left off.
Tumblr media
(*checks notes*)
fuck its vingarne???? thats like so fucking long ago. ok well buckle in whores I'm gonna write as much as I can in the next half hour and then I have to get ready for a twitch stream where I you guessed it, watch more gay films, (twitch is just my username btw).
Tumblr media
Coney Island (1917) dir by Roscoe Fatty Arbunkle
So this is one of the more transphobic films so far and honestly not the vibe. If you are like me and you keep looking up pictures of Fatty Arbunkle in drag for "research" then you will have seen him in a bathing outfit. In fact I saw a clip of this in disclosure and nobody chose to credit fatty arbunkle in this so I could watch.
The actually plot is beyond annoying we have the classic henpecked husband trope, (tbh I find the trope intresting just because its such a different marital dynamic then I'm used to seeing in film), who goes to coney island. Buster Keatons girlfriend just fucking leaves him cause he can't pay for tickets so he sneaks into the fair to do shaninagans. who the fuck cares its buster Keaton I would watch that man do anything.
at some point Fatty wants to go swimming but the clerk is fatphobic to him so the obvious answer to this problem is of course crossdressing. I still absolutely love how this is the solution for everything in these films its refreshing after growing up in the 2000s
also buster keaton does a backflip.
Tumblr media
(FUCK MY BUSSY KING)
oh also some whore named st. john is in this, bitch we don't know her.
The actually cross dressing elements become quickly problamatic. Its like if fatty arbunkle did so wack cocaine and one of his orgys and dream walked into the mind of a 21st century terf before he wrote the script. its a lot of sexual predators, (fatty), invading women's spaces and men being "tricked" by fattys drag persona. and don't get me wrong its not like there isn't other gender shaninagans in these role reversal films but this one is just recognizable transphobic. Like it plays off tropes and narratives I recognize from modern discourse just in the same way that behind the screen was a recognizable "fairy" trope.
Tumblr media
I Don't Want To Be a Man (1918) dir Ernst Lubistch
so this film sucks in the sense that I hate the characters and its super sexist but you do have this character in boy mode absolutely making out with a guy heres a quote from my LB review.
Its at this point we get to the stage of HOW GAY WAS IT! because essentialy what happens is that Occi gets drunk AF and starts making out with a dude.
Now I feel that even though objectively this was some straight shit since she identifies as a women its still siturationally queer, I've been watching a lot of these "Role-Reversal" comedies back to back and there really isn't a concept of passing in these films even in siturations in which a character is very clearly cross dressing, (Mabel's Blunder and the Porter from The ABC of Love) come to mind the characters are unable to distinguish them from there presentation. I also don't think that this suspension of disbelief is set specifically to this era either. Even modern films like ugh... Shes The Man present these cross-dressing as serving masc with the suspicion presented being about performance not presentation.
Side Note: A lot of these types of films absolutely reek with transphobic and homophobic "comedy"
So in the scope of the narrative and genre, I have to assume that Occi presents fully as male in these scenes and that the other characters are interacting with her in boymode. Which to me means that when the guy kisses her, thats gay. Its gay because he was had the absolute attention of kissing a man at the time dispite him not having all the available information.
Also he was like totally surprised when he found out she was a women so like honestly we stan this bisexual disaster right here.
like sure I don't love this film but like her DADDY being bisexual is kinda hawt.
Side note: I'm using the term daddy to refur to this love interest character who is present as moralizing and domineering. Its usually paired with a "wild child" who needs to be taught to settle down and you know be a "respectable women" think Angel and the Bad Man, theres this fucked up conflation of a male love interest as being both sexual desirable and paternal its very fruedian.
Tumblr media
(I couldn't find that scene where Clint Eastwood beats his wife and its presented as totally chill so heres the only picture under "spanking" that isn't literal porn)
Tumblr media
Yankee Doodle in Berlin (1919) dir F. Richard Jones
So yeah this is just a comedy where a guy dresses in drag. Bothwell Browne was a female impersanator from europe and while I don't believe he had very many film gigs he was of a similar celebrity as Julien Eltinge. Eltinge himself starred in a similar propaganda flick whose name escapes me.
These films were playing off of the public interest of vauldeville and female impersanation so its a lot more family friendly drag show then any thing queer and subversive.
Interesting history note but not great otherwise.
Tumblr media
Ander die Als Anderan {Different from the others} (1919) dir. Richard Oswald
ok so I have exactly one minute to finish this blog so I'm just gonna paste the whole ass history of this film from my working script on the subject.
