i’m going to go on a small rant about dragon ball super Goku

so the first ever dragon ball show i watched was dragon ball super cause at that time all i had was a school chromebook and an illegal website (😭) which had very limited anime to watch.

they only had dragon ball super. no dragon ball, dragon ball z or gt. so yeah, i started off getting into the dbz fandom by watching the worst series in the entire franchise (according to other people)

at the beginning i was super confused, like, “what?? he has a son? a wife?? two sons?? am i missing something?” but i pushed through and i absolutely fell in love with dbs.

it was that series that got me into dragon ball and everything, and i have a huge amount of respect towards it. it has some pretty good arcs, especially the TOP arc. but as i went back towards the beginning, watched og db and dbz, i started to realize that dbz Goku was not the same as dbs Goku.

Goku. isn’t. stupid.

well yeah, he’s still kinda dumb (and i find that absolutely adorable), but not to the point where he doesn’t understand the most basic concepts of anything that isn’t fighting.

i refuse to believe that his level of understanding is that of like a 5 year old toddler.

so to make super a bit more bearable, i have a little headcanon.

Goku just acts dumb because he finds everyone’s reactions hilarious.

like in ep 42, where Beerus disguises himself as Monaka (probably filler but still), i like to think he pretended not to know that Beerus was actually in the costume and internally had a wheezing fit seeing the destroyer put on an uncomfortable outfit.

actually, i think he just went along with the entire “Monaka is the strongest warrior i’ve ever fought” thing because it’s funny seeing Beerus panic

also Chichi’s probably in on his little secret too.

i saw a lot of people posting about their favourite Dragon Ball moment and the Bansho Fan saga, even if it IS a filler arc is my all time favourite....mostly because I have a huge soft spot for Chi Chi and Goku as a couple.

I /also/ saw people wondering about what if Chi had Ox horns like the proper Ox Princess she is and I thought that'd be actually really cute so--

Chi-Chi the princess of Fire Mountain and the daughter of the Ox-King had heard dark tales about the infamous Monkey King of the West. Tales speak about of his unimaginable power and his tyrannical reign over the entire western side who fear, hate, and respect him as he was too powerful to be defeated in combat. She had heard of their tales. How they filled her very soul with fear and loathing with the tyrannical fiend and how she vow she would become stronger and end his reign of terror once and for all...

...and yet here she is, Chi-Chi wearing her mother's old wedding dress, holding a bouquet of flowers in her hands, staring at the old stern-faced priest, and standing next to the Monkey King of the West, whom will be her husband.

“Goku?” Chi-Chi whispered, breaking the silence.

Goku peered over at her with a raised eyebrow and hummed.

“Are you okay?” She asked with genuine concern and her question surprised Goku. Caught off guard, Goku wasn’t sure how to respond. No , he wasn’t alright and staring at Chi-Chi once more reminded him of his nightmare this morning. Coupled with being ready to take on the androids at a moment's notice, Goku was not doing well. And Chi-Chi saw through his facade.

“You haven’t been yourself since this morning.” Chi-Chi pressed forward, causing Goku to duck his head. He knew he couldn’t hide it anymore as he ran a hand through his hair. Finally, after a tense pause, his strong voice finally broke through.

“I had a dream…about my wife.”

“Oh, was it a good memory?” Chi-Chi asked with curiosity.

“No, it was a nightmare. The dream was-I can’t even describe it. And having the androids so close again today….it was just like that day that I lost Chi-.” His rambling suddenly stopped and Goku cursed himself for revealing too much. What was he thinking?

Chi-Chi abruptly froze at the mention of her name and suddenly everything clicked. Goku’s reaction when they first saw each other at Bulma’s, his persistence to protect her, how he stared at her in shock and confusion this morning.

Silence sat uncomfortably between them as they tried to figure out who should break the quietness. Finally, Chi-Chi took a step forward, asking with a soft voice.

“Goku…was I your wife in your time?”
