What If
Tumblr media
Summary: The night before Bill’s wedding, Charlie and Kate find themselves squeezed together in one of the Burrow’s rooms. In an attempt to find some sense of normalcy, they allow themselves to be silly and talk about what their lives would have been hadn’t met at Hogwarts. Romance/Hurt/Comfort
Pairing: Charlie Weasley/Kate Williams (hphm mc, original female character) established relationship.
-
Quiet as a mouse, Kate tiptoed over the creaky floorboards of the Burrow towards Charlie’s room. The door squeaked when she pushed it open and she winced. Not bothering to light a candle, she closed the door behind her without taking her eyes off Charlie’s figure on the small cot.
It wasn’t a big space, just enough to fit a single bed and a dresser next to it. A small round window helped the room not be so claustrophobic.
The man moved on closer to the wall, silently making space for her, and placed one foot on the mattress, leaving his knee up.
Accepting the invitation, she lay next to him on her side. They remained silent for a while, the events of the past days replaying in their heads incessantly.
George was injured. Moody was killed. A wedding was coming.
Kate eyed him with worry and was about to say something when Charlie twisted the hand closest to her, meaning to caress the nearest body part. Without moving his stare off the ceiling, he caressed her thigh with a knuckle.
“How is he?” He murmured.
Kate sighed and scooted her head closer to rest it on his shoulder, hiding her tired eyes on his shirt.
“Hole-y”
“Oh, not you too…” he couldn’t hide the faintest of smiles and felt her own against his arm.
“He got extremely lucky.” She added, suddenly solemn. “But he will have it like that for life.”
Charlie turned, limbs clashing and tangling, wiggling onto his side to face her, squirming to be in a more comfortable position.
“Next time, we banish Bill and Fleur from the bigger room.” Kate commented as she hugged his torso with one arm.
He reciprocated her touch and his hand came to rest comfortably against her shoulder blades.
“Oh, I’ll make sure of that.”
Wrapped in a hug, both of them tried to relax their muscles with a long sigh. Some copper curls fell in front of his eyes and she chuckled, keeping on the amused smile as he tried to lift them up with huffs of breath. She knew he wanted to improve her mood, and his own, allowing himself to be silly for once in a long time. Laughs were scarce since the war started and they fed with only crumbs of joy when they managed to find a moment of intimacy.
She studied his face; it was worryingly paler than usual, only his freckles gave him a more natural colour. He was thinner around the cheeks too, and his beard had grown quite a bit as well as his hair.
Noticing her stare, he questioned her with a lift of the brows.
“You will look handsome tomorrow.” He smirked at her comment and squeezed her closer.
“And to think… you were going to make the fatal mistake of wearing that blue dress.” She started to reply, but he kept talking over her, “No, don’t get me wrong, it looks enchanting on you, but then we wouldn’t match.”
Kate shook her head, amused.
“You’ve spent too much time with André.”
“What can I say?” A deep laugh escaped him as she sneaked a hand under his shirt and started caressing his lower back with a thumb.
“I didn’t know you liked it so much that we matched each other.”
He hummed, “Not all the time, of course, just when it’s fancy.”
“Oh, so now we’re one of those couples?” Suddenly, Charlie’s smirk faltered. The question was clear in his eyes. “I’m just teasing you, love.”
He relaxed again, the flash of insecurity forgotten.
“And what kind of fancy events are you talking about?” She added with a chuckle, “We don’t get invited to those, we live in a forest.”
“Hypothetical fancy events. If we were that sort of people who attend balls and such. We must match, that’s a rule. So, if you wear the blue dress, then I’ll need to find a matching tie or something.”
Kate hid her face in the pillow, and in between uncontrollable giggles she added,
“What in the name of Merlin are you talking about? I have never ever in my entire life, seen you with a tie.”
“Well…”
“I’ve seen you with muddy boots, and fireproof vests, and muddy trousers, and fireproof balaclavas, and muddy…”
“Alright, alright, but that’s because you’ve met me very young. I’m getting more…refined now.”
“Sure…” She snickered, and he threw her a smirk, imitating her gesture and lifting her top to touch skin.
“Who knows…perhaps if we hadn’t met I would be a completely different person.”
They remained pensive for a while, considering his statement.
Would they be?
“Somehow, Charlie, I don’t think so.”
He smiled again then, not playful, not teasing, just content.
“In the hypothetical situation where we avoided each other entirely at Hogwarts, do you think we would have met at some point?”
“Well, I think so. Here at the Burrow maybe, you got along with Bill so maybe we could meet when I came to visit. Perhaps here! At his wedding.”
“Oh, you wouldn’t even look at me, then, because I would be wearing the blue dress.” She attempted to tease him again, not expecting him to match her tone.
“No, you wouldn’t, because I was there when you bought it.”
They laughed nose to nose, gripping each other more closely in the process, legs wrapping around one another.
“I would still be working at St Mungo’s”
“I would be at the reserve, no doubt.”
“I maybe, just maybe, would invite you to dance with me.”
“And I would have fallen in love with you just as easily.”
Kate was left stunned by the raw sincerity in his eyes. Her gaze travelled from his irises towards his mouth, barely resisting the urge to touch her lips to his inviting ones.
He closed the gap, trapping her upper lip with enthusiasm. She whimpered and then giggled, surprised by his loud smooch when she was going for a soft peck of the lips.
“And that would have been a problem.” He continued, lips brushing each other. “Because you would have appeared with a renowned Mediwizard by the arm and I wouldn’t stand a chance.”
“Funny you ignore the bubbly dragonologist you would have brought with you.”
“That would have been just for show.” He started slowly pressing against her so she would lie down on her back.
“Maybe, but I wouldn’t know that…”
He hummed when she grabbed him by the upper arms to balance herself and bring him along in the process. Charlie turned and lift himself with an elbow, resting his chin on his knuckles.
He kept his other hand busy, leaving long and slow caresses from her hip to her knee and up again.
Kate’s thoughts suddenly drifted to that imaginary scenario; dancing at Bill’s wedding, both of their companions forgotten somewhere. She had known Charlie since they were very young, and she cherished having grown up alongside him, but she knew at the bottom of her heart that meeting an adult Charlie for the first time would have devastating effects on her. In the best of ways.
Kate knew the smirk he was giving her, she knew he could get inside her head and know exactly what she was thinking. She had to look away.
Seizing the opportunity of her turned head, he bent down to press a kiss right behind her ear and her eyes closed automatically.
“I prefer to think that I would have come alone.” She murmured after a while.
“Both single then?”
“Of course.”
“That’s better.” Kate locked eyes with him again, “Then I wouldn’t feel so guilty about not taking my eyes off you all night.”
“I feel like this alternate-Charlie is very flirty.”
“Would the alternate-Kate be receptive to that?”
“Perhaps…but,” he raised an inquisitive eyebrow, “But I don’t think you would act like that. In this scenario, we would know each other from school. Would you really have the courage? The only thing you would know about me is that I was the Cursed Girl.”
“Scratch that, then. We don’t know each other. You studied in another school.”
“Me? Why me?” She said a little too loud. Charlie laughed and placed the hand that had been on her hip over her mouth.
“There’s no way Mom would allow me to go to some other place.”
She could practically see his eyes darken when she placed a kiss on his palm. Slowly, he withdrew his fingers before caressing her neck with his fingertips. He flattened his hand on her chest and made his way down her sternum, over her waist and finally on her hip again. Kate was left breathing heavily under him. She concentrated on relaxing again, but his fingers against her skin were making it very difficult.
“Fine. I went to Ilvermony. I never met Bill, so forget about the wedding. Where would we meet?” Raising a hand, she delicately drew back the red locks falling on his forehead and rested her palm on his chest.
“I bet you would be bored out of your mind and you would seek adventures in Romania. And I would assist with that.”
“Oh, is that so?”
“Mm-hmm.” He nodded. Making himself more comfortable, he rested his chin on the palm of his hand, their faces getting closer. “Imagine this: tired of the routine, Katherine Williams takes a leap of faith and decides to follow a hunch crossing the ocean towards Romania…”
“Why there?” she interrupted, hypnotised by his deep voice. He always fascinated her with his ability for storytelling, real or invented, he managed to keep her (and everyone for that matter) desperate to hear more.
“Because…” He made a pause, before a toothy grin adorned his face. “because she read that a very curious flower is native to that land, and hungry for more information, she parted towards Transylvania.”
“What does the flower look like?” She whispered. Taking her hand off his chest, she brought it to his shoulder and down his biceps. He delicately squeezed her hip in return.
“Don’t you know?” He teased, “It’s white, purplish in the middle. Somewhat bell-shaped and with big leaves.” He closed the gap between their faces slowly, touching her nose with hers. Her eyes fluttered close when his lips ghosted hers and travelled across her cheek, barely touching her skin. All the while murmuring, “And it’s very, very, poisonous.”
“Wait.” she chuckled, “Are you talking about Datura stramonium?” Charlie placed a soft kiss right before her ear began and resumed his previous position above her.
“What else? You were obsessed with that thing for months. Now let me finish, will you?”
Kate shifted below him, raising a knee up and resting it against his hip, trapping his body between her legs. His gaze lowered to her lips.
“Alright, alright, go on.” She apologised, not missing his lusty stare.
“As I was saying, Katherine Williams tracked this flower across the forests of Romania, but one day the woods were still. Too still.”
“It doesn’t really grow in fores…”
“Shh, right behind the trees, she saw a long horned-tail disappear. She decided to follow the creature…”
“Absolutely not.” She snickered.
“...and after walking for a while, the forest opened to reveal the valley where a Dragon Reserve was settled. She figured it couldn’t hurt to ask around about the flower, and rest in the meantime.”
“Did anyone there know about it?” Kate asked with a raised eyebrow.
“Of course not.” They shared a hushed laugh while Kate lifted his shirt slightly, caressing his side absentmindedly. “But they offered drinks and some food, and a bunk bed in one tent if she needed it.”
“Who offered?” She smirked, knowing the answer.
“The handsome redhead of the bunch. They connected, “Charlie raised the hand on her hip to snap his fingers quickly, “just like that.”
“Wow, she really lucked out that day, huh?”
“As did he.” Kate pressed her leg against him, trying to bring him closer. His fingers moved from her hip to the back of her other leg’s knee and just when she thought he was going to lift her leg, he caressed his way back up. “They explored the forest together from that day on, naturally, she needed a guide, and he was quite smitten with her. And that’s it.” He finished, surprising her.
“That’s all? That’s how it ends?”
“Well, it’s a love story, it doesn’t need to be complicated, does it? They fell in love and lived happily. With no bigger concerns than his dragons and her herbs. He built a tower for her and everything.”
Suddenly, the small smiles playing on their lips curled down. Was it wrong indulging in that wishful thinking? Could they ever have that life someday? The life they thought they had been building before everything went down? Their eyes met, a little watery, a little bittersweet.
“They grew old?” she asked with a small voice. Charlie let out a breath, holding back emotion, and leaned down to place a lingering kiss against her lips. Not soft, not teasing, just loving and reassuring. She lifted her head to reciprocate the pressure, and they both parted slowly after that.
“They did. With some scars and burns, but they did.”
Without another word, he lifted himself up slightly and let his weight fall on top of her slowly. The arm he was leaning on disappeared between them and he allowed his head to rest against the crook of her neck, his face buried against her skin and hair.
Kate’s arm curled around him, automatically searching his red locks, anchoring him to her. They lay in silence, her massaging his scalp and him hugging her waist, each lost in their own thoughts.
“I was thinking more along the lines of ‘dragonologist follows a dragon across the world…,” she said all of a sudden, “and ends up severely injured…’”
“Kat!” Charlie gasped, “I know you’re a healer, but I don’t need to get hurt in this invented scenario.”
“And you woke up in a bed, a little disoriented, but with your wounds taken care of and a healer sitting at the end of the bed.”
He shook his head against her neck.
“I don’t think I like this game anymore.”
“But I patched you up so nicely, not even a mark on you remaining.” At his silence, she started rearranging her story to a lighter tone when he asked, face still buried against her hair,
“And then what?”
“Well… I needed to keep you there for a few days to make sure you were alright. And you argued with me, whining about your lost dragon.”
“Listen, it was of utmost importance. And I was clearly alright, why wouldn’t you let me go?”
“I was just doing my job… I let you go then, and we didn’t see each other for a few days. Until one night, you came to the hospital looking for me.
“Was I injured again?” He asked with an uninterested tone as she kept her finger massaging his head.
“No, you found me hunched over some scrolls and asked me to go to a bar you discovered the day before.”
“Oh..?” She felt him smirk against her neck. “How did I know you would be working so late at night?”
“A quick and correct assessment of my personality that took you less than a day and you bragged about all the way to the bar.”
The redhead pressed himself against her, squeezing her waist with teasing intent. She felt his mouth opening against her skin, and with practiced delicacy, he wrapped his teeth around her skin.
“I knew you were going to accept the offer.”
Kate repressed the urge to squirm under him but cursed to herself when he noticed her shifting her hips towards him.
“We had such a great night that from that moment, you came to pick me up after work every day for a few weeks.”
His eyebrows met his hairline. “Only a few weeks?”
“Well yes. You had to go back to Romania.”
Charlie raised his head, breathing some cool air and turned slightly so he would look at her. Kate felt he was about to say something, so she let him a moment to figure it out.
“I didn’t touch the portkey.” He said softly, making Kate hum, a question written on her face.
“We parted after our last night at the bar. But I couldn’t take you out of my mind all the way to the portkey station…”
“And you saw me there,” she interrupted. “I apparated there to stop you.”
