Chapter 6
_________
A Lab Rats/Mighty Med/Elite Force x Star Wars: The Clone Wars crossover.
Synopsis: The first time they met was a complete accident. The second time might have been the will of the Force. But there’s no use in pretending the third time was anything less than on purpose. And there’s no reason to ever be so far apart again that they have to plan a fourth.
Story Warnings: violence, character deaths
_____________________
She knows when they’ll meet again.
He doesn’t, but she does.
She thought about texting him, giving him the heads up on the project Donald Davenport was working on. An elite force is what he calls it. And she supposes there’s the potential for that to be true.
But they had last parted their ways in sadness, grief, though she never meant for it to rise up as a wall between them.
Why does she even care so kriffing much?
She finds herself going over what she’s going to say to him, when they meet again this afternoon. If she’s going to pull him aside and ask did I ever tell you about my visions even though she knows she didn’t. But she needs to, because of all the parts that have already come true and what that means for the rest. And that maybe she’s beginning to suspect the Force is intersecting their paths so darkly for a reason…
But she won’t. She’s weary, worn down. She wants to go back for a moment and be those two kids that survived the trandoshans, that may have been jaded but had not yet lost their spirit.
She wants to be normal, two normal eighteen-year-olds, even if they have to deal with this investigation in the background.
She needs time to heal, even if she’s still burdened with her duty.

“We’ll get picked off a lot sooner if we rush into this thing unprepared!” Chase counters. “Look, I want to find them too, but we have to be smart about this.”
“Skylar?” Kaz asks, trying to find support for his position.
“We’re gonna get them, it’s just going to take some time.”
“Ahsoka?”
She’s glances briefly at Chase. “We need to be careful we don’t overestimate our abilities. Rushing into this, it won’t turn out the way you expect.”
“Oliver?”
His friend looks down.
“Oh c’mon man. You know how important this is!”
“I know, it’s just…” Oliver sighs. “I think we should play it safe.”
“Safe? None of us are safe with those two on the loose!”
“And your panic will ultimately only give them an advantage,” interjects Ahsoka, walking closer and stopping just by Chase’s shoulder. “Some us have been hunted before. And you can’t turn the hunter into the prey without a careful strategy.”
“And the longer we strategize, the more superheroes are going to die.” Kaz throws up his hands. “You know, I didn’t think being apart of an ‘elite force’ would mean sitting around and doing nothing!”

“Skylar’s snoring keep you up too?” Bree asks from the counter as Ahsoka climbs down the stairs.
She nods affirmatively. “I tried meditating to block it out but,” she shrugs, “no luck.”
“Yeah, that’s definitely going to take some getting used to.  You’d think with how big the suites are you wouldn’t even notice you had roommates.”
“Maybe there’s some way we could soundproof her room?”
“My capsule is already soundproof. Trust me, it doesn’t help.”
They both turn as they hear another’s footsteps on the stairs. Donald Davenport appears. He frowns. “What are two doing still up?”
Bree shrugs. “Guess I’m just not used to sleeping in a new place.”
“Skylar snores.” Ahsoka clarifies.
“Yeah, that too.”
“But your capsule is soundproof,” Davenport points out, confused.
“I know.”
“We were just discussing it.”
“Mr. Davenport!” someone yells, and Oliver comes running down the stairs. “I can’t find Kaz. I thought I heard him snoring but it turned out to be Skylar from down the hall.”
Ahsoka frowns, “He probably went to find those guys on his own.”
Bree sighs. “I’ll use my superspeed to bring him back.”
“Alright,” her father concedes. “But if you’re not back in two minutes I’m gonna have them track you on your GPS locator.”
____________________
She senses them as he turns his head to look above them.
“Uh…guys” Chase warns as the swarm begins to build momentum.
It’s too late.
It descends with such a force that they’re all thrown from their feet. She feels herself collide with something and then the ground, pain ricocheting through her head. She feels something liquid begin to trickle down her montral, and the world blurs to black.
____________________
He groans, brings one hand to his throbbing head. He rolls over to his side, looking over at his companions.