Ok so I was really excited to get to this film but first I need to talk about post world war 1 Germany, yaasssss bitch, its the part of every video that I just accidentally bring up the rise of Fascism, woopsie. But First Homophobia.
This film is heavily concerned with the appeal of section 175 which those who know there gay history immediately recognize. Section or paragraph 175 was a german law that and I’m simplifying here, criminalizes Homosexual Activity. It was based off of medieval anti-sodomy laws and during different parts of Germanys history it has existed in more lenient and draconic measures.
This measure was protested by a variety of people notable the Scientific Humanitarian Committee which was founded in 1897 and the World League for Sexual Reform in 1921 both founded by one Magnus Hirshfield. Hirshfield was a sexologist and while he wasn’t the only person or first person involved in this fight he was very influential. Now once again simplifying but a pet theory that was going around europe at the time was this idea of degeneration. Bitch do I need to explain eugenics to you. Basically Mendel was like hey vetch genetics exist and then fifty years later people were like actually the queers are a social contagion. They were considered degenerate, you know weak stock, like a runt dog or a horse with club foot, the merciful thing would be to take it out behind the woodshed.
So Hirshfield with his queens and eggheads were like um actually Reich und Lander being homosexual isn’t literally a suicide gene meant to destory civilization its actually just a natural variation of humanity. Hirschfield referred to it as being a sexual intermediary or Third Sex, this notion of being between the dicometric poles in nature, Your’ve may have heard the phrase Sexual Invert as well all from the same well you get it.
In 1919 Hirshfield founded the Institite fur sexualwissenkraft, which was a non-profit dedicated to researching queer identity and also provided education and medical resources, for instance being involved with the transition of Danish Painter Lili Elbe. During the same year an austrian director by the name of Richard Osward teamed up with hirshfield to make a Aufklärungsfilm, or sexual enlightment film. Basically an education film about a taboo subject like drugs or the gays.
The film was supposedly very successful but in 1920, the republic established a censorship board and Different from the Others was reduced to only being able to be shown to clergy and doctors for educational purposes. There was however a shortened version included in another documentary called Laws of Love in 1927 that just so happened to make its way to Ukraine. Keep a pin in that.
Unfortunately as we all know in 1933 The Nazis official took power and in may of the same year The German Student Union called “Action against the Un-German Spirit” which called for the destruction of any work that went against nazis ideals, Hirshfield being a Jewish Kinkster was obvioiusly on the list, The German Student Union broke into the Institute fur Sexualwissenkraft and tore down the thousands of books, films and other documents and burned them including of course the full version of Anders als die Anderen. Like that in one day in may, one of the largest resources of queer knowledge was destroyed.
As Tragic as it is luckily the frost didn’t get to all the potatoes. Remember that copy of Laws of Love well luckily historians managed to get ahold of it so the world at least has a glimpse of hirshfields original intention.
Well now that I spent a good what 15 minutes telling you about the cultural baggage this film has I guess I should probably talk about whether or not the gay kiss happens.
Well yes and know most of the film is concerned about how kinda fucked up how Section 175 is and while the movies straight up is like Hello I’m a homosexual can I have some rights please. Its actually pretty light on the pda. Its definitely queer Hirshfield wanted to “Usualize” Queer experience so we have people cruising in a ballroom and so forth but the closest we get to a gay kiss is through implication, where we have to young school boys lean in and then a fade to black. Like we definitely know what was going on but we don’t get to see it.
anyway whores stay tuned for more update articles because this is the one way we are keeping the now 120 films straight in my mind. Also if I watch any queer short films that arn't on the list then I'll add them to it I decided.

like listen LISTEN writing a creepypasta story is way more easier than writing a character. think it's because of the 'rules' the fandom has created for no reason.. aka limiting creativity.
"you can't name your character x the killer it's cringe! you can't make your character x's kid it's cringe! you can't make your character wear a hoodie it's cringe!" etc.
I had this friend of mine who has written a crp character who she shipped with Liu and she was harassed out of it, they forced her to recreate her character to hate Liu. lmao what man :(
specially because crp fandom was filled with kids back then and still is. a fandom's like the spark that makes people try to create art and by limiting the works in it that just kinda.. ruins it. let us have fun with our "cliche" ocs. :(
took me a long time to make peace with myself and my s/i who I ship with Zalgo tbh. now I'm making it everyone's problem. anyway if I get more ranty we get into shipcourse and censoreship and I don't want that here lol
YEAH SERIOUSLY like i love this fandom i really do it has been a part of my life since i was 9 and yeah it definitely wasn't the best place for me to be at that age and i definitely had some bad experiences here but i don't think i'll ever grow out of it really. but the weird rules i've seen around the place is just so. tedious. you shouldn't be trying to limit the creativity of another person just because you think what they're trying to create is 'cringe'.