“And I did.”
Kate averted her gaze to the ceiling, swallowed once more by the recently acquired fear of the unknown now that a war was looming around the corner. She felt Charlie’s hand raise from her waist, and he gently placed a finger on her chin, making her turn to look at him.
“It seems only fair, Kate,” he whispered with an uncharacteristically serious expression, “That when the time comes you find a life away from Romania, I will follow you. Wherever you lead. Just as you did for me years ago.” When she didn’t answer, he added, “I would not touch a portkey for you as well. Not just in your invented story, in our reality as well.”
Her hand moved from his curls towards his face, cupping his cheek, her thumb drawing circles across his freckles. And she didn’t resist leaning in, silently thanking with a slow kiss his words, his presence there with her, his support, his friendship, his love. She tried as hard as she could to kiss away his worries and doubts that mirrored her own, letting him know with every rocking of lips and every caress of her thumb that whatever happened they would get their lives back. They would get their simple and uneventful love story they so wished for and was currently threatened.
They would make sure of it.

A/N. Once again. It turned out more angsty than I had planned. Why am I like this? Someone tell me. Also, it was a bit of a nod to the world cup fic eh? They’re just like that what can i do. (is their love lowkey insipred by where you lead by carol king? unintentionally yes.)

Can We Fall?
Kristin was just trying to find her way around life after the war but the undecided feelings of Draco seemed to come back. And when thoughts started to come around so did Draco. The question is if they are going to do something about it and if they could even heal from the past.
Draco Malfoy X OFC
10k words
Kristin let out a sigh when she finally made it home, hanging her bag on the hook she tossed her badge in the bowl beside the door. As she walked through her house, she followed the voices that she could hear in the sitting room. She had forgotten all about the plan for today, Lizzie was finally bringing the Weasley family over to their house. Letting out a sigh she figured she at least go say hello, it was the polite thing to do after all. And wasn’t like she had anything against the Weasleys, Fred and George were always around the house since Lizzie and George started dating about a year ago. Kristin and Lizzie were even friends with them starting from an accident in their shop that brought them to St Mungo’s a while back. Just after the day she had at work, going to socialize seemed like an extra task she just didn’t have the energy to do. But nonetheless she walked into the living room with a smile on her face to the sea of people smiling and laughing as they turned to look at her.
“Krissy!” Lizzie yelled a smile on her face as she jumped up from her spot on the couch next to George and walked over to her friend. Gently grabbing her arm Lizzie pulled her further into the room. Letting herself get dragged along till she was standing in front of everyone. “Meet the Weasleys, well ones you haven’t met. This is Arthur, Molly, Bill, Fleur and Charlie. You obviously know everyone else from school.” Lizzie told Kristin, pointing out the new Weasleys like she didn’t know who they were. Everyone now knew of all the Weasleys at this point in history and probably for much longer as their names were already going in history books. Besides them Fred, George, Percy, Ron and Hermione were also taking up various spots in the sitting room.
“Hi. I’m Kristin Travers.” She introduced herself to the group, giving them a small wave. “Sorry about the mess.” She said waving over her appearance, her light green robes were a mess, despite the fact it was her second pair of the day. Magic could only do so much cleaning of clothes, her once neat hair was frizzing out of her ponytail which she was too tired to even care to much, her Mother would have been disapproving of her right now. But like she said it had been a day.
“Oh! You are perfectly fine dear. You work at St. Mungo’s like Lizzie, right?” Molly questioned her giving her a kind smile from her place on the couch.
“I do. I just started practical training with her not too long ago.”  Kristin explained, giving the lady a small smile in return. Both girls knew they were going to be healers at a young age and started studying early in their Hogwarts years. Madam Pomfrey would take them in on weekends to even get more experience during their later years.
“My girls are just so smart.” George said, throwing his arms over both of lizzie and Kristin pulling them close to him.
“Since when am I your girl?” Kristin laughed looking up at him, her and George had gotten pretty close since they met each other. All four had actually been hanging out almost everyday for a while before Lizzie and George started dating. It took all of Freds and Kristin effort to actually get them together instead of one them shying out of making a move. Eventually Lizzie finally found her courage and asked him if he was going to ask her on a date or not.
“Always have been, you are Lizzie are a packaged deal. Can’t have one without the other.” George explained roughing up her hair even more.
“Glad to still be included then. But I am going to shower.” Kristin laughed as she ducked out from underneath George, giving the group a small wave as she headed out of the room and towards her own bedroom. The portraits on the wall said nothing but the distrain was clear on their faces, they had learned long ago that if they were to comment on her attire they would find a place in the dark basement for a lifetime. Mother started it after she took a job after father was imprisoned after the first Wizarding War, women in the Travers family were expected not to work and be housewives and mothers. Nothing more.
But mother couldn’t stand sitting home all the time when Kristin got older, so she opened a clothing boutique which then expanded to multiple stores all over the Wizarding world. Her Mother planned for her to take over the company when she came of age but still allowed Kristin to continue with her studies for being a healer because it looked well during the war. How could the women of the Travers family be guilty of anything when they own a clothing store and learning a job that helps people? Even as Mother passed no one could quite figure out where the women of Travers family loyalties lie. The past family members were not happy with Mother and her taking up jobs for any reasoning were very looked down upon. Mother excuses were useless, they would have wanted her to remain staring at an empty house all day along. And Kristin just didn’t care too much about a bunch of old dead men that no longer mattered.
It only mattered when Father came home and decided that Kristin taking advanced training would be helpful for the cause. So even he didn’t mind that his wife stayed loyal to him and his daughter was learning to stay neutral and let her continue. The only agreement was she was to keep the family name and pass it down, with the wealth it brought in, plenty of others were more than willing to comply.  She was glad the war ended when it did, she was almost married off to a terrible man that was ten years her age. Sadly or luckily he had died in the Battle of Hogwarts alongside her mother and father, leaving the family wealth to her. Another thing the portraits looked down upon, the family line falling to a women despite the fact she still would continue the family line, was a stain on the family name. But there wasn’t much they could do besides sit in their frames and glare as she walked by.
Shaking her head of the thoughts she took a long hot shower to clear her head. Plenty of people avoided going to Healers during the war, too afraid to be seen or whose side they were on. Despite stating that St Mungo’s was neutral in the war the trust wasn’t there. A lot of people needed basic care that they had avoided and Kristin, with Lizzie, being in beginning practical’s, they was the one that tended to them. It was a never-ending amount of people all day every day.  And she loved it. But it was tiring to say the least. Figuring the Weasleys would still be here she threw on a pair of jeans and a comfy sweater, drying her wet hair with magic before throwing it up in a ponytail and making her way to through the kitchen.
Tops was busy with the dishes, his magic cleaning up the dinner that he had made for the guest. But by technicalities Tops was a free elf. Mother had given him clothes long ago refusing to let someone in her house to be dressed how he was. Not once did Tops try to leave, in fact he enjoyed Mother finding and fixing up new clothing for him. Mother treated him like some sort of doll and he stayed to help take care of the house and raise Kristin. Father was upset when he found out but he was in Azkaban at the time and when he was free, Tops had proved his loyalty. At that point there wasn’t much Father could do, after all Tops came from Mothers family. And being around Mother for so long, Tops was a great help with the boutiques when Kristin had too much on her plate with her training. He was family at this point and Kristin wouldn’t have been able to make through any of the last few years without him by her side.
“Miss Kristin!” He exclaimed, smiling as she walked into the room. “I have a plate for you.” He told her waving his hand towards the dinner on the breakfast table, magically kept warmed up for her. “The others are just finishing up dinner but I thought you would like to eat it out here alone for a bit.”
Kristin grinned at Tops. “You know me all too well. Thanks Tops.” She told him when he went back to the dishes. Kristin slowly ate her dinner in content silence nothing but the plates clanging around as Tops cleaned them. Once finished she brought her dinner to the sink apologizing to Tops about giving him another dish while he just scoffed at her and told her to go.
Kristin found the large group in the dining room, their plates already disappeared, a large floral centerpiece sitting on the table being talked about. Gorgeous purple and white flowers spilled over the sides of a vase. Kristin rolled her eyes knowing exactly where they came from and Lizzie’s smirk just confirmed it. She had been receiving flowers once a week for the past four years, she didn’t even know if Draco Malfoy remembered that he still had someone sending her flowers. It was silly and dumb and Kristin won a bet she couldn’t even remember what it was but she ended up receiving flowers for years. And she wasn’t going to complain too much, they were gorgeous.
“They were just complimenting your lovely flowers here. From the one who got away.” Lizzie teased her best friend. Kristin just glared at her, sure Draco and her had something but she knew exactly where Draco stood proudly at the beginning of the war. And Kristin stood where she was to stay alive and tried everything to get away. It was just too much of a difference in beliefs for it to ever be more. “Oh shut it. Draco is not the one who got away. Not even close.” Lizzie rolled her eyes at the denial, Kristin forgot that Lizzie was around all the time and saw the two of them.
“You know Malfoy?” Hermione said quietly from her spot on the chair, giving her a quizzingly look. Kristin nodded her head at the girl unsure where the conversation would go, it was still a rough topic to talk about.
“I did. Our mothers were friends that worked together, so we spent a lot of time growing up together. I still write to his mother once in a while, since I own my Mothers business now but I haven’t seen him since the end of the war I think.”  Kristin explained shrugging her shoulders, she sat down beside Fred curling her legs underneath her.
“Lizzie here thinks that we would be good together if he grew up and became a better person, of course. And wants me to try and get ahold of him.” Kristin told them rolling her eyes, she did miss her friend but only half of him. She never liked the fact he would bully people and thought so little about others, she was raised the same way and yet she still didn’t have the same beliefs he did. Sure she may not have had her death eater father around all the time but the ideas were still there.
“Malfoy will never change.” Ron scoffed at the comment causing Hermione to glare at him, gently pushing his arm at the comment.
“I think he has. He apologized to me. And it seemed genuine. And he also tried to talk to you but you just didn’t let him. Even Harry heard him out and let the past lie. I see him late at night in the Ministry, he helps families that lost everything in the war. He has paid for a lot of Hogwarts reconstruction and relief funds for wizards who lost everything in the war. I don’t think he has put his name on anything but I know what offices his going too. I think he is trying to make up for his decisions the best way he can.” She exclaimed. Some of the other Weasleys nodded along with her, like they all knew this fact. Kristin gave Lizzie a look which Lizzie just smiled at the girl like she had somehow won.
“They say Lucius and Narcissa haven’t left their house since, at least not Lucius. No one will work with him in the ministry anymore. They were even thinking of selling the home and moving to America.” Mr. Weasley added to the conversation, causing shocked faces across everyone in the room. Everyone knew how much the family home means for pure-blood families, even Kristin couldn’t part with her own home despite not believing the family values anymore. It just explained how bad life was for them. They did deserve it after all, but it was still a sad thing to think about the people who she grew up with.
“Oh Arthur, no need to gossip.” Molly said place a light hand on her husband’s arm. “You said you own your mother’s business. What type of business?” Molly asked Kristin to redirect the conversation somewhere else. Kristin thought that it was sweet that no matter what Molly still didn’t want to talk to bad about others. It fit everything she heard about the women over the years.
So the night went on like that until the Weasleys left and the girls and George headed up to bed for the night. Of course the Weasley didn’t know George stayed the night but it was a small fact that they didn’t really need to know. They approved of Lizzie which was the only thing that really mattered, not that anyone was actually worried about it too much but with the past it was a bit harder to predict.

Kristin ran a hand through her hair, letting out a sigh as she looked at the charts before her. She decided to pick up a shift to help out a friend, she didn’t mind much it was just another busy day. The Healers said their duties should die down soon; appointments were going down finally. They just needed to get through the last stretch of it. Putting on her face she walked out to the office space and grabbed the next chart from the assistant, flipping through to get to the name. Pausing slightly she made her way out to the waiting room, she turned around to find the blonde-haired man away from everyone hiding in a large hoodie trying his best to not be seen. Instead of calling out his name she walked over to him causing him to look up at her, his eye widened at the sight of his long-ago friend.
“Come with me?” Kristin asked gently giving him a small smile. Nodding his head he got up and started to follow her through the quiet halls.
Quickly stopping another Healer in the halls to call someone else to the room since she couldn’t actually help Draco since she knew him. They continue walking to his room to wait. Peaking quickly behind her back at her old friend, he looked much better than when the last time she saw him after the Battle of Hogwarts. His face that was once hollow had filled out again, he no longer had his permanent dark circles under his eyes. He looked like his old self again just a bit older version of himself.
“I figured you wouldn’t want me to call out your name.” Kristin said softly. “I’m just bringing you to your room.
“I appreciate you not. Thank you. How are you liking being a healer?” Draco asked, trying to diffuse the awkwardness between the two of them. “I know it was your goal and clearly you did it.”
“I kinda love it.  I feel like I’m really doing something with my life.” Kristin told him quietly.  “How have you been doing?” She asked him softly. Draco went to say something but quickly turned his head down while facing the wall when they passed a group of people coming out from one of the waiting rooms. They walked in silence for a bit until they got to the room they needed, Kristin led Draco into the room telling him to sit down.
“Here you are. The healer will be in shortly, it shouldn’t take too long.” Kristin told him which he just nodded his head at. Both of them were unsure what to say to each other, she wanted to yell and scream and hug him at the same time.