“Is everyone alright?” he asks.
“I think so,” he hears Kaz respond.
He looks over to his left as he hears Ahsoka groan. There’s blood on the ground.
He scrambles to his feet and rushes to her side. There’s a gauge on the side of her montral. He stays by her side as she sits up.
“Guys, where’s Skylar?” Bree asks, her voice subtly alarmed.
The rest of them search quickly, to no avail.
“They took her,” Oliver realizes, and that grim pronouncement settles over all of them.
___________________
He disappears from her side once to grab a first aid kit. She doesn’t protest as he begins to work quickly, cleaning the wound.
“I can’t believe you let them take Skylar! Just because you couldn’t work together as a team!” Davenport lectures.
“It wasn’t my fault,” Chase protests, barely turning to acknowledge his parent. She feels a sting as he sews two quick sutures to close the cut.
“Kaz was the one who took off on his own,” Bree interjects.
“It doesn’t matter,” Davenport responds. “You’re their leader. It’s your responsibility to look out for them.”
She feels how those words wound him, and she opens her mouth to defend him.
She’s surprised when Kaz beats her to it. “No, no Chase is right. I let my emotions get the best of me.” He turns to Chase, swallows as he notices the blood on the bionic teen’s hands and the injury it came from. He addresses them both. “From now on we work together, not against each other.”
_____________________
They pull together in the end. It’s sloppy, almost floundering, but they succeed in rescuing Skylar.
Chase had told them all to get some sleep, but she finds him back down in mission control, and she feels the dark anxiety pouring off of him.
“He’s right you know. I am mission leader; I am responsible for everyone’s safety, no matter the circumstances.”
“This wasn’t your fault. It was Kaz’s stubborn recklessness that lead to Skylar’s capture and my injury. If he doesn’t learn to control his emotions, he’ll continue to be a liability to the team.” She counters.
“Maybe, but without his quick thinking, I’m not sure we would’ve survived Roman and Riker’s second attack.”
“I wasn’t doubting Kaz’s cleverness or his ability to adapt under pressure, I was talking about his impulsive tendencies.”
“As I recall, we were just as impulsive on the trandoshan moon.”
“And we learned that lesson the hard way. Kalifa saved our lives. And Kaz should have learned better by now too, but he hasn’t, despite his sincerity in his apology earlier. You forget that I’ve known him a lot longer than you.” She steps closer, sighs. “It’s gonna take a lot more to make a reliable team out of this. And we could, but I’m not sure if they’re really willing to do that, to answer to someone else.”
He frowns. “If you’re so uncertain, then why did you come here?”
She shrugs. “With the destruction of Mighty Med, there weren’t exactly a lot of options when it came to allies or resources, not that I could really abandon Oliver, Kaz and Skylar. And besides, you are someone I know I can count on.”

With a Little Luck and Grace ch 3
Tumblr media
Words: 1746
Pairing: Shay Patrick Cormac x Reader
Warnings: slight NSFW
Leaving Mister Murdock to his own devices left a sour taste in your mouth for the first few weeks until you had settled into your new duties. Your mother had hated the idea of you leaving and going to live with some random strangers who promised you a job, but you had reassured her numerous times that this was the right thing to do -- you couldn’t help your parents keep their inn without more of an income. Achilles Davenport himself, had even stopped by the Inn in Boston and met with you, and your mother to assure you were being offered a steady job.
Mister Murdock’s shop didn’t last. By the end of two months he was so far in debt that he had to sell the shop, and you heard from Shay that Murdock himself was living pretty much in a tavern near the docks now.
Your duties at the Davenport Homestead were simple, cook breakfast and supper. You had the freedom to bake whenever you felt like it or when supplies allowed, and you were given a decent room that overlooked the bay and the boats docked there.
The group of individuals living at the homestead were still rather strange, however. Although, a budding relationship was starting to grow between you and Shay.
You found you actually liked the man’s presence while you talked in the kitchen over a batter bowl or pot of rabbit stew. He made you smile and laugh. You picked up on his flirtatious undertones about the second day you had met him, and as the weeks wore on, became more confident in your abilities to challenge his flirts with your own.
