Guys, I’ve read the Wild Robot
Tumblr media
And let me tell you, if I hadn’t recently taken a Children’s Literature class in college, I would’ve said this was the best middle-grade book I’ve read since elementary/middle school. I almost read this book in one night (I was sleepy 😴) like I couldn’t put it down.
The heart behind this book is astounding and it never shies away from showing complex and difficult concepts. You will fall in love with Roz and her gosling son along with all of the other animal on the island.
If you’ve got younger ones, I highly recommend reading this to them or having a little book club moment with them. However, be prepared for whatever hard questions may come your way (i.e. circle of life and climate issues). You know your child and how much they can handle/understand. If you’re like me and much older, it’s a quick read and a great way to finish off a long day. It’s a part of a trilogy and you bet I’m patiently waiting for my hold on a copy at the library.
If the movie is anything like the book (which, given a rewatch of the trailer, it’s looking like so), we are in for a special treat.

HELP!
I’m in my big ole final history class and I need a big research topic and I think I’m doing it on children history literature in the US.
I was a huge fan of American Girl as a child so that’s going to be the biggest lense, but right now in the us there’s a big to sanitize history for children push by right wing politics which is why I want to talk about it
I’ll also be going through the Dear America series, and probably some magic treehouse.
I would love if anyone mentioned other historical children’s literature and if you want, why you liked or didn’t like it, thoughts, etc
But ESPECIALLY my non-American friends. These books I like (American Girl, Dear America) are by nature American centric
US politics are very very different from a lot of places but I was wondering if there’s anything similar for other countries?
Thank you!

For all their positive connotations, curiosity and a strong will are traits that parents rarely tolerate well in their children. As the Grimms remind us in the tales they recorded, curiosity goes hand in hand with defiance and therefore often becomes the trait that parents find most irritating. That fact alone does much to account for the vast numbers of children's stories that have sprung up in various cultures about the hazards of curiosity. The very genre “cautionary tale,” while often warning of quite legitimate dangers, usually really aims to deter children from being too inquisitive about the world they inhabit and deviating in any way from behavioral norms. [. . .] Recognizing the advantages of a docile child, caregivers create a host of monsters that discourage children from engaging in daredevil behavior while also absorbing the blame for any prohibitions issued. The economy of the cautionary tale operates in such a way as to provide maximum advantage to its teller.

How did I ever think the British Children’s Writer Jacqueline Wilson was straight?:
Jacqueline Wilson describing a boy character: He had dark hair and bright blue eyes, with a friendly smile and stylish clothes.
Jacqueline Wilson describing a girl character: She resembled a goddess, with golden curls that reached her waist, shimmering in the sunlight. Her emerald eyes burned bright with a courageous fire which matched her powerful smirk which left me feeling weak at the knees. Her midnight blue velvet crop top revealed her slim, flawless stomach which was the same ivory hue as the rest of her body, as if she were a priceless diamond.
It’s an exaggeration, sure, but can you tell me I’m wrong?
