[Tutorial] How to spin and chain-ply on your drop-spindle at the same time
I've seen this technique at the Lower Saxony spinning group meet-up in June and @disgruntled-lifeform has asked about it, so here is a tutorial. I'm not comfortable with having videos of me taken and no one to take the video anyway so I hope photos are enough...
Little diclaimer: I have only seen someone else doing this so I just pass this knowlegde on. I don't know where it originates. Also: I assume you already know how to spin a single and know the basics of chain- or Navajo-plying
It's really an intreresting technique. You spin and chain-ply in one go, no endless spinning and after that endless plying, which is very practical if you (like me) are no fan of endless spindle plying. Or if you only own one spindle for whatever reason - everyone knows spindles are gregarious animals and keeping only one is not appropriate XP
You need:
A drop spindle of your choice with a leader (Maybe one a little bigger than mine, since the yarn we wind on the spindle is a three-ply, which means it is thrice as thick as your usual single.
Fibres of your choice you want to spin
Tumblr media
It's important that your leader has a loop at the end to pull your single through.
Step 1: Spin your single as you always do. *spinspinspin* You want to do that standing up as you need the single to be quite long:
Tumblr media
Step 2: Then butterfly the single up on your thumb and forefinger to avoid tangling:
Tumblr media
Step 3: Pull the single through the loop of your leader and unwind it from your fingers. At the beginning it's easier to sit down for this step until you get used to the finger movements. It's difficult to pull the single through the loop while holding the spindle in your hand and we don't want any broken fingers!
Tumblr media
Step 4: Pull the single all the way through until just a little bit below the beginning of your unspun fibres:
Tumblr media
Step 5: Then you just ply the loop together in the opposite direction from the direction you spun the single - just as most of you will do anyways while plying. The spindle wants to turn in the opposite direction by itself anyway. Make sure the new loop at the end stays open!
Tumblr media
Step 6: Wind the plied thread on your spindle. Then secure it well on your spindle's hook. Take Care Of The Loop. It Must Stay Accessible for the next section of spun singles.
Tumblr media
Congratulations you have your first section of chain plied yarn on your drop spindle.
Then you repeat the whole thing again and again: Spin a long piece of single - pull it through loop - ply - wind on spindle - secure the new loop at the end on your hook and then go on spinning.
It needs a bit of practise. The lady who showed us the technique said she had been afraid of breaking her fingers when she started learning this technique. But if you have spun and plied on your drop spindle before it should not be too difficult to master. Concentrate on what you are doing and learn how to manage thread and spindle. And if you really sit down for pulling the single through the loop you also get a little training for your legs by costantly getting up and sitting down again ^-~ And when you are comfortable with the whole thing you can also do it while walking around. I, too need more practise until I'm that far.

I love the Undertale blanket so much already and seeing the progress on it!
If you don't mind me asking what stitch are you using for it? I would love to try something like this in the future when I get better at crocheting myself and the stitch you used makes such nice looking pixels! Apologies if this was just stated somewhere previously ;w;
Thank you!! I'm kind of surprised (and relieved) at how fast it's coming along lol
As for the stitch it's called corner to corner or c2c, it's basically just making little boxes so it's perfect for pixel art stuff :D
Here's a video that shows how to do it or here's a written tutorial if anybody finds that easier to follow c:

I loove the android robin au it's really one of the most interesting au I have seen in a while.
I am always happy to see new post abt it
Also making my favourite characters go through hell and then receiving comfort from their people is like the best thing ever for me so every time I see a whump!Robin post I like automatically
Tumblr media
People loving android!Robin makes me so happy anansnssndsnsns she's curious and excitable and full of wonder and the world keeps punishing her for simply being alive. Sometimes it's too painful even for me, big whump lover 😭😭 though seriously, there is not enough Robin whump, and while all the characters in the show are very whumpeable, hurting my little blorbo Robin feels special because... she's just so deeply lonely. She's lonely and she thinks she deserves to be because of something wrong with her (pulling this interpretation from Surviving Hawkins lore which is canon to me 😭). That was a big idea I had when I first came up with android!Robin... that there is something wrong with her. Broken. In this AU she's literally broken in a lot of way (battery and memory problems, weak joints in her lower half, etc), but that's all within the range of normal robot problems. The real issue with her is that she's sentient. It terrifies people because it really brings out the existencial horror of... well, existing. It terrifies Robin most of all. She is the problem. She is what's wrong with her. She shouldn't exist.
But at the same time, she loves being alive so much! She doesn't understand it and doesn't know how it happened, but it happened, and now she's real and wants to experience life and the world and know people like human beings do. So it's her constant battle to become human despite humans having hurt her so much in the past... only for Nancy to already see her as human. Just one made of metal and plastic, but human nonetheless. She's the first person to see her that way and maybe everyone else thinks she's crazy, but Nancy is used to that. She's so sure of this, though, of Robin's self-awareness. She trusts her so blindly. She doesn't even need proof. And not only does she believe her, but she defends her humanity in front of her friends and family so ardently, fighting so hard for Robin to be aknowledged by everyone else as human. Fighting so hard to give her a home and family for the first time in her life.
Nancy has it bad for Robin, really. She's just so in love, even if everyone else thinks she's crazy for falling in love with a machine (no one thinks she is, though, because they all know Robin, and once you know Robin, it's impossible not to love her).
#ronance#android!Robin AU#robin buckley#😭😭 every day im emotional about her at 4 am#ok nice things now:#nancy takes her shopping for the first time! because robin never quite developed her own style#and being a girly girl to Nancy clothes are such a big part of your identity#robin finds these cool chains peoole wear as necklaces and bracelets and all these rings and she loves how they all look on her#and this jacket with different patches on it... she never thought she'd be the kind of girl to like shopping but she's so excited#because its the first time she's choosing what clothes to wear#Nancy introduces her to many different kinds of music alongside Steve#and then eventually the whole gang joins them. everyone gets to suggest one artist and soon Robin has this long asf playlist#to listen to so she can figure out what she likes#same with movies - they all now have weekly movie nights so they can show Robin different films#robin slowly discovering her passions... she reads a lot and finds out she loves languages and literature#and she decides she wants to get into college to study something related to it#she also decides she wants to travel through Europe and wants to bring Nancy with her#she decorates her room with movie and music posters#she decides she really likes cyndi lauper#she tries to learn how to dance with youtube tutorials#dragging Nancy into it#she gets to watch a lot of movies at her job at the movie theater#and she makes friends with her coworkers there#she's not fully and truly becoming a person#she has never been this happy#my posts#thank you for your ask i love talking about android!robin