And it had worked. Too well, in fact.
You and he had shared a rather intimate night after everyone had been celebrating. You had been given the day off, as some of the hunters had brought down a large elk to be cooked over a large fire in celebration of something. Shay had asked to dance at one point, and his hands had wandered as the two of you swayed to the fiddle. You had your first kiss behind the stables, the sounds of revelry carrying on without you. You had tumbled in the hay loft, his kisses sweet, and his hands strong.
For close to two weeks now, however, you had been avoiding Shay, the memories of that rather heated moment in the stables still ever present in your mind. Each time you thought about it, a hot blush crept onto your features. Remembering how he had held you, and how his lips had tasted against your s, how he had rested above you and spoke softly, his accent thicker with drink and arousal …
Shay laughed as he leaned against the brick oven, watching as you cleared away the rest of the dishes from supper. Folding his hands in front of him, he smiled down to you as you turned to remove the muffins from the oven. “Those smell lovely, lass.”
“Thank you,” you nodded, folding the linen towel into the waistband of your apron. “You can only have one if you do me a favor, though,” you started, turning to Shay.
Shouldering away from the wall and taking a step towards you, Shay held your gaze as he came forward, only to step around you and lean into your back as he wrapped his hands around your waist. “And what would that be?” he asked, nose nuzzling into the crook of your neck.
Fighting the urge to fall into Shay’s arms, you steadied your breathing. “I … I need some eggs!” you started, stepping away from Shay and brushing a strand of hair behind your ear in hopes of ridding the tingling sensation from your skin. “Jacqueline never returned with them …”
Shay’s gaze flicked to the window, where the stars shone bright behind the few clouds in the night sky. “Eggs,” he nodded.
“Please,” you repeated, smiling as Shay stepped closer to you. “A dozen of them, I think, should do.” Your gaze met Shay’s and your smile grew. “They’re for breakfast, in the morning.”
“Lass …”
“Unless,” you interjected, continuing your rambling, “There’s salmon coming in from the rivers tomorrow mornin’ … We could have fish for breakfast.”
Smiling, Shay relaxed against the counter as you carried on cleaning your work area, mind running too fast for your words to actually make sense. He smiled as he noticed how flustered you were becoming, blushing and keeping your head down.
“We had fish yesterday,” Liam started as he rounded the corner into the kitchen from the back hall. “This kid’s not botherin’ ye is he?” he smirked, slapping Shay’s shoulder.
Jumping slightly as Liam spoke behind him, Shay moved away from the counter, crossing his arms over his chest. As Liam stepped to his side, Shay nudged his shoulder into his side in response to the slap. “Just tryin’ to get a fresh muffin.”
You plastered a large smile on your face as you turned back to the men, picking up one of the fresh muffins on the counter and holding it out to Liam. “Would you like one, Liam? Late night snack?”
Out of the corner of your eye you could just make out the feigned shock expression Shay wore. Liam, however happily reached for a blueberry muffin, raising it in thanks. “Don’t mind if I do,” he smirked. “Keep at it, lass. These are the best muffins I’ve tasted.”
You smiled, turning back to your work. Shay took the opportunity as Liam left to reach for a muffin himself. You slapped his wrist and pulled the basket away from him. “Eggs, please.”
***
It had been almost month since the romp in the hay loft with Shay. The love marks he had left on your skin had faded, though his flirtations had not. He had not given up his quest to make you blush, and would offer to help you at any chance he got. But, you began to watch Shay during his daily routines in the yards, as he threw those same smiles, winks, and flirtatious comments to Miss Jenkins, who seemed to throw them back harder with a large smile.
Shay and Liam were usually seen sparring in the early morning, before breakfast, and in the afternoons, they were usually joined by a Native man and sometimes even a Miss Jenkins herself, dressed in a beautiful, although shorter than respectable, dress with trousers.
“Who are these people?” You caught yourself musing aloud one afternoon as you sat, peeling potatoes with your roommate and newest friend, Jacqueline, at your side.
