I look forward for when my ear infection is gone. And to continue developing a body and hair ritual out of love.
#i have had an ear infection since Saturday. it was diagnosed on Monday and I was given ear drops.#Plot twist: the ear drops could not reach the infection. so the infection worsened. I went to a walk in again on Wednesday to have this#revealed. there is so much pus in my ear that my ear drum cannot be visualized. So I got a sick note for the rest of the week (doctor was#pretty insistent that I should not take just one day off#but the rest of the week!#anyway I look forward to feeling better. i want to be sure I take care of my hair as it gets longer.#so I have my tried and true jack59 citrus curly hair shampoo and conditioner bar (conditioner can be left as a leave in)#then I alternate a hair mask once a week. one is hair strengthening. one is hair softening.#i also have my satya for psoriasis but once a month I have to use a clarifying shampoo because satya has beeswax and leads to build up#I have two other hair/scalp oils that I use as pre treatment until I can figure out the minimal amount of oil to be useful#also during showering I have a scalp brush to really get my shampoo in my scalp and a playlist explicitly for showering#there are other things I plan to get like a silk bonnet abd microfibre towel from curle shopp#and I may try the LOC method for my hair as it gets longer#I have slowly been adding other techniques for my hair too#and then for my body I made a vody e#a body exfoliant that's more like a body polish and looks like ground beef#and then of course soap and a body balm that has calendula and other stuff#not to mention some face care. Alas#my face does best with NOTHING but skin cancer does not give a shit about that thus I must clean my face after sunscreen#I look forward to having energy again to do proper self care things. such and paying attention to thinks and cleaning dishes and cooking too#my post

OMGGGG I CAN’T KEEP THINKING ABOUT DOING CARMY CURLY HAIR ROUTINE !
It live free in my head 😵‍💫
No because Carmy definitely agrees to it because he thinks it’s going to lead to shower sex. However when you instruct him to kneel down and lean under the bath tube faucet, it becomes clear that his fantasy was not going to happen.
He stays pretty quiet while you shampoo his hair with a clarifying conditioner. The feeling of your fingertips digging into his scalp releases a bunch of tension he didn’t know he was storing.
Carmy’s relieved when you finish rinsing out the conditioner treatment, though. His knees had started to ache from kneeling beside the tub. He mentally makes note to make sure you have a pillow under your knees the next time you blow him. He’s nothing if not a gentleman at heart.
“Okay, is that it?”
“Carm, that was just the wash! I still need to style your hair. Gotta make sure your curls stay nice and defined.”
“Do they not do that on their own?”
“Baby, you come home from work with such greasy hair that I don’t even think I can answer that for you.”
You bring out a leave in conditioner, a styling cream, a gel, and a mousse, sitting it in front of Carmy. “I need all of this?” Carmy asks.
“Yes. Yes you do. I wanna see how nice I can make your curls look!”
You spend the next 15 minutes applying the products into Carmen’s hair. He jumps a little when you put some mousse in your hand.
“Is that like? Foam? Why is it in a can like that?”
“It’s mousse. It helps with volume and definition. Look, it expands when you get some out. See?” You explain while you put some more in your hand.
Once you’re finished, you’re convinced Carmy’s hair looks the best it ever has. “Okay, Carm. What do you think? This is some of my best work.”
“Oh, shit! You did a good job. It doesn’t look so… puffy.”
The next day at work, Sydney and the rest of the staff definitely notices that Carmy’s hair doesn’t look like a rats nest like it normally does.

kenzieluvsnanami :: a wash day drabble (curlyhaired!reader) ☆ ✧✩₊˚.✧

thinking about wash day with my fave. the day every curly-haired girl dreads, comb getting caught in your dry, brittle hair as you rushed to get ready the day before, a sign that it was that time of the week.
with a reluctant huff, you would pull your sleepy body from the deviously snug sheets - gently lifting your husband's arm from where it had been resting, slung over your small frame to pull your body impossibly closer during the early hours of the morning.
it was now the early afternoon, a sunday of course. the only day the two of you really allowed yourselves to fully relax - no alarms, no plans… just peace.
well, that was until you had decided to leave wash day to the end of the week - your own procrastination desecrating the sanctity of sunday tranquility and replacing it with a slight irritability.
"honey...what are you doing?" his voice a couple octaves deeper from the lack of use; something that was soooo alluring to you, akin to a siren’s call in many ways, and how in that moment you would feel it luring you back into the cosy comfort of your shared bed, his solid arms, hmmmm….
but you couldn’t. because you still had to wash your hair.
you'd spin around and pull your bonnet off; wordlessly revealing your bone-dry hair - usual moist, defined curls being reduced to a ball of frizz.
"i see."
see whilst your husband didn’t have curly hair himself, he had definitely learnt a lot about it from your continual rants about the cost and effort of maintaining it; his thoughtful questions and observations being so endearing to you, his desire to understand further so he could better empathise and even help was something that truly meant a lot and actually brought the two of you closer together.
whilst he thought your hair always looked beautiful, in that moment he could understand that your hair was certainly in need of some…. tender love and care.
and in the mood you were currently in, it wasn’t certain that you were in the right mindset to be as careful as your hair as you would usually want to be.
wiping his eyes one last time, your husband would slip out of bed and amble towards you - hands outstretched as he settled them in your hair, lightly teasing out the larger knots with his fingertips.
