this is pre all movies & lillian’s marriage when she and ee share their first kiss. the lily pond is their place away from the clamily and craziness of both their lives. lillian dropped ee’s wand in while larking about and then had to wade in after it. in all the faffing and exclamation after from ee she gives into feelings and kisses her. she doesn’t know ee’s already been tasked by Lillian’s parents to find her a husband.

this was an open tag from @radley-writes and i haven’t shared much from my wips in a while so i decided to kinda snatch it lol.

(TW for some mild body horror)

Mother shines like a pale beacon in the muggy black of the church. Thick strands of hair cling to Agnes’s face, to her neck, and sweat runs down her back. Her palms stick clamily to the rotting wood and she backs away away away again, as the thing begins to lurch forward on all fours, black fluid dripping from mouth and ears and eyes, boiling and desperate to be set free. Then her back scrapes against cool stone and she knows there’s nowhere left to run. Nowhere left to hide.

something from the ghost story! finally!! there’s an awful lot of running in the first few chapters but i liked the descriptions i used in this paragraph a lot :)

HILL

The person is silent for a long moment, letting the blood from their nose drip slowly towards their chin, and meets Agnes’s eyes with a new look in the shifting gray mess of their gaze. It’s something almost bordering on interest instead of cold, open hostility.

“Where are you from?” They question, the barest hint of wonder creeping into that chilling voice. They look her up and down in an all-to familiar way, judging, appraising, picking her apart piece by piece.

i kinda had to reach for these last two (both from the ghost story) but i just really wanted to share some stuff, and ESPECIALLY excerpts with This Character specifically bc they might be one of my favourites i’ve ever written lol

HATE

She was always going to do whatever they asked. From the very beginning. What did resistance matter when this stranger could tear away control of her body as easily as the men in white had torn her from Papás arms? What did it matter when she had nowhere else to go?

“What are you going to do?” Tell me so I know what to do.

aaand here’s the last one! agnes is definitely one of the most interesting protagonists i’ve had bc she’s motivated pretty much purely by her desperate need to survive at all costs. but her desire for self preservation does not necessarily equal selfishness, and she’s definitely one of the kindest, empathetic, and emotionally-driven characters in the entire book (for better or for worse),,, it’s just a really fun dichotomy to play with sfdrfggh
