LMJ Spoilers:

I wasn’t super clear on the ending to LMJ; it seemed kind of rushed-through to me, so take this with a grain of salt. 

From what I remember, Ernest’s family had been betrayed by the Seven Dragons when he was a kid. Growing up, he planned on avenging his deceased parents. But then at the end of Case 12, the Dragons find out about his plan of revenge and realize he had changed his identity and that he is the long-lost son (or grandson?) of one of their friends. After he had been orphaned, the Seven Dragons had wanted to take care of him, but they could never find him. Ernest realizes his great mistake and begs their forgiveness, which they readily grant. Happy ending :)

I absolutely love shaking my hands or an object (specifically a pencil) when I'm excited, imagining stuff or thinking. It's become quite a part of me. I could sit there and be content for hours just twiddling a pencil in my fingers or shaking my hands loose enough for my fingers to snap together. I hardly even care what people in public think any more of it, I'm not gonna stop; it helps me function more than anything.

My belated Christmas gift to the Layton fandom

The Layton novels are now available in digital format so the first two novels are more accessible to translate and I screenshot every page from my iPad mini to get them.

I remembered playing it as a kid and I never actually knew there were games that werent Curious Village or Miracle Mask,,, So it was really great when I found out there were more! 1) This is going to sound weird but, honestly? I like being short. I rag on about it usually because being short has problems, but like... can you imagine being tall? Being unable to fit through doors and always worrying about hitting your head on the ceiling or whatever? Like, to all my tall bros... I’m so sorry fhsdjfgysdgfhsdg

2) I have a lot of confidence in myself as a human being, in general. And I know that’s something very, very rare, considering the people I follow and the fandom circles I’m in. I still have a long way to go in terms of, say, social stuff or job stuff or whatever, but I’ve learned that taking little steps to build up confidence is okay and it’s DEFINITELY okay to make mistakes. I’m really proud of that, and I hope I can help people get to that point too.

3) I’ve stopped being freaked out by being noticed online starting this year! ....Oh wait that’s also more my sideblog thing oops- but hfjsdgfydsgdh it applies to main too I guess? Before 2020 I would post a thing and then like. Never do anything else hfjsdhfydg. And that really sucked, it didn’t help me do anything at all because I was too scared to do anything. But now I’m over that and slowly acquainting myself with awesome, beautiful people even if we’ve never contacted each other directly, and it’s super cool! So I’m very proud and very thankful that I managed to do that this year.

4) Is it cheating to say I love my cat? Or I love that I love my cat? Because I love my cat. She is babey. I would die for my cat. ...... Okay no I won’t cheat hfjadsgyfdgf- my real 4th thing is that I eat healthy and I’m thankful for it. It sounds really chady or whatever but you honestly do get more zealous for life and living when you take care of your body and like- it’s not that I was completely living unhealthy before, but... well, when you live in cities and move every year, you don’t get the best diet available hfjsdgfghdfs

5) I have a balance of a scientific and creative perspective. Usually what happens is that I look at it from the creative perspective first (colour, shape, aesthetic, etc.) and then break down the science of it if necessary. That’s pretty dang cool if you ask me. And it ties into my philosphical/spiritual studies as well, because a lot of the symbolism behind certain things, colours, etc. conveys a universal or semi-universal meaning to whatever we have that makes us all who we are and just- that is cool. It’s very cool. I love that I’m able to do all this and gain spiritual sustenance from it.

We’ve had a lot of great analysis of LMJ this week, thanks to metas written by @laytonscreencaps and @chewyloon. I’ve been looking closely at Katirelle’s dream sequence (video here) recently and noticed something different about Hershel that contrasts what we’ve seen through the entire series. 

Here’s the last time we saw him:

And here’s the next time we saw him.

Obviously, in the second scene, he is wearing his hat again. But look closer:

His shirt collar is down instead of up, as we have always seen it. At first I thought this was just a minor change in his character design in this one scene; the animator temporarily forgot how his shirt normally looks, maybe. But then I looked at the first promo shot:

His shirt collar was down here, as well. 

This most likely doesn’t mean anything; years have passed since Unwound Future, so Hershel is bound to change his normal outfit somewhat. It just caught my eye because the shirt collar change is the ONLY change in his outfit; you would think that, if Hershel was going to change something about his normal clothes, he might change his jacket, his shoes, or even add something. But his shirt is the exact same color and texture as before, the only change being the collar. 