I get some prank calls/ weird calls where I work and yesterday when we were closing, the phone rang, I picked it up, heard my name, screamed "UAHGHH" from shock, then hung up.
I was like maybe it's my brother messing around and I texted him and he was like "no it wasn't me" but I didn't believe it.
Then I realised, it was my manager. 💀

I wanted to explain to a friend who hadn't yet played Astral Chain how sync attacks work and how the game uses canned animation sequences to preserve the Platinum flair while ultimately making a game that focuses more on positioning, so I spent some time making this visual aid. Idk, maybe someone will find it helpful.
NOTE: If you saw this on Twitter already, that one had a couple errors I corrected, as well as a couple clarity improvements, lol.

Just beat Gascoiiiiiiiiigne
The farming really did help, I took the time to do some of the challenges I thought up last night and it was a good time! Kept me entertained as I ran around in circles, and it motivated me to target the big guys for extra echoes. Bought the axe and was able to upgrade my gun!
I even managed to play the music box this time, which I think was vital to beating him. It's hard to tell what he's doing when I'm in close, cuz of all the blood spray and frenetic movement, so I went for a more hit and run tactic than I usually do - I often sacrifice health to land big hits, which is absolutely coming back to bite me if I don't fix it soon. Already has a bit with Gascoigne.
I struggled a lot with the beast phase again, but this time I didn't attack at the start and instead let myself be chased around so he'd destroy enough of the graves to level the playing field. Made it MUCH easier when I was safely able to disengage after a strike and quite literally gave me space to heal.
And!! I got a visceral finish, and that felt AWESOME.

The Chained Ogre is first found in Outskirts Wall - Stairway immediately up the stairs, shackled to a stand. By eavesdropping on the two soldiers before the Mini-Boss, it's possible to learn that enemies with red eyes are particularly scared of Fire, which is why the Flame Vent found in the Hirata Estate is especially useful against the Ogre to inflict him with Burn.
Before engaging with the Chained Ogre, it's best to defeat the two Ashina Swordsman at the bottom of the stairs and to be careful not to attract the attention of the Ashina Spear-Bearer atop the hill to the left.

Auto-combat games with 15 different microquests that repeat over and over again for the rest of time making the game a never ending tutorial my beloathed
#I try to play these types of games occasionally#because I’m bored and Ill download anything from the app store if it catches my attention#but god they are truly the fucking worst#why you would make an entire game out of everyone’s least favorite part of a game — though it is necessary — is beyond me#the only one I’ve ever played that I could stand for more than like 3 days was one about being a little mushroom creature#possibly not the one you’re thinking of. not the one about marrying an entire town (which I don’t think I would qualify in this genre)#like. these games aren’t so bad if the quests are progression based#but the really shit ones will endlessly ask you to do miniscule amounts of boring tasks#like doing a 10 pull on a weapon summons despite you having way more tickets for it than that#and then ask you to come back to claim ur quest reward and hand u the next microquest#and all of these are considered separate tasks so instead of tracking how many summons u’ve done and marking your progress so u can just —#— do as many as ur gonna do and then you can turn in for that number of quest rewards#ur just endlessly going back and forth between menus. bored out of your mind and wondering when the game will stop dragging you along thru—#— this goddamn tutorial#but then eventually you realize the whole fucking game is that way#like I don’t know if they’re trying to actively worsen my attention span#or if they’re trying to set up the world’s laziest dopamine farm#(spoiler alert it’s probably both. cause worse attention span will make u more reliant on dopamine)#anyway I fucking hate these games I really need to stop giving them a chance#like I said the ones that are progression based and will track ur progression regardless of where you are in the quest chain —#— not that bad. can actually be fun#turn-in based ones?? actually the devil’s armpit. stinky. bad#ok I’m done ranting

All game tutorials are on a spectrum of Post Shift 2 and Oxygen Not Included.
Post Shift 2 is 20 paragraphs of information that functionally boils down to “hear x sound go to y place.” Then Oxygen Not Included an arrow towards each menu as if that’ll somehow explain the 45 things you need to juggle so you can begin to breathe.
