In her defense, it was late, and he'd been running her ruthlessly through her testimony for a while now. There was a danger in making it sound too rehearsed, so in addition to going over the most likely points several times, he'd also tried to come at it from every possible angle the prosecution might use. Kat's emotions could get her into trouble on the stand, and he didn’t want any surprises tomorrow.

So… yes, some of those questions might have been purposely geared toward pissing her off, upsetting her, or generally pushing her buttons. He’d never claimed to be a particularly soft touch. Her therapist could worry about her well-being. Andy was here to keep her out of prison, and he was determined to do exactly that.

He raised an eyebrow over the top of his notes. "If it's all the same to you, I prefer to be the one doing the spanking. Do we need to take a break?" Not for that reason. The thought may have crossed his mind, but he would never risk her freedom or potentially her life by acting on it. But he had been grilling her pretty hard.

"I know. I saw," he growled, moving to shield her with his body as he took aim down the alleyway at her attacker. Oliver had been covered in blood often enough to know there was nothing sexy about being hurt. It was a bold assumption that the one covered in blood and not holding the knife was the victim and not just going to stab him in the back, but it was a risk he was willing to take.

It was a hell of a way to meet somebody, and it was starting to feel almost familiar. He'd been at this vigilante thing for less than a year and was still figuring out exactly what that meant for him. Oliver was pretty sure this wasn't about him though. His mission to save his city had taken him into some unusual directions, but investigating this lead hadn't prepared him for walking in on an actual attempted murder. The arrow flew and its target fell, but he didn't take it for granted that they were out of danger. "Are there more?"

What's some advice you wish you received much earlier

"When people come to you to establish a boundary or a need or to express hurt feelings, that's a compliment, not an attack. That is them wanting to develop the relationship and trusting you to listen and care to do better. And no matter how sad you are about accidentally hurting them, it's a GOOD thing that they cared to have a hard conversation with you"

thinking abt kleah. and like, on one hand i like the idea of everyone else being the same gender-wise in vld except them. but on the other hand i always love the bits where keith's gaydar is too dookie to realize lance is bi or lance has to have a bi crisis so maybe i can make allura SO butch that kat is like damn....leah likes him..... and not women...... meanwhile leah is essentially walking around in a butch bait t shirt whether knowingly or not

"Not your most promising start." Those words couldn't do anything but bring an immediate frown to his face, eyes already narrowed in distrust. If he knew Kat, she was actually aiming for that exact expression. They'd spent enough time together at this point that he was familiar with the finer points of some of hers. She had about seven different things she did with her eyebrows that ranged anywhere from you are on thin fucking ice to you'll still be alive when I start to eat you.

"But honestly, not your worst either." He sighed, leaning back slightly with a gesture for her to go ahead. Good, bad, or positively rage-inducing, he still needed to know. Almost anything could be relevant to her case this far into things, and Andy wasn't a fan of surprises in the courtroom. Whatever it was, he'd prefer to start working out a strategy now. He couldn't help her if he didn't have all the information.

Kat had already been good when she first started coming to the gym, but she'd been getting steadily better under Cassian's instruction and her own determination. He was impressed with her dedication as well as her skill. Sparring with her was typically one of the best parts of his day, and as their sessions went on, he had to hold back less and less.

It wasn't easy to get under the Illyrian General's guard, and it was damn near impossible for a human. His eyes widened in surprise when she had both the strength and the stealth to slip past his defenses and shove him against the wall. Then, incongruously, his face split into a wide grin, and he boomed a delighted laugh. "Look at you! That was awesome!" he whooped, dropping his defense to grab her around the waist and spin her around.

The look he shot her was Oliver's patented blend of irritation and thinning patience. It wasn't that he didn't find Kat attractive, and in another life, he'd have already been trying to seduce her. That guy had died on a yacht several years ago. Maybe bringing her to the basement of Verdant to heal and hide while they came up with a plan had been a mistake, but so far he didn't regret revealing his secret identity.

"That wasn't shit. It's just the truth. I'm not sewing you back up again if you rip your stitches being an idiot." He jumped from the last rung of the salmon ladder and picked up a towel. He sympathized with her wanting to train, but it would only set her healing back. He was also a filthy hypocrite, as evidenced by the number of bruises and abrasions scattered over his body from his nighttime activities. "Put that energy toward coming up with a plan. Someone's trying to kill you."

idk if it's just me, but sometimes i feel like it's kinda hard to vent if you're not a... perfect victim? like if i'm heartbroken over a failed relationship, i just wanna be consoled, not have people focusing on what i did wrong or what my ex did... sometimes there's no clear perpetrator and both have their own faults, both are imperfect humans. i just wanna have my grief validated, not be expected to hide everything i did wrong just to get validation...

Yeah the way people try to reduce every conflict to Evil Abuser vs Perfect Victim is so toxic honestly
