Logan didn't seem to notice that Sam had snuck in mid-lecture, carrying on with class as normal without so much as a glance in his direction. A few students had questions for Logan after lecture, and when they were gone, it was finally just the two men in the room. Making his way to sit across from Sam, Logan finally acknowledged his presence. "I can think of three reasons you'd be in my classroom. Either this is about the goat, you've developed a sudden interest in computer security, or you're here to ask me something about your next door neighbor." 

"Uh-... yeah, actually. I guess there's no sense in trying to hide it," he shrugged awkwardly. Before Sam could ask anything, Logan presented him with an answer. 

"Yes, she is single, though it's been a while since she's been on a date, so it might be better to try and befriend her before you ask her out so you don't scare her away," he said plainly, very confident that that was what Sam was wondering. Sam blinked, shaking his head.

"What is it with this town and making everything about dating?" he asked. 

"Not much else to gossip about. It's a small town, and most everyone knows everyone else's dirty deeds, so the last thing left to talk about is who's sharin' a bed or sittin' on the same side of the booth. Besides, if you're lookin' to mingle, you're better off doing it here than at a bar, unless you wanna drive about an hour outta town or you're tryin' to date a student. Wouldn't recommend either of those options, between you and me, and if the alternative means giving that girl a reason to dress up for something that isn't a dress code, that's just a bonus!" 

"You guys do know there's reality shows on cable if you wanna gossip, right? That's at least designed to be entertaining; I'm just... me. More interested in teaching than I am in dating. Please tell me this'll die down soon." 

"You're the new hot piece of ass in town, Sam, and everyone else has already tried datin' each other, which makes where your derrière is and who it's with the only new or interesting development," Logan said plainly. 

"My derrière?" Sam repeated with a small laugh.

"I will openly talk about a coworker's buttocks, but I will not openly talk about his penis. Do not make me rephrase that sentence just because you've determined you're not the bottom in a relationship." 

"That is... so not where I was going with that," he sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. "Logan, do you know what century this is? No one says 'derrière' anymore." 

"Would you prefer 'fanny'?" Logan asked, entirely serious. "Tuchus? Rump? Caboose? Tush? Keister? Hindquarters? Bootay?" 

"What? No! I would prefer it if everyone stopped making every conversation about dating!" he huffed back. 

"Sorry, but that'll probably take at least a week to die down properly; everyone interested's gonna have to shoot their shot, and they won't shut up about it until they do. If it helps, your department will probably be the worst, so once you meet all of them, it should cool down. Besides, I told you to befriend her first, not to leap straight into dating! So, what're you still doin' in my classroom? Go make friends!"