"hmmm.. i remember you telling me that when your hair gets like this, you'd have to-" “wash it, yes i do ken” you would huff, feeling like an insolent child at the dire lack of patience you currently had but you couldn’t help it! the mere thought of having to go through all of the elaborate steps of your hair routine completely fatigued you.
without another word, your husband would take the assortment of products you were cradling in your arms and lead you to the bathroom.
"give me a second."
returning with a pillow, he would get you to sit on the bathroom floor; legs crossed on top of the pillow and your head rested on the edge of the bathtub.
"now, would the lady like a clarifying treatment or the usual hydrating shampoo?" he joked, a small smile forming on your face at the sight of your normally quite stoic husband playing pretend with you to stir you from your poor mood.
“…i think i’ll stick with my usual please” your eyes closing in complete bliss and relaxation as your husband turned on the shower head and began to wet your hair, the brittle strands alleviating under the downpour - becoming much more manageable.
skilled fingers would weave themselves into your hair, massaging shampoo deep into your flaky scalp; soft moans occasionally spilling out as he hit tender spots where the knots had been particularly tangled.
as he rinsed out the first wash of shampoo, you'd actually start to laugh; realising how overly melodramatic you were being over washday, forgetting how attentive and caring your husband was.
of course, he wouldn’t leave you to struggle on your own! whilst he may not always fully understand how to help, he was always willing to do anything for those he loved.
and that anything included the gentle drying of your now freshly washed hair, an old t-shirt collecting the excess water nicely as he helped you up back to the vanity in your bedroom.
"what did you want to do to your hair today, my love" he would murmur, pumping your leave-in conditioner into his palms, hands alternating between smoothing and scrunching your hair.
“well, i want to wear my hair out for the next couple days so what i normally do is just a couple of braids to keep my hair from frizzing too much and keep some definition
you could practically hear your husband's brain processing everything you just said, brows slightly furrowed as he glanced back down at your hair; deciding what tools would be best to help you.
he held up a wide tooth comb in one hand and a denman brush in the other. "these two will be alright then?"
you’d then smile and nod, his hands using the wide tooth comb to first part your hair into 6 neat grids; securing each with small hair clips. then he’d delicately detangle each section from tip to root, applying rosemary oil to the scalp and a dab of gel to the strands before braiding the section.
"is this okay?" he’d question after the first braid, not sure if his braiding skills were as strong as your own.
“it’s perfect baby, thank you”, your words of affirmation easing his uncertainty, movements noticeably more confident as he went around and finished the 5 other braids. the two of you discussing what your plans would be for the rest of the day, deciding on a filling brunch and movie marathon being the most optimum way to spend a sunday.
a light kiss to your forehead would signal the end of nanami's salon services, his eyes filled with admiration as you turned and beamed back up at him; wondering how you were able to get so lucky and end up with someone as special as him.

okay isaac’s hair has been getting long.
let’s say he starts using the readers expensive hair shampoo and products (bonus if reader has wavy or curly hair too [curl cream])
she starts noticing her bottles getting empty faster but doesn’t really care to find out why
until she’s showering w isaac
(nothing steamy, maybe reader was gonna go shower and isaac jokingly suggests they should shower together [like some “where’s my invite” shit 😭] and it’s a funny haha shower)
UNTILLL she notices him using GLOBS of shampoo and conditioner and she like is surprised but not really but doesn’t say anything until a podcast episode where she’s invited
she starts telling the story and isaac is like “what it makes my hair soft!”
they’re like joke arguing when larry goes “wait you guys shower together?” in a joke disgusted way and nick says “no wonder our water bill is so high”
ANYWAY SORRY FOR THE LONG REQUEST, I HAD A VISION AND I TRUST YOU TO BRING IT TO LIFE i love all your works 🫶🏼🫶🏼
I WILL TRY MY HARDEST
you’re sitting on the podcast couch between mock and isaac as they talk about their hair. grunk is going more into detail about his hair routine when you laugh, immediately remembering a story regarding hair products.
“why’s y/n giggling? what’s goin’ on?” tanner points out. you stifle your giggle, looking around at your friends and boyfriend. even with his mask and glasses on you can see the realization hit isaac’s face as he remembers exactly what story you want to bring up. “y/n—okay, she’s gonna tell a story—and i want to clarify, i wasn’t aware how expensive the products were,” isaac defends himself.
“huhhh? what’d you do?” larry asks, leaning forward. “can i explain it?” you question and isaac just throws his arms up and shrugs. you roll your eyes, “okay so, i have a bunch of expensive hair products and for a bit i was noticing them just like….depleting. like it was being used. i thought i was losing my shit until isaac and i were showering—nothing, like, just don’t be weird—“
“WHA—“
“oh god.”
larry and yumi speak, covering their face.
