If anyone is curious as how my recent game as the Celts in Civ 3 went, I recorded the map time lapse and other "game over" screens.

TL;DR: Persia stomped me with a culture victory.

Once I defeated the Aztecs, securing exclusive control of my starting and made contact with the outside world, I was able to progress fairly quickly in tech. From 1800 to 2000, I grew my empire substantially by conquering Spain, the Maya, and France. I was pretty much equal with the other great powers technologically, except for Persia (who refused to trade any techs to me). The rest of us were stuck in the Industrial Revolution while Persia was in the modern era!

I think I'll return to Civ V next.

Civ3 was my first Civilization game, and the main reason I got it was the box art made me think it had giants in it.

Does anyone have any ideas why playing a specific steam game (Civ3) without cloud saves, not playing multiplayer, would always crash my wifi internet on my desktop (but not on my laptop, works fine when I play there) while it's running? As soon as I quit, the wifi comes back

big sad that I can't seem to functionally play Civ3 on my new computer. yes I know it's the world's oldest game but I bought it on Steam and it's supposed to be functional and it makes me feel calm to play it in a way the newer versions of the game don't

the game actually plays fine but when I go to play it, the Windows 11 taskbar refuses to hide and disappear and cuts off some pretty vital shit at the bottom and I have spent hours trying to find a fix only for none of them to work :(

it's lame man I've been playing this game for... *checks* 22 years now and it just finally went kaput

The Civ3 AI will sometimes start moving its troops through your territory en masse, daring you to complain that this constitutes a casus belli. I opted not to fight.

Partly because their 60 units (some outside screenshot) had a much greater concentration of force while my army was invading France.

Partly because AI units in foreign territory like this, not having signed a Right of Passage agreement, do not benefit from railroad movement. Their army was moving at walking speed across my empire and contributing nothing to their war but consuming upkeep for a long time.

I played Civ to death up to version 4, but it started going downhill in 5, and then 6 was full of woke parts and modders trying to fix it up (the female models used were quite hideous, for example) ... And civ 7 just plonked out like something out of the rear end of a dementia patient who forgot their nappy. There was no hype for it. People are still complaining about problems with Civ 6 that were never fixed (crashes or endless loops - especially if you have city states, and it alll grinds infinitely slowly in the later game without any apparent reason, to the point some claim it was a particular patch that did it, but no-one is sure). It was a great game. At it's time Civ 1 was one of the best games of the world. People still love the theme music from Civ4, and Leonard Nimoy's narration is unmatched. But I don't know what went wrong. Maybe Sid's influence waned, and the folk who wanted microtransactions and Sweet Baby Inc took over. Who knows?

Civ2 had this - I had a lot of criticisms of Civ2, Civ3 was a lot better, but this aspect was fun and that women was hot.

Notice almost all the women were gorgeous in Civ4? It's because they understood that most customers are heterosexual, and don't want to see a dick in the panties - strange, but true! Hatshepsut was such a cutie, but always seemed upset by something. Oh, but when she smiled, the sun came out.

Catherine, on the other hand, was a total flirt, and smiled often, because she was imagining just how good it would feel hearing your breath gurgling after she stuck the knife in. Stilll .... worth ... it ....

I think it was civ 3 which started the ability to upgrade all units of a given type at the same time, and I think it was civ 5 that they removed it for no apparent reason. It's utterly tedious to upgrade and choose which experience ranks a unit will have all the time. It's a weird thing to overlook. And don't me started on how awkward they made building a train line. Really, what the hell were they thinking?

The official trailer for the new Civilization 7 game has the now-obligatory black woman with a British accent leading the Mongol army. They're attempting to do a funny skit, but it's just so bad, and comes across as contemptuous of their customer base.