moral of the story here if u want to make an oc named macy the killer or eyeless jamie then go ahead. if u want to make ur oc the kid of zalgo or slender then go ahead. if u want to make ur oc be siblings w jeff nd liu or ben or toby or nina or literally anyone then go ahead. if u want to make an oc for the sole purpose of shipping them w jane or helen or anyone else then go ahead!! don't let people stop u from creating what u want to create. you aren't making it for them, you're making it for yourself. ship your ocs w your faves!! go crazy!! have fun!! create!! that's the whole point!! it doesn't have to be 'good' or original!! you just gotta have fun!!

Something about a discord server and NOT staying quiet about injustices
Okay! So, I don’t usually do this, but I think justice must be done and voices must rise because that’s exactly what these people don’t want.  I’m at this one Animal Crossing server where things seem nice... but they are not. The place is a hell hole where mods seem to only be interested about themselves instead the greater good (unlike how a mod should act).
They have gone as far as making subtle threats to members, dismissing opinions, censoring them for speaking their mind, between more, between these, but not limited to: ☆ Missuse of power.  ☆ Favouritism. ☆ Sexism/Misandry (+transphobia). ☆ Cultural appropriation. ☆ Animal abuse for “lols sake”. ☆ Discrimination (to disabled people and foreigners). ☆ Threats go as far as to DM’s. And I must remark on ☆ Censoreship of different people’s opinion. And there had been other issues such as allowing underage NSFW to be posted on general chat because “it was a default gif” (clearly, it made people uncomfortable), dismissing people going through hardships, etc, etc. they are a gift that just keeps giving.
I’m not the only one who is fed up with this behaviour, but I see no need to speak more about this when I can simply show it.  I present you, Lottie’s Lair.
(Note: I asked for consent of the users involved (except mods for obvious reasons) to upload the following screenshots. User names besides the mods’ have been censored to keep their privacity. Please, be mindful that I cannot share all the pictures as many incriminatory comments have been erased).
Images under the cut
For starters, here’s a picture where one of the mods that goes by the username “Duck”, was mishandling a hamster.  As former hamster ownler myself, I can easily said that these little animals are fragile, they are not toys to play with and they can experiment anxiety by being held and squeezed like this.
Tumblr media
Moving forwards, I’d like to adress a issue with being fast to draw conclusions before moving to the censoreship and the issue with hadicapped people as they are tied.
Tumblr media
They were quick to draw conclusions that this person (I know them irl, mind you) was sexist, xenophobic, ableist and a number of other things but how can one be xenophobic of Mexican culture when they’re mexican themselves? Not to mention they’ve got a sis they love p much. And you know what caused this whole thing? That this person was trying to defend THEIR OWN CULTURE and their handicapped fellows (they have a disability themselves), but mods reacted the bad way (claiming they were mean although no one else thought that) and basically called him stupid for saying their information sources were wrong (the mod’s  information sources in question? THEY WERE MOVIES AND SOAP OPERAS, when, as a mexican myself, WE know that info they were so claiming to be real was wrong) not to mention they claimed to “know better” over these 3rd-source articles and because “they knew a lot about Mexico” because they went to vacations there (in middle of a pandemy when we, EVERYONE, no matter the place of the world, is already struggling as it is). Look, there is nothing wrong with being wrong, the problem arises when you won’t hear what the others have got to say.
And guess what?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They claim to be all rightful and doing the best, that the warning was because this person was being unthoughtful about the subject, but yet again, they make other disabled people feel dismissed whilst portraying themselves as angels.
It was only matter of time before people got tired.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But of course, it got deleted- Luckily, the message wasn’t left unheard.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But it was censored yet again (check the hour at the task bar if you’d like to). (Note: the people who took place in these convos, most of them have already been banned). Look, this is NOT about a grudge nor anything, I hardly gave any interaction there myself, but I wholeheartedly believe that if there’s something wrong, we SHOULDN’T stay quiet about it! I can continue talking about the things I’ve seen there, but, honestly? I’m already tired. Please take this as my contribution because, no matter the scale, no injustice shall be glimpsed over as if it was nothing.
Mods have made an hostile environment and just as they have done this with a discord server, nothing stops them from imposing themselves into others in real life.  I’m not saying there should be a raid, not anything of the likes (I won’t stop you if that’s your will, tho), just: don’t keep quiet, please. I know there are probably many other servers out there who have done such things, so, please, don’t keep quiet, spread your word and let others know.   And if you know any way a server could be reported, please, let me know.