“DONT BE FUCKING WEIRD!” you yell through a laugh, “i turn around and fucking mr. isaacwhy over here is putting globs of MY shit into his hand. into his big ass hands!”
“it makes my hair so soft though!” isaac yells, hands still in the air.
“okay, mine too! that’s why i use it, asshat—“
“wait!” larry throws his hands up, “you guys shower together! oh my god!” he jokes. “that’s what happens when you date someone, LARRY,” isaac comments, “to be fair, i bought her more.”
“is that why our water bill is so damn high?” nick asks, staring right at you and isaac. your cheeks burn up, “we WERENT DOING ANYTHING—“
“uh huh. sure. yeah.”

Tumblr media
TOMMYINNIT
absolutely loves your hair
he loves playing with it & he loves losing his hands in the density
he never asks to style your hair or anything because he doesn't know shit about it, but he likes being walked through how you care for it
at one point he randomly blurts out "you know, I've never seen you style your hair before"
"What, do you want me too?"
you guys have this whole little (civilized) conversation about your hair and how you prefer to wear it down instead of trying to fight with it
he gets interested if he can try and style it himself for you because he thinks you'd look so awesome with some styles
you shrug and let him
he does some simple stuff, needing your help to braid and whatever
he does a waterfall braid, then tries out some small, simple updos and two French braids
after that you go outside while the sun is sitting and take a bunch of pretty pictures of each other
he absolutely loves your hair, natural or styled
he loves learning about how you take care of it and you let him help you do so as well
he just likes watching you do stuff with your hair in general, and likes asking questions on what everything does
such a sweetheart fr
RANBOO
bro you literally saved their dead, fried ass hair /lh
it first started over the fact that you pointed out how fried their hair looked and that they needed to try new products so they took advice from you, obviously
literally spent 5 hours in the bathroom teaching him all about the products you use and what they do for your hair
and obviously they'd work different for both of you because you have totally different hair, but it'd still definitely help his hair
you introduce him to some more clarifying shampoo and massage-in cream/lotion to help his hair not get really dry or overly greasy and excentuate the fluffininess of their natural texture and the layers in their haircut
genuinely doesn't trust anyone with his hair other than you
always asks you questions about his hair, considering you know best
he likes watching you take care of your hair as well, like when you massage your scalp with oil or detangling, or diffusing it after a shower
he also helps you with a lot of this because he genuinely wants to and reaching the back of your head is a struggle sometimes
like when/if you have to section it and clip it up, he'll be there with the hot pink clips and a dream
you teach him all about different combs and he just nods the whole way through
he did actually retain that information
tweeting out shit like "ranboo just learned what a wide tooth comb is today, #parenting #momlife #dadlife #millenial"
FREDDIE BADLINU
loves learning about your hair texture
he also loves taking care of it for you
if you're too sick or tired, just sit down in the bathtub
he's got the detachable shower head, a towel, your products, and a dream
a dream to just make you sit down for 3 seconds and chill, God damn
anyways, you teach him all about the different products you use, how often you use them, why you use them, etc etc
you let him play around with your hair sometimes, but not that much
he likes braiding like 3 strands of your curls together to make some little braids and whatever to frame your face but that's really it
when you're cuddling and stuff, he totally like massages your scalp and loves getting his hands tangled in your curls
it's like a nap when you wake up with lines on your arms/face and your mouth is all dry like you've been drooling
best feeling ever
"wait, what's the difference between almond oil and coconut oil again?"
"the diffuser is this thing, right?"
after a while, he knows all the words like a second language
he ends up getting bored one day and doesn't wanna do the dishes so he decides to organize all your stuff for you
you already had little system but after a while you just threw things back in the general vicinity where they belonged so he was like "eh fuck it this is more fun than doing dishes"
he makes sure to sort by the order you use them and how often instead than in color order which
you walk in, see him organizing and just walk out bc no way in hell were you disturbing him nor were you gonna organize it yourself LMAO
QUACKITY
he really doesn't understand all the different products and tools but he does his best to learn
he just likes helping you take care of it and stuff
he notices literally all your combs and brushes are like breaking at the seams so he's like "fuck it I'll buy you new, more high quality ones"
he's a gift giver/acts of service guy what can I say
he makes sure they're either in black, white, or your favorite color, whatever you prefer
even gets you a new water bottle for backup bc the old one barely functioned
also reorders anything when you're running low asap
will gladly spend 200 dollars on hair care products and replacing old stuff
your happiness matters more than how much money he has in his pocket to him
also helps you organize all your stuff once you get a good little setup going
deadass streams it too
"wait, why aren't we doing it by color?"
