Last night Sheila and I went to a seafood place. For a cheeseburger.

Coastal Seafoods in Minneapolis is a fresh seafood market. It's a neat little place. When @littlerunnergurl visited us years ago she and I shopped there for ingredients of a seafood stew LRG made for us.

There's a small counter for hot food in back. Two four-tops and a small row of bars stools next to a cold window is the complete dining room. A Facebook page devoted to smashburgers had mentioned this place's burger recently. That's what got us over there.

We ordered one Coastal Burger. "Two 4oz Wagyu Beef Patties, Caramalized Onion Jam, Pickles, American Cheese, & Dijon Mayo on Toasted Brioche!" (images from the Coastal Foods website)

I also ordered the wonderful looking Connecticut Style Lobster Roll. "Warm Lobster & Seasoned Butter on a Toasted Tom Cat Bakery Roll"

The cook cut them in half so Sheila and I could try some of each. Both were fantastic. We didn't order French fries or any sides. The older I get the wiser I am about not ordering too much food. For sure if there had been a serving of fries in front of me I wouldn't have left until the plate was clean. As it was, we walked out feeling satisfied yet not needing to adjust the car seats back so we could fit in the Subaru.

I'd been wanting to see some dive bars. A block away is the Fraternal Order of Eagles #34. It's an appropriately dimly lit place where most of the customers seemed to know each other. We didn't order food, but I almost did just to purchase a cheeseburger for under ten bucks, a rare thing these days.

The bartender was friendly. She knew what to pour for people a few times without asking. I chuckled when she asked us if we'd be okay for a bit unattended when she went outside for a quick smoke.

It's located at the intersection of two similarly named streets. When I was a kid it was mind-blowing when I saw Minneapolis street signs with the same numbers. Sure, the Av and St make a difference, but it still seemed like division by zero to someone not yet accustomed to how cities named numbered east/west and north/south roads. Similarly, I was amazed when my dad pointed out the named streets in some places were in freaking alphabetical order.

After a bottle of beer (and a sunset) we drove south a short distance through the cold and dark night to the Schooner Tavern. It too is at an intersection of numbered streets.

It was a bit louder, but no less dimly lit, than the previous place. The two bartenders were very friendly. Sheila and I again sat at the bar for one beer.

We listened to conversations around us. It was only 5:30 PM but some folks appeared to have started the evening early. A frazzled looking guy (who was probably 15 years younger than he actually appeared) must have gotten the happy hour special on "fucks" which seem to have been a 20-for-1 deal. Whew, I got tired of hearing that word used as noun, verb, adjective, preposition, pronoun, article, and adverb.

The bottles behind the bar appeared to glow. If the bar had been quieter maybe I would have heard them hum.

Sometimes I want of those tiny Red Bull refrigerators with the glass door (as seen in the left side of this picture I took). Sheila doesn't think it would look appropriate on our coffee table no matter how well it fit. People would probably trip over the power cord she also claims. I still want one though.

We still enjoyed the atmosphere while we had one beer. After that we headed to the brewery by our house. It's at the intersection of one named and one numbered street, more to the sensibilities of my suburban mind.

We met up with one couple we know and another couple who were on a second date. The guy is a regular, the woman is new to that crowd. At first she seemed like she wanted to move to a private table. Soon though she warmed up to us, and the six of us had a great conversation.

I'm going to start looking up some more dive bars for another weekend.

Put too much dijon on my burger (again) so now you get burger headcanons. Yeah. I know.

Mahiru: simple and classic hamburger. Rare instance where he prefers premade over doing it himself because a pound of ground chuck makes So Many Patties and he’s just one person. This changes though when he has more people over than ever, especially because it means he can tailor the fat content and ingredients to Misono’s more delicate body so his friend can enjoy a good old burger too. LOVES the Alicein cookouts for giving him access to a fancy outdoor grill.