And, if you could reblog this, that would make many happy. There were people who gave me their opinion too but feared to be banned so they asked me to leave their screenshots out, but they want their core opinions to be heard as well.

Finding the First Gay Kiss - Diary of a Big Ole Gay - 3/6/23
Hey Whores, How you been can't remember the last time we talked. Totally not staring into the abyss of fear and shitting myself. Hiiiiii.
Tumblr media
(yeah I'm just trying my best right now and or going insane)
so I'm trying my best to get some hours this month so that I can in fact pay my bills and its been stressful. But it turns out that when I'm stressed I watch a lot of movies so heres what's been going on.
Tumblr media
Victim (1961) dir. Basil Dearden
A spirtual sucessor to Anders die als Andern this is 2 hours of a crime thriller that just so happens to be about gay people. This film is part of British New Wave which tends to be very focused on british margenilized groups and Dearden manages to be surprisingly sympathetic for the time period. Sure this film features tortured gays who don't even get to fuck a twink but this is a lot better representation then most of the queer rep during the period.
Its important to recognize the effects that censoreship had on the time period. I still have to do some research on british censorship because it is different from american censorship but suffice to say, gays weren't meant to be depicted in a wholesome way so the Tortured Gay Trope stems from that influence. Gays who wanted to stick there dick in some pussy and be "fixed" was the story people could tell with gay people so it was the story they told.
Tumblr media
Lust for a Vampire (1971) dir. Jimmy Sangster
The second in the Karnstein Trilogy (yes I watched all three), this one is only slightly lesbian. We have nubile women walking around with there titties out, we have pretty vampire lady being a little interested in the ladies and then .... she fucks a dude.
Yeah they no homoed this lesbian vampire. This is the last in the series that has any lesbian undertones as Twins of Evil is a lot more like a classic folk horror then a lesbian vampire story. There all alright films but I was also very sad when I watched them.
Tumblr media
The Vampire Lovers (1970) dir. Roy Ward Baker
Oh Carmilla!
This film is the most faithful to the Carmilla canon. Its a movie where Baker told the Censor board. But Hays Prude's!!!!!! this is based on a classic gothic story, the Lesbanism is like so important to the plot and she has to have her titties out to its like symbolism you know and one they like play with each others tits thats like super hot... I mean like double symbolism. We're respecting the source material.
Yeah this is a movie that centers lesbians for the male gaze and who doesn't like tittys but theres also some aspects that are just gross. Apparently the young coquette was told that her nude scenes would only be for the "Japanese Audience" and the Carmilla Actor encouraged her to go nude despite her misgivings. So its giving double predatory lesbian vibes.
I will say that this is very faithful to the plot despite the fan service and they make a point of making these vampires follow the original rules of the Le Fanu story.
Tumblr media
Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1958) dir. Richard Brooks
Fuck I forgot how hot the two leads were. Fun Fact: This film was in color because the director wanted to show off how pretty the actors eyes were which is absolutely a good reason.
This is another Tenessee Williams play which I feel like I have a relevant quote here somewhere.
Yeah, so as we know local asshole, Will Hays, was like wah wah theres to many coke orgies in my movies about white supremacy myths, think about the children just not the ones in the mines. (yes I understand that it was a multi-person thing and this stamp licker was just the figure head I too have read Hollywood Babylon now shush), so everyone got together to write a wet blanket code to censor shit and some of that shit was THE GAYS. Thats not to say that that inherenetly stopped queer films from happening, (through the gayest Code Film I have is Slyvia Scarlet after that we mostly have a lot of queer subtext and foreign films like Clud de Femmes or the Orphic Trilogy), but as we get into the 50s and 60s the main we began to see films be more about the stigma of gayness. Theres a few different films that act out the pansy scare, (Tea & Sympathy, The Childrens Hour), were people are accused of being little homos, and these types of sexual repression films were if were lucky its something like Victim (1961) or Detective (1968) were these homos are actually gay they just hate themselves, (remember that the Hays Code was like you can have shit they just have to be villanized or shown that its a tormented lifestyle: See the Queer-Coded Villian), and at worse its just implied that this is the reason this person was sad and killed themselves.
T-Billy plays actually work well on this front which is probably one of the reasons why so many got made during this time frame. The Hays Prudes were loosening the iron grip on queer depictions and T-Billy's Ouvre was already playing with like the specter of queer subtext so it was a match made in some prudes queer-erasasing heaven. I think that its also a testiment to the power of how gay Tenessee Williams is, that when you literally do a hachet job and try to rip out the queerness of his films. The queerness is just felt that more strongly. He was a master of somehow writting negative queer representation. Storys were the missing person in the room is on everyones mind.
wow honestly I have been popping off with my reviews lately.