Jacqueline couldn’t have been more than eighteen years old, and worked as a maid in the main house. You shared a room with her, and found her sunny outlook on everything refreshing after living in the city for so long. She had told you she had been born in Louisiana, but had traveled up here with her merchant father. When he had died, Achilles had taken her in. Apparently, she said, he had known her father well, even called each other friends.
That still did little to quiet your thoughts. These people were strangers. You had watched Shay and Liam kill a group of men the first night you met, neither of them seeming fazed by their actions. Achilles seemed distant, yet respected and confident as he trained the men and women on the homestead.
You sighed, getting back to work. “Come on, then, we’re having more for supper than usual.”
Supper, usually, was a raucous time. Little to no decorum was had on those nights when it was just Achilles, Shay, Liam, and a few other … rowdier folks. When Miss Hope was visiting, however, it was a large affair. The boys seemed to quiet in their jokes, and the large mugs of ale were replaced with glasses of wine from the cellar.
You almost chuckled as you watched Shay trip as he walked into the dining room where you were setting the table. You had grown to expect almost childish behavior from Shay and Liam, and had grown fond of watching the two men act as if they were brothers.
“Don’t tell me you’re already drunk,” you sighed, eyeing the Irishman from out the corner of your eye. .
“Not near close enough,” he said simply.
“Does Miss Hope scare you?” You chuckled, turning to face him. “You, the man I saw kill five men the night we met?”
He glared at you, but there was an underlying smirk. “She doesn’t scare me, lass.”
A bark of laughter from behind you had both you and Shay turning. Liam stepped in from the kitchen, clutching his stomach in an exaggerated laugh. “Hope could send you flying with a pretty smirk. He ain’t scared of, her, he’s far from scared!” Liam laughed.
“All this talk,” Hope’s voice came from behind Liam, her hand curling around his shoulder as she walked past with an ever calm demeanor. “Perhaps we should be a tad harder on Cormac. What say you, Liam?” She smirked. “It would do me great pleasure to see you eat dirt twice during my visit,” she smiled, winking over to Shay as she sauntered towards a chair near the head of the table.
After dinner, you were finishing up the cleaning in the kitchen, replacing dishes and flatware in their rightful homes. You had spent most of the meal listening in on the conversation being had. Hope and Achilles had been talking animatedly about a Benjamin Franklin, while Liam and Shay listened more than spoke. As the meal wore on, was when the pang of jealousy had seated itself in your heart. Hope, Liam, and Shay were undoubtedly close friends. And Hope and Shay you guessed, had been close … like you thought you were with Shay.
Elbow deep in soapy water, you smirked as you felt Shay’s hands wrap around your waist. “Delicious supper as always, lass,” he hummed.
“There are leftover muffins in the basket,” you hummed. “If you want.”
“And what if I don’t? What if what I want is sweeter … warmer …” he hummed, kissing your neck.
You laughed, relaxing back into his embrace. “I have to finish these chores before turning in, Shay,” you hummed, looking up at him as he moved away from you.
Shay leaned forward, hand on your cheek and pressed his lips to yours with no preamble. “Meet me when you’re done.”

Hounds of Justice--Ch. 67

Chapter 67
Hustle and bustle. The rush of the backstage area. Hair, makeup, producers, cameramen, runners. So many people—I’d almost forgotten everything it took to get the show on the air and keep it going.
Alexa grinned at me as she sat in the makeup chair nearby. “It’s good to have you back, Llane,” she said cheerfully.
I let out a happy purr as Samantha worked the dye into my hair, brightening the red. “Just a visit, Lex. Unless Vince has decided he’s going to do a legit handicap match for me.”
“Still. It hasn’t been the same without you. Your boys just mope around back here most of the time.”
“We do not!” Chaotic energy engulfed me, sending a sizzle along my skin.
“Do so,” Alexa shot back, smirking. Dean walked between us, hopped up on the table where Samantha had spread out the tools of her trade. He smiled and pulled a roll of black tape from his pocket.
