i am curious on your thoughts on ruri tunes...I personally like it quite a bit but it definitely makes it harder to binge through chapters as i get tired of playing the same 7 songs lol. I also wondered how they'd keep it interesting, considering I'm only on ch 12 and am dreading having to go to 30 with the same songs on the same normal level

On it's own, I like Ruri Tunes! I love the gameplay and the chibi characters are so cute!! But as a whole... it just doesn't work. Ruri Tunes is a rhythm game that's awkwardly shoved in, then forced to be important in a completely different kind of game.

Outside of mini-games or events, rhythm games aren't a thing you can just slide into your unrelated game with no warning. They're a genre, after all. You can't just put one into a visual novel dating sim, make it the defining factor of gameplay, and think players who never would've expected nor voiced want for it to be happy. It'd be like if you wanted to play a board game, but after setting everything up, found out that you have to play a first person shooter to determine how many spaces your piece moves. They clash, it's awkward, and most importantly, a lot of players don't like it.

Luckily, I enjoy rhythm games, so Ruri Tunes isn't that much of an issue to me. But it is to a lot of others. I've even seen some people say they've dropped Obey Me because of it. And I get it!! Ruri Tunes is incredibly time consuming (though the devs have clearly stopped caring about that, since non-VIP players can't skip event dance battles in SWD without using devil points), repetitive (as you mentioned, anon, they only have so many songs to use), and not to mention disability unfriendly! If you're going to make it mandatory, at least do something like D4DJ and include an auto mode!! It's like Solmare hates making money or something.

And the worst part about this is that there's genuinely no way to change Ruri Tunes (at least, no ways I can think of) without either making it the center of the game or pushing it to the side entirely. In rhythm games like Bandori or Enstars, you can actually ignore the story and only focus on the songs. You can do this in D4DJ as well, but thanks to the auto mode, you can actually just view the game as a visual novel with a rhythm game mechanic. If the devs were determined to make a full fleged rhythm game in Nightbringer, they should've done something like that. But because they were too afraid to let go of SWD's clunky ass story and gameplay shoved together deal, we got an "evolved" version of dance battles basically... for the worse.

TLDR: Don't mix two drastically different game genres together, unless it was intentional (and advertised as such) from the start. You'll make some people happy, some more people just okay, and a lot more people dropping your game.

I am probably completely alone in this but I really don't want a default poly route, and I don't want it to be forced so it prioritises romantic over non-romantic choices and causes the scenes afterwards to make no sense if you choose "wrong".

I haven't read anything past ch. 22 as new chapters dropped at the beginning of the recent pop quiz and then during it, but ch. 21 and 22 - despite the uncomfortable premise - gave quite nice friendship options for the boys. Some were even better and more meaningful than kiss scenes. Which was even better.

I really want it to stay balanced and equal for those who stan the boy(s) but not in a romantic way, so we can get some wholesome content. Though shame that Beel had two romantic choices in ch. 21 instead of one. WDYM SOLMARE I CAN'T HUG BEEL he needs a hug and it's totally and absolutely urgent THIS IS CRUEL.

So these chats, albeit adorable, are a bit concerning as they definitely push it the romance way.

And it's a bit worrying because you can't keep it no romo in those chats, there just isn't a choice.

As much as I'm usually completely pro poly routes, not with any character that needs being the special someone for MC - and there are at least 3 in OM!. You'd have to lie to them and that's not how poly ships should work and I'd hate to see it forced on the player as the default option.

I feel like belphie gets slighted on canon content a lot unless its like.. an event For Him. But I'm not sure if its maybe bc hes the only one I really care about and I just notice it more when hes not there bc my disappointment is immeasurable and my day ruined. I feel like it might be also bc a lot of people absolutely hate him bc of ch 16 and solmare probably wants to focus on characters that make them the most money but that might be a stretch lol

Yeeeeeeah, I sometimes wonder if we don't get much Belphie because of some fan reactions to The Chapter 16 Incident™️ too, but like... imo, if that's the case, they should do more Belphie content! For a start, he already has tons of fans who love him (fellow Belphewhores unite) and if Solmare are avoiding him because of the fans who don't like him, they should give him more time to shine so that maybe some of those folks might warm up to him!

...mind you, as I mentioned, I am also a Belphie stan so I am biased here 😅

Just read up on Obey Me!’s ch 16-A and 16-C and like... Why did Solmare do that to me? Now I’m sitting here knowing that the OG timeline never got their MC back after the boys confess they care for MC before they go on a whole Lilith high and Belphie didn’t kill them... So like how was that not kept as the main timeline...? All I’m saying is just because one timeline suffered why did they both have to..? Just because it isn’t the main timeline anymore doesn’t mean the other timeline ceased to be..?