Kuro: children’s Cheeseburger from WacDonald’s because the onions come pre diced lmao. His only request is that they hold the mustard. The type of person who likes to open his burger up and stuff french fries on it

Sakuya: bacon cheeseburger. He used to get a fried egg on top but one time Belkia said it looked like a pimple ready to be popped and Sakuya can no longer eat it that way. It’s for the best; he never managed to not be messy with the yolk

Tsubaki: veggie burger with avocado and grilled onion. Yes he’s picky about it. Yes he’s a pain in the ass about it too. Yes, Shamrock will make it from scratch for him

Belkia: Meat! meat! Meat! Wagyu beef or bust! Swiss cheese and mushrooms cooked in the beef fat are a must!

Otogiri: you ever seen those crazy burgers with stir fried noodles piled on top? Yeah

Mikuni: eats fast food with surprising regularity. He likes Wanda’s* when it comes to chains, but mom and pop diners always serve the best of the best he’s ever had. They’re so greasy though…

Jeje: Does not like to eat burgers. Will steal mikuni’s fries or onion rings, though

Ildio: do I even need to say it. Bigger is better and the more toppings the more he loves it. Frankly, though, he’s learning to actually enjoy his food instead of inhaling it. Give him time to figure out what he actually likes.

Nicco: like Mahiru, wants to keep it simple. Loves heirloom tomatoes and bread and butter pickles.

Lawless: prosciutto and avocado on a fresh ground patty cooked medium rare. Roasted tomato slice, garlic pepper, and a focaccia bun. Did you expect anything less?

Licht: Basic and familiar WacDonald’s is his go to. Reminds him of late night concerts and the satisfaction of a job well done

Hard Rock Cafe John Wick: Chapter 4 Burger and Cocktails

To promote the release of the fourth film in the John Wick franchise, music-themed restaurant chain the Hard Rock Cafe offered a themed burger and two cocktails for a limited time.

The burger- the Wagyu Yaga (a reference to Wick's nickname "Baba Yaga") was a wagyu burger with a sweet and spicy gunpowder seasoning, tomato, lettuce, wasabi cheese sauce, Tonkatsu ketchup, red wine-caramelized onions, and wasabi cheese sauce, all served with fries.

The two drinks were Vengeance on the Rocks (right), a mix of Jack Daniels, passion fruit, lime juice, almond syrup, prosecco, and liqueur cassis, and the No Business-Espresso Martini (left), a mix of Jack Daniels, brown sugar simple syrup, Disarrono amaretto, and fresh espeesso.

The partnership also included a sweepstakes that would allow one lucky winner to dress like John Wick by receiving a custom suit created by the film's costume designer, Paco Delgado, alongside a stay in the Rock Star Suite at the New York Hard Rock Hotel. This sweepstakes was won by Cathi Swett, an attorney and actress from New Jersey.

Everyone has their vices

Killer is a fan of chocolate, but likes truffles in particular. He also has a weak spot for 3 Musketeers Dust likes just about any street food you can find, but he's a huge sucker for food truck/street food hot dogs. Everyone's is different, and he likes seeing which ones have what toppings or strange takes. He most enjoyed a deep fried, bacon-and-cheese wrapped one once. He was in grease heaven. Axe likes anything and everything, but has a special weakness for super gourmet foods because they're such a foreign concept to him. His favorite thing is wagyu beef. (And yes, he's a really good chef, so he absolutely will find out your favorite foods and figure out how to make them, even if he has to get the recipe off the internet) Cross likes street tacos possibly more than life itself. Barilla ones are his absolute fave, but any good taco truck will get his business and then some Baggs likes hot pockets and sushi. Nightmare ... is a mixed bag. He enjoys very, very fancy foods (high end steakhouse, Michelin star restaurant, generational family businesses, etc.) but he also has a weak spot for just... slop thrown together. He didn't eat well when he first started out on his own, resorting to what he could swipe without getting noticed... so he has some odd favorites, including but not limited to: -Pickles and mayonnaise -Corn dogs and pudding cups (chocolate goes best, he says, but he's not picky) -Mustard covered apple pie (originally to cover up the flavor of apples, which he hates, but he decided it tasted good enough. -Barbeque sauce and snack cakes of any kind If he's not feeling great, he'll go to town on these, as they're a bit of a comfort food for him. There's loads of other god-awful combos he likes, too.