He was the boy that she would play with toys with, the boy that ran through the gardens playing tag. When she was having issues with some older Slytherins he stood up for her and made them stop. When her Father came home and he was the run, she started freaking out how everything was going to change. Yet he was also the guy who picked on younger students, who said vile things and joined a group that their purpose was to kill and under some illusion that they were better than others. Even with him changing sides near the end doesn’t mean his beliefs truly had changed on the matter.
Kristin didn’t know how long they stood there watching each other but a knock at the door bought her out of her thoughts. Healer Scott walked in with a smile on his face, nodding to Kristin and turning to face Draco. Saying her goodbyes, she walked out of the room and made her way to waiting room again to grab the next patient.

Days turned into weeks, weeks turned into months before Kristin saw Draco again or even heard his name. The only time she thought about him was when the flowers were delivered but her mind soon turned to other things. It wasn’t till the rumor of Malfoy house transferring to Draco then gifted to the Minster of Magic and created to become an orphanage that Kristin had finally thought of him again. Draco wasn’t there to hand it over in the Daily Prophet, he wasn’t there for the opening, he wasn’t there for any of the events, he was just a unseen benefactor that provided for it apparently. The only quote or photo from him was to tell them to fill it with happy memories, and a photo of him closing the door in the face of the camera. Kristin and Lizzie and three others were heading to Mystical Manor for a checkup of the boys and girls before most of them were sent to Hogwarts in a couple weeks. Walking through the gates they could easily see why the kids named it Mystical Manor.
You couldn’t tell when the gates were open but as soon as the gates closed behind them the true garden appeared. The once pristine gardens were overgrown with bushes of magical animals, moving as the children played with them. Dragons that blew leaves at the children when they walked by, Demiguise that would disappear and even the Hogwarts mascots were wrapped around a giant castle playhouse weaving around the slides and towers. Children were running around and playing, older teens were relaxing under a tree near the fountain with the newly placed benches.
The Manor itself seemed like a whole new place. Of course the base of the of the Manor was still there but that was about the only thing that was the same. The rooms were now brightly lit, walls filled with bright art and photographs. Even art that the kids must have made was taped along the walls in the entrance way. Long gone were the dark portraits of grumpy old people that glared while you walked by, no matter who you were. There was a small desk with a wizard sitting at it in an alcove off on the side, telling them to go through once they had written their names down and checked in their wands.
Even the drawing room was so much more different than the last time she was here. Kristin was worried about what the memories of entering the home would be like, but she didn’t have much of a problem as the room was filled with even more toys for the children. Kids laughter rang through the halls as the caretakers wrangled the kids but mostly let them burn off all their energy. Any dark thoughts or memories of the place were hard to imagine with so much joy filling up the space.
A couple of the doors off to the side held plaques of what was inside, the group made their way towards the one labeled infirmary. Inside they found the everyday healer getting them all set for the day to help make it easier for them. And then for the next couple hours that is how their day was spent, starting with the oldest and working through the last of the children as it came close to lunch time they were invited to join. Needing no direction Kristin and Lizzie went to the old Malfoy ball room, the room was filled with tables that reminded them of Hogwarts. Rows of tables lined with kids of all ages filled the room, house elves that found themselves free or without master’s to serve were placing food on the tables or dropping off plates to the smaller children.
“This is where I had my first kiss. That corner there. And where you and Draco rudely walked in and yelled at me!” Lizzie teased her best friend when they made their way to the caretakers table.
“Oh! Have you been here before?” Maddy, one of the caretakers that had been giving them a hand throughout the morning asked her while they sat down beside her.
“When I was young. They were..err..family friends.” Lizzie said awkwardly, realizing her mistake of words. But Maddy didn’t flinch and just continued smiling at her which eased any tension that could have built.
“For the record... I was shocked and didn’t expect to be walking in on face eating. I just wanted to see if you guys wanted ice cream. Innocent me.” Kristin defended herself laughing at her friend rolled her eyes at her.
“Clearly one of you had your priorities in order.” Maddy giggled.
“And it was me.” The girls said at the same time, both looked at each other and burst out laughing with Maddy joining in.
“I never saw it before all the changes were made, muggle-born, but they say it has completely changed. I mean clearly more people live here now but it is still such a gorgeous home itself. I don’t think they could have changed everything about it.”
“I think the ambience of the place is what really makes it seem like a different place really. It was so dark and gloomy growing up. Sure it had wealth but it didn’t have the love and joy that it now has.” Lizzie explained to her.
“I get that. I think the greenhouse may be the best place for that. They were debating taking it down but it’s so lovely. They decided to keep it and start to grow food and herbs to sell, maybe give the kids some fun skills to learn.”
“They didn’t take it down?!” Kristin exclaimed, joining the conversation again. Narcissa, her mom and her would spend hours in the greenhouse growing up. Both women teaching Kristin how to be a proper lady, or when her and Draco would sit at the table and do their lessons. As their mothers’ teas turned to late night wine. The adults giggling with each other as Kristin swung happily on the little porch swing at hung down from the ceiling listening to them gossip or talk about the business. It was the only place that the war never seemed to affect. There was never talk of anything sad or dark in the greenhouse, only happy thoughts about pretty things. “Would I be able to go see it? I understand if I can’t.”
“Oh no you can. It should be empty. Only the older students are allowed in and they have classes next so no one will be there.”
Kristin beamed at the idea, nodding to Lizzie she quickly finished the food on her plate and led herself towards the back of the house, passing the now classrooms and out the grand door in the back of the house that led to greenhouse. It was like nothing had ever changed. The flowers bloomed, colors everywhere in an organized mess as she followed the winding stone path towards the gazebo where her old lessons were held. The porch swing was still there. Stepping up she remembered all the good memories left behind all the innocence that stayed in the gazebo as they grew.
“You can drown in all the memories here.” A voice said behind her, spinning around, she saw Draco in a black causal suit, his jacket thrown over his arm as he watched her.
“I was just thinking the same thing. I miss that time. I miss her.” Kristin ended quietly. She felt guilty speaking the words aloud as the tears started to fill her eyes. It was hard to keep it together. She knew her Mother was wrong and on the wrong side, but she loved Kristin endlessly and Kristin loved her. She didn’t know how to separate the two from each other. Was it wrong to miss her? Or was it okay?
“I do too.” Draco told her softly walking up next to, they made their way to the swing and lightly pushed it as they sat in silence for a while.
“What are you doing here?” Kristin asked her old friend as he seemed lost in his thoughts as she was moments before.
“The director was wondering about an outdoor classroom; we were mapping it out. I also sometimes come to help with the kids.” Draco told her softly, his cheeks turning the slightest bit of pink as he brushed his untidy blonde hair out of his eyes. A style that Narcissa would have never allowed him to have his hair, it wasn’t a proper look.
“It’s very kind of you.” Kristin told him, turning to watch her feet swing instead of looking at Draco.
“It’s the least I could do. Most of them are here because of what I joined.” Kristin snapped to look at Draco, his jaw was clenched while he glared in front of him. Her eyes wide as she stared at him unsure how to reply to it. It was true of course but it wasn’t something she expected him to say. “Sorry.” Draco mumbled as he finally looked at her expression.
“It’s alright. It’s honest.” Kristin finally spoke up as they stared at each other. “How have you been doing?” She asked him.
“I can walk through the streets now without causing a scene. So that’s a good thing. I just don’t know what to do now honestly.” Draco told her honestly. He worked so hard in school to actually become something; he knew he was smart. Even getting rid of the huge ego he had in his childhood he knew he had top marks in school, only having to fight against Granger for the top place. But everything he had done seemed to erase anything he could have possibly done.
“You wanted to be an alchemist, why haven’t you followed through with that?” Kristin asked him, she remembered how he would pour over the books over the summer while she would sit beside him in her own books.
“I wasn’t sure if I would be able to or wanted.” Draco spoke softly giving a small shrug, looking at Kristin she could see how defeated he looked.
After years of friendship and whatever happened between them Kristin could read Draco behind the pure-blood mask that he had been trained to put on. She could see how broken he was, he was definitely better than he was during war time but his eyes still had light dark circle underneath them which was covered by magic. His eyes seemed haunted and shallow, but they were glossed over with unshed tears. He did look worse than the last time she saw him at St Mungo’s but he had looked worse. His mask also breaking as he sat beside his friend. This was the person who they shared their darkest secrets too, the two would hide away from Malfoy Manor and wished how they could get away from the war. Ironic they would find themselves in the place they would try escaping from as much as possible.
“You won’t know until you give it a shot. You are earning your place back. With good intentions.” Kristin reached out to wrap her warm hand into Draco cold one. It was a simple gesture that they had done a million times since childhood, a sign of comfort between the two of them whenever it was needed. Even years later they still found the easy comfort within each other, even if everything else between them wasn’t even close to being okay.
“I feel like I’m coming up with excuses. I’m sorry I don’t mean too.” Draco mumbled.
“I don’t think you are. I think you have valid concerns. It’s not like there is a guidebook to entering society again.”
“Would make things easier. I’m still not sure if I have the right to come back. I was wondering if I should have gone with my parents.” Draco confessed squeezing Kristin hand tightly.
“That wouldn’t be smart.” Kristin told him. “You already started to become a better person now that you can make your own decision. If you go back, you will just be throwing everything away again. You’ll be running from your problems.” Kristin said trying not to roll her eyes, she understood that it was easier to run away but after everything that he had done why would he possibly want to go backwards. You couldn’t go backwards with the past that they had. Draco still had so many options open to him if he was just willing enough to see them, instead he wanted to fall back. Kristin couldn’t stand it.
“Kristin! Time to go.” Lizzie voice rang through the greenhouse before she popped up on the other side of a flower bush, her face breaking into a smile when she saw Draco and Kristin sitting there together. It didn’t take long for Lizzie to forgive Draco after the war, her and Kristin got into it soon after they brought up the conversation. Kristin understood where Draco was coming from but it didn’t mean that she forgave him for everything. “Hiya Draco.” She said giving him a grin, leaning against a pole of the gazebo staring at the two, her eyes glancing down to where their hands were intertwined but didn’t say anything. “Nice to see ya. Sorry for having to take Kristin here but sadly we must go back to work.”
“Of course. It was nice to see you both too.” Draco gave her a genuine smile, trying to casual slip his hand out of Kristins without Lizzie noticing. Of course she did but Draco didn’t need to worry about that.
“We will have to get together sometime. Look for my owl.” Lizzie grinned leaning off the pole she grabbed Kristin hand and pulled her up next to her, placing her own against her arm before she dragged her friend off. Kristin gave a wave to Draco as she allowed herself to be dragged along knowing that Lizzie would follow through with having him come to visit.
“Draco?” Lizzie asked raising her eyebrow as they quietly made their way through the walls not wanting to interrupt the classes in session.
“Sad conversation.” Kristin told her shrugging, later tonight she would tell Lizzie more details but there wasn’t much to say. But Lizzie knew her as well as she knew herself sometimes and so she wouldn’t have to say much for her to understand. They already spent hours going over her and Draco during Hogwarts years that Lizzie knew how confusing it was for Kristin to be around him.

It was about two weeks later when Lizzie was running late coming home and Draco on his way. Tops was preparing everything of course, but Kristin was going crazy. She tried to help Tops but she was causing more damage to his dinner than actually helping so he shoved her out of the kitchen. So Kristin found herself puttering around the sitting room, constantly readjusting things that didn’t need it, just to do something. It had been forever since they all had a planned hang out time, and seeing Draco a couple times randomly didn’t help her nerves. It was Lizzie idea to have Draco over and she was supposed to have a half day but found herself stuck and unable to leave work. Kristin completely understood but didn’t mean she couldn’t be upset at her at the same time.
A knock on the door let her know that Draco had arrived, letting Tops know that she would get it she made her way over. Fixing her shirt nervously before swinging the door on putting her best pure-blood face on.
“Draco! Hello.” Kristin greeted him, glad he was dressed as casually as she was. Kristin was unsure if she should have put more of an effort in her outfit choice, but this was Draco and her simple jeans and t-shirt seemed to go with his very muggle look of blacks jeans and a bomber jacket over a black t-shirt as well. His whole look would fit in muggle London without a second glance. Kristin was definably impressed by the change; she had even started to mix muggle clothes into her store which seemed to be a big hit.
“Hey Kristin.” Draco gave her a small smile, a pair of slippers dangled from his hand causing her to laugh. It was stupid, Mother complained how much she hated coming home from work only to feel like she was still at work. So when you came into the house you had to change into slippers, the rule followed even when Father came home and she demanded he followed it. Kristin own fuzzy green slippers warmed her feet.
“Come in. Lizzie is running late but she should be here soon-ish.” Kristin informed him. Both of them made their way into the perfect sitting room. Draco looked around the room, Kristin wasn’t sure what memories filled his head while she watched him as he made his way over to the photo wall.
While most of the house had photos of the past generations in serious portraits Mother wanted a wall of happy memories. Kristin had a hard time even going over to look at the photos, so many were her and her Mother growing up. Friends that were no longer around. After all this time Kristin wasn’t exactly healed from everything. Draco didn’t have the same problems as a soft smile played across his lips while he looked at the photos, plenty had him and his mother along side them. He stopped at one in particular.
Kristin moved forward to actually see it and stood beside him. You could barely tell it was a wizard photo, the subjects in the photograph were completely still. Draco and Kristin had fallen asleep on one of the couches in her home, their legs were intertwined while they were curled up together. Kristin head was on Draco chest her hands gripping Draco shirt was they slept on. Narcissa took the photo and her and Mother gushed over how cute the two of them looked. Because you couldn’t tell that the people in the photograph had red rimmed eyes, you couldn’t tell that Kristin was holding onto Draco for dear life because she was trying to stop the panic attack he was falling into and she was desperate to keep him grounded. His hands wrapped around her tightly as she cried into her arms after seeing the mangled bodies of the family death eaters had attacked earlier that day. But sure, they were cute.