“We’re not moping, Bliss. Without Llane to get us into trouble, there’s nothing to do.” Dean winked at me as he started wrapping his wrists and hands. “Rollins does pushups, Reigns composes Samoan poetry, and I plan new cocktail recipes. This one…” he jabbed a finger at me… “She’s the troublemaker.”
I gasped in mock outrage, flipping him the finger. He pulled a face that made me giggle. “I buy two thirds of that. Roman has never recited poetry—in English or Samoan—so he sure as hell doesn’t write it.”
Dean smirked, tore the tape with his teeth. “But you agree I’m a kickass mixologist.”
“I agree you find new ways of making me forget the last five years of my life.” I glanced at Alexa. “Seriously. Never drink the Ambrose Ambrosia. It might taste good, but you’ll forget your own name for a week.”
She laughed. A pang of homesickness hit me. I hadn’t realized how much I missed her—all of them—until that moment.
“Renee can handle it!” he retorted.
           “She’s built up a tolerance!”
Alexa nearly fell out of her chair laughing.
“We have a proposition for you,” Hunter said. He’d caught up with me in catering as I talked with Sasha and Bayley.
“What do you mean ‘we,’ Hunter?”
He smiled in that way that was partly frightening and partly endearing. “Steph and I have been talking. We don’t want to pressure you or make you think that you have to take it. If you want to stay retired and spend your time in Iowa, if that’s what makes you happy, we won’t be offended. You gave your life to this business, Llane—almost literally. So, if you want to come back—be a producer, a booker, creative… whatever—there’s a place for you. Onscreen or off—whatever makes you comfortable.”
Burning in my chest. An ache that made me feel like I couldn’t breathe. Something between gratitude and terror.
“Take some time and think about it,” he said. “The offer is open. If you want to take it today, that’s fine. If you want to take it next year, in two years, in ten—you will always have a place here.”
I sniffled, fighting back the urge to cry. “Thank you, Hunter. I… I don’t know what to say. You guys have been so good to me, and I can’t thank you enough. This is more than I could have ever asked for. If I can’t be in the ring, I’d love to be back here.”
Hunter smiled as he stood and rounded the table to engulf me into a hug. “It’ll be good to have you back. The boys have been a mess.”
I couldn’t help but laugh a little. “Has it been that bad?”
He shrugged. “Dean’s been pretty bad, but you know him—he doesn’t talk much. Seth’s doing better.”
           “What about Ro?”
Hunter rested his hand on my shoulder. “He’s never had any doubt that you’ll be back in that ring with another title someday.”
With that, the tears came. I broke down, crying quietly in the catering area. Hunter pulled out a chair, wrapped me in a warm and firm hug. Being back with my wrestling family was overwhelming in the emotions that rushed through me. I was glad to see them again, to be back where I’d been my happiest. But it reminded me of everything I’d lost, of how much my body continued to betray me.
“Thank you,” I mumbled against his shoulder, squeezing him hard. “For everything. For taking a chance on me. And for putting me with the Hounds. It was the best thing that ever happened to me.”
Hunter chuckled. “That was all Steph. And don’t tell her that I said this—because I’ll deny it—but she was hoping you and Seth would hit it off.”
I sighed, grinning. “Of course she did.”
Seth knelt by the edge of the bathtub, his fingers working conditioner slowly into my hair. I let out a hum of contentment at the feeling. He chuckled, letting his nails scrape gently against my scalp.
“So are you going to take it?” he asked, a smile on his face. He gently guided me into an upright position, supporting me with one arm as he used a plastic cup to run water over my hair. He took care to make sure that none of it got into my eyes.
“I think so,” I murmured, too invested in how nice it felt to have him wash my hair. For some reason, it felt more like a moment for us to spend together in peace than him doing something for me because I no longer could. “I miss being on the road with you guys.”
Finished, Seth leaned me back, picked up a towel and began to tenderly dry and wrap my hair. It was like being pampered in a full-service salon.
“We miss you, too,” he replied softly. “And I know I speak for all of us when I say we want you to come back. But I want you to be healthy, Llane. You know what our schedule looks like. Do you think you can handle that kind of travel and stress?”