"Why would that make sense? you always organize this kinda stuff by the order in which you use it"
"Okay Hermione Granger"
"bro what"
the silence 💀
he barely knows the difference between a fine tooth comb and a master sketcher but it's okay
don't even try to ask him the difference between all the different types of oils
literally gets embarrassed like "no! I knew that, I thought you were talking about something else!"
he's a lawyer and a streamer, not a salon professional dude 😭🙏
NIKI NIHACHU
she loves your hair no matter what you do with it
she loves being able to comb through it with her fingers or help you just tie it back if you're gonna get messy or stream for a bit
don't even worry about having to take care of it out of the shower, she's got you
she knows the whole routine front to back
you guys share some products
especially combs and brushes but duh
it's a mix of black, purple, and y/f/c LMAO
she frequently disinfects all your combs and brushes and everything for you too
after time she labels all the combs and brushes and whatnot so just in case you guys don't mix anything up, especially if you'd rather just not share certain things just in case which is totally fine!
she loves putting clips in your hair to push the front bits away from your face
she's got those cute, little, silver star ones
absolutely loves the smell of the stuff you put in your hair
when you're snuggling, she'll always hide her face in like the crook of your neck or in your hair cause it's genuinely soothing
she also likes braiding 3 strands to just frame your face and to add a cute little sign of her so you carry her around all day basically
FOOLISH GAMERS
has no idea of what's ever going on in the bathroom
but he'll help you if you need it anyways
"whats this one for again?"
he's got a hairbrush, a comb and some clips for any backup random shit
he has no idea what eggshell infused keratin etc etc means (I was trying to thing of my shampoo but can't remember other than the eggshell part LMFAO)
he does like asking questions about everything and learning what it does
"Why do you only use some like less than others?"
he's just here for the learning experience
notices some tattered tools in drawers/cupboards so for your birthday he gets you a whole new set of stuff from a really fancy brand
"Holy shit, how much did this cost??"
the silence afterwards was SO LOUD before you heard quackity literally cackling behind you
tweeting shit like "foolish just learned what a rat tail comb is. holy shit" and "foolish just learned about shrinkage today?"
in his defense, he never really though about shrinkage that much, he totally didn't put it into perspective and forgot your hair is technically double/triple the length of what he usually sees
like you'll pull it away from your face to demonstrate and he's just like "damn how long have you been growing your hair??? how have I not noticed?"
also a photographer when it comes to you
loves posting pics where your hair is a defining subject and just really perfects your presence and beauty <3

Headcannon #5 (sevxfemale...i think I made it vague enough aside from the obvious she pronouns)
Severus is a supportive bf who let's you practice on him during your cosmetologist training. He uses his knowledge to create potions that are compatible with the chemicals you use. He got the idea after noticing you get a chemical burn on your hand because the gloves were crappy quality and tore during a hair bleach appointment.
🌠it was summer break and Severus was walking down the street. A sneer on his face from having to do what he currently was enroute too. The potion experiment he was working on went awry, leading him to have wonky hair. Couldn't fix it with potions or magic. After a week of trying he begrudgingly caves in to get it cut at a muggle hair salon.
🌠He searched for the cheapest place and found the academy about 20 min from his current place. (There was no way in hell he was going to shell out almost 3 galleons worth of muggle money for a damn hair cut)
🌠walking in, he tells the receptionist that he was there for a haircut. The receptionist chirped that it would be discounted due to the students being on the clinical floor for that day. (Severus is happy that it would be cheaper than he originally expected. How much more could a student botch it than it already was)
🌠the receptionist has him sit in the waiting area and pulls the name from the list. It was y/n turn for a live haircut.
🌠y/n was at their clinical station working on a faux curly perm when they here the receptionist call their name for a service ticket.
🌠y/n walks out from the side clinic and sets up their station for the haircut. Once satisfied y/n walks up to the waiting area "Severus Snape" they call. "Hello sir, I am y/n. I will be your hair dresser for today. Follow me"
🌠severus looked up from the pocket book he brought with him to read while he waited. Looking up at his name being called, his breath stuttered at the person before him. Standard height, sun-kissed skin, dark hair braided, dark eyes, curvy built. He could only nod and follow y/n to the station.
🌠y/n adjusts the stylist chair so he faces the mirror. "OK, what are we doing today for a hair cut? Are we evening it only or going for a style all together?" After a bit of back and forth, semi irritating him, severus gave y/n creative freedom as long as he didn't look worse and it was maintenance free.
🌠y/n combed her fingers through his hair letting it cascade down naturally. Noticing the the heaviness on the strands, not oil per say but definitely something. "May I wash your hair? Its complimentary and totally optional. I can feel a heaviness to it, not oil or grease" she hurriedly assured. "I need to see how it falls without whatever build up is in it"
🌠Severus felt embarassment crawl up his throat before he ruthlessly squandered it. Y/n had yet to express disgust at the condition of his hair and had not stopped carding though it.
🌠nodding his consen, y/n escorts him to the sink and has him lean back in the seat. Grabbing a clarifying shampoo with a light moisture one, y/n went down town on getting rid of the build up.
🌠Severus was in heaven, y/n had the right amount of nails and pressure against his scalp. He had to several times bite his tongue to keep himself from moaning. Y/n started by his temples with rubbing little circles, slowly and thoroughly working the clarifying product it. It smelled of mint and ginger.