“This was the first night I confessed to anyone that I messed up, that I choose the wrong side.” Draco said reaching out toward the photo, his fingers running lightly across the glass.
“It was the first time I said the words aloud. I think it was the only few times I trusted enough that my voice was safe.” Kristin said nodding to him.
Draco turned to her; eyebrows furrowed while he looked at Kristin “What about with Lizzie?”
“We didn’t exactly ever speak about it, we just kind of… knew we were on the same wavelength. I think we were just too scared. We were playing neutral in a war. I thought I was going to be sent to Azkaban after the war ended, Lizzie too. That’s what we talked about.” Kristin shrugged confessing to Draco, trying to shrug off the secret.
“Why would think you guys would ever go there? You never did anything wrong.”
“But yet we were around the death eaters. We were touching the dark side instead of actively fighting against them.” Kristin told him. She could understand if they did send them to Azkaban, in the end it was McGonagall and Pomfrey that stood up and fought against the idea of sending them. And once Harry Potter stood behind them and defended them, they knew they were finally safe. Children of war, born on the wrong side.
“You were just trying to survive.” Draco exclaimed. “No one should have that held against them.”
“Your life doesn’t equal another. You can’t hurt someone to save yourself and it still be right.” Kristin told him.
“But you never harmed anyone.”
“I healed ones that went on to kill people. Guilt by association.”
“In that case almost everyone should have been sent away. You shouldn’t hold any guilt for any of that.” Draco spoke turning to face her, his hand reaching out towards her. Kristin grabbed it without really thinking about it once again. Their bodies closer together then before as she looked at him, she always almost as tall as Draco was, reaching her free hand to move hair that had fallen into his eyes away.
Kristin knew she should pull away. She could hear her heartbeat in her ears. The way her hands were clamming up. She couldn’t still have feeling for Draco, she buried them long ago and focus on things she could control. They spent years wrapped around each other both in to much pain and broken to be able to hold themselves up, yet alone support another person but both needing each other to keep it together.  They had went on their separate ways, they didn’t need each other anymore. But the more Kristin stared at him the more realized how much she wanted him. How much she wanted to close the space between them and place her lips against his. She knew the feeling well, how many times growing up they had been in this exact same place.
But something felt different this time, Kristin couldn’t figure what it was but she needed Draco. Wasn’t he always her safe place, when he was cruel and arrogant to others, he was sweet and protecting to her. And now that the cruelty seemed to be replaced with a sense of kindness and understanding and maturity, Kristin shouldn’t have to battle with herself to be allowed to like him.
Draco hand rested on her hip pulling her close, their bodies touching while he looked Kristin in the eyes asking if this was okay. Nodding her head slightly she moved closer, so their lips were barely touching. Then they heard a small ‘oof’ a crash and a string of curse words that pulled them apart, looking towards the doorway where Lizzie sat on the floor, the side table toppled over and half of the objects that were on the bookshelf lay around her. The two promptly burst into laugher while Lizzie glared at them but soon joined in. Draco helped her out of the mess while Kristin pulled out her wand and started placing everything back and fixing what had broken.
“I tried sneaking away.” Lizzie complained.
“It didn’t work out so well for you now did it.” Kristin teased, giving Draco a smile chuckling to herself. Her heart still racing unsure what she was thinking.
“Damn table got in the way.”
“Misses Lizzie! Just in time for dinner!” Tops said merrily popping up like he didn’t just hear the commotion that was going on.
“Well least I get food for my pains.” Lizzie said shrugging and she walked towards the dining room.
When they made it the dining room the newest set of Dracos flowers were sitting on the table like they always were, this time a group of yellow roses and baby breath. And at the end of the table sat three place settings and a over the top dinner planned by Tops. Kristin rolled her eyes at the complicated dish but long since learned better than to tell him how unnecessary it was.
“Aren’t you joining us?” Lizzie asked Tops raising an eyebrow. They all turned to look at the small house elf.
“Tops can’t today.” He told them shaking his head, his ears flopping to the sides. “To much to do. I ate already and I must go help Hogwarts.” He informed them. Tops often went to help the other house elves in Hogwarts, while most of the school was back to its pre-war days not everything was back up to par. And since the House elves fought in the Battle of Hogwarts some didn’t make it out alive despite their magic Hogwarts was a big school. Add on to the fact that they were working on two memorials, one outside Hogwarts ground and one inside to stand for the ones lost.
“Well say hello to Winky for us please. And if we don’t see you by the time we go to bed, good night.”
Top nodded his little head and with a pop he was gone. The girls turned towards each other and placed themselves at the table with Draco following suit. They sat in silence for a bit as they loaded up their plates with Tops chicken and about seven different side choices. Not including the pies, he had further down clearly meant for dessert. Guess they knew what they would be eating for the next couple of days.
“Bright.” Draco mumbled staring at the flowers on the table, his fingers playing against some of the pedals. “I don’t see you guys’ as yellow people though.”
“Not really. But these are the flowers from the bet.” Lizzie said shrugging. Yellow may not have been their favorite color but they were still pretty and made the room look nice.
“The bet?” Draco questioned giving her a look.
“The bet you and I made about something a while ago and I won. My prize was you sending me flowers weekly.” Kristin spoke up, right about the fact Draco had no idea that he was still sending her flowers. She didn’t know if that upset her or not, she couldn’t blame him when she didn’t even know what the bet was about.
“Oh yeah! The jumping out of the tree.” Draco burst out laughing at the apparent memory.
“Jumping out of tree?” Lizzie gave Draco and Kristin a quizzed look when Kristin seemed to finally remember.
“We were arguing about who would be braver about jumping out of the tree we were in. Who would climb the highest and jump. Kristin won.” Draco said smiling.
“I broke my leg!” Kristin yelled. Now remembering that the focus was on the broken leg part of the story. Draco had wanted to run to the house to get his Mum but Kristin face was full of tears and she wouldn’t let him leave her alone on the ground in the woods. Draco had carried her all the way to the house, her face in his neck at each movement sent pain through her leg. It didn’t take long for Narcissa to heal her leg but Draco stayed with her and when Kristin woke the next morning a small bunch of handpicked flowers sat on her night table and the flowers never stopped.
“Children!” Lizzie mocked shaking her head at the two of them.
“Yeah.. we were fifteen.” Kristin said her cheeks were pink in embarrassment about how dumb it really was. Honestly, she could have fixed it herself but they both had left their wands back at the manor without thinking about it.
“Okay idiots then!” Lizzie laughed at them, causing the other two to join in soon after.
“So…How have you been doing Draco?” Lizzie asked once the laughter stopped and the room became silent, not an awkward silence more of the fact they we focused on their dinner one.
“I have been good. I start vocational school to become an Alchemist next month. I have been out of practice so I would like to recatch up on those skills.”
“I never got how you found that class enjoyable. I wouldn’t have been able to get into it If I tried and it just seems way too hard.”
Draco laughed at the comment. “Lizzie.. you want to be a healer. You are actively becoming one right now. It’s just as hard!”
“Not even close!” Kristin argued back. Sure, being a Healer did take a fair amount of brains and skill to become but it had nothing compared to what Draco was going for. Where the girls would be training and learning for years to come, they could be in the field. While Alchemy you had to just study alone for years before you ever could think of actually putting your skills into training. It took so much knowledge that very few people could successfully go into as a profession and even less came known for it before they fizzled out.
“Seriously! I don’t even think I could do it in a daydream yet alone spend a lifetime doing it. I would simply give up and live in a box.” Lizzie yelled laughed at them.
“A box?” Draco asked a soft smile on his face when he watched his friend nod vigorously.
“Oh yes. Maybe a nice cardboard one that I could pretty pictures on after I have a mental breakdown from the amount of stress I would have.” Lizzie agreed, giving him a smile as she sat back pulling apart a roll.
“From the daydream of doing the job?” Kristin wondered aloud.
“Daydream of course. I would be a permanent resident at St Mungo’s if I worked with it.”
“Well I’m glad that you are safe from harm with your healer career choice.” Draco said, his face in mock seriousness when he stared at her before all three started laughing. Kristin was shaking her head at them, remembering how much it was just like old times.
“Me too. Plus we get to travel soon. Which I’m excited for. I haven’t been able to do all that much since practical’s.” Lizzie informed Draco, her excitement clear. Lizzie travelled around a lot before she started working. Her mom would take her for summer round trips to every country, they even found themselves in the muggle parts adventuring throughout the years.
This picked up Draco interest, he loved hearing Lizzies stories about the world when she would return. He never really got to go many places as his parents went to thrilled with the idea. “Where do you get to go this time?”
“America, New York to be more exact. There is going to be a convention of sorts. New practices and spells that could work better in the field.” Lizzie explained to him.
“That sounds exciting.”
“Your parents moved to New York, right? How are they liking it? I have only talked to you Mom a little bit and mainly about business.” Kristin asked. They had a conversation over owl before she moved over there, they agreed that she can gladly take over the shops and be the main person in charge for them. It was a great stress reliever honestly. Where Tops was helping, Narcissa having to take a step back and training Kristin found herself running thin the last couple years trying to keep up.
“Bit of a change but they are adjusting well enough. Mum is running your boutiques over there obviously and from what I gathered is that she loves wizarding fashion over there, so she is fitting in nicely and really happy with what she is doing. Dad is just supporting her with it right now.” His eyes filled with a sort of sadness when talking about his mother. He clearly missed her and with her being so far away Draco didn’t know how to take it. After everything that they had been through it was a loss of security that she was so far away. For him and for her. Draco couldn’t be sure that his Mum was still okay at the end of the night with her so far away. And he still cared for his dad. But where his mum had cared for him and never truly followed the Dark Lord his dad sunk deeper in himself when everything ended. Where he was terrified of the Dark Lord since he wasn’t on top this time around, he still believed in his ways. The only reason he wasn’t in a cell was because of his son and wife but Draco found it harder and harder to be around him when his values started to change. It wasn’t the same man he looked up to as a child, he was weak and feeble now in his eyes. He was almost disgusted by his father now. And his mum had to help take care of him. He understands she did it out of love for his father, but he couldn’t stand around and watch for long.
“The stores are doing really well since she moved over there. They defiantly needed a full time person to make them thrive.”
“I’m surprised that you didn’t go with them.” Lizzie spoke up, not realizing the tension in the question that she asked. Kristin and Lizzie never got around to having the conversation about the day at the gazebo, they had been working opposite shifts so there was never a good time.
“I was debating it, but someone said it would have been running away from my problems.” Draco said looking over at Kristin, who just shrugged with indifference. She stood by the statement that he needed to work on things over here before running across the ocean to just start new.
“Of course, she did.” Lizzie said rolling her eyes at her best friend, she would see it that way.
Draco raised an eyebrow at the girl, the two girls almost always agreed on everything. It’s how they got through the war together in more than less one piece. “Don’t you think so too?”
“Nope. I think starting over is never a bad thing. You ended your ties here with dignity and redemption and you are just moving so you can create a new path for yourself. I think that it an incredibly brave thing for a person to do. Not running away at all.”
“Saying sorry to a few people doesn’t equal redemption.” Kristin spoke up, her voice short and sharp when she rolled her eyes at her best friend.
“No but meaning it does. And that was only a start for what he did.” Lizzie said defending Draco like he wasn’t sitting across the table from her.
“I’m not sure what I was doing would be enough. I wasn’t quite sure what I could do to make up for my crimes.” Draco spoke up he wasn’t completely sure how to right his wrongs, but he tried to find the things that was possible for right now.
“There will always be people you think you can’t be forgiven no matter what you do.” Kristin told him, she didn’t mean for it to sound so harsh but she didn’t know how else to word it.
“I don’t expect everyone to forgive me. I am aware of the things I did to people.” Draco told her to defend himself.
“I never meant to apply that you didn’t.” Kristin said trying to correct herself but at the raised voices clearly she wasn’t doing a very good job at it.
“Sure, sounded like it.”
“Well, I didn’t.”
“Does anyone want another roll?” Lizzie asked, her eyes widened as she watched the two of them, trying to defuse the tension in the room.
“I’m sorry that I got that impression then. Maybe it was just how it was said or how I took it.”
“I’m sorry that it came across that way.”
The tension in the air was thick between them, Draco and Kristin had identical faces glaring at the plates in front of them. Lizzie let out a little giggle at the time they both reach out to stab a piece of chicken and then both roughly put their forks down before picking up their wines and taking sips. They mirrored each other exactly.
“What?” Kristin asked, still glaring. Lizzie threw her hands up in a defenseless position and had a huge smile on her face. “Oh, I’m not involving myself in this.”
“In what? Dinner? You are the one who planned it.” Kristin argued back, raising her eyebrow.
“Do you want me to leave? I never meant to interrupt your life. I will go.” Draco said, his ears turning a light shade of pink as he got up from the kitchen chair.
“Of course, I want you here Draco. I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t want to be. I just meant that Lizzie planned the thing so clearly she involved. Plus we are all friends here.”
“We were friends. Things could have changed since then. Everything else has.” Draco brought up.
“It wasn’t on us that those things changed.” Kristin spit out. She didn’t know what was wrong with her. It was like she wanted to fight with Draco. The tension building in her and all the anger that she had. He was one of her best friends and he left her behind for some man who was evil reincarnated.