A frown crossed my face. Irritation snapped into place. Words gathered on my tongue, desperate to tell him that I would be just fine. That he didn’t have to coddle me. That just because my body was broken that didn’t mean that my mind and heart and soul were too.
He sighed. “I’m not saying you can’t do it or that you shouldn’t. You’d be a great producer, and you’d give the girls some fantastic booking or stories. I know you are capable and wonderful. I just don’t want you to get run down. I don’t want anything to happen to you.”
The irritation slipped away. The frown melted into a soft smile. “Maybe it gets to be too much. If it happens, then you and I will talk about it… we’ll figure it out. Until then… I can’t stay in Davenport all the time. Black and Brave takes up some of my time, but I can’t train the women, so I’m basically useless unless I’m doing books or whatever. If I don’t do something, I’ll go crazy.”
His eyes lit up. “You really want my opinion on this?”
I grinned, rolled my eyes. “Of course, you idiot. We’ve got to figure out what to do with the dogs!”
Seth let out a laugh that warmed me from the inside out. He beamed, leaning over to press a kiss to my lips. “I swear I love you, Llane Black.”
“I swear I love you, too. Every person you’ve ever been.”

“And I Pray that Our Stars Aren’t Crossed” Ch.2 (Chase Davenport x Ahsoka Tano)
A Lab Rats/Mighty Med/Elite Force x Star Wars: The Clone Wars crossover.
Synopsis: The first time they met was a complete accident. The second time might have been the will of the Force. But there’s no use in pretending the third time was anything less than on purpose. And there’s no reason to ever be so far apart again that they have to plan a fourth.
Story Warnings: violence, character deaths
_______________________________
This is chaos.
He remembers the sounds of laser fire, Kalifa screaming to split up. Ahsoka ran with her. He kept pace with the others.
He remembers nearly reaching the hideout, hearing branches cracking in the distance, of waving the two boys onward while he stayed. He set up beyond a pocket of dense foliage, the reactivated rifle aimed at the clearing below.
There’s only one trandoshan that comes stumbling through, sniffing the air like a bloodhound.
One shot through the skull brings it down. Tongue rolling out the side of the corpse’s mouth.
He glances down to notice his hands trembling. He swallows, taking the rifle and walks the rest of the way back, face downcast.
The sky is ever so slightly beginning to darken. Chase looks up to find Jinx and O-Mer safely at the campsite. He frowns. Only Jinx and O-Mer.
“Where’s Ahsoka?”
Jinx shakes his head, voice low, “They haven’t gotten back yet.”
He feels a pounding in his chest. Straightening, he turns around, stalking back into the tangle.
It takes near an hour before he finds her.
Head low, eyes nearly fluttering closed, she trudges slowly up the branch. She takes another step as he’s about to reach her, slips, and he grasps her shoulders to keep her from falling.
He looks her over for any injury before making making eye contact. The weary gaze he receives contrasts with the more violent turmoil in her eyes.
“Where’s Kalifa?” he asks, though he’s already guessed the answer.
“She’s dead.”
Chase clenches his jaw, and tries to still the bile climbing his throat. “They’ll pay hell for that.”
It’s a declaration of revenge, one not too dissimilar to the one she heard only a few hours ago, something not in keeping with the Jedi Code. But she says nothing, because if their lives have just been reduced to dying now or later, they might as well drag their hunters down with them.
_______________________________
She clasps a hand on Chewbacca’s shoulder. She breathes a hopeful prayer that his device will work, that somehow tomorrow won’t become their last stand.
The togruta walks away, past the two determined younglings falling asleep by the fire, out to the mouth of the arboreal cave.
She finds Chase just outside, standing still, illuminated by the pale green moon.
“How’s the transmitter coming?”
“Built, but not quite working,” she responds, coming to stand by his shoulder. She takes in his haggard appearance, smeared blood on his cheek, shirt changed to the color of dust.
She wonders briefly what she must look like after all of this.
“Jinx and O-Mer are leaving in the morning.” She takes a breath. “They’re going to use the prisoner to lure down a hunting pod, hijack it and use it to attack the compound.”