🌠tension he didn't even know he had melted away, his eyes sliding closed against his will. Y/n grinned knowingly and made no remark or idle chatter. It took 3 clarifying washes before she was satisfied. The light moisture shampoo adding vitality and bringing out the little silver streak.
🌠Severus felt a light nudge and his name being called softly. His eyes fluttered open, flushing with shame, he had been so relaxed his fell asleep. Y/n simply smiled, understanding shining in her chocolate eyes. Coaxing him back to her station, she gently detangles his hair before sectioning it.
🌠studying how the uneven side laid, she opted to give him what she loved to call a gentleman's hair cut. "May I tuck your collar down? That way it doesn't end up with as much hair pricklies. I can tuck a towel around if not."
🌠Severus watched at y/n glided through his hair cutting section by section until it was all done. Y/n grabbed her hair dryer and dried it. "If you wish to grow it back out, you will need to get maintenance trims every few weeks to avoid the weird outgrown stage. Even if it's just to soften the edges. Most times around the ears it will do a flip outward" she explained. "What do you think?" Severus looked into the mirror again. His eyes refused to accept what he saw.
🌠the cut she gave him fell in a feathery wave, naturally away from his face. You would never know it had been botched. It flowed very well and had lift and life to it that he hadn't seen since he was a child. The streak of gray hair blended seamlessly as if he purposely placed it there. He literally aged backwards. He looked every bit of a 38 yr old instead of nearly 50.
🌠Severus was assured that it would be maintained free. If it began to get weighed again all he needed was a good clarifying treatment every other month or a good shampoo every other week. He carded his fingers through it, saw and felt the difference as well as the lack of product. There was nothing and his hair flowed and laid flawlessly.
🌠he thanked y/n for their time and cut. He cashed out, leaving her a hefty tip. Total cost was 15.00 but he gave her a 50.00 on top of that.
🌠walking out he heard the other students complain at Y/N. How were they going to get their live men's haircut marks if she kept stealing all the good ones. "Guys I don't pick them, take it up with janelly. She's the one that hands out the tickets." That got Severus thinking. He wouldn't mind returning to her again. So with his mind made up he walked back and asked to schedule the appointment and what other services were offered.
🌠leaving with a brochure in hand his eyes glanced down the column of services y/n would be able to provide. Haircuts, color, facials, bread trimmings, waxing, curly perms, straightening perms, various hair treatments, manicures, pedicures, the list was almost endless.
🌠Every 6 weeks, Severus was back in Y/Ns chair for haircut or another. His newfound secret joy was the facials. His skin glowed, less wrinkles, and even his beard stopped growing in patchy.
🌠 Severus and y/n became friends. Severus would stop by almost every single day. He brought y/n food or coffee, anything really.
🌠During this, Severus unsurprisingly fell in love with Y/N. And when it got out that they were dating the others tore into y/n (age gap), until they saw how Severus selflessly volunteered so y/n could get marks. Waxing was like a super mild form of a crucio, poker face was flawless. He looked so cute with the curly perm in his hair. "Hey lambchop" you chortled out before softening the curl a bit. He looked good in waves.
🌠soon the others kept trying to convince y/n to let them borrow Severus. "Y'all quit asking me, ask him. It's his decision if he wants any of you to work on him" y/n scowled at the group. That led to a whole movement amongst them. Boyfriends, husbands, brothers, fathers, guy friends started showing up because Severus unknowingly raised the bar. Thus, the men came to 'protect' their women/men from his apparent scheme to make all of them look bad.
🌠y/n laughing into Severus's shoulder as the high pitched screams echoed from the waxing area of the clinic floor. Severus only rolled his eyes, the other men squirmed uneasily as they waited their turn.
🌠by the following year, he skips teaching class in October. Much to the surprise of Minerva. It was your graduation date. He showed up with huge bouquet of flowers. After your celebration he takes you by the hand and walks you to a different location. "Close your eyes" He says to.
🌠when you are allowed to open them, your eyes are met with a door and a big red bow. Severus had managed to set up a business, your very own salon. Muggle and not were welcomed in your salon. Those that made mean remarks where only allowed to schedule in the evenings on Mondays. Money was money.
🌠spa day didn't stop after your graduation. It was now a bi monthly thing where severus and you spoiled each other. Minerva too, after she experienced, hands from heaven according to Severus.

Curly hair care routine tips?
My biggest tip is to genuinely know what your hair characteristics are before trying techniques out. Is your hair low porosity or high porosity? What’s your curl type? Is it damaged from years of excessive heat or dye? Is it too long? A lot of popular methods didn’t work for me bc they were built for high porosity curls, but mine were low porosity. I think just knowing these basics saves you so much time in terms of what would be helpful to start experimenting with.