“How many times do I have to say I am aware of that. Why are you one of the people who can’t see that I have been honest? Out of all the people in my life you are the hardest to prove that I have changed! You are the run I came too telling you all my secrets and how much I regretted my choices.” Draco spoke, his voice rising out of anger or defeat or something he didn’t know what it was exactly.
“Oh I’m out of here.” Lizzie mumbled before slipping out of the room quickly.
“Because you chose the wrong side! And it wasn’t by force. It wasn’t because you had no choice. You truly believed in all of it. Every last thing that was said about blood purity and how we were somehow better than others because of it! And not just my blood but there was power and wealth too! Others switched sides, people whose whole lives were filled with hate and yet they rose above it. And you gladly stood by.”
“I know that! I know everything I did wrong. Not just in the war but the years of Hogwarts and even before then. I was an arrogant little shit. I am trying to make things right and I know some things can never be fixed but I am trying to fix everything I can. Why can’t you see that?”
“It’s not that I don’t see that. It’s the fact that it should never have been a thing in the first place. It took you straight up trying to murder someone to see that you were in the wrong. It should have never gotten to that point. You weren’t just trying to stay alive; you stood proudly on that side with that stupid little smirk on your face. You would play sweet with me and Lizzie and then just do a one eighty and become this awful person. So which was it, who are you? Because they were always so fucking different! I never knew what feelings the real thing or who you really were. Just constant whiplash.”
“Both. They were always both me. It wasn’t black and white, everything I said to you and all that we felt was true. The cruel side was there too. But I’m not the same anymore. I grew up. I put myself in an awful place for some sort of power and learned how wrong I was. You had always made me want to be better, a better student just a better person in general. And I was too weak to carry that out when you weren’t around me. It took me far too long to see that who I was around you, was the person that I wanted to be all the time. I hated myself and how you would look at me, I could see how much I was hurting you every time I switched to the other part of me. And for a while I couldn’t figure out why until I finally realized. But I couldn’t rely on you to make sure I stayed on track. I had to do it for myself or else I was never going to become who I wanted and it would have always been on you. And that wouldn’t have been fair.”
“Well good for you! I’m glad you did.” Kristin knew that words were coming out as spiteful but she really did mean it. “But how do you know that you won’t start believing it when time has passed and the war isn’t fresh in your thoughts. When you realize that you miss the faux power you had over people. How do you know that you won’t become like the old Draco?”
Their faces were red as they screamed across the room at each other, both unsure if they were actually saying anything at all or just letting the build up of anger and stress consume them. Kristin hands were in fist, as tears of anger spilled over. Each time they yelled at each other it would pull them closer, never had they ever let out this much anger. Raised to speak rationally and calmly to others and never show this much emotion, it was almost unheard of. And yet here they were screaming at each other.
But the way Draco hand reached out and wrapped around Kristin waist and pulled her against him and crashing their lips against each other. It wasn’t sweet like a first kiss should have been, it wasn’t like how you would imagine such a build up like theirs would be. It was wet as Kristin tears were staining her cheeks, Draco’s rough hands on her hips pulling her as close as possible. His anger and hurt pouring into a kiss as she kissed him back. Even Kristin hands were pinned between them unable to move them. It wasn’t passion that led them to this. And yet it was exactly how it should have been.
It was a comfort in a strange way. The fact that could be releasing their fears and anger with each other and still have them to come back to. It was a lifetime of secret late-night talks, hiding out in the woods, to quidditch games and balls, to the trauma of a war and the fear of death. Healing from everything they had been through to becoming better people for themselves to find each other again and still be the safety net for each other. It was years of falling for each other but always being just out of reach.
Draco pulled away only slightly to rest his head on her forehead to look into her eyes. Their breathing labored, chest falling fast as they stood together trying to get air. “You believe in me.” Draco told her. “Just like you always have but now I get to prove it to you. Let me prove it.”
Once again a click interrupted them, Draco hands stayed around Kristin when they turned their heads to where Lizzie stood a camera in hand.
“What?! You are going to need it for the wall. The first kiss needs to be in the love story.” Lizzie defended herself causing Kristin to roll her eye but the way Lizzie smiled she could tell how happy she was for them.
Kristin knew that they needed to work on things still, everything wasn’t magically healed with one fight and a kiss but it was a start. And she was more than willing to figure it all out with Draco finally.

The Attic
"Freddie we are not looking at our old school photos."
"Come on Melia, it'll be fun!" Fred replied, his smirk growing larger.
"Yeah, super fun Melia." George butted in.
A light blush crept onto Fred's cheeks at George's emphasis on his nickname for me. They turned to each other with knowing smirks. Nothing good was going to come out of whatever they said next.
"Too scared I'll see what you casted on the back of Fred's photo eh?" George laughed.
I narrowed my eyes at him, "I'll have you know-"
"Was it a love spell? Oh wait! I bet it was 'Amelia and Fred' written in a heart!" He laughed.
"George stop." Fred replied, rolling his eyes as his cheeks remained their red hue.
"No George, keep it going. We'll see just how well you sleep tonight." I responded.
"Sleep? I doubt I'll get any with you sharing Fred's bed next to me."
"That's it I'll--"
"And we're going!" Fred jumped up, grabbing my arm and pulling me out the door.
"Remember kids, always use a con-"
Fred slammed the door behind him. He casted a quick glance at me, "Ignore him Melia. He's just trying to take the piss."
He led up the stairs, his grip still loosely on the wrist. I looked at all the family portraits on the wall as we climbed higher and higher in the burrow. All the Weasleys smiling and laughing in each one. My eyes lingered on one of Charlie Weasleys last day at Hogwarts. His eyes crinkled as he had his arms around two other Gryffindor boys. It took extra effort for me to turn away from his captivating features.
"It's okay Freddie. I know he's just trying to get under our skin." I responded, the incident already forgotten.
George loved to make constant jokes about how close Fred and I are. Despite being best friends with both of the twins, Fred and I quickly bonded as first years. I met the boys on the platform. My mom, a muggle, was struggling to figure out how to get me onto nine and three quarters. Molly noticed her while the twins noticed me. The Weasleys came to both of our aid that day. We chatted the entire way to Hogwarts and have been friends ever since. Despite looking identical, down to the freckle, Fred had a softer approach that allowed me to open up. Without him I'd probably never had made friends or start to come out of my shell. We're in our final year and closer than ever.
I jolted back into the moment when Fred unlocked and pulled me through the attic door. I glanced around the room. There was furniture draped under blankets, an older clock in the corner, and trunks of all shapes and colors spread out. Fred was assessing each trunk. He ventured further into the room.
"Over here! I found it!"
The trunk was a burgundy red faded with patches on the top. Fred went to open it but the top wouldn't move. He tried a few more times but the lock only jingled in response.
"You wouldn't happen to have our wand on you would you?" He asked sheepishly.
"Sorry," I cringed slightly. Knowing that I should keep my wand on me, a wizards greatest form of protection, but I have an awful habit of forgetting.
"No worries. I'll run downstairs and look for the key. I'll be right back," Fred said as he went towards the door, "Promise!"
As he turned out the door he closed it, on habit, where it clicked shut.
"Oh god."
I ran towards the door, trying to open it. The knob turned towards the right, not turning all the way.
"Fred?" I asked loudly, trying the knob again and again.
"Freddie?" I called again, still not getting a response.
A sigh escaped me as I paced around the room. Fred said he'd be right back. I looked around again at all the stuff, trying to stay busy until Fred returned. My gaze kept returning to the family clock, each time the hands ticking further and further. I eventually got up and started walking around the maze of stuff. My fingers skimmed an old coat when the door creaked open.
I started to walk back towards the door, my view blocked by a stack of luggage. "Freddie! Finally you're-"
"Not Freddie," a smirking Charlie responded, right as I turned straight into his chest.
I felt his strong hands grip my upper arms, slightly slightly down as he leaned in, his mouth near my ear.
"Now what are you doing up in the attic Amelia? The boys torturing you again?"
I felt my hair stand on end, his voice sending chills down my spine.
I struggled to get my words out, his scent overpowering me, "Charlie... you're home."
"For the weekend," he pulled away slightly, gazing down at me, "Have my annual meetings with the ministry."
"Oh," I blandly responded. Hyper aware of his hands still on my arms.
"You've grown up Mil," his gaze spreading from my head to my toes, "Definitely not the girl I last saw a few years ago."
My toes curled under the weight of his stare. I didn't know what to stay back to him. Was his tone... approving?
"Beautiful," he murmured, finally letting go of my arms to take a few steps back. Finger tips grazing his lips, his gaze never me. His eyes would dip down to my body and back again.
"It's good to see you." I said, attempting to cut the tension.
My body was growing warm under his stare, my cheeks slightly heating.
"Miss me Mils?" He smirked dropping his fingers from his lips. He twirled his ring around his finger.
My cheeks flared. I took a step back, bumping into a stack of trunks behind me.
"Of course, I miss all you Weasleys."
Charlie took a step towards me, hand still moving his ring.
"All of us hm? What about just me? How much did you miss only me?"
My throat went dry. I struggled to swallow. I fiddled with the bottom of my jumper.
"Well it's been years Charlie... " I trailed off, hoping my silence would answer his question.
Charlie hummed in response. He gaze remained on my face as he moved a piece of my hair behind my ear.
"It's amazing what changes in the course of a few years."
His finger trailed to the side of my neck.
"Oh yeah?" I questioned, my breathing quickening.
"How old are you now Millie?" His past nicknames for me slipping out.
"Eighteen."
His fingers remained on the side of my neck, slowly curving towards the back. I felt frozen under his touch.
"I always thought you were cute Millie, but now... " His grip loosely circled around my throat, tilting my head up, "You've matured. Look at how stunning you are, look at your body."
I couldn't tare my eyes from his as he grabbed my hips and sat me on the trunks.
I've always had a crush on Charlie. He was always handsome and time had been good to him. He had a slight stubble and a deep dimple in his right cheek. His eyes were a blazing blue, pinning me to my spot. His grip tightened a bit.
"What do you think? Still find me 'handsome'?" He grinned, referencing to my childhood when the boys slipped me veritaserum and it kicked in right as Charlie walked through the door.
My cheeks fully flamed, "I- "
"And don't lie Millie, I know you used to have a crush on me."
I swallowed, attempting to buy time, "I've always liked you Charlie."
He leaned in, brushing his lips against my ear, "I know."
I could tell he was smirking without having to see him. He slid my legs apart to come stand in between them. Our bodies were centimeters apart, I could feel the heat radiating off of him.
"Charlie, what are you doing?" I whispered.
"Fulfilling your fantasies I'd imagine."
His lips brushed over my neck a few times before he firmly pressed a kiss into my throat. It all felt so much. His hand around my throat, his lips, the fabric of his jeans against my thighs. My shorts slide further up my legs as I grabbed his arms.
"This isn't- we shouldn't- "
Charlies response was to press our bodies firmly together, high grip tight against my throat.
"If you don't want me to Amelia I will stop right now. Do you want me to stop?" He said firmly.
No. I've wanted this for so long. Despite my budding crush on Fred, I've pined after Charlie for years. Caught up here, in secret, our bodies pressed against each other... I couldn't fathom the thought of him walking away. I was on fire for him.
I shook my head no, begging him with my eyes to continue. Charlie got the message. He pressed his lips gently against the corner of mine. He pulled back, searching my gaze for any sense of hesitancy. Seeing none, he finally, finally, kissed me. His pressed his lips against mine again and again until his tongue swiped across my lips. My lips opened in surprise as he he began to explore my mouth. My grip tightened in the front of his shirt, bringing him as close to me as possible.
As Charlie kissed me I couldn't get over how long I've dreamed about this, fantasied about this. Charlie had no idea how right he was when he guessed that.
"Charlie, please" I gasped between kisses, "more."
With full permission Charlie didn't hold back. Mouth moved between my lips to my throat, leaving deep purple marks in his wake. His hands began at my waist to where he moved to my breasts. He gave me a slight squeeze, causing my back to arch into him. Our pelvis' finally met. Charlie was hard in his jeans, grabbing my hips to press us harder together. I felt so overwhelmed. No man had ever touched me this way, no man had ever kissed me this way.
Charlie's hands slid under my shirt and worked their way towards my breasts.
"No bra Mills? Now I know you knew'd I'd be home."
My cheeks flared. His fingers pulled my nipples taunt, cupping me again to create friction.
"Oh," I gasped.
"How does that feel Millie? Me touching you... I could touch you more if you want."
My body flamed, "Please."
Charlie gripped the edge of my leggings, dragging them down as he went back to my neck.
"Has anyone ever touched you like this?" He asked.
I shook my head no, not able to make the words come out of my mouth.
"How?" His gaze connected to mine as he slide my leggings and underwear off of my feet, "You are absolutely breathtaking Amelia."
I felt my entire body flush. Any trace of shyness, worry, or fear dissipated at his words. Charlie made me feel wanted and beautiful. He made me feel seen.
I pulled him up to me for another kiss. Charlie rubbed my cheek, connecting our gazes.
"Let me make you feel good Millie."
I answered him by pulling off my sweater. Completely naked to him he gaze explore my entirety. Right when I was starting to feel shy Charlie pulled his shirt off, kicking off his shoes and jeans in the process. Left in just his underwear he dropped to his eyes, level with my sex. His hands spread me apart, gripping my inner thighs. I felt my breathing go uneven as he gave me one last look before his tongue swiped over my clit.
One hand grabbed the trunk while the other gripped into his hair, "Merlin, Charlie... don't stop."
This only encouraged Charlie. He tongue swiped over me again and again while he used one finger to push into me.