Dream is a sucker for cakes. Any kind of cake. Ink likes anything that is vividly colored, heavily food-dyed, etc. Rainbow bagels, brightly colored candies, anything he can potentially get the colors off of while eating them, plus they're pretty! Blue loves his burgers. Humans make some absolutely insane burgers, too. He likes the ones that are challenges.

Error likes brand name chocolate, the fancier the better. He also likes popcorn, and has recently been turned on to popcorn with toppings, like seaweed, flavored dust or salts, the like.

The order was either butternut squash or acorn squash soup and a Wagyu Burger. Who puts those together?// I am screaming in Gordon Ramsey right now. I bet that burger was just meat and cheese and then he dipped it in the soup. At this point from every thing I’ve learned, I wouldn’t put it past him. I love food but this man is just not appreciating it the way it should be

I literally sat there for about thirty minutes after posting that yesterday and wondered if a burger and soup can be thought of as soup and sandwich. It seems like semantics, but I'm not sure.

Take a Taste: with delicious burger meal at Tokyo Tokyo Restaurant [Recorded: May 6th, 2023]

Hello! It’s time for another “Take a Taste”! The series is about delicious food with my two paper dolls.

And today, my 🎂30th birthday celebration 🥳 is still ongoing. That is, until this Monday. Nonetheless, here are my recorded photos from yesterday at the delicious Japanese cuisine-Filipino made called "Tokyo Tokyo" 🇯🇵🇵🇭🍱🥢, which debuted in 1985. And much like existing running Philippine restaurants, it is spread over 68 branches throughout this country (as of 2019). But, is it worth my celebratory meal? 🤔 Let's find out! 🙂

So, without further ado, let’s get started:

1st to 7th Image(s): ↑

• First off, we're inside the SM Grand Central (in Monumento, Caloocan City) for a long stroll while searching for a restaurant to eat. 😊🚶🚶‍♀️🏢 Since it's my 30th birthday, I was gonna picked another delicious burger from a different restaurant brand like "Zark's Burgers" 🍔, "EBC - Everything But Cheese" 🧀, or even "G&G Taiwan Famous Fried Chicken" 🍗, the latter of which offers burgers with chicken patty (you know, "Chicken Sandwich" 🍗🥪.). However, there are SO many delicious restaurants that I had to pick ONE before customers occupies the table spot. 🤔 So, we ended up at the "Tokyo Tokyo" restaurant, where the Japanese decors & atmosphere are very impressive to their restaurant standards both exterior & interior. *Sniff* Mmmm... Can you smell the authentic Japanese decor, you two? Yeah, doesn't love Japanese culture? 🥰🇯🇵⛩️🍱🥢 Nonetheless, we've already filled an order & wait for a few hours. 🙂🧾⌚

• Minutes later, our orders arrived at our table. I ordered the Wagyu Cheeseburger with 5 pcs. of potato balls for a side & a small red tea drink for only ₱285 ($5). 🍔🥔🥤 *Sniff* Yum-yum! My paper dolls are excited to taste it! Me too, I hope these are good! 😋🤤And not a bad price though. 👌

• Alright, let's try out a single potato ball first before we go to the main food. There's also an honest mayo sauce, so let's try dipping it. 🥔🙂*first bite the potato ball* Mmmm... Pretty good, the first time I ate their cooked hushpuppy (as they called it, if you're outside my country). My paper dolls grab a bite, as well, and they're impressed the potato ball/hushpuppy. (just imagine) We also try without dipping the mayo, and it still taste good! Yum-yum! 😋👍 We're of to a good start, my secret friends!

