I know, I know, it's been a few weeks since I did a Babylon 5 episode liveblog - but never fear! The project isn't abandoned. I'm just trying to stuff as much outdoor, active, fun stuff as possible into the end of this month before I have surgery and am stuck in bed for awhile.
So really, this is good news! I started this while drugged up recovering from wisdom teeth surgery, and will be continuing the trend very shortly!
Tomorrow I'm doing a charity bike ride - check it out if you feel like it! TL;DR (because there's a lot of text on the linked page!) my beneficiaries are a community bike shop, a local (to me) compost non-profit, and a cause that's not so much near-and-dear to my heart as "makes me clench my hoo-hah in horror every time I think about it." It's Beyond Fistula, an organization that does surgery on people with fistulas in medically under-served areas and trains them to re-enter the workforce.
Fistula definition under the cut:
A medical injury most often caused by childbirth in which there is a hole between the person's vagina and colon.
It is easily reparable with surgery, but in countries affected by colonialism, that access often doesn't exist, and the people affected are often outcast from their communities, as there's a massive stigma against the affected people.
The stigma exists because a fistula causes unstoppable seepage of fecal material out of the person's vagina. You may, at this point, understand my reflexive vag-clenching horror.

Bianca and Nico di Angelo’s story is equal parts heartbreaking and hilarious, because imagine this. You are two Venetian children (aged 12 and 10 respectively) who don’t speak a lick of English yet you’re dropped off in the middle of 1930s Las Vegas. Although it feels like only 2 months have passed since your arrival, you and your sibling unknowingly spend 70 years in an atemporal limbo known as Lotus Hotel Casino. You learn English by playing tabletop games, bingo, ring toss, slots…even Mythomagic.
When you think about it, Bianca and Nico learned to speak English the same way 2010s kids learned by watching Pewdiepie and Markiplier on Youtube.

Backstage Auctions, Inc. has announced The Alex Van Halen Collection, the auction house's most anticipated and historical auction event of the year featuring the personal collection of legendary Van Halen drummer Alex Van Halen.
Backstage Auctions says: "It is an unbelievable honor to represent one of the greatest rock drummers of all time and we could not be any more excited. Alex is the reason why so many people picked up a pair of drumsticks and this auction is a fantastic opportunity to see so many of his instruments and gear go to new homes. All of these pieces have a thick layer of magic 'Al' dust and we can only hope that it will bring boundless joy and thrills to their future owners."
The collection features over 350 lots, with a wide array of memorabilia, such as drum kits, snare drums, kick drums, road cases, drumheads, cymbals, gongs, sticks and mallets, personal items, record awards, autographed pieces and so much more. The auction is definitely one of those once-in-a-lifetime opportunities for fans and collectors to own a piece of van halen history. Each lot sold will come with a personally signed certificate of authenticity from Alex, which is a collectible in itself.
Tumblr media
Alex says: "I always have pursued the best possible sound, which drove me every single day, every single album, and every single tour to be on top of my game. I hope that passing on all these pieces will inspire current and next generations to be the best they can be. Now, let's have some fun — VAN HALEN style!"
Each piece featured in the auction is essentially a highlight item, but among the standouts is the legendary "5150" tour kit, the 2015 tour kit (and the last kit Alex ever used in concert),his personal collection of vintage RIAA (Recording Industry Association Of America) record awards, the exceptionally rare rosewood snare drums that helped define his signature sound, the eye-catching and iconic gongs, a kick drum from the early backyard party days, and even a piano from the Van Halen family home.
The auction is a celebration of a 40-year career that saw Van Halen sell nearly 100 million albums worldwide, making them one of the best-selling groups in the history of music. Alex Van Halen's place in the pantheon of rock 'n' roll drummers is legendary. The incredible body of work that he created alongside his brother Eddie is memorialized in Van Halen's historic catalog of genre-defining music.
"I kept all these drums, cymbals, heads, and all other kinds of gear, instruments, and road cases in my warehouse for decades and it will bring me great pleasure to see them end up in the hands of my fans and fellow drummers," says Alex. "A portion of the proceeds will go to the Ride On Therapeutic Horsemanship charity to further support the services they provide to those in need."
Alex and his wife have been longtime supporters of Ride On Therapeutic Horsemanship. The organization's mission is to promote the welfare of at-risk youth and people with any type of physical, intellectual or cognitive disability by means of equine-assisted activities and therapies, and by providing instruction and education for all in equestrian-related social, vocational and recreational activities.
The auction will open up for bidding on June 1 and close on June 9.