Once you know what you’re working with, follow people whose curls are similar to yours. Start with very basic products (leave-in conditioner and gel/mousse) and work your way up if need be. For low porosity hair, less is generally more. Deep-condition your hair. Do hair masks that complement your hair needs (does it need more protein? More moisture?). Get a heat cap so your curls can absorb the product better. Trim your hair every 3 months. If you wrap your hair in a towel after a shower, don’t do it w a standard towel—do it w either a microfiber towel or a t-shirt. Do not touch your hair while it’s airdrying. Getting a diffuser has been a game changer for me; my curls look so much bouncier whenever I diffuse. Learn different gel (or mousse) techniques to achieve different looks (gel placement matters). Get a Denman brush for extra definition & learn how to use it. Don’t forget to scrunch the crunch to break the gel cast once your hair is mostly dry. Get a silk pillowcase (this is also good for keeping your pm skincare products on btw).
A spray bottle is so necessary. Never style without a spray bottle on hand. If your curls are dry while you’re defining them w the Denman brush, for example, chances are they will come out frizzy. You want your hair soaking wet while you’re scrunching/defining.
Check the hardness of water in your city !! A lot of frizz could be owed to that. If possible, filter your bathroom water. If not, buy a hardness of water shampoo/conditioner (I like the Malibu C brand). You’ll hear a lot of advice saying that sulfate-free shampoos are the way to go—which is mostly accurate, but every now and then you’ll need to clean product buildup. For that it’s good to have a clarifying shampoo on hand.
Figure out what wash times are best for you. For me, I wash my hair every 2-3 days max. For others it’s best to do it weekly. It really depends on your curl type.
Experiment always !! I’m always trying out new things to see what’ll work best for my curls. I made a lot of progress, but there’s def more to go and I’m determined to reach the ultimate definition. Good luck <3

how do you care for your hair when you use heat on it? Like what steps/routine do you follow? Not necessarily products (although they're very welcome). It's hard to know what's good and what's not since your hairdresser, just like influencers, are most likely selling you something.
I changed my haircut recently and started using heat (it's kinda curly so I straighten it and then try to curl it a little) and it really changed me and got told so much that I had a glow up, so I think that's my best look and will try to keep doing it since it looks great on on me but I want my hair to be and stay healthy so that's why I'm asking you.
Thank you for this question, I loved digging through to make this post x
I am going to talk about prevention and solutions so you can fully protect your hair. Starting with protection, and I have to say it, don't use heat regularly. Ideally you would take a minimum of three/four day break between each use of heat and this is only if your hair is healthy. If the condition of your hair is not that healthy then I would suggest going even longer (once a week, every other wash etc) between each use. To further reduce how much heat you are using, I would reccomend not using heat to curl your hair. You can easily do heatless curls and because they have been so popular, you can find easy tutorials anywhere. You can use a bonnet/ protective hair styles to keep your hairstyle for longer to widen the gap between each heat usage.
Futhermore, I would look into learning how to refresh your style so you are not having to consistenly go back and redo your hair.
You said that you straigthen your hair more so I am presuming you are using iron for that. If you are, use heat protectant made for heating irons as they can differ from standard heat protectants.
Proper use of heat protectant:
Spray the heat protectant in sections. A lot of people just spritz heat protectant on the hair that is on the top and the whole section underneath has not been protected.
You can also spray teh heat protectant on your hairbrush and brush your hair with that. Make sure to cover your entire head, I find it works better to do this just before the section you are applying heat to.
For further scientific details here is a post by a chemist that I follow on the scienece of heat protection.
I would also invest in some split end serum/ smoothing serum to help nourish the ends of your hair and help prevent breakage. I highly reccomend the Kérastase Nutritive Nutri-Supplement Split Ends Serum. I have been using for a while and it has made my ends so much smoother and less frizzy looking. This is more preventative and it saves the tears of realising that the only thing that will save your hair is a big chop.
Aftercare
You need to make sure that you are getting rid of all the product build up in your hair and making sure it is clean. I would use a clarifying shampoo every second/third wash, depending on how much product you use and whether you live in a city etc... I find that using it every 4-5 washes works for me but that is because I barely use any product on my hair.
When it comes to coniditioning, there are two types: protein and moisturizing. A good routine has both but how much will depend on the porosity of your hair. Protien hair masks help with elasticity, whereas moisturising masks help with length and shine.
Tumblr media
I have seen chemists and hair care specialists reccomend fully deeply conditioning your hair before heat styling and for that a good moisturizing mask would do the trick. After this the general rules of hair care apply.

So my inbox currently contains over 1,600 messages. I am getting Very Overwhelmed, apologies to everyone who is waiting for me to get back to them.
Something I have spotted, though, is that far too many of these have a common theme. Of the top thirty currently sitting at the top of my inbox, 19 are questions about haircare and the CGM. Of those, 12 are exactly the same question - namely, "Is co-washing just washing with conditioner instead of shampoo?" - which I have answered multiple times in multiple different posts, all of which are in my "Hair" tag (the answer is yes, please stop asking).
The other 7 are different hair questions - but, all but one is something I have answered before, in most cases more than once. Again, in my "Hair" tag.
Babes. Loves. Silly rabbits.
I did not sign up to be customer support for CGM.
