Via @voltashow 🙌🏾 THE AESTHETICS OF MATTER / Curated by Mickalene Thomas @mickalenethomas and Racquel Chevremont @racquelchevremont for VOLTA NY 2018. Christie Neptune @cnvisualart 🎨 (presented by Rubber Factory @rubberfactoryny, New York) unveils her new series, ‘Unpacking Sameness’, a counter-narrative critiquing the social ills of white supremacy, colorblind ideologies, and fragility, via a mixed-media process that explores double consciousness and positions the artist’s body in space. A resident artist at @smackmellon (Brooklyn) and a Van Lier Fellow, Neptune’s interdisciplinary practice encompasses video and performance alongside static works. image: Christie Neptune, ‘She Fell From Normalcy – The Break’ (from the series “Eye of The Storm”), 2016, Video still and pigment print, 11 x 17 in. 👏🏾 Portrait courtesy of the artist. 💁🏾‍♀️ . . #supportblackart #christieneptune #voltany2018 #unpackingsameness #theaestheticsofmatter #video #contemporaryart #collage #blackart #blackartist #visibilitymatters #artlovers #artfair #contemporaryart

You can only see where you're going when looking backward. I am wrapping up the Constructs and Context Relativity series and enjoying the revelations of reflection. I've been writing a lot about the works, and through review, I've discovered new entry points and perspectives to approach each iteration. Iteration and Artistic Content: 1. Constructs and Context Relativity I : Material constructions in space and the activation of historical cultural memory through performance 2. Constructs and Context Relativity II: ephemeral/systemic constructions that inform one’s spatial perception 3. Constructs and Context Relativity III: Spatial practices in ethnic vernacular spaces/ Dancehall and my father’s lived experience in conceived space
