Listen I understand Genshin character designs are interesting and very detailed. But let's not ignore the elephant in the room when some of these characters were released and leaked.

I still remember how people complained the Heizou didn't looked like like a detective and how the fandom favored someone else fanart of Heizou before they changed it to an OC when he was officially released.

Same thing happened with Ayato. When people where making fanart of Ayato they had their expectations so high when he was finally revealed. They called him mid and had a boring design.

People even hated Scaramouche new look because they favored his old design.

Finally the newest complaint is the leaked concept of the Pyro Archon. Instead of being inspired by African and Latin American countries she looks like Furina 2.0 only this time she in red.

They are some valid criticism with their designs. For me I'm pissed off how skinny itto yet for some reason Al-Haithem is a more buff that me. However some people are acting like Hoyoverse always made God tier character design

If they were new to the community I would understand they might like the design and are unaware of these drama. But veterans players always have their exceptions too high due to leaks and fan art interpretation so when Hoyoverse released the confirm design they are mob mentality with torches and pitchforks

Before I speak, huge thanks for sharing this! I don't play or interact with Genshin Impact at all. Honkai: Star Rail has been my first exposure with Mihoyo, so I'm not really aware of those things... I did see some characters before, but I've never interacted with the community, so I guess it's my bad on trying to commentate on something I have close to no knowledge on. I mean, I have seen fanart, and the occasional meme, but I've never heard anything.

I'm looking at some of the events you mentioned for reference, though I must admit I have no real idea what you are trying to say in this ask. So if you could clarify: a) Are you criticizing Mihoyo for their changes? b) Or the community for their grand dislike of newer confirmed designs? c) Is this also about newer members being ignorant to Mihoyo's actions?

Still, I did some research and as it turns out it seems to be a mixed bag? There are some clear blunders from Mihoyo's part, lack of representation, and if there is, then it's harmful or inaccurate. Which you would think they would be better at, considering their biggest thing is being open world, with new areas and countries with different cultures to explore. As latin american myself, I looked into the Pyro Archon, and uh, yikes, it's not that hard to make latin american designs that don't weirdly glorify the conquest. I mean, if you still wanted something more "town-like" and less, uh, indigenous, you could always go for revolutionary attire, they have some banger accessories in my humble opinion... Though that is if that's where they are going, since all there is are, well, leaks. Anyways, I won't rant about designing clothing for latin american characters(sorry, it's kind of my passion).

Going back on topic, it also seems that the community does over-do it in some situations? In the Ayato situation anyways, it seems Japan-based players seemed to be pretty okay with his design?

I guess Mihoyo is very hit or miss with their choices. Specially when deviating from their usual models. Still though, would love a follow-up to this ask to clarify, because, I'm not into Genshin and very confused. I didn't know any of this, and I'm always happy to learn more :D

Just wrapped up a session of my weekly PTU campaign, and our GM pulled a fast one on us. Right after a gym battle, we got taken to basically a parallel universe with only Pokémon.