So put it simply this movie has a lot of queer subtext but they also take out all of the parts of the original play that was actually super gay. Its still an amazing film but it misses points in the queer catergory due to censoreship.
Tumblr media
A Taste of Honey (1961) dir. Tony Richardson
so lets talk about british new wave. basically it was a lot of arthouse nonsense adapting plays about disenfranchise poor brits. This film is about a bunch of british people "That just didn't exist". Namely people like single mothers, interraccial couples and a singuler gay.
I've been writing out full reviews for the last couple films and I'm just been very mentally drained lately. so if you want a bigger description check out my Letterboxd.
This films gay rep is absolutely shitty. This man doesn't even call himself gay his gal pal just insinuates it. he doesn't have a boyfriend hes literally just this artsy domestic sort and it is very lazy rep in terms of writing. Don't get me wrong as a film this disserves the accolades it has but it doesn't get points in the queer films category.
It might explain why I've had a hard time with these films as of late. The 1960s are kinda the low point of the queer movie watchlist as we arn't dealing with the sexy queer subtext, (rebecca is iconic we stan) and we arn't dealing with the bright aggresiveness of New Queer Wave so this decade is like the Queer Truama Porn of Early Queer Cinema (yeah thats what I'm calling it now)
Tumblr media
Everything Else I Watched Recently
The Great Train Robbery (1903), The Broken Butterfly (1919), Thelma and Louise (1991), The Blood on Satan's Claw (1971), The Toll of the Sea (1922). Antonio da Silva short films.
Also been watching a lot of television lately
Junji Ito Maniac - Trash
Cunk on Earth - Iconic
28 Days Haunted - absolute trash and iconic.
I'm gonna try to finish watching the staircase at some point this week and I will try to keep up with my gay movie watching i've just kinda burned out on life right now.

Moving from YouTube to Vlare.TV
Some people may be aware of COPPA shenanigans and how it will affect YouTube community. And don't forget YT's shitty algorithm which also affects on videos' views etc etc.
And due to that I'm moving from YT to Vlare.TV mostly because I may post in a future something that can't be considered a child-free video (and unfortunately I still couldn't find on how to set my already existing videos' settings to non-child-free ones).

Global social media: case study China
China has the world’s most operational social media population, with 91 percent of respondents saying they visited a social media site in the previous six months, compared with 30 percent in Japan, 67 percent in the United States, and 70 percent in South Korea (McKinsey & Company, 2017).China is among the most profoundly connected population on earth, and the smartphone revolution has seen this connectivity grow fast in recent years, more than in many Western countries(BJUI, 2017). China boasts the most Internet users in the world but blocks Facebook and Twitter, the most popular social networks. That’s encouraged domestic copycat networks from emerging and dominating the Chinese market. Sina Weibo and Renren are thriving equivalent social media sites  used by  millions of Chinese daily (The Daily Dot, 2017)
Tumblr media
The Great Firewall of China is a very technically sophisticated internet censorship system and is in action all over the country.
China has one of the highest number of web users in the world. China also has one of the most controlled internets, with processes engaged in making certain that its citizens cannot read about sensitive issues nor themselves post material the government believes to be threatening.
(openDemocracy, 2017)The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
are the responsible body for filtering and censorship of online information. The number of internet users in China is extraordinary, and there is only so much that they can do to contain ‘challenging’ internet content.  It also means that more Chinese citizens will gain the technical ability to find a means to bypass filtering methods (openDemocracy, 2017).
The link below provides a tool to see if a domain name is censored in china and allows you to view the domain via a Chinese proxy server.
http://www.greatfirewallofchina.org
Tumblr media
Chinese Internet users are actively engaging in social media—especially home-grown social media platforms. Domestic social media platforms differ in various ways from Western platforms.Companies should learn how Chinese consumers use social media and take advantage of the platforms to manage consumer research and introduce new products (BJUI, 2017).
Social media has become deeply integrated into people’s lives and some have more friends online than off.As China’s population moves online, consumer behavior shifts. Numerous companies have failed to recognize the shifts in their marketing strategies. Social media has grown to become the shared commons where Chinese consumers offer opinions, ask for advice, and discuss brands. Ignoring the Internet could be considered a lost opportunity in the past, but in China today, ignoring social media is a business risk (Thomas Crampton, 2017).