“It’s a risky plan. We’ve taken down their ship and killed four of their men. They’re going to be prepared for us to strike hard and fast.”
“I know,” she shakes her head. “But they’re going to go through with it no matter what we say.” A sigh. “And I can’t let them go alone.”
Chase lowers his head, quiet. “And what about Chewbacca?”
“I’m not sure, but I think he’ll help us.”
He sighs. “At least that’s something.” He closes his eyes, his hands beginning to tremble again.
Ahsoka’s eyebrow markings rise. “What’s wrong?”
He laughs. “I think we could both write a list of things that are wrong at the moment.”
“That’s not what I meant,” she softly responds.
He’s quiet for a moment, just staring out at the moon. “It’s just…I’d never killed anyone before,” he admits.
“You did what you had to do to save Jinx and O-Mer’s lives.”
“I know, and I don’t regret it, it’s just…hard.” He sighs, frustrated, running his hands through his hair.
She steps closer, gathering her thoughts. “I understand. Life is sacred. Ending it, even if it’s necessary, is never easy. And it shouldn’t be,” she pauses briefly as he turns to face her. “But you can’t that guilt prevent you from doing your duty.”
He nods. “Thank you,” he whispers, and she realizes just how close they’re standing, that she can see the blue of her irises reflected in his hazel eyes, that she’d barely have to lift her hand to touch him.
“You know I don’t know if we’d have survived this long without your help,” she states.
He smiles, shakes his head. “No, I wouldn’t have any doubts that you would’ve made it on your own. You’re…” incredible is what he wants to say, but he swallows the word. “Skilled. I don’t think I’ve met anyone who can fight like you can.”
“Maybe, when this is all over, I could teach you,” she suggests.
“If we’re still alive, that is.”
She takes his hand, so faintly it’s only their fingers that are barely intertwined. “We’ll survive,” she promises.
________________________________
There’s blood and sweat running into his eyes. He tries to wipe it away, barely finishes the motion before he’s driving that fist into a reptilian eye. There’s a squeal and he brings the barrel of the gun and drives it into the skull. Blood pools onto the ground as the trandoshan spasms. A shot ends the misery.
He raises the gun again to shoot another trying to push a wookiee over the railing.
A loud thud breaks through the chaos.
The body is twisted, neck broken sharply by the fall. The vermillion eyes of the trandoshan leader are turned dull.
He looks up to see Ahsoka standing over the railing, a silence falling over the scene.
It’s over. It’s finally over.
_____________________________
“You know,” she says, after watching the Jedi healers escort the younglings inside the temple. “The Republic could use someone like you.”
Chase smiles, a seemingly melancholy look washes over his face. “Tempting,” he jokes, though perhaps it’s more honest than he’d care to admit, “But I have to find my way home.”
Ahsoka nods. “I understand.” She inclines her head in farewell. “May the force be with you.”
“And with you,” he responds.
And it occurs to her that when he does find his way home, that will be their final farewell.

______________________________________
They are far from home.
The jedi padawan torn from her war. The bionic supersoldier trapped in a part of the galaxy he never knew  existed before. Two lives disrupted for the crude pleasure of a hunter’s game.
She saw him when they were dropped on the island. Cages of people reduced to prey. The ship opened fire and every victim ran, but he, he raised his hands and an energy shield formed from them.
So she followed him into the jungle.
He’s still waiting to wake up and find this nightmare has ended. He knows he should have been more cautious, and caution was the cause of all of this anyways. He may have not believed Leo’s story completely then, but he agreed that the proton fuser needed to be carefully destroyed.
He wasn’t careful enough. He didn’t escape being brought into a far distant part of the galaxy. A stranger, alone, without any money or resources. Trying to defend himself against the reptilian alien resulted in a companion sneaking up from behind and ensnaring him in some kind of electrical net. And then the cage.
And now he’s running for his life.
There’s footsteps gaining quickly behind, so he turns and throws up his shield, lowers it as the alien vaults into view. A girl, that if he had to guess would be about his age, if her species aged the same as humans. Her breathing is barely strained, and her toned athletic form betrays she’s not just any victim.