• Alright, let's go straight to the main food, the "Wagyu Cheeseburger"! 😁🍔Sounds very promising, but my paper dolls are curious to see what's inside the bun? 🤔 Okay, let's have a look! 🙂

• [14th & 15th Images] After I removed the stick (which is nice to hold), here you could see the genuine grill marks on the Wagyu beef patty & melted cheese on top. 🥩🧀 Beneath the patty, a mish-mash of veggies (lettuce & cabbage) for a little pinch of healthy. 🥬Veggies are important ingredients throughout the fast food menu items 😉☝️, it could be on salads, sandwiches, or hamburgers (,etc...) 🥗🥪🍔. So, we should practice eating veggies, right you two? Yeah, they get it. 😊👍

• [16th Image] Alright, enough explanatory, let's assemble my burger & take a bite! 😁🤲🍔

• [17th to 20th Images] *bite & munch on the burger* Mmmm... 🍔😋Hmmm... At first glance 🤔, I didn't get the taste of the Wagyu beef patty, to be honest. 😕Heck, my paper dolls didn't get the picture of the Wagyu patty after they went their first bite. The only ones we catch the taste are the veggies & melted cheese. Unless, if we go munch down a couple of times until we get the taste of the Wagyu patty. What do you think, you two? How's your taste in the Wagyu cheeseburger? My paper dolls said "quite lacking flavor". 😕 Mhm, I see. But, when it comes to presentation, I'd say a decent quality. 👌

• [21st Image] If you do not satisfy the Wagyu Cheeseburger, how about I gave you two pieces of potato balls (or hushpuppies). 😊🥔🥔 After all, they're a pretty good side dish! 😋 So, go get a piece, you two. They're all yours! 😊 (BTW: I gave another two potato balls to my parents for share. 🥰👨‍👩‍👦)

• [22nd to 24th Images] Since you finished the potato balls, what are we gonna do with the mayo sauce? Hmmm... 🤔 I think I know what I'm gonna do! 😃💡let's spread it onto Wagyu patty as an experiment! 😁🍔 Side note: the bottom bun is now small after numerous biting. lol 😅

• [25th & 26th Images] *Taking another bite* Mmmm... Surprisingly, it worked! 😃Putting mayo onto Wagyu Cheeseburger is more satisfying than before! 🍔😋Do you want a taste? *My paper dolls biting* They said "This is better!", and I could agree more! My experiment is a success! 😁👍

• As for the red tea beverage, I'm satisfied the quench & refreshing. Mmmm! 🥤😋

Overall:

• Mmmm... What do I think about the Wagyu Cheeseburger? 🍔🤔To be honest, the potato balls (or hushpuppies) are worth my appetite more than the burger itself. And man, this is my first time tasting their hushpuppies! 🥔🥔🥔🥔🥔😋Tasting Wagyu beef patty, on the other hand, was also my first time trying it but, I didn't catch the quality of the Wagyu flavor. 😕🤷 On the bright side, the presentation of the burger was pretty good ☺️👌, never mind holding it with my hands & experience greasy fingers.The bottom line, they should send me plastic gloves & wear them before I eat the burger. 🤲🍔If I want a satisfied grilled beef burger, I'm better off with Burger King's signature Whopper over Tokyo Tokyo's Wagyu Cheeseburger. And yes, I've already tasted the Whopper before from my last year's birthday, and man, I'm satisfied with my 2022's birthday celebration appetite! 🍔😋This year, I guess it's alright. ☺️👌At least, I'm experienced eating at "Tokyo Tokyo" restaurant, and hopefully, I will try other menus than a burger, you know. 😉🍱🥢

In preparation for the Paramount+ sequel to the 1997 comedy film Good Burger, fast food hamburger chain Arby's released the Good Burger 2 Meal.

The meal came with a deluxe wagyu steakhouse (half ground beef half wagyu) burger on a brioche bun made with American cheese, pickles, tomato, red onion, shredded lettuce, and burger sauce, along with crinkle cut fries, and a special strawberry milkshake. Additionally, the burger came with a special Good Burger 2 Meal sticker.