This makes me think: could the LMJ Hershel we’ve seen so far actually be a master of disguise: Don Paolo, Jean Descole, or someone else? Hershel’s impersonator could have gotten all of the details of Hershel’s appearance exactly, except for his type of shirt collar. The fact that LMJ Hershel’s eyes have always been covered by his hat brim doesn’t make me feel any better.

I know I am probably reading too much into this and that this most likely has no significance. But Level 5 is usually a stickler for details and when something changes, it usually is for a reason.

Uh an LMJ theory of things to come

Cookie: To get to the point, I think something has happened to Luke, and that this is the reason for Layton’s disappearance. 

I guess I’ll start with the Lady Layton trailer. It starts with a rather solemn montage replaying all of the adventures that Layton and Luke went through. This probably could mean nothing, maybe it’s just meant for nostalgia, but to me it looked oddly tragic. I mean, I think Eternal Diva did the same thing but seemed a lot more peppier than this. It then has this picture:

Which is fine in and of itself. But It’s something we’ve never really seen before, and it especially feels odd because of that weirdly sad montage. Not to mention it doesn’t fade to the next part immediately, it just...drifts away from you while slowly fading away to the sound of the violin just fading as well. So the first trailer of the Layton’s Mystery Journey game (almost) starts with this image, and the end of the actual game(i think when you solve all of the puzzles or reach the end of the game), you get this

I find it interesting that they chose to mirror the past image with this one. And with Layton acting so strange, it makes it seem like something bad did happen. In fact, in all depictions of Layton in Lady Layton is very disturbed and distant. Kinda like how he was in his titles because of Claire’s death and Randall’s “death”. I know he changed by the end of UF, but it’s shown that Layton does grow more reserved because of the tragedies that befall him. Also, about the previous picture of Layton and Luke

It returns in the anime trailer.

(I noticed that when you scroll on the Youtube bar you can see that these white lines form a phrase of some sort, and it looks likes the same letters used when Layton was starting to face Katrielle. If someone could translate it, I’d appreciate it.)

Not only does it appear more glitchy and darker than the previous time it was shown, but it’s only there for a quick second, as if they don’t want you to notice it right away. But why would they tease this image again? If it was only used in the trailer for The Millionaires Conspiracy, I would’ve just assumed that they’re just hitting the feels because of our love for the series. But it’s back again, looking more creepier than before. In fact, all of the disturbingly solemn layton moment(his appearance in Lady Layton and the montage) are cranked up in this trailer. Goodness I feel like they’ re teasing this almost as much as Layton’s disappearance. 

The reason I assume that this has to deal with Luke, is the fact that so far, everything wrong with Layton has already been shown. He’s missing. But the image parallels and the sad montage are not explained, as well as Layton’s behavior. Not to mention the image is of Layton and Luke. It’s not a group picture or anything to commemorate the series as a whole it’s just the two primary protagonists who have been in every adventure from this series. And something is wrong besides just the Professor disappearing.  Besides his teased relationship with Kat, we don’t know what’s happened to him.

Also, if Luke supposedly died, then it explains why Layton seems so sheltered and disturbed. It could also be a reason why Layton is gone. Maybe Luke died and Layton, feeling guilty about it, left to figure it out. And maybe while he was trying to figure it out, something happened to him. 

And I think I know what would be a good place where this could have happened.

Luke’s letter in Unwound Future. He said that something weird was happening in his new home. A mystery that would be perfect for the great Professor Layton. I know that Level-5 made that letter without actually intending to continue the series. But in my opinion it would be a great starting point to start off this tragedy, especially since leaving this supposed adventure out would be a little weird. Also, @chewyloon mentioned in her theory of Luke being Kat’s father that in UF the statue of Layton and Luke stated that the boy succumbed to his illness and died, and like the letter Level-5 probably didn’t think much of it but while starting up the series again could’ve been a great point to use again. Assuming Layton didn’t go, or maybe he did but it didn’t change Luke’s fate, Luke is probably dead or maybe he’s assumed to be. Layton, feeling that maybe it’s his fault, is withdrawn and sad, even after maybe adopting Alfendi and Kat(in Mystery Room, Barton calls Layton to help him with a mystery, which makes it seem like Layton hasn’t done a case in awhile, and Luke’s death would be a understandable reason not to) and later leaves maybe because he figured out there’s more to Luke’s death than he initially assumed or maybe Luke isn’t dead. And after Layton left, he never came back.

That’s what I would have done if I was Level-5 and had planned for something to happen to Luke.