Listen; I love you all! And I don't mind people asking me novel questions, even, within reason (although I am about to come to that)! But it is not my job to provide this information, and it is absolutely not my job, obligation, responsibility or anything else to keep writing out the SAME INFORMATION again and again and again. It is certainly absolutely not my pleasure to do so, either. I have explained how the method works now. I have explained the sorts of things to avoid. I have recommended CG friendly products. I have tagged all of this.
If you're going to ask me about this stuff, for the love of all that's holy, would you PLEASE look through my damn hair tag first and save me the increasingly stressful task of opening my inbox and seeing another five variants of the exact same already-answered question in a single day. I am not here to provide you a service. I'm here to do you a favour - PLEASE do me one, and check you aren't very literally wasting my time first. As I say, I am more than happy to answer novel questions on this! I'm also happy to clarify if I've worded something in a confusing way! But identical process questions for the seventeenth time in a week is starting to feel disrespectful.
But, I have to also say:
I am just Some Guy on the internet. I am not a professional. I have joked that I am not a Hairxpert, and you've all gone "Lol, yeah, not a Hairxpert, we get it - anyway, what products in America are good? What's your advice for <hair type you don't have?> If I live in an area with hard water (unlike you), what should I do?"
I am Not A Professional.
If you need specialist advice, YOU NEED TO GO AND FIND A SUPPORT GROUP. Buy the handbook, like I did! Go and find one of the hundreds of CGM websites that are free to use! Find a sub-Reddit! These will be full of people who actually are professionals, and will be able to answer these questions. I cannot tell you how best to adapt the method I use for type 4 curls, because I don't have those; you need a professional, or a support group with people who have type 4 curls. I cannot tell you the best styling and drying techniques for pixie cut curls, because my hair is down to my ass; you need a professional, or a support group of curly people with pixie cuts. I cannot tell you the best products to use on a remote island nation I have never even visited; you need a professional, or at the very least, a neighbour.
In fact, as an addendum to that last one, I have now been asked by six different people on separate occasions what my advice is for them because they live on "an island" and can't get the products I use and also can't get Amazon, and... guys!!!? How could I possibly answer that??? You haven't even told me which island, for one, but for quite another, if I'm not a hair expert, I'm certainly not an International Shipping To Remote Islands expert!!! What do you want from me?? I'm just some guy. Who uses a method. I can tell you the basics of it (which I have, extensively), and I can tell you what I personally do (which I have, extensively), and that's it. I have zero expertise beyond that. Anything else is information I would have to try and get from a support group of other people to report back, at which point, you bloody do it. I am not CGM customer support.
To reiterate - I truly, honestly, don't mind getting novel questions that I haven't already answered, or clarifying things that might be confusing; to be honest, it's not like I even massively mind someone going "I live in a desert, how could I combat dryness?". But if you ask me, a Welsh woman, a question like that, you're going to have to accept that my advice is, at best, going to be guesswork or second/third-hand information I once saw someone else mention online somewhere that I have now mostly forgotten if I ever truly saw it at all. Because I do not live in a desert, and I am not a professional.
ALSO A NON-HAIR POINT
I said at the start of this post that 19 of the top thirty messages in my inbox right now are hair questions. Five, though, follow a different pattern.
I imagine this is part of my follower count still exploding (I gained another three thousand of you since August, to give an idea; where the fuck are you all coming from?!? Really like grilled cheese adventures, huh), but I've started getting A LOT of messages from people who blatantly want to use me as a billboard to get their message out. Sometimes a serious message about a vital global issue, sometimes a relatively trivial one about a piece of media they want people to see, and anything in between.
I sympathise. I do understand. But I am not a billboard.
Apart from anything else, I just don't have the time to go fact checking and researching everything to make sure I'm being a Good Billboard, and it would be incredibly irresponsible of me to avoid that step and just blindly go "Sure, yeah, signal boost" and hit publish. If you send me one of these, I am unlikely to do anything with it, I'm sorry. It might put something on my radar, and make me more likely to pay attention when I see the issue being posted organically - when the Iranian protests began someone sent me a message asking me to reblog a particular user's post about it (not their own, it was a separate user). I didn't post that ask, but I did go and manually check the user in question's blog, found a good infographic post there about the protests, and I was able to reblog that. That was fine. But even then, if I hadn't had the time to do that (my life is very busy), that ask would have been buried.
Anyway, I don't want to discourage asks in my inbox generally, nor is this me yelling at anyone or telling anyone off. But with the hair thing in particular, I cannot go on like this pls take pity T_T

Hii so what was that product you used for your hair in that photo I'm still learning how to do my hair since no one in my family has curly hair and I like use to refuse to believe I had curly hair.
So I washed my hair with this clarifying shampoo to get rid of buildup!!
Tumblr media
I then used my mielle rosemary shampoo and I went in with this wonder water from L’Oréal to add hydration.
Tumblr media
Then I used my mielle rosemary conditioner, washed that out, and then used my L’Oréal leave in!!