My vision began to blur at just how good this felt. I didn't know sex was, or could be, like this. I never wanted this feeling to end.
"You're so wet Millie... I'm going to add another finger."
Charlie added another feeling, stretching me further. Merlin, touching myself had never felt this good. The combination of Charlies tongue mixed with his fingers was pushing me over the edge.
"Charlie, I'm going to- " I felt myself tighten around his fingers. He kept licking my clit, pushing me through my orgasm. As he withdrew his fingers I took a deep breath.
Charlie sucked his fingers, standing up. He gave me a wink as he met my gaze, "You taste so good Millie."
My gaze widened a bit as he pushed his underwear down his legs.
"I can't wait to feel you around me, so wet and tight... begging for my cock."
My body started to burn all over again. I needed all of him and then some more. I leaned up to kiss him as he aligned himself up to me.
"This might hurt a little," He whispered.
"It's okay Charlie. I want you."
I gripped his arm as he began to push into me. I felt him enter me as he began to stretch me.
"Fuck. You're so tight Millie. You feel amazing."
Charlie pressed his lips to my neck, sucking on my sensitive skin as he filled me to the brim. I felt a slight pinch, a small burn, and then... euphoria.
"Oh! Oh! Yes, please, please."
"Is that good?" Charlie asked, his breath hot on my skin. He continued to pump in and out, going harder and harder each time.
"Don't stop Charlie, please."
Charlie pushed harder, connecting our lips as he raced his release.
"Fuck," I heard him whisper under his breath as he leaned away to watch where we were connected. His breathing deepened and I could tell he was getting closer.
I ran my hands up his chest as I pressed a few kisses against his throat.
"Millie I'm going to cum." He pumped faster, "Are you? Can I?"
"Yes, yes, I have the protective charm."
He grunted. The sound of our skin meeting and heavy breaths filling the attic. Charlie reached down, lightly rubbing my clit. I felt myself clench around him. Our breathing grew faster as we we both reached our release. Charlie collapsed slightly into me, pressing a final kiss to my neck. He pulled over of me, grabbing my cheek to meet his lips to mine.
We began to collect ourselves, pulling on our pieces of clothing while stealing kisses.
"What are you doing up in the attic anyways" He asked, slipping on his final shoe.
I couldn't stop the laugh that escaped me. Charlie smirked in response.
"I was about to ask you the same thing."
He helped me off the trunk, giving me another peck, "You really are so beautiful Millie."
Even after our intimate moment, I couldn't help the light blush that settled on my cheeks.
I pulled on my shoes and right as I stood up I heard the steps to the attic creak.
"Melia! I found the- Charlie! You're home!" Fred said, hopefully not noticing a thing. "What are you doing up here with Melia?"
Charlie and I shared a look, a giggle on my lips and a smirk on his.

The bridesmaid
Chapter one
It had been a beautiful ceremony. You hadn’t really expected anything less from Fleur and you couldn’t believe that you were witness to such an amazing day, let alone that Fleur had asked you to be one of her bridesmaids.
You had been friends with Bill and Charlie since you met at Hogwarts. They had helped you to find the cursed vaults and supported you when you discovered the truth about your brother.
Through Bill, you had met Fleur and the two of you had grown close over time. She even knew that you used to have a teenage crush on Bill when the two of you had gotten drunk on nettle wine one night and exchanged secrets. You had even been one of the first people to come to her side when Bill was attacked by Fenrir Greyback.
You and Charlie, however, had grown apart after he had moved to Romania. His responses to your letters, once frequent, were now few and far between. You could feel him distancing himself from you and you weren’t sure why.
You took at seat at an empty table to rest your feet and watched him dance with one of Fleur’s Veela cousins. You felt a twinge of jealousy in the pit of your stomach, but you distracted yourself by pouring some pumpkin juice into your glass.
“I always thought it would be you and Bill getting married,” Molly sighed, sitting down next to you, “You seemed so close when he would bring you home to visit.”
“No, no, we’re just good friends, I’m very happy for him and Fleur,” you smiled at Molly before taking a sip of your drink.
“Yes, and you’re in love with Charlie,” Molly hummed.
You spluttered and looked at her wide-eyed.
“If it makes you feel better, he loves you too,” Molly smiled, patting your shoulder.
“Molly –“ You began to protest.
“Ginny, dear,” Molly waved and quickly walked over to her daughter who had turned away and started walking in the other direction.
You chuckled and looked back over to Charlie and the Veela. He was looking over at you with a sad smile. You watched him whisper into his dancing partner’s ear and walk over to you. You poured him a glass of juice and handed it over to him as he sat down.
“So, what does my mother have to say for herself?”
“I should have been the one marrying Bill and that you’re in love with me. You know, the usual!” You laughed, taking another sip of your drink.
“Y/N…” he whispered, turning in his chair to face you.
“Charlie?”
Charlie didn’t respond. Instead he silently downed his drink and rose to his feet. He held out a hand to you with a smile.
“Dance with me?”
You took his hand and let him lead you to the dance floor. He spun you into his arms and you started to sway gently.
He rested his head against yours and whispered into your ear, “I am.”
“Am what?” You asked, pulling back and looking into his eyes. You needed to hear him say it.
“I am in love with you.”
Before you realised what you were doing, you were kissing him. You gripped onto him with everything you had, and he held onto you tightly in return.
It was the sound of screaming that eventually made you spring apart, and you both ran over in time to hear Kingsley Shacklebolt’s Patronus say the words – “They are coming.”
Chaos descended but Charlie didn’t let go of your hand as the two of you ran to join his family.
He didn’t let go of your hand as you watched Hermione and his brother escape with a stranger who Charlie would later tell you was Harry Potter in disguise.
He didn’t let go of your hand as you all took out your wands and prepared to fight.
“Y/N!” Bill shouted over to you, “Will you take Fleur to safety?”
“Bill, no!” Fleur protested, “I want to stay and fight.”
“Fleur, please,” Bill pleaded with his new wife.
Fleur glared at him but decided to abide his wishes. You squeezed Charlie’s hand and finally let go without looking at him. You walked over to Fleur with a sad smile and took her hand in yours.
You looked back at Charlie before you disapparated to Shell Cottage

What are some of your scenarios to fall asleep to? 👀
Ahhhh I’m glad you asked !! Also please feel free to share some of yours they can be specific or vague idc I’m in desperate need
I will be going into heavy detail because I can’t help myself I’m sorry and I will put in both normal ones and Harry Potter ones
Also this is just like one big ramble I’m sorry I got too excited I literally turned into that Tik tok sound where it’s like ‘you’re asking me about my theories? I’ve waited years for someone to ask me about my theories’
Update - I think I’m just going to keep updating this as well when I think of new ones because I keep forgetting some
My most recent one is a royalty one where they’re like royalty but in their really prestigious and royal school they were academic rivals and did not get along and after school they like try to go their separate ways until a couple years later their parents force them into an arranged marriage for like the good of the country or whatever I don’t really care!! You can take it wherever you want from there but in case you were interested in mine he fell for her first and kinda gave up on the enemies thing pretty early on but she still made it clear he wasn’t her favourite person and she despised the situation and there is still constant teasing until she meets his sister or friend or whoever who says that they can’t believe how happy he is with them and she feels so bad because she thinks he deserves better and ends up being much meaner to him because she’s an idiot who can’t express her emotions and he gets angry at her because she’s being super mean after they were just starting to get along and they have a big argument and are forced to talk about their feelings and then I can never decide whether they actually like each other when they get married, I feel like either way is fun
I have a thing for royalty so my other one is literally just princess x stable boy and you can honestly take that wherever you want but I will tell you where I took it for some ✨inspiration✨ so I don’t have my drivers license and get really bad driving anxiety so I self projected and made her terrified of riding horses right (I’m so smart I know) and he is like trying to help her ride the horse and feel comfortable and like obviously they end up in love but I created drama because she sneaks out to his birthday party (!!) but his friends don’t like her because they just think she’ll be a snob but he obviously defends her but like it’s a perfect opportunity for a bit of an innocent princess as well
My personal favourite is the two co stars falling in love and like thinking about doing all those stupid interviews from like buzzfeed and all that and I personally love the trying foods from different places thing (like making them try fairy bread - because I’m from Australia and we aren’t that cultured and being mad when they don’t like it because it is my favourite food) and it’s great because i can make the guy any actor I am currently obsessed with 😭 but also like the red carpet opportunities and interviews and fan reactions and it’s very fun also this keeps my brain very busy because I like making it as realistic as possible and figuring out the actors timeline so I can match the story up with it, it’s always really intense, also if you want inspiration for what moving they’re staring in I always go for the live action version of tangled even if I don’t look anything like rapunzel
Another fun one is where one of them is in a band and you have a friend who is dating one of the other members but you don’t like the band and you’re not shy in letting the other members know that and it turns into an enemies to lovers thing but I haven’t really developed it because halfway through I ended up changing it with the fact that they befriend one of the members and like fall for them but the band member like ‘gets around’ and it makes them jealous until they drunkingly confess it made them jealous this one’s a bit of a mess and is tipping into a 2012 wattpad story but it was how I got back into my 5sos phase two years ago because I felt icky about them but I’m still a slut for Calum 😭
Another one I love is moving abroad to study or whatever (idk I just always need a reason to be in America/Uk because there’s no one here in australia) and you make friends with someone who turns out to be related to someone really famous (insert whoever you want) and you meet them and you think they’re the hottest person you’ve ever seen and you get drunk to gain confidence to talk to them and you’re like unashamedly flirting with them and they think it’s cute and you’re funny but the whole little plot twist is that you don’t know they’re famous (famous people love that, trust me, I have about 10 wattpad stories in my library that can prove this) !! And the don’t believe you don’t know they’re famous !! Anyways I took it in a sugar daddy direction but each to their own!
Specifically for Harry Potter though, you ask?
Currently I am obsessed with Regulus Black and for about the past two weeks I’ve been obsessed with the idea of James potter sibling x regulus black enemies to lovers story and then about a week ago I found an actually good wattpad story about it?!?! (I have recommended it here with warnings but I really encourage you to read it if you’re not a minor) but you can also do your own version because I am still doing my own version and will continue to do my own version tonight even if I am obsessed with the wattpad one !! Currently I am up to post Hogwarts and her and regulus are trying to defeat Voldemort and regulus tells her that Peter is going to betray James and so ofc she tells James but James is like ‘how to do you even know this??’ And he is so afraid and gets angry at her and it’s really dramatic and she tells him she’s dating regulus and then he gets super mad at her because she’s dating like one of the most well known and loyal death eaters (even if regulus is sneakily trying to destroy Voldemort) and because he didn’t tell her and it’s very dramatic
My favourite Sirius black idea is also a James potters sibling one, but I never have any good ideas for it and just end up self projecting so if anyone has any ideas, I am begging you, please tell me !!!
My other Sirius black one is one I’ve been working on for like the last 4 years of my life and I probably should write it but who knows, but basically it’s a 10 things I hate about you x Harry Potter story where reader is about a year or so older than the marauders and she is like Kat Stratford (for people who haven’t watched it the best way to describe her is just an angry early 2000s feminist who is like anti dating and fun (kinda)) but she is Lily Evans sister!! And so Lily gets fed up of James constantly asking her out and makes an offhand comment that she’ll date him when her sister goes on a date with someone and James is like really?!? And Lily is like ‘sure’ because she knows her sister will never date anyone at Hogwarts so James tells the marauders and Remus is like ‘if anyone can take her on a date, it’s Sirius’ and Sirius is like ‘no, I’m stupid but not that stupid’ and James is like ‘please I’ll pay you’ and Sirius is easily bribed so he tries to get her to go on a date with him and like she doesn’t until she does and then finds out he only did it because James paid him but then they fall in love? Basically just 10 things I hate about you lol
My next one is with Draco Malfoy and all it is is that reader comes from a pure blood family and they’ve known each other since they were babies and it’s like basically destined they get married but she gets like really upset when he gets the mark which makes for a good cuddling and crying scene and like idk people are probably more creative than me but I just like reimagining scenes from hp but with this new character so like Poa when she gets angry at him about buckbeak or the bathroom scene (maybe she duels Harry?) and she’s so upset about Draco and comforts him, or helping him in sixth year and comforting him or the quidditch scene in the fifth book (weird note, but I’ve always headcannoned that my original character finds out about dumbledores army but doesn’t say anything and like the da knows she knows but she doesn’t tell Draco or maybe Draco finds out and gets angry at her?)
My other one is another Draco malfoy one where James and Lily live and she’s Harry’s younger sister (and Voldemort isn’t a thing) but like there’s still stereotypes and beliefs and such and like it’s obviously enemies to lovers and maybe they get prefect duties together ? (I am a sucker for this trope in Harry Potter) but then when they do date they try to hide it but Harry finds out but doesn’t say anything until they get into a fight at home and he is like ‘well at least I’m not fucking Draco malfoy behind everyone’s back) (in my head they aren’t fucking because they’re still in Hogwarts but you get the idea) and James and Lily are just like ‘WHAT?!’ Like idk I just think it’s funny imagining James and Lily finding out their kid is dating Draco and Lucius and narcissus finding out Draco is dating a potter - so many possibilities!
