Because of the very strict regulatory regime applied to nuclear power stations, no work is carried out without a work plan ; and, although large numbers of temporary contract workers are used during station outages, so that all necessary maintenance and upgrades can be carried out during the few weeks while the reactor is idled for refueling, they are carefully trained, briefed in detail on the work, and closely supervised. As a result, the chance of being injured or killed on the job in a nuclear power plant is practically the lowest for to any heavy industrial activity.
Such standards and practices are not applied in the petrochemical industry, and the best efforts of engineers and designers to build safe and reliable plant can be defeated by poor management and operation. A really notable example of this was the 1974 Flixboro disaster in Britain, in which 28 workers were killed, 36 injured, and the plant completely demolished. (Almost the only object which survived unscathed was a container carrying radioactive material.) If the blast had occurred on a regular working day, rather than a Saturday, there would have been many more deaths, as the entire administration block was disintegrated, but was empty at the time. A major modification had been made to the plant without consulting the engineering staff.
This is not to say that accidents do not happen in the nuclear industry. At KRB Gundremmingen, a German BWR plant, in the 1970s, two technicians died when the stem of a valve was expelled, followed by a jet of steam at full reactor pressure and temperature. (Anti-nuclear campaigners to this day make much of the fact that it was “radioactive steam”, but radiation poisoning kills much more slowly than a combination of scalding and blunt-force trauma.) Investigation suggested that the valve packing had been installed backwards.

Speaking of chemicals, everyone knows not to mix bleach and vinegar because that makes chlorine gas, right? Or bleach and ethanol because that makes chloroform, right? Or bleach and ammonia, or bleach and anything besides water to make a 10% solution, right??
Because I thought that was common knowledge especially after the COVID cleaning crazes and yet. and YET. I got to learn the hard way that this is, in fact, NOT as common knowledge as I thought it was and buddy let me tell you chlorine gas is a doozy very not fun. Very holy-shit-i-cant-breathe-and-everything-burns not fun.

It is the main active ingredient in many drain cleaners as it can dissolve organic matter like hair and grease blocking drains. It is also used for cleaning, as its high pH helps break down organic soils. Caustic soda mixed with water forms a strong base cleaning solution that is effective at removing tough stains from surfaces like ceramic tiles, bathroom fixtures and kitchen appliances. Lye soap can also be made at home using caustic soda for cleaning and laundering purposes. However, it is highly corrosive and proper safety precautions must be followed when using it for domestic cleaning.
Safety and Hazards of Caustic soda Due to its highly alkaline nature, caustic soda can cause severe burns on contact with skin, eyes and internal organs if ingested. Its solutions have a high pH of around 13 or more, making them very corrosive. Exposure to caustic soda may cause damage to skin and eyes on contact in form of burns, blindness or permanent damage if not washed off immediately with lots of water. Caustic soda should always be handled with appropriate protective equipment like gloves, goggles and protective clothing. Spills should be cleaned up promptly using neutralizing agents. Proper disposal of unused caustic soda is important as dumping it down household drains or into water bodies can raise pH levels dangerously. Due to its corrosivity and hazardous nature, caustic soda solution requires careful handling, storage and transportation according its safety data sheet guidelines.
Environmental Impacts of Sodium Hydroxide While caustic soda has widespread usage in industries and households, it also poses environmental hazards if not handled or disposed properly. Accidental releases of caustic soda into waterways, soil or air can severely disturb the pH balance and natural ecosystems. Small amounts of caustic soda discharge from industrial effluents into lakes and rivers can make the water too alkaline, affecting aquatic life. i desperately need everyone who talks cutesy or silly as a quirk, for whatever reason you might do so, to understand that is still very possible to be rude no matter how twee and childish you're talking. in fact sometimes it's disrespectful specifically because you're being childish about it. the correct way to refer to your lab TA is "the TA", not "that lady", and it is not polite to ask how old someone is by asking "how many old do you has", nor is it polite to respond to their answer with "wow! you has a LOT of old!"

I don't remember if this was an actual argument at one point (I genuinely could have just imagined it), but I think it's worth addressing anyway because there are probably people out there who do believe similar ideas.
And that is: a viewpoint where the gods striking down Aeor for building the Factorum Malleus was akin to killing someone for having a gun in their house.
Because, like, no.
Aeor wasn't a protective parent keeping a gun (capable of killing anyone when fired) safely locked up in the home office in the event that someone breaks in. Aeor was a rogue city run by a militaristic, totalitarian government that had spent time, money, and resources to develop a nuclear-level weapon; one that's designed to exclusively target a group of people they want eradicated.
That weapon was never going to remain a precaution. That weapon was going to be put into use immediately.
The Downfall gods weren't criminals breaking into a house because they were paranoid their neighbours were going to kill them. They were a covert ops team sent to destroy something that was being built specifically to harm them and their family.
It just so happened that events unfolded the way they did in the tragic way that prequel stories do, where no matter what the characters try to do, fate decided that Aeor would fall.