If you have curly/wavy hair and you're in the UK pls help me
I'm thinking of changing up my curly hair routine. I've been using the herbal essences honey shampoo and conditioner for like a year but I really struggle with an itchy scalp/dandruff and a lack of definition across my hair. I have low porosity hair, and it's mostly 2b/2c with 3a ringlets at the front, and it gets weighed down really easily. It's pretty healthy, hasn't been dyed in a year and a half and I don't really ever use heat on it. I always let it air dry and sometimes give it a quick scrunch with a towel. I use the John Frieda frizz ease crème for my curls and then I usually scrunch it out with hair oil.
Can anyone recommend affordable shampoos and conditioners that would work for this hair type? I also need a new clarifying shampoo because the one I currently use is OGX and that's bad so I need something else. Any other advice would be appreciated!

Doing a self care night w carm 🥺 he gets home after the lunch shift to find you bought a bunch of face masks and scrubs for you guys. You giving him a back massage and washing his hair. Ofc you take one of those classic coupley face mask mirror selfies™️. He lets you sit in his lap and trim up his eyebrows 😭
Jesus I just want to take care of him 🧎‍♀️
-🧸
Oh God you get it. You get IT.
The amount of times I have imagined doing my hair routine on Carmy… AH
Like walk with me here. He’s over at your apartment after work and you’ve convinced him to let you do all of your self care things on him.
You tell him the first thing you’re going to do is wash his hair. He’s already getting excited because he thinks you two are about to shower together, but that’s not what you have in mind.
“Come in the kitchen and lay on the counter by the sink. Imma go get the stuff I need from the bathroom.”
“Wait, what?”
“I’m washing your hair in the sink. My mom did it for me all the time. It’s a lot easier this way. I already cleaned off the counter for you.”
You return from your bathroom with an arm full of hair products. Carmy is sitting on the countertop, waiting for your next instruction. “Okay, what is all of that for?”
“It’s hair products, Carm. I’ll explain it to you as I go.” You roll up a bathroom towel you brought with you and place it at the edge of the sink. “Can you lay down now?”
Once he’s settled, you turn the faucet on, feeling the temperature of the water with your finger. You use the sink sprayer to wet his hair. You begin by shampooing his hair. “This is a clarifying shampoo. It’s going to cleanse your scalp and your roots.”
“Are you saying my hair is greasy.”
“You do work in a kitchen, you know. Also let’s not ignore the fact you use two in one shampoo and conditioner.” Carmy doesn’t bite back, knowing you’re right. He closes his eyes while your fingertips massage his scalp.
“That feels really nice, baby.”
“Perfect. That’s the goal,” you reply, smiling at him as you rinse out all the shampoo. “Now I’m going to use a deep conditioning treatment. It’ll make your hair feel soft and healthy. It needs to sit for ten minutes, so why don’t you tell me about your day?”
Time goes by quick as Carmy tells you about work. Before you know it the timer on your phone goes off, and you rinse out the conditioner. “Thats it right?” Carmy asks.
“I gotta style your curls! I’ll be quick I promise.” You start to layer on different products, trying to be speedy.
“Okay what is all of this?”
“Oh, well I just put on a leave in conditioner. It does exactly what it sounds like. Right now I’m putting in a styling cream. That’ll keep your hair from being frizzy. Finally I’ll put in a mouse, which will help hold your curls without loosing any volume.”
“I’ve never used any of this before?”
“Carm, it’s a mystery to me how your hair looks so nice. If only you knew the daily struggles of a girl doing her hair.” You put the last touches on his hair, scrunching the product through his locks. “You’re all done now. It just has to dry. Ooo! Let’s do a face mask now!”
Carmy hops off the countertop and follows you to the living room where you already have a variety of sheet masks laid on the coffee table. “So do I just pick any of these?”
“Yep! Completely your choice.” Carmy instantly goes for the panda bear sheet mask. “I had a feeling you would pick that one,” you laugh.
You spend the rest of the night with Carmy watching his favorite shows while you do all of your skincare routine on him. He doesn’t even fight you when you sit on his lap to trim up his eyebrows.
I like to giggle and think that the staff notice the next morning that Carmy’s hair looks really nice and curly AND that his eyebrows are perfectly trimmed. He folds at some point and admits that it was all you, and he played zero part in it.

ok so these products are the every time ones. basically the ones on the right are done in the shower (shampoo then conditioner) and i brush it out with a detangling brush while its wet. typically between shampoo and conditioner. pls leave the conditioner in for at least 5 minutes or ur wasting the good conditioner.
the ones on the left are leave in. the mousse spray on the far left is first, a few pumps massaged into my roots and mids. then the leavein tgin conditioner on mids and ends. and finally a small amount of that ouidad gel on the ends and sorta mids sometimes.
Tumblr media
these are the heavy duty products. the redken is a clarifying shampoo for every 3 or so hair washes. the olaplex no. 8 is a mask that goes on for 10 minutes, i try to use it every 3 washes too. finally the rose water mask is a deep treatment i leave on for at least an hour, once a month.
im still a curly hair novice but I'm starting to get the hang of it. im still open to tips if anyone knows any