Update 6.10.21
I also have one for Charlie Weasley !! And basically you’re friends with the twins and like you go your whole Hogwarts life with the biggest crush on Charlie but like he low key doesn’t even know who you are and you want to become a healer and then after Hogwarts there is a position in Romania and you take it because you know Charlie’s there and at first he is like hmmm I think I know you and you explain you’re friends with the twins and obviously he falls in love with you I also took it in a nsfw direction where it’s like major innocence kink because Charlie is just such a dom to me and he like teaches you everything but he makes sure you’re happy and safe and it’s not really like serious sex you’re both just having fun and he kinda introduces you to dom/sub dynamics but you can do whatever is most comfortable

Our Time To Bloom
Chapter 7: The Serch Bythol
Tumblr media
<Previous Chapter  - All Chapters - Masterlist
Summary: Two months after the war, the couple is more distant than ever. Kate  accompanies her grandfather on a trip to Ireland, where her past and  present will collide in unexpected ways. Charlie stays in Romania with a decision to make: will he follow her and uncover all unsaid things? Romance/Drama /Mystery
Rating: Mature
Pairing: Charlie Weasley/Kate Williams (hphm mc, original female character) established relationship
7th, July, 1998
Hours later, after dropping off Kate at the station, Charlie perched himself against a wooden fence at the dragon sanctuary. Lost in thought, he observed as Soule, an older Romanian Longhorn, stretched its wings in the air. The dragon flew in circles, pirouetting through the clouds with the bravest birds joining in its dance.
What a coward you have been, mate, not to join in. And what a fool! You wanted to go! You still do... Bernard has both great humour and profound wisdom, maybe he was the right person to talk to. If you want to talk... Simply trying to pronounce Fred’s name out loud makes your throat close up.
Soule walked past the Sun creating his silhouette in the wind for an instant.
A twinge in his knee made him hiss, and suddenly the smell of smoke invaded his nostrils.
‘It’s normal in the sanctuary,’ he reminded himself, but he couldn’t help but find himself on Hogwarts’ ground, lying on the stones and feeling that same smell.
He clung tightly to the fence, unable to move. The image of the man appearing out of the fire, distorted, only his silhouette visible when lit from behind, slipped into his mind without permission. He had hit him in the knee, fortunately, but at that moment, helpless on the ground, he knew the stranger would not miss a second time.
He struggled to steady his breathing and with difficulty set his sights on the mountains in the distance. He imagined waterfalls and rivers, crystal-clear lakes and the reflection of clouds in their waters, paths overlooking the valley, patches of flowering bushes.
He managed to shake off the vision of his near-death by trying to imagine himself flying, soaring through the skies on a dragon. With the wind in his face and breathing clean air, seeing the world disappearing and getting smaller and smaller and smaller and smaller...
“You’re making my dragons nervous...”
A light tap on the shoulder accompanied the voice, which was just enough to make Charlie flinch and turn away from Sonia, bringing his hand to his hip unconsciously reaching for his wand.
“Sorry.” She said with sincerity in her eyes before leaning against the fence.
Charlie brought his hand to his hair, briefly massaging his head and undoing the small ponytail he wore. He leaned back against the wood next to his group leader.
They both stood in silence for a while, just watching the sky. Charlie’s heart started beating normally again, and he was able to take a deep breath. Still, he brought his hand to his opposite arm and started stroking his inner elbow with his thumb.
“Nervous?” Sonia asked without looking at him. “The lists go out the day after tomorrow.” She added at the look she saw out of the corner of her eye.
“A little.”
“The grant is yours, I have no doubt. And Razvan’s too. You are both very capable.” She said with a small smile.
“We’ll see if the folks at Apuseni feel the same way.”
“I’m sure they will.”
Absently, Charlie continued to make circles on his skin.
“Cool tat,” Sonia commented, looking at the pale skin on his arm. “I haven’t seen it on you before.”
“Oh...” He pulled his hand away to reveal the symbol he wore inked in black. “We only got it done last year...”
Sonia raised her eyebrows.
“Kate and I.”
“Damn. That’s bold. I don’t think I could get matching tattoos with a boyfriend. It’s usually contraindicated.” She laughed, coaxing a small smile from Charlie.
“Yeah, well, they’re not permanent. The guy who did it to us can take them off, too.” It dawned on Charlie that this was the first time anyone had noticed the symbol he was wearing, and that no one but Kate knew of its existence. Not even Razvan.
He moved a little closer to her, extending his left arm so she could see better, and began to follow the lines with his pinky.
“It is, in theory, a Celtic symbol made of two Trinity knots flipped to the side and fused together.” He traced the intricate lines from the horizontally pointing tips to the central circle. “The three points of the knots represent the soul: mind, body and spirit, as well as the circle of life. The two knots maintain their individuality, but when intertwined, they create a perfect circle, symbolising the endless unity between two souls.” He recited as he had been told. He focused on the dragons again, less solemn, remembering with a smile the tale they were told when that man was tattooing Kate.
“It’s really just one interpretation, there’s no factual information about it that we know,” he chuckled" but we loved that story so much we adopted it as our own."
When Sonia didn’t comment on it, he kept going,
“It’s called a Serch Bythol. In Celtic Welsh language, serk means Love, and beeth-ohl means everlasting.”
“I wouldn’t have imagined in a million years that you two were corny as hell!” They shared a laugh at her teasing. Charlie was grateful that she took the weight out of his words.
“Oh, come on, be easy on me, boss, I’m opening my heart for you here.” He said half-joking.
“Yeah, yeah, whatever.” They chuckled again, watching as Soule landed on a tree. “I don’t suppose you got it one night completely smashed in some dude’s basemen…”
“No! Of course not!” He laughed.
“Right…”
“No, we…” he tapped it again absent-mindedly, “it was purely for practical reasons, I assure you.”
He stared at the black ink, praying for it to stay black.
“When the other is in danger, it glows red.”
A look of understanding erased the smirk on Sonia’s eyes. She avoided his stare, focusing on the landscape ahead.
“I always wondered how you knew… That you had to leave Romania that day.”
It scared me so much, the way it burned, he thought. I didn’t know where she was until I received her letter. It didn’t have an envelope or a seal. I couldn’t even recognise her handwriting.
He nodded.
A moment of silence passed between them and left Charlie contemplating his future, his plans. Seeing Soule come down from the sky to take a nap by the rocks made him realise he wasn't meant for anything else. This was the life he hoped for in his teens, and the life he wanted to cultivate. If not dragons, what else? But did it need to be in Romania?
These mountains were his dream since he was a child and he was comfortable here, perhaps too much. He wondered if leaving this place, this group of people he could now call friends would feel like a betrayal. To them and himself.
But then he thought of her.
She had worked as hard as him to get into St Mungo’s hospital as a mere apprentice. And she left for him. To follow him here. She got far as a healer in Bucharest’s hospital. And she left for a cause she believed in. She had been offered a position as a herbology teacher once. And she declined for the same reason.
Maybe it was time to return the favour.
Perhaps, after the Apuseni program, if he was chosen to go, it could be the last thing Romania could offer him and that dream he had as a child wasn’t the end of the line but the beginning.
Before the war, they hadn’t discussed much about their plans for a future away from this place, they both had secure positions, a home and they were content with that. He never dared to dream further from that.
Then the war happened, and they were forced to do things they never imagined they could be capable of. And that tranquil life they had shattered along with their possibilities.
Now that it was over, he thought, after everything that they went through, it was time for new dreams.
Kate was in the picture, he used to be sure of it. Now, he hoped.
“Sonia…”
“Hm?” She began putting on her fireproof gloves.
“May I get… some time off?”
The dragon tamer stared at him with an unreadable expression. She seemed to be registering his question as confusion appeared on her face.
“You shouldn’t. Not right before the program starts.”
“After that, it may be too late.” She kept silent and continued to secure her gear. “I think,” he insisted, “I could catch up later, I’m sure. I’m a fast learner. Two weeks tops.”
“Two weeks!”
“Sonia, please. I never take breaks, you know this. I never even quit when all of that happened,” he added, referring to the war. She sighed.
“I know. I just don’t want you to lose this opportunity.”
“I won’t.”
She thought for a moment and then clicked her tongue. “At least stay until the first day.”
“Of course!”
“Hey!”
Both dragonologists turned at the sound of Razvan’s voice, who flew towards them with a frown.
“Am I the only one who works around here or what? We’re supposed to start the scouting in three minutes!”
“Yes,” Sonia added with a nod towards Charlie, “let’s go.”
--
Muddy and sweaty, Charlie apparated in front of his house after an afternoon in the forest. He took off his boots before entering the cabin and made his way to the bathroom for a warm and much needed shower.
After cleaning himself, he stepped out of the bathtub in time to hear scratches on the other side of the door.
“Just wait a moment, Grimoire!”
Charlie imagined the condescending expression of Kate’s cat as it sat in their bedroom.
He opened the door with a towel around his hips just so the animal would stop the assault at the door.
“When Kate’s not here, you become an insufferable pain in the ass.” He accused, changing into a shirt and tracksuit bottoms. Grimoire mewled, clearly letting him know that the sentiment was mutual.
After satiating both appetites, Charlie left the cabin and, using a ladder, checked the rooftop for any sign of Whiskey.
He found the owl sound asleep in the small wooden house he had built for him. The redhead frowned and checked his watch. It was late.
While climbing down, he reminded himself that it meant nothing that Kate hadn’t sent a letter. She was probably having fun with her grandpa. Right?
“Yes. She arrived safe and sound.” He said to Grimoire as he entered again.
He made his way to the kitchen counters, hoping that the routine of putting a kettle on would calm his nerves. He instantly felt better as soon as the tea touched his lips, but the nervousness of what would he say to her and, most importantly, how would she react to seeing him there, remained.
Stopping the spiralling train of thought, he gasped.
Her birthday!
He used to be more thoughtful than that, he thought, but the stress of the war and going back to tons of work at the reserve had left him with no energy to think about presents.
The incorporation to the Apuseni program, if that ever happened, would leave him no time to search for something appropriate. He only had tomorrow to figure it out.
Against all odds and without warning, Grimoire jumped on the seat next to him and, tentatively, rested his head on Charlie’s thigh.
“I know,” he sighed, scratching behind the cat’s ear, “I miss her too. You’ll be fine here on your own? I guess you must. Razvan will come, you know him, to check on you.”
He paused, sipping his tea.
“I don’t even know where to start with her…”
He would get to… Cobh? But where exactly? And even if he found her, how would he manage to put in order the things he should say?
Eyeing the coffee table, he saw some random papers scattered around. With a flick of the wrist, a quill and inkwell floated towards him as he set the cup down. With a determined breath, he started writing.
My dearest,
I don’t know if I will have the courage to show you this letter. Maybe I’ll burn it after I’m finished, maybe I will hide it until I’m ready, or maybe I will be able to speak my mind to your face. You deserve as much, and so much more.
My heart stings every time I come home at night. I watch the lights on the tower where you hide from me and I feel as a failure for not being able to reach you. You’ve closed your mind, only to me? Do I hurt you so that you’ve kept your thoughts to yourself?
I talk to Razvan sometimes, about you and I, about what happened, about Fred if my voice doesn’t betray me. He listens, he tries, and I’m grateful to have found a little solace in his friendship, but he is not the person I burn to reconnect with again.
I miss my best friend, my companion.
Is it because I remind you of your own brother, Jacob, that you can’t find it in your heart to speak to me?
I hear you cry some nights. I know about your nightmares. Often I hold you, selfishly hoping you will wake and hug me back. I don’t know what haunts your dreams, I can imagine, but it feels strange in my stomach that you can’t trust me how you used to.
I guess I’ve been guilty of that too, but for different reasons. There is no one else I would trust with my life but you, but I’m afraid I’ve become a burden to you. I find it difficult to know where I stand, where the limits are, how I should act around you.
But I’ve learnt today, the hard way, after seeing you part from me for the umpteenth time and after observing the creatures that roam these mountains, that my approach has been completely off.
You are not a dragon. Never have been and never will. They come and go or they don’t, they can fly, spit fire, the most absolute chaos can burst in any second, destroying everything around them. To be on good terms with them again, you need to sit still and wait. Make yourself as little of a threat as possible.
But you, my love, you are a feline, and cats can sense when one is not confident enough to handle them. So they scurry away. A change of attitude it’s what’s needed or you’ll just see their tails as they leave the room.
All of this to say I hope you will forgive me.
Once I told you, as you lay in my arms, I whispered to you it would be only fair to follow where you lead.
And now I intend to keep my promise, because it was one, whether you know it or not.
Although I should have been quicker to say it,
I accept your offer, if you’ll have me, and I’ll reunite with you in Ireland if I manage to find where you are.
If after these weeks you still seek a life away from here without me, at least I’ll know that my last decision regarding you wasn’t a disappointment or one that I’ll regret.
But for all it’s worth, I want to start dreaming with you again.
With all the love I can possibly keep in my heart,
Charlie.
Tumblr media
Before folding the letter, and with utmost care, he drew with his quill a Serch Bythol at the end of the page, hoping she would understand the meaning behind it.
His heart felt lighter, somehow, having put into words his intentions and motives and, he realised as he lifted the quill, that he hoped for her to read it. When the envelope was closed, he placed a kiss on it.
With Grimoire’s head resting on his thigh and a steaming cup in hand, he stared out of the window, watching the trees sway with the wind. He took a deep breath and enjoyed for the first time in months a quiet afternoon in solitude.

A/N. A short one but very much needed, if anyone still cares :) It’s hard writing these days

when'd you start shipping rarry? i remember how i started very clearly. i was just lying in bed thinking about hinny instead of sleeping and started thinking off harry x other weasleys
'hmm harry x arthur EW ofc not'
'same for molly ewww'
'harry and bill... age gap is big but ok??'