Y'all got no fucking clue how excited I got in a public place. Lady at the counter had to ask why I was so excited and I had to explain that it was branded with the mech of my favourite anime character.
£3 at the charity shop. Best charity shop find ever.

Okay but like. AU where Antiope does accept the internship at the Ministry, slowly loses contact with the rest of the Maidens... and then years later just so happens to bump into and reconnect with her old friend Sam Nightingale, now one of Solace's premier adventurers?

The Marvel Trumps Hate charity auction was so fun!! I mean, it continues to be fun? I haven’t actually been in touch with my auction winners yet, but I am definitely looking forward to it! Do y’all know of any other fandom charity auctions that allow for physical objects? I will definitely be participating in MTH again next year, but idk if there are any others I could be doing  Also I have a Jack Skellington plushie, an Appa pattern, and a bunch of pokemon patterns and I think people might like them at fandom charity auctions?

A charity rally yesterday, bikers ready for the start of the tour. It began in Plantagenet Ontario, and was going to end with a spaghetti dinner in Alfred later in the day. The weather was awesome for the ride, good showing, and hopefully a successful event for the fund raisers. A cheerful smile and expression makes everyone around you happy. When you do everything with a smile, not only you…

ACCF Hosts the 13th Annual Witches of Delray Beach Bike Ride
Tumblr media
Delray Beach, FL – On Saturday, October 26th, 2024, the streets of Downtown Delray Beach will be transformed into a lively Halloween spectacle as the 13th Annual Witches of Delray Beach Bike Ride takes flight. Hosted by the Achievement Centers for Children & Families (ACCF), this community event has become a beloved tradition, combining festive fun with a meaningful cause. Hundreds of witches will soar down Atlantic Avenue on their uniquely decorated "brooms" (bikes) in a morning full of spooky fun, all to raise funds for local families in need.
Event Details: A Wickedly Fun Ride
This year's Witches Ride promises to be a grand return to Downtown Delray Beach. Starting at City Hall, the ride will zoom down the vibrant Atlantic Avenue, ending at the historic Old School Square Pavilion. Guided by the Delray Beach Police Department, 300 witches will show off their best witch costumes, adorned hats, and extravagantly decorated bicycles.
The ride kicks off promptly at 8:30 a.m., but the fun doesn’t end there. After the ride, participants can gather at the Old School Square Outdoor Pavilion Stage for an awards presentation. Prizes will be awarded in categories like “Best Costume,” “Best Witch Cackle,” “Best Decorated Broom (Bike),” and “Best Group Theme.” It’s a magical morning of camaraderie, creativity, and celebration.
Pre-Event Festivities: “Not Your Basic Witch” Hat Decorating
This year, ACCF has added a new element to the Witches Ride preparations. Amanda Perna, designer and Project Runway alum, will host the “Not Your Basic Witch” Hat Decorating Event on October 1st at the House of Perna Boutique & Atelier, located at 8 E. Atlantic Avenue in Delray Beach.
Starting at 7 p.m., attendees will have access to an array of hat decorating supplies, from traditional materials to couture crafts, ensuring that no witch is caught without a fabulous hat. With limited space, witches should register quickly! (A rain date is scheduled for October 8th.)
Witches Brew: A Signature Fundraiser
Long-time event partner Tim Finnegan’s Irish Pub will also host the annual “Witches Brew” on Friday, October 18th from 6 to 9 p.m. This festive fundraiser is another great way to support the Witches Ride while enjoying a fun night out with the community.
A Month of Wicked Fun: Ways to Get Involved
Throughout October, there will be a variety of opportunities to support ACCF and get involved with the Witches of Delray Beach. From special events to donation drives, ACCF offers plenty of “Ways to Be Wicked” leading up to read more