“What are you?” she sputters, and the question catches him off guard
He catches his breath, and knows he could say nothing and just walk away. But he remembers the dead strewn on the beach.
“I’m bionic,” he says, because he knows he’ll have to take many more risks if he’s ever to get home.
She only nods as if that explains everything, because though there are a dozen more questions she has on her mind they’d only interfere with staying alive. “We should keep moving.”
He’s the one who nods this time, and they make their way deeper into the tangle. He pauses as he pushes a branch out of their way. “What’s your name?” he asks, keeping his voice fairly low.
“Ahsoka Tano, and yours?”
“Chase Davenport.”
________________________
It occurs to him that he’s already failed his purpose. The bionic hero he was engineered to be, the one who puts their life on the line to save others. The corpse strewn on the forest floor would accuse otherwise. And he finds himself clenching his fist.
“We could have stopped them.”
The words spill from Ahsoka’s lips before Chase can utter them himself. He takes one last look at the woman’s fallen body, a hole burned through her chest. His gut twists.
Kalifa has already begun to walk away. “No, Ahsoka, We’re not saviors here. Here we are survivors.” The young girl turns, allowing her anger to fade. “If they had spotted us we would be dead right now.
“We’ll never get out of here if we just keep hiding. We have to act.” Ahsoka declares.
Jinx fixes his gaze on the ground. “There were other padawans here who thought as you do now.”
“Alright, where are they?”
“They’re dead!” is Kalifa’s outburst, clenching her teeth and furiously crossing her arms.
“Just because they failed, doesn’t mean we will.” Ahsoka argues.
“You don’t understand, it’s not that we don’t want to fight. We’re younglings.” The other boy sighs in defeat. “They have every advantage.”
“And by not fighting you simply prolong the inevitable,” Chase reasons, because it’s the sick reality that needs addressed. “At least if we fight back, there’s a chance to get off this blasted planet, to go home.”
“The only chance you’ll have is to get your head mounted as a trophy. There’s only one way to live to see the morning here, and that’s by doing exactly what we do.”
Ahsoka frowns, her expression one of disgust. “I can’t do that. My master would never forgive me for running and hiding in a situation like this.”
“Don’t overestimate your abilities,” Kalifa warns.
“I’m not,” Ahsoka replies, voice suddenly soft. She turns briefly towards Chase.
It feels like a mere formality with how quickly he responds “I’m with you.”
_________________________
He finds himself in awe. The ease with which she tears the rifle from the trandoshan’s hands and lifts him up in the air with her mind, choking him.
She launches her attack fiercely, but the reptilian manages to throw her off across the forest floor.
Chase drops in from behind, landing a blow to the back of the knee. His opponent crumbles momentarily. He aims his next kick hard into its eye. It yelps, but manages to grab a hold of his ankle, throwing Chase hard against a tree. His head and back flare intensely.
The reptilian grabs the rifle, smile twisting on its face. He aims it at Ahsoka.
It’s the young Kalifa who saves them, and it takes several minutes for it to sink in just how close to death they’d come.
_____________________
She sees them chanting in the dark, warm amber light. The young trandoshan, Dar, whose name they’re crying, leans back his head to let a roaring shriek pierce through the air.
She wakes, her breathing heavy, looking around in the darkness at the still sleeping younglings. She sighs, ready to let herself drift back off to sleep when she notices who’s missing.
Soft, faintly green moonlight illuminates the entrance. The bionic teen is just outside, gun dismantled by his side.
“Still working on that rifle?”
He looks up, light reflecting off his hazel eyes. He turns back to his work. “If we can reactivate it, we’ll at least have some advantage.” He returns his gaze to her. “I didn’t mean to wake you.”
“You didn’t,” she replies, and fluidly seats herself beside him. “So how did someone like you end up here anyways?”
He shrugs. “It’s a bit of a bizarre story.”
“Tell me,” is what she encourages, and he obliges. And when he’s finished he’s asking about her, and the Jedi Order and everything about this part of cosmos. And they barely notice when the dawn begins to creep over the sky.