'harry and charlie... age gap but ok'
'harry x percy... probably wouldnt work'
'harry x fred? idfk'
'harry x george no idk'
'harry x ron? ... wait that'd actually be kinda cute'
and so my obsession began. the REAL reason i close my tabs when anyone comes near me 'what??? im not obsessed with two canonically 'straight' boys and their relationship. anyways get out im watering my pc 😐'
(i gotta send some weird ask to my moots sometimes to let them know 'yeah i see u m8' 🤡)
ok. no one has ever asked me before this before, which is weird because ive been preparing myself for this moment my whole life (jk….haha….)
anyways. so i after got into hp watched the movies and read the books and all that and i found myself like looking for more content (ron content. it was always about ron.) and ofc the most obvious thing was fanfiction and romione (i was never like a huge fan but at the time it felt like the only pairing for ron? it was only after i started reading other ron pairing that i realised how… un-ron some of them write him and this is not about romione anyway this is a rant for a another day lahsshjsjdj)
ANYWAYS. so basically i (despite not really being into the ship, which should let you how much i love ron) read all romione fics and was like…. now what….
A Rarry Fic. My eyes were opened. I saw the light.
Expect for part where they’re a fucking rare-pair, ofc. (which is the reason I started writing for hp and rarry. gotta do my part and all)
all jokes aside, their dynamic and relationship/friendship were always my favourite and when i read that fic, it just clicked i guess. they were always my favourite, their scenes together were my favourite, so really, once i realised it was an option (i don’t remember why i didn’t at first), there was no looking back. best ship ever. soulmates. The Ultimate best friends to lovers. no other ship comes close.
and im glad they’re not canon because i do not like the way romance is written in the books (or the movies of fucking course. a whole train wreck)
LOOK what you’ve done omg this is really A Rant. My apologies. Also this is basically incoherent, good luck 👍
I LOVE you going through the Weasleys one by one. And let them be ‘straight’ in canon who fucking cares about canon. i know i don’t. (also the obsession with them is. so true of you. how relatable.)
(and please do keep these kind of asks coming this made me smile like a fool)

Adrian exited the International Travel Department in the Ministry, unbearably exhausted from her travel. She adjusted her skirt to keep herself distracted from the pain of waiting. It had been about two years since she had seen her best friend Charlie Weasley. Things got messy after the war which made them unable to see each other face to face. They kept in touch through letters but with Adrian’s travelling schedule as an advertising agent and Charlie’s strict duties as a dragonologist both parties had no time to see one another. It seemed strange that, in all of her years working in advertisement for magical creatures, Adrian had never gotten the chance to do advertisement for the reserve Charlie worked on. But never mind that, it was finally happening. Adrian would be able to see her best friend again.
Adrian’s eyes scanned the crowd of people, looking for Charlie who claimed that he would be meeting her there. As soon as she began to worry that he had forgotten about her, a pair of shockingly strong arms wrapped around her midsection. They gave her a tight squeeze as they lifted her in the air. She squealed loudly which drew the attention of other people in the area. Adrian recognized the scarred and mangled arms of her best friend and instantly relaxed, letting out a hearty laugh. He released her so she turned around to justify her assumption.
“Hey, twat!” Adrian whispered as she smacked Charlie’s head. Charlie rubbed the spot on his head and chuckled.
The pair stared at each other, wide grins plastered on their faces. It took no more than a few seconds before they enveloped one another in a tight hug. Adrian gasped for air between a happy sob while Charlie held her closer. The two pulled away after what felt like an eternity, Adrian quickly wiping her face of the few escaped tears on her cheeks.
“Merlin, I’ve missed you so much,” Adrian sighed. Her eyes raked his body over. “You got so strong! And, Merlin, your hair! Your mum is going to kill you.” Adrian grabbed his hair in a fistful, ogling the length. Charlie laughed as he carefully removed her entangled hands.
“She’s already seen it and I assure you it’s not as bad as Bill’s,” he joked. Charlie eyed her attire, noticing how much she’d changed from the last time he’d seen her. “And you look so...distinguished.” Adrian rolled her eyes.
“I know, I know. I look like a right git. But I have to dress like this now that I got promoted,” Adrian added with a sly grin. Charlie’s jaw dropped at her comment.
“You’re joking,” he said. Adrian shook her head with an excited smile. “That’s amazing news! My best friend got promoted!” Charlie shouted as if he were trying to reach the entire Ministry. Adrian fought off a laugh as she shushed him.
“Shut your mouth! People are staring!” Adrian whispered jokingly. Charlie calmed down but still kept a malicious grin on his face.
“But seriously Adrian-”
“Oh,” she interrupted meekly. “I actually ask people at work to address me by my middle name. A lot of the girls at work didn’t take me seriously for having a boys’ name so I go by Charlotte. For future reference.” Charlie’s smile fell slightly which broke Adrian’s heart a little. He noticed her frown and immediately returned to his excited demeanor, raising Adrian’s spirits.
“Right. Well, I’m proud of you.”
“Thanks,” Adrian replied, looking at him through lowered lashes. She looked down at her briefcase by her feet, snatching it up before eyeing Charlie with a sigh. “So? Are we ready to go?”
“Let’s do it,” Charlie said as he wrapped an arm around Adrian. Before she knew it, the two were apparating away to Charlie’s house.
Adrian arrived in his foyer alongside him. While she admired the quaint cabin, Charlie made his way to the kitchen. He had set a teapot on the stove earlier and left it on while he was gone. Adrian, alarmed, noted to never tell Molly about Charlie’s idiocracy. Adrian took a seat on the couch, pushing a few (hopefully) clean shirts aside.
“Here,” Charlie said as he offered a cup to her.
They drank in silence for a bit. Although they had kept in touch, it was still difficult to transfer from paper to real life.
“So,” Charlie finally started. “Because you’re going by Charlotte, can I call you Cherry again?” Adrian began choking on her tea.
“You arse!” she cried, kicking him in the shin. “No, you absolutely cannot call me Cherry again. Besides, I’m only going by Charlotte at work― you can still call me Adrian.”
“I think I’ll stick to Cherry, thanks,” Charlie teased, causing Adrian to kick him again. The pair dissolved into laughter and there was something so sweet and sentimental about it.
“I can’t believe I went by Cherry when I was little,” the girl sighed. “What a stupid name.”
“I can’t believe you don’t hex me into oblivion whenever I bring it up.”
“Remind me to do that next time.”
“Not a chance,” he said, smiling.
Adrian took a final sip of her tea before standing up. “I should get going. I need to find the main office to get the keys to my cabin.”
“Keys to your cabin?” Charlie stood up, meeting her eyes. His gaze immediately fell to the ground with a sheepish laugh. “I have to admit, I thought you’d be staying with me. Or, at least, you’d be staying with me for a few months until you get your own place. Sure as hell would make up for the last two years of not seeing each other.”
Adrian was torn. All of her bags were at her new cabin but she admittedly wanted to spend more time with Charlie. “I guess it wouldn’t hurt to spend the night,” she finally said.
“Fantastic!” he cheered. “I already have the guest bedroom set up for you.” Before Adrian could stop him, Charlie was already on his way upstairs to drop off her briefcase and make final touches on her room. Adrian laughed to herself at his insistence while she slipped off of her heels.
“Hey, Charlie?” Adrian called up to him, coming to a realization as the night neared an end.
“Yes?” Charlie leaned his head over the railing to eye his best friend.
“I don’t have any of my things. I sent my stuff to my new place.”
“I actually spoke with Vivian― lovely lady, works as a receptionist― and asked her to send your things to my place.”
“Oh,” Adrian sighed appreciatively. She was shocked at how much he’d prepared for her arrival, seeing as he hadn’t been prepared for a single thing in his life. “Where’s the bathroom, Charlie? I think I’m going to get ready for bed.”
“It’s up here on the right.” Charlie pointed towards the door before disappearing into her room.
“Toss that bag with the ugly floral design out please!” Just as she asked, the bag flew out of the room.
Adrian stalked up the stairs, snatching the bag outside her door. She turned to her right and froze at the sight of two identical doors. From the living room Adrian could only see one door so she couldn’t figure out which one was the bathroom. She took a guess and entered the first door, arriving in what could only be Charlie’s room. She scoffed at his bachelor style life, carefully navigating her way through the mess of clothes. Adrian shrugged and began to change― she could go to the bathroom to brush her teeth in a minute.
Adrian unzipped her skirt and removed her blouse before rifling through the bag to find a nightgown. She looked up from her bag for a moment to see pictures that she hadn’t noticed before lining the room. She walked towards the first frame to examine the photo. Pictured were Charlie and his family posing together in their backyard.
The frame next to that had a photo of Charlie standing in front of what had to be his first dragon. Adrian chuckled at how small and timid he looked.
The third frame held a photo of Adrian, Charlie, and his siblings. The boys (excluding Bill) eyed Adrian warily. She and Charlie had babysat the lot of them and they had grown quite fond of her growing up; some more than others. Adrian’s arms were wrapped around Ginny, who was grasping onto the older girl’s arms.
The last frame contained a photo of solely her and Charlie. Adrian remembered that day. The pair stood side by side with acceptance letters for their respective careers. Adrian was going in as an assistant and Charlie a trainee.
Adrian was disrupted from her happy memory by the sound of a lusted breath and a door slam. Adrian whipped her head around to see the door just shut. Charlie had seen her. “Merlin, I’m sorry!” Charlie called from the other side of the door.
“No, no, this is my fault! I got lost!” Adrian replied as she hurriedly changed into the silk nightgown she pulled out.
“Are you decent? Can I come in now?”
Adrian hurried to the door while saying, “Yes!”
She reached to open the door as did Charlie. She opened the door before he did and his hand fell against her waist. Adrian jumped back at his touch and began to blush.
“Sorry,” she muttered. “I’m...I’m going to go to bed now. Night, Charlie.” Charlie sputtered but couldn’t say a word. After a few seconds, Adrian pushed past him to go to her room.
Adrian was so caught up in the strangeness of the situation that she didn’t even realize that she left her bag and her clothes in his room. She simply fell onto her bed, hoping she could forget about it.

The bridesmaid
Chapter three
Chapter one: here
Chapter two: here
***
When you awoke the next morning, you found yourself in Charlie’s bed.
“Hey,” Charlie whispered, noticing you stirring, “sorry, I felt bad about hogging the bed, so I moved you in the night.”
“That’s okay, you replied, turning to face him. You felt yourself blush as you noticed that he had taken his shirt off, “how are you feeling?”
Charlie smiled at you, “Never felt better.”
“Last night feels like a fever dream,” you sighed.
Charlie kissed you, taking you into his arms and rolling the two of you so he was resting on top of you. He put his weight on his forearms, so he wouldn’t crush you. You ran your hands along his arms, feeling the years of working with dragons in the muscles and scars.
“Do you really love me?” He whispered, kissing your neck.
“Yes, Charlie,” you giggled.
Charlie sighed happily and rolled off you, pulling you into him and you nestled into side.
“What happens now?” You asked, looking up at him.
“With us, or in general?”
“Both, I think.”
“Well, I plan on being in love with you for the rest of my life,” he said, kissing you on the forehead, “but in general? I don’t know, you should have seen it last night. Even I never thought that the Ministry would fall.”
“Are you going to go back to Romania?”
“I don’t think I can,” he sighed, “I need to stay and fight.”
“I’ll fight with you,” you said, kissing him, before resting your head on his chest. You both laid there in peaceful silence listening to the sound of waves and the other inhabitants of the cottage beginning to stir. The fact that yesterday, two of your best friends had gotten married, the man you were in love with had told you that he loved you back and the Ministry of Magic had fallen all in one day made your head spin.
“Your brother was there,” Charlie whispered, making you look up at him, “He was wearing a mask, but I knew it was him. He was standing back from the others and not joining the fight, but he was there.”
“He’s chosen a side then. Oh, Jacob,” you sighed, tightly closing your eyes to hold back the tears. Charlie kissed your forehead again. You moved to return the kiss when you were interrupted by a knock at the door followed by Arthur popping his head inside. He either didn’t notice you and Charlie in bed together or he didn’t mind it.
“Molly’s making breakfast, do you want any?” He asked.
“Yes, please Dad, we’ll be out in a moment,” Charlie replied.
Arthur’s head disappeared from the doorway and you listened to him walk back to the kitchen.
Charlie groaned and stretched, wincing as his battle wound from the night before protested the movement.
“You need to let that heal.”
Charlie stood slowly, pushing himself up from the bed. You quickly followed, ready to catch him if he fell.
“I’m okay,” he smiled, still placing his arm on your shoulder and leaning on you.
You gingerly helped him to put a shirt on and straightened out your own rumpled clothing. You had slept in your bridesmaid dress, but you didn’t think that anyone would mind given the night you had all had.
You led Charlie out of the bedroom and into the kitchen. The Weasleys were already sitting down and eating breakfast. You helped Charlie to sit down at an empty chair and sat opposite him. With a tired smile and a wave of her wand, Molly placed two plates of food in front of you.
“Thanks Mum,” Charlie smiled, digging in hungrily. You didn’t have much of an appetite and pushed your food around your plate with your fork.
“Has anyone heard from Ron?” Ginny asked, from the other end of the table.
“We’ll hear from him when he’s safe,” Arthur replied. It was silent for a while and you found the sound of cutlery and chewing quite soothing.
It was George who finally broke the silence. “What will happen now?” He asked, through a mouth full of food.
“Whatever happens, we’ll do it together,” Charlie replied, smiling at you. You smiled back and took his hand in yours.
That was all you needed to hear. With Charlie by your side, you could do anything and face anything. As long as you were together you knew that everything would be okay.
